  2. As much as we would like to get a bespoke suit, visiting a tailor, getting yourself measured up and then wait for the mastercraftsmen to stitch up the suit is not exactly an option. That's because for most Indian men, getting a new suit is almost always a last-minute thing, given how we tend to procrastinate on shopping. © iStock What happens then is that we just pick something up, off of the rack, wear the readymade suit for whatever event or gathering we bought it for, pack it and stow it away, and call it a day. Not what should be the ideal way to go about things, but not a bad option either, especially considering how really good bespoke suits are often astronomically priced. © Instagram/nikitajaisinghani All this being said, there are issues with readymade suits, and they mainly pertain to the fittings and how the suit actually drapes over your body. The perfect suit should have a silhouette of its own, and yet, should conform to the contours and built of your body. All this while, it should also be as comfortable as a set of pyjamas, without looking like one. © iStock Here are a few nifty tricks and tricks that you should keep in mind when you are browsing the racks for your next suit. Trust us, these will definitely help you to pick something up that makes you look like a gentleman. Almost like Bond: 1. The Shoulder Test © Instagram/ishabhansali Simply lean against a wall, and observe if the shoulder pads hit the wall before your shoulder and start scrunching up. If it does, look for something else, and do consider switching brands. Ideally, your shoulder pad and shoulder should hit the wall almost simultaneously. If the shoulder pads are too thick, the suit looks very ill-fitting and can get uncomfortable at times, especially as you move about. 2. The Hug Test © Instagram/nikitajaisinghani This is actually one of the simpler tests out there, and applies to any buttoned piece that you wear for the upper half of your body, be it shirts, cardigans, and jackets. Button up your shirt as well as your suit all the way up and try to hug someone, or create a concise circle with your arm. If you start feeling your clothes restraining you or making you feel like the Hulk just about to burst out of his clothes, go for a size up, or a more relaxing fit. 3. The Nervous Collar Test © iStock Although this works mainly for shirts, this works really well with blazers, coats and other stuff, which have a stiff collar. Once you have buttoned up all the way, just insert your index finger between the collar, and your neck, and move it around the curve. Your finger should fit right in, without causing any pressure your neck. If it moves too freely, you need to pick something that has a more snug fit, whereas if you feel uncomfortable even for a tiny bit, go for a size up. 4. The Handshake Test © iStock When making clothes off-the-rack, most manufacturers tend to follow the policy, one size fits all. The downside is some really weird measurements are cut out. The most common area, that this happens in a suit. is the hole around your shoulder and armpit. Just extend your arm as if you are about to shake someone's hand. If your shoulders prop up, look for a better fitting suit. 5. The Curled Finger Test © Instagram/ishabhansali Finally, we have this gem of a test that helps you find the right length of the jacket or the blazer that you are going for. Simply relax your arm while it is down and curl up your fingers as if you are about to pick up a bucket. Place the fingers beneath the hem of your suit. If the hem is just barely touching the furthermost part of your palm, you have your perfect length. Anything else, any bunching up or gaps, look for a suit whose jacket is a bit longer. 4. From her extroverted yet rebellious character in 'Tanu Weds Manu', to her bravely innocuous and underrated character in 'Queen', Kangana has come a long way to reach where all the A-list stars in Bollywood are at the moment. Her ability to direct her way towards more meaningful and wholesome roles is an added quality to her personality and she carries her strength as a woman, very comfortably, all around her. So much so, we really couldn't think of anyone else who would aptly fit the role of Manikarnika, from 'Manikarnika-The Queen of Jhansi'. (c)Zee Studios The role demanded someone who was very comfortable in their skin yet fierce and bold in their ideology, just like Jhansi ki Rani was. After the release of 'Queen', Kangana thought of pursuing a more technical side to films and hence thought of her stance as a director. After what seemed like a struggle of putting the beautiful film in front of a billion people, she proudly shares directorial credits with Krish Jagalamudi, for 'Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi'. (c)Twitter Rani Laxmibai was an epitome of survival of the fittest and gave gender roles another realm altogether when she contributed her half to fight for India's first war on independence. If anyone fits the bill to reincarnate her persona on screen, it's Kangana and here are some reasons why! (1) Her Determination To Achieve Anything While Kangana has come into the limelight for many controversies regarding her personal stance in life, her grit and determination to move forward and stand her ground has stood first and foremost. From her stand on the #MeToo movement to her fight to tell the truth about her past abusive relationships, she's managed to survive the fittest notions about being a strong powerful and determined woman and that clearly reflects in her character play as Manikarnika, in the movie. Manikarnika fought hard against the British rule to keep her kingdom intact and fought for her people rather than bowing down to the British. Her actual