  1. WhatsApp has already done a lot in the past to curb the spread of fake news on its platform. But sadly, it looks like nothing can stop these fake forwarded messages that we come across on various groups. And now that the coronavirus pandemic is affecting countries all over the world, it's crucial to curb the spread of fake news. Well, in an effort to limit fake news, WhatsApp is introducing a new limit on forwarding messages, making it a lot more difficult or rather tedious to forward messages. © Reuters With this new limit in place, users can now forward a message to only one chat at a time. WhatsApp will automatically detect if/when you forward a particular message more than 5 times and limit you from forwarding that to more users at a time. WhatsApp is using metadata to identify the number of times a message has been forwarded, so there's nothing to worry about them going through your messages. Here's what WhatsApp says in its blog post - "However, weâve seen a significant increase in the amount of forwarding which users have told us can feel overwhelming and can contribute to the spread of misinformation. We believe itâs important to slow the spread of these messages down to keep WhatsApp a place for personal conversations." © Reuters This particular feature will join the existing efforts of the company to curb fake news. Back in 2018, WhatsApp began labeling forwarded messages when things started getting out of hands. We're glad that WhatsApp is constantly on the lookout for ways to make things better and improve its apps. In case you missed it, you can simply use WhatsApp to get accurate and prompt info about Coronavirus from WHO. More of such cool features, please! Source: WhatsApp View the full article
  2. If you have been impatiently waiting for 'dark mode' to roll out for WhatsApp, you can stop counting the days as it is finally available for everyone from today. The new update has rolled out for both iOS and Android users since it first showed up on the beta version of the app. The darker-themed mode of WhatsApp will automatically change if you are using dark mode on your phone from your system settings. © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla In a post on its blog, WhatsApp wrote: "Dark mode for WhatsApp offers a fresh look on a familiar experience. Itâs designed to reduce eye strain in low-light environments. And we hope it helps prevent those awkward moments where your phone lights up the room." WhatsAppâs dark mode is available as a part of the latest update on both Android and iOS via Google Play Store and App Store, respectively. © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla Facebook has tweaked its WhatsApp dark mode to ensure it lowers the brightness of a phone display. âDuring testing, we found that combining pure black and white creates high contrast that can lead to eye fatigue,â explains a WhatsApp spokesperson. âSo instead, youâll notice a special dark grey background and off-white colour that lowers the brightness of the screen, cuts down the glare and improves contrast and readability.â Having said that, for some reason if your WhatsApp has not automatically switched or your phone does not have dark mode support from the system settings, you can follow these steps to enable the feature: Android 1. Update WhatsApp from the Play Store To Enable the Dark Mode Feature 2. Tap the action overflow menu (three vertical dots in the top right corner). 3. Tap on Settings 4. Select Chats 5. Tap on Themes 6. In the Choose Theme dialog box, select Dark. 7. WhatsApp Will Now run in Dark Mode iOS 1. Make Sure you are running iOS 11 or later on your iPhone. 2. Update WhatsApp from the App Store To Enable the Dark Mode Feature 3. Go to Settings > Display and Brightness > Select Dark in the âAppearanceâ Section 4. WhatsApp will automatically switch to the dark theme View the full article
  3. If youâve been wanting to use a trackpad with the Apple iPad, your wish might just come true this year. Apple is apparently planning to release a new iPad Keyboard that will have a trackpad built-in for users. If the cover exists, the iPad can potentially turn into a proper laptop similar to the companyâs MacBooks. The rumour comes from the website The Information and according to them, the accessory is expected to launch alongside the new iPad Pro. © Unsplash/Danaiel Korpai iPad users have been requesting some form of mouse support for a while and this keyboard would be Appleâs next move to making the iPad a good replacement for laptops. iPadOs already has mouse support but is currently limited to certain functions. Of course, we still have to see how it would work with iPadOS and how Apple integrates the trackpad support. Currently, the iPad lets users use mouse via the Assistive Touch feature that can be found in the accessibility menu. However, the mouse doesnât appear as a pointer but instead as an opaque circle for users. The new trackpad cover could potentially change how we use the iPad and transform it into a fully functional laptop. © Unsplash/Danaiel Korpai Previous rumours have suggested the next iPad Pro will come with a backlit Smart Keyboard this fall, similar to MacBook keyboards. However, there was no mention of the trackpad in these previous rumours. We may have to wait a few more months to see how Apple connects all the dots and implement a comprehensive mouse feature. It seems clear that Apple wants the iPad to become more laptop-like and if these rumours are true, Apple is already heading in the right direction. Source: The Information View the full article
