  4. At a time, when the cricket fraternity was just coming to terms with the sudden demise of Dean Jones, another shocking news appears to have rattled everyone associated with the gentleman's game. The younger brother of former South African cricketer Vernon Philander has been shot dead a few metres away from his home in Ravensmead, Cape Town. According to media reports, Philander's brother Tyrone was delivering a trolley with water to a neighbour when he was shot. As per an African News Agency (ANA) reporter, Tyrone's mother Bonita, accompanied by a family member, watched in horror as her 32-year-old son's body lay in the street. The reports further suggest that the assailants are still at large. View the full article
  5. Ever since 2004, the Saw series has been synonymous with torture-porn, grisly moral experiments and bringing R-Rated, no-holds barred violence back in vogue for horror fans across the globe. The series has gone on to become one of the genre's most successful franchises of all time. Off a collective budget of $77 million, the films have gone on to rake in nearly $1 billion at the box office, adjusted for inflation. That's not to say that things didn't go stale - after Saw 3D released in 2010, the series suffered a 7-year gap before Jigsaw, a reboot of sorts, which appealed primarily to longtime fans. With the 9th film, titled The Organ Donor under works, this begs the question - after 8 films, what does it take to make the series interesting again? According to comedian Chris Rock, the answer might be comedy. Speaking to IGN, Rock was quoted saying, “A lot of times I go to a movie or I watch a TV show and I go: 'Wow, you know, two jokes would have made a big difference in that.' I love Saw, but I was like: 'Wow, it has almost no humor at all”. There's a point to be made there. The series has always been clear and upfront about its intentions to revolt and simultaneously fascinate its audience with its elaborately designed death-traps, yet its characters seem to do little other than what is expected of them. Rock took this idea quite seriously, and penned down a story idea which he then pitched to Lionsgate Films. The studio approved of it immediately - “Completely reverential to the legacy of the material while reinvigorating the brand with his wit, creative vision and passion for this classic horror franchise,” commented Lionsgate CEO Joe Drake. That sounds good, doesn't it? It still pales in comparison to what the studio did next - in a move that no one saw coming, they managed to bring in someone we never expected to be part of the franchise - Samuel L. Jackson himself. The veteran actor is famous for portraying fearless badasses on screen - the kind of character the series was desperately missing, and which may pair well alongside Rock's comedic intentions. Rock will reportedly star as a police officer on the trail of a potentially new killer, with Samuel L. Jackson appearing as his father. While some longtime fans might be doubtful of jokes making it into an otherwise serious franchise, Rock suggests that on the edit table, things are still very much as Jigsaw would have it. “The new Saw, I've seen like a rough cut,” shared Rock. “It's still Saw… it's bloody, it's gory, but there's like a sprinkling of humor here and there. We're not revamping it, it's not Scary Movie, it's Saw.” Whatever happens, there will be blood. The film makes its way into cinemas on May 15, 2020. View the full article
  6. While the career of an athlete looks splendid with multiple multi-million-dollar deals coming from giants like Nike and Adidas every year and various clubs going out of their way to offer expensive contracts to entice them to play in their uniform. Expensive cars, big bungalows, world tours, a successful professional sportsperson has it all. But unfathomable things can also happen in a sportsman's life that can take all that away in a second and bring a wave of unnerving terror along with them. Here below are 4 of the worst and most gruesome injuries to ever happen to an athlete: Disclaimer: videos listed below contain graphic content 1. Clint Malarchuk's Throat Sliced By Ice Hockey Blades If you search for Clint Malarchuk's name on the internet, the first 50 pages will only talk about what is considered to be the most horrific injury suffered by an ice hockey player ever. In 1989, in a game between St. Louis Blues and Buffalo Sabres, the right side of the throat of goalie Clint Malarchuk was accidentally sliced open by Steve Tuttle's skate blade. As the white ice ring turned red with the player's blood, he walked out on his legs as he didn't want his mother to watch him die, as reported by the player himself. #icehockey #goaltender #clintmalarchuk #neardeathexperience A post shared by PametnaInteligentaSpretnaBica (@pametnainteligentnaspretnabica) on May 28, 2018 at 9:49am PDT It took around 300 stitches and a series of PTSD sessions for Malarchuk to get over the incident. 2. Peter Biaksangzuala's Neck-Breaking Celebration After A Goal 23-year-old Peter Biaksangzuala from Mizoram, was an extremely talented footballer “who dreamt of playing in the national league," said Lalnghinglova Hmar, the Mizoram Football Association's (MFA) secretary. In a match between Bethlehem Vengthland and Chanmari West, Biaksangzuala scored a brilliant goal on a volley without giving even a second to the opposing keeper to react. Sadly, the young star let excitement get the better of him as he tried to celebrate with a somersault. Unable to complete the turn, Peter landed awkwardly on his neck while breaking it. Unfortunately, Peter was not as lucky as Clint Malarchuk and succumbed to his injuries a week later at the Aizawl Civil Hospital. 3. Phillip Hughes' Head Hit By A Bouncer Probably the most infamous incident on the list, Phillip Hughes' ill-fated injury was covered and mourned over by the entire world. On 25th November 2014, even though he was wearing a helmet, Phil Hughes suffered a blow just under his left ear which was unprotected. After visibly being shaken for a couple of seconds, Hughes collapsed on the pitch before being rushed to the hospital. After being placed under induced coma, Hughes died three days later on 27th December 2014, just three days before his 26th birthday. 4. Salim Sdiri's Punctured Liver And Kidney By A Javelin During the 2007 IAAF Golden League at Rome's Olimpico Stadium, javelin thrower Tero Kristian Pitkämäki, while warming up before the contest, accidentally slipped while throwing. As a result, the projectile went out of the field and right in the scapula of France's Salim Sdiri, puncturing his liver and right kidney. Luckily, the injuries weren't fatal and Sdiri made a successful return to the field in 2008 and was even selected for the 2009 World Championships in Berlin.

