  1. Thereâs really no need to write an introduction to the man. Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin, who would have turned 131 years old today, has been a worldwide icon of cinema for well over a century at this point. © Charles Chaplin Productions Perhaps the best way to illustrate the manâs sheer tenacity and spirit of dedication to the art of comedic cinema can be seen in this three-minute scene from 1928âs The Circus. Not only did the man direct, produce, write and act in this film, this single scene is absolutely the real deal - no special effects shenanigans here folks. If all of this wasnât enough, the man reportedly took over 200 takes to get this one right. © Charlie Chaplin Film Corporation Itâs not surprising then, that his fame and reputation found its way into the minds and hearts of Bollywoodâs best and brightest. Here are 6 homages to Chaplin from some of Indiaâs best actors - from the 1950s well into the 2000s: 1. Raj Kapoor, Shree 420 (1955) Film historians and movie buffs alike have spoken of the legendary actor as the âCharlie Chaplin of Indian cinema,â and it wasnât just owing to the striking resemblance of both actors at times. Kapoor himself was an ardent admirer of the man, and while heâs played Chaplin-esque roles in Mera Naam Joker and Aawara, nothing quite nailed the innocent yet mischievous âTrampâ character quite as his performance in Shree 420 did. 2. Mehmood, Aulaad (1968) This multi-talented comedian played a wide variety of roles - usually, street-smart sidekicks who had plenty of charm and comedic timing to uplift the scenes he was part of. In this late â60s drama, Mehmood played a comedic foil to the name of Chamanlal âCharlieâ Singaporie - a pretty overt homage to one of his comedic inspirations. 3. Chiranjeevi, Chantabbai (1986) This film marked a massive turning point in Chiranjeeviâs career and perhaps even Telugu cinema as a whole. While casting a first-rate action hero as a bumbling, hilarious buffoon seemed to be career suicide, Chiranjeevi took to the role with such dedication and commitment that the film released to massive critical acclaim and remains a cult classic even today. 4. Kamal Hassan, Punnagai Mannan (1986) Also remembered as one of A.R. Rehmanâs earliest contributions to playback music (he played guitar and keys for the soundtrack), this late â80s romantic drama was a pretty serious film, yet also had a fantastic Chaplin throwback. Hassan did such a good job here, that the film was eventually redubbed into Hindi in the â90s as Chacha Charlie. 5. Sridevi, Mr. India (1987) Who said guys should have all the fun? Perhaps the most well-remembered Chaplin-inspired performance for any â80s kids out there would be Srideviâs charming take on the comedian in Mr. India. So memorable, that for many reviewers her incredible performance outshone even Anil Kapoor and Amrish Puriâs âMogamboâ. 6. Ranbir Kapoor, Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani (2009) Guess it runs in the family. A whole 54 years after his grandfather introduced the Chaplin homage to Bollywood, Ranbir Kapoor pulled off the same trick to great effect in this 2009 romcom alongside Katrina Kaif. The scene is a great love letter to slapstick comedy from cinemaâs golden age - featuring Ranbirâs slick and witty comedic delivery, an eloping couple and, of course, an over-the-top action scene involving motorcycles and sidecars - canât get more classic than that. Whatâs your favourite performance out of these? Share them with us in the comments! View the full article
  2. Bollywood is known for dishing out many memorable scenes, dialogues and characters that stick around years after the filmâs release. While the good is difficult to let go of, the bad isnât any easier to get over either. Over the years, most movie-lovers come to fall for on-screen characters, but what happens when one of those characters is killed off, much to our dismay? We know, the shock is paramount, the anger is worse and the feeling of betrayal is next level. Thatâs why we decided to vent our accumulated angst and curate a list of 10 such on-screen deaths in Bollywood movies that we havenât been able to get over even today: 1. Shaalu Gupta - Masaan © Phantom Films It really felt unjust to watch this smiling face fade into nothingness after the tragic road accident hits her. This death didnât only shatter Deepak and break apart a love story that deserved to live long and old, but also hit us hard. 2. Rahul Jaykar - Aashiqui 2 © T-Series Most of us failed to understand why Rahul couldnât fight harder and defeat his addiction for his own good, and for a real chance at the love he truly deserved. His end was definitely heartbreaking to watch. 3. Amarendra Baahubali - Baahubali © Arka Media Works âKattappa ne Baahubali ko kyun maara?â became a recurring question. But no one can deny that it was utterly heart-breaking witnessing the kind and winsome prince happily put his life on the line and still perform his duty as a true son until his dying breath. *Sobs in the corner* 4. Dr Preet Sahni - Udta Punjab © Balaji Motion Pictures Okay, very honestly, we hadnât seen this coming. Having done a good job at getting to the root of Punjabâs drug problem with Sartaj, and building a bond that was filled with hope, we were honestly expecting a better tomorrow for the couple. But of course, the director felt otherwise. 5. Mahabir - Highway © Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Stockholm Syndrome or not, you have to admit there was some zing to Veera and Mahabirâs relationship from the very beginning. And just when it appeared both of them had finally escaped their troubled past and found a safe haven, boom! Imtiaz decides to kill the guy. 6. Neerja - Neerja © Fox Star Studios Based on the real-life story of air-hostess Neerja Bhanotâs tragic death during a terrorist flight hijacking in Lahore, Neerjaâs display of bravery and selfless service won hearts. Her sacrifice saved so many lives at the cost of her own, and that left an indelible mark on the audienceâs hearts. 7. Aarav - Humari Adhuri Kahani © Vishesh Films Okay, this wasnât meant to hurt so bad, but it did. Aaravâs character in the film was so beautifully crafted that you couldnât help but grow a soft spot for the guy. But it is his idea of selfless love that really makes you fond of him, until he is wrongfully taken away from everyone. Mohit Suri, weâre looking at you RN. 8. Kalpana - Ghajini © Geetha Arts It is never easy to imagine such a terrible ending for characters who bring much life into the frames. Kalpana was one such chirpy, loud-mouth character who didnât deserve to die the way she did. We really felt Sanjayâs pain when he discovered her hammered body. 9. Ram-Leela - Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela © Bhansali Productions Not quite sure why this one had the kind of impact that it did, but it did sadden us to see yet another love story cut short in the name of caste and community, that is so quick to issue death warrants to those who date to follow their hearts, just like Ram and Leela. 10. Madhu and Aditya - Dhadak © Dharma Productions Not the best closing scenes, Madhu and Adityaâs death in Dhadak is more than tragic, to say the least. As for our sadness level, looking at their bloodied bodies was bad enough to draw a 10/10 on the sad-o-meter. View the full article
