  1. Apple just announced iOS 13 for the iPhone and has started to roll out as a Beta for current devices. It comes with many new performance improvements and software tweaks to make the iPhone experience even better. One such feature is called "Optimized Battery Charging” and is designed to improve your battery's total life and health. © Macrumors The new mode can be found in the battery section of settings and you need to head to “Battery Health”. You can switch it if you want to extend your iPhone's battery life. When switched on, this mode basically learns from your usage and habits and then waits to finish charging to 100% until you need your device. © Pexels For a simpler explanation, if you charge your smartphone at night while sleeping, Apple will charge it to 80% and then wait an hour or so before you wake up to charge it up to 100%. This basically keeps your iPhone charged at optimum capacity and then charge the remaining capacity when you actually need it, instead of keeping the iPhone charged at 100%. © Reuters When any device with a battery is continually charging after it reaches maximum capacity, this, in turn, does affect the battery health. This new feature is essentially a life safer who want to keep using their iPhone without having the need of replacing the battery sooner than expected. This feature will eventually prolong the life of the device as long as possible. If you would like to check out iOS 13, you can follow our guide on how to install it on your device right now. According to Apple, these are devices that can take part in the iOS 13 beta - iPhone XS, XS Max iPhone XR iPhone X iPhone 8, 8 Plus iPhone 7, 7 Plus iPhone 6s, 6s Plus iPhone SE iPod Touch 7th Generation Source: Macrumors
  2. It has been long rumoured that Apple will be bringing one of its most beloved features on iPhones, but it will be different from what we are used to. There have been previous rumours suggesting that Apple will include an on-screen fingerprint scanner on the next iPhone and the company's latest patent confirms the plans. It may not come as soon as this year's iPhone, however, it is expected to come sooner or later. (c) Pexels According to the latest patent spotted by Patently Apple, the company wants to embed a pinhole camera being the display of the smartphone. This camera will be able to create a 3D map of your fingerprint regardless of where you place your finger. The new feature will be an additional form of biometric unlocking and the company will not be replacing FaceID anytime soon. The two methods will make the iPhone even more secure as current iPhones only supports FaceID. (c) Pexels The more exciting bit about this patent is that Apple has shown pictures of a prototype, which means that the company is already done with the development process. The new unlocking method is expected to go into mass production by 2020 and will be a feature on 2020 iPhones. The new unlocking method is not the first time we're something like this as Xiaomi has also developed a version which works similar to Apple's patent. Source: Patently Apple
  3. Facebook announced a bunch of new things at the F8 conference last night. From a new Facebook interface and an updated Messenger app, there's a lot to look forward to. But you know what caught our attention the most? The new dating features. Yes, Facebook Dating is expanding to several new countries and the company is introducing a new feature called 'Secret Crush'. © Facebook As the name suggests, Facebook's new 'Secret Crush' feature will help you connect with your crush. If you choose to opt-in to this feature, you can select up to nine friends and signal them that you have a crush on them. And if they decide to check out Facebook Dating and end up selecting you as their secret crush, then both of you will get notified. That's it! A match made in heaven! Facebook says your love interest will be disclosed only when the feelings are mutual. But given the current situation, we see how people might find it hard to trust Facebook with something like this. Seriously, Facebook has proven time and again that it is not really capable of handling our personal information responsibly. But hey, if your crush still has an account on the platform, then this is one way of trying your luck and opening to your crush. You still have to be over 18 to use Facebook Dating though, and it's not available in India just yet. So we suggest you stick to your dating apps for now.
