The space race between the world’s two wealthiest men heated up after Elon Musk trolled Jeff Bezos’ attempt to challenge a major NASA contract. Both billionaires have been trying to launch long-range orbital rockets and were competing against each other for a government contract to build a spaceship. This spaceship is said to deliver astronauts to the moon by 2024. However, as things turned out; Musk won the contract and in return trolled Bezos’s Blue Origin. Bezos’ Blue Origin filed a protest with the Government Accountability Office (GAO) accusing NASA of making changes for contract bidders at the last minute. © Reuters Musk responded with a Tweet saying “Can’t get it up (to orbit) lol.” Musk did not elaborate further. However, he did post a screenshot from a 2019 report about Blue Origin’s moon lander in the same thread. Can’t get it up (to orbit) lol — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) April 26, 2021 It’s not a surprise to see Musk trolling Bezos’ Blue Origin as it has fallen behind SpaceX and United Launch Alliance (ULA) on orbital transportation, The company has lost billions of dollars worth of contracts that are set to begin in 2022. NASA awarded SpaceX and defence contractor Dynetics the lunar contract over Blue Origin. It was the most sought after contract as it will push humans back on the moon for the first time since 1972. © Reuters "NASA has executed a flawed acquisition for the Human Landing System program and moved the goalposts at the last minute," Blue Origin said in an emailed statement to Reuters. "Their decision eliminates opportunities for competition, significantly narrows the supply base, and not only delays but also endangers America's return to the moon. Because of that, we've filed a protest with the GAO.” The GAP also confirmed that SpaceX’s contract that was awarded by NASA was also challenged by Dynetics. Blue Origin’s 50-[age protest of the decision argued that NASA misjudged Blue Origin’s proposal to build the new Moon lander. View the full article

Disney, Fox in focus on Wall Street as deal talk heats up
ADMIN posted a blog entry in Geo News Blog
Walt Disney Co. and 21st Century Fox shares were in the spotlight Wednesday amid reports the two media-entertainment powerhouses were readying a major deal for some of Fox's prized television and film assets. Some reports said the deal -- in which Disney would acquire the famed Fox Hollywood studios and key television operations of the Murdoch family-controlled group -- could be announced as soon as Thursday. Fox shares were down 3.6 percent at $32.87 in mid-morning trade, in a pullback after sharp gains over the past few weeks. Disney shares were nearly unchanged at $107.40. According to CNBC television and The Financial Times. Disney is expected to pay $60 billion for the assets. CNBC said the deal would give Fox shareholders 25 percent of an expanded Disney empire. Disney is believed to be bidding for the Fox studios known for their film and television productions as well as the cable channels FX and National Geographic, plus the company's 39 percent stake in British-based pay TV group Sky. The deal would likely shrink the empire created by billionaire Rupert Murdoch, and controlled by him and his two sons, leaving the Fox broadcast network, Fox News and sports cable channels. The tie-up is seen as a response to the shifting landscape in the media-entertainment sector disrupted by streaming giants such as Netflix and Amazon. The plan could nonetheless face scrutiny from antitrust regulators because it could concentrate power in the Hollywood studios -- and potentially in broadcast sports. Analyst Brian Wieser of Pivotal Research said a reduced Fox "may lose scale and related efficiencies with the transaction, (but) may benefit from focus, financial leverage and changes to US media ownership rules." In a research note, Wieser said that "international exposure is likely positive for Disney (and) the loss of international exposure is negative for Fox." -
Turn down the sound, urges England coach as Ashes sledging heats up

Tensions simmered between the feisty rivals with umpire Aleem Dar at one stage stepping between England paceman James Anderson and Australia skipper Steve Smith ADELAIDE: England coach Trevor Bayliss says he wants the stumps microphones turned down as emotions spill over in the fiercely-fought Ashes Test series with Australia. Tensions have simmered between the feisty rivals with umpire Aleem Dar at one stage stepping between England paceman James Anderson and Australia skipper Steve Smith, who were insulting each other at close quarters. England's Stuart Broad was also highly animated in his send-off of batsman Peter Handscomb after he dismissed him leg before wicket during Sunday's second day of the day-night Adelaide Test. Bayliss said he was not comfortable with the level of sledging between the two sides. "Probably not and that goes for both sides but it's just the way the game is these days. I'd like to see the microphones turned down," he told reporters. "I don't think anyone necessarily has to listen to what is being said but it's grown men playing a very competitive sport and sometimes emotions spill over." Bayliss denied there was a concerted English plan to unsettle master batsman Smith and the Australian team. "Certainly not. It's just red-blooded young males competing against each other," he said. "I think most of the time it's fairly light-hearted. A lot more is made of it in the press. "After the games and after this series the blokes are together having a beer with no hard feelings. It's just the way the game is played." Smith and Anderson were at each other before the Adelaide Test. Anderson declared Australia were bullies with Smith retorting that the all-time leading England Test wicket-take was one of the biggest sledgers in the game. Cricket Australia chief James Sutherland defended the Australian team for their part in the sledging war, saying the practice didn't mean a lack of respect. "I do feel very strongly about the spirit of cricket and the way the game is played," he told ABC radio on Sunday. "I do feel conscious of playing hard but playing very fair. "But I am also very conscious, and I know our players are conscious of, wanting Australian cricket fans to be proud of them. "Certainly I'm very proud of our team and the way they go about it and, in recent times, the way they have found where the line is drawn." -
Whirlpool's washer battle with Samsung, LG heats up at trade hearing

