A self-proclaimed 'godman' who goes by the name of Swami Nithyananda has been in the news for various reasons for quite a while now. You've probably read about him, seen his forwarded videos on Whatsapp or God forbid, actually know a devotee of his, but chances are, you are fairly acquainted with this personality. Our nation is a melting pot of culture and various religious beliefs which have co-existed since time immemorial. Swami Nithyananda is one such businessman, if one may call him who is the founder of Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam, which has numerous trusts, ashrams and temples across various countries. Back in 2010, he first became controversy's friend when a *** tape starring him leaked online and his public image suffered a major blow. With time, the row flew away like dust because, in India, faith is bigger than facts, sometimes, right? His divine intervention and people devoting themselves to his teachings continued just like before and soon, all was well. People who are firm believers of logic have been going out of their way to defy his videos, teachings and school of thought but sadly, none of their efforts have been able to stop his bank balance from soaring steadily. Nithyananda grabbed eyeballs when he was accused of rape and several cases under Sections 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural ***), 420 (cheating), 114 (criminal abetment), 201 (disappearance of evidence, giving false information), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and other charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) were filed against him. © Twitter In a rather interesting yet highly disturbing development, Nithyananda, a giant public figure with a pending criminal record against him, managed to flee the country leaving a stack of charges in his wake, but then again, we are not surprised because turns out, while it is a herculean task for the common man to get a passport and a visa and wait in queues and go through security checks, the 'most wanted' people of our nation can just fly away with no consequences. And now, to add a cherry on top of the cake, Swami Nithyananda has apparently created a new nation of his own, a Hindu sovereign country called 'Kailaasa'. According to various sources, 'Kailaasa' has been found on an island near Ecuador in Latin America. Want to know more about this newfound country? Check out its dedicated website which you can access here. According to the website, 'Kailaasa is a nation without borders created by dispossessed Hindus from around the world who lost the right to practice Hinduism authentically in their own countries'. There are various links, which are not updated yet, but which supposedly let you make donations and even become a citizen. © Kailasa Also, the economy is apparently a 'dharmic' one where cryptocurrency will be accepted and will also soon have a passport of its own. Talking about passports, Swami Nithyananda's Indian passport was also expired when he fled the country, which I think is not a big deal at all. What is happening in our democracy and why is it happening, I cannot fathom. What I do know is that until we, as humans, continue giving other mortals the status of a God, who is probably not taking care of his disciples, then we are simply inviting doom. It's one thing to be motivated and inspired by someone's teachings but being duped is another story. Well, for now, let's wait for some information about how this 'nation' is going to function and how the 'godman' actually managed to fly out with an expired legal document in the first place. Who do we really turn to for the answers here? View the full article