  3. Vladimir Putin can do anything, literally anything, and still be flexing on any and every single person. It's just in his blood, or maybe he's developed that fear in people over the years. With so many politicians and world leaders at high risk, and so many already tested positive for coronavirus, Putin is making sure he's absolutely safe in the most hilarious way possible. Just roaming around in his custom made corona hazmat suit, he's staying safe AND stylish during the chaos. Honestly, I'm still not sure if the pictures of him in a cabinet meeting dressed in that hazmat suit are real or not - so many sources are saying it's real - but I just wanted to add a disclaimer. Moreover, I wouldn't put it past Putin to show up with all the precautions, tbh. "Are you wearing the.." "The custom corona couture? Yes, I am." 4. Beginning with the initial outbreak in China, the current crisis in Italy and subsequently, throughout the world, doctors and nurses in all departments were told they may have to start working in emergency rooms and intensive care units, a directive that sent shock waves through the medical community. Doctors and health workers across the world are giving up time with their loved ones to help keep ours safe and well. They have a simple request for all their hard work in combating #coronavirus ...#socialdistancing #stayathome #stayhomeforus #COVID2019AU #medtwitter pic.twitter.com/z9EUsiYnvs â AMA Media (@ama_media) March 19, 2020 As demands ramp up with the number of cases inching closer to 300,000, itâs sobering to realise how crucial the role of medical personnel are in society. An estimated 10-15 million doctors practice across the globe, and their counterparts in some of the worldâs more flashy, glamorous job titles receive compensation thatâs quite simply absurd - given the need of the hour. Weâre taking a closer look at the income disparities doctors have to face in four hotspots where the virusâ physical and social presence has made massive changes - India, China, Italy and the United States. Hereâs what we find: 1. Social Media Influencers © Reuters Thereâs no avoiding it - social media influencers have taken over their respective platforms in the last 10years, and their incomes have also exponentially exploded in return. Perhaps the most obvious and popular example is Kylie Jenner from the Kardashian dynasty - the âyoungest self-made billionaireâ rakes in $180 million per year according to Forbes. In case youâre wondering how much she earns compared to her counterparts, most of them are in med-school - the young celebrity is just 22 years old. © Reuters Meanwhile in India and China, while thereâs no shortage of influencers across films, music and fashion plying their trade, the emergence of Chinese-owned TikTok has spread the influencer bug much deeper into Indian cities and towns, amassing over 120 million users. Mr. Faisu, who we interviewed earlier in December, had close to 20 million followers before being hit with a ban for political content - a fanbase that allows him to earn an estimated 30-40 lakhs per annum. Thatâs about twice as much as that of a specialised cardiologist in India. 2. CEOs © Reuters It all starts from the top, of course - most of the worldâs richest people are helming global corporations with thousands of employees. In the case of India and the United States, things already seem severely tilted, with both nations topping the ranks for CEO to the average worker ratio. Reliance mogul Mukesh Ambani earns a staggering 48 times more than the average Indian doctor, not even counting stocks and a diverse portfolio of earnings. © Reuters When it comes to the US, things are clearer. Amazonâs Jeff Bezos makes about 14 times more than the average, fully-qualified doctor, not counting for his 16% stake in the company. Bring that into the picture, however, and Bezos earns an astounding 6 lakh times more. 3. Athletes © Reuters According to estimates, the worldâs sports industries make up close to $500 billion - no doubt supported by the tireless athletic and marketing efforts of the worldâs biggest athletes. Italy has been a key nation behind the dominance of football in sports today - most of the teams in Serie A pay their players between 4 to 1 million US dollars a year. Juventus, in particular, pays over twice of that with an average of 10 million, but what about Ronaldo? The legendary player pulled in a whopping $108 million in 2019 when combining both his winnings, earnings and endorsements - 805 times that of an average Italian dottore. © Reuters Things arenât that different in China - the epicentre of the worldâs viral crisis, that has major income disparity as well. The Chinese Super League attracts worldwide talent to play for its teams and the economic powerhouse pays its players around $1 million annually - around 250 times that of the Chinese average salary. Bring doctors into the mix along with the leagueâs wealthiest player, Brazilâs Oscar, and his heavy $25 million earnings tower in comparison to the $13,000 that Chinese docs take home each year. Thatâs a ratio of nearly 1:2000. © Reuters Leaving aside football, India (until recent years, perhaps) has considered sports synonymous with cricket, and on that spreadsheet, no one dominates the competition quite like skipper Virat Kohli. While the average IPL player nets around $5 million annually, the Indian captain pulls in $25 million per annum - making his bank accounts fill over 3000 times faster than most Indian doctors. 4. Filmstars © Reuters Unsurprisingly, both India and the United States have points to make here, with them both running the two most successful film industries in the world. Artists, in general, see great variation in income - while struggling actors make extremely irregular annual incomes, things are very different at the other end. Dwayne âThe Rockâ Johnson sits at the peak here, raking in close to $90 million a year. The top ten ranges anywhere from that figure to Will Smithâs $35 million, making them earn between 900 to 350 times the average American doc. © Reuters In India, the difference is truly astounding. Akshay Kumar, who also happened to be the 4th most paid actor in the world last year, raked in $65 million - close to 6.5 thousand times an Indian doctorâs takeaway even in major cities such as Mumbai. 