  4. The Apple Watch has some handy features that have helped save lives in the past. The Apple Watch Series 4 has a new feature called “Fall Detection” which basically detects when the user takes a hard fall. The feature taps the user's wrists and sounds an alarm so that it can catch a bystander's attention. Having said that, you're not always around people that can help which is why the fall detection feature can also notify local emergency services. © Apple The way it works is that if after taking a fall a user does not respond or is unconscious for more than a minute, the Apple Watch directly contacts emergency services and sends your location to the authorities. This feature helped save a Norwegian man's life a few months ago. © Apple The feature came in handy yet again when an 80-year-old woman fell in her apartment in Haidhausen, Munich. The woman fell and lost consciousness which in turn resulted in an automatic call being placed to Emergency Services. This is what the Munich Fire Department had to say: “Last night, an 80-year-old woman fell into her apartment and, thanks to her watch, unconsciously dropped off a necessary emergency call. Her watch was equipped with a fall detection system and alerted the emergency services after the fall. A dispatcher in the integrated control centre accepted the emergency call. He heard a band announcement telling him that a person had fallen heavily. Likewise, the clock transmitted the coordinates of the scene of the accident. The police used the data to identify an address to which an ambulance had been alerted. The ambulance crew found that the door was locked and the retiree could not open it. Then they called for the fire department, which opened the apartment door by force. During this action, the smartwatch alarmed the son, who had deposited his phone number as an emergency number. Since the woman was not injured, the ambulance crew cared her only until the arrival of the son. He took over the further care.” © Apple Not only did the Apple Watch notify emergency services, but it also notified the woman's son who arrived in time to see her get treated. The woman did not require hospitalisation because of the timely response by the Emergency Services. Had there been no Apple Watch, the injuries could have been severe, as the woman was unconscious. 5. It seems like Apple may finally bring a feature from the Galaxy S10+ and Huawei Mate 20 Pro, now that AirPower has been cancelled by the company. The two smartphones currently offer reverse wireless charging that charge other devices on the go. It works with devices that support wireless charging such as smartphones and now true wireless earbuds. The Galaxy Earbuds can be charged by the Galaxy S10 using wireless charging technology and now Apple has also introduced a wireless charging case for the AirPods. © Apple In order to complement the new AirPods wireless charging case, it seems like 2019 iPhones will be able to do the same. According to the renowned analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will have the same feature enabled for its latest device and will sport a bigger battery too. This will enable the iPhone to wirelessly charge the AirPods and even the App Watch without ever having the need for a wired charger. In order to charge these devices, iPhones will have to increase the battery capacity so that it has enough juice to wirelessly charge other devices. Kup predicts that the 5.8” iPhone's battery would increase from 20 to 25%. The larger 6.5” model is expected to have its battery size increased from 0 to 15%, and the 6.1” variant would increase its size from 0 to 5%. © Akshay Bhalla_MensXP Currently, the iPhone XS features a 2,658mAh battery while the larger iPhone XS Max has a 3,175 mAh battery. The cheaper iPhone XR has a battery size of 2,942 mAh which is currently not enough to support bilateral wireless charging. Source: 9to5Mac
  6. The Apple Watch has been dominating the wearables market ever since it was announced and is now considered the best smartwatch there is. The Apple Watch has added many useful features over the years, however, it lacked one feature that has been absent for a while. © Pillow The Cupertino giant is rumoured to be testing sleep tracking securely and according to insiders who spoke to Bloomberg and detailed Apple's plans. The Apple Watch is expected to launch the sleep tracking feature in 2020 and will essentially also kill third-party apps that are currently offering the same feature on the Apple Watch. Currently, apps like Pillow and Sleep++ offer a similar feature where it tracks a user's sleeping patterns and habits. Smartwatches that tend to have a sleep tracking feature usually last for days due to a larger battery. This will be a major hurdle for Apple to overcome, as the Apple Watch can last only for a day on a full charge. Apple may have to outfit the 2020 Apple Watch with a bigger battery or add a low power setting for speed mode. © Beddit Apple recently bought Beddit, a company that makes sleep tracking devices as well as apps for iOS and the Apple Watch. The company also launched a sensor strip that can be placed underneath a bed seat to track sleeping patterns and snoring habits. Sleep-tracking has been one of the most requested features by Apple Watch users, however, Apple will have to either increase the battery capacity or come up with a different solution in order to run this feature. We can only be sure when the new Apple Watch will be announced this year and its capabilities and see if it hints at the upcoming feature with a larger battery or a new power saving mode.
