  1. June 2019 is a fiery month for all that is good on TV and the movies and we can't wait to become absolute couch potatoes next month onwards. Apart from that, going to the movie hall and spending a good amount of money will be worth it in June because Hollywood has something good in store for us. It is action-packed, it's funny, it's horrific and it's animated, and with every genre coming together to give you maximum entertainment, there is nothing else you really need. (c)20th Century Fox So, yes, look out for these 5 kickass Hollywood movies in June, book your tickets sooner than soon and don't forget to thank us. (1) X-Men: The Dark Phoenix (c)20th Century Fox Well, we've been waiting for this one far too long now and we hope it's not a sheer disappointment. While some of us can't wait to see Sansa aka Sophie Turner in a different avatar altogether, most of us have been waiting to see what Dark Phoenix really unfolds. All we know is the X-Men face their most powerful foe, Jean Grey. Jean is hit by a mysterious cosmic force when she's on a mission in space and after her return to earth, she's just infinitely powerful and a little bit evil, all because she really hasn't learnt to control the power she possesses. Banking on Sophie for this one. Releasing on: June 7, 2019 Watch the trailer here (2) Men In Black: International (c)Sony Pictures Releasing We have 'Men In Black: International' the fourth part of the series releasing this year on June 14th and we can't keep it together, because the trailer looks really badass, with some new elements drawn in. The sad part though is that we don't have the regular partners in crime this time, and that's the kinda camaraderie we're really going to miss. But fret not, 'MIB International' promises another alien invasion and two agents looking to kick some alien ass. Releasing on: June 14, 2019 Watch the trailer here (3) Child's Play (c)United Artists Releasing Although the scary doll movie has maintained its sequels pretty well, the new one isn't a part of that. In fact, the new 'Child's Play' is the remake of the original one and it seems as scary as the first one. The movie definitely has some old-school slasher vibe. Can't wait to see this again. Releasing on : June 21, 2019 Watch the trailer here (4) Toy-Story 4 (c)Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures This one is packed with a lot of action and nostalgia because Bo Peep is coming back after more than 20 years after making a debut back in 1999. The movie will hit the theatres in June. Releasing on : June 21, 2019 Watch the trailer here (5) The Dead Don't Die (c) Focus Features There's a chance this movie won't be in theatres here, but even so, download it when the time is right and watch it for sure. Because if you're in to zombies, this one's a funny one for sure. To add some light humour to an intense horrific year, we have another comical (of sorts) Zombie movie, with an awesome cast. The movie is obviously about a small-town police department battle some zombies. Of course, it's like any other Zombie movie but the cast surely makes this better. With Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Selena Gomez, Steve Buscemi, Rozie Perez and Iggy Pop, this movie looks damn promising. Releasing on: June 14, 2019 Watch the trailer here There are lots more releasing next month but these are surely going to have you at the edge of your seat. Most of the releases are sequels and maybe 2019 is the year of some great sequels (read 'Avengers: Endgame'). So, maybe plan your weekends with these movies on your agenda, for sure.
  2. It's not brand new information that Bollywood has always been keen on remakes. They draw inspiration from Hollywood primarily or any other regional movie which has an interesting plot. Over the years we've seen many remakes and some of them have done quite well and the audience has loved the adaptations, without thinking that everything is copied scene to scene. Recently, we heard about another Bollywood remake underway that could be a very challenging role for Parineeti Chopra. A direct adaptation of 'A Girl On The Train' (2016) is in the pipeline and we're really excited about that one. The name though hasn't been decided yet, but we're sure Parineeti will do complete justice to her role. © Instagram There have been other remakes that are yet to release in India, and we can only hope they're as good or better than the original. Let's take a look: (1) Bollywood's Remake Of 'The Girl On The Train' © Universal Pictures Even though the name hasn't been decided for this one, it stars Parineeti Chopra. Ribhu Dasgupta will be helming this project and it's based on an American psychological mystery thriller. The original starred Emily Blunt, who played Rachel, an alcoholic divorcee, who gets dragged into a missing person's investigation. Emily won several award and nominations for the film, so naturally, expectations are quite high from Parineeti, who in all probability will play Emily's role in the film! The release is expected somewhere in 2020, as the film will hit the floor later this year. Hopping onto this thrilling ride! Excited to be a part of #TheGirlOnTheTrain's official Hindi remake.@ribhudasgupta @RelianceEnt @amblin #DreamWorksPictures #TheGirlOnTheTrain pic.twitter.com/0cNNzbc3IL — Parineeti Chopra (@ParineetiChopra) 24 April 2019 (2) Bollywood's Remake of 'Rambo' © Instagram Yes, you read that right! Sylvester Stallone's 'Rambo' is all set to be remade in Bollywood and do you happen to have any guesses who's been chosen to play Stallone? It's quite obvious isn't it? Yup, Tiger Shroff will do the honours and his look compared to Stallone's in the film is quite uncanny! View this post on Instagram A post shared by Tiger Shroff (@tigerjackieshroff) on May 25, 2017 at 7:05am PDT The film was said to be shelved as there were other projects in the pipeline for both Tiger and Sidharth Anand, the director, but now the movie is said to hit the floors by the end of this year and release sometime in 2020. Seriously, can't wait for this one to come out! (3) 'Dil Bechara'- Bollywood's Remake Of 'The Fault In Our Stars' © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Earlier, the film was named 'Kizie And Manny' but it was later changed to 'Dil Bechara'. If you haven't had a chance to watch 'The Fault In Our Stars', here's your chance to watch the remake instead. The director Mukesh Chhabra has roped in Sushant Singh Rajput and newcomer Sanjana Sanghi for the role. The original movie is based on a novel by John Greene, which was made into a Hollywood classic in 2014 by Josh Boone, starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort. The plot is based on a cancer patient who falls in love with an amputee. The music will be given by A.R. Rehman and we can say without a doubt this is definitely going to be THE love story flick of 2019. (4) Bollywood's Remake Of 'Red' © Summit Entertainment Anil Kapoor is all set to produce the Hindi remake of the Hollywood adventure film 'Red' which starred Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Karl Urban and Mary-Louise Parker. The plot for 'Red' revolved around a black-ops agent who reassembles his own team in a last-ditch effort to uncover assailants. Although the cast hasn't been announced for the remake, we would surely love to see Anil in the main role. The film will be directed by Abhinay Deo, the director for '24' and it's set to release sometime in 2020. (5) Bollywood's Remake Of 'Begin Again' © The Weinstein Company The Keira Knightley-Mark Ruffalo musical starrer 'Begin Again' will be in the making soon enough. Although the cast hasn't been announced yet, we do know it'll be directed by 'Veere Di Wedding' director Shashanka Ghosh. The basic plot revolves around telling a story about the world of music and fresh voices in sound in the Indian scene. Can't wait to see how this pans out! We're not sure when the movie is releasing yet but our money is on the year 2020. So, here we have it. 5 super-cool remakes currently in the pipeline. It's always great to draw inspiration from some good stories and if Bollywood happens to so that from time to time, it's a good thing. They shouldn't mess up the remake though by making it seem shoddy, because then you're just insulting the original film!