5. Politicians © Reuters Well, at least for the other three you have the benefit of saying theyâve earned their worth - nailing down the exact incomes of politicians turns out to be an understandably difficult affair. In the United States, Donald Trump entered the presidency as the only billionaire in US Presidential history - in 2019, the POTUS raked in somewhere over half a billion dollars, making him at least four thousand times richer than the average doctor in the US. © Reuters In India, however, expecting a straight annual income figure for politicians is naive. On paper, for example, PM Narendra Modi, for example, has a salary of around $30,000 per annum - less than the average tier-1 city specialist earns. If we look at the scale of major scams led by any of the many corrupt positions in our government over the years, things seem to feel a lot bleaker. Take the mid-2010s Coalgate scam, which cost the nation $33.33 billion, close to 10% the net worth of Indiaâs entire healthcare industry - thereâs no shortage of reasons to raise eyebrows at the earnings of Indian politicians. While all these professions have their place in the society, the current pandemic is a wake-up call for many to remember just how much time, attention and money is diverted towards not so essential figures in the society. Hopefully after the crisis is averted, governments and regulatory bodies will step in to ensure that the invaluable service given by the worldâs medical professionals gets the recognition it deserves. 5. The morning after the fateful night of 16th December 2012, newspaper headlines screamed about a 23-year-old female physiotherapy student getting gang-raped and brutalised by six men in a moving bus in South Delhi the previous evening. Details of the bone-chilling assault surfaced soon after as people began to crowd the streets in protest, demanding justice for Jyoti Singh, also known today as Indiaâs daughter Nirbhaya. © Reuters And now, more than seven years later, delayed justice has been served with the hanging of the four Nirbhaya rapists who also murdered her in 2012. Hanged till death. Life is extinct. Justice has been served. The victory signs have been shown. Amid all the hubbub and celebration outside the Tihar Jail premises this morning, one woman, in particular, was jubilant. She wasnât Nirbhayaâs relative, neither her friend nor her neighbour. She was a fellow woman, an honest well-wisher and a member of the Indian legal system celebrating a big win for every Indian rape victim and survivor. © Twitter She is Nirbhayaâs lawyer Seema Samriddhi Kushwaha who fought a long and hard battle over the last seven years along with Nirbhayaâs parents, to bring them the justice they had been denied this long. Here is everything we know about this woman with an iron grit, lawyer Seema Samriddhi Kushwaha: 1. Advocate Seema Kushwaha hails from the city of Etawah in Uttar Pradesh. 2. She is a Delhi University graduate who completed her law degree in 2014. © Twitter 3. Currently, she is preparing for the UPSC examinations to become an IAS officer. 4. Then a law trainee, Seema had attended the protests held outside the Rashtrapati Bhavan after Nirbhayaâs case came into light, and decided just then that she would bring the culprits to justice. 5. She officially took over Nirbhayaâs case in 2014 and pushed for a Fast Track court listing. 6. This was her first case and she decided to fight it for free. She put up a strong fight against the convicts right from the lower to the higher court. © Twitter 7. In the same year, she joined the Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust as a legal advisor on January 24th. 8. Today, she works as a practising lawyer at the Indian Supreme Court in Delhi. 9. She now plans to fight the case of an 11-year-old girl, who was similarly gang-raped and murdered by six men in Biharâs Purnia. Thanks to advocate Seema Kushwaha, Nirbhaya can finally rest in peace after a long wait, and India can celebrate a big win for its women and legal system. View the full article
  6. Taapsee Pannu. Sigh. This woman had me in her grip since Pink and then with Mulk, then Badlaâ¦the list just goes on. Basically, I now know what to expect when I see her on-screen: Badassery. © NH Studioz Her latest movie Thappad started making waves ever since its powerful trailer was dropped online. People were already convinced that Taapsee was on the way to add another âhitâ in her kitty, as a glimpse into her powerful performance, left people wanting more. © T-Series The Anubhav Sinha-directed movie, basically, holds a giant mirror to the society showing them the underlying patriarchy in our society, which is internalised to such an extent that one just ends up overlooking the evil that it is. Something that is bound to make most people squirm in their seats. © T-Series Thappad has finally hit the screens today and as expected, people are raving about the movie, its plot, the concept, the hard underlying message, but most importantly, Taapsee. This person is impressed, indeed. Just completed #Thappad and it was just wowwwww! What a moral behind the movie. You have done a great job @taapsee as usual. Thank you for giving this type of movie. Every man and woman must watch this movie. â Dhameliya Dhruvil (@DDhruvil7) February 25, 2020 Taapseeâs best work ever? He thinks so. #Thappad is a film for everyone. Even though it fights patriarchy, itâs informed, sensitive, and creates an environment that doesnât glorify any of the two sides. @anubhavsinha Hats off ð¼. @taapsee delivers easily one of her best performances ï¸ð¼ â Jash (@jashtchill) February 28, 2020 A must-watch. Just watched #Thappad & I highly recommend it. Beautiful scenes, brilliant dialogues, and an extremely delicate and important subject dealt with immense sensitivity. @taapsee ï¸ take a bow. A must watch movie. #ThappadReview #Taapsee #DomesticViolence â Neha Desai (@neaadesai) February 28, 2020 Kudos, Mr Director. Just a slap Just a slap Just a slap Just a slap Just a slap No, it is not just a slap Awesome movie sir @anubhavsinha @taapsee #Thappad â Mahitha (@Mahithaspeaks) February 28, 2020 Fair warning. #Thappad is Powerful & Technically sound with @taapsee delivering performance of a lifetime while @anubhavsinha is technically sound and leaves an impact. Masses will find hard to connect. #ThappadReview - âââ (3/5) pic.twitter.com/lfMLQKNiKI â Abhishek V Parihar (@BlogDrive) February 28, 2020 And just like everything else, this too has its flipside as the hashtag #BoycottThappad splashed across Twitter. Oh, boy. Thappad se divorce Ghar todne wali movie#BoycottThappad â Bharat Sa (@BharatSa8) February 19, 2020 Wait. What? We boycott @taapsee movie thappad. As see is the part of #UrbanNaxals and #TukdeTukdeGang. We don't want to see Naxals movie. #boycottthappad â Manwender Singh (@singh_manwender) February 26, 2020 The dedication is real. #boycottthappad Not just boycott, we wonât watch this movie even in its pirated form. â SR India 1 (@sanjayrais) February 26, 2020 Ok. That