The Whirlpool logo is seen at their plant in Apodaca, Monterrey, Mexico, January 27, 2017. REUTERS/Daniel Becerril/Files WASHINGTON: Appliance giant Whirlpool Corp on Thursday called on the US International Trade Commission to impose ?global safeguard? restrictions on imported washing machines to stop its South Korean rivals Samsung and LG from flooding the American market with cheap machines. In testimony to the trade body, Whirlpool Chief Executive Officer Jeff Fettig accused Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and LG Electronics Inc of pursuing a strategy of moving operations around the world to avoid paying US duties. ?Without safeguard relief, it is hard to see how we maintain our competitiveness in the face of a continued onslaught of low-priced imports,? Fettig said. Whirlpool's head said the companies had moved major manufacturing operations to five different countries to avoid anti-dumping duties being imposed by the United States on their washing machines. ?A global safeguard is absolutely critical because it is the only tool available under US trade law that can remedy the impact of Samsung and LG?s evasive ?country hopping? behaviour,? he added. The ITC in January found that Whirlpool and other US producers were injured by dumped imports of large residential washing machines from China. The 6-0 decision locked in place for five years final duties on the products of as much as 52.5 percent. Appealing to President Donald Trump?s ?America First? agenda, Fettig warned that American jobs were at stake unless action was taken to halt the low-cost imports. While Whirlpool has been pursuing anti-dumping cases for years against its South Korean rivals, it did not seek broader relief under Section 201 of the Trade Act of 1974 until Wilbur Ross ? Trump?s commerce secretary ? took office with a mandate for a much tougher trade enforcement agenda. Two US solar panel makers ? SolarWorld America and Suniva Inc, majority-owned by Chinese solar manufacturer Shunfeng International Clean Energy Ltd ? are seeking similar relief from imports in the first Section 201 case filed in more than a decade. Consumer brand appeal Samsung Electronics North America chief executive Tim Baxter rejected Whirlpool claims that the company?s washers were harming the US appliance industry. ?Our success in the US laundry market is due to our ability to meet new consumer preferences,? Baxter said in prepared testimony for the hearing. ?American consumers buy Samsung washing machines because of our design, quality workmanship and innovation,? he added. Samsung said in June it would invest $380 million in a home appliance manufacturing plant in Newberry, South Carolina, which would generate 954 jobs by 2020. John Riddle ? the senior vice president of US Home Appliances at LG ? argued that LG?s growth in the US market was because consumers were supporting its brand and that the new retailers had decided to carry its products. The ITC will vote later this month on whether the washer imports cause harm to US producers. If it makes such a finding, it would recommend remedies by late November to Trump, who would make a final decision by early 2018. -

PHOTO: Reuters Former gold medallist Brimin Kipruto failed to reach the final of the men´s 3,000 metres steeplechase at the World Championships in London on Sunday, as Kenyan athletes struggled to impose themselves in the heats. Kenya´s Olympic champion Conseslus Kipruto booked his place in Tuesday?s final by winning the third heat in 8:23.80, but his team mates struggled in the London Stadium. Kenyans have won the previous five world titles and the last nine Olympic golds, but Brimin Kipruto, who won in Osaka 10 years ago, was knocked out after finishing seventh in his heat and Jairus Birech and Ezekiel Kemboi only progressed as fastest losers. Transfer activity heats up as football window approaches final month