  4. AirDrop lets users transfer files amongst two iPhone users or iPhone and MacBook users. It is an exclusive feature of iOS and at the moment and no Android smartphone has been able to effectively replicate it. But that may change soon as Samsung is making a similar feature for their smartphones. According to XDA Developersâ source, a new feature called âQuick Shareâ was spotted and will debut alongside the upcoming Galaxy S20 smartphones. It will work similarly to AirDrop i.e. it will not use cellular or Bluetooth to transfer files. Instead, it will use Bluetooth to create a peer-to-peer Wi-Fi network between connected devices. XDA was able to access the interface of the application and it says that within the app, users can locate nearby Galaxy devices to transfer files. This also suggests that the feature may be exclusive to Galaxy smartphones. © XDA Developers Quick Share will also have other options for users such as choosing whom you can receive files from i.e. from everyone or from your contacts. The app will also be able to let users save files to the cloud, from where it can later be downloaded locally or streamed to Samsung SmartThings devices. There will be a limit of 1GB per file and a daily limit of 2GB of total cloud storage. © Samsung It is currently not clear whether this feature will be available for older Samsung Galaxy devices, however XDA revealed that its source was using the app on a Galaxy S20 Plus 5G. It could be possible that the new Quick Share feature will roll out for devices that will get the OneUI 2.1 update. © Google Samsung is not the only company working on an AirDrop like feature as Google is also rumoured to be working on a similar service called âNearby Sharing.â Googleâs service is rumoured to be released via Google Play Store and may work with almost every Android smartphone. We will get to know more about Quick Share at Samsungâs âUnpackedâ event that is set to take place on February 11. View the full article
  5. Not everyone uses a smartphone as companies like Reliance Jio, Nokia and others have launched feature phones with 4G capabilities in the past. These phones are particularly popular amongst users who don't really know how to work smartphones or just prefer using feature phones. Having said that, digital payments took off with a great start in India with UPI payments being the most popular payment mode. © HMD-Global However, over half a billion users in India are not able to use digital payments simply because they use feature phones instead. In order to tackle this problem, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) collaborated with CIIE.CO and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to kickstart a competition for anyone who can figure out digital payments on feature phones. © Youtube/Microsoft The competition can be taken up by individuals or by enterprises and the best solution will win a total amount of Rs 35 lakh or $50,000. The second place will get a prize money of $30,000 while a prize money of $20,000 is up for grabs for the third spot. The last date to file your application for the competition is January 12, 2020. © HMD-Global One can apply for the competition via an online process and CIIE.CO & NPCI will select the most viable and promising solutions. Shortlisted individuals or enterprises will then be granted access to NPCI's API to start building their solutions. As per the website, the selected candidates will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to CIIE.CO team during the contest. “CIIE.CO can also facilitate introductions to other investors on a case to case basis. Winners will be evaluated for further acceleration/investment support via the Bharat Inclusion Initiative,” it said. View the full article
  6. A woman used one of iPhone's unique features to locate her stolen car and recovered the vehicle by tracking her smartphone. The “Find My iPhone” feature is now an integral part of iOS 13 and can be used to track your device in real-time. The woman named Victoria O'Connor left her keys inside the car while it was still running. When she returned her car was missing along with her iPhone and wallet. © Apple Using the “Find My iPhone” feature, local authorities were able to locate the general location of the phone and recovered the vehicle at a nearby apartment complex. However, the iPhone and wallet are still missing along with other belongings. The Police are confident that the iPhone and other belongings are within the same apartment complex. “Thieves are going to be thieves,” an officer on the case said. “So, the best thing you can do is don't leave your car running unattended and take care of the things that are valuable to you.” The new “Find My” app was released as a part of iOS 13 update and can be used to locate the iPhone and even friends and family who have given permission to be tracked. The feature can now also let users find devices even when it is offline. Users can also use the app to locate devices by playing a sound to pinpoint its location. © Apple When a lost device is offline, it can be detected by other Apple devices in the vicinity using Bluetooth signals that will eventually relay the location of the device to the person's iCloud account. The entire process is encrypted end-to-end and does not reveal any sensitive information. Source: KCCI Des Moines View the full article
