Vasiliy Lomachenko, a two-time Olympic gold medallist boxer from Ukraine, has joined the territorial defence battalion in his hometown to help the country in its ongoing war against Russia. Lomachenko has joined the Klitschko brothers from Ukraine, as the boxers have thrown away their boxing gloves and taken guns in their hands to defend their country against the ongoing Russian invasion. Lomachenko posted a picture on his Facebook account in which he can be seen wearing a military uniform with an assault rifle hanging from his shoulder. According to a report by ESPN, the three-time world champion boxer was in Greece when the invasion started but he soon returned home to be with his family. Due to the restrictions in Ukrainian air space, Lomachenko had to take a flight to Bucharest and travelled back home via Romania. The president of the World Boxing Council of Ukraine hailed their boxers as 'champions in the ongoing war'. "We are so proud of our boxers, our real champions in boxing and champions in this war. We are so proud to be Ukrainians," Mykola Kovalchuk, president of WBC Ukraine was quoted as saying by ESPN. The country is looking up to their President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who happens to be leading from the front in defending Ukraine against Russia's invasion. President Zelenskyy's positive approach seems to be rubbing onto the citizens of Ukraine as more and more people from the country are joining their president in the war instead of fleeing to safety. Coming back to Lomachenko's record inside the boxing ring, the 34-year-old had won his first Olympic gold medal in 2008 in the Beijing Games in the featherweight category while his second Olympic gold came in London in 2012 in the lightweight category. © Instagram Vasiliy Lomachenko After turning professional, Lomachenko has featured in 18 matches and won 16 out of which 11 came via knockout. He has lost just two matches since he turned pro. View the full article

Until last week, not many people, even those who follow cricket religiously, didn’t know who Umran Malik was. But ever since he made his IPL debut earlier this week against two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders, his name is on everybody’s lips. This 21-year-old pace sensation made headlines on his debut match as he became the fastest Indian bowler in the ongoing edition of IPL. © Instagram Umran Malik A couple of days later, he bettered his own performance and bowled the fastest delivery of this year’s IPL against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), which left even Virat Kohli mighty impressed. However, apart from his pace, there’s one more thing that has made him the centre of almost every cricketing discussion -- his bowling action which many believe resembles that of legendary Pakistani bowler Waqar Younis. Jammu and Kashmir Fast bowler Umran Malik run-up, his action, everything resembles a bit of Waqar Younis's style. #Cricket pic.twitter.com/wpT2ciIKDV — Tayyab Khan (@Tayipkhan93) October 7, 2021 The more you look at Malik running in and delivering the ball, the more you realise how similar his bowling action is to that of former Pakistan pacer. The build-up, the run-up, the jump, the landing foot, the release, Malik’s bowling action from start to finish has an uncanny resemblance to Younis. © Instagram Indian Premier League Like Younis, Malik also bowls with express pace and it has made the fans excited because in India watching a fast bowler breach the 150 kmph mark on a consistent basis is a rare sight that we don’t see very often. Too early to say but has India found its Waqar Younis in Umran Malik?Need to nurture this youngster really well. #UmranMalik #waqaryounis #IPL2021 #RCBvsSRH — Aditya Saroha (@AdityaSaroha13) October 6, 2021Umran Malik's bowling action makes me remind so much of Waqar younis, so much similar and brut pace #RCBvsSRH — DIPTENDU CHAKRABORTY (@DiptenduC) October 6, 2021@BCCI needs to groom Umran Malik. He bowls absolute rockets!!! Raw pace and rightly pointed by @SteelyDan66, the action reminds you a lot of Waqar Younis. #RCBvsSRH #IPL2O21 — Yash Pathak (@imyashpathak) October 6, 2021India is becoming a land of fast bowlers. What a sight to see #UmranMalik run in and bowl 150kmph. almost has a waqar younis like action. #IPL2021 @BCCI @IPL Need to nurture and protect them so they can play for many years. — Dr.Nitin Yashas (@drnitinyashas) October 6, 2021It's great to see a young boy who Is so fast having an action similar to the great waqar Younis...but filling his shoes needs so much work on....#UmranMalik #IPL2021 — dask (@proudindianizme) October 6, 2021The pitches in the United Arab Emirates have been on the slower side, and looking at the surface most fast bowlers have relied on their change of pace, cutters, and slower bouncers to deceive the batters. © Twitter IPL The easier way for him would have been to follow the same trend and bowl slower deliveries that brought most bowlers success. Instead of becoming a part of the herd, Malik has relied on his strength and troubled the batters with his speed. His bowling has been like a breath of fresh on these dull pitches. The fact that he had played only two professional matches, that too earlier this year, prior to his IPL debut, speaks volumes of what a gifted player he is. But talent alone is not enough to succeed at the highest level. © Twitter IPL Even fans know that bowling fast will not help him go far in his career, for that he’ll have to work hard on his fitness, acquire new skills, and keep himself injury-free. Now that he has got everybody’s attention, the onus is now on the BCCI and the National Cricket Academy to nurture him for the future. View the full article

