  1. Marvel fans are in for a treat as the movie is being re-released with 13 minutes of additional footage, titled ‘More Fun Stuff Edition’
  2. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, 73, fled island under military guard in July after huge crowd stormed his official residence
  3. PSL star presenter Erin Holland's love for truck art is evident from number of pictures with objects painted like famous Pakistani trucks
  4. Ajinkya Rahane dropped a bombshell on Thursday when he accused Ravi Shastri and Co of taking credit for the decisions he made during India's historic win over Australia Down Under. Rahane, during an interview with sports journalist Boria Majumdar, had said that "I took the decisions on the field or in the dressing room but someone else took credit for it." The storm that Rahane caused by taking a shot at the 'credit stealers' has not even settled yet and another comment from the same interview has created another stir on social media. "I know what I've done there. I don't need to tell anyone. That's not my nature to go and take credit." Ajinkya Rahane spoke about his pivotal role in India's series win against Australia in 2020-21 https://t.co/7yH2rNuacZ — ICC (@ICC) February 11, 2022 After taking a cryptic dig at the former head coach and others, Rahane's fresh statement that has been doing the rounds is now targeted towards the selectors. The 33-year-old batter last played limited-overs international cricket back in 2018 and he cited lack of game time as the reason behind his diminishing batting prowess. Not getting game time made matters difficult. With no domestic cricket because of covid it became tough. However much you train it is not the same as game time in the middle. @ajinkyarahane88 on #BackstageWithBoria @AgeasFederal pic.twitter.com/W6P9csHfcv — Boria Majumdar (@BoriaMajumdar) February 10, 2022 "I was playing ODI cricket continuously for Team India and I was doing really well. Suddenly, I got dropped, I don't want to go into that, I don't want to go into my past but the reality is I was playing well in 2014, 15, 16, and 17. ODI and Test cricket both were going really well. After that I hardly got game time, there was a huge gap between Test matches," Rahane said. "Sometimes, the reality is, when you play only one format and especially in the last 2-3 years where there is no Ranji cricket and no other domestic games, I think that needs to be taken into account because you can't score runs sitting at home,” he added. While Rahane blamed selection for his string of low scores, fans showed him a mirror by putting out his numbers in white-ball cricket that led to his ouster from the team. And you said that unfortunately you got dropped from White ball team but in reality you got dropped because of your poor performances. Your numbers in red ball cricket are also very very poor from 2016 but still team management is giving back to back chances to you — Gutte Vaibhav (@gutte_vaibhav) February 10, 2022I respect @ajinkyarahane88 but him saying about getting dropped in white ball format is really not nice. His average is 35 in ODI and 20 in T20. 110% we have better players than that for that position and hence he was not looked. #BoriaBackstage #Rahane #IndianCricketTeam — Abhi Panchal (@iamabhi1909) February 10, 2022With due respect … Rahane has served India well but what are his credentials or success stories in t20/ white ball cricket … neither number s as player nor trophy as captian — USom_Cryptos (@USom_Cryptos) February 10, 2022 Rahane's form has been a cause of concern for Team India in the recent past and fans as well as cricket experts have been after his head. The Mumbai-batter will get a chance to get back his form in the upcoming season of Ranji Trophy, in what would be a virtual audition, and keep his place in the Indian Test team for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka at home. 5. There was a huge hype around Spider-Man: No Way Home before the release and it resulted in record-breaking box office numbers. Besides that, the film also received immense critical acclaim. Soon, the Oscar buzz around the film took over the internet as Marvel Studios sent the film for consideration at the 94th Oscars hoping to repeat what Black Panther did when it created history by being the first superhero film to be nominated for Best Picture. © Sony Pictures Unfortunately, Spider-Man: No Way Home wasn’t as lucky as Black Panther. It did, eventually, get an Oscar nomination but in the Visual Effects category. Many people on social media expressed disappointment over Spider-Man: No Way Home not making it to the