escalated quickly. If you're a #Hindu please #boycottthappad ... Even if u do not support #KapilMishra or d government atleast you should be a patriot. Boycotting #Thappad is a patriotic move because @taapsee supports those who are doing riots in nation's capital. They killed #AnkitSharma â Kudrati Virus (@trolling_daddy) February 28, 2020 Well, did people think Taapsee was just going to let trolls go around and do their thing? The star, while speaking to ETimes reacted to #BoycottThappad trending on Twitter and unsurprisingly, seemed rather unperturbed. âI think personal opinions of actors should not affect their profession and I donât really think it does to an extent. It takes about 1000-2000 tweets to trend a certain hashtag. Does that really affect a film? I donât think so. © T-Series I might have different social and political views from a lot of people but that does not mean people will not go and watch the film. An actor is never bigger than a film. A film has hundreds of people involved in it. It is stupid to decide whether or not you will watch a movie based on an actorâs socio-political views.â Taapsee said. © T-Series In the end, the choice is yours, people- watch it or donât watch it. However, going out of your way to ensure no one watches it is a bit, hmmâ¦whatâs the word I am looking for hereâ¦oh, âjuvenileâ, donât you think? Itâs a free country and letâs keep it that way, please. View the full article
  7. Itâs nothing new, but itâs always fascinating - some of our favourite action stars have really pushed the bar in recent years with body transformations that seem to defy the laws of biology. From inspiring fans with straight-up gym-dedication to bringing unconventional workouts in vogue, here are 6 Bollywood actors that packed on some serious muscle - and the secret behind their beefed-up onscreen looks: 1. Hrithik Roshan - War © Instagram After going a bit soft for Super 30, Hrithik followed up with an incredible, well-documented body transformation for his role as rogue ex-RAW agent, Major Kabir, for War. Given just two months to pull it off, the actor went through an extreme zero momentum reps (ZMR) regime, supplemented by band work - all through his mid-forties while nursing his ankle and spine injuries. His secret? âThe most important being writing down each dayâs progress,â revealed Hrithik in an Instagram post. âIâd aim to do one more than yesterday - there is magic in consistency.â 2. Aamir Khan - Dangal © Instagram Similar to Hrithik, Aamirâs amazing fat-to-fit body transformation occurred under less than half a year and saw the actor go from 38% body fat (which he required for 80% of the role), to a hulked out 9.67% and a physique weâd usually expect from WWE superstars. Aamir attributes the success of his workout to his expertly crafted diet - designed by Nikhil Dhurandhar, a professor in nutritional sciences at Texas Tech University in the US. The diet was tailored to take advantage of Aamirâs workout schedule - he would eat a lean 1800 calorie meal plan during days focused on cutting out fat, and pack on the protein with a 2500 calorie plan during days when building muscle was the primary focus. âNo matter how hard you exercise,â says Aamir, âif your diet isnât right, you wonât get the desired results.â 3. Vicky Kaushal - The Immortal Ashwatthama © Instagram Unlike Aamir and Hrithik, however, Uri star Vicky Kaushal is going the path less travelled for his upcoming film, The Immortal Ashwatthama. Playing the son of Dronacharya, a legendary figure from the Mahabharat epic, Kaushal aims to get pretty big for this role. While he weighed around 90 kilograms in Uri, his trainers are helping him get to around 115 kilos for the upcoming role. Whatâs interesting is that Kushalâs route to buffdom isnât just dependant on pumping iron at the gym - in order to keep up with the filmâs action scenes, heâs relying on MMA training, with a focus on Israeli martial art Krav Maga and the Japanese techniques of Jiu-Jitsu. 4. Aditya Roy Kapur - Malang © Instagram Similar to Kaushal, Aditya Roy Kapurâs latest Bollywood outing saw him taking on his most physically demanding role yet in Malang - through an unusual workout routine that saw him dive into yoga, 20-minute runs and even the ancient martial art form from Kerala, Kalaripayattu for his transformation. This was all supplemented by a razor-sharp focus on his diet - which was pushed even further to the limit for key scenes. According to nutrition expert Anmol Singhal, âjust before the body shots (that you see in the trailer), we cut down salt from all his mealsâ7 days prior to the shoot so that there is no water retention in the body (allowing Kapur's muscles and veins to pop on camera).â 5. Tiger Shroff - Baaghi 3 © Instagram True - Iâd much rather see Tiger Shroff work on better scripts than he currently has, but thereâs no denying that the man is in absolute control of his body ever since he burst onto the industry with Heropanti in 2014. This time, heâs preparing for the third film in his Baaghi series - and the routine involves an interesting combination of cardio, weights, bodyweight exercises and to break the monotony - MMA combined with dancing. âWhen you are dancing you are listening to music you like or you are enjoying the choreography,â shared the actor with GQ India. âYou don't come to know how much you have burnt until you are done with your session. I think I lose up to around 1 to 1.5 kg of water weight after dancing.â 6. Vidyut Jamwal - Junglee © Instagram Probably the most popular stunt-focused action star in India right now, Jamwalâs physique isnât just for show - carrying out his stunt choreography and parkour techniques require impeccable coordination, discipline and strength to pull off. While his diet and food habits are as youâd expect, itâs his psychology and single-minded focus in the gym that gets him his results. âFirst they call me obsessed, or obsessive,â he tells Hindustan Times in an interview, âand then the same people will call me for training or diet advice. So this obsession is normally a compliment.â View the full article