determination to achieve that dream and fight for it, is what makes Kangana more fitting to play the role. (c)Zee Studios (2) Her Tryst With Trying Tougher Roles If you remember her first movie, 'Gangster', you would know how complex that role was for a debutant and yet she bagged a Filmfare award for her performance for it. Kangana has always taken a variety of challenging roles, which make her characters stand out and you can never forget them. For instance, in 'Fashion', she played a model who was a drug addict, a role which is hard to fit into. Even though Priyanka stole the limelight for the film, Kangana's feature was well appreciated too. After taking numerous challenging roles to experiment and play with, she was truly deserving of one of the most challenging roles and she did fair justice to it as well. (c)Zee Studios (3) She's Fearless Kangana has always been known as someone who doesn't fear anyone. From calling Karan Johar the 'flag-bearer of nepotism' in the industry to speaking up against the Karni Sena threats, this woman fears nothing. She's always fighting her own battles fearlessly and has a strong belief system. So much so, people look up to her for the same. This is one of the main reasons why she fits the bill to play Manikarnika because her personality, as a whole, reflects her on-screen presence and makes the character more real and vivacious. (c)Zee Studios No, this isn't a paid article or a PR stunt to promote Kangana or her acting prowess. This is a critical review of someone who is a perfectionist in every right from someone who loved watching her on-screen and sharing a perspective or two. I really hope 'Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi' does phenomenally well, because it's not just about Kangana's prowess to nail the role but a story about a legend who should never be forgotten. 5. If you have watched the latest 'Fantastic Beasts' movie then this is a cool ground for further investigation, if not, then beware, spoilers ahead! While the latest instalment was slow in parts, interesting in some, the wild ending opened a Pandora's box of discussion for fans and viewers. Who would have thought that Credence, who is seeking his history so desperately, would stun everyone when his identity was finally revealed. © Warner Bros It is already established that the movie draws from the Harry Potter universe and there is an obvious connection between the two. However, in case, your memory is not jogging fast enough and you need a recollection of exactly how everything in this movie fits in the world of Harry Potter, then allow us to elaborate. 1. The Mirror Of Erised- Now, we are familiar with this magical mirror which is known to show us nothing but the 'most deepest and desperate desires of our heart'. Back in the first book, 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone', when Harry asks Dumbledore what does the mirror show him, Albus is quick to respond with 'thick, woollen socks'. Of course, it is a lie but this movie shows what the younger Dumbledore truly desired when we get a glimpse of his intimate relationship with none other than his friend-turned-nemesis Gellert Grindelwald himself. © Warner Bros 2. Nicolas Flamel- I don't know about you, but the excited me got more excited to see the man from the first book come alive on the screen for the first time. He is the French Alchemist who is known to have the elixir of life, is immortal and is also, as we know, Dumbledore's close friend. When Lord Voldemort is on the lookout for the stone, Flamel trusts Albus with it. © Warner Bros 3. Dumbledore's Empathy For Obscurials- As per various theories, Dumbledore's sister was an Obscurial who was abused by Muggles as a kid and therefore never practised magic. This suppression led to uncontollable outbursts of power from her. Their father Percival is sent to Azkaban for killing the muggles and never reveals the intention, fearing that the Ministry would take Ariana away. Eventually, Ariana's outbursts end up with them losing their mother and then Albus becomes their guardian. He later develops an idea with his friend Grindelwald that a utopian world could exist for wizards, which leads them towards 'The Deathly Hallows'. In the same book, we read that Harry learnt about the duel between the brothers and Grindelwald and Ariana's demise that kept Dumbledore guilty all his life. It makes sense that he wants Newt to protect Credence, because he doesn't want another obscurial to face a horrific destiny. 4. The Conflict Between The Ministry Of Magic & Dumbledore- It is no surprise that there has always been a conflict of interest and clash of opinions between the two powerful entities of the wizard community. When Voldemort returned and was at large in the 'Order of the Phoenix', the Ministry practically went to war with Dumbledore, who was trying to tell the magical community that the Dark Lord was back. The same tension has been shown in this movie when the ministry bans him from teaching 'Defence Against The Dark Arts' and cuffs him up to keep a tab on every spell he casts. 5. Nagini's Reality – So another shocker in the trailer was that Nagini was in fact, a legit human being. She is a Maledictus who we believe, probably allies or is taken in by Voldemort, once she becomes a snake permanently. I was personally looking for more dope on her but the next instalment will probably take care of her backstory. © Warner Bros The next movie will open more cans of worm, we guess, and therefore the lukewarm feeling that this movie left us with, will most certainly be taken care of in the next one. I have faith in the direction of David Yates and I cannot wait to see what the newly discovered Dumbledore has in store for us.