  7. The smartphone market has seen significant growth not just in India, but across the globe. More are buying smartphones than ever, making it one of the fastest moving commodities. That being said, there's a good chunk of the population that prefers using a good old feature phone. I personally prefer using a dumb feature phone instead of a smartphone to stay away from all the buzzing notifications. However, there are things which you simply can't do on a feature phone. Making payments, for instance, is a huge pain. Although that could change very soon as NCPI has now partnered with the Bill and Melinda Gates foundations to help create an app for the same. Exciting opportunity for #innovators worldwide to build payment solutions for feature phone users in India! Congrats to @CIIEIndia, @NPCI_NPCI & @gatesfoundation for launching the Grand Challenge. More details here - https://t.co/L52lNwLTvb — Nandan Nilekani (@NandanNilekani) November 22, 2019 NCPI (National Payments Corporation of India), for those of you who don't know, are the same people who brought us BHIM, which is a UPI-based payment. And they've collaborated with CIIE.Co and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to give away a huge reward to folks who make a working payments app for feature phones. They've essentially come together to announce a competition, in which they're calling out developers to provide innovative solutions to make this happen. The winner of the competition will walk away with $100,000, which roughly translates to about Rs 70 lakh. That's indeed a lot of money for making an app. That and think about the exposure which you will gain from this particular gig. Vishal Anand Kanvaty, Chief of Innovation at NPCI noted that a significant chunk of population in India still relies on feature phones. And he thinks a solution is necessary to move India into a cashless economy. “Feature phones hold a significant share of the mobile user base in rural and semi-urban populations to anchor India's move to a cashless economy rapidly. With the help of the government and the payments ecosystem, it is crucial that we should focus on providing smart and simple payment solutions to feature phone users," he said. © Reuters Obviously coming up with a proper solution isn't going to be an easy job, but that's exactly what the competition is all about. Winners will also get support from CIIE.Co Bharat Inclusion Initiative, that provides support to sustain startups in the country. If you think you have it takes to come up with a solution or if you think you somebody who can then let then ask them to do the needful by clicking right here. View the full article

  9. Apple's AirPods Pro is the company's biggest upgrade in the wireless earbud portfolio ever since the regular AirPods were launched alongside the iPhone 7. The AirPods Pro comes with one important and necessary feature: active noise cancellation (ANC). While most earbuds face the issue of blocking out ambient noise around you, only a handful of wireless earbuds can achieve ANC and AirPods Pro are the only ones available to buy in India right now. We reviewed the AirPods Pro with a brief background on how the feature works but there are different ways to turn on or control the feature. The AirPods Pro uses a set of two microphones to block ambient sound. This comes handy when you are around noisy people, on an aeroplane or at taking the metro to work. The feature works the moment you plug your AirPods Pro in your ears, however you do much more. Here are the different ways you can control the ANC feature on the AirPods Pro and make the experience even better. But before we get started, you must do the ear tips test from the Bluetooth settings to find the best ear tip fit and seal for your ear canal. The process doesn't take too long and it uses a short snippet of music to determine the right seal for you. After you've done that, you're ready to start using the AirPods Pro and these are some ways you can control the feature: Use The Force Touch Sensor © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla Using the sensor on the stem of the AirPods Pro is the most convenient way to fire up the Noise Cancellation feature. There's a slight grooved flat surface which you can hold to cycle through the three different modes i.e. noise cancellation, transparency mode and off. If you hear a chime when holding the stem, it means the Noise Cancellation mode has been turned off. You can do it on either of the stems. However, if you wish to customise one of them you can do so in the Bluetooth Settings by tapping “i” next to the listing for your AirPods Pro. Use Siri The other convenient way to turn on noise cancellation is by simply asking Siri. Since the AirPods Pro come with the H1 Chip, you can simply call for Siri to switch on or off the mode. You can say, “Hey Siri, turn on/off noise cancellation" or "Hey Siri, turn on/off transparency” to use the feature. Using Control Center © Apple The third best way to control the noise cancellation settings is using the Control Centre on your iPhone. After opening the Control Center, look for the AirPods Pro icon and tap to get into the settings, At the bottom, you can toggle between the three modes according to your liking. The Long Method © Apple This is by far the longest and most inconvenient method to toggle between the three different settings. You need to go into the Bluetooth Settings and then tap on “i” next to the listing for your AirPods Pro. There will be a “Noise Control” menu where you can choose one of the three modes you