  1. With 12 required off the last two balls against Punjab Kings, Rahul Tewatia snatched the victory from the jaws of defeat, smashing two maximums to script the most memorable victory for new franchise Gujarat Titans. Hardik Pandya’s men were cruising at one stage but the PBKS bowlers, especially Arshdeep Singh and Kagiso Rabada, produced a bowling masterclass to pull things back for their outfit. View this post on Instagram With 19 needed in the last over, PBKS captain Mayank Agarwal chose the West Indies all-rounder Odean Smith to deliver the last six balls. The West Indies star did a brilliant job on the first four balls, conceding only seven runs. From fans to experts, everybody thought that the victory was well within Punjab’s grasp but Rahul Tewatia proved to be their nemesis once again. The Haryana all-rounder, who became a household name after his heroics against PBKS at Sharjah, dispatched the last two balls over the fence to hand GT an improbable victory – completing their hat-trick of wins. View this post on Instagram Just to give you a little context, before Tewatia only one player had smashed cleared the ropes twice with 12 required to win off the last two deliveries. This player was none other than former CSK captain and one of the most explosive batters of this generation MS Dhoni. However, for some reason, instead of celebrating Tewatia’s knock, some of the blind haters started trolling the 40-year-old legendary cricketer by making fun of his finishing skills. Dhoni’s supporters also didn’t sit quietly and hit back at the trolls for disrespecting a player who has won many matches single-handedly for over a decade, both at the international level and in the IPL. Thala scored 23 in the last over when tewatiya was nowhere in his career — Om Dhende (@om_dhende_29) April 8, 2022Hope that fluke alos happened to rcb so that they would have trophy unlike CSK — Arpit Adlakha (@AmbaniSuspended) April 8, 2022He is 41 and at the brink of retirement from IPL. Don't know about you but his fans are happy that he is atleast even playing. — Skydrow (@Akshdee89977744) April 8, 2022Tewatia >>>>> Dhoni — chandan (@CandidBihari) April 8, 2022So now can we do this ? Tewatia >= Dhoni — chandan (@CandidBihari) April 8, 2022 Tewatia is worthy of every praise after what he did on the night against PBKS. If not for his two lusty blows, Titans would have definitely suffered their first defeat of IPL 2022. While celebrating one player’s achievement, it doesn’t mean people have to pull someone else down. It’s true that Dhoni is not the same player he once was but it’s also true that during his peak there was no better finisher in world cricket than him. View this post on Instagram Be it Tewatia or Dinesh Karthik or Ayush Badoni, whenever a batter finishes the game for his side, he is always compared to Dhoni because he is considered to be the benchmark and that tells you everything about how good he was in his prime. We all know Dhoni is in the twilight phase of his career and rather than comparing him to the younger lot, we all must enjoy his remaining time on the field. View the full article
  2. The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will see some major changes to the playing conditions. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced several new rules that will have a direct impact on the game. All these new rules have received mixed reactions from the supporters. Some have found immediate acceptance, like the increased number of reviews per innings, while others, like deciding the winners if Super Over isn’t possible, have led to a huge uproar on social media. © Twitter IPL One of the welcome changes is increasing the number of DRS for each innings. Till last year, each team was awarded one unsuccessful DRS in each innings but the limit has been increased to two. That was a no ball . Umpiring has been pathentic . #ipl2021 #DCvsCSK pic.twitter.com/40iXZF84wL — Zombie (@Crictakies) October 4, 2021 What prompted this change was the terrible umpiring decisions that were made throughout the last season. There were instances where some high-profile players were seen getting in a heated argument with the umpires after they had made some poor on-field calls. That's a hilarious pieces of tv umpiring man :( #RCBvsPBKS pic.twitter.com/3k6ufOkBPl — Arjun SKY (@Arjun_Skyfan) October 3, 2021 Keeping that in mind, the IPL Governing Council has approved one extra DRS for each innings so that howlers like last season can be brought down as much as possible. “In each innings, the number of reviews have been increased from one to two,” the BCCI said in its communique sent to the franchises as reported by Cricbuzz. Most fans hailed the decision but still there were some people who weren’t pleased about it. Their argument being that it would hand some teams an unfair advantage over the others. Being a wicket-keeper MS Dhoni, has a better success ratio than most of his counterparts which is why some opposition fans began their rant saying it would leave others at grave disadvantage. But it’s not Dhoni’s fault that he is so good at making the right decisions. It’s an amalgamation of his vast experience and brilliant understanding of the game and you can’t call it an unfair advantage. View the full article
  3. On Saturday at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in Mohali, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja explained why India declared against Sri Lanka in the first innings of the first Test. On Day 2, Jadeja continued his power-hitting binge against Sri Lanka, adding to his overnight total of 45 while batting with spin bowling partner Ravichandran Ashwin. Suranga Lakmal, the Sri Lankan pace, sent Ashwin back to the dugout after the duo put up 130 runs for India's seventh wicket. Jadeja, on the other hand, continued his batting skills by toying with the Sri Lankan bowlers and putting them through their paces for a laugh. On the second occasion in the red-ball format, he reached the three-figure mark with a single off Lasith Embuldeniya's over. View this post on Instagram To illustrate how hungry he was to score more runs, Jadeja smoked a six and a pair of boundaries to Embuldeniya in an over just after achieving his century. With a six to Dhananjaya de Silva over mid-off, Jadeja achieved 150 for the first time, although he didn't show off his sword celebration this time. When Indian skipper Rohit Sharma concluded the innings, Jadeja was undefeated on 175 and the team's scoreboard was gleaming with a total of 574/8. The move by Rohit and head coach Rahul Dravid to prevent him from scoring his first double-ton angered Indian supporters. #jadeja deserve double century. In the post-match conference, the all-rounder acknowledged that there was he was receiving a message from inside, and he was also sending a few messages back to Sharma (through reserve player Kuldeep Yadav). When Jadeja was batting, the balls began to take spin and bounced differently. So he warned them that the pitch was playing games with them and that the Indian spinners may force them (Sri Lanka) to bat. Ravindra Jadeja said, "I told the team for declaration because Sri Lankan players were already tired and it was our chance to dismiss them". — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) March 5, 2022 He further clarified that because the Lankan Lions had been on the field for about two days and were exhausted, it wouldn't have been simple for them to come out and start shooting and stay on the field longer. So Team India's strategy was to score fast and declare as soon as possible. After the unbeaten batter clarified the decision-making process that led to Rohit Sharma declaring the first innings mere 25 runs before Jadeja could complete his double century, his fans went on Twitter to call out every hater who felt that the skipper prevented Jadeja from reaching the milestone intentionally. 4. With the kind of innings that Ishan Kishan played in the first T20I against the touring Sri Lankan side, his perception has taken an absolute U-turn in the eyes of the critics so much so that some of them have even started placing him ahead of the former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the shortest format of the game. Kishan, who was bought by the Mumbai Indians for a whopping Rs. 15.25 crore during the IPL 2022 mega auction, was absolutely brilliant as the opening batter for the Men in Blue. During his time in the middle, he shared 89 runs in just 56 deliveries. His century was missed out when he gave away a huge top-edge on a pull-short and was caught by Janith Liyanage at square leg. View this post on Instagram Nonetheless, Kishan’s work on the pitch was good enough to help skipper Rohit Sharma’s side make a hefty total of 199-runs which proved too much for the Lankan Lions to chase within 20 overs. Kishan was also awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ aware at the end of the evening for putting on a show with his blade. It was later revealed to the cricketing community that the massive innings played by the 23-year old made him the owner of a new world record. His 89-run knock is now the highest individual score by any Indian wicketkeeper batter in the shortest format of the game that’s played at an international level. Ishan Kishan 89 runs - highest individual score by an Indian wicket-keeper in T20I. — Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) February 24, 2022 In the past and the present, Team India has produced some brilliant hitters who have also donned the role of the man behind the stumps. Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rishabh Pant are the leading names on the list in terms of heritage and their impact on the squad. Even KL Rahul, who acted as the squad’s glovesman a couple of years ago when Pant had suffered a head concussion, is an excellent player of this format. However, in terms of the number of haters each of these players have, Dhoni once again takes the top spot and it did not take his non-believers to simply start comparing his batting record with Kishan’s achievements from the first match against Sri Lanka. Dhobi has set such low standards in T2OI as wk batsman that everytime a wk batman comes to bat, a new record is created. — Alpha (@AlphaMaleKohli) February 24, 2022MS has 2 in 98. Surely an upgrade. — Eklavya (@IStanTheGOAT_18) February 24, 2022Dhoni would have easily scored a hundred if he opened against this kind of sl attack — Vikram (@Abhimanyu86156) February 24, 2022Best wicketkeeper batsman from jharkhand — Abhishek (@be_mewadi) February 24, 2022The narrative was that despite 98 international matches and batting in 85 of them, Dhoni’s highest score was just 56 runs, which was toppled by a huge margin by Kishan, who is just 8-matches old. While there are loads of issues with such comparisons, the biggest problem here is that while Kishan is a top-order batter and Dhoni was often played the role of the finisher. The southpaw generally opens the Indian batting order and therefore has more balls and greater freedom to take his time and go for bigger shots. Dhoni, on the other hand, never had the luxury of doing the same. His role was either to start swinging for the fences as he entered the ground to help his side chase down a total or to play a slow and sensible innings, act as the anchor that guides the innings in trouble and ensure to put enough runs on the board. 5. India’s white-ball skipper Rohit Sharma has often been mocked for his apparently fragile fitness. But the Mumbai-born has time and again shut all his critics down through his sheer brilliance in the field. The latest example of his outstanding athleticism was seen during the first T20I between India and the West Indies in Kolkata. Apart from impressing through his smart bowling changes and field placements, Rohit also led by example in the field. The Indian captain’s acrobatic effort helped Indian cap off the West Indies innings at 157/7 in 20 overs. With it being the final ball of their innings, Smith wanted to make it count but couldn’t generate enough power due to the drop in pace. All he could do was loft it towards the vacant mid-off region. It was a great sight to watch, not just for the spectators but also for Suryakumar Yadav who charged in from the long-off fence but held his run back at the last moment to avoid the collision. The expression on his face was enough to tell how difficult of a grab that was and how easy the Indian captain made it look. Rohit’s knock was studded with a total of seven boundaries including three hits over the fence, as he clobbered 40 off just 19 balls. 7. India U19 captain Yash Dhull shared Virat Kohli's advice for the squad ahead of the team's final against England at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Saturday. Having been a U-19 world cup winning skipper in his youth, his tips boosted the team’s squad’s morale, according to Dhull. View this post on Instagram Known for winning the most number of U19 World Cup titles in the history of international cricket, the Boys in Blue are on the lookout for their fifth championship, this time around against the Young Lions of England. Talking about the approach that Kohli asked Dhull and his teammates to take during the final, here’s what the young cricketer had to say: "Virat Kohli gave us his best wishes for the final. We got confidence from that, the morale increases when a senior player like him talks to you. He told us how we can execute our plans and he told us about the basics of the game, it was a nice interaction with him," Kohli's shared with the players following India's semi-final victory against Australia, Dhull told ANI. View this post on Instagram And even though Kohli’s message to his successors was that of motivation, encouragement and sportsmanship, some of the people belonging to his blindly hating cult of “cricket fans” managed to point out the negatives and pressed upon it until getting some reaction from the rest of the world. Till the last moment and till the time, I got the trophy in my hand, everyone was hoping that I lose. However, Ganpati bappa and my followers had other plans. I will always believe that jiske saath koi nahi hota uske saath khuda hota hai.” © Tejasswi Prakash Instagram She further added, “I believe that I should trust the format of the show and desh ki janta ka pyaar that I am receiving. It doesn’t look fake to me. It is evident that I received more votes. Those doubting this season’s result should cry foul over the previous seasons’ results, too. Also, why should I expect anyone to appreciate my victory? My family and I should be happy that I won and my fans should be happy that their hard work paid off. Why should my haters be happy that I won? My haters will obviously be sad about my victory. They have the right to be sad. Not everyone is going to love me. I am not an ice cream…I am human.” During her stint on the show, she courted controversy by addressing fellow contestant Shamita Shetty as “Aunty”. Post that, Tejasswi was criticised on social media. Clearing the air, she said, “I didn’t call her aunty…. it was more like slang. Why would I do that to another woman? She doesn’t even look like an aunty. She is so hot. I don’t know about the boys, but I checked her out. I would take tips from her on diet and workout regime.” Tejasswi also added that she apologised to Shamita multiple times. 9. After winning the first match of the India-South Africa Test series on foreign soil, it did not take long for the Men in Blue to lose their lead as the Proteas led by their skipper Dean Elgar managed to even out the series 1-1 but chasing down 240 runs on Day 4 of 5. Due to variable bounce and a completely bowler-friendly pitch, both sides found it difficult to score big runs in the first inning. For India, the second inning was kept afloat by Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane whereas, for the hosts, it was their skipper, who once again held the fort all by himself and remained unbeaten while guiding his side to victory with a day to spare. Rahul Dravid (in Press) said "Virat Kohli has been practicing in nets, he has been running - I think he will be fine - he should be good for the third Test". — Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) January 6, 2022 Under such circumstances, with the series tied and only one match to go, all eyes will be on the main captain of India in the longest format of the game and his road to recovery after he was ruled out of the penultimate match with a last-minute upper back spasm. The newly-appointed head coach of the Indian cricket team, Rahul Dravid opened up about at what point is Kohli right now in terms of being cleared for the clash at Cape Town. According to the Indian legend, the Indian leader is been active and practicing in the nets. 10. India head coach Rahul Dravid has lavished praise on Test skipper Virat Kohli for the way he conducted himself and kept the team’s morale high despite “a lot of noise” after his alleged fallout with the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly. “I know there's been a lot of noise on other issues a little bit, outside of the group, even leading into this Test match, but honestly, in terms of keeping the morale high, it's not been very difficult because, to be honest, it's been led by the skipper himself,” Dravid said during the virtual press conference on the eve of the second Test against South Africa in Johannesburg. Kohli has been in the headlines for various off-field controversies off late. I felt we were in a really good space leading into the first Test match, and a lot of that was led by Virat and his leadership really came to the fore. In reality, things have been completely opposite. Both the batting greats admire each other immensely and one can already see the ‘special bond’ that they have formed already. As fans of the Indian cricket team we just hope that they both continue to help each other on and off the field and take Indian cricket to new heights. View the full article

  12. At the moment, when it comes to an elite-level captain in the world of international cricket, only a few names have the honour of being compared to New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson. He has time and again proven to lead a surprisingly short-handed team to glorious moments and has even stepped up to the occasion as a batter whenever required. Reaching the 2019 World Cup final and losing to England on a crappy ICC rule, and falling short of just a few runs in their attempt to win the T20 World Cup in 2021, Williamson’s greatest achievement as a team captain so far has been winning the World Test Championship after two years of battling some of the finest cricketing squads in the world. For instance, during the T20 World Cup final, Williamson lit up the Dubai International Stadium with an 85-run innings off just 48 deliveries to give their team a much-needed boost after the top-order had crumpled. Yet another brilliant aspect of his game and leadership is the ability to stay calm under intense situations. Even if New Zealand are losing by a big margin, Williamson never shows concern, worry or rage, even if he’s fuming at the back of his head. It is only natural that you do. But when you are the leader, it is important you give the impression to your teammates that you are in control. If they see you calm it helps to a degree. If a bowler isn’t bowling at his best, it is my job as captain to have a silent word and give him the confidence and support. If I get flustered and show anxiety, it can rub off on him and that’s not good for the team,” he told The Economic Times about why he can’t afford to show emotions as a captain. 