  3. Priyanka Chopra is all set to get back to work after a month-long break courtesy her big fat Indian wedding to beau Nick Jonas. The beautiful couple tied the knot last month and had multiple receptions post that with a few vacations thrown in as well. View this post on Instagram And then.. there was only him... ð A post shared by Priyanka Chopra Jonas (@priyankachopra) on Jan 11, 2019 at 10:07am PST View this post on Instagram Happiness in the mountains â° â¤ï¸ð A post shared by Priyanka Chopra Jonas (@priyankachopra) on Dec 29, 2018 at 7:54am PST She also made an appearance on the most-watched talk show, 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' and spoke about her life post-marriage and her future plans as well, which include her next big Hollywood project which she will not only act in, but will also be producing it. Priyanka is all set to essay the controversial figure Ma Anand Sheela. Priyanka Chopra developing a movie with academy award nominee Berry Levinson. PRODUCING AND STARRING TAKE ALL MY MONEY @priyankachopra pic.twitter.com/lrBfgqcnyN — #jess (@hipslikePC) January 30, 2019 Ma Anand Sheela was the spokesperson and the woman in power for the Rajneesh Movement which was led by the controversial spiritual figure Osho. Divulging more details about the project, PC said, “I am developing a feature with Barry Levinson. He is an iconic American director. We are developing it (from the perspective of) Sheela who is this guru who originated from India. She was his right-hand woman and she was devious. She created a whole cult in America. He was called Osho. I don't know if you've heard of him. I am developing that next for me to star in and produce”. © Netflix Ma Anand Sheela and Osho's relationship was explored and viewers were given a visual representation of what exactly happened, when the entire cult moved from India to Oregon and the rise and fall of the Rajneesh movement happened post that. Barry Levinson is an Academy Award-winning director and is the man behind successful movies like 'Rain Man', 'Bugsy' and 'The Natural'. This could be a turning page for Priyanka as it would be a completely new area for her to explore. This would also be her second biopic after 'Mary Kom' and well, what can we say, we are so ready for it!
  4. They say a true man is shaped not only by his success, or his wealth but also by the goodness that's in his heart. It's not determined by his possessions but only if he shares them with the world for the betterment of mankind. Hollywood, for one, is blessed with philanthropists who have gone the extra mile to give back to the society to be remembered for their goodness. Here are five Hollywood icons who continue their efforts of making the world a better place, one good thing at a time: George Clooney George Clooney is well known for his engagement to stop the human rights atrocities in the Darfur region of Sudan. Clooney founded the Not On Our Watch with his 'Ocean's 11' co-stars Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, and Brad Pitt, and producer Jerry Weintraub, which works to uplift the suffering populations of Sudan. His charity has donated millions of dollars to help those suffering in the region. Clooney was named the United Nations Messenger of Peace in 2008, to help raise public awareness, and support for the U.N's peacekeeping efforts around the world. Hugh Jackman The Wolverine star started The Laughing Man Foundation, which through its chain of coffee shops, supports coffee farming communities across the world by investing in programs that focus on health, growth, and success for coffee farmers and their families. Started after a promise made by the star to his friend, an Ethiopian coffee farmer, Dukale and his family, the Foundation works for supporting the production of sustainable coffee and communities associated with it. Leonardo DiCaprio Since 1998 The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation has been working to protect threatened ecosystems with a focus on Wildlands Conservation, Oceans Conservation and Climate Change. With over 50 million followers, the star's impactful work was recognized when he was designated as the United Nations Messenger of Peace for Climate Change and received the 2014 Clinton Global Citizen Award. Following the notion of great deeds, here's a striking video by Seagram's 100 Pipers Music CDs, that reminds us that the greatest legacy one can leave behind, is an act of goodness – an act that makes the world a better place. Matt Damon Actor-producer-screenwriter, Matt Damon started H2O Africa in an attempt to mitigate the water crisis in Africa and gather support for clean water programs in critical areas. His organization merged later with Water.org that focuses on providing clean water to underprivileged across the world. He is also an ambassador for ONEXONE, a non-profit foundation committed to supporting, preserving and improving the lives of children. Will Smith The MIB star with his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, founded the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation to benefit inner-city community development, youth educational projects and underprivileged children and their families. He has also supported several charitable organizations that work in South Africa. Heartwarming, isn't it?
