  2. Caution: This story contains graphic images from the incident that may not be suitable for some readers. A four-year-old girl’s skin suffered third-degree burns on her hand after a smartwatch exploded and burst into flames. The girl needed a skin graft after the incident which took place in her home. Yiyi, a girl in the city of Quanzhou, China suffered burns earlier this week. According to Yiyi’s father Mr Huang, the girl was playing with her three-year-old cousin under the supervision of her grandmother when the watch exploded. From the pictures, it is hard to identify which smartwatch it could be but it definitely feels like a device that is meant for children. © AsiaWire The girl’s grandmother said that she heard a loud “bang” followed by Yiyi screaming when the incident occurred. The grandmother rushed into the room after she heard the screams of her granddaughter. The grandmother said she found the room covered in thick smoke and a distinctive smell. The smoke continued to come out of the smartwatch while the girl was wearing it. It’s easy enough to deduce that the battery inside the smartwatch had exploded but it is currently unknown how it happened. The girl’s grandmother noticed that the girl’s hand was badly burned and ran it under a cold tap before taking her to the hospital. The doctor diagnosed third-degree burns on the girl’s hand and carried out a skin graft to speed up the healing process and reduce the risk of infection. © AsiaWire/Australscope The girl’s father has contacted the unknown smartwatch manufacturer and is seeking compensation. Mr Huang said that his uncle bought the watch online and never inserted a SIM card inside. This was not the first time a child’s watch has caught fire in China. According to similar reports, a similar incident also happened in Jiangmen, Guangdong on November 6th 2018. It turned out that the smartwatch saw a rapid rise in temperature out of the blue and burned another girl’s wrist during the process. It is worthy to point out that the smartwatch could be a local brand and is not sold in India at the moment. Having said that, if a smartwatch you own suddenly sees a rise in temperature while wearing, remove it from your wrist the moment you notice it to prevent burns in case of chances of an explosion. 3. The two leading toothpaste brands Colgate and Patanjali have nothing in common, except the fact that both are household names in India. While Colgate has established its name in the market, its rival brand Patanjali has managed to create its own customer base. © iStock However, a recent report titled, ‘Toothpaste firm's numbers show India Inc profits won't survive costs, Covid’ published by Business Insider found that the numbers haven't looked good for Colgate-Palmolive Co in the past six years, which also happens to be the tenure of PM Modi’s government in India. “For the full year, the U.S. multinational’s India unit recorded a little over 7% jump in net sales, but since that came atop a 1.2% increase in the previous 12 months, the two-year average works out to less than 5%,” it said. © iStock The report subtly blames the Modi government and the competitor Patanjali for the plummeting sales of the Indian unit of the American brand. It says, “This is a company that only once expanded annual revenue by less than 13% in the nine years before 2015. But then came the challenge to its dominance from a yoga guru and his homegrown Ayurveda company, followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bizarre ban on 86% of cash in 2016, a banking crisis, a brutal economic slowdown, and finally two waves of Covid-19. Colgate hasn’t once managed double-digit growth in the last six years under Modi.” The report was shared on Twitter from Business Insider’s account and it promptly sparked a meme fest. The users cannot make sense of the fact that a toothpaste brand not being able to generate profits in the last six years could be PM Modi’s fault. © Instagram/Narendra Modi The author of the report cites demonetisation, crumbling economy and the pandemic situation witnessed under the tenure of PM Modi as the reasons for Colgate’s bad sales. He argues that Indian consumers would prefer spending less, pertaining to the financial crisis and would look for cheaper options like the homegrown brand Patanjali. While some users found it hilarious and mocked the report, others made memes about Patanjali being a game-changer in a few years. Take a look at some of the funny memes doing the rounds on Twitter: Today I learnt that PM Modi is also the CEO of Colgate pic.twitter.com/xYGWA5Rs8z — chacha monk (@oldschoolmonk) May 21, 2021Baba Ramdev and Patanjali Dant Kanti after knowing that Colgate didn't make double digit profit in last six years : pic.twitter.com/u0sUCZtUYg — श्रद्धा | Shraddha 🇮🇳 (@immortalsoulin) May 21, 2021News portal reports - Colgate not performing well under PM Modi 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Meanwhile Patanjali to Colgate : pic.twitter.com/8N5Ud4pbfp — श्रद्धा | Shraddha 🇮🇳 (@immortalsoulin) May 21, 2021*#Colgate not performing well under PM Modi* People : pic.twitter.com/ZQAm6b3cuZ — SharmaJi KaLadka (@SharmajiKeTweet) May 21, 2021 The Tweet by Business Insider is now deleted. But, after the recent blunder involving one portrait of "Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose" and one tweet by President Ram Nath Kovind, we now know that so many people can