  1. While it is the general belief that being a celebrity who enjoys considerable fame, means you eat, breathe, roll around and even poop cash, the same might not be true at all times. People's celebrity status often makes them seem almost 'invincible', but what we tend to forget most often is that at the end of the day, even our most favourite and top celebrity is human, and that means they are not above the diktats of fate. The wheels of fortune can turn for anyone, no matter how successful and famous you are at any given time, and these five popular Bollywood celebrities are proof that when it comes to money, you can never be too confident. One wrong investment, one callous move and your entire bank balance can go for a complete toss. These 5 Bollywood actors lived to tell the tales of their bankruptcy and here is everything you should know. 1. Amitabh Bachchan © Instagram One of Bollywood's all-time biggest stars, Amitabh Bachchan had once shared with the media how he went bankrupt in 2000 with Rs 90 crore as debt. Reportedly, 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' became his only saving grace. He had said, “In the year 2000, when the entire world was celebrating the new century, I was celebrating my disastrous fortune. There were no films, no money, no company, a million legal cases against the company and the tax authorities had put notice of recovery on my home.” 2. Preity Zinta © Instagram Preity too didn't seem to have great luