  1. As a member of the Indian cricket team this World Cup, Hardik Pandya is living the dream and could not have asked for a better beginning to the tournament, as the Men in Blue are currently unbeaten and are looking like one of the top contenders for the world championship. Individually, as the bowling all-rounder of the Bleed Blue army, Pandya walks to the pitch as a finisher, looking to hit longer shots in order to put up bigger totals on the board. Due to the presence of excellent talent in the departments of pacers and spinners, Pandya acts as a between-the-spell bowler who is good enough to hold his own against the best hitters of the ongoing tournament. He is also trying to bring a lot of variation to his deliveries which seemed to work against Pakistan on Sunday. Pandya has time and again shared his desire to bring home the World Cup trophy based on his hard work and dedication. “On 14th July, I want to have the Cup in my hand,” the 25-year-old had said in an interview with the International Cricket Council (ICC). His excitement towards the World Cup is clear as day. You can see it in his celebrations, his interviews and his bling! In a video recently put up by the official Twitter handle of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Hardik Pandya showed off his extremely shiny jewellery during a bus ride, presumably to Hampshire where the Men in Blue will take on Afghanistan on 22 June 2019 at the Rose Bowl Cricket Ground. In a segment called 'Chahal TV', that has become extremely famous in the past couple of months, Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal interviews his teammates and talks about all kinds of things in a personalised manner. In this episode of the segment, Chahal makes us take a closer look at Pandya's all-diamond bling which includes multiple necklaces with bat and ball-shaped pendants and a massive ring, also made of diamonds. Always been an explorer when it comes to fashion and style, Pandya had a sense of pride in his voice while he was describing the precious jewels to Chahal. What's with @hardikpandya7 & his love for Diamonds? 2. The Indian cricket team, led by Virat Kohli left for England in pursuit of their third World Cup title a couple of days ago from the Mumbai International Airport. With a balanced blend of a talented batting order and a fierce bowling attack, the Men in Blue are going into the ICC World Cup 2019 as one of the favourites. The 25-year-old Hardik Pandya comes in as an important part of the roster with his abilities to bowl in the death overs and bat in the middle to lower order for Team India, a segment of the game, they usually suffer in. Ever since making his ODI debut against New Zealand in October 2016, Pandya has quickly climbed the success ladder with the national cricket squad and has seen successful in all formats of the game. So when Pandya shared this picture of his from 2011, it made us realise that time flies and how: From cheering and celebrating India's World Cup triumph in 2011 to representing #TeamIndia in World Cup 2019, it has been a dream come true ðð®ð³ #cwc19 pic.twitter.com/6fDyB29y5r — hardik pandya (@hardikpandya7) May 24, 2019 “From cheering and celebrating India's World Cup triumph in 2011 to representing #TeamIndia in World Cup 2019, it has been a dream come true #cwc19,” tweeted the Indian all-rounder. Honestly, it took us a moment to figure out who amongst the lot Hardik Pandya really was. Eight years ago, the Surat-born would have been 17 years old, cheering with his friends as the MS Dhoni-led Team India lifted that trophy at Wankhede Stadium, the home stadium to the winning side and to the aspiring cricketer. Twitter reacted in disbelief when they saw the younger avatar of Pandya and wished him and the rest of the Indian cricket team good luck for their 2019 World Cup journey: Its all due to your hardwork and struggle ! Success isn't an overnight achievement, it's a result of all the hard work , late nights , early morning and practice sessions , broken hands and injured legs ! Very well deserved. Can't wait for you to be the best. All the very best.â¤ï¸ — Mahima Parmar ð»ð» (@sarcasticmaniac) May 24, 2019 All the best, Pandya!!! World Cup and other records will come to our own way..... So leave all unwanted tensions and pressure... Just play the cricket — ANAND NAIR (@ANANDNA88924229) May 24, 2019 Pandya has played in a total of 45 ODIs in his career during which he has made 731 runs with a superb strike rate of 116.59. 2019 began roughly for the young cricketer due to a recurring lower back injury and a controversial episode of a talk show due to which he was banned from playing the sport for a month. As soon as Pandya returned to the field, he skills and talent took him to the top of his career and an extremely successful season of the Indian Premier League which ended with his team, Mumbai Indians winning their record fourth title, brought back the lost confidence. Here's hoping that Hardik Pandya and the Men in Blue bring home the trophy.
  3. For someone who was in the eye of the storm after his controversial appearance on 'Koffee With Karan', Hardik Pandya didn't just endure one of the toughest phases of his life, but seems to have returned to the field with better focus and rediscovered determination. While his controversial remarks about women on the chat show are still not forgotten, Pandya continues to do what he does best - enthral fans on the field. The ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a notable example of how clinical Pandya has been. A vital cog in the Mumbai Indians (MI) setup, Pandya, despite batting lower down the order, is third in the list of leading run-getters for his side (only behind the likes of Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma). In the bowling department, Pandya has claimed 14 scalps for Mumbai this season. He is currently placed third in the list of leading wicket-takers for Mumbai, only behind Jasprit Bumrah (17) and Lasith Malinga (15). But, despite his consistent performances in the ongoing edition, Pandya continues to be targeted by trolls on social media. View this post on Instagram Mere Bhai Jaisa Koi Hard ich Nahi Hai ð¤ð» . . . . #brotherfromanothermother A post shared by ðð§ð®ð¨ð©ð¡ð ð¿'ð¨ð¤ðªð¯ð (@krystledsouza) on May 4, 2019 at 12:12am PDT In a recent incident, the 25-year-old was attacked by an Instagram user who tried to troll the Indian cricketer with a racist jibe. Television star Krystle D'Souza recently met the Indian all-rounder in a Mumbai pub and clicked a photo with Pandya. Later, she shared their picture on Instagram with the caption: "Mere bhai jaisa koi hard ich nahi hai". While some Instagram users reminded D'Souza of Pandya's sexist comments on 'Koffee With Karan', one individual, in particular, named Sameer, took it too far in his remark on the post. Targeting Pandya, the Instagram user posted: "Kaalu bhai. Aap West Indies team ke world cup squad main select kyun nahi huye?". As soon as the racist jibe appeared in the comments section, a lot of Instagram users and cricket fans slammed the individual for his distasteful remark. Actor Aparshakti Khurana told the user, identified as Sameer: "I think you should not write such comments and definitely not use such language. We all love Hardik because he is a performer. You should rather encourage the Indian team, especially before the World Cup." © Instagram/@hardikpandya93 "That's so well put! People are so mean and obnoxious and just because they are sitting behind a screen typing, they think they can get away with anything! I guess ignorance is bliss in this case! Their words make no difference to his superb performance... BUT thank you," Krystle also commented on Aparshakti's reaction. "thank you so much Apar for supporting Hardik and loving him! People should be against RACISM and support team India and @hardikpandya93 before World Cup and IPL finale! We all love you @hardikpandya93," wrote another user. "I mean he has done so much for India and definitely will do so much more. @sameer_3101 u have no right to say something like this to anyone. U really failed as an Indian citizen," commented zenu_zainabkhan. © Instagram/@krystledsouza "Even I don't like Hardik Pandya.. but I hv my own reasons.. & being dark is NOT one of them.. you hv no right to say this about anyone...??," said another user. Following his brilliant run in the IPL, Pandya will be expected to carry on his fine form into the ICC World Cup where Team India will surely need his services, as they aim to conquer the coveted title for the third time.
  4. Hardik Pandya has a distinctive sense of style that stands out easily. He's not just a strong force to be reckoned with on the cricket field but outside of it too, he's one of the best-dressed sportsmen out there. Hardik Pandya doesn't shy away from experimenting. He is one of the few men who doesn't believe in staying in the confines of the defined and restrictive code of dressing for men. His sense of style is strikingly versatile and not predictable at all. Accessorizing is Hardik's prime weapon. You will never see him step out without his favourite chains and cuffs or shades. This is exactly what sets him apart amongst normies. Recently, he was spotted wearing a Lous Vuitton Paris shirt. Take a look: © Viral Bhayani It is a regular fit shirt with allover Louis Vuitton Paris print. It is tailored in a regular fit from a delicate and lightweight silk fabric. Embroidered with mother-of-pearl buttons add to the luxurious feel, this shirt obviously costs quite a bit. If you check on the website, you will find that this otherwise price-on-request shirt costs a total of $1,470 which comes does to 1,01,999 Rupees. © Louis Vuitton At that price, one can easily afford the rent of a sea-facing 3BHK apartment in South Bandra. Or one can get a mac and air pods with them. Or you could simply buy this shirt. Depends on your priorities, really. There is clearly a hefty price that you need to pay to achieve an avant-garde look.
  5. The Indian cricket team comprises of numerous players who share more than just a good rapport with each other. And then, there are Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul whose bromance probably overshadows the camaraderie shared between other players in the team. From hanging out together on tours to exchanging their jerseys on the field, it's needless to say that the young duo is inseparable. However, the year 2019 started on a disastrous note for the Indian stars. The two cricketers were reprimanded for their demeanour on the popular TV show 'Koffee With Karan'. There was a lot of backlash on social media that in turn led to their respective suspensions at the hands of the Indian cricket board. © Instagram/@hardikpandya93 It was arguably the lowest of lows in their respective careers. But, the two cricketers didn't let it affect their mindset as they won the fans back with spirited performances, upon their return, on the field. While Rahul looks determined in his batting approach for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Pandya, too, appears more focussed while carrying out his responsibilities for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season. Their fall from grace seems to have brought the much-needed maturity into their approach towards the game. And, with the chat show controversy behind them, both Rahul and Pandya are looking to make the most of the opportunities with positive intent - something that was highlighted in the latter's latest Instagram post. View this post on Instagram Brothers for life !!!!! No matter what !!! Love u bro @rahulkl happy birthday. Let's make it our year A post shared by Hardik Pandya (@hardikpandya93) on Apr 17, 2019 at 11:34am PDT On 18th April, Rahul turned 27. From his fans to teammates, everyone poured in heartfelt wishes for the Karnataka batsman. But, the one from Pandya clearly stood out. Taking to Instagram to wish his best mate, Pandya wrote: "Brothers for life !!!!! No matter what !!! Love u bro @rahulkl happy birthday. Let's make it our year". Both Rahul and Pandya have been included in Team India's 15-man squad for the ICC World Cup by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While Rahul will either provide a back-up option as an opener or might just get to play at the much-debated No. 4 slot, Pandya will add teeth to the Indian line-up with his all-around abilities.
  6. Earlier this year, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul had found themselves in a troublesome situation after appearing on popular television show 'Koffee With Karan'. The sexist comments, mainly by Pandya, on the chat show had stirred up a massive controversy which eventually led to the suspensions of the two cricketers, pending an inquiry. While Hardik was majorly responsible (owing to his remarks about women) for the controversy, Rahul also paid the price of being there in the company of the Baroda cricketer. Though the investigation in their conduct on the show is still ongoing, the controversy has pretty much died down following the unconditional apologies from the two cricketers. But, it appears that the cricket fans are still hung on to it. On 10th April, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) were looking to build on their triumph over Mumbai Indians (MI) earlier in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season, when they visited the hallowed Wankhede stadium. A strong top-order batting performance was the recipe of their success at the PCA stadium and it, once again, allowed them to push the hosts on the backfoot early on. MUST WATCH : KL Rahul's majestic ton at Wankhede Full video here â¶ï¸â¶ï¸https://t.co/rCA01DMVxp #MIvKXIP pic.twitter.com/8zSt2Cg5pz — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) April 10, 2019 A 116-run opening stand between Rahul and Chris Gayle got Punjab to a flyer. While Gayle lost his wicket to Krunal Pandya after scoring a 36-ball 63, Rahul continued his carnage and remained unbeaten at 64-ball 100 - his maiden ton in the IPL. The KXIP opener was batting on 69 when Hardik came in to bowl the penultimate over - something that later became the talking point amongst fans on social media. The right-hander extended his arms beautifully and smashed the first ball over extra cover for a six. Hardik tried to outfox Rahul with a slower ball on the next delivery, but the batsman sent it over the in-field for a four. ð¯ð¤ð @klrahul11 #MIvKXIP pic.twitter.com/e21T74PecY — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) April 10, 2019 Put under pressure with early boundaries in the over, Hardik decided to use the short ball on the third delivery, but couldn't stop Rahul from hooking it over fine leg for another six. The fourth delivery, once again, went for a six as Rahul hammered the slower ball back over Hardik's head and over the ropes. Another six on the first and a couple on the fourth delivery of Jasprit Bumrah's final over saw Rahul notching up his first IPL hundred. While Rahul's heroics eventually went in vain as Mumbai defeated Punjab by three wickets, his bashing of Hardik (23 runs in 5 balls) surely got the fans excited on the social media. While some called it revenge for 'Koffee With Karan' scandal, others deemed it a befitting punishment for Hardik. 7. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is credited for many things in cricket. His leadership skills allowed India to scale new heights in international cricket. Dhoni's unorthodox glovework has become a case study for budding wicket-keepers. And, needless to mention, his famous 'helicopter shot' has now become a trademark amongst batsmen. We've seen a few batsmen in the past repeating Dhoni's trademark shot. Whether it was Rashid Khan, Prithvi Shaw or Rishabh Pant, everyone appears to be busy emulating Dhoni on the field. And, Hardik Pandya isn't far behind. This is how Hardik Pandya got the helicopter to land in Wankhede against CSK #IPL2019 #IPLT20 #IPL12 #MI #HardikPandya #CSK #OneFamily (Video Courtesy: Hardik Pandya Instagram Page) pic.twitter.com/ofIfv6qmXk — CricFit (@CricFit) April 3, 2019 The 25-year-old, who had earlier shared a video of himself practicing the iconic stroke, officially joined the bandwagon after successfully pulling off the 'helicopter shot' against a team led by none other Dhoni himself during the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on 3rd April. Twitter/@IPL Coming in to bat in the 17th over, Pandya showed signs of aggression on the first delivery of the penultimate over after he smashed Shardul Thakur for a six over square leg. Then, after Kieron Pollard hammered Bravo for a six on the third delivery, Pandya gave Mumbai a final flourish by scoring 16 runs (6,4 and 6) off the final three balls. Then, he punched a drive through extra cover for a boundary. And, finally, slashing a fuller delivery over third man to finish with a six. A staggering 29 runs came off Bravo's final over with Pandya finishing at an 8-ball 25 alongside Pollard's 7-ball 17. While Pandya played some brilliant strokes, his version of Dhoni's 'helicopter shot' undoubtedly captured the imagination of cricket fans on the social media. 