screw up all at once and give us all the entertainment we deserve. © Reuters It all started with our President unveiling a portrait that was supposed to be of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in honour of his 125th birth anniversary. President Kovind unveils the portrait of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at Rashtrapati Bhavan to commemorate his 125th birth anniversary celebrations. pic.twitter.com/Y3BnylwA8X — President of India (@rashtrapatibhvn) January 23, 2021 Figured out the problem? The portrait in question is not even of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and looks like they unintentionally honoured Prosenjit Chatterjee instead. The picture is actually of the actor's portrayal of the freedom fighter in the movie Gumnaami. This honestly feels like a made-up incident because in what world would a screw-up that big actually happen? All I know is that some poor intern is getting fired and I honestly feel bad. Here's the real Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose who was supposed to be honoured. © Wikipedia So many comparisons to be made. This is unbelievably hilarious. That’s like unveiling Portrait of Ajay Devgan as Bhagat Singh https://t.co/voRxerFmoU — Joy (@Joydas) January 25, 2021 People are rightfully angry. President of India just unveiled the portrait of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. Great news, right? RIGHT? The only problem is, this is not Bose. Twelve hours in debate, three years of buildup and one shredded document - the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB), 2019, was passed in the Lok Sabha at midnight, as the world celebrates Human Rights Day on December 10. Needless to say, the new law almost instantly sent the country into an uproar across social media. Shortly after leaving the Parliament, BJP stalwarts Amit Shah and Narendra Modi congratulated each other on achieving the long-standing party goal. Thank you honourable PM @narendramodi ji. With India having the world's largest Muslim population (over 20 crore), several people shared anger and resentment against the bill's passing. 11. The Indian cricket team had already elated their fans following their historic Test series win in Australia last month. But, beginning the New Year in emphatic style, the 'Men in Blue', now, have given the fans back home another reason to cheer for – their first ever bilateral ODI series win on the Australian soil. MS Dhoni, who has been on song in the series, took India past the target of 231 with the assistance of Kedar Jadhav to help India secure a series-deciding seven-wicket win at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Recording their second consecutive win, India sealed the three-match series 2-1. The Jharkhand cricketer was once again the star of the show, scoring an unbeaten 87 to aid his side. It was also his third fifty in a row this year, which earned him the 'Man of the Series' award. If Dhoni led from the front, Kedar Jadhav (61*), too, made a mark in the supporting role. Earlier, Yuzvendra Chahal's career-best spell (6-42) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 2-28 spelt doom for the Australian batsmen. Struggling against the Indian spinner, the hosts were bundled out for 230 runs in 48.4 overs. 12. In a horrific incident, a mobile phone exploded in a man's pocket while he was having lunch at a restaurant in Mumbai. The incident took place on June 4th at a local restaurant in Bhandup area of Mumbai. In the video, it can be seen that the man immediately jumps and tries to remove the phone from his pocket after he sees the smoke billowing from it. He immediately throws away the burning phone and proceeds to evacuate, while other panicked patrons of the restaurant are also seen rushing out of the hotel owing to the fire hazard. #WATCH: Mobile phone blasts in man's pocket in Mumbai's Bhandup. In the video, we can see the explosion left a big hole in the man's pocket. Unfortunately, the details about which phone was involved in the incident aren't available as of now. This isn't the first time we have come across reports about mobile phone explosions. The major reason behind these explosions has usually been a faulty battery. Researchers and manufacturers have been trying their best to prevent these incidents, but sometimes things just aren't ideal. Back in 2016, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 had been in the news for its sensitive batteries that were prone to an explosion. © Samsung Galaxy Note 7 / The Independent With the Galaxy Note 7 and Samsung, various reports confirmed that the issue was caused when the device was charging. This is the reason why it is recommended to never overcharge our mobile phone batteries. Secondly, excessive heat can cause internal short circuit within the battery by breaking down the internal cells. This is the reason why it is always suggested to never keep the battery directly under sunlight. © Gizmodo Lastly, it is always recommended to use original charging accessories like the cable and adapter, to make sure you are not putting any unnecessary load on the battery. Cheap knock-off products aren't worth buying and risking yourselves serious burns. Earlier in March, a teenager died in Kheriakani district in Odisha while using a phone. The teenager was on a call with a relative while the phone was plugged in for charging and reportedly exploded.