want to pick. This is not the most convenient way to do it, but it is one of the methods to use. 10. The Apple Watch is now becoming an essential wearable to own and the smartwatch has been credited in the past for saving many lives. Apple introduced a fall detection feature with the Apple Watch Series 4 which has already saved a few lives. Last month, a hiker fell off a cliff and the same fall detection feature, that is unique to the Apple Watch, saved his life. © Apple In recent news, Police in England responded to yet another incident that involved a car accident. The man driving the car was unconscious after the car crash, his Apple Watch sent a call for help. The police have not made the survivor's details public but the official Twitter handle of Surrey Police tweeted about the incident. Last week we responded to an automated Apple Watch fall detection alert after a driver that was involved in a collision had been knocked unconscious. The alarm provided emergency responders with GPS data to quickly locate the scene. âï¸ð° > ððð@Apple @tim_cook pic.twitter.com/cmTW6K2na0 — RPU - Surrey Police (@SurreyRoadCops) November 4, 2019 © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla The Apple Watch's fall detection feature works once a user falls down. The watch will then buzz and sound an alarm for the user. It will then ask if you are fine or need any assistance. If the user is unable to respond in 30 seconds, it will call emergency services automatically and also sound an alarm to notify people who are nearby. The Apple Watch will also send the location of the user to the emergency services so that it is easier for them to be located. View the full article
  11. Apple Watch has now become one of the most essential gadgets to own, thanks to its various health tracking features. It has been responsible for saving lives in the past too and recently, a feature that was introduced on the Apple Watch Series 4 saved a man's life this time around. Apple introduced the “fall detection” feature that alerts emergency services if a user takes a hard fall and does not get up after a minute. © Apple After the first minute, the watch will buzz and sound an alarm. It will then ask if you are fine or need any assistance. If the user is unable to respond in 30 seconds, it will call emergency services automatically and also sound an alarm to notify people who are nearby. The Apple Watch will also send the location of the user to the emergency services so that it is easier for them to be located. This feature has been responsible in the past for saving a man's life after he fell during a biking accident. Now the same feature has saved a man's life who's from New Jersey and had suffered a fall from a cliff while out for a hike. © Pinterest(For representation purposes only) News12 New Jersey reported that the man was hiking in Hartshorne Woods Park. While hiking, he fell from a very steep cliff but did not suffer any life-threatening injuries. The report said, “Prudenciano fell into the river and landed on a rock. He suffered three fractures in his back, scratches and thorns that are still lodged in his foot.” “I was screaming that I'm going to die because I really felt I was going to die,” Prudenciano said. “There was no way out of this for me. I literally said my last goodbyes.” He was miraculously saved, thanks to his Apple Watch as it detected the hard fall and called 911. This feature only works on the Lte variant of the Apple Watch but does not require a carrier plan to dial emergency services. Source: News12 New Jersey
  12. Google announced the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL earlier this week and it's the first phone by the company that comes with facial recognition. The face unlocking system works a bit similarly to Apple's Face ID. And similar to iPhones, the Pixel 4 series does not have any form of fingerprint scanning sensors. However, according to BBC reporter Chris Fox, the Pixel 4 can unlock by scanning a face even when eyes are closed. If you need a closer look, Fox uploaded a short video on Twitter that shows this flaw. Proof, for those asking #madebygoogle #pixel4 pic.twitter.com/mBDJphVpfB — Chris Fox (@thisisFoxx) October 15, 2019 This potentially means that anyone can pick up the Pixel 4, scan your face and unlock it even when your eyes are closed. This also means that someone can access the Pixel 4 by scanning the owner's face even when they are sleeping. On other Android phones like the OnePlus 7T Pro and iPhones with Face ID, the face unlock system checks for your eyes to be open and will ask users to look into the camera. Google's support page has also confirmed that “Your phone can also be unlocked by someone else if it's held up to your face, even if your eyes are closed,” the page reads. “Keep your phone in a safe place, like your front pocket or handbag.” © Twitter It seems like Google is already working on a fix as a new image stating the fact that the Face unlock feature will have the “require eyes to be open” feature soon, has surfaced online. Google has confirmed to reporter Fox that the new feature will not be available when the Pixel 4 goes on sale. At the moment, Google is recommending users to use the lockdown function that comes on the Pixel 4. This mode uses the traditional pin code method and disables the face unlock feature. The lockdown mode can be accessed directly from the power menu by going to Settings > Display > Advanced > Lock screen display and enable the Show lockdown option.
