  1. Virat Kohli’s brand value has taken a massive hit in the last 12 months, going down from around $238 million (Rs 1,803 cr) in 2020 to $181 million (Rs 1,371 cr) in 2021. This massive plunge is a direct result of what transpired on the field in the last six months. The Delhi batter is not the leader anymore. He relinquished T20I and Test captaincy on his own but was sacked unceremoniously from the 50-over role by the Indian cricket board. He even stepped down from the RCB captaincy. © Reuters His performances on the field weren’t great either and not to forget he was also involved in various controversies with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and its president Sourav Ganguly over the last few months and all this has caused a huge dip in his brand value. “One of the major factors for this drop was the increased risk associated with his brand and with the recent stepping down from captaincy and controversy with the BCCI,” Aviral Jain, Managing Director, Duff & Phelps, the agency that published this report, was quoted as saying by Moneycontrol. © Reuters Despite his brand value taking a huge plunge, the 33-year-old still continues to be India’s top celebrity brand endorser for the fifth consecutive year. He has eclipsed the likes of Ranveer Singh ($158m) and Akshay Kumar ($140m), Aliya Bhatt ($68m) who occupy the next three spots on the list. Even though his valuation has gone down considerably, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper still endorses more than 30 brands. Despite the plunge, he continues to be the most valuable athlete in the country. © Reuters There is a stark difference in Kohli’s brand value and the next cricketer on the list – MS Dhoni who has a valuation of $61m. The former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper, who guided them to their fourth IPL trophy last year, has seen a rise in his valuation but he is still miles behind his RCB compatriot. © Reuters Rohit Sharma, who took Kohli’s place as India’s new all-format captain, has also seen his brand value increase from $25.7 million in 2020 to $32.2 million in 2021 Just to put into perspective, the loss Kohli endured on his brand value was way more than Rohit’s current brand valuation. Just looking at the numbers, the Mumbai Indians skipper has a huge catching up to do before he can rival Kohli’s brand popularity. There’s no doubt that Kohli's numbers have gone down but he is still the undisputed king of the brand endorsement industry and it’s a testament to his overall supremacy. View the full article
  2. Sonu Nigam has found himself in the middle of yet another controversy. Reports recently claimed that the singer had received some derogatory texts from BMC chief Iqbal Singh Chahal's cousin Rajender. As per news, they both had connected over Sonu performing at a concert. After a lot of buzz on the singer receiving threatening messages, Rajender has issued a statement clearing the air. "The difference emerged between Mr Sonu Nigam and Mr Rajender Singh, as Mr Singh resisted working with one person referred to as Rocky and Mr Rehan Siddiqui recommended by Mr Nigam to perform at a concert overseas. Mr Rakesh Kaushal (alias Rocky) and Mr Rehan Siddiqui have been banned by the Ministry of State for Home Affairs, Govt of India," the statement reads. View this post on Instagram "The duo have been known for malpractices and supporting Pakistan-based terror groups as reported earlier in media. They are blacklisted based on recommendations of the Consulate General of India. It is against the ethics of Mr. Rajender Singh Pahl to work with Anti-Nationals. He will not work with anti-nationals even if they agree to work for free," the statement further claimed. Also it was denied that he was a cousin of BMC chief, and that they only belonged to the same village. The statement further had more questions from Rajender Singh Pahl’s side to Sonu Nigam, "Why does he insist that Mr. Rajender Singh Pahl work with those who are banned by The Government of India? Why does he want to work with Anti-national who fund and work with Pakistani terror groups? Does he have commercial ties and links with them?" adding that the ED or the IT department should investigate the money trail of 'terror funding leading to Mr Nigam.' Ever since the statement has gone viral, fans are boycotting the singer on social media. 3. There is a reason why Shah Rukh Khan is addressed as the ‘king’ of Bollywood. The man is an epitome of humility and wisdom when it comes to understanding his craft. There are many superstars in this industry, but he’s one of the biggest stars in the world. While he’s been MIA from the big screen for the longest time, his fans trust him to come back with a bang. Talking about fans and his connection with them, King Khan once sold tickets for his movie Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa himself while standing outside a theatre. The 1994 romantic comedy starring SRK, Suchitra Krishnamurthy, Deepak Tijori and Naseeruddin Shah continues to be one of the most famous films of all time, and also won many awards. Shah Rukh Khan once sold advance tickets for Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa at Mumbai’s famous Gaiety Galaxy theatre and this promotional strategy won big time. He sat at the ticketcounter, signed tickets for his fans and even got paid around Rs 25,000. Interestingly, not many people know this but Shah Rukh was not the first choice for the lead role. The movie was originally planned out for actors Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla. However, rumour has it that Aamir wasn’t too keen on this and Juhi had schedule problems. This movie was a big hit with fans and was even remade in Telugu as Swapnalokam in 1999. SRK will now be seen in YRF’s action-packed Pathan with John Abraham and Deepika Padukone in pivotal roles. 4. Shark Tank India is one of the most watched and loved shows on TV. It not only entertains, but allows families to sit together and judge a pitch in peace, while having fun with the banter. The judges or the sharks on the show have their own fan following. One of the judges, Lenskart founder Peyush Bansal won many hearts when he decided to invest in Kamlesh Nanasaheb Ghumare, aka Jugaadu Kamlesh’s business idea. Jugadu Kamlesh received ₹10,00,000 for 40% equity along with a no-interest loan of ₹20,00,000 from Peyush Bansal. While all the sharks decided to ditch the idea, Peyush believed in the farmer’s dream and helped him, thus winning a million hearts. © Sony As if needed more reason to like him more, he’s given us another reason to believe in the fact that he’s a great human being. On Sunday, Peyush Bansal invited Jugadu Kamlesh and his business partner to chill with his family at his Delhi house. © Peyush/instagram © Peyush/instagram Kamlesh and his nephew Naru also took to social media to share pictures with Peyush and his family. © Peyush/instagram © Peyush/instagram Giving an update to all the people who are following Kamlesh’s journey, he explained what was happening on the work front. He went live and told his followers that Kamlesh had come to Delhi on Sunday, and they had lunch together. About his pesticide trolley cart, he mentioned that an NID designer is working on the design of the cart. Kamelsh's company, K.G. Agrotech, is now registered as a company and the first prototype of the pesticide cart will be launched in about 3 months. Well, he is everyone’s favourite shark and now we know why! 5. The Indian cricket team got off to a terrible start in 2022, as they are yet to win their first match of the year. The team has played two Tests and three One-Day Internationals thus far, in which they have failed to live up to their reputation and have lost all three games. And while the fans of the Men in Blue were still struggling to recover from the series of losses, Indian legendary batter Virat Kohli explicitly announced that he will be stepping down from the role of the Indian Test captain following a 2-1 series defeat to South Africa on foreign soil. View this post on Instagram The reason that Kohli gave for taking such a drastic step was that he wanted to focus on becoming a better batsman and that getting away from all the added responsibilities will definitely help him become more valuable to his squad and prolong with a career as a successful and one of the greatest cricketer of all time. While the Delhi-born is well on his way to being called the most prominent champion of Indian cricket in the current era, some of the biggest legends of the game feel that the 34-year old still has a lot to give to his team and the rival teams have a lot to fear about when Kohli lets himself loose. View this post on Instagram One of South Africa’s all-time icons, Jonty Rhodes expressed that he would be “nervous” facing a Virat Kohli who would not have any kind of extra duties to adhere to and to have the sole objective o scoring as many runs as he can. “I'd be a little bit nervous of a Kohli who doesn't have the responsibility of leadership. Not that it cost him anything. I think he scored incredible runs for India. But he is such a passionate guy that he would want go out there and score heavily just to show that he is still relevant to India in any capacity,” said Rhodes while addressing a virtual media meet organised by Sony Sports Network. View this post on Instagram While it is unfortunate that Kohli never managed to win an ICC tournament during his time as the skipper, he is considered to be one of the most successful captains this team has had the honour of being led by. Kohli is also by far, the most successful red-ball captain with 40 wins off 68 matches under his belt while being in the role. With the next Test series due in March, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are yet to announce Virat Kohli’s replacement as the next Test captain of the country. As of now, the white-ball captain of the squad, Rohit Sharma seems to be the leading candidate. View this post on Instagram However, names like Ravi Shastri believe that while the ‘Hitman’ is more than capable of leading the Indian side, the Indian cricket board must also start developing a younger player to replace Sharma when he decides to call it quits. 6. Shark Tank India is one of the most popular TV series in India right now. Besides the unique and interesting concept of the show, it is highly entertaining too. We didn’t learn this much about business and investing in MBA as we did watching this show. © Sony Liv The hype for the show is evident from memes on social media to rumours and controversies in the entertainment world. One such rumour had it that one of the sharks, Anupam Mittal who’s the CEO and founder of Shaadi.com, People Group, is also one of the producers of the show. © Sony LIV Mittal cleared the air and dismissed the rumours of being the producer, stating a very hilarious reason of why this is untrue. He said that if he was the producer, he wouldn’t keep himself starving for hours while shooting, which apparently happens to the sharks too often on the sets. © Sony LIV In an interview with Siddharth Kannan he said, “Yeh maine khud suna hai and maine kaha, ‘Bhai, jo aadmi produce karega show, woh khudko khana nahi khilayega kya?’ Yeh Sony wale log mujhe khane nahi dete, sone nahi dete, shoot pe shoot karate hai, bhookha rakhte hai (I heard this rumour myself and said, ‘Brother, why would someone who produces the show keep himself hungry?’ The people from Sony don’t let me eat, they don’t let me sleep. They make me shoot all day and keep me starving).” © Sony LIV He also joked that he ends up investing in food companies because the food looks more interesting and appealing when one is hungry. “Aadhe contestants food ki companies leke aate hai aur aadmi ko jab bhookh lagti hai toh khana zyada interesting lagte hai, aur paise daal dete ho. Main khud ko thodi aise karunga (Half the contestants who come to the show own food companies and when one is hungry, food looks more interesting and one tends to put money on it. Why would I do that to myself?).” © Sony LIV We agree. He’s clearly not the producer of the show. Just a shark, and a hungry one at that most of the times. View the full article
  7. There are a handful of characters that go on to imprint themselves in your head and heart, especially as far as Indian TV shows are concerned. Yes, with OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime, the Indian audience has been introduced to a lot of quality content, but back in the day, when we were all hooked to television, only a select few serials managed to make a lasting impression. And one of them was CID. © Firework Productions We are talking about a time when the likes of Sherlock Holmes was preceded by ACP Pradyuman aka Shivaji Satam, who was as famous back in the day as his line, “Daya, kuch toh gadbad hai”. © Firework Productions CID was one of the longest-running and most popular TV shows with actor Shivaji Satam forever branding himself as ACP Pradyuman to every 90s kid. And while he was all the rage back then, solving crimes with his team that included characters like Daya, Abhijeet, Purvi and more, is worried about having the sun set on his career now. © Firework Productions During a recent interview with HT, CID fame Shivaji Satam opened up about not having enough work now. He said, “It’s my bad luck that no powerful characters are being written. It’s a loss on both sides. As an actor, I miss out on good work and the audience misses out on good actors.” Tired of having been offered cop roles over and over again after his stunt as ACP Pradyuman, Shivaji Satam talks about how even though he wouldn’t be up for having himself stereotyped into just one role, he wouldn’t mind playing the same role in CID again. #SuperExclusive HOT EXCLUSIVE#ShivajiSatam aka ACP Pradyumn hints at #CID to return with New season with new format, he reveals they are in talks to revive the show!!