  13. GUANGXI: A 12-year-old Chinese boy suffered a major injury to his hand and eye when his mobile phone ? that was being charged ? exploded in his room, British tabloid Daily Mail reported citing Chinese media. Meng Jisu was about to pick up his phone, which was plugged into the electric socket for charging, when it blew up, ripping away the index finger of his right hand and leaving him blind in his right eye. The plastic shrapnel from the blast hit his face, causing the injury. The young boy, who was found unconscious and covered in blood by his elder sister, had to undergo a five-hour-long surgery and is still in the hospital, according to Chinese media, which also identified the mobile phone as locally-made Hua Tang VT-V59. As per the doctors who operated on Jisu ? including People's Hospital chief physician Lan Tianbing ? the ??shredded? index finger was not brought along? and that ?it was not possible to reattach? it. ?The doctors also carried out skin graft on his right forearm, reattached the blood vessels of his thumb, middle finger and ring finger onto his right hand,? Daily Mail wrote. Jisu would hopefully regain 98 percent use of his wounded hand.
  14. Describe President Donald Trump in one word. While you might take your own sweet time to answer this question, the Internet has already found an answer to this – memes. Internet is so obsessed with memes and Donald Trump that we won't be surprised if tomorrow Webster's dictionary starts mentioning the two as synonyms. No matter what Trump does, netizens somehow manage to make hilarious memes out of it. © wikimedia After completing his Asia Tour, Trump held a press conference to discuss his achievements and the success of the trip. While he was expecting people to greet him with handshakes and loud rounds of applause, he instead got welcomed by memes that soon turned into an epic Photoshop battle. We are not even close to joking when we say that this time around Trump is at the centre of memes for simply drinking water from a bottle. While talking at the conference, he took a break to have some water. But, there was no bottle, at least not where he was looking. After someone hinted that it's kept on the other side, he took the bottle and drank water from it. Now what did people find so funny in him drinking water? THIS… © reddit We told you we aren't joking. Soon, people started filling that water bottle with their own hilarious memes, immortalizing the moment in the process. So without further ado, let's take a look at this Reddit thread 'PS Battle: Trump drinking water' and see what the people thought Trump was actually doing. PSBattle - Trump drinking... Lady and the Trump We can't even begin to define the ingenuity of internet trolls who can churn out Trump memes even when he is drinking water. But then we are reminded of the time when he was holding the 'magical' orb, and when he was crowned as 'President Frog'. While we feel bad for Trump being the favorite dish in the main-course menu of memes, how else are we meant to enjoy or pay attention or even react to any political dialogue if not with such great editing skills?

In fact, a spokesperson told ET, “The Lyf range of phones are designed and manufactured with global standards by some of the world’s leading manufacturers of mobile phones. Each phone goes through a stringent quality control process.” He further added, “We are concerned about the incident reported in social media and are taking the matter seriously. We are assessing the cause and will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.” Well, even though it’s a technical error, dear we as consumers should not be experiencing these problems. Diwali is over already and we are not in a mood to burn our hands with crackers like these. Source: The Economic Times