  5. Video game revenue has been on the rise for the past few years and it reached a new peak of $43.8 billion. That's 18% up from previous year and has surpassed the projected total global box office number for movies. The numbers were released by the reliable NDP group and Entertainment Software Association. In fact, we predicted this over two years ago as games like GTA V, Fortnite, Fifa 19, PUBG and others are literally taking over the world. The increase in Video Games revenue could be attributed to a variety of factors. Free-to-play games such as Fortnite, PUBG Mobile and even AAA games have implemented micro-transactions in their games that may have resulted in an 18% revenue increase. In fact, Fortnite made almost $3 billion in profit last year. The same could be said about PUBG as the game also managed to rake in a $1 billion in revenue in 2018. Last year, it was projected that global box office revenue from around the world would hit $41.7 billion, according to comScore data. In fact, Video game revenues also surpass streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime where it is estimated to rake in $28.8 billion. Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix said in a shareholder letter “We compete with (and lose to) Fortnite more than HBO,” the company's shareholder letter stated. “When YouTube went down globally for a few minutes in October, our viewing and signups spiked for that time…There are thousands of competitors in this highly fragmented market vying to entertain consumers and low barriers to entry for those with great experiences.” According to te NPD group analyst Mat Piscatella, revenue in video games comes from a variety of sources i.e. hardware sales, micro-transactions, digital and physical game sales and mobile gaming. With keeping trends in mind, the video game revenue will steadily increase in 2019 and 2020 thanks to new consoles launching soon and blockbuster games like Anthem, The Division 2, and Death Stranding are on the horizon. 7. The horror movie genre always works on a hit-and-miss technique. It always depends on whether or not the movie makes you sit at the edge of your seat through its scare tactics or just makes you yawn instead. This year, we had some good horror to delve into and we were super stoked eagerly awaiting some good movies that released this year. © Universal Pictures Horror as a genre has always intrigued us enough to give us some great cinematic experience. Horror movies are bringing about some great show and talk about different experimental ideas, better visual and sound effects and characters you cannot forget easily, unfortunately. It's quickly becoming the highest grossing story-telling genre and we're loving the enthusiasm with which Hollywood is releasing more and more horror movies every year. Here are 10 best horror movies that released in 2018 that sent a chill down our spine and scared the bejesus out of us! (1) Hereditary Released on: 08 June © A24 The film was very well received at the Sundance Film festival a few months ago and was termed as 'one of the scariest movies to be screened ever'. The movie revolves around the passing away of the matriarch of the Graham family, after which the daughter of the family begins to unravel cryptic and terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the chaotic it gets. There is overindulgence in the plot for sure and it can confuse you a tad bit, but the movie is scary regardless. Watch the trailer here (2) The Predator Released on: 14 September © 20th Century Fox This may not classify as pure horror as much as it would fit the 'alien movie' genre but it still made me scream ever so often. Remember Arnold's 'Predator' from back in 1987? Well, it was remade and it's here to give us more creeps than the one before. Obviously nothing beats watching Arnold in action. Watch the trailer here (3) Truth Or Dare Released on: 08 October © Universal Pictres It's the teeny-bopper kinda horror but it's still scary AF! A group of students rent a house on Halloween which is supposedly haunted by a vengeful spirit who lost a deadly game of truth or dare several years prior. The group gets lured into performing acts of dare which are violent in nature and if they fail to do so, they're eventually haunted and killed by the evil spirit. Watch the trailer here (4) Halloween Released on: 19 October © Universal Pictres Remember the creepy Micheal Myers? Well he's back! One of the few slasher films that came out this year, 'Halloween' is the eleventh installment in the Halloween franchise, picking up 40 years after the events of the previous film. This was one gut-wrenching watch for sure. Watch the trailer here (5) Slender Man Released on: 24 August © Screen Gems Unfortunately, this movie didn't make it here but we still saw it, thanks to the WWW. 'Slender Man' is believed to be a popular and an old legend and the movie revolves around four teenagers who try to break the myth by bringing him to life. Of course, they summon evil instead and that's where it gets nerve wrecking. Watch the trailer here (6) The Clover field Paradox Released On: 04 February © Universal Pictures The Netflix original is a science fiction horror and was one of the first scary movies to have released this year. Scientists are orbiting above the planet to test a device that'll solve an energy crisis and prevent a war from breaking out but they unfortunately encounter a dark alternate-reality instead. Watch the trailer here (7) Slice Released on: 10 September © A24 This one was as funny as it was scary. All I am going to say is that the movie stars Chance the rapper and is about a pizza place, a gateway to hell and werewolves! Watch the trailer here (8) A Quiet Place Released on: 9 March © Paramount Pictures This one too should classify under a Sci-Fi horror but it was so darn scary i had to include it here. Interestingly enough the film has a twisted plot. Mysterious supernatural forces, attracted to sound have surfaced all over the world and a family tries its best to live in a quiet secluded farm away from any noise whatsoever. Dare they make a sound! Watch the trailer here (9) Suspiria Released on: 02 November © Amazon Studios 'Suspiria' didn't release in India but was a well received horror regardless. The movie revolves around a renowned dance company in Berlin which is also accused of witchcraft. As the movie goes on, dark secrets start to reveal themselves which will probably find you sitting at the edge of your seat. Watch the trailer here (10) Mandy Released on: 19 January © RLJE Films This unusual psychedelic horror will give you a good amount of scare and action by Nicolas Cage. Apparently, it's one of his finest work till date, so watch it for that and of course, for the daring psychedelic visuals and the action. Watch the trailer here So, find your perfect horror movie buddy and shortlist the ones you want to watch because we can assure you, this year was one hell of a ride for the horror genre lovers.
