On Sunday afternoon, two student factions clashed against each other on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus in Delhi. According to reports, the conflict allegedly arose over an issue of meat being served in the hostel canteen during Ram Navami. The incident took place at Kaveri hostel at 3:30 in the afternoon, with 6 students so far reported to be injured in the clashes. © Twitter According to the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU), members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) assaulted the mess secretary and tried to deter the staff from serving non-vegetarian food in the hostel. Responding with their own version of events, the ABVP, the student wing of the BJP's ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, claims the conflict occurred when members of the Left-aligned student faction tried to stop Pooja proceedings from being organized in the hostel. Accusations of pelting stones and injuries to their members have been alleged by both sides. According to the police that had been summoned to the campus, the violence that had arisen has now subsided. In his quote to the PTI, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Manoj C said, "There is no violence as of now. A protest was held which is over. We are all positioned here with our team. On the request of the university, we have come here. We are trying to maintain peace," © Twitter There still are protests happening in the vicinity of the campus albeit in a smaller capacity. A student of the prestigious institution also hints that the blame falls squarely at the ABVP’s feet. Speaking to ANI, JNU Student Sarika said, "In the afternoon today, a message went viral on social media that ABVP members are not allowing non-veg food inside the campus. The mess usually prepares non-veg food items on weekends. However, ABVP members did not let this food to be prepared.” The JNUSU has also claimed that the ABVP implemented "muscle power and goondaism" to create a ruckus within the campus. Regarding the same, the student body alleged in a statement, "They were forcing and attacking the mess committee to change the dinner menu and exclude the usual non-vegetarian items in it for all students." It further added, “JNU and its hostels are meant to be inclusive spaces for all and not one particular section.” These allegations by the JNUSU have been refuted by the ABVP outrightly. In their response, they said, "Some common students had organised a pooja and havan programme on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami at 3:30 PM at Kaveri hostel.” They continued, “This pooja was joined by a large number of common students of JNU. The Leftists came to object, obstruct and prevent the pooja from happening. They have created a false ruckus on the issue of 'Right to Food' (Non-Vegetarian Food)," Meanwhile, JNU has issued a statement in the case: JNU issues statement accepting that few ‘students’ tried to create problems in Hawan. pic.twitter.com/8Mj6BWgDRq — अंकित जैन (@indiantweeter) April 11, 2022 Such events with their tendency to polarise people have naturally created a furore on Twitter, with people taking sides as to who’s to blame for this fresh incident of violence. The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly found himself in hot water after it emerged that he had forcefully attended several selection committee meetings. Since then the fans have been berating the former India skipper for misusing his power as the BCCI president to undermine various stakeholders. © Reuters Ever since this issue has surfaced, angry fans have been using some strong words against the ‘Prince of Kolkata’. Some even alleged that Ganguly’s dictatorial attitude was the reason why Virat Kohli had a fallout with him and he decided to step down from Team India’s captaincy. BCCI Divided Into Two FactionsGanguly is yet to respond to these fresh sets of allegations but according to reports not all is rosy within the Indian cricket board. This matter has created a divide among the BCCI officials. According to a report published in InsideSport, the BCCI is divided into two factions. While one set has described these reports as “utter nonsense”, the other group has confirmed that not just selection meetings, Ganguly had been doing a lot of things forcefully on various fronts. The same official further alleged that this issue might have come into the public limelight now but it had been going on for a very long time, which was “extremely unfortunate”. © Reuters “This is utter nonsense & completely false,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by InsideSport. “He has been doing things forcefully on various accounts. This is how BCCI is being run nowadays. Ganguly doesn’t have any business to attend selection meetings. Extremely unfortunate this is,” said another BCCI official. What’s the whole issue? This issue came to light after a senior sports journalist put out a tweet alleging that a “BCCI official” had been forcefully inviting himself to the selection meetings and undermining the role of captain, coach and the national selectors. For quite some time, a BCCI official kept inviting himself to selection committee meetings even when he knew he should have stayed away. Captain and coach were helpless. Couldn't do anything. He had no business being there. I hope such instances are not repeated in the future. — KSR (@KShriniwasRao) January 26, 2022 Initially, he had to face a lot of criticism with people accusing him of spreading lies. But his claim was corroborated when a video of another journalist went viral where he was heard questioning Ganguly for misusing his power as the BCCI chief. What's Ganguly's role in selection meeting? This is clearly against BCCI's constitution. pic.twitter.com/9rjjoLNESq — Shivam Aks (@AksShivam) January 31, 2022 In that viral clipping, two journalists were seen discussing how Ganguly’s unlawful actions might have undermined the role of Kohli, Shastri and the chief selector Chetan Sharma. The BCC is divided but so far Ganguly has kept mum on this whole controversy and with the IPL 2022 mega auction just over a week away, he wouldn’t want to fuel this issue. View the full article