  13. Apple just announced iOS 13 for the iPhone and has started to roll out as a Beta for current devices. It comes with many new performance improvements and software tweaks to make the iPhone experience even better. One such feature is called "Optimized Battery Charging” and is designed to improve your battery's total life and health. © Macrumors The new mode can be found in the battery section of settings and you need to head to “Battery Health”. You can switch it if you want to extend your iPhone's battery life. When switched on, this mode basically learns from your usage and habits and then waits to finish charging to 100% until you need your device. © Pexels For a simpler explanation, if you charge your smartphone at night while sleeping, Apple will charge it to 80% and then wait an hour or so before you wake up to charge it up to 100%. This basically keeps your iPhone charged at optimum capacity and then charge the remaining capacity when you actually need it, instead of keeping the iPhone charged at 100%. © Reuters When any device with a battery is continually charging after it reaches maximum capacity, this, in turn, does affect the battery health. This new feature is essentially a life safer who want to keep using their iPhone without having the need of replacing the battery sooner than expected. This feature will eventually prolong the life of the device as long as possible. If you would like to check out iOS 13, you can follow our guide on how to install it on your device right now. According to Apple, these are devices that can take part in the iOS 13 beta - iPhone XS, XS Max iPhone XR iPhone X iPhone 8, 8 Plus iPhone 7, 7 Plus iPhone 6s, 6s Plus iPhone SE iPod Touch 7th Generation Source: Macrumors
  14. It has been long rumoured that Apple will be bringing one of its most beloved features on iPhones, but it will be different from what we are used to. There have been previous rumours suggesting that Apple will include an on-screen fingerprint scanner on the next iPhone and the company's latest patent confirms the plans. It may not come as soon as this year's iPhone, however, it is expected to come sooner or later. (c) Pexels According to the latest patent spotted by Patently Apple, the company wants to embed a pinhole camera being the display of the smartphone. This camera will be able to create a 3D map of your fingerprint regardless of where you place your finger. The new feature will be an additional form of biometric unlocking and the company will not be replacing FaceID anytime soon. The two methods will make the iPhone even more secure as current iPhones only supports FaceID. (c) Pexels The more exciting bit about this patent is that Apple has shown pictures of a prototype, which means that the company is already done with the development process. The new unlocking method is expected to go into mass production by 2020 and will be a feature on 2020 iPhones. The new unlocking method is not the first time we're something like this as Xiaomi has also developed a version which works similar to Apple's patent. Source: Patently Apple
  15. Facebook announced a bunch of new things at the F8 conference last night. From a new Facebook interface and an updated Messenger app, there's a lot to look forward to. But you know what caught our attention the most? The new dating features. Yes, Facebook Dating is expanding to several new countries and the company is introducing a new feature called 'Secret Crush'. © Facebook As the name suggests, Facebook's new 'Secret Crush' feature will help you connect with your crush. If you choose to opt-in to this feature, you can select up to nine friends and signal them that you have a crush on them. And if they decide to check out Facebook Dating and end up selecting you as their secret crush, then both of you will get notified. That's it! A match made in heaven! Facebook says your love interest will be disclosed only when the feelings are mutual. But given the current situation, we see how people might find it hard to trust Facebook with something like this. Seriously, Facebook has proven time and again that it is not really capable of handling our personal information responsibly. But hey, if your crush still has an account on the platform, then this is one way of trying your luck and opening to your crush. You still have to be over 18 to use Facebook Dating though, and it's not available in India just yet. So we suggest you stick to your dating apps for now.