  7. Apple is known for releasing iOS updates like clockwork every year and the company is gearing up to unveil the new operating system later this year. Each year at WWDC, Apple announces a new and improved OS for the iPhone, iPad followed by a Beta testing period before its eventual launch. Apple keeps new operating system features a big secret however there are already rumours about the upcoming operating system. iOS is probably the most used operating system in the world and a new report by Bloomberg points towards some key changes that help the large install base in using the operating system. Some of these features have been long awaited by fans that will finally see the light of day if these rumours come true. Dark Mode © Twitter It's probably the most requested feature by Apple fans and it seems like the feature will finally come to iPhones and iPads. The rumoured dark mode will work similar to what we have already seen on macOS with darker accents and dark backgrounds. The feature will make looking at the screen for long periods of time less tiring. It will also be less disruptive to a user's natural sleep cycle. The dark mode will also help in improving battery life as iPhones now use OLED screens. Darker colours and themes tend to use less battery on a smartphone which will significantly increase the iPhone's battery life. Better iPad Features © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla iPad users will also get new features with the iOS 12 update as it will incorporate a new home screen and have the ability to tab through multiple versions of a single app. For example, if you have Safari open with many tabs, you will be able to browse pages with more ease. iOS 13 is also said to bring a better file management system, something the iPad needs to make it a proper replacement of a daily laptop. The new iPad Pro is already more powerful than many Windows laptops and a new file management system can change the game entirely. Improved CarPlay Functionality © Apple iOS 13 is also said to bring “improvements to CarPlay” according to the Bloomberg feature. CarPlay was already due for an update and a better interface with iOS 12 however it was pushed back by a year. As of now, there is no word on what the improvements might be however it seems like Apple will add more extensive developer tools making it more accessible for third-party apps. Source: Bloomberg
  8. The AirPods have been one of Apple's most successful and groundbreaking product that is due for an update by the Cupertino giant. The AirPods have been selling like hotcakes ever since its launch and it seems like a brand new version is on its way. It was revealed a few days ago that component suppliers believe that the successor to the wireless buds is on its way. Suppliers believe that it will likely be called AirPods 2 and will be launched in the first half of 2019. We've already reported about new biometric capabilities that may be a feature of AirPods 2. In fact, you can read about previous leaks and speculations here. © 9to5Mac Having said that, there's now a new leak that may point towards a feature we've always wanted on the AirPods. The leak was spotted by 9to5Mac and comes from a very unlikely source — Apple itself. The latest beta version of iOS 12.2 was rolled out to developers and in the setup screen, 9to5Mac discovered the new upcoming feature. In the set-up screen, it clearly says: “Talk to Siri with your AirPods or iPhone by saying 'Hey, Siri'.” © 9to5Mac This tells us that you can now access Siri by simply saying “Hey, Siri” which means the new AirPods will be smart enough to hear the prompt. It will work similar to how it works on the Apple Watch and on iPhones. In fact, just like other Apple products, it may be able to recognise your particular voice. It could be possible that this new feature may also be coming to existing AirPods however we aren't entirely sure if the onboard chip will be able to do so. © Pexels The new AirPods 2 is also expected to come with a new wireless charging case that will work with Apple's wireless charger called 'AirPower'. It is very likely that Apple will launch the new AirPods, the new wireless charger and even new iPads at an event scheduled for March 2019. Source: 9to5Mac