final 10 Best Picture nominations. Popular late-night chat show host Jimmy Kimmel was one of them. On the February 8 episode of his show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he mocked The Academy for snubbing Spider-Man: No Way Home and nominating Don’t Look Up over it. He blasted The Academy saying, “How did [Spider-Man: No Way Home] not get one of the 10 nominations for best picture? Forget the fact that the movie made $750 million [in the U.S.] and is still going. This was a great movie. It wasn’t in the top 10 best movies of the year? There were three Spider-Men in it. You’re telling me Don’t Look Up was better than Spider-Man? It most certainly was not.” © Netflix Further comparing the two Rotten Tomatoes scores of the two films, he continued, “Even if you go by the critics reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, Don’t Look Up got a 46% and Spider-Man: No Way Home has 90%. For god’s sake, Jackass Forever has an 89%. Why do best picture nominees have to be serious? When did that become a prerequisite for getting nominated for an Academy Award? You wanna know what happened? Voters looked at the list and saw the names Leonardo DiCaprio and Meryl Streep and they checked the box and then they put their kids in the car and went to see the movie Spider-Man. And they loved it! But they didn’t vote for it.” This wasn’t all, Kimmel also mocked The Power of the Dog that got 12 nominations at the 94th Oscars. He said, “The big Oscar nomination leader was The Power of the Dog. It got 12 nominations, one for each of the people who watched it.” © Netflix Several people slammed Jimmy Kimmel stating that he is a Disney employee and that’s why he is criticising other film nominations. One user wrote, “He said this on ABC? A station owned by Disney? The company that owns Marvel? Wow. Lotta coincidences there.” Another tweeted, “The Academy really can’t win, can it? They nominate a big, broad, starry comedy that millions upon millions of people have seen: “No, not popular enough!” They nominate a big, starry sci-fi epic that has made $400 million: “No, too elitist! Marvel or bust!”” One comment read, “He has chosen his side in the Marvel vs Film Twitter war.” © ABC Take a look at some of the responses below: The Academy really can’t win, can it? They nominate a big, broad, starry comedy that millions upon millions of people have seen: “No, not popular enough!” They nominate a big, starry sci-fi epic that has made $400 million: “No, too elitist! Which side are you on? Do you think Spider-Man: No Way Home deserved Best Picture nomination over Don’t Look Up? Let us know in the comments section below. View the full article
  6. As you know, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is heading in a very new and very different direction from how things were back at the time of the blockbuster film Avengers Endgame. Now, the two films that look to be the driving force behind this are Tom Holland's Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Benedict Cumberbatch's Dr. Strange 2: Multiverse Of Madness. © Marvel Studios © Marvel Studios Yep! The Multiverse films have really opened up crazy possibilities, with rumors suggesting the return of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, and others. Add that to the rumors of a new Iron Man which will be played by Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise, the future really looks exciting as hell. However, what after that? We already know that Marvel's top bosses have been negotiating with Tom for another Spider-Man trilogy, and they might just get that, with Tom already speaking about it. We know Tom wants to play Spider-Man still, and well, he has given up a few details on what Marvel's Spider-Man 4 could be like already. Now, speaking about it again, the actor has actually revealed that he would like to team up with one superhero who was seen in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Well, who is it then? Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man or Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man? © Marvel Studios While Tom has hinted that a reunion with the two may be on the cards, however, he disclosed that the one-star he would love to join forces with is Daredevil, played by Charlie Cox. © Netflix Daredevil AKA Matt Murdoch made an appearance in No Way Home as Peter's attorney in what was an epic scene. Well, it turns out Tom is a big fan and would actually like his alter ego Daredevil to fight alongside him in the next Spider-Man film. Speaking with Hollywood Reported, Tom said, "Working with Charlie was incredibly exciting. I was a big fan of the Daredevil series, and I think he’s a fantastic actor. He’s done a wonderful job with that character, and albeit it was a small cameo, it obviously teased the future of what could be." "It was a real actors’ piece, that scene. We blocked the scene, which was essentially us just sitting there, and we read the lines. It was great. It felt like an actors’ workshop while working with people I really look up to, and Charlie was a lot of fun. It was really cool to see him snap back into a character that I am really a fan of and that he has a lot of love for, obviously. So it was pretty awesome, and I hope that one day we find a way for Spider-Man and Daredevil to team up again." Well, there you have it. Wouldn't it be just amazing to see them team up on the big screen as Spider-Man and Daredevil? This one team has it all to take on anyone in the MCU! Source: The Direct View the full article
  7. One of the most iconic moments in cinematic history in recent years was the (not so) surprising arrival of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man along with Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Seeing two previous versions of Spideys joining hands or rather webs with the current Spider-Man Tom Holland was truly a once in a lifetime experience. I remember the audience in my theatre going crazy when Tobey made an appearance in the film and how many people were even choked up by his return. © Twitter The reason for such a massive reaction to the film was not only because it belonged to MCU or that it’s a Spider-Man film, but it’s also majorly because of the brilliant fan service by Marvel Studios. I am not saying it wasn’t a good film, but nostalgia was the major factor that got the film all the moolah and it is already in the top ten biggest grossers of all time in the world. Spider-Man: No Way Home isn’t the only Hollywood film that cashed in on nostalgia, the list is endless. In the last few years, Disney in specific has rebooted a lot of their older films. Most of the time they succeeded be it live-action Aladdin, The Jungle Book, The Lion King, Cruella and the other times the result was unsatisfactory - Dumbo, Lady and the Tramp and Mulan. © Disney While the idea of cashing in on the nostalgia to grab quick cash was always there and we have examples like multiple Terminator reboots, Jurassic World etc, in the last two-three years or so, the number of such films have increased manifolds. Some of the most popular and talked about reboots, remakes, reunions, revivals and sequels of older films released in the last two years include The Matrix Resurrections, Space Jam: A New Legacy, Tom & Jerry, Scoob!, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Coming 2 America, Mortal Kombat, Candyman, Halloween Kills, Home Sweet Home Alone and Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts. © HBO Max TV shows weren’t left behind either, Dexter made a comeback after almost a decade with season 9 titled Dexter: New Blood. Treated as a sequel as well as a reboot of the polarising original series finale, Dexter: New Blood found love once again. Then there was also the Turner and Hooch TV series based on the 1989 film of the same name starring Tom Hanks. However, the show failed to grab eyeballs and got cancelled after one season. © Showtime Other such shows and events include Full House revival Fuller House, The Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark, *** and the City revival And Just Like That… Gossip Girl sequel, Saved by the Bell revival, iCarly revival and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe sequel Masters of the Universe: Revelation. Having said that, the biggest and the most talked about event in TV history in recent times was also all about nostalgia, the Friends: The Reunion. © HBO Max Most of the aforementioned films and shows turned out to be a huge success with the fans irrespective of whether they were actually good or not. And Hollywood is not stopping at that in the near future as well. Some of the popular upcoming movies and shows include Top Gun: Maverick, Scream, Pinocchio, The Little Mermaid, Death on the Nile, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Matilda and Enchanted sequel Disenchanted. The reason behind cashing in nostalgia could be that it assures free publicity and a large set of eyeballs. Irrespective of whether the movie or a show is good or not, fans of the project will definitely check it out at least once. So, that way, half the job is done which also means, the age of nostalgia is here to stay. © Skydance Media As for why nostalgia is often a