@GossipsTv#4SaalBemisaalOfGtv pic.twitter.com/psdYXso4oy — GossipsTv OFFICIAL (GTv) (@GossipsTv) January 17, 2022 He shared, “Tomorrow (if) CID starts again, I’ll be right in the front to do the project. I’m not tired of playing the character, but tired of being home.” And honestly, we don’t think that there would be anyone better suited for the role than him either. Soooo happy . — Aysha Habib || #SolidWomanRashamiInBB15 (@ayshahabib11) January 17, 2022Finally #CID is coming back — hope (@Sumi21471312) January 17, 2022 Addressing the ongoing rumours about a CID reboot, Shivaji said, “Producers are talking about reviving CID in a different kind of format,” however, nothing has been confirmed yet. Meanwhile, fans are already ecstatic at the possibility of having the show revived. As far as work is concerned, the actor was last seen playing a small role in the film Haseen Dilruba. 8. In the last year, KL Rahul has become one of the most valuable players for Team India across all three formats of the game. He has produced several match-winning performances in red-ball cricket in the last 12 months and established himself as one of the key members of India’s batting line-up, especially with other senior players going through a horrible lean patch. Whenever he has scored big, the Men in Blue have more often than not ended up on the right side of the result which makes his contribution all the more crucial. The Karnataka opener knows how valuable his wicket is and that’s why every time he walks out to bat he puts a huge price on his wicket and doesn’t like getting out cheaply. View this post on Instagram And naturally, whenever he fails to provide the side with a solid start, he is not happy with himself. Taking over India’s leadership role in regular skipper Virat Kohli’s absence, the 29-year-old opener scored a crucial half-century in the first but failed to replicate the same success on a Day 3 pitch, getting out for mere eight runs. Unlike Kohli, Rahul is known for his cool and calm demeanour but on the third day of the second Test he showed that while he wasn’t a big fan of talking too much and he sure knows how to give it back to the opposition if poked. Rahul and Elgar have an exchange. Not a pleasant one by the looks of it #INDvSA pic.twitter.com/whSm16T8gv — Benaam Baadshah (@BenaamBaadshah4) January 4, 2022 As he was walking back to the pavilion after being dismissed, the Indian skipper was involved in a brief verbal exchange with the opposition skipper Dean Elgar. The right-handed batter was perhaps not happy with some of the words that were dished out at him from South Africa’s team huddle while he was marching back towards the dressing room. Rahul, who was already upset by the dismissal, got further infuriated by their comments and he exchanged a few words with Elgar. The visuals of this verbal exchange became a huge talking point on social media, with fans taking sides based on their respective allegiance. Some exchange of words here.. pic.twitter.com/cEVruiGNEI — Kanav Bali (@Concussion__Sub) January 4, 2022 It’s hard to say for sure what pissed off the Indian skipper so much that he decided to respond but fans believe it had something to do with what had happened earlier in the day. Van der Dussen's catch didn't carry, but I wouldn't blame Pant to claim it, he has every right to, Erasmus must be blamed here the most, Umpiring standards have dropped considerably pic.twitter.com/KmbXmosvGS — ArnavTalksCricket (@TweetsByArnav) January 4, 2022 During the Proteas first innings, Rassie Van der Dussen was dismissed in a controversial fashion right at the stroke of lunch but he walked back to the pavilion without lodging any complaint. The replay showed that it was a rather close caught behind chance but the on-field umpire ruled in India’s favour. It led to a huge debate on social media as people started taking sides. #IndvSA KL Rahul OUT!! 3rd umpire checked the catch.. Zoomer didn’t come up.. From long shot it looked fingers underneath.. After being given out, some heated exchange of words between Elgar and Rahul.. Rahul kept on replying as he went off.. All heating up at the bull ring.. pic.twitter.com/O3wdyHldnM — Anurag Sinha (@anuragsinha1992) January 4, 2022That catch against #KLRahul was not at all clean. Can't remember the last time i saw such partial and biased umpiring as well as commentating. #MikeHaysman seriously needs a life and stop cribbing about every decision that goes against SA. #INDvSA — saurabh sharma (@Ad_Carpe_Vinum) January 4, 2022#KLRahul must have told the South African players that the whole nation will be ashamed of them for claiming that catch against him. Absolutely disgusting on their part to wrongly claim his wicket.