  9. The iPhone XI is expected to launch later this year, however, rumours are shaping it up to be one of the biggest phone launches by Apple. Rumours are hinting at a few features that may just be game-changing and others that have been long awaited for the iPhone. © Twitter A new patent application with the USPTO (US Patent and Trademark Office) was filed yesterday and it reveals what Apple has in store for the next iPhone. There will be a feature where the camera app will launch the moment you pick up the device making it instantly available to users. It was first spotted by Apple Insider where the patent describes it as “automatically activating a camera application implemented in a mobile device in a locked mode based on detecting that the user of the mobile device intends to capture a photograph.” Adding to this rumour, a post from C Technology or better known as “iCTech," lists five more features that are rumoured to be in the works. For instance, a previous rumour suggested that the iPhone XI will have a triple rear camera setup, however, C Technology adds that there will be a 3x telephoto lens. Other new features include a 4,000 mAh battery, 15W wireless charging, reduced TrueDepth camera notch and a 90 to 120Hz screen refresh rate. © YouTube ICTech has been known for some accurate and some dodgy leaks which means you should take this rumour with a pinch of salt. iCTech does not specify any sources, however, the account has previously leaked Apple's iPhone 5c Quick Start guide accurately. In terms of battery size claims, the iPhone XS and XS Max are currently powered by 2,658mAh and 3,174mAh batteries, respectively. Bumping it up to 4,000 mAh would be a massive overhaul for Apple and it would be hard for the company to fit this battery in the existing form factor. © Twitter Other recent rumours have suggested a smaller TrueDepth notch and the same was echoed by iCTech. The TrueDepth notch is expected to have a 10-megapixel selfie camera which will be an upgrade from the current 7MP found in the iPhone XS and XR. Finally, the 90 to 120 Z display is expected to be identical to what we have already seen on the 2019 iPad Pro. A higher refresh rate results in better animation and smoother experience which works best when playing games. Apple already uses something called ProMotion which basically means it has a variable display rate. The display automatically pushes the refresh rate between 24Hz and 120Hz depending on the activity you are doing on your phone. Source: Apple Insider
  10. The Apple Watch Series 4 comes with an ECG function that was recently released in the U.S. Since it became available for about a month, the feature is already proving to be a useful one. It was able to detect atrial fibrillation with the new feature and saved a man's life in Nashua, New Hampshire. Barry Maden originally bought the Apple Watch to “keep a closer eye on his health after suffering a brain injury.” He bought the Apple Watch for it's Fall Detection feature. “He originally got it because they have a new fall risk app where, if he were to fall and I'm not nearby, the fall sensor will sense that he fell and call 911,” said his wife, Tara Maden. © MensXP_Akshay Bhalla He originally thought he was suffering from anxiety due to travelling for the holidays. However, his Apple Watch alerted him that his heart appeared to be in A-fib. It isn't clear if Maden used the ECG app right away to detect the A-fib. However, it was enough for him to double check if he was suffering from something serious. He soon thereafter took himself to the emergency room. © Apple At the hospital, doctors performed their own tests using a more advanced ECG device to verify the Apple Watch's discovery. It was soon discovered that Maden's “heart was essentially stopped and restarted by doctors.” The Apple Watch has been found to save lives previously and recently saved a woman from drowning in water as her car flipped over. You can read about all other instances where Apple Watch has been found detecting heart diseases here. Source: WMUR