  8. Being an ardent fan of movies, I can safely say 2018 was an average year for most genre's. Be it horror, action, comedy, drama or thriller, 2018 didn't accurately nail what the audience was really looking for. The least distorted and clinically organic genre was probably 'action' out of all the others this year and we have movies like 'Hereditary' and 'Spy Who Dumped Me' to prove it! This is also because major studios are bringing out stories from popular comic-books and rehashing them into a 'Marvel'-lous cinematic experience for us all. I mean, what 'Avengers: Infinity War' did for the action genre, cannot be replicated by any other movie for its respective genre! © Paramount Pictures In lieu of that, let's take a look at the ten best actions flicks to have come out this year. If you haven't caught any or have watched just a few from the list, it's time you do so, because SC-FI extravaganzas wait for no one! (1) Avengers: Infinity War © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures You obviously know the story by now and if you don't, why haven't you watched it yet? I think it was the greatest movie of 2018 where the Avengers come together to fight their biggest enemy yet- Thanos, while he's on a mission to collect the infinity stones. Watch the trailer here (2) Deadpool 2 © 20th Century Fox Apart from some superhero humour, 'Deadpool 2' also has a raw X-Men spin-off and the fact that Deadpool almost dies (oops). The movie is him collaborating with a bunch of mutants to save an angry teenage mutant from Cable- a genetically enhanced soldier from the future. Watch the trailer here (3) Beirut © Bleecker Street A U.S. diplomat is called back to Beirut to save a colleague from a group that is possibly responsible for his family's death. A typical action-packed drama. Watch the trailer here (4) Tomb Raider © Warner Bros. Pictures The revamped and brand new 'Tomb Raider' sans Angelina Jolie made for a thrilling watch TBH. The younger version-Alicia Vikander- did a fairly decent job of playing Lara Croft who's out to find her father on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan. Watch the trailer here (5) A Quiet Place © Paramount Pictures This one's a SCI-FI alright but it'll make you sit right on the edge of your seat! The movie revolves around a town invaded by some sort of aliens species that can't see but have a heightened sense of sound instead and they attack and kill if they hear any sound at all. The only way to do away with them is to obviously kill them but that's a tricky one and I won't reveal how they do it, you just have to watch the fabulous ending. Watch the trailer here (6) The Commuter © StudioCanal UK Just as Liam Neeson announced his retirement from action/thriller films because he felt he's too old to play an action hero anymore (hear that Shah Rukh?) we saw him in what we assume is his last thriller, 'The Commuter'. The film seems enticing enough to hold our attention and it unfurls a dramatic criminal conspiracy that Neeson is badly stuck in (as per usual). Watch the trailer here (7) Black Panther © Walt Disney Studios T'challa returns home to Wakanda only to wade off enemies who are a threat to his nation. You know the rest! Watch the trailer here (8) Mission Impossible- Fallout © Paramount Pictures I wouldn't have put this on the list had it not had an Indian connection! Yup, they mentioned Kashmir for the most part of it but it wasn't as impressive as the other MI instalments have been in the past. But since Cruise is back for another action-packed thriller, I had to include it! Watch the trailer here (9) Annihilation © Netflix A Netflix original, it stars Natalie Portman and it's one of the scariest Sci-Fi horrors I've seen this year. A former cellular biology professor loses her husband in a mysterious way and goes through hell and back to find out the truth! Watch the trailer here (10) Mandy © RLJE Films This unusual psychedelic horror will give you some good amount of action by Nicolas Cage. Apparently, it's one of his finest work till date, so watch it for that and of course, for the daring psychedelic visuals and the action. Watch the trailer here So, there we have it. The top ten best action flicks of the year. Of course, our opinion is subjective so if you have something better that you've seen, you can always comment below! But for now, definitely cue the ones you've missed out before the year ends!
  9. Playboy owner Hugh Hefner lived a colourful life and the people associated closely with him also benefited from it. When the 91-year-old died, he left his Hollywood Hills pad to his 32-year-old widow Crystal Harris, who has now found a buyer for it and has reportedly sold it off for $5.5 million, which is approximately around Rs 40 crores. © Instagram The former Playboy playmate and Hugh Hefner's widow, Harris, had initially listed the pad for around $7.2 million and the pictures of the house are amazing! © Instagram © Instagram Besides a lovely pool and a classy living area, the four bedroom pad has a view to kill. © Instagram © Instagram The interiors are mostly white and the pad looks very serene. © Instagram © Instagram The exterior view of 5,717 square feet pad is like a magnet. One look and you wish it could be yours. I mean, who wouldn't like to live here? © Instagram © Instagram If only we could buy it, life would be a little more sorted!
  10. Action movies are a great watch if you're really into some heavy duty stuff. I know a lot of peeps love spending a lot of time doing some crazy action movie marathons. But we've all seen those marathons, haven't we? Be it 'Die Hard' or the 'Bourne Series' or even 'Kill Bill', 'Terminator' etc. we've cued them together sometime in our life and binge watched them till we've had enough! © Warner Bros. Pictures But let's just focus on the lesser known action flicks you can spend your weekend watching instead . After all, it's our job to make your weekend a bit more interesting isn't it? Here are 7 underrated action flicks you can cue for the weekend. (1) IP Man (2008) © Mandarin Films 'IP Man' is a biographical martial arts movie based on the life of IP man, the grandmaster of martial arts-Wing Chun, who was also Bruce Lee's teacher. The modern classic action flick truly has us believing that Donnie Yen can take on an entire mob all my himself! Definitely watch this one if you're heavy into martial arts. (2) Ong Bak 2: The beginning (2009) © Sahamongkol Film International 'Ong Bak 2' is a follow up to the first part- Muay Thai Warrior and as the name suggests it's another Thai martial arts movie starring Tony Jaa. Although the names are the same, 'Ong Bak 2' has nothing much to do with the first part and is set in 15th Century Thailand, and is a fully fledged take on a historical epic, with a few elements of fantasy combined. 'Ong Bak 2' remains the single best showcase for Jaa's abilities as a great martial artist. You can literally see him beating up half the population of Thailand, with the help of his partner of course! (3) Haywire (2011) © Relativity Media With a kickass cast, 'Haywire' is a great watch if you want some sorted action flick for the weekend. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the movie revolves around Mallory Kane (Gina Carano), who works for a company that handles sensitive 'black operations'. The movie is in the same vein as the Bourne franchise , with more understated and fierce fight scenes. Gina Carano gives a stellar performance though, with her willingness to perform her own stunts, giving the actions sequences more authenticity. (4) Dredd (2012) © Lionsgate 'Dredd' is based on the 2000 AD comic strip Judge Dredd and if you've read the comics you'd know how classic this movie really is. Directed by Pete Travis, the movie unfortunately didn't fair too well because it released simultaneously with 'The Dark Knight Rises' and 'The Avengers'. But fans will remain faithful of course since it's the best adaptation of the Judge Dredd comics. (5) The Grey (2012) © Open Road Films 'The Grey' is directed by Joe Carnahan and it stars Liam Neeson, Frank Grilo and Dermont Mulroney. The story is about number of 'oil-men', stranded in Alaska after a plane crash, who have to fight grey wolves who're out to get them amidst extremely cold weather conditions! The movie is the fight for survival and no one could have done it better than Neeson himself. I mean, he's the only middle-aged action hero who still looks good on camera and this movie surely falls in the same league as 'Taken'! (6) Edge Of Tomorrow (2014) © Warner Bros. Pictures 'Edge of Tomorrow' is a science fiction film starring Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise. The screenplay is adapted from a Japanese novel called 'All You Need Is Kill'. The film is futuristic and shows most of Europe invaded by Aliens. With some great action sequences, the film deserved a lot more love than it got back in 2014. But it's a great watch regardless. (7) Everly (2015) © Dimension Films The film has Salma Hayek, who obviously steals the show any given day! The film didn't have a chance to make it in the league of some popular action movies but it definitely has Hayek proving that she can play a gun-toting action heroine without any trouble. The movie revolves around her being a *** slave for the brutal Japanese criminal overlord Taiko, until Taiko realises she's been working with the police to bring his cartel down. So we've given you one busy weekend in front of your television sets/laptops, to binge watch these crazy and very underrated action movies. If you make out alive by the end of the weekend, you know you've had a successful run!