  16. The Apple Watch has some handy features that have helped save lives in the past. The Apple Watch Series 4 has a new feature called “Fall Detection” which basically detects when the user takes a hard fall. The feature taps the user's wrists and sounds an alarm so that it can catch a bystander's attention. Having said that, you're not always around people that can help which is why the fall detection feature can also notify local emergency services. © Apple The way it works is that if after taking a fall a user does not respond or is unconscious for more than a minute, the Apple Watch directly contacts emergency services and sends your location to the authorities. This feature helped save a Norwegian man's life a few months ago. © Apple The feature came in handy yet again when an 80-year-old woman fell in her apartment in Haidhausen, Munich. The woman fell and lost consciousness which in turn resulted in an automatic call being placed to Emergency Services. This is what the Munich Fire Department had to say: “Last night, an 80-year-old woman fell into her apartment and, thanks to her watch, unconsciously dropped off a necessary emergency call. Her watch was equipped with a fall detection system and alerted the emergency services after the fall. A dispatcher in the integrated control centre accepted the emergency call. He heard a band announcement telling him that a person had fallen heavily. Likewise, the clock transmitted the coordinates of the scene of the accident. The police used the data to identify an address to which an ambulance had been alerted. The ambulance crew found that the door was locked and the retiree could not open it. Then they called for the fire department, which opened the apartment door by force. During this action, the smartwatch alarmed the son, who had deposited his phone number as an emergency number. Since the woman was not injured, the ambulance crew cared her only until the arrival of the son. He took over the further care.” © Apple Not only did the Apple Watch notify emergency services, but it also notified the woman's son who arrived in time to see her get treated. The woman did not require hospitalisation because of the timely response by the Emergency Services. Had there been no Apple Watch, the injuries could have been severe, as the woman was unconscious. 17. It seems like Apple may finally bring a feature from the Galaxy S10+ and Huawei Mate 20 Pro, now that AirPower has been cancelled by the company. The two smartphones currently offer reverse wireless charging that charge other devices on the go. It works with devices that support wireless charging such as smartphones and now true wireless earbuds. The Galaxy Earbuds can be charged by the Galaxy S10 using wireless charging technology and now Apple has also introduced a wireless charging case for the AirPods. © Apple In order to complement the new AirPods wireless charging case, it seems like 2019 iPhones will be able to do the same. According to the renowned analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will have the same feature enabled for its latest device and will sport a bigger battery too. This will enable the iPhone to wirelessly charge the AirPods and even the App Watch without ever having the need for a wired charger. In order to charge these devices, iPhones will have to increase the battery capacity so that it has enough juice to wirelessly charge other devices. Kup predicts that the 5.8” iPhone's battery would increase from 20 to 25%. The larger 6.5” model is expected to have its battery size increased from 0 to 15%, and the 6.1” variant would increase its size from 0 to 5%. © Akshay Bhalla_MensXP Currently, the iPhone XS features a 2,658mAh battery while the larger iPhone XS Max has a 3,175 mAh battery. The cheaper iPhone XR has a battery size of 2,942 mAh which is currently not enough to support bilateral wireless charging. Source: 9to5Mac
  18. The Apple Watch has been dominating the wearables market ever since it was announced and is now considered the best smartwatch there is. The Apple Watch has added many useful features over the years, however, it lacked one feature that has been absent for a while. © Pillow The Cupertino giant is rumoured to be testing sleep tracking securely and according to insiders who spoke to Bloomberg and detailed Apple's plans. The Apple Watch is expected to launch the sleep tracking feature in 2020 and will essentially also kill third-party apps that are currently offering the same feature on the Apple Watch. Currently, apps like Pillow and Sleep++ offer a similar feature where it tracks a user's sleeping patterns and habits. Smartwatches that tend to have a sleep tracking feature usually last for days due to a larger battery. This will be a major hurdle for Apple to overcome, as the Apple Watch can last only for a day on a full charge. Apple may have to outfit the 2020 Apple Watch with a bigger battery or add a low power setting for speed mode. © Beddit Apple recently bought Beddit, a company that makes sleep tracking devices as well as apps for iOS and the Apple Watch. The company also launched a sensor strip that can be placed underneath a bed seat to track sleeping patterns and snoring habits. Sleep-tracking has been one of the most requested features by Apple Watch users, however, Apple will have to either increase the battery capacity or come up with a different solution in order to run this feature. We can only be sure when the new Apple Watch will be announced this year and its capabilities and see if it hints at the upcoming feature with a larger battery or a new power saving mode.