  11. Face unlocking is now a major feature on smartphones that was first introduced by Apple's iPhone X. However, a new study shows that a number of smartphones' face unlock feature can be defeated by a simple photo. © OnePlus The Dutch Consumerntenbond organisation tested over 100 devices and found that over 30 of them could be unlocked by using a picture of the owner. There's a massive number of devices that aren't exclusive to any smartphone maker, as the likes of BlackBerry, Nokia, Lenovo, Sony, Xiaomi, Huawei were featured amongst others. Most of these smartphones that got fooled were budget smartphones and a few flagship smartphones such as the Huawei P20 Pro, Sony's Xperia XZ2 and the HTC U11 Plus. Smartphones that passed the test also feature a range of smartphones such as the Honor 10, HTC U12, OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 6, Samsung's 2018 flagship smartphones and all 2018 iPhones. © Apple The organisation found that there were various smartphones that had could be unlocked straight away and some had more stringent face unlock settings. 12. The next PlayStation is rumoured to launch in 2019/2020. However, rumours have already started to suggest what Sony's next console might be. According to analyst Michael Pachter who spoke to Gaming Bolt, suggests that the console will support 4K games at 240 FPS and Sony PlayStation VR. © Pexels At the moment, the PlayStation 4 Pro supports 4K games but is locked at 30 FPS which is not quite ideal for UHD gaming. According to Pachter, “Whether Sony does it, I think they will probably have that 4K and 240 FPS device that'll support PSVR.” This may be in line with what Microsoft is also planning for the next Xbox as the company is also rumoured to launch two consoles. He adds, “Whether they have a PlayStation Now device that is streaming only, I don't know. Maybe there will be two each for PlayStation and Xbox, but I would be surprised if there were more than two, and I'm not sure whether Sony is committed to doing that.” © Pexels The fact that Sony may launch a considerably cheaper streaming console may be good news for the Indian market. Being a budget-conscious market, it may just be the most popular device in India if the console is priced aggressively. Having said that, being a streaming-only console has its own drawbacks. For example, the console will require a fast internet connection and must be online all the time. This can affect sales in India as high-speed broadband is currently not as fast as North America and Europe. © Pexels However, newer ISPs are already offering gigabit connections in Tier 1 cities that are more than capable of streaming games or even a digital-only console. Nevertheless, it's good news for Indian gamers due to the aggressive pricing that may just help in capturing the budget-conscious Indian market. 13. Which instant messaging app or service do you actively use? Your answer will definitely include WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Hike, or Skype. Now, can you send a message from WhatsApp to a contact on Hike? No, you can't. These apps have their own protocols for data transfer and services work inside their own bubble only. RCS (Rich Communications Services) is a new protocol that is meant to replace SMS (Short Message Service). With SMS, you can send a text or compressed image to anyone via a mobile number. SMS is a standard protocol and hence supported by every other phone or OS. You can send SMS from an iPhone to an Android phone. Unlike third-party apps, these protocols are universal and hence easily usable. © Google SMS is an age-old standard and supports just 160 characters in each transfer. While everyone has shifted to third-party IMs, SMS is still very important because of its reliability. It doesn't require a separate internet connection and is dependent completely on the carrier or telecom operator. This reliability gives a very crucial edge to SMS. Now, RCS will soon be the de facto protocol for messages. Google is a primary backer of RCS and major telecom operators around the world are working on supporting it. Google is rolling out the new features afforded by RCS as "chat" and it's part of the existing Android Messages app - alongside SMS and MMS. © Google RCS is very similar to Apple's iMessage service. It's a more interactive protocol that allows you to start group chats, send video and audio messages, and send high-resolution images. You'll also be able to receive read receipts and even see when someone is replying to your message in real time. If a user on the other end does not support RCS, text messages are sent in as SMS. The same practice is also seen on iMessage, if the two users have an Apple device, the chat happens over iMessage, else via SMS. Instead of using a cellular connection, Chat will rely on your data connection. © GSMA Though, RCS service doesn't support end-to-end encryption, meaning messages exchanged through this new protocol are less secure than those sent and received via competitors like iMessage and Signal.
  14. Microsoft announced on Saturday at its XO18 event that the console will now officially get mouse and keyboard support from November 14. The company is partnering with Razer to offer an exclusive “Designed for Xbox” mouse and keyboard that will be unveiled at the CES in January. © YouTube A total of eight games will be getting support on November 14th including ultra-popular battle royale game 'Fortnite'. The announcement was made along with several other announcements. Microsoft also said that the company is planned to acquire two new game studios i.e. Obsidian Entertainment and inXile Entertainment. © Pexels “These two creative teams will continue to operate autonomously and bring their unique talents, IP and expertise to Microsoft Studios as they build new RPG experiences for our players and fans,” Microsoft said. Developers can choose to require controllers in multiplayer games, or they could choose to pair mouse-and-keyboard gamers with PC gamers online thanks to the Xbox One's support for crossplay. Having said that, players will not be able to use a mouse and keyboard for every game on the Xbox One. Microsoft detailed that “With this new input support at the platform level, developers can now build mouse and keyboard support in their games if and how they choose. It's important to note that mouse and keyboard support for games is added on a title-by-title basis, entirely at developers' discretion. For all other titles, nothing changes. Mouse and keyboard input is not enabled by default for games. Each development team knows their titles best and we support them in creating the right experience for their games as they see fit, to ensure an optimal and fair gaming experience.” Here's a list of games that will offer support for keyboard and mouse in November along with many other developers adding support for their games in the near future: “Fortnite” “Warframe” “Bomber Crew” “Deep Rock Galactic” “Strange Brigade” “Vermintide 2” “War Thunder” “X-Morph Defence”
  15. Apple just released the iOS 12.1 update for the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR which means a range of new features are coming. Notably, the new update brings in group facetime, new Animojis and a new feature Indians have been waiting for years. You can finally enable the dual SIM feature on the new iPhones starting from today. Apple uses the dual-SIM feature a little differently from Android smartphones as it does not require a second physical SIM card. It uses the eSIM technology to add a second number to your iPhone. © YouTube Currently, only Airtel and Jio offer eSIM services; hence, in order to use this feature, you must be subscribed to one of the two mobile operators. For your second SIM/number, here are the steps you need to follow to activate the services: 1. Download and update your iPhone XS/XS Max or XR to iOS 12.1 2. Send an SMS to 121 – Type “eSIM” <space> “registered email id” (in case you don't have registered email, then get in touch with customer care to register it first). 3. You will then receive an email with the QR Code. 4. Scan the QR code from a different device by going to Settings > Cellular > Add Cellular Plan. (You can also add these details manually.) 5. You will then receive an SMS to confirm the entire process. You can even switch the primary number within the settings as the iPhone by default sets your Nano SIM as primary. If you want to switch your eSIM number to primary, you can configure it from the settings menu. However, we found out that Airtel is currently facing issues for activating eSIM services. We would recommend you wait until you get official word from Airtel or check with the operator via its customer care.

  17. 'Baahubali' is one of the greatest movies ever made and there's just one word to explain it - magnificent and the credit entirely goes to S.S. Rajamouli and the entire cast and crew of the movie. Arka Media Works Can you imagine someone climbing up mountains with bare hands and crossing waterfalls like it's nobody's business, just to meet the girl of his dreams? Well, if you have seen 'Baahubali' chances are you will know what I am talking about. We're talking about the iconic waterfall scene where Shivudu aka Mahendra Baahubali jumps across a waterfall to meet Avanthika. It's the same waterfall scene that took Rajamouli 109 days to shoot and the sequence was shot at 3 different waterfall locations. Arka Media Works While, it took the crew members over 100 days to shoot the sequence, it took Mahendra Singh Dhoni one Instagram post to recreate the same magic. Obviously, he did not jump from a waterfall, but his fans have already started hailing him as Baahubali. In fact, you too won't be able to stop yourself from comparing Dhoni to Baahubali once you watch the video. Instagram While Team India is busy fighting England in the five-match Test series, Dhoni is currently chilling in Ranchi. And when we say chilling, it's not him sitting in the comfort of his house; it's getting a free head massage under a waterfall and reliving the memories after 10 years, and making millions of people burn with jealousy by posting the video. He wrote on Instagram, “With 3 waterfalls around Ranchi, v (we) cd (could) do this whenever v (we) wanted but now to do something like this after more than 10yrs brings back the good old memories. head massage for free.” With 3 waterfalls around Ranchi, v cd do this whenever v wanted but now to do something like this after more than 10yrs brings back the good old memories.head massage for free A post shared by M S Dhoni (@mahi7781) on Aug 11, 2018 at 10:34pm PDT If S.S. Rajamouli is reading this and has any plans to make 'Baahubali 3', we guess you should cast Dhoni as Baahubali's brother already.