Football referees are serious business. During the game, if you manage to get a look at their faces, you'd realise that they are even more dialed in than the players and are looking for the minutest of problems to blow that whistle. But in a first, this referee turned out to be the most hilarious and chat-worthy part about a football game. Why? Well, because she showed legendary Brazilian player Kaka a yellow card just so that she could get her phone out and grab a quick selfie with the man. During a charity match for peace in Israel, the former AC Milan and Real Madrid veteran scored with an amazing kick in the 44th minute to help his side of Bralizian legends take a 3-2 lead in the first half. It is at this point that the female referee blew the whistle, got her yellow card out in front of Kaka and brought the game to a standstill. The 2007 Ballon d'Or winner stood there perplexed as to what had happened when the official ran up to him and asked for a selfie, and the 37-year-old couldn't say no. While some of the other big names of the football world also took part in the game with the Brazilian roster boasting names like Ronaldinho, Roberto Carlos, Rivaldo, Cafu and Bebeto, it was evident that Kaka was the star showstopper and the crowd had rushed to the stadium just to get a glimpse of the AC Milan Hall of Famer playing the way he once used to. Given the whole vibe of the charity peace game, the rest of the Brazilian players, who can get pretty riled up about co-curricular activities during a game, also went up to the referee and shook hands with her. One can't help but imagine what would happen if one of the Premier League referees tried to pull a stunt like that? View the full article

From Covfefe to Hollyweed: Weird news grabs headlines in 2017
ADMIN posted a blog entry in Geo News Blog
NEW YORK: President Donald Trump's Oval Office style dominated US headlines in 2017, but readers were particularly perplexed by his use of the word "covfefe," in what turned out to be one of the oddest news stories of the year. A tweet by Trump in May read simply: "Despite the constant negative press covfefe". White House officials batted away questions about what the word meant and even the dictionary company Merriam-Webster drew a blank. Trump left it up to the reader to divine his meaning, with a follow-up: ?Who can figure out the true meaning of ?covfefe? ??? Enjoy!? But he was not alone in leaving readers scratching their heads. Even outside Washington, the year produced a spate of weird news, including odd pranks and poorly considered crimes. Los Angeles residents awoke on New Year?s Day to find the four-story white letters of the world-famous ?Hollywood? sign had been altered to read: ?Hollyweed.? The prank came just two months after California voters approved the recreational use of marijuana despite a federal ban. Hollywood sign changed to ?Hollyweed?. PHOTO: REUTERS Austin, Texas, police were tipped off to an illegal brothel when hundreds of condoms clogged a city sewer pipe in March. The blockage at Jade Massage Therapy was the smoking gun that led to the arrest of two people for prostitution and money laundering. US Customs and Border Protection agents were spared a spine-chilling surprise when a California man was arrested in July for trying to smuggle three highly poisonous king cobra snakes hidden in potato chip canisters. Crooks had planned the latest haul of snakes in a can after all 20 king cobras in a previous shipment died in transit, authorities said. A king cobra snake seen in a container of chips in this udated handout photo obtained July 25, 2017. PHOTO: REUTERS2 Back in the political arena, an octogenarian ex-con New Jersey politician revived her burlesque act at a May fundraiser ? although she kept her clothes on. Former Jersey City Deputy Mayor Leona Beldini, who is in her early 80s and danced as ?Hope Diamond,? performed in a gown and feather boa to raise cash for a non-profit dance company, three years after being released from prison following a bribery conviction. Animal stories also captured the public?s attention. Millions watched via webcam as April, a giraffe, gave birth to a 6-foot-tall (1.83-meter) male calf. From around the globe, her fans watched her endure the conclusion of a 16-month pregnancy at Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York ? in April, of course. Months earlier, a small moth with a yellowish-white coif of scales was named for then-President-elect Trump, who wears a similar hairstyle, researchers told the scientific journal ZooKeys. The new species of insect, Neopalpa donaldtrumpi, is native to Southern California and Mexico?s Baja California and is likely capable of flying over the proposed border wall with Mexico that was a central promise of Trump?s presidential campaign. -