  6. The might of an actor lies in their ability to act, yes, but it is equally about creating an impact capable of leaving the audience intrigued and hooked on for more. An actor does not just portray a character and performs on stage or the screen, but also works on the delivery that does justice to the demands of the character and renders it memorable to every theatre or movie-goer. While we talk about such fine actors, there's got to be a mention of the man of the moment, who has every cinema enthusiast going gaga about the endless possibilities over a particular '007' development. © Reuters News has surfaced that we might be looking at Idris Elba as the next “double-o-seven” in the making and we couldn't be more satisfied with the choice. Known best for his dynamic acting skills and a voice that has played a pivotal role to making many roles highly memorable (think Shere Khan in the 'Jungle Book'), we bear no doubts that Idris makes for a great fit as “Bond, James Bond” in the upcoming movies after Daniel Craig's departure from the franchise next year. More On The Man Himself © Reuters For those who might not be well aware of the man in question, Idris Elba is a 45-year-old British actor, who has made a name and carved a niche for himself in Hollywood. Fondly remembered for his stellar performance as Stringer in 'The Wire' and BBC's home production drama 'Luther', Idris has time and again showed the world that he holds immense potential to go from suave to ruthless and from sinister to disarming in a matter of few characters (or even frames for that matter). The news of him having potentially bagged the role of 007 started doing the rounds when he posted this intriguing tweet - my name's Elba, Idris Elba. pic.twitter.com/kEyyaVg8JX — Idris Elba (@idriselba) August 12, 2018 This got the tabloids into a frenzy and the news soon hit the screens across the world. However, within a little while, after the 'hype' began to gain momentum, Elba posted a new tweet that acted as sort of a killjoy to all the premature celebrations. This is what he had to say - Don't believe the HYPE... — Idris Elba (@idriselba) August 12, 2018 While we agree that we'd love to have a confirmation, this tweet has, however, left all of us hanging and we simply can't wait for a confirmation (or sadly even a denial) on the rumours! Now, while we have been voicing our support for this choice, you surely didn't expect us to leave you hanging without giving you valid reasons for it. Here are Elba's performances in 5 major productions that will re-affirm that he is indeed the best choice for the iconic role. 1. Stringer Bell From 'The Wire' © YouTube We had to kick off our argument with this one. The character of Stringer Bell portrayed by Elba in 'The Wire' is perhaps how the world went gaga over the man. His captivating and charismatic take on the aide de camp to a drug lord Barksdale, goes well with the cool and panache exhibited by Bond in difficult situations. Stringer Bell is calm and calculative with a display of intelligence we identify with 007. Convincingly cutthroat and well assessed in his means to achieve his targets, Bell reminds us of Bond's obsession of completing his missions to the T. 2. John Luther From 'Luther' © YouTube The titular role that put Elba on the map was that of detective John Luther who exhibited more than a few similarities to Bond's ways in this show. The otherwise calm Luther's demeanour stood out in greater contrast when he lost his cool, again reminding us of Bond, who is known to play to cool and sharp at all times. The show's violent edge also comes in handy when we're trying to pitch the two characters' combating skills against each. Severe and exuding vibes that scream danger, Luther chooses to stay aloof and within a shell, with not many friendships to count on, much like Bond. 3. Commandant From 'Beasts Of No Nation' © YouTube Another one of Elba's memorable portrayals, he does justice to the characters that are complex and flawed with defunct morals. His portrayal of a brutal and nuanced commandant or leader of a militia sets him as the predator who fights for the cause. The Commandant stands as an example of how situations can turn any man into a beast. The character and its struggles are relatable and on the other hand, remind us of Bond and his skilled antics and methods to achieve his goal without caring about the means. Charisma, strategy and resources all pulled into one - like Commandant, like Bond! 4. Nelson Mandela From 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom' © YouTube When most actors shuddered at the idea, Elba came through as the perfect fit to play one of the world's most loved political leaders of all times. The stellar performance he renders in the movie befits Mandela's amazing life story. Elba effortlessly presented the leader's struggles and strengths, thereby giving the world a closer look at the man's life. From the myriad shades of Mandela that he showcases on the screen, it can be said that he possesses the capability to portray the multi-hued and demanding character of James Bond. 5. Stacker Pentecost From 'Pacific Rim' © YouTube The leader of the pack and the one who sounded the cry of war and claimed his right to might, Marshal Stacker Pentecost came through as the ideal person to look up to. The depth of character and gravity that he showcases sets him in line to take up Bond's role in the truest sense. Pentecost is stern but can be kind too, just like Bond is to M, and knows just the right way to make people follow his commands. © Reuters Based on the many skills and acting calibre exhibited by Elba over the years and across various genres of film and drama, we bear no doubt in our minds that he is indeed a great choice for Bond and is more than capable of doing justice to the iconic character.