  19. Apple is known for releasing iOS updates like clockwork every year and the company is gearing up to unveil the new operating system later this year. Each year at WWDC, Apple announces a new and improved OS for the iPhone, iPad followed by a Beta testing period before its eventual launch. Apple keeps new operating system features a big secret however there are already rumours about the upcoming operating system. iOS is probably the most used operating system in the world and a new report by Bloomberg points towards some key changes that help the large install base in using the operating system. Some of these features have been long awaited by fans that will finally see the light of day if these rumours come true. Dark Mode © Twitter It's probably the most requested feature by Apple fans and it seems like the feature will finally come to iPhones and iPads. The rumoured dark mode will work similar to what we have already seen on macOS with darker accents and dark backgrounds. The feature will make looking at the screen for long periods of time less tiring. It will also be less disruptive to a user's natural sleep cycle. The dark mode will also help in improving battery life as iPhones now use OLED screens. Darker colours and themes tend to use less battery on a smartphone which will significantly increase the iPhone's battery life. Better iPad Features © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla iPad users will also get new features with the iOS 12 update as it will incorporate a new home screen and have the ability to tab through multiple versions of a single app. For example, if you have Safari open with many tabs, you will be able to browse pages with more ease. iOS 13 is also said to bring a better file management system, something the iPad needs to make it a proper replacement of a daily laptop. The new iPad Pro is already more powerful than many Windows laptops and a new file management system can change the game entirely. Improved CarPlay Functionality © Apple iOS 13 is also said to bring “improvements to CarPlay” according to the Bloomberg feature. CarPlay was already due for an update and a better interface with iOS 12 however it was pushed back by a year. As of now, there is no word on what the improvements might be however it seems like Apple will add more extensive developer tools making it more accessible for third-party apps. Source: Bloomberg
  20. The AirPods have been one of Apple's most successful and groundbreaking product that is due for an update by the Cupertino giant. The AirPods have been selling like hotcakes ever since its launch and it seems like a brand new version is on its way. It was revealed a few days ago that component suppliers believe that the successor to the wireless buds is on its way. Suppliers believe that it will likely be called AirPods 2 and will be launched in the first half of 2019. We've already reported about new biometric capabilities that may be a feature of AirPods 2. In fact, you can read about previous leaks and speculations here. © 9to5Mac Having said that, there's now a new leak that may point towards a feature we've always wanted on the AirPods. The leak was spotted by 9to5Mac and comes from a very unlikely source — Apple itself. The latest beta version of iOS 12.2 was rolled out to developers and in the setup screen, 9to5Mac discovered the new upcoming feature. In the set-up screen, it clearly says: “Talk to Siri with your AirPods or iPhone by saying 'Hey, Siri'.” © 9to5Mac This tells us that you can now access Siri by simply saying “Hey, Siri” which means the new AirPods will be smart enough to hear the prompt. It will work similar to how it works on the Apple Watch and on iPhones. In fact, just like other Apple products, it may be able to recognise your particular voice. It could be possible that this new feature may also be coming to existing AirPods however we aren't entirely sure if the onboard chip will be able to do so. © Pexels The new AirPods 2 is also expected to come with a new wireless charging case that will work with Apple's wireless charger called 'AirPower'. It is very likely that Apple will launch the new AirPods, the new wireless charger and even new iPads at an event scheduled for March 2019. Source: 9to5Mac