#INDvsSA #testcricket #ICC #BCCI — Rockyfficial aka MrNobody (@Rockyfficial) January 4, 2022 Just like Van der Dussen, Rahul was also adjudged out by the on-field match official but unlike the South Africa batter, the Indian captain held his crease, forcing the umpires to go upstairs with a soft signal of ‘OUT’. After taking a close look at replays from all possible angles, the TV umpire couldn’t find any conclusive evidence to overturn the original decision and Rahul was handed his marching orders. FIFTY! A gritty half-century from @klrahul11 This is his 13th in Tests. LIVE - https://t.co/TIfO06B6x8 #SAvIND pic.twitter.com/jGya9EeTQl — BCCI (@BCCI) January 3, 2022 Delighted with the prized scalp, the hosts formed a team huddle and perhaps said something about the two similar dismissals and how it was tackled differently by both individuals. First of all, Van der Dussen walked off because his back was towards the bowler and he was oblivious to the fact that the catch wasn’t completed cleanly. So, he had no option but to leave the field. Rahul, on the other hand, saw the ball going towards the second slip and was not sure if he had taken it cleanly. So, he was perfectly within his rights to ask the umpire to use the technology. View this post on Instagram Rather than questioning Rahul’s action, it would be better if the South Africans taught their players to put more price on their wicket and stand up for their own sake. 9. Ahead of Day 1 of the second Test between India and South Africa on Tuesday, the fans of the Men in Blue were rather surprised to see KL Rahul walk to the middle of the Wanderers cricket ground for the toss alongside the Protea captain Dean Elgar instead of Virat Kohli. It was going to be his 99th Test match, and after being relieved of all his white-ball responsibilities as captain ahead of the tournament, the Indian cricket fraternity is expecting him to get back in his top form as a batter any day now. Surprising news for the Cricket Team fans as the captain Kohli has an upper back spam and will not take part in this second Test against South Africa! - KL will be handling the responsibilities! #Crickslab #SAvIND #india #southafrica #ViratKohli pic.twitter.com/WHQ3URwXmY — CricksLab (@CricksLab) January 3, 2022 However, the confusion about Kohli’s absence from the field was quickly cleared out by Rahul, who confirmed that he was going to be leading the touring squad in the penultimate Test of the series after Kohli picked up a severe upper back spasm ahead of the game and was going to be ruled out for the entirety of Test 2. Rahul did clarify that the ace batter should be able to recover in time to play the final Test of the series in Cape Town and based on the way things are looking for the Men in Blue ahead of the second Day of the second Test, it is a safe bet to say that the team would need their original skipper’s support to be able to take this series home. View this post on Instagram Nonetheless, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, Sunil Gavaskar has found a silver lining regarding Kohli missing out on the second Test with the injury. While being on commentary duty on Day 1 of the second Test, Gavaskar talked about how missing out on this Test would make the Cape Town match his 99th in the longest format of the game, which further meant that Kohli would be playing his 100th game in India, among his most energetic fans. View this post on Instagram What’s even better is the fact that the first Test match at home will be played on 25th February at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium, the home to the Royal Challengers Bangalore, which Kohli captained for over nine years before giving it up at the end of the 2021 season. "The next one is in Cape Town. The 100th Test match will be in Bangalore. And of course, him being the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore for such a long time it will be a fantastic experience. We have to see if the crowd is allowed there, that is also important. I hope it is allowed because he deserves a huge ovation from the crowd for his 100th Test," the Little Master said on air. View this post on Instagram At the moment though, Team India and Kohli himself will be thinking about the best way to make the most of the 1-0 lead they gained after winning the Centurion match magnificently and keep the hopes of winning their first Test series on South African soil alive. 