8. Hardik Pandya might have courted controversy on his last TV show appearance. He may have deservedly attracted flak and, later, suspension from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for his comments. And, more recently, he might have been summoned by Indian cricket board's Ombudsman, Justice DK Jain, to be present for the hearings in relation to his controversial remarks about women. But, despite all that, hand this young lad a cricket bat and he'll show you what an absolute nightmare he can be for the opposition bowlers - something that's becoming more of a trend in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season. The 25-year-old began this season with a forgettable duck against Delhi Capitals (DC) who eventually shocked the three-time IPL champions with a 37-run triumph. But, since then, there's been no looking back for Pandya. Twitter/@IPL He smashed a 14-ball 32 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and, then, a 19-ball 31 against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). But, he saved his best for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who bore the brunt of Pandya's willow at the Wankhede stadium on 3rd April. Against RCB, Pandya's blitzkrieg allowed Mumbai to accelerate from an average-looking 145 after 16 overs to a competitive 187 after 20. And, at home against CSK, the swashbuckling right-hander, once again, got a meandering Mumbai innings out of a ditch with an absolute carnage of an innings. Coming out to bat in the 17th over, Hardik swapped places with elder brother Krunal and was looking to give more strike to settled Suryakumar Yadav. He couldn't score a run on his first delivery and then a single on the second got him off strike in the 18th over. But, after Yadav got dismissed on the last delivery of the over, the right-handed batsman knew it was time to unleash the beast. Twitter/@IPL He smashed Shardul Thakur for a towering six over square leg on the first delivery of the penultimate over and followed it up with a single. With Hardik off strike, Kieron Pollard could only manage seven runs off four deliveries including a six on the fifth ball. At 141/5, with just six deliveries to go, both Hardik and Pollard knew they needed to up the ante to help Mumbai post a competitive total. M15: MI vs CSK – Hardik Pandya Six https://t.co/GjfmMNB7va via @ipl — Dixit Bhargav (@dixitbhargav09) April 3, 2019 While Pollard smashed a six on the third delivery (a no-ball) and ran three runs on the legitimate ball (a free-hit), Hardik went hammer and tongs at Dwayne Bravo on the last three balls of the final over. He helicoptered Bravo's yorker into the top tier - something MS Dhoni would have also enjoyed - on the fourth delivery. Then, he punched a drive through extra cover for a boundary. And, finally, slashing a fuller delivery over third man to finish with a six. MUST WATCH: The Pollard-Pandya last over carnage ð®ð® Full video here â¶ï¸https://t.co/7kgiaB3Nsc #MIvCSK pic.twitter.com/pLdU2pyRID — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) April 3, 2019 A staggering 29 runs came off Bravo's final over wherein Hardik was responsible for 17, Pollard scored 10 and two came as extras. From reeling at 119/4 in 17 overs, Mumbai romped their way to 170/5 - thanks to a slambang 8-ball 25 from Hardik and 7-ball 17 from Pollard. In 37 innings since the 2017 edition of the IPL, Hardik has come in to bat with roughly 26 balls remaining in the innings, which is extremely low for a hitter of his ability in a T20 game. While that may raise questions on Mumbai's decision to keep him much down the batting order, it undoubtedly highlights what kind of an influence, in just a few deliveries, this young bloke can have on a game - something Team India would need in the all-important ICC World Cup, slated to begin from 30th May.
  9. For a team that was leading 2-0, Team India was given a reality check as Australia didn't just fight back, but eventually went on to record a historic One-Day International (ODI) series win following a decisive 35-run triumph in the final game in Delhi. Chasing a target of 273 runs, the star-studded Indian team was bowled out for 237 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla. The middle-order woes of the Indian team, once again, came back to haunt the hosts as the likes of Virat Kohli (20), Rishabh Pant (16) and Vijay Shankar (16) and even Ravindra Jadeja (0) failed to aid their side. The ODI series loss undoubtedly left the home fans fuming, especially at a time when Team India is being touted as a top contender for the ICC World Cup in England & Wales. However, at a time when a shocking ODI series loss has dampened the mood in the Indian camp, Hardik Pandya seems to have given the home fans something to cheer for. Guess my inspiration behind this shot? ð ð pic.twitter.com/9mwQ6uNg3g — hardik pandya (@hardikpandya7) March 14, 2019 Taking to Twitter, Pandya shared a video of himself where he is seen batting in nets. And, as he gears up to face a delivery, the Mumbai Indians all-rounder was seen emulating MS Dhoni as he pulled off a brilliant 'Helicopter shot' in the training session. Seeking the fans' opinion, Pandya captioned the video: "Guess my inspiration behind this shot?" While Pandya wasn't part of the recently-concluded ODI series against Australia, the 25-year-old will be eager to make his mark in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he'll play a pivotal role in Mumbai Indians' title challenge this year. 10. After serving a brief suspension over his objectionable comments on a popular chat show, Hardik Pandya has returned to the Indian team with better focus and more determination. Thriving in the role of an allrounder, the Baroda cricketer has adequately aided the Indian team during their recent tour of New Zealand. However, during the third and decisive third Twenty20 International (T20I) at the Seddon Park in Hamilton, the Indian cricketer was seen struggling with the ball. The right-arm seamer was clobbered all around the park, conceding 47 runs in his quota of four overs. He was India's second most expensive bowler after his brother Krunal (0-54) on the day. When it came to his batting, Pandya couldn't do much to rescue his team from a four-run loss. With his side in desperate need of some power-hitting, the 25-year-old was promoted up the order but couldn't make it count as he departed after a 11-ball 21. If his outing in the third T20I got him frustrated, Pandya further became the subject of criticism after a young Indian fan asked him an interesting question while cheering for the visitors in the stands during the second T20I at the Eden Park in Auckland. give this lady a Bharat Ratnaððð#INDvNZ pic.twitter.com/PQA8KtGNFB — Sunil- The cricketer (@1sInto2s) February 8, 2019 Dressed in India's iconic blue jersey, a young girl was seen holding a placard that read: "Pandya Aaj Karke Aaya Kya?" - a dig at Pandya's remarks during his appearance on 'Koffee With Karan'. 11. After overcoming his suspension in lieu of his objectionable comments on 'Koffee With Karan', Hardik Pandya has returned to the Indian cricket team with better focus and more determination. The Indian all-rounder claimed two crucial wickets on his return during the third One-Day International (ODI) against New Zealand, and then followed it up with six wickets and 65 runs in his next four international matches. In the first Twenty20 International (T20I) against New Zealand, Hardik stuttered with the ball, going for 51 runs in four overs - becoming the most expensive Indian bowler in the shortest format against the Kiwis. But, then, Hardik wasn't the only one who got whacked that day, pretty much, every bowler did. View this post on Instagram Some food and lots of laugh ð @mahi7781 @shubmangill @kedarjadhavofficial @krunalpandya_official A post shared by Hardik Pandya (@hardikpandya93) on Feb 5, 2019 at 6:31pm PST Following India's comprehensive defeat at the Westpac stadium, Hardik was seen chilling out with his teammates in a much-needed break. The Baroda cricketer shared a photo of himself alongside his brother Krunal, MS Dhoni, Shubman Gill and Kedar Jadhav. "Some food and lots of laugh ?? @mahi7781 @shubmangill @kedarjadhavofficial @krunalpandya_official," Hardik captioned the picture on Instagram. But, the social media trolls were quick to take a dig at the Indian cricketer and reminded him of his nightmarish episode on 'Koffee With Karan'. While some advised him to order 'coffee', others, once again, slammed him for his sexist remarks on the popular chat show. An Instagram user wrote: "Koffee Lelo Bhai", while another one posted: "Aaj main bina kare aaya". There was another comment: "You're disgusting wonder how people live with an obnoxious sh*t like you", which highlighted that people are still angry at the Indian cricketer. While Hardik might take a while to strike a chord with fans again, he will be required to pull up his socks when India takes on New Zealand in the second T20I - a must-win clash for the visitors to stay alive in the three-match series - at Eden Park in Auckland on 8th February.
  12. Ever since his triumphant return to international cricket after a severe lower-back injury and a suspension levied by the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI), Hardik Pandya has been responding to his haters in the best way possible, i.e; by performing at an exceptional level with the bat and the ball. As a crucial member of the Indian batting order, Pandya, who has been known for his explosive big hits and mounting up big individual totals in very short periods of time, just hit a hat-trick of sixes against New Zealand's Todd Astle in the fifth and final ODI of the series. Pandya achieved this feat for the fifth time in his career. On the other hand, taking at least one wicket in almost every match he has played ever since his comeback against the Kiwis in the third ODI, Pandya has been one of India's ace bowlers through the last couple of weeks. However, the New Zealand team that lost to the Men in Blue 1-4 in the ODI series, looks completely different as the other series in the T20I format began today. Skipper Kane Williamson 's decision to replace opener Martin Guptill with Tim Seifert turned out to be a hit as the righty thrashed the Indian bowling side left, right and centre. The rest of the Kiwi batters followed suit and dominated bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed. Having said that, the bowler who got absolutely dismantled by Seifert and Co. was Indian allrounder, Hardik Pandya. With an absolutely horrible economy rate of 12.75, Pandya turned out to be the most expensive bowler for skipper Rohit Sharma, conceding 51 runs in just 4 overs! Pandya's half a ton with the ball is the worst performance by any Indian bowler against the Kiwis. whenever nz batsmen see hardik pandya#INDvNZ pic.twitter.com/vVz8PrmYux — 㤠㤠㤠㤠㤠㤠㤠ã¤ã¤ 㤠㤠㤠(@firkiii) February 6, 2019 * Hardik Pandya in First T/20 against NZ * #INDvNZ pic.twitter.com/82U9IwMzKX — Hunà¤à¤°à¤° â (@nickhunterr) February 6, 2019 Brilliant innings from Hardik Pandya ( 50 runs) and Khaleel(48) 2 short of 50 hard luck . #NZvIND — #FAN (@Sarcastic__Raj) February 6, 2019 Glad to see Hardik Pandya scored 50.. #INDVSNZ #NZvIND #INDvNZ — Silly me (@Sathish03577169) February 6, 2019
  13. After what is considered to be one of the greatest comebacks in cricket, Hardik Pandya is here, making a statement and hungry for runs and wickets as he returns from a lower-back injury which he suffered in September 2018 and a suspension for the notorious comments he made on the popular talk show 'Koffee with Karan'. In a heroic return against Kane Williamson's New Zealand in the third ODI, Pandya displayed his greatness as a fielder when he evoked his inner Superman to take Williamson's catch at the mid-on to send the skipper back to the locker room. Pandya also proved his brilliance as a bowler against the Kiwis as he scalped two wickets in the third and fifth match while having a moderate economy rate in the fourth. Finally, the allrounder let the elite batsman in him take over when he wreaked havoc all over the New Zealand bowlers including the in-form pacer Trent Boult, as he thrashed their deliveries left and right to go out of the field and into the stands. However, Pandya's highlight came in the 47th over when he drubbed leg-spinner Todd Astle for three consecutive maximums all around Westpac Stadium. Make no mistake, this isn't the first time Pandya has gone 6-6-6 against the bowlers to become the Devil of their dreams. Here are the five times Hardik Pandya hit a hat-trick of sixes in his career: 1. Vs Pakistan - ICC Champions Trophy 2017 (Group Stage) After Yuvraj Singh was called out for an LBW appeal by Hasan Ali, Pandya entered the field to play alongside skipper Virat Kohli and when Pak captain Sarfraz Ahmed chose left-arm spinner Imad Wasim to deliver against Pandya, he knew this one could be big. 2. Vs Pakistan - ICC Champions Trophy 2017 (Final) This time against Pakistan, Pandya reached the pitch in crisis with six wickets falling before the score of 80 for India. In a failed attempt to bring home the Champions trophy, Pandya humbled Pak leg-spinner Shadab Khan with three straight sixes in the 19th over. This performance also led to Pandya making the fastest half-century in a world ODI final. 3. Vs Sri Lanka - Test Series 2017 (3rd Test) In the third of the three-Test series against Sri Lanka, Pandya decided to play the longest format of the game in a hurry and welcome debutant Sri Lankan bowler Malinda Pushpakumara in a grand gesture. Starting the over with back-to-back 4s, the batsman determined to step it up a little with three consecutive sixes after that, while finally ending the over with a dot, making it the most number of runs scored by an Indian in an over. Pushpakumara to Pandya, 26 runs from the over! pic.twitter.com/QeOgWxBvd6 — Cricking (@CricKingApp) August 13, 2017 4. Vs Australia - ODI Series 2017 (1st ODI) Sending Aussie spinner Adam Zampa for three sixes one after another earned Pandya the name of 'Excitement Machine' by Cricket Australia during the first ODI at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Pandya's 83-run innings helped India win the match by 26 runs (DLS method). 5. Vs New Zealand - ODI Series 2019 (5th ODI) And finally, Pandya made a return to his batting ways with a bang against Kane Williamson and the rest of the Kiwis, as he absolutely ripped apart Todd Astle's bowling going 6-6-6 in the 47th over to help Kohli's Indian cricket team win the series 4-1.