  11. People take 'inspiration' from Hollywood movies, but who do Hollywood directors look up to for ideas? Don't look far, the answer is Asian cinema. Here is a list of 8 Hollywood movies that we didn't know were a copy of some of the most iconic Asian films: 1. Oldboy (2013) Directed by Spike Lee, this American movie is a not-so-successful remake of Park Chan-wook's iconic 2003 release 'Oldboy'. 'Oldboy' is a neo-noir action thriller about a man, who sets out to find out why he was kidnapped and kept inside a cell for 15 years, unravelling some disturbing secrets in his journey. The South Korean version is considered to be one of the finest movies ever made, but the American one starring Josh Brolin sadly failed to recreate the same magic. Show East / Vertigo Entertainment 2. Possession (2009) 'Possession' is a copy of the 2003 South Korean movie 'Addicted'. The movie is about a woman, whose life takes a shocking turn when both her husband and brother-in-law meet with an accident; and her brother-in-law claims that he's her husband after waking up from a coma. Although the ending of 'Possession' is different, the makers have created an alternate ending as well, that is similar to the original one. Cine-2000 Film Production / Vertigo Entertainment 3. The Uninvited (2009) It is a remake of the South Korean psychological horror movie, 'A Tale Of Two Sisters'. The movie is about a patient, recently released from a mental asylum, who returns home with her sister. They soon start to experience disturbing events involving their stepmother and the ghosts haunting their house. B.O.M. Film Productions Co. / DreamWorks Pictures 4. Mirrors (2008) This supernatural horror film is a remake of the 2003 South Korean film 'Into The Mirror'. The movie revolves around a former detective, who comes across a mysterious mirror, which forces people to do horrible things to themselves. CJ Entertainment / 20th Century Fox 5. The Lake House (2006) Starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, 'The Lake House' is an American remake of 2000 movie 'Il Mare'. The movie revolves around an architect living in 2004 and a doctor living in 2006, who communicate with each other with the help of a mailbox of the house they both lived in at separate time zones. Dream Venture / Village Roadshow Pictures 6. The Grudge (2004) This American supernatural horror film is a remake of the 2002 film 'Jun-On: The Grudge'. It talks about an evil curse that is 'born when someone dies in the grip of a powerful rage or extreme sorrow.' This curse is repeatedly passed from one victim to another, leading to a growing chain of deaths and endless horror. Nikkatsu / Ghost House Pictures 7. The Ring (2002) Starring Naomi Watts and David Dorfman, 'The Ring' is the American remake of hit 1998 Japanese horror film 'Ring' or 'Ringu'. It talks about a reporter who is on the run to investigate the mystery behind a cursed videotape that kills the viewer 7 days after watching it. Ringu/Rasen Production Committee / DreamWorks Pictures 8. Shutter (2008) 'Shutter' is the remake of 2004 Thai supernatural horror movie of the same name. This movie revolves around a photographer, who discovers mysterious shadows in his photographs. Phenomena Motion Pictures / Vertigo Entertainment
  12. In 2018, Hollywood offered multiple high octane action blockbuster movies to the audience ranging from superheroes, sci-fi, fantasy and horror genres. Considering the films which released in Indian theatres, here is the best films of Hollywood so far. Black Panther Ryan Coogler's Black Panther was a game-changer in the superhero genre since it tried to rise above any another superhero film. By infusing the rich African culture in its narrative, Black Panther was unlike any other commercial Hollywood film. © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures With Black Panther, Ryan Coogler pushed T'Challa, the king beyond his own doubts and fears as he was facing a mightier villain played by Michael Jordan. He also gave us Shuri and Okoye, the gutsy female supporting characters who would help Wakanda in times of post Infinity Wars crisis. The only let-down about the film was the story, which was just another Baahubali staged drama. Incredibles 2 14 years after the first film released, Incredibles 2 brought back the same charm of a family of superheroes with dollops of humor. The highlight of the film is little Jack Jack who stole our hearts away with his unlimited superpowers. © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures While the animation was on point, the story could have been improvised but blame it to the shuffling of the release dates with Toy Story 4. We hope Brad Bird gives us an incredibly great Incredibles 3 in just a span of few years. Ready Player One Set in 2045 - Columbus City of Ohio, Steven Spielberg's new virtual reality adventure gets your attention from the word 'GO'. Imagination is the key to a brilliant execution and Ready Player One is a rare example of cinematic achievement in the visuals department since Avatar. With extensive use of some amazing concepts and elements, this film was best experienced in IMAX 3D. © Warner Bros. Pictures Even though the film is set in 2045, the story relies heavily on experiences and our childhood wonders from 1990s to our present (the advent of virtual reality). Spielberg is here for sort of a redemption since his last visual tryst with The BFG didn't fly and here he is keen to take you on one of its kind of a helluva ride. Avengers: Infinity War The film is more like a chessboard where Avengers, a team of 22 superheroes join hands against Thanos and The Black Order. In all these 10 years, Marvel has been setting up this chessboard quite well and puts all together while raising the stakes with enough check-mate moments. © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures What Avengers Infinity Wars does extremely well is that it establishes Thanos as a supreme villain who quests to deliver 'mercy' without mercy. The characters are put to test in every scene which brings out the complexity in their own personal lives and superhero powers. This movie connects and balances the story arcs across all characters. On a separate note, with 2 Sherlock minds put together Avengers 4 will be great watch. A Quiet Place Horror is a very tricky genre where a compelling story, ample scares and logic can hardly fit together. A Quiet Place is a rare feet in the horror genre as it ravels you in its well-crafted narrative by scaring you from a plot that quizzes your brain and raises your heartbeat rather than throwing ghosts at you in your face. The film works mostly for the way the story is told through its spine chilling technique. © Paramount Pictures The story only rises through each and every scene with its crisply written narrative and drawing the different characters just relevant to the theme which the film wishes to explore. There is no unnecessary baggage here as it chose to go without a background to the story. John Krasinski, the director puts you right there alongside himself and his family just like last years' Dunkirk. His direction is perfect in every frame as he leaves his audience in sheer shock every moment of the film.
