  1. The official website of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was hacked and the content was replaced with some pretty weird stuff. The bizarre development spread like wildfire, and pretty soon everyone was talking about it. Turns out, the content on the website was replaced with the video of muppets singing Bohemian Rhapsody, the iconic song by Queen and memes on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. BJP can't prevent their own website from getting hacked and are governing a nation of '6 billion' people. #NamumkinAbMumkinHai pic.twitter.com/uQDLgJC9s2 — Supariman™ (@SupariMan_) March 5, 2019 Apt Message in @BJP4India Website..Worth to watch. If BJP cant protect their website how can they protect conman man. pic.twitter.com/yOGblMFcQk — Kashyap Nandan (@kashyapnandan_) March 5, 2019 Government promise to keep secure our Aadhaar data but failed to secure their own website. #BJPWebsiteHacked #datasecurity https://t.co/4S5vflzk2Y — Literally no-one (@shuklazy) March 5, 2019 BJP website is hacked BUT No one can hack EVM — Rakesh Kumar Singh (@Rakeshjeeinc) March 5, 2019 The website had to be taken offline for maintainace and so far, no one has taken responsibility for what happened. The party and its members have not issued any official statement yet, but it sure is a matter of concern that the official website of the ruling party of the nation can fall prey to hackers.
  2. The official websites of Pakistan's Foreign Ministry and the Army were hacked on Saturday night, making them inaccessible for users outside the country. Later, several other websites were hacked and defaced. The hackers left behind a message stating "We will never forget #14/02/2019". © Reuters According to the report in Pakistan's Dawn, the government websites were working fine within the country, but users from other countries were unable to access them. Ministry spokesperson Muhammad Faisal said, "The website is functioning without any issues in Pakistan. However, visitors to the website from Holland, Australia, Britain, and Saudi Arabia are facing difficulty opening it." © Reuters Several media reports say a list of the hacked websites is being circulated on WhatsApp and other social media platforms claiming that "Pakistan has faced it's worst cyber attack in history, in last 72 hours". A lot of these websites have been brought back to normal now. "The IT team is currently occupied in thwarting the hackers onslaught," Faisal added. The list of Pakistani websites hacked include: https://sindhforests.gov.pk/op.html https://mail.sindhforests.gov.pk/op.html https://pkha.gov.pk/op.html https://ebidding.pkha.gov.pk/op.html https://mail.pkha.gov.pk/op.html http://kda.gkp.pk/op.html http://blog.kda.gkp.pk/op.html http://mail.kda.gkp.pk/op.html https://kpsports.gov.pk/op.html https://mail.kpsports.gov.pk/op.html http://seismic.pmd.gov.pk/op.html http://namc.pmd.gov.pk/op.html http://rmcpunjab.pmd.gov.pk/FlightsChartFolder/op.html http://ffd.pmd.gov.pk/modis/op.html https://badin.opf.edu.pk/14-02-2019.php http://radar.pmd.gov.pk/islamabad/op.html Read more at: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/68042727.cms?utm_source=contentofinterest&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=cppst Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs website was accessible in India, but an attempt to open the Pakistan Army website showed the following message: "The owner of this website has banned the country or region your IP address is in (IN) from accessing this website." © BCCL Pakistan believes the hackers are of Indian origin because defaced websites referred to the recent Pulwama attack. These cyber attacks by Indian ethical hackers come after over 40 CRPF personnel were killed on 14th February 2019 in one of the deadliest terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Previously, fingers were pointed to India-based hackers when the official website of PPP was found defaced in June 2017. © BCCL Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility for the attack, and the group is known to be shielded by the Pakistani administration. The Indian government has slammed Pakistan over its terror links, but the neighbouring country has denied charges. Over 50 countries have condemned the barbaric attack and expressed support to India in its fight against terrorism. Immediately after the attack, India withdrew the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status, which was accorded to Pakistan in 1996.
  3. Most of our politicians from all major parties are on Twitter now, and honestly, social media has become such a big platform for campaigns with parties directly trolling each other, and it has personally given me a lot of second-hand embarrassment. And since Twitter has become the biggest way for the government to spread their agenda, someone figured out a way to literally control the tweets on Union Ministers' account, and it doesn't even look that hard, tbh. Pratik Sinha, the co-founder of Alt News, made a Twitter thread about how a Google Doc circulated by the BJP's IT cell which contained all the quotes and tweets which are then posted by all the ministers was somehow changed. Basically, someone hacked in and messed with the text which resulted in a bunch of tweets criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the tweets came from BJP itself. Yep, it's one of the greatest pranks of all time. How do you get a Union Minister to tweet what you want? Well, you go and edit the trending document made by BJP IT cell, and then you control what they tweet. Thread. Here's the video of this morning when their trending document got automagically updated :-) 1/n pic.twitter.com/6DLwDPg2CV — Pratik Sinha (@free_thinker) February 13, 2019 Ooh, that's brutal. And then you can get a Union Minister to tweet that "working for the middle class is low on the agenda of Modi Govt" CC @PonnaarrBJP 2/n pic.twitter.com/79WH2r73C5 — Pratik Sinha (@free_thinker) February 13, 2019 This seems too easy to be true, tbh. You can get a BJP state unit and a Union Minister to tweet that "Modi govt has not made inclusive development as the focal point" cc @PonnaarrBJP @BJP4Assam 3/n pic.twitter.com/1k1FgMiYoo — Pratik Sinha (@free_thinker) February 13, 2019 Seriously though, does no one read before tweeting? Even if they are just copy pasting? You can get all IT cell coolies to tweet that Modi govt has destroyed all villages in India. Or that Modi Govt has made women a slave of "धà¥à¤à¤"/cooking" cc @BJP4Assam 4/n pic.twitter.com/uk3xVWtNCP — Pratik Sinha (@free_thinker) February 13, 2019 And, it's not just funny, but also very important. For eg, in the past, @PonnaarrBJP tweeted that bringing 'down' approval time "600 to 1800" is an improvement. No one noticed this. Because they didn't know that they were tweeting from an edited document even back then. 6/n pic.twitter.com/lnSFv3RjX6 — Pratik Sinha (@free_thinker) February 13, 2019 Always keep the receipts. Union Minister @PonnaarrBJP is now busy deleting tweets, but we got screenshots :-) And archives :-) https://t.co/MDcg8CrMq5 pic.twitter.com/Ze6ud2ho89 — Pratik Sinha (@free_thinker) February 13, 2019 Wow, just wow. Yes, this also happened ;-) "Dishonesty and lack of transparency is..." pic.twitter.com/FlJaDBVEVJ — Pratik Sinha (@free_thinker) February 13, 2019 The best kind of promotion? Once, we also made them recommend that people should start reading Alt News. pic.twitter.com/JnXqB1Z1sF — Pratik Sinha (@free_thinker) February 13, 2019 I honestly just have one word for this - brilliant. But, it's also kind of scary how easily misinformation can be spread, how easy it is to hack and control an entire Twitter campaign. Hope this serves as a wake-up call for better security around these Google Docs, though I really doubt it's going to make any difference.