  18. WhatsApp has officially rolled out group calling feature on Android and iOS devices after the company launched voice and video call support back in 2016. Well, anything you do, make sure WhatsApp on your device has been updated in order to make use of this feature. After you've updated the app, here are the steps you need to follow. . Open WhatsApp from the home screen or your app drawer. . Click on the Calls Tab . Choose a contact from your list whom you want to call. (Video or Voice) . Once you are connected to a call, you can tap the add participant button on the top right corner. . Select the second contact from your list you wish to add on the call . You can add up to 4 participants in total in a single group call. Follow step 4 and step 5 each time. © Whatsapp WhatsApp mentioned in its blog that group calls are always going to be end-to-end encrypted, and they've designed calling to work reliably around the world in different network conditions. 19. Fake News - the term has been trending for the past few months and it will continue to do so, until strict measures aren't deployed. Basically, fake news consists of propaganda or spreading of false information to further one's agenda. The term has been used extensively by U.S. President Donald Trump on multiple occasions and the effects of this menace are being witnessed in India as well. © Reuters In India, fake news has already caused the deaths of innocent citizens and journalists. Inflamed by fake warnings of child-trafficking rings or organ harvesters sent via WhatsApp, people have resorted to vigilante justice. The government has been calling for “immediate action to end this menace" and is closely working with companies to prevent the spread of unverified information. Facebook-owned WhatsApp has been at the center of the issue, because it is the most widely used Instant Messenger in India and hardly has any mechanism in place to prevent the spread of information. The messages sent across the app are encrypted as well, hence law enforcement authorities have negligible chances of tracking the source of these messages. © WhatsApp WhatsApp has now released an update that adds a "Forwarded" label to messages that are simply being sent over from other users. It may seem like a minor addition, but the company says it can help people categorize fake news and other types of misinformation. "It also helps you determine if your friend or relative wrote the message they sent, or if it originally came from someone else," WhatsApp said in a statement. "Question information that upsets you", says WhatsApp's full-page advertisements. Clearly the solution to declining newspaper ad revenues in India will come from how we tackle our digital fake news crisis. pic.twitter.com/3h5XyJeMIr — Anuj Srivas (@AnujSrivas) July 10, 2018 The app has also put out full-page newspaper ads across the country, in an attempt to bring the attention of users to the issue. In a way, the company is trying to let the users know that not all information received is accurate and the forward label highlights that the information is simply being passed on and isn't verified. The company is also exploring the use of machine learning techniques to identify malicious content and said it was testing a method to identify forwards. Rumors on WhatsApp have led to the death of nearly 31 people in 10 states over the past one year. "As a reminder, you can report spam or block a contact in one tap and can always reach out to WhatsApp directly for help," the statement said.
  20. Samsung was first rumoured in June to be working on a 3D facial recognition technology for its next-generation Galaxy flagship phone. The same has now been corroborated by a patent filing that was approved in late Q2 2018 by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This means, that the Samsung Galaxy S10 is all set to feature a Face ID-type facial recognition technology when it launches next year. According to the filing, the patent was applied in 2014 and covers 3D sensing for facial recognition. The biometric camera integrated into a mobile device will feature iris recognition that will be used to scan a user's iris via the front-facing camera. © Patently Mobile The technology may also support 3D time-of-flight sensor, night-vision camera, proximity sensing, structured light for 3D sensing, eye positioning and gaze tracking camera. Apple released the iPhone X last year that featured an infrared scanner in the notch. This scanner verified the face of the user using thousands of points across the face and acted as a much more secure medium of authentication than a camera-based Face Unlock. © Samsung On the other hand, Samsung has been relying on iris scanning as another method of authentication. Samsung integrated this method first in the Note 7 and since then, all the flagships including Note 8 and S9 have sported the authentication method. OPPO Find X and Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition are the two smartphones, apart from iPhone