10. You have heard celebrities enjoying the perks of their stardom, courtesy the fanbase they enjoy. However, how many times have you heard of a normal human being enjoying some perks in life simply because they belong to the homeland of a certain celebrity? We know how SRK‘s global presence is unmatched and he is probably the biggest superstar produced on this planet. One of the stellar examples of how far his fans are willing to go in the name of some love for him was reiterated recently when an Indian tourist shared her travel tale. Turns out, the ‘desi’ tourist needed to transfer some money to an agent in Egypt for her trip and due to some technical issues she was facing, it couldn’t happen. The man happily helped her with booking without an advance payment. Why? Simply because she belonged to SRK’s country and he is a huge fan. Needed to transfer money to a travel agent in Egypt. Was having problems with the transfer. He said: you are from the country of @iamsrk. I trust you. I will make the booking, you pay me later. For anywhere else, I wouldn't do this. The Indian cricket team that is set to embark on a challenging tour of South Africa suffered a massive blow as Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the red-ball leg of the tour due to a last-moment hamstring injury. © Reuters The stylish opener was one of the standout performers for India in England and many had expected him to deliver the goods in the Rainbow Nation as well. Even the selectors had entrusted him with the greater responsibilities, appointing him as the new vice-captain of the red-ball squad. Luckily, there are enough options available for the opening slot and finding his replacement shouldn’t be an uphill task. While the selectors have named Priyank Panchal as Rohit’s injury replacement, Mayank Agarwal who scored a terrific hundred in the Mumbai Test against New Zealand is most likely to open the batting alongside KL Rahul. NEWS - Priyank Panchal replaces injured Rohit Sharma in India's Test squad. Rohit sustained a left hamstring injury during his training session here in Mumbai yesterday. Now nobody knows when and how Rohit got injured. He led the side in the home T20I series against New Zealand and guided them to a 3-0 clean sweep, after which he was rested from the following Test series. © Reuters The last time he turned up for India, he did not suffer any injury and was operating completely fine. How did he get injured at the last moment just before entering the team bio-bubble in Mumbai? The question is now being asked of the selectors how they can have no idea about a player’s physical condition, especially ahead of an important series like this one. © Reuters Ever since Rohit was named India’s new ODI skipper, Kohli’s fans have left no opportunity to pull the opener down and they did the same after this news broke out. Rather than sympathising with India’s new ODI captain, some fans mocked his fitness and vented out their frustration against him. Some even felt that he wasn’t good enough to lead a team in two formats because his fitness was always going to be a big cause of concern. © Reuters Rohit and Kohli haven’t played together after the T20 World Cup and some fans even believed that the two ‘alpha males’ have drifted apart from each other after the recent captaincy change and are trying to avoid facing each other. Not just Rohit’s fitness, some Kohli supporters even dug up the former’s record on South African soli and claimed that he used this injury as an excuse to save himself from another embarrassment. The 34-year-old batter has transformed his game in the last year or so and established himself as one of the main assets for Team India across formats. It’s sad that Kohli fans are celebrating his injury but, somewhere deep down, they also know that Rohit was arguably India’s best batters in the format and his injury will definitely hurt India’s chances of winning a Test series in South Africa. 12. India might have wrapped up the Test series against New Zealand with an astonishing 372-run victory but it has increased the headache for the selectors and team management going forward. According per the BCCI press release, Rahane missed the second Test with an injury but fans were convinced that he was dropped on the bench owing to his poor performances of late. Both the senior campaigners have been facing a lot of criticism on social media and many experts also feel that neither of them deserve a place in the starting lineup but Rahane would be the first one to get the sack. No one can judge it. Only the individual knows what he’s going through. We need to back them in these moments, especially when they have done well in the past. We don’t have this environment where we have our players asking ‘what happens now?’. That’s not how we do it in the side,” Kohli said during the post-match press conference. We cannot expect that balance outside.” “The same people who praise certain players want them out of the team after two months. We have never reacted like that and we never will because we know the amount of effort that goes into it [playing the game]. We will support him, whether it is Ajinkya or someone else. We won’t take a decision based on the atmosphere outside,” said the Indian captain, describing Rahane as an important team player. 