  13. A war is definitely the worst thing to witness and it takes a toll on nations, however war movies are quite entertaining and their depiction of the conflict helps us in understanding our past. Apart from the adrenaline you experience whilst watching one, you also get a brief dose of a piece of historical significance, because almost all wars depicted in movies are based on true events. © columbia pictures For our Netflix (and other entertainment websites) weekend recommendation this time, we have picked out some excellent war movies you can binge watch to build on that adrenaline and make most of the weekend. Laugh, cry or just feel the rush of blood, whatever you do, don't call it quits in the middle of watching one. Here are 7 awesome war movies to binge-watch with or without Netflix this weekend: (1) Inglorious Basterds (2009) © Universal Pictures While this may not be Tarantino's best, it still has elements of blood and gore to add to your weekend. It's about a hypothetical scenario during World War II and Tarantino's band of vigilantes are out saving the day for everyone! Christopher Waltz won an Oscar for his performance in this movie and we haven't stopped watching him since. Definitely should be on your list of movies to cue! Watch the trailer here (2) The Imitation Game (2014) © Universal Pictures This one's definitely one of my favourites for sure. Alan Turing is up on the list of the world's most important computer scientists ever, because he's invented the Turing Test, which evaluates AI's abilities to destroy us all! Before he invented the Turing Test though, he was part of World War II as a British code breaker of the Germans transmissions. The drama is based on real events, of course, and Benedict Cumberbatch is as awesome as you can imagine him to be, in Turing's role. Watch the trailer here (3) Atonement (2007) © Universal Pictures So you thought 'Pearl Harbour' is the only romantic war movie that's out there? Definitely check out 'Atonement', a romantic epic based on a soldier who is sent off to fight in the WWII, and he finds himself in the middle of Britain's retreat from the Germans on the shores of Dunkirk beach. The heartbreaking story also depicts a love angle and separation between the soldier and his love, played by James McAvoy and Keira Knightley. Watch the trailer here (4) Dunkirk (2017) © Warner Bros. Pictures Of course, this movie had to be on the list. 'Dunkirk' depicts the Dunkirk evacuation during the World War II and portrays the evacuation in the movie through three perspectives: land, sea and air. The film is shot exceptionally and tells the tale as it is. So if you didn't catch it in cinemas last year, definitely find a copy online. Watch the trailer here (5) Black Hawk Down (2001) © Columbia Pictures Do you just want to watch an unadulterated 90-minute action flick? Then this is your film. You'll probably still hear the war in your head, long after the movie is over! Yes, it's that intense. This Ridley Scott movie is based on a non-fiction book, which was released in 1999, written by Mark Bowden. The story revolves around a 1993 raid in Mogadishu by the U.S. Military, aimed at catching faction leader Mohamed Farrah Aidid. The film has a great cast and it's definitely worth a watch. Watch the trailer here (6) Schindler's List (1993) © Universal Pictures The list wouldn't be complete without this one being here. I mean, it's only the truest and fairest depiction of the horrific genocide massacre. Spielberg made sure to keep the human element of empathy alive when he made the film. The film does have a beautiful story but I won't reveal that here. I know this has been on your 'movies to watch' list for a while, so you should get around to watching it. Watch the trailer here (7) The Hurt Locker (2008) © Summit Entertainment This one's a war thriller, and I am only putting this on the list because very little films have depicted the true reality of the state of affairs during the American-Iraq war. The film is about an Iraq War Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team, who are targeted by insurgents and it shows their psychological frame of mind during the war. While war is addictive as drugs to some, it's a torture for the others. Watch the trailer here I may not have put some really epic war movies in this list and even though this isn't a random selection of war movies, it's a well thought out attempt to get you hooked to some real time movies, that need to be watched before going over to more intense ones. So, binge away with these this weekend and we'll come back with a fresh list of more war movies, soon!
  14. Tiger Shroff might not have a plethora of hits under his belt but he surely has a reputation of a successful star and that is why everyone is betting their money on him. View this post on Instagram #soty2 #climaxcomplete #exhausted #bts A post shared by Tiger Shroff (@tigerjackieshroff) on Sep 3, 2018 at 5:18am PDT After the raving success of 'Baaghi 2', rumour has it that the action hero has apparently caught Hollywood's eye. According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Lawrence Kasanoff, producer of the 'Mortal Combat' series, flew down to Mumbai to seal the deal with Tiger for a prestigious project. “Along with Larry, a big studio head, some of their associates and Emmy Award-winning writer Sean Catherine Derek of the Batman series had also flown to India. Sanjay Grover, who has been a part of the project for the last one year, was also present at the meetings. Larry shared the script of his film with Sanjay who suggested they bring on board a fresh new face to play the lead and strongly recommended his childhood buddy Tiger with whom he had studied in school. Larry and his team were impressed with Tiger who they felt has an international look, is trained in martial arts, has a large fan following and has age on his side”, as per the sources. View this post on Instagram No that's not a yoga pose but its relaxing and it should be ð #internationalyogaday A post shared by Tiger Shroff (@tigerjackieshroff) on Jun 21, 2018 at 7:32am PDT The source further added that “This could be the biggest break for an Indian actor in a big budget, mainstream Hollywood film which could spin into a worldwide Intellectual Property Franchise like Mortal Kombat. Casting an Indian actor in the main lead in a Hollywood film is a first for Larry too”. Tiger is currently gearing up for'Rambo' and knowing his existing skills, we are pretty sure the man can give any action dude a run for his money.