  8. The only thing people can talk about today is Budget 2020, quite understandably. It was presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha today in a session that lasted about two and a half hours. Honestly, I don't understand it at all but basically here are the highlights. For people with an income between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 7.5 lakh per annum, tax rates have been reduced to 10%, and for those earning between Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh per annum, the income tax rate has now been slashed to 15% from 20%. For people in the Rs 10 lakh and Rs 12.5 lakh slab, the tax rate is now 25% and for those earning up to Rs 5 lakh, no tax shall be levied. However, the main problem with the Budget 2020 presentation was that this information was revealed at the very end. People probably got tired of waiting and used the time in a productive way - making memes. Just like every year, Twitter is flooded with jokes about the Budget this time as well, since meme is the only language that anybody can understand. #Budget2020 Nobody: CAs today: pic.twitter.com/6CfKHDxhrf â Sagar (@sagarcasm) February 1, 2020 Oops. #Budget2020 Govt collecting tax from Middle Class: pic.twitter.com/qSZb2ui5FN â رÙÙاÙا (@RomanaRaza) February 1, 2020 I'm confused. He has now bagged a lead role in a movie titled Kaagaz that is backed by Salman Khanâs production house. Pankaj Tripathi entered the film industry with Run and Omkara in 2004 and has every time made his presence felt on the big screen. From Sacred Games to Stree, he has proved his versatility too. And now, with him getting the center stage in Kaagaz, we can safely say how he has redefined the role of a hero in Bollywood. Today, we honour the story and its requirements," said the actor stating his happiness as he is playing the lead role in Kaagaz that is based on the real-life story of Lal Bihari, a farmer who was declared dead on paper. âWhen I joined the movies, I had never imagined that any of these wonderful things were possible for me. I came to the movies with modest expectations, looking for good work. The very fact that the audience welcomed me with so much love is humbling. Kaagaz is my first solo hero project, and there's nothing more fulfilling for an actor than the after-feeling of being part of such a strong story,â added the actor. Interestingly, he is also a part of Kabir Khan's '83 and the makers shared a poster featuring him, today. The actor would be playing PR Man Singh, the manager of India's cricket team in 1983. 10. Mahira Khan urges government to come down hard on child abusersPakistani superstar Mahira Khan has urged the government to come hard on people involved in sexual abuse against children, after a seven-year old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Ziarat Kaka Sahib area of Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Last month, Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari on Twitter, had announced that the government is preparing a holistic policy on child abuse under the PM's directive and within two weeks it would be ready with all stakeholders being taken on board. Commenting on Mazari’s tweet, Mahira Khan, who is also the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees' (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador for Pakistan, said: “Dear @ShireenMazari1 It’s been two weeks. Is the policy ready? Another beautiful child raped and murdered. How many more would it take?” The actress urged the policy makers to come down hard on these culprits, saying, “Please please come down hard on these monsters.”
  11. With the year and a decade coming to an end, we all have good enough reasons to party hard. Not that we've ever needed one to go all out as if there's no tomorrow. However, as much as we love to lose all inhibitions and drink like fish while ringing in the new year, nobody likes to deal with that nasty hangover that follows. © iStock Though, we bet, hangover is the least of your worries, considering the atrocity that your skin goes through. A hangover will heal within a day or two, even if you just lie in your bed, cursing the apes who discovered alcohol, and make a shallow new year's resolution that you'll never touch alcohol again. The havoc that those n number of tequila shots, and those endless cocktails wreak on your skin, though - well, that's a different story. © iStock Luckily, there are a few easy hacks that not only work well as quick and easy ways to deal with a hangover, they also double up as the best skincare routine, after a hard night of partying. Drink Loads Of Water © iStock This is a no brainer - alcohol, because of some witchcraft, dehydrates your body from within. Naturally, apart from a shot up liver, you also end up with unbelievably dry skin. The situation is even worse if your skin type is dry or combination skin. As soon as you wake up, drink as much water as you can. It also helps if you have been drinking water throughout the previous evening. Ideally, for every two drinks that you have, you should have had a glass of water. Throughout out the day after, you should try to finish off at least two litres of water. Water is the best way to go for a quick detox of the body. Load Up On Grease & Carbs © iStock If you wake up with a hangover, you are bound to feel nauseated and feel like puking your guts out. Just fight that urge, and load up on carbs. Also, it goes a long way if you have something greasy to eat. Get a plate full of biryani, or something fried. The greasier the better. This not only helps your body to process the alcohol faster, it also slows down the alcohol mixing in your bloodstream. In a way, it speeds up the process of curing the hangover. Moisturise Before & After © iStock Now, this has very little to do with curing a hangover, but trust us, your skin will be forever grateful if you moisturise properly. Try to do it before you hit the scene of the party as that is a great way to prepare your skin for the upcoming onslaught. Also, for the morning after the party, apply a healthy dose of moisturiser, especially under your eyes. If you have a moisturiser that is light and is refreshing, not only will it rejuvenate your skin faster, you'll also feel a lot better. Shower © iStock Once you get your senses back, don't just head for the bed. Take a hot shower first, as that helps you to clean off the external effects of alcohol a little quicker. Also, a hot shower after a hard night is anyway a cathartic experience, so the principle should work well here as well. In case you cannot afford to hit the sack and need to visit your parents in the morning, or worse, have to go to work, just stand under a cold shower for about 10 seconds. The cold shower will jolt up your system, and help you get through the day. Hit The Sack © iStock Finally, get a night of good, long sleep, for at least seven to eight hours. Your body anyway needs that rest on a regular day, but because of the adventures and revelling that you had been up to all night, it definitely needs more. It does help if you sleep on fresh sheets and a fresh set of clothes. Just ensure that you are all moisturised and hydrated before you hit the sack. That way, your internal systems will get plenty of time to work their magic as you sleep. View the full article