sure shot bet for the film and TV studios, Michael Sheen’s character Paul Bates sums it up nicely in Woody Allen’s 2011 film Midnight in Paris, “Nostalgia is denial - denial of the painful present... the name for this denial is golden age thinking - the erroneous notion that a different time period is better than the one one's living in - it's a flaw in the romantic imagination of those people who find it difficult to cope with the present.” Personally, I am a sucker for nostalgia and looking forward to almost all the reboots, revivals, sequels and even remakes but at the same time, I am cautious of studios ruining the legacy of the original much-loved masterpiece. © Warner Bros Now, that’s a fine line to tread which Spider-Man: No Way Home aced and Matrix Resurrections failed at. So, here’s looking forward to how other such films and shows fare in the year 2022, 2023 and so on… View the full article
  8. The latest Spidey adventure, starring Tom Holland as the title web-slinger, collected a leading $33 million from 4,108 theatres between Friday and Sunday
  9. Other notable releases in the top 10 include Disney's "West Side Story," which pocketed $2.1 million from 2,690 venues
  10. Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man franchise, has been enjoying a record-breaking run at the box office worldwide. The movie has recently hit the $500 million mark at the US box office becoming the first Sony backed film to do so. In India, it is on course to hit a double century at the box office and will soon be the highest-grossing film of the year beating Sooryavanshi. Going by the massive box office collections of the film, it seems a lot of people have watched it multiple times but there are still a few who are yet to catch and were trying their best to avoid spoilers. © Marvel Studios They even went to great lengths to avoid spoilers by muting Spider-Man and related terms on Twitter, unfollowing MCU and Spider-Man related accounts among other things. Despite all the precautions, their quest to avoid spoilers on social media came to a shocking end, thanks to Kim Kardashian. Kim recently watched Spider-Man: No Way Home and without any prior warning posted a bunch of major spoilers from the film on her Instagram stories. The spoilers include snapshots of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man meeting characters that were supposed to be surprise cameos for fans. © Instagram/Kim Kardashian Reacting to Kim’s unthinkable act, a lot of fans took to Twitter to express their shock and disappointment. One user tweeted, “I thought the SpiderMan ending would get ruined from ALOT of places on social media for me, but never in @KimKardashian‘s insta stories. Nothing says privilege like getting a movie in your own private theatre and spoiling it for those of us who are trying to stay home and safe!” Another user tweeted, “Spent a week avoiding spoilers on tiktok and twitter for spiderman no way home only for @KimKardashian to spoil it on ig”. 12. The third instalment in Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man franchise, Spider-Man: No Way Home is breaking and creating records left, right and centre not just in the US but in the other parts of the world as well. The movie released in India on December 16 and opened to a record-breaking Rs 32.67 crore net collection. The biggest this year when compared to Hindi films even beating Sooryavanshi. On day 2, it collected Rs 20.37 crore, day 3 was Rs 26.10 crore and on day 4 it made Rs 29.23 crore. © Marvel Studios Over its 4-day opening weekend, Spider-Man: No Way Home has grossed a mammoth Rs 138.55 crore. The net collection is Rs 108.37 crore. Sharing the film’s box office collection, trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “‘SPIDERMAN’ SETS NEW BENCHMARKS IN INDIA… #SpiderMan: #NoWayHome emerges #SonyIndia’s HIGHEST GROSSING FILM in #India… ALSO, it surpasses *lifetime biz* of #SpiderMan movies [Gross BOC] in just *4 days*… 4-day *extended* weekend: ₹ 138.55 cr [Gross BOC].” © Marvel Studios He further tweeted, “‘SPIDERMAN’ VERSUS ‘SPIDERMAN’ IN INDIA…[2019] #SpiderMan: #FarFromHome: ₹ 102 cr [2012] #TheAmazingSpiderMan: ₹ 90.07 cr [2014] #TheAmazingSpiderMan2: ₹ 87.50 cr [2017] #SpiderMan: #Homecoming: ₹ 75.24 cr NOTE: Gross BOC. The movie made $253 million in the US and $334.2 million overseas. The total collection of Spider-Man: No Way Home with just its opening weekend now stands at $587.2 million. © Marvel Studios Interestingly, in just three days, it became the top-grossing film of the year in the US and the third-highest grosser globally behind F9 and No Time To Die.