  15. Who doesn't like a good ol' classic like '8 Mile?' Yeah, it's a classic. If you disagree with me we can take the fight outside! Just like that, there are a lot of Hollywood movies which have used music videos to up the interest quotient in their movies. Getting a big name to do the title song for your movie will all but guarantee the people watch it, right? If only it were so. There have been many misses in this regard but for today, we're only going to focus on the ones that worked. These music videos didn't just generate interest in the movies they were associated with, they became superhits on their own. Again, I'm digressing. The only thing we're interested in here is how good these music videos are at making people go and watch the movie they are associated with. It's a list based purely on how a song makes you feel, so bear with me for a bit. You might not agree with my choices, but before you tear into me in the comments, listen to the songs. They might just change your mind. Also, use good headphones/earphones please. Using crap listening devices will doing an injustice to these songs… 1. '8 Mile' – Lose Yourself Every 13-year-old kid who was able to convince his/her parents to get them this cassette when it came out is a legend! But, back then, little did we know that there was a music video and an entire movie we could watch too. Yeah, the internet wasn't what it is today. Forget exams, the only thing that mattered was memorising the lyrics. The clocks run out. Times out. Over. Blao! I could rap the whole thing at one point. No lies! Could you? Anyway, the fact remains that Eminem is a Rap God and if you haven't watched '8 Mile' yet, there's no better time than now! If you have, I don't need to convince you to watch it again! 2. 'Dangerous Minds' – Gangsta's Paradise Everyone has heard this song. You haven't? Of course, you have! Just give it a listen: But, did you know that it was originally made for the movie 'Dangerous Minds?' Not many people do. Why? The movie wasn't the greatest. Even Michelle Pfeiffer couldn't make it work. The song, on the other hand, broke all sorts of records and even won Coolio a Grammy. Still, the movie is pretty bad. It's the only movie on this list I'd not recommend you giving a watch! 3. 'Black Panther' – Pray For Me There's no denying two things here. This is the coolest looking video on this list and 'Black Panther' is the highest earning movie on this list. I don't even need to brag about this one. The music video will make you appreciate it on its own. So, instead of writing, I'm just gonna watch the video with all of you: 4. 'Ghostbusters' – Ghostbusters It took a lot of effort to convince myself to start writing again. The only thing I want to do right now, is watch 'Black Panther.' But, we all have jobs and sometimes they suck. Just kidding, I love my job. Anyway, on to Ghostbusters. First, I'm not talking about the movie that released in 2016. I'm talking about the original. Still not clear? This should help: Before you comment on the video, bear in mind that it was released in 1984. I'd say it's pretty revolutionary when you take that into account. Did Ray Parker Jr. know his song was going to become one of the most easily recognisable songs in history? No. Does he mind? Hell no! After this one, all I can say is 'Ghostbusting makes me feel good!' 5. 'Rocky III' – Eye Of The Tiger Let's face it. By the time 'Rocky II' was over, people weren't expecting too much from 'Rocky III'. Why? He's defeated Creed. He's a champion. It's only downhill from there. Or so we thought. They found a way to make Rocky the underdog once more. He was past his prime and facing a hungry new-comer. But, what sealed it for the movie has got to be the song. The song that is part of everyone's gym playlist. It's not a part of yours? It has to be. Add it now! Everyone wants a ripped body like young Sylvester Stallone. Don't fool yourself! You do too! This song is the only way to get it! 6. 'Lego Movie' – Everything Is Awesome The first time I heard this song, it blew my mind. The 'Lego Movie' blew my mind. It was so much better than expected. Part of it has to do with the awesome theme song. When Batman approves! You better get on board! I'm so pumped right now it's not funny! Everything is awesome! Be careful with this one. It can make even the crappiest of days feel awesome. 7. 'Men In Black II' – Nod Ya Head Okay, this is a personal favourite. Not sure if everyone will agree. For me, Will Smith is an icon. I don't care what you have to say about him or his kids. For me, he will always be the kid from 'The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air' who became a Hollywood superstar! He deserves my respect and yours too. I give him props for sticking to his rap career even after becoming a superstar. Check out his charisma: His rap career did come full circle when he did the theme song for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Congratulations Will. But, I'll still remember him for this one. The first 'Men In Black' theme song was pretty cool too. But, this one is just better. Why? It makes me want to watch all 3 movies. Yeah, you heard me right, all 3 movies! 8. 'Saturday Night Fever' – Stayin' Alive The last music video on this list is here for just one reason, and that is to show the world how far a young John Travolta can take anything. Just look at the beautiful man: This wasn't supposed to be the last video on the list but screw it. I have to go rewatch all of John Travolta's work now. The man is a legend. If I keep going this will become a John Travolta appreciation post. So, I'm out. Figure out which of these movies you're going to watch first. Have a great day!
  16. Among the huge pool of actors we have in India and in Bollywood, a number of them have made their way to Hollywood, doing great things all over the world and getting recognition from the entire world. Priyanka Chopra is the biggest example of this; she's probably one of the most recognized Indians all over the globe and everyone outside of India loves her. But, there's one person we are yet to see make his Hollywood debut and it's quite surprising it hasn't happened yet. I'm obviously talking about King Khan, the biggest name in Bollywood who has admirers everywhere. You can hate him, but you can't deny the fact that he's a damn good actor and that's what matters. He's self-made man and his humility always shows, along with his wittiness and that's exactly how he answered when asked the important question about Hollywood movies. Recently, while talking to Economics Times, he was asked if he would consider Hollywood as an option, since his peers “like Naseeruddin Shah, Irrfan Khan and Priyanka Chopra have acted in Hollywood films”. It's so great that his response didn't show any arrogance or excuses, he just said, “They have to look at me; I can't look at them. I look at the moon every day, but I don't reach for it.” He also complimented all the actors who are doing great things and making India proud. He said, “It started with Om Puriji and now Priyanka, Irrfan and so many others are doing it. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is getting some films. Amitji (Amitabh Bachchan) has done some, Anupam Kher too has and it's wonderful.” Then he said that he's actually never been offered an opportunity as well, which I find extremely hard to believe. “But I have never been offered an opportunity. I don't even know if I am good enough to do it — I think my English is a little weak (smiles).” See, King Khan and his wit, the best duo ever. Then he went on to say he just wants to make great movies and turn things around here, he said, “My own attempt is to make Indian films watched at that level. Again, not taking away from the greatness of anything that others have achieved, I'd like Tom Cruise to say one day that 'I've been given a chance in a Hindi film'. Man, that will be wonderful. Christopher Nolan would say that there is a producer in India who wants him to make a film. Inshallah, that will happen.” Now, that's good thinking. Things need to change for the better, and hopefully that will happen soon.