While one Kaushal has already hit the headlines, the younger one isn't far behind. They were both at their casual best; however, their sneakers looked so edgy that we just couldn't ignore them. © Viral Bhayani © Sneakernews While Vicky was seen making a statement wearing Golden Goose Superstar sneakers, Sunny, on the other hand, turned heads with his 'Yeezy Boost 350 v2 Citrin'. © Sneakernews Vicky's grey golden goose sneakers appear dirty due to its distressed finish but in reality, it's only the effect that makes it look like that. Furthermore, the golden goose features a round toe with lace-up front. The modern aesthetics of these sneakers will let you stay calm even if they get dirtier. 13. Remember Apple's new Mac Pro machine? Yeah, the one which people started calling a "cheese grater". Well, in case you remember, it was estimated that a fully decked out version of the Mac Pro with all the bells and whistles will cost around $45,000, which is roughly around Rs 35 Lakh. Guess what? Apple started accepting pre-orders for the Mac Pro yesterday in the US and we finally know how much it'll cost to buy the most powerful Mac Pro. Turns out, it's more expensive than what was estimated earlier. © Apple If you head over to Apple's website and configure one with the most powerful pieces of hardware, then it'll add up $52,599. Yes, the most powerful Mac Pro costs over $50,000. That's just insane because it roughly translates to about Rs 38 lakh. The price tag makes it most expensive Mac ever. The base price of the Mac Pro starts at $5,999. That'll get you an entry-level machine with an octa-core Intel Xeon CPU, 32GB of RAM, a Radeon Pro 580X graphics, and 256GB of SSD. But if you keep adding on better components, like a 28-core 2.5GHz (turbo boost up to 4.4Ghz) Intel Xeon W that costs $7,000, the price naturally goes up. Top of the line GPU add-on, for instance, will add another $10,000 and so on. So you add all of that and the fully decked out Mac Pro will cost you $52,599. It's worth pointing out that the new Pro Display XDR isn't included in this price. That'll be an additional $5,999. © YouTube/ Marques Brownlee Well, you can't pre-order one in India just yet. Apple's website clearly tells you to check back later for availability details. But looking at the pricing in the US, we won't be surprised to see a super-premium price tag here too. We'll be back with India-specific details very soon, so stay tuned. Source: TheVerge View the full article

However, before this insane amount of love and fame came his way, Rory was living a rather tough life. In a recent interview, he revealed what life was before the biggest show in the history of television happened to him. He was a homeless man living in a tent and stealing food to make ends meet back in Iceland. “Two years ago I was in a tent – literally in a tent – stealing food occasionally. Eventually I got a job and sorted myself out, but then suddenly I'm getting driven around in a nice car in the biggest and best show in the world; just shows how your fortunes can change. Amazing”, he exclaimed. This interview was a part of a GOT reunion special which will be available as a part of a DVD edition of the show. He might not be the King in the North but to his fans, this 50-year-old actor is a true example of what it means to be the king of working hard. View the full article

For a dispute that simmered and boiled on the troubled land of Ayodhya for the last three decades, the last judgement on the conflict has laid to rest any contestation on the matter for the time to come. The special five-judge Constitutional bench set up by the Supreme Court of India to rule out the final verdict of the Ayodhya case, has declared that the disputed site in Ayodhya shall be used for the construction of a Ram temple, while a five-acre land in the area shall be given to the Muslim community for the construction of a mosque. © BCCL Headed by the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, along with Justices DY Chandrachud, S Abdul Nazeer, Ashok Bhushan and SA Bobde, the unanimous judgement by the judges was taken keeping in mind the diktats of the Indian Constitution and the court of law which calls for a just and fair ruling based on concrete, reliable proofs and arguments. © Twitter/thefirstindia Here are 10 such important statements made by the Supreme Court of India in support of the Ayodhya verdict: 1. "The Babri mosque was built by Mir Baqi. But it is inappropriate for the Court to get into an area of theology while coming to a decision on such a sensitive subject." 2. "The court must accept and take into consideration the faiths and beliefs of worshippers. However, the court should strive to preserve balance under all circumstances." © BCCL 3. "The claim of Nirmohi Akhara is limited to management of the temple. Nirmohi Akhara is not a 'Shebait' and their arguments were made on archaeology reports. The credibility of the Archaeological Survey of India are beyond doubt and its findings can't be neglected." 4. "Hindus consider Ayodhya as Lord Ram's birthplace, while Muslims call it the Babri mosque. Faith of Hindus that Lord Ram was born here remains undisputed." 5. "Hindus have faith and belief that Lord Ram was born under the dome. However, faith is a matter of individual belief." © Twitter 6. "Titles can't be decided on the basis of faith and belief but on the claims. Historical accounts indicate that the belief of Hindus that Ayodhya was the birthplace of Lord Ram is true." 7. "There is evidence that Ram Chabutra, Sita Rasoi was worshipped by the Hindus before the British came. Evidence in the records shows that Hindus were in the possession of the outer court of the disputed land." 8. "There is no evidence that Muslims abandoned the mosque. Hindus always believed birthplace of Lord Ram was in the inner courtyard of the mosque. Clearly establishes that Muslims offered prayer inside the inner courtyard while Hindus offered prayers in the outer courtyard." © BCCL 9. "Within the next 3-4 months, the Central government should set up a trust and hand over the disputed site to them for the construction of a temple." 10. "A suitable five-acre plot of land within Ayodhya must be given to Sunni Wakf Board for the construction of a mosque." View the full article

