Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) kick-start the IPL 2022 as they take on last year’s runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 26 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. A bunch of CSK players, including the skipper MS Dhoni, have already begun their preparations for the tournament. Instead of their home venue in Chennai, they have all assembled at Surat’s Lalbhai Contractor Stadium. View this post on Instagram With their opening match less than two weeks away, their preparation is in full swing but all is not rosy for the four-time winners. Their biggest concern of the franchise heading into their new season is that they don’t have any clue about the fitness update of two of their key players Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad. The only update he has is that both the players are currently at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. “We are not aware of their current fitness status and won't be able to tell you when they would join the squad,” Vishwanathan was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. View this post on Instagram He also stated that both the players are under the BCCI’s supervision and they would be intimidated once they clear all the necessary fitness tests. “Obviously, the BCCI has told us that once they are match-fit, they would intimate us. They are at the NCA currently,” he explained. View this post on Instagram Both the players, who had suffered injuries during the white-ball series against the West Indies last month, haven’t joined the CSK pre-tournament camp in Surat and are undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA, which is headed by legendary batter VVS Laxman. Gaikwad, who won the Orange Cap last year, had complained of wrist pain on his right hand last month and was ruled out of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. View this post on Instagram Chahar, who is CSK’s most expensive purchase in auction history, had suffered a quadriceps injury on his right leg and is most likely to be out for at least six to eight weeks, if not more. There were reports which claimed that the medium pacer’s injury was so serious that it could rule him out of the whole tournament. Even if that’s not true, it’s almost certain that he will miss at least half of the matches. View this post on Instagram Missing even one of these two star players would be a major blow to the second most decorated franchise in IPL history and their bid to defend their title successfully. However, the CSK fans would hope that the new signings raise their hand and do the job for them. View the full article

Chennai Super Kings’ opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad continues to climb the ladder of great form after he smashed his maiden IPL century off just 60 deliveries while hitting a massive 108-meter six on the last delivery of the innings. While the fact that Gaikwad played the entire 20 overs and remained unbeaten, is a massive achievement in itself, it was his celebration just after hitting the centurion six, that grabbed a lot of fans’ attention. . pic.twitter.com/umUJNQOVMZ — Bhuwantastic Videos (@BhuwantasticVid) October 2, 2021 As soon as the ball made the connection with the bat, Gaikwad knew that it was going to go over the boundary but it would create the record of the longest six in the IPL 2021 season - he had never thought. A fist pump in the air, a big smile, and the bat raised high above to celebrate the well-deserved ton, everything about the video just shouts “limitless confidence” and it didn’t go unnoticed. 100 with a six for Ruturaj Gaikwad #Ruturajgaikwad #century #CSKvsRR pic.twitter.com/fgltfVdb8D — Diksha:DhoNi (@Diksha_7289) October 2, 2021Ruturaj Gaikwad completed his first Hundred with 108 Meters SIX. #CSKvRR pic.twitter.com/SGGyHgp28g — CricketMAN2 (@man4_cricket) October 2, 2021Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed 108 Meters long six to score his first century in #IPL #RuturajGaikwad #IPL2021 pic.twitter.com/OwKPNPYaW4 — Info Coverage (@infocoverage) October 2, 2021Ruturaj Gaikwad has Longest SIX in #IPL2021 . - 108 Meter. pic.twitter.com/KJOa3KMaLv — CricketMAN2 (@man4_cricket) October 2, 2021In fact, some of the fans even ended up comparing it to the ultimate “badass” moment that Indian javelin thrower and Tokyo Olympic 2020 Gold Medalist, Neeraj had after throwing his last javelin in the final round to secure the medal. Last time I saw this confidence is when Neeraj Chopra threw that javelin pic.twitter.com/02h2TtyXuE — chikoo ➐ (@tweeterrant) October 2, 2021 In the first matches that Gaikwad had played for the CSK, he had managed to put up 5, 5, and 10 runs respectively. However, the team management and head coach Stephen Fleming not only continued to support the young lad’s talent and skillset but were also unafraid of talking about his potential greatness publicly. Ever since the early slump, Gaikwad’s scorecard for the rest of the matches looks like this: 64, 33, 75, 4, 88*, 38, 40, 45, and 101*. Although CSK managed to put up a decent total of 189 runs for Rajasthan Royals to have to chase down, the latter squad made the task look rather effortless. Thanks to some stellar and hard-hitting done by batters Yashasvi Jaiswal (50 off 21) and Shivam Dube (64* off 42), Royals scored 190 runs in just 17.3 overs for the win. At the end of the day, CSK skipper MS Dhoni had to resort to sarcasm while commending the opposing side’s will to win and gave them their props. "250 would've been closer to par, given the way they were going," said Captain Cool in the post-match presentation. View the full article