Twitter/The Grand Tour Hammond managed to climb out of the wreckage himself and he appeared to be just fine. A statement was issued by the Grand Tour which reads as follows: “Richard Hammond was involved in a serious crash after completing the Hemburg Hill Climb in Switzerland in a Rimac Concept One, an electric supercar built in Croatia, during filming for The Grand Tour Season 2 on Amazon Prime, but very fortunately suffered no serious injury. The cause of the crash is unknown and is being investigated.” Even Jeremy Clarkson, co-host of the show, tweeted to reassure fans: It was the biggest crash I've ever seen and the most frightening but incredibly, and thankfully, Richard seems to be mostly OK. — Jeremy Clarkson (@JeremyClarkson) June 10, 2017 He was airlifted to a nearby hospital immediately after the crash just to make sure he was alright. There he was treated for a fractured knee. Twitter/Tony Shepherd Here’s footage of the car losing control as he attempts a turn on a road which had been closed for the Bergrennen Hemberg Race:
  9. Yesterday, we released a story—a first-person, eye-witness account of the gruesome killing of a woman at MG Road Metro Station, Gurgaon. In the account, our anonymous source revealed bone-chilling details of the incident, just as he saw them unfold. A lot of our readers, who read the story, left their opinions and reactions to the same. Every single one of us is agitated by this incident and every single one of us aired our opinions on how the crowd just looked on and did nothing to help the woman who was being stabbed mercilessly by a boy who can only be described as psychotic. This morning, I got my hands on a video taken of the CCTV footage from the MG Road Metro Station, Gurgaon, that fateful morning. Bringing myself to watch the video was a task, I’ll be honest. Narrating the witness’ account had gotten to me enough. But, I knew it had to be watched to be able to tell what exactly had been the state at the scene of crime. Before I go any further to tell you more about the video, I want you to watch it for yourself. Yes, it will take all the nerve you can muster up because this really isn’t something you want to watch on a Friday—or any given day, for that matter. But, you must; just like I did. Because we owe it to ourselves, as human beings and then, as citizens of this country, to be informed about the brutality of one maniac’s vengefulness and the helplessness of a crowd that could not have done much, even if they wanted to. Here’s the link to the video: After watching, what remains clear is that there was really no stopping this animal. The people DID try; and they tried ALL they could in THEIR capacity. But, they cannot be blamed for what happened to the woman, or the fact that the attacker never stopped, for a very simple reason. When you wake up on a Monday morning, ready to get back to work after a relaxing weekend, the last thing you expect to be caught up in is being witness to someone being killed AND being so helpless about the whole situation. It’s easy to sit behind a computer screen, in the confines of your home or workplace and lash out on the internet about how the people could have done something; about how our witness could have done more than click pictures and share the account with the media. It’s as easy as choosing not to watch this video because it’s too gruesome for you, even though most of us wouldn’t mind watching such violence and more on television and video games. Yes, it’s THAT easy. But, we need to stop taking the easy way out and start asking the right questions. Where were the police? Why were they unable to reach the scene of crime at all? Why did the sole CISF official just stand and look on? Why was this maniac able to carry a knife onto a public transport in broad daylight so easily without being detected? Why was nothing serious done about the fact that this auto-driver had been stalking her for the past few months? And… Why are we, as the public, subject to such helplessness? Yes, this entire incident could have been avoided… If the police actually did their job the way they are supposed to. P.S.: I’m sorry you had to see this. But, I’m also sorry that you absolutely HAD TO see this.