  14. In the ever-changing spheres of life, people encounter multiple challenges to eventually realise their elusive dreams. While persistent hardwork and sheer will to succeed are bound to aid the cause, the idea is to keep pushing, one hurdle after another, till you've reached the destination. But, the life of a celebrity is not that easy. While the challenges remain the same, the fact that they are always under media scrutiny with a million eyeballs watching their every move, further make theirs a difficult task. But, even for them, the mantra remains the same: when life pushes you down to the ground, make sure you get back up stronger and more determined. Embodying the same spirit, Hardik Pandya appears to be tackling the demons of his past with complete focus on the only thing that matters to him - cricket. Twitter Suspended for his objectionable remarks on a popular chat show, the Baroda cricketer has marked a sensational return to the field. Making most of his time on the field, the Indian all-rounder delivered impressive figures of 2-45 in 10 overs in the third ODI against New Zealand, reminding everyone that he's better than how he has been perceived lately. But, Pandya wasn't done yet. Continuing his fine form, Pandya, once again, took the centre stage when he came out to bat after Ambati Rayudu's dismissal in the fifth and final ODI against the Kiwis in Wellington on 3rd February. Hat trick sixes by Hardik Pandya pic.twitter.com/kPI1lg7FMP — MS (@premchoprafan) 3 February 2019 Showcasing his hitting abilities, the 25-year-old whacked leggie Todd Astle for three consecutive sixes in the 47th over. He didn't even spare the in-form speedster Trent Boult, deploying a mighty pull to send the ball sailing over the fence for another maximum. Contributing towards his team's cause, Pandya stroked a 22-ball 45 - including two fours and five sixes - to power India to a 252-run total. Three sixes in a row for Pandya. He loves doing this hat-trick against the spinners. Think it's the fourth time he's done that — Mohammad Kaif (@MohammadKaif) 3 February 2019 It was also the fourth time (in ODIs) and fifth (across formats) that Pandya had smashed an opposition bowler for three consecutive sixes across formats. New Zealand's Todd Astle was the fifth bowler to endure Pandya's wrath with the willow, joining the likes of Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Malinda Pushpakumara and Adam Zampa. The only other batsman to achieve the feat four times (in ODIs) in the last two decades is AB de Villiers. For a man who was until recently branded as India's 'Public Enemy No. 1', Pandya - with his blazing knock - had the cricket fans singing his praise on the social media. 15. Swearing by living life king size, Hardik Pandya's beliefs and ideology find expression in his brutal hitting in the middle order and brisk seam bowling. Ever since making his international debut in 2016, Pandya has established his reputation as one of the most effective allrounders in modern-day cricket. A vital cog in the Indian line-up, Pandya's exploits on the field also earned him comparisons with the great Kapil Dev, as many labelled him as the country's next big allrounder. But, for a cricketer who was busy rising through the ranks, Pandya came across his worst nightmare earlier this month when his demeanour on a popular chat show sparked nationwide outrage. There was a lot of backlash, filled with expletives, on social media. Fans and former cricketers all combined in slamming the youngster for his remarks on the chat show. Then, there was a suspension from the Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) that forced him to return from Australia where his teammates were busy etching their name in the history books. © Instagram/hardikpandya93 Falling from grace, Pandya was disappointed, sad and alone. Pandya was cornered and left to face the demons on his own as he shut himself at home. While there is no doubt that it was Pandya's own doing, but, let's be honest, people have committed worse crimes (if his is one) than him. He's just 25 and his remarks, arguably, shouldn't overshadow his capabilities, especially after being punished enough. With his back against the wall, Pandya had a sigh of relief after the Indian cricket board ended his suspension and asked him to join the team in New Zealand. But, none really cared as Pandya's comments about women still echoed on the social media with the fans still not ready to move on from the controversy. Taking the field at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, Pandya had a point to make. He seemed possessed to right his wrong, win back his fans and remind everyone how crucial he is for this Indian team. When you're pushed back against the wall, the only way is forward. And, that's exactly how Pandya saw his return to the Indian team in the 3rd ODI against New Zealand. © AP Unfazed by the criticism levelled against him, the Baroda cricketer delivered impressive figures of 2-45 in his bowling spell and choked the run flow during the middle overs. He bowled 37 dot balls, more than any of his teammates, and conceded just three boundaries as India romped their way to a seven-wicket win that also sealed the five-match series in their favour. If his bowling performance impressed everyone, Pandya's determination to make a strong return was also in full display in his fielding efforts during the game. In fact, the young gun helped his teammate Yuzvendra Chahal in getting a wicket on the back of a sensational catch. Hardik pandya come back super catch pic.twitter.com/Bl83rckpO8 — Kanai Kumar (@KanaiKumar9) January 28, 2019 In the 17th over of New Zealand's innings, skipper Kane Williamson chipped down the track to hit Chahal's delivery towards deep midwicket. While Williamson was looking to whip the ball off his pads through to the boundary ropes, an alert Pandya - who was fielding at midwicket - produced an acrobatic effort, diving to his left and pulling off an absolute blinder, to send the opposition captain packing. That was a fielder's wicket, absolutely stunning catch from Hardik Pandya. #NZvInd — Mohammad Kaif (@MohammadKaif) January 28, 2019 Though he didn't get a chance to showcase his power-hitting with the willow, Pandya, still, had his effect on the game - thanks to his majestic bowling and electric fielding. After enduring all the hate lately, Pandya, with a positive body language, looked determined to make the most of the opportunity and eager to contribute to his team's requirements.
  16. Once again, the Indian bowling side looks to win the game for Virat Kohli as Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami are getting the best of the Kiwi batsmen early. Apart from the veteran in Ross Taylor who stuck around at the crease a lot longer than anyone else, no one, including the openers who disappointed their team yet again, was able to stay on the pitch for more than 15 minutes. However, the greatest highlight of the morning came at the hands of the brand new inclusion in the squad in Hardik Pandya who replaced the 28-year-old Vijay Shankar for the second and third ODIs. In the 17th over, with New Zealand captain Kane Williamson on strike, Chahal bowled a beautiful leg-spin to trap the skipper who, in an attempt to flick it over the long on, missed the spot. Unable to hit the ball with the centre of the bat, it travelled a shorter distance to the silly mid on and into the hands of a flying Hardik Pandya who was literally horizontal in the air during the catch. #teamindia #HardikPandya Awesome catch ... pic.twitter.com/41Ap3cQLJP — shankar more (@We_Indians_) January 28, 2019 What's more is that the Indian pacer rocked the catch with a perfect 'superhero landing' at the end. Dismissing Taylor in the 2nd ODI and taking two more wickets in the third, he is doing good on getting his form back after being benched for nearly four months due to a back injury and a suspension. The Kiwis are all wrapped up for 243 in the third ODI as Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan come out to bat. India lead the league 2-0 in the five-match series.
  17. Rewinding time is not possible, but 'do-overs' are. Not many get an opportunity to right their wrong. But Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have got one where they can win over the fans with a good performance on the field. After being suspended for their misdemeanour on the popular chat show 'Koffee With Karan', the duo finally had some good news as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) lifted their respective bans with immediate effect. In its press release, BCCI claimed: “Hardik Pandya will be sent to New Zealand to join the team at the earliest and KL Rahul will join the India A squad to play the last 3 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against England Lions.” It was a much-needed step, as finalising the Indian Team's squad for the World Cup is the need of the hour. Hardik Pandya being a handy batting allrounder, can provide good depth in the batting unit and can prove to be an asset in the pace department for the team. With Virat Kohli out for the last two ODIs and the T20I series, along with Vijay Shankar not being able to cement his position in the team, the bets of Pandya making the cut for India's playing XI are really high. © Reuters And to be honest, Kohli in his past interviews has always talked about strengthening his pace attack by having three pacers. Pandya's presence would bolster the pace attack, easing the pressure on the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami. On the other hand, getting some game-time with the India A squad, KL Rahul can surely use the opportunity to rediscover his lost form and probably return to the national team just in time for the ICC mega event in England. © Reuters Following their nightmarish experience that lasted a bit longer than one would have expected, these two youngsters can now focus on their game in a bid to reclaim the love and trust of the fans.
  18. A chat show which is supposed to entertain the audience ended up leaving a bitter taste for all the fans of 'Koffee With Karan'. When Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul made their much hyped, much awaited appearance on KJo's show, fans were eager to see some bromance and hear some dressing room secrets of the men in blue. However, the comments and remarks made by cricketer Hardik Pandya were regarded as sexist, misogynistic and plain tasteless in nature. Even though Hardik issued an apology on social media, people were actually done with his thoughts.
  19. While their team has been busy negating the Australians in hostile territory, two Indian cricketers have found themselves in a major crisis situation for their antics off the field. KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya, two of the most exciting young talents in the country, became 'Public Enemy No. 1' following their inappropriate demeanour on the popular chat show 'Koffee With Karan'. Appearing on the show, the Indian cricketers were seen making sexist remarks while objectifying women on national television. Owing to their crass comments, the duo sparked a major outrage on the social media with many suggesting stern action against them. Since then, the cricketers, fans and even the Indian cricket board's Committee of Administrators (CoA) have condemned their remarks on the show. While Pandya and Rahul are currently serving their suspension pending an inquiry into the matter, the two cricketers continue to draw flak for what was arguably one of Indian cricket's lowest of lows. Joining the bandwagon, Mumbai Police recently voiced their disapproval of the demeanour of the two cricketers. 20. Ever since the so-called 'special' episode of 'Koffee With Karan' aired last Sunday, the lives of Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have turned around for all the wrong reasons. Owing to their misogynist and sexist comments on the show, the two Indian cricketers have already faced a lot of backlash as they await fitting punishment for their actions on national TV. After the Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai's recommendation of a two-ODI ban, the duo was charged with misconduct and indiscipline before being suspended from all forms of cricket pending a detailed inquiry into the controversy. The two cricketers were later forced to return home from Australia where the Indian cricket team is currently engrossed with the ODI series. Amid the uproar on social media, Virat Kohli made his stand clear and stated that the comments made by Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul are not are not acceptable and the personal opinions are not the view of the India team. "We, definitely, as the Indian cricket team do not support views like that and that has been communicated. I can definitely say that as the Indian cricket team and responsible cricketers we definitely don't align with those views and those are purely individual views," Kohli had said ahead of India's first ODI against the Aussies at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). BCCL Following Kohli's strong stance on the demeanour of the two cricketers, Harbhajan Singh, too, came out all guns blazing against Pandya and Rahul for tarnishing the image of the game and those who play it. even went on to add that he won't be comfortable having Pandya and Rahul around his wife and daughter. "I will not travel with these two guys in the bus if my daughter or my wife are travelling in the team bus with me. How would they feel? You are looking at women in only one angle and that is not right," Harbhajan told India Today. The veteran Indian spinner also pointed out that the duo's comments have now put every cricketer's reputation on the line. "We don't talk about all this even with our friends and they were talking on public television. Now people might think was Harbhajan Singh like this, was Anil Kumble like this and was Sachin Tendulkar," Harbhajan added. Instagram/@hardikpandya93 "Pandya has been in the team for how long to talk of the team culture in the manner he did. I think this is the way to go," the 38-year-old said, when asked about the suspension. "The BCCI did the right thing, and this is also the way forward. This was expected and I am not surprised," Bhajji said. Following the nation-wide outrage, Pandya and Rahul, in response to the BCCI's showcause notice demanding an explanation from the two cricketers, had regretted their actions and apologised for hurting the sentiments of people. However, the BCCI officials unanimously decided to suspend the Pandya and Rahul while ordering an inquiry into the row.
  21. Ranveer Singh is an incredible actor, no arguing there, but that doesn't make up for the fact that his words and actions have come across as creepy on more than one occasion. Less than a month ago, Deepika Padukone revealed how her first meeting with her now husband was and it was not at all romantic, just creepy as hell. He was flirting with her even when he was dating someone else at that time. Umm, creep alert. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ranveer Singh (@ranveersingh) on Nov 28, 2018 at 6:59am PST Now, comes another revelation about Ranveer that almost everyone had forgotten about, all thanks to Hardik Pandya and his 'Koffee With Karan' controversy. The entire internet came together to call out Hardik and his straight up misogynistic comments on the show, that has now escalated to finding more creepy behaviour by others. Is this like the starting point of all the creeps getting exposed? I sure hope so. BOLLYWOOD IS FULL OF SCUMS pic.twitter.com/nZbEWiTlp8 — babu bisleri (@PUNchayatiii) January 10, 2019 Just see how taken aback Anushka is with that comment and had to shrug it off as playful banter. No Ranveer, you can't say that shit but I guess you don't care about how you should behave, that too on national television. Ranveer didn't even need Hirani to whitewash his image. Bas thoda PDA with deepika and boooom suddenly he become every girls crush. — babu bisleri (@PUNchayatiii) January 10, 2019 Honestly, that's all it took, but it needs to change now. He was a grown ass adult when he made those comments, and they should be unpardonable, but like they were for Hardik Pandya. Umm, I can't believe it got even worse. Usne iss episode mein ye bhi bola tha ki he used to watch anushka sharma dance and comment among friends "ye pakka power yoga karti hogi" — aditi (@aaditrix) January 9, 2019 Education is important, people. @RanveerOfficial is another example of #WhyEducationIsImportant just like #HardikPandya. How can you pass such sexist comment and get away ? A human being is known by his morale and values but not by his work or talent. But still people will glorify them. SAD ! — Subhradeep Hazra (@HazraSubhradeep) January 10, 2019 No, he desreves to get dragged. Pandya gora hota achi English bolta Aur high society hota then all cool. Hypocrisy max. — ARYAN (@unitedaryan) January 10, 2019 She should've. That look on anushka's face though. If she could she would have killed him right there. — Bhagmati (@paharganj2paris) January 10, 2019 Wow. It's funny cause I remember watching this episode and the scripted dynamic between Anushka and Ranveer was him being the playful asshole and her detesting him. He said something like "at least I got to kiss her (Anushka)". Cancel culture is so convenient in Bollywood lol. https://t.co/bmJ6F2C5tp — Arjun Chopra (@ArjunChopra_8) January 10, 2019 Yep, it does. 22. While the Indian cricket team has been enjoying immense success in Australia lately, the past few months have not really been kind to the likes of Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul. While Pandya has been out of the fold due to his injury in September last year, Rahul has faced the wrath of fans and pundits alike for his dismal form Down Under. Following India's historic Test series win, on one hand, where Pandya must have been raring to go in the ODI series after his recovery, Rahul, too, would have been looking to prove his detractors wrong with a fine showing. But, all of those things seemed possible until last Sunday when the duo stirred up a massive controversy with their comments on popular chat show 'Koffee With Karan'. While Rahul was, somewhat, cautious in his choice of words, Pandya boasted of 'conquests' and possessions like a Desperado, with little respect to women. Following a massive uproar on the social media, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was forced into issuing a showcause notice to the duo, expecting a clarification on their conduct within 24 hours. © Instagram/@hardikpandya93 After a tame apology on the social media, Pandya issued another statement where the Baroda cricketer reiterated that he will not repeat the mistake again and will be more cautious in future. But, no one was impressed. Not even the BCCI's Committee of Administrators (CoA). And, to make matters worse for the two cricketers, the CoA chief Vinod Rai has now recommended a two-ODI ban on the duo. Calling the comments by Pandya and Rahul "very crass", the CoA chief wrote an email to CEO Rahul Johri. "I have seen the remarks made by these two players on the show in print today. Very crass. No apology can cover it. I had asked Diana (CoA member Diana Edulji) to suggest penalty because I had not seen the clip. I think we need to give both of them a two-match suspension. If