  12. Recently, in an interview with Indian Express, Bill Gates touched upon a lot of things, including the on-going pandemic, how the world handled it, and his thoughts on India. Yes, a lot of things to cover but he's a wise man and whenever he's saying something, we should all listen. This can be proved by just referring to his 6-year-old TED Talk where he warned about a potential pandemic and yet, here we are. © Reuters Talking about that, he said, "The warnings that were made through my TED talk and through other experts back in 2015 were largely ignored. A group called CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations) was created that has made some contributions to this pandemic. But you know (that’s) not even 5% of what should have been done." Further talking about another potential pandemic, he said, "There are clear things we need to get started on: better diagnostic tools; surveillance; tonnes of R&D efforts building on the successes that we had during this pandemic. So we won’t be fully ready for the next pandemic for over five years. We have to hope you’re right that we don’t get struck again when we don’t have all these tools in place." © Reuters Coming to the topic of India, when asked about his experience with the country, he said, "In India, there’s so much potential, you see streets teeming with people. You meet really bright people who somehow got through the education system. You don’t see oil or, you know, big mineral-type things, you just see people. The mix of humanity is just mind-blowing and you think okay if we could educate and unleash all this human potential. It’s incredible." He went on, "And then, you know, if you go to the foundation office or Microsoft Office you see people who have had the best Indian education and you see how smart they are and what they’re contributing. And yet you know most of the country doesn’t get that opportunity so you know if you want to see the stark potential of, you know, human capability, and you get a little frustrated that it’s not being tapped in… I always feel that way." © Reuters And finally, he has some advice for young Indian entrepreneurs who want to be like him one day - "Starting out, with that in mind, the chance of success isn’t, you know, super high. It’s great to be ambitious but it’s probably best to pick the area you want to contribute." "Do you want to make better robots than anybody’s ever made or do you want to help people in research topics and helping them organize their time and money and get things done? You know there are frontiers in software. There are frontiers in medicine, there are frontiers in climate change. And so if you define yourself in terms of really caring about one of those things and getting deeply educated, whether or not you get a big company and, you know, lots of money, you’re guaranteed to have fulfilment if you tackle the biggest problems of humanity."