  21. The iPhone XI is expected to launch later this year, however, rumours are shaping it up to be one of the biggest phone launches by Apple. Rumours are hinting at a few features that may just be game-changing and others that have been long awaited for the iPhone. © Twitter A new patent application with the USPTO (US Patent and Trademark Office) was filed yesterday and it reveals what Apple has in store for the next iPhone. There will be a feature where the camera app will launch the moment you pick up the device making it instantly available to users. It was first spotted by Apple Insider where the patent describes it as “automatically activating a camera application implemented in a mobile device in a locked mode based on detecting that the user of the mobile device intends to capture a photograph.” Adding to this rumour, a post from C Technology or better known as “iCTech," lists five more features that are rumoured to be in the works. For instance, a previous rumour suggested that the iPhone XI will have a triple rear camera setup, however, C Technology adds that there will be a 3x telephoto lens. Other new features include a 4,000 mAh battery, 15W wireless charging, reduced TrueDepth camera notch and a 90 to 120Hz screen refresh rate. © YouTube ICTech has been known for some accurate and some dodgy leaks which means you should take this rumour with a pinch of salt. iCTech does not specify any sources, however, the account has previously leaked Apple's iPhone 5c Quick Start guide accurately. In terms of battery size claims, the iPhone XS and XS Max are currently powered by 2,658mAh and 3,174mAh batteries, respectively. Bumping it up to 4,000 mAh would be a massive overhaul for Apple and it would be hard for the company to fit this battery in the existing form factor. © Twitter Other recent rumours have suggested a smaller TrueDepth notch and the same was echoed by iCTech. The TrueDepth notch is expected to have a 10-megapixel selfie camera which will be an upgrade from the current 7MP found in the iPhone XS and XR. Finally, the 90 to 120 Z display is expected to be identical to what we have already seen on the 2019 iPad Pro. A higher refresh rate results in better animation and smoother experience which works best when playing games. Apple already uses something called ProMotion which basically means it has a variable display rate. The display automatically pushes the refresh rate between 24Hz and 120Hz depending on the activity you are doing on your phone. Source: Apple Insider
  22. The Apple Watch Series 4 comes with an ECG function that was recently released in the U.S. Since it became available for about a month, the feature is already proving to be a useful one. It was able to detect atrial fibrillation with the new feature and saved a man's life in Nashua, New Hampshire. Barry Maden originally bought the Apple Watch to “keep a closer eye on his health after suffering a brain injury.” He bought the Apple Watch for it's Fall Detection feature. “He originally got it because they have a new fall risk app where, if he were to fall and I'm not nearby, the fall sensor will sense that he fell and call 911,” said his wife, Tara Maden. © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla He originally thought he was suffering from anxiety due to travelling for the holidays. However, his Apple Watch alerted him that his heart appeared to be in A-fib. It isn't clear if Maden used the ECG app right away to detect the A-fib. However, it was enough for him to double check if he was suffering from something serious. He soon thereafter took himself to the emergency room. © Apple At the hospital, doctors performed their own tests using a more advanced ECG device to verify the Apple Watch's discovery. It was soon discovered that Maden's “heart was essentially stopped and restarted by doctors.” The Apple Watch has been found to save lives previously and recently saved a woman from drowning in water as her car flipped over. 23. Face unlocking is now a major feature on smartphones that was first introduced by Apple's iPhone X. However, a new study shows that a number of smartphones' face unlock feature can be defeated by a simple photo. © OnePlus The Dutch Consumerntenbond organisation tested over 100 devices and found that over 30 of them could be unlocked by using a picture of the owner. There's a massive number of devices that aren't exclusive to any smartphone maker, as the likes of BlackBerry, Nokia, Lenovo, Sony, Xiaomi, Huawei were featured amongst others. Most of these smartphones that got fooled were budget smartphones and a few flagship smartphones such as the Huawei P20 Pro, Sony's Xperia XZ2 and the HTC U11 Plus. Smartphones that passed the test also feature a range of smartphones such as the Honor 10, HTC U12, OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 6, Samsung's 2018 flagship smartphones and all 2018 iPhones. © Apple The organisation found that there were various smartphones that had could be unlocked straight away and some had more stringent face unlock settings. These stricter settings helped these smartphones to defeat photos.