  7. Every guy has a favourite denim that he loves and pairs it up with every possible thing. From t-shirts and shirts to even blazers, denim can turn a look from drab to fab in no time. And men can go years without changing their denim style. It’s that guilty pleasure that you just can’t do without, but trust us guys, it’s time you explore the denim market out there and move on from those old jeans you’ve not had the heart to part with since high school. There is a lot more to denim than just the regular fit. It’s all about experimenting and finding out what fit goes better with which look. Enroute this denim discovery, you might just find yourself a denim fit that may become a complete game changer for you. So, are you ready to explore the world of denim? Well, ready or not, here we go! 1. Frazer: Mid Rise Straight Numero Uno Frazer is a relaxed denim fit that is a little loose from the waist to the leg opening. For those who hate body-hugging denim, this one’s perfect as it doesn’t stick to your skin at all and hangs loose. 2. Roger: Mid Rise Tapered Numero Uno Commonly known as the regular fit, the Roger fit is a mid-rise straight fit denim with a large leg opening. The trouser falls straight from the knee to the hem. This is one denim fit that goes with every body type but is best suited for those who prefer tucking in their shirts. 3. David: Low Rise Skinny Numero Uno Skinny is millennial entry to the denim market. A tight fitting variant of the denim family, this kind of denim is body-fitting from waist to the hem. The low rise skinny denim offers a more relaxed fit and sits below the belly button. This kind of denim is a tricky one to pull off by all and is best suited to men with a leaner body frame. 4. Marc: Mid-Rise Classic Slim Numero Uno A better version of the skinny fit, the mid-rise classic slim doesn’t set too tight or too loose on your body. It has a slim fit through the thigh with a narrow leg opening at the bottom. This mid-rise fit is suitable for men with an athletic body and also those who love to tuck in their shirts. 5. Martin: Low-Rise Tapered Numero Uno The low-rise tapered fit sets further below the navel and is just as comfortable as the Roger fit. However, the low-rise waistline suits men with a leaner body than a beer belly. Tucking in your shirts with this denim choice is a complete no, as it highlights your waistline. 6. Morice: Low-Rise Slim Numero Uno The low-rise denim is more fitted at the hip area. While the slim fit might be a comfortable choice, going with a low-rise version might not necessarily be everyone’s cup of tea. If you have a moderate waistline and confidence to pull off tight-fitted denim (a little looser than the skinny denim) with a cool tee and funky sneakers, we suggest you go for the kill! Choosing the right denim for your body type may be a series of trials and errors, but understanding the different fits available helps everything fall in the right place. Helping you understand your denim fit better, the real denim brand Numero Uno has sorted their denims out just for you, based on the different fittings, making it easier for you to take your pick. Don’t spend another season with those ill-fitted denims, head out and shop for the right pair, now!
  8. Katy Perry is not only one of the most talented singer but also a very good looking one. But there are times when things get a little different. While Katy Perry walked the red carpet (as red drapery) for the 2017 Met Gala all eyes were on her. The outfit which was chosen by Perry for the Met Gala was not only different but super duper weird. While the veil of the dress had a sign of 'witness' on it, we just couldn't understand what we should witness after witnessing that flamboyant dress. One thing that is certain is that Perry is one of the few Met Gala attendees who fully committed to the theme honoring Rei Kawakubo and Comme des Garçons. Check out the pictures! Katy, you okay?