Diana agrees, Rahul please draft an appropriate instruction and issue today as their explanations have come in. Separately, please prepare an advisory to all BCCI contracted players and support staff," Rai claimed in the email. "I am not convinced with Hardik's explanation and I have recommended a two-match ban for both players. However the final decision will be taken once Diana gives her go ahead," Rai told PTI. On the other hand, Edulji has also referred the matter to the BCCI's legal cell. "Diana has sought legal opinion whether the duo can be banned. So, obviously a decision will be taken once she gives her nod. As far as I am concerned, the comments were crass, in bad taste and unacceptable," Rai said. © Instagram "The players must be immediately suspended pending a proper inquiry and must be allowed to join the team (if selected) only once they have gone through a proper sensitisation in addition to serving a ban, if imposed upon them," he said. "In any case the entire team and support staff must go through a sensitisation process. The CEO may join them in the sensitisation as well as recommended by Ms. Veena Gowda, Advocate," he added. While the ban is yet to be sanctioned by the BCCI, it has already got the social media buzzing with all sorts of reactions from the cricket fans across the country. Ban them for life and give them tv ðº rights because that's what they are good at,our cricketers use fame to trick ladies and think they are models rather than sports man ,as I said before in England you do not see any sport personalities on tvs or on social media's — Harry (@HarryJethw) January 10, 2019 statements damaging to the game . its important to counsel ,sensitise them before allowing them to wear India colours. — Dr chavez (@Ramesh16276338) January 10, 2019 Minimum 5 match ban.. Pandya wasn't going to play anyway so what sort of lesson he will learn? — Rahul Sharma (@OneRahul_Sharma) January 10, 2019 One person who goes scot free and laughing is @karanjohor. The lads were stupid to fall prey to enticement. Lot to learn from Sachin and Dravid. — Ajit Coelho (@ajitcoelho) January 10, 2019 When Too much money comes your way in too little time and you ain't got enough maturity to deal with it, this is the shit that happens. Both should be banned for IPL 2019 tabhi gosh thikane aayega. And Karan Johan's mindless show should be taken off air forthwith — Anand Broto Bose (@andyboser) January 10, 2019 Net net, both will enjoy an extended vacation in Australia and return, I would vote for a year long ban, that way they would reflect on what they said and what it means to be a role model! — Srikanth Sundararaja (@SundarSrik) January 10, 2019 @BCCI #HardikPandya should be banned for 3 months atleast n should learn to respect women. #KLRahul should also be banned for 6 months. — ankit pandey (@AnkitkrPandey) January 10, 2019 #HardikPandya can sleep with as many women as he wants as long as its consensual Having said that he needs to learn respect and let go of this male chauvinism. As for KL Rahul, if he does not call out such behaviour he too is a part of the problem. But a ban? Nope. — Mriga (@jst_a_scribbler) January 10, 2019 @karanjohar got what he wanted, trp! It's not like this was a live show, kjo would have known how the responses will harm and offend..Def his reputation managers warned him... Obviously he knew it's great noise creator! Why wasn't this reshot? #HardikPandya #KoffeeWithCricketers — Reshma (@reshmabudhia) January 10, 2019 The controversy created by #HardikPandya and #KLRahul clearly asserts the importance of basic education no matter what field one pursues their career in. @BCCI and other councils should probably include a soft skills training and public courtesy course compulsory for all players. — Varun Kulkarni (@vk130795) January 10, 2019
  23. In the ever-competitive world of cricket, winning has now become the most important thing, nullifying all the other elements that once made us believe it was indeed a gentleman's game. It doesn't matter how you win or what you do to come out on top, all that we, sadly, care for today is trophies, rankings and records galore. Similarly, Indian cricket, too, has witnessed a major overhaul over the years. The technical perfection and humility of Rahul Dravid or the sheer politeness of Sachin Tendulkar are now a thing of the past as the MS Dhoni era focused on athleticism, run-making and electric fielding displays. But, while all those things seemed like the need of the hour in the ever-changing arena of international cricket, what followed later has surely washed away everything we once knew about the game. Under the tutelage of Virat Kohli, Indian cricket team might have scaled new heights across formats, but there has been a terrifying change in their approach towards the game. From flipping a bird to the crowd in stands, engaging in verbal volleys to even allegedly getting rid of their coach, Kohli has shown a whole new side of the sport that earlier took a backseat, at least in Indian cricket. While some had their concerns with the new culture in Team India, not many cared owing to the massive success of Kohli and his team. © Instagram/@hardikpandya93 Unfortunately, the patience of Indian cricket fans reached its saturation point when Hardik Pandya, a youngster who's still looking to make his mark, resonated the questionable devil-may-care attitude - incorporated by Team India - in his tone-deaf remarks about women on a popular chat show. From branding women like trophies to shamefully boasting of his 'conquests', Pandya was blatantly misogynistic and sexist, needless to say irresponsible, in his remarks about the other *** on national television. But, he wasn't done yet. If his boorish behaviour on the chat show left the viewers shell-shocked, Pandya's mockery of an apology which lacked remorse and ownership of his actions further infuriated the cricket fans. The 25-year-old claimed: "I got a bit carried away with the nature of the show". Like, seriously, Mr Hard (as he likes to call himself)? If the nature of a show can allow sportspersons or celebrities - looked upon as a source of inspiration and motivation by many - to get carried away to an extent where they lose their grip on the sense of responsibility, the wiser call would be, to opt out of such shows. But, even if the chat show had such a nature (as claimed by Pandya), the Baroda cricketer could or should have stayed true to the ethics and conduct of everything that Indian cricket represents and stands for. Rahul Dravid - The Bakra "harassment" episode. No stains on The Wall.ð pic.twitter.com/qKFHpf2aA2 — Vinay (@SemperFiUtd) October 14, 2018 The biggest example is Dravid who once appeared on a popular prank show and still came out as the gentleman we have come to cherish over the years. Appearing on MTV Bakra, the age when the channel had one too many Cyrus', Dravid was tested to his limits amid an annoying environment, aimed at extracting a fiery response from a generally calm and composed cricketer. But, 'The Wall' showcased immense patience that was often reflected in his tireless innings for India. Now, when you compare Dravid's situation with Pandya's, anyone with a sane mind would agree that the former, in accordance to the format of the show, was forced to endure a more severe and testing environment than the latter. But, unlike Pandya, Dravid neither got carried away, nor he lost his sense of responsibility. The former Indian cricketer could have easily blasted the woman (in the video) with expletives or harsh words, but he handled it like a true gentleman. Pandya was sitting comfortably, with all his bling, on a couch with his teammate. Even if the host was provoking him with controversial questions, the Indian cricketer could have, a choice he clearly had at that time, dodged it or answered differently. But, objectifying women and, boasting of 'conquests' and possessions like a Desperado on national TV was definitely not how we expect our sportspersons to act. © BCCL Back in 2016, during India A's tour of Australia, Pandya was all praise for Dravid, claiming: "For me, everything changed after my tour of Australia with the India A team. It is a tour that transformed me as a cricketer. I can't but thank Rahul Dravid enough for his contribution. I understood that there is a mental aspect about the game that needs to be worked upon. He (Dravid) made me mentally stronger”. For a man who once claimed that he learned the mental aspect of the game from one of the greats, Pandya, now, needs to learn and instil the mentality of a sportsperson from Dravid. It's one thing to mould yourself with time to continuously grow and compete at the highest level, but, if not anything else, Pandya and the current crop of Indian cricketers can surely learn how to behave and act responsibly from the former greats like Dravid.