13. A lot has happened over the weekend, especially with regards to the Indian cricket team and the ‘former’ captain of the Men in Blue in the T20I format of the game, Virat Kohli, who ended his reign on a rather disappointing note as India got knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2021 in the Super 12 round. However, shortly after India’s end to the World Cup campaign following their irrelevant win against Namibia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed their squad for the upcoming bilateral series between India and New Zealand on home soil, in the second half of November. View this post on Instagram Leading the Indian squad as the captain Rohit Sharma will have some rather interesting and upcoming names to command against the Black Caps, including CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, KKR hitter Venkatesh Iyer and an in-form Yuzvendra Chahal alongside the dark horse of white-ball cricket in India, Ravichandran Ashwin. However, the biggest name of them all, Virat Kohli was nowhere to be found in the squad and it was later declared that the former skipper was given some time off the field to unwind after a disappointing end to his tenure as the team leader following the World Cup debacle. This was enough ammunition for the haters of the elite Indian batter to start throwing shade on his career and begging the Indian cricket board to make him sit out of the squad for the rest of his days. 14. Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut is one person that is always pretty much in the news, be it for her amazing acting talent or for her infamous habit of having a public spat with anyone and everyone. The 34-year-old actress started young in Bollywood and despite coming from a non-filmy background made a big name for herself by doing a wide range of films that were both successful at the box office and critically acclaimed. However, despite her success, constant controversies and tiffs with fellow actors and personalities from the Bollywood film industry meant that she was both in and out of Bollywood just in terms of belongingness. © Instagram/Kangana Ranaut It's fair to say that most in Bollywood would not consider her as part of what they think is their industry, mainly because of how vocal she can be, for the good and for bad reasons. I shunned fairness products, item numbers, working in movies with popular male leads, and with production houses. I made more enemies than I made money." "People often ask me what do I get by doing all this? Why do I do all this? This is not your job. So this award is my answer to them. 15. Leading a country in a major tournament is a dream that most players grow up wishing for but only a handful of them come to fruition. Virat Kohli has been one of the most successful Indian captains of all-time but despite that he always faces criticism for failing to win major ICC tournaments. © Reuters Unlike most players, who can get away by focusing on their individual performance, a player like Kohli has to think about many other things besides his own performance. The captaincy workload does take a toll on a player’s body over the years and things become even more difficult when runs are not flowing off your bat like they once used to. Playing as a specialist batter if you are not scoring runs, then questions are asked whether you deserve a place in the team. No matter how well you’re doing as a leader of the group, your individual performance always counts, especially for fans who feel you’re wasting one spot on the team sheet. © Twitter ICC England skipper Eoin Morgan is going through a lean patch and as it has become a trend there fans are suggesting that he should drop himself from the starting line-up if his poor form continues as it will harm the team's chances of going all the way in the tournament. Even Morgan acknowledges that his dry run is a big cause of concern for the team, which won the tournament in 2010 and many believe is a strong contender to win the competition this year as well. © Twitter Eoin Morgan When asked about whether he would be willing to drop himself from the starting line-up to accommodate an in-form player, he said: “It's always an option. I'm not going to stand in the way of a team winning the World Cup.” “I've been short of runs but my captaincy has been pretty good. I've always managed to compartmentalise both and treat them as two different challenges. Not being a bowler and being a bit older and not contributing as much in the field, I've loved the role of captain. You get two bites at the cherry (in) impacting the game,” the 2019 World Cup winning captain said during a virtual press conference. © Instagram Eoin Morgan While Morgan vowing to put his team above himself earned him a huge respect in the eyes of Indian fans, there was a group of Kolkata Knight Riders supporters who slammed him for costing them the IPL title. They questioned if he was indeed such a great team man, why didn’t he do the same in the IPL final, despite failing miserably throughout the tournament. Some Kohli haters dragged the Indian skipper in this whole issue and urged that he should learn something from Morgan and drop himself from the Playing XI for the sake of the team, because he has not been able to perform to his full potential in the last couple of years.