Ever since the first trailer for the live-action remake of the Disney classic and my all-time favourite movie, 'The Lion King' dropped, I have been literally counting the days until its release. I'm going to be honest, the wait is killing me! It physically hurts! via GIPHY Watching furry little baby Simba sneezing in the trailer, damn near broke my heart, as it was exactly like the animated version from 1994. Every detail was perfect! via GIPHY via GIPHY What I like about the live-action version is that it seems to be sticking to the old recipe, and is not trying hard to be different or pull out some crazy tricks from a new hat in an attempt to set itself apart from the original. via GIPHY Why fix what isn't broken, right? Sigh…wish someone had told that to the makers of 'Aladdin'. via GIPHY Okay. I don't wanna go there now. It's a Pandora's Box, and I am still trying to get over what my eyes witnessed in the hall! Anyway, last week, we finally got to hear the voice of Beyonce as Nala, and man! She sounds good. I mean, when has she ever not? That was a convincing bunch of seconds when we got to hear her asking Simba to come home and finally take his place as the rightful king of the Pride Lands. via GIPHY Oh man, I just can't wait to 'feel the love tonight' between these two! via GIPHY A few days ago, a new Japanese trailer for the movie was dropped and it contained some deliciously fresh clips, giving us a taste of what was in store for us. Besides the iconic “everything the light touches” scene, the new clip shows baby Simba and Mufasa rolling about and having a fun father-son moment, which was so freaking adorable! (I am going to have such a hard time controlling myself from squealing when I see little Simba on the big screen!) via GIPHY Mufasa is seen trying to teach Simba the art of tracking prey and poor Zazu becomes the casualty! via GIPHY This took me right back to the 'I just can't wait to be king' track, which focuses on the push-and-pull chemistry between the two. via GIPHY Guys, keep mentally preparing yourself for July 19th 2019. You need to be ready for the freight train of feels and emotions that's gonna hit us. For us 90s kids in particular, it's going to be a landmark day. So, 'Be Prepared'. via GIPHY The movie is directed by Jon Favreau. The cast includes Donald Glover (Simba), Beyonce (Nala), James Earl Jones (Mufasa) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Scar).

  21. Growing up in a nation full of cricket-crazy men, we find it unbelievably unlikely that comprehending and understanding the rules of the game would be difficult. It's pretty simple, hit the ball with the bat and make runs. If the ball rolls to the boundary, it gives you four runs. If it flies across, it's a six. The team that ends up with the highest total wins the match. Easy, right? But there are people in this world who possess the talent of being able to ruin almost anything in this world and that is exactly what happened to this poor American YouTuber. 26-year-old, former American football player and current YouTube sensation, Conner Sullivan made plans to visit India, the land of diversity, Royal Enfield and well, cricket! During his time in the national capital of New Delhi, Sullivan decided to check out an Indian Premier League match between Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab. Unaware of what goes on in a match of cricket, he bought a ticket to the Firoz Shah Kotla stadium and entered in the final overs of the second innings. © YouTube/Conner Sullivan To his excruciatingly hard luck, he met with a self-proclaimed Indian “professional cricketer” who decided to stick with him for the rest of the evening because that's how we are. We are overfriendly people, guys. Whenever the poor vlogger asked why something was happening the way it was, our buddy's answer was “because I am a professional cricketer”. © YouTube/Conner Sullivan Our “Professional Cricketer” With Sullivan “It is Indian baseball,” the man in black once shouted, to the hard cringe of every Indian cricket fan who watches Sullivan's videos. The guy even ruined 'lassi' for the pitiful American, who tried his best to become a part of the Indian culture by calling the beverage by its original name but our “professional cricketer” had to call it “sugar buttermilk”. Why? “Because I am a professional cricketer!” Check out the full video here:
  22. If you think this is another post that is going to give you a 'not-my-fault' card and blame carbs, hormones, sugar, junk, insulin, etc. for you being overweight, pay twice the amount of attention. Let me first put out the most important fact on the table. Who do you think is responsible for you being fat? YOU. Nothing and no one else. So firstly, stop with the blame game. You may still be thinking that "no, it is the hormones. I eat healthy all the time. How can it be?" Read through and you will realize how it is still you. The very basic of weight loss or weight gain is calorie balance. Eat more and expend less, you gain weight. Eat less and expend more, you lose weight. As simple as that. So the ONLY rule to lose weight is to burn more calories and eat fewer calories. Simply put, 'Eat less move more.' So, how do you figure that you are getting fat even if though you are eating healthy? 1. You Indulge In Mindless Eating Humans have evolved with survival instincts and this survival has one main food instinct which says 'see food, eat food.' I am not lying. You can try this experiment yourself. In your working space, fill a bowl up with chocolates and keep it someplace where people often visit, ideally by the printer or the water dispenser. © Unsplash Now check the same bowl towards the end of the day. There is a good chance that there would be little to no chocolates in there. Then, ask your co-workers casually what have they eaten all day. Almost nobody will mention chocolates on that list. Not that they want to lie to you, their brain simply does not register the food they eat subconsciously. The same translates to portion sizes and eating while not paying attention. Look at the computer screen or TV while eating and you might as well finish off an entire pizza, as your brain does not respond to the fullness signal as your attention is elsewhere. 2. Under-Reporting & Over-Estimation There is research which shows that people who keep food journals are terrible at reporting their food intakes and even worse at estimating their energy expenditure. © Unsplash A 1992 study showed that people under-reported food intake by 47% and over-reported energy expenditure by 51%. Considering that you eat as per the normal food guidelines and do around an hour of activity per day, your intake would come to around 2200 kcals and expenditure would be 400 kcals. But as per the study, the same example above meant people reported that they ate around 1200 kcals and had an expenditure of around 800 kcals. That is a huge margin of error and now you can see where you might be going wrong too. 3. Cheat Days Do Not Count This is usually the norm that even though you may be eating well or mindfully during the week, every weekend ends up being a deserved cheat day. © Unsplash Firstly, if you are dieting in the first place and you are above the normal range of body fat%, i.e. 10 to 15%, nothing about your cheat day is 'deserved'. And more often than not, these unaccounted cheat days are a shit ton of calories down your throat that needs to be stored somewhere. They are not going to magically disappear into thin air. So, the next time you think that it is the hormones making you fat, always remember this: It is ALWAYS you! Pankaj and his wife recently performed the 'Pooja' ceremony with their family and close friends. © Facebook © Facebook Pankaj is a simple man who believes in chasing his dreams with hard work and determination. Hard work surely has many faces and the actor's wonderful home is a great example of it.