X, that come with 3D face recognition technology. The patent says it includes an extended depth of field (EDOF) lens, a bandpass filter to filter out ambient light, and an imaging sensor to convert an object's optical image into an electronic signal for processing. © 3D Facial Sensing on OPPO Find X / OPPO It still remains unclear as to when Samsung plans to introduce the biometric system to a mobile device. Though rumours suggest we will get a first glimpse of the new feature soon with the S10, that is scheduled to come in next year. Keep in mind, companies secure patents on a regular basis and it does not guarantee that the technology will make it to an end product. Samsung has been filing patents for a foldable smartphone for years and we expect the same to materialize soon. Source: Patently Apple
  21. This is how to make an IPB Feature Plan. Please note that this is not a RIP of IPS', this is my own version, so if you find any variations that is why. If you find any bugs, please comment them below. I will not attempt to fix them, but if someone comments a fix for a bug, I will edit it into this tutorial. Requirements: Pages Application (can be found in funday's copy of IPS 4.x). Basic Knowledge of PHP. A knowledge of the Pages application. Go into your ACP > Pages > Databases. Click Create New to create a new Database. A pop-up will appear. Make sure you are on the Create New Database and click Next. Make the name of your Database whatever you'd like, I suggest Feature Plan. Make the settings exactly as shown in the picture. It's very important to have your Use categories settings set to No. Once you've created your database head over to the Templates section. ACP > Pages > Templates Read carefully from here on because it can be a little tricky if you miss a step. Once you are inside the Templates section click New > Add database template. Here's where you have to be careful and follow my instructions exactly. You will get a pop-up presenting you with a few options. Fill in the options exactly as show in the picture. Under the HTML tab you should see a new folder called Plan with 5 different templates under it. Paste the code provided below in the appropriate template. recordRow: http://pastebin.com/M3GxdMtk filterMessage: http://pastebin.com/2zjxQ6B2 categoryTable: http://pastebin.com/ZF63gtrQ categoryHeader: http://pastebin.com/rSpLb2Cx categoryFooter: http://pastebin.com/UeJtv1T6 Inside the categoryHeader template you should see some non-code text. You can edit that code to change the Title and Subtitle at the top of your Feature Plan. Inside of the recordRow template search for {{if $row->fieldValues()['field_19'] Keep that tab open and open a new tab inside of Pages in the ACP. Click in the fields section of the Feature Plan database. You should see the Status section. Click on the pencil to edit the database. Open notepad or some other text editor. Paste in the URL of the page you just opened. At the end you should see something like do=form&id=19. You need the number at the end of the URL. Mine happens to be 19. Yours might be 125 or it might be 4. Move back to the tab you have open where you located {{if $row->fieldValues()['field_19'] inside of the recordRow template. Change field_19 to field_YOURNUMBERHERE. Obviously filling in YOURNUMBERHERE with the number at the end of the URL you copied into a text editor. Inside the ACP go to Pages > Pages. Click New Page and choose Page Builder for the Content Editor option. Click next. Make the pages name what you choose. I recommend simply Feature Plan. Go to the menu tab at the top and click add to menu. Leave those settings as is and click save. Navigate to the index page of your forums. The homepage. Click on Feature Plan in the navigation bar. Or whatever you named it. In the left you should see a little arrow peaking out. Click it. Click the arrow on Pages and drag the Database option onto the page wherever you'd like. Click the edit button on the Database module and choose the Feature Plan database. Click finish editing. Go to the Fields area of the Feature Plan database. Make a field called Summary. Make your settings exactly like this > and Make another field called Status. Settings like this > and {{if intval( $formValue ) === 1}} <span class='c4StatusBadge c4StatusBadge_upNext'>{$value}</span> {{elseif intval( $formValue ) === 2}} <span class='c4StatusBadge c4StatusBadge_comingSoon'>{$value}</span> {{elseif intval( $formValue ) === 3}} <span class='c4StatusBadge c4StatusBadge_future'>{$value}</span> {{elseif intval( $formValue ) === 4}} <span class='c4StatusBadge c4StatusBadge_done'>{$value}</span> {{endif}} Also this: So there you go. That's my interpretation of the Feature Plan. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and it helped you. If I helped you out or you have a question, please drop a comment below. TO FIX THE ERROR WITH DISPLAYING STATUSES In Feature Plan > Fields, Navigate to Status > Edit > Display Options and Change the Template Key from status to status2.