14. When you’re the King of Bollywood, it can get rather lonely at the top. When you are constantly in the public eye and are being judged all the time, it is only natural that you grow thick skin to protect yourself. Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan has the penchant to turn any kind of negativity into love by adding his gift of wit. SRK is known for his uncanny, humorous side and his AMAs on social media are a favourite among his fans. During his #AskSRK sessions, he usually always displays his witty side with a quick comeback. Once upon a time, there were trolls spreading rumours about SRK’s sexuality and all sorts of gibberish was being written. Amidst all of this, someone straight up asked him if he’s bisexual. © Instagram According to a Telly Chakkar report, in one of the interviews, the actor cleared the air once and for all and addressed the rumours. “That’s rubbish. I don’t do men, I don’t do women. I’m happily in love with my wife. Hey, I like that line from *** and the City 'I’m try-s*xual. I try anything that’s s*xual. Okay, I’m try-s*xual. No, hey, cut that out.” Shah Rukh has also been open about his thoughts around gossip mills being run by magazines that link him to his co-stars. He spoke about how his friendships were sensationalised and that led to him thinking twice before signing movies back in the day. “The minute I pose with a girl for a movie magazine, they’ll put a hideous signature on it. Magazines need sensationalism to sell one more, but I refuse to add to the trash” he said. For now, the actor will soon be seen in Pathan which also stars John Abraham and Deepika Padukone in pivotal roles. View the full article
  15. After being dominated by the New Zealand openers on the second day of the Kanpur Test, the Indian bowlers scripted a great comeback on the following day, bowling them out from 296 runs in the first innings. However, not everything went India’s way on Day 3. Having stitched a 151-run stand for the opening wicket, the visitors were well and truly in the driver’s seat. Both their openers Tom Latham and Will Young made the batting look so easy and made the Indian bowlers toil hard for the wickets. .@ashwinravi99 gets the much needed breakthrough as Will Young is caught behind for 89. Despite losing his opening partner, Latham kept scoring runs and inched towards his yet another Test hundred. The hosts knew the southpaw’s wicket would be crucial if they were to mount a comeback yet they gave him a lifeline by deciding against the Decision Review System (DRS) in the 73rd over of the New Zealand innings. What’s astonishing is that India had not one but two reviews left at the time but still, they didn’t go upstairs. The veteran off-spinner made a huge LBW appeal but it was turned down by the umpire. Given the position India were in, everyone expected them to challenge the on-field decision because at first glance it seemed a really close call but Ajinkya Rahane’s decision left everyone surprised. Are the matches going to get decided on the basis of a team’s judgment to take (or not to) DRS? pic.twitter.com/WzDoWrTQri — Bhupesh Juneja (@BhupeshJuneja1) November 27, 2021 The replay showed that the ball had pitched in the line, the impact was in front, and the ball would have gone on to hit the middle and off stump. Indian batting great Sunil Gavaskar felt that India “missed the trick” by not going for the DRS, adding that at most it would have been the umpire’s call and they would have retained the review. “India missed a trick. They should have gone for the review. Even if it was umpire's call, they would have retained the review,” Gavaskar said, who was on-air at the time. Rahane, who has been facing a lot of flak owing to his poor form, was heavily criticised by the Indian fans on social media, with people questioning his place in the Test team. 16. Last month, Nawazuddin fans went into a frenzy when media headlines claimed that the actor was quitting OTT platforms for good. In his interview, he mentioned that OTT had become a ‘dhanda’ for production houses and that he was done with it. However, putting rumours to rest, in a recent interview with India Today, he addressed these tall claims and rubbished them as false rumours. He said that his words were actually taken out of context . "I am doing a lot of films for OTT. I am sitting here because of Netflix. OTT platforms have given us all international recognition. We get to showcase our talent there for the whole world to see. In my statement, I was talking about some production houses that randomly make anything. It was taken out of context and my intention was never to say that I want to quit OTT. I just don't want to do anything that looks like a serial”, he said. I feel it is an advantage because it supports me with the characters I play”, he quipped.