  24. Sports mirror the society and just like any other aspect of culture, it can act as a mechanism for both societal and political change in a country. Sports provide us with an opportunity to cheer and boo; it motivates and deflates us, and it has the capability to bring joy and sorrow in our lives. Thus, it plays an important role in shaping, modifying, and creating a culture while affecting the lives of millions of its fans. The biggest example is a country like India, where the population is so obsessed with cricket that whether it's a family dinner or a casual outing with friends, no conversation is complete without mentioning the gentleman's game. Over the years, we have been celebrating the geniuses of numerous cricketing stars who left a lasting impression in our lives with their exemplary performances. The likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid, to name a few, have etched their name in the history books for their respective feats in the cricketing world. But, as much as their skills, it was also the demeanour of the Indian cricket team of that generation that garnered respect and admiration from fans. As all good things, must come to an end, so did the careers of the gentlemen of Indian cricket. And, what followed later was an all-out aggressive approach incorporated by the new-age Team India under the leadership of Virat Kohli. And, to be honest, there's nothing wrong with playing a sport with a bit of aggression. The Australians have thrived on it for years which played a pivotal role in their dominance in international cricket. © AP But, how much is too much? A question that has been lingering in the back of the minds of many fans and pundits before being nullified with positive results raked in by Kohli & Co. Flaunting their tattooed arms, funky hairdos and chiselled physiques, the new generation of the Indian cricket team has surely set new standards, beginning a new culture for their fans to follow. And, even if many still feel that those things might be a distraction, the fact is, as long as the on-field performances of these cricketers are not getting affected by their lifestyle choices, they're probably doing fine. However, the notion, many dreaded for, finally became a reality when Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul came on the recent episode of the popular show 'Koffee With Karan' where misogyny and sexism reached a whole new level, probably for the first time (involving cricketers) on national television. More than Rahul, it was Pandya who appeared boorish in his remarks aimed at women. Among the multiple things that left viewers shell-shocked, Pandya did his reputation no favour by claiming: "I like to watch and observe how they (women) move in the club. I'm little from the Black side, so I need to see how they move". The Baroda cricketer was either painstakingly honest (which further makes us question his character) or downright stupid in objectifying women on national TV while answering to Karan Johar's query as to why he doesn't ask women their names in the club. © Instagram/@hardikpandya93 If his personal opinion made the viewers cringe, Pandya further rattled everyone by claiming: “When I lost my virginity, I came home and said, 'Main karke aya hai aaj (I had *** today)'". And, then, what followed later, "At a party, my parents asked me 'acha tera wala (women) kaun sa hai (who is your interest here?)' so I said 'yeh, yeh, yeh (pointing out women)' and they were like 'waah proud of you beta',” made us question his upbringing. I mean, no matter how accepting or understanding your parents are, I'd like to believe that no parent would tell their kids that they are proud of them, especially when they are interested in, not one, but multiple partners. Someone should have told the immature cricketer that the women are neither trophies nor are they to be brandished as possessions. As soon as the show was aired, it came as no surprise to see cricket fans from every corner of the country coming out all guns blazing against Pandya on the social media. And, it took Pandya four days to realise that he had been insensitive in his comments on the chat show. We knew a comment or clarification was around the corner, but what the Indian cricketer wrote on the social media was not even a responsible statement, let alone an apt apology. pic.twitter.com/O0UlpFm43o — hardik pandya (@hardikpandya7) January 9, 2019 "After reflecting on my comments on Koffee With Karan, I would like to apologise to everyone concerned who I may have hurt in any way. Honestly, I got a bit carried away with the nature of the show. In no way did I mean to disrespect or hurt anyone's sentiments. Respect," Pandya wrote on Twitter following the backlash over his remarks. He had already tarnished his image as a youth icon with his comments on the show, but the Indian cricketer still had a chance to make it right with his apology. But, sadly, the boorish attitude that irked the fans after watching him on the chat show, once again reflected in his so-called apology, that lacked responsibility on his part and acknowledgement of his mistake. His casual approach in the apology, where he conveniently claims to have gotten carried away with the nature of the show, makes for nothing more than just shifting the blame rather than owning up to his actions. If someone has followed Pandya's career so far, they'd agree that the youngster struck a chord with cricket fans for rising through the ranks on the back of relentless life struggles. From overcoming financial hardships to stepping up for his family at an early age, Pandya has been an embodiment of success, derived through hard work and perseverance. Even when he stepped up his style quotient (no matter how flamboyant it may seem), Pandya, still, was looked upon as a household boy who was finally getting his due following his persistent efforts. © Instagram/@hardikpandya93 But, sadly, all those things mean little to the fans now, thanks to his distasteful, misogynist and sexist comments on the show and an irresponsible apology which followed later. Sounding like Kim Kardashian of the cricket world, Pandya boasted of 'conquests' and possessions like a Desperado, unlike a cricketer and definitely not in sync with a youth icon. For someone who was introduced by Karan Johar as 'tomorrow's hopeful future' on his show, the 25-year-old still has a long way to go to fit that bill. And, if we cannot expect a cricketer like Pandya to be more responsible in his demeanour off the field, then all the 'Me Too' campaigns and women empowerment drives would mean nothing in our society.
  25. You need to be watchful of your thoughts when you're alone, and of your words when you're in public. Don't know about the first one, but our sportspersons have certainly been dismissive of the latter of late. Earlier, while Indian skipper Virat Kohli received flak for his 'Quit India' remark, now it's Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya's turn to justify his sexist comments on Karan Johar's popular show 'Koffee With Karan', that has cricket fans up in arms. The episode which got aired earlier this Sunday, also featured Indian batsman KL Rahul, but it's Pandya's image that's under a hell lot of scrutiny, which has now led to the BCCI being involved. The Indian cricket board has issued a 'show cause' notice to both the cricketers, demanding an explanation in the next 24 hours, for their comments made on the show. Mistakes are always forgivable if one has the courage to admit them, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Pandya's so-called plea for forgiveness on Twitter, that he posted earlier today, was more of a joke than an apology as he clearly made an unconvincing excuse of 'getting carried away with the nature of the show.' It's possible that BCCI might make an unprecedented call of barring all Indian cricketers from appearing on 'non-cricketing' shows. pic.twitter.com/O0UlpFm43o — hardik pandya (@hardikpandya7) January 9, 2019 Getting back to Pandya's rant, the Baroda cricketer boasted about his flings with multiple women and how his family was proud of him for the same. With this, he also displayed his interest in how he likes to “watch and observe how they (women) move.” The moment the show got aired, Pandya attracted immense criticism by people from all over the country over his irresponsible remarks. No matter how unfiltered Hardik Pandya might be, this interview and its consequences will make him think twice before speaking the next time he is in the spotlight. BCCI has now granted 24 hours to both Rahul and Pandya to give clarification over their comments while on the 'Koffee couch'. Post which, suitable actions would be taken by the governing body. While the Indian cricket team is currently gearing up for the ODI series against Australia, the ongoing controversy was the last thing the likes of Pandya and Rahul, who are also in the squad, would have expected.