As the International Cricket Council announced the groups for the T20 World Cup on Friday, the biggest talking point was India and Pakistan being pooled in the same group. Indian cricket fans started celebrating soon and it was pretty much expected, given the rivalry between the two countries. 🤩 Some mouth-watering match-ups in the Super 12 stage of the ICC Men's #T20WorldCup 2021 Which clash are you most looking forward to? https://t.co/Z87ksC0dPk pic.twitter.com/7aLdpZYMtJ — T20 World Cup (@T20WorldCup) July 16, 2021 What was not expected, however, was the fact that besides the T20 World Cup, people started talking about the Asia Cup and soon it became a trending keyword on the micro-blogging site. Analyse the two groups carefully and you will understand the reason why people were all of a sudden interested in the Asia Cup -- which as the name suggests is a multi-nation event featuring only the Asian teams. © Twitter While announcing the group, the ICC pooled three Asian countries India, Pakistan and Afghanistan in Group 2. But how does the Asia Cup come into the picture, you ask? We all know that this year’s tournament will be played in two rounds -- Round 1 and Super 12. The Round 1, which is sort of a qualifying round for the main event, will feature two Asian teams Sri Lanka and Bangladesh competing in different groups. The Men's #T20WorldCup 2021 groups are out The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super 12. Who are your picks? https://t.co/T9510AGiDS pic.twitter.com/GoJ2QcctXE — T20 World Cup (@T20WorldCup) July 16, 2021 Apart from the eight countries which have earned automatic qualification, four teams from the qualifying Round 1 will reach the Super 12 stage. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are placed in Group A and B respectively and there is a possibility that both teams might end up in Group 2, which already has three other Asian countries India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. © Reuters Placed alongside Scotland, Papua New Guinea and Oman, Bangladesh are expected to win their Group B and looking at Sri Lanka’s current form and Ireland’s recent heroics against South Africa in a 50-over game, there is every chance that they might end up as the runners-up. There are so many catches to it but if it goes this way, we’ll be watching a mini Asia Cup within the T20 World Cup. © Reuters The 2021 Asia Cup was postponed after India reached the World Test Championship final and there was no other window left to conduct the tournament. But now that we might see it happening, albeit unintentionally, fans sarcastically praised the world body for accommodating both the tournaments in one event. Some suggested that the winner of Group 2 should be crowned the Asian champions, while others felt cheated because they prepared for a world event but got a mini Asia Cup instead. If Bangladesh finishes on top in Group B and Sri Lanka second in Group A, Group 2 in Super 12 will be an Asia Cup with NZ also participating. https://t.co/0bmRtfny94 — Deepu Narayanan (@deeputalks) July 16, 2021Asia cup latest version is here ...#T20worldcup pic.twitter.com/6md5UDWBJ9 — Raunit Ranjan (@RaunitRanjan2) July 16, 2021Nice of ICC to even organise an Asia Cup within the WT20. — Clive (@_vanillawallah) July 16, 2021ICC has decided to conduct a Mini Asia Cup in Group 2 during the T20 World Cup. — Sameer Allana (@HitmanCricket) July 16, 2021Clever stuff from ICC It is mini Asia Cup in T20 World Cup Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, NZ in same group Winner of Group B to join them: Bangladesh expected Runner-up of Group A: Sri Lanka & Ireland in Group A — Zaid Hassan (@zaidhassan89) July 16, 2021never knew NZ played Asia Cup pic.twitter.com/gFiLmKWZRf — bowl fast (@backfoot_punch) July 16, 2021India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka are probably in the same group of WT20. 30 illegal motorcycle race groups operational in Karachi: report

Fuelled by the ongoing debate over privacy on messaging apps like WhatsApp, terrorist groups and their handlers from Pakistan are switching to new messaging apps according to a report by PTI. The report says the terrorist groups are switching to a new application developed by a Turkish company, according to officials. © unsplash/image for representation only The three new applications were discovered after encounters with terrorists or from those who surrendered before the Army. The terrorists gave details about their mode of radicalisation by Pakistan-based terrorist groups. The names of the applications were withheld citing national security reasons. The two other applications in question are owned by companies based in the United States and Europe. However, the major concern is the latest application developed by a Turkish company which has now become the preferred application used by Terrorist groups and their handlers. The app was used to scout prospective recruits in the Kashmir valley according to the report. © Unsplash The reason why this application is of most concern is that it can be used with the slower internet connections i.e. 2G/EDGE. The app does not ask for a phone number or email for complete anonymity which can be concerning in tracking known terrorists. The application also does all encryption and decryption on the device level which means it reduces the chance of third party intervention from security agencies. The app uses the encryption algorithm RSA-2048 which is considered as the most secure encrypted platform. Since the abrogation of special status in Jammu and Kashmir, 2G Internet services were restored last year which means this particular application can be used to communicate amongst terrorists in the region. Efforts are being made to block such applications in Jammu and Kashmir, a security officials said. © Reuters Security agencies in the valley are also fighting the current menace of virtual SIM cards. It is being used by terrorist groups in the valley to connect with their handlers in Pakistan. This was discovered when a request was sent to the United States virtual SIM service providers asking more details by a Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide bomber which was later used in the CRPF convoy in Pulwama.