  17. What do you do when you are home on a holiday and your mind starts wandering off after an exhausting Netflix marathon? Clearly, you begin the hunt for something more exciting and crazy. Well, we're happy to help you in your search for some quality content, with this compact list of Hollywood revenge thrillers that will keep you hanging till the end (in a good way, unlike your ex) : 1. John Wick: This franchise has a lot of devoted fans, with Keanu Reeves acting as the badass hitman whose only goal is seeking revenge, as he hunts down the murderers of his beloved wife. 2. The Revenant: Leonardo DiCaprio broke the jinx and took home a well deserved Oscar so naturally, this will be on the list. Based on the fantastic novel written by Michael Punke, 'The Revenant' follows the story of the legendary frontiersman Hugh Glass, who is abandoned by his crew following a bear attack, and returns to seek revenge from his companions who betrayed him. 3. Machete: It might give you some kind of a catharsis relief when you see an Army veteran going crazy over his former boss, who actually tried to get him assassinated. He even kidnaps Machete's daughter and gets his wife killed and that leads to the ultimate revenge chase. 4. Mad Max (1979): This Australian dystopian thriller follows the story of Max Rockatansky, a patrol officer, who due to circumstances, turns into a cold-blooded revenge seeker. Mel Gibson does a fabulous job in chasing the gang of goons and later finding himself at the hands of vengeance when the gangster's friend seeks to avenge his mate's death. 5. Point Blank: This is the movie which in a way inspired 'John Wick'. Marvin is a bloodthirsty gangster who returns to seek revenge from everyone who left him to die in a huge corruption organization.
  18. “Who am I to say no to Hollywood? You know, everybody wants to be a movie star,” Shaq told Hollywood Reporter in an interview recently. The man who is often referred to as the most powerful center in the history of the NBA is quite the opposite off-court. He loves interacting with the fans and there's no better way of giving it back, than Hollywood. © Getty Images Big Shaq has had quite an illustrious tryst with Hollywood, to say the least, and while his prime playing days are past him, it doesn't look like he's giving up on Hollywood any time soon. Being called the 'Wilt Chamberlain of the modern game' is no mean feat. O'Neal demanded respect on the courts and boy, did he get it. With 4 NBA Championships to his name, you can't deny that he deserved it either. But, what's all this popularity if you don't put it to use, right? The only logical way forward would be to turn to Hollywood. The Rock managed to carve a niche out for himself and is one of the biggest names in show business today. So, why can't Shaq? © Getty Images While Shaq certainly wasn't the first NBA star to work in Hollywood, he's one of the only few to have had lead roles in multiple movies. With 23.7 ppg and 10.9 rpg, Shaq is undoubtedly a legend of the game. But, will he become a legend in Hollywood? Here's a look at what he's been a part of so far, and what we can expect from him in the future: Appears As Himself We're going to get this out of the way up front. Shaq has appeared in countless movies and TV shows as himself. He was a popular guy. You can't blame producers for wanting to add one of the most bankable stars in the NBA to their shows/movies. © Buena Vista International He has appeared as himself in 'The Lego Movie,' 'Scary Movie 4,' 'Curb Your Enthusiasm,' 'My Wife & Kids,' 'Fresh Off The Boat' and 'The Simpsons' to name a few. But, you don't get to show off your acting skills while playing yourself, right? So, let's move past these appearances and look at the times when Shaq was acting. Blue Chips (1994) A proper basketball movie that deals with the illegal practice of paying “blue-chip” prospects to entice them to join a college. It's a pretty serious film and was Shaq's first major role in a movie. © Paramount Pictures There were cameos by a number of other prominent basketball stars too and with Nick Nolte at the helm, the movie looked promising. Unfortunately, the movie failed to recover its budget of $35 million falling short by $12 million. Kazaam (1996) This was Shaq's first starring role in a Hollywood production. He played the genie Kazaam and helps a boy by the name of Max sort out his life. There are some hilarious scenes in this movie and even though the audience might not have been laughing at the movie, but at Shaq himself, it was a fun movie from our youth which is worth reminiscing. It fared a lot better at the box office almost earning its budget of $20 million back. The movie even had a rap song from the 7ft 1in center. If that doesn't sell movie tickets, we don't know what will. Steel (1997) Before there was 'Iron-Man', we had 'Steel'. Yes, Shaquille O'Neal was way ahead of the curve in terms of superhero movies. He played the DC character John Henry Irons and was slammed by critics and fans alike for being too cheesy. © Warner Bros. It was certainly a new low for Shaq and it looked like he could never recover from it. The movie earned just $1.7 million on a $16 million budget. Shaq lent his voice to the soundtrack of this one too but it was already evident that audiences liked him more for his dunks than his acting. Grown Ups 2 (2013) Okay, you aren't going to get an Oscar-winning movie when Adam Sandler is involved. But, that doesn't mean we don't get a few laughs out of it. © Sony Pictures Releasing We finally got to see Shaq in a high budget Hollywood production in this one and even though he only has a few minutes of screen time it's enough to prove he can act. His scenes are hilarious and 'Grown Ups 2' was enough to convince us that we needed to see more of him on the big screen. Uncle Drew (2018) The movie only recently released and looks like one of Shaq's best. In less than a week, it's already earned almost double of its $17 million budget and that's a pretty good sign of how good it is. © Lionsgate 'Uncle Drew' is proof that Shaq can also entertain a movie audience. All he needs to do is focus on making the movie, instead of trying to plug in his basketball days. Well, this movie is about basketball anyway so we can't say it would be difficult. But, there's absolutely no world in which we would want to see a 7ft+ genie folding a man into a ball and then dunking him down an air shaft in the finale of a movie. Big Shaq will always be a basketball star for us and all his fans. But, as long as he can keep his basketball career separate from his Hollywood career, there's no reason why Shaq can't make a name for himself in Hollywood or, to say it right, make an even bigger name for himself in Hollywood.