  24. Arguably two of the greatest footballers of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi share a rivalry like no other in international football. The sport has seen many superstars over the ages, but the decade-long reign of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi is arguably something that's going to last in our memories for a really long time. The two footballing greats have made the sport their own playing arena and the fact that they have won a record five Ballon d'Ors, goes on to show how dominant they have been in the last decade. The duel for football's top individual award began in 2008 when Ronaldo pipped Messi to bag his first Ballon d'Or. However, Messi staged a spectacular comeback a year later and went on to bag the coveted award for four successive years. Then, Ronaldo bounced back to clinch the prestigious award in 2013 and 2014 before Messi took his tally to a record five Ballon d'Or wins in 2015. While many ruled the Portuguese out of the race, Ronaldo stunned everyone by bagging the award in 2016 and 2017, once again proving he's second to none. © Reuters While Luka Modric ended their dominance after winning the Ballon d'Or last year, the Ronaldo vs Messi debate continues to capture the imagination of football pundits and fans alike. The latest individual to give his verdict on who's the best amongst the two superstars was none other than Indian football team talisman Sunil Chhetri. Giving his opinion on the subject while picking one as his favourite player and the other as his role model, Chhetri, during a live interaction on Instagram, said: “Who is better? I think both Messi and Ronaldo are amazing but if you ask who is my favourite, it will be Messi for me. But if you need a role model, I would say Cristiano Ronaldo would be a better pick". There was no surprise to see Chhetri admiring Messi's talent, but it was Ronaldo's work ethics that made him select the Portuguese over the Argentine as a better role model. "Messi is more like a god gift. Some of the things he (Messi) does, it is so difficult to learn. He does them so effortlessly. With Cristiano, there's so much of hard work and if you see his graph every year, there's so much to learn," the Indian football team captain said. © Reuters “For example, when he (Ronaldo) was younger, you would see him on the left doing those step-overs but now he takes less touches at the ball, he would pass the ball on the wing and then run into the box. And his running is so good, it's so tough to mark him. His header, his finishing from both left and right – it's just brilliant. He takes less time on ball now but he is as good as ever and so devastating,” Chhetri added further in the video. Apart from Ronaldo and Messi, Chhetri also weighed in on another battle - Mohamed Salah vs Neymar - that continues to throng the social media. "Salah or Neymar? Salah's form has been so good for the past two-three years. But, if I have to pick, I'll pick Neymar, yes," Chhetri claimed. Barring Neymar, who wasn't part of the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) squad which was eliminated in the Round of 16 tie at the hands of Manchester United, the likes of Messi, Ronaldo and Salah are all active in the ongoing edition of the UEFA Champions League. While Messi and Salah went goalless in the first leg of their respective quarterfinals, Ronaldo's goal saved Juventus the blushes during the 1-1 draw against a spirited Ajax side.
  25. OnePlus 7 is right around the corner and new details keep popping up on the internet before its eventual launch sometime next month. In order to compete, OnePlus has already added some unique features according to previous leaks but an unexpected feature just got discovered. A new leak of a prototype shows that the OnePlus 7 will use the Pro moniker and will also be borrowing features we've seen on previous Samsung smartphones. © Weibo The leak also confirmed a few features on the upcoming OnePlus 7 Pro as it will be using a curved edge screen, seen before on Samsung flagship smartphones. The smartphone is said to have a notch-less display which could only mean that it will have a pop-up selfie camera. The OnePlus 7 Pro is said to have a 6.67-inch Super Optic Display; a made-up marketing term for the curved edge display. The smartphone is said to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and will also have an X50 modem for 5G connectivity. © Twitter The OnePlus 7 Pro is also expected to have 8GB of RAM and 256GB internal storage if this leak turns out to be true. Previous reports have suggested that the smartphone will have a triple camera setup at the back and a sliding or pop-up selfie camera. It is also possible that the selfie camera may be embedded into the bezels. © Twitter A regular OnePlus 7 without the X50 model will also be offered with different configurations for customers who just want a traditional OnePlus device. We could expect the 5G version of the smartphone to be priced considerably more than the regular OnePlus 7 smartphones. We will know more about the OP7 closer to the launch. Source: TechRadar