BARCELONA: The transfer speculation surrounding Barcelona star Neymar continued on Tuesday as the Brazilian forward heads back to the Catalan city following promotional commitments in China, as reported by ESPN FC. Neymar is due to re-join his Barcelona teammates in training on Wednesday despite being at the forefront of a recording-breaking ?222 million transfer to PSG. The 25 year-old forward has so far remained tight-lipped regarding his future, fuelling speculation through ambiguous social media posts. While in Dubai, Neymar quoted a passage from the Bible on social media when he stated, "I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances." The cryptic posts provide no reassurance to Barcelona fans, who would be losing a world-class player, and only fuel speculation over Neymar's seemingly imminent departure. The buzz surrounding the 2011 FIFA Puskas Award winner's departure is already beginning to anger fans, with home-made posters in Barcelona labeling Neymar as a 'traitor'. This may only be the beginning of a backlash from a passionate fan-base that demands unwavering loyalty from all their players. Various media sources have reported that, despite Neymar currently re-joining Ernesto Valvedero's team, the Brazilian would continue with his proposed transfer to French giants PSG, with a medical likely by the end of this week. ESPN FC also reported that that plans to unveil Neymar are already being discussed in Paris, hinting at the club's confidence in capturing his signature as the transfer seems to edge closer to completion. In a summer already containing a number of big-money moves, the transfer would not only break all sorts of records, it could also pave the way for many subsequent deals that would send waves across the football world as Barcelona attempt to cope with the loss of a player viewed by many as the successor to Messi. Chesea eye Drinkwater as Matic replacement Meanwhile, Chelsea are interested in signing Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater, according to Sky sources. An integral figure in Leicester City's 2015 Premier League winning campaign, Drinkwater is being touted as a possible replacement for Nemanja Matic, who has been sold to Manchester United for £40m. Drinkwater's performances in the 2015-16 season earned him an England call-up and a new four-year contract with Leicester. A possible move to Stamford Bridge would see him rejoin forces with N?golo Kante, who partnered Drinkwater in midfield during Leicester's historic season. The 27-year old however is currently only being viewed as one of a number of potential targets, with Blues manager Antonio Conte continuing his search for a midfielder following the sales of Matic to United and Nathaniel Chalobah to Watford respectively. The lack of midfield options, despite the recent arrival of Bakayoko from Monaco, might be a cause of concern for Conte, whose side would have the added pressure of playing in the Champions League this season. Last season, Chelsea were fortunate to have avoided any major injuries in their title run. However, if Conte is to continue playing his preferred two in midfield as part of a 3-4-3 system, midfield cover would be essential in maintaining quality and energy in the middle of the park, an earmark of Chelsea's success last season. Despite impressive performances during the back end of last season, Cesc Fabregas is expected to remain an option off the bench. Fabregas is undoubtedly an offensive asset, but his lack of athleticism and defensive limitations do not make him a smooth fit in Conte's preferred formation, seen by his lack of first-team action. Drinkwater is likely to be only a back-up to the pairing of Kante and Bakayoko as Chelsea aim to strengthen their squad in fashion to their Manchester rivals. However, he would prove as a useful and possibly cheaper midfield option, as his hard-working nature and comfortable passing ability would add dependable depth to a Chelsea team looking to retain their trophy. Sanchez returns to training Arsenal supporters can breathe a brief sigh of relief as Alexis Sanchez is seen to have returned to training, reported by Sky sources. The 28-year old was given extended leave following his participation in the Confederations Cup, but reported back to training on Tuesday. The Chilean forward has been at the centre of transfer speculation throughout this pre-season, with both Manchester City and PSG expressing interest in his services. A player of Sanchez' caliber would add quality to any side, and a move to Paris or Manchester would aid considerably in either team's attempts to regain their league title and make a significant push in the Champions League, a competition Sanchez' current club failed to qualify for this season. Speculation regarding Sanchez' future is unlikely to end soon, as other activity in the market continues. However, Sky Sports reports that for the time being, Sanchez will continue to report to training and also take part in an open training session on Thursday. Busy August for Liverpool What started off as a highly-encouraging transfer window for Liverpool, with the arrivals of Mohammad Salah, Dominic Solanke and Andy Robertson adding some much needed competition for places, is beginning to look slightly more complicated for Jurgen Klopp's side. Having seemingly conceded defeat in their pursuit of Naby Keita from RB Leipzeig, following a number of rejected bids amid Leipzig's firm stance that the player was not for sale. Jurgen Klopp now faces himself with the apparent task of keeping his prized possession, Phillipe Coutinho, at Anfield as the Brazilian is reportedly being looked as a possible replacement for Neymar at Barcelona. Klopp remains adamant that Coutinho is not for sale in a similar fashion as RB Leipzig were with him regarding Naby Keita. He is now posed with the challenge of finding alternatives to Keita, with Renato Sanches of Bayern Munich being reportedly looked at as a possible alternative. The potential of the young Portugese midfielder is undoubted, although following a difficult first season at Bayern and still only 19 years-old, he currently lacks the defensive maturity that Liverpool need in midfield to make a serious title challenge. A natural defensive anchor as part of his counter-attacking 4-3-3 system is a piece that remains to allude Klopp, if he is unable to capture Keita or any alternative by the end of this window, having finally found suitable options for other positions. Moreover, Liverpool are attempting to revamp their attempts in signing Virgil Van Dijk, the Southampton captain, as Klopp aims to solve his side's defensive deficiencies. Liverpool's interest in Van Dijk is no secret, as they have already issued an apology to Southampton following an illegal approach earlier in the window. Van Dijk could be the answer to Liverpool's defensive issues, with the Southampton captain impressing heavily in his two seasons in the Premier League, as leaking goals remained the Achilles heel of a Liverpool side that was able to find the net with relative ease during Klopp's first full campaign. Van Dijk himself seems keen for the move to go through, with reports that he is going to hold talks with manager Mauricio Pellegrino this week as Liverpool prepare another bid, according to Liverpool Echo. If Klopp is able to capture the signature of Van Dijk and keep Coutinho away from suitors, Liverpool have the potential of being a very interesting and competitive side to watch in the forthcoming season. On the other hand, if the coming weeks do not quite go the Merseyside team's way, fans should prepare themselves for a late August scramble for players and beginning the season with significant ground already lost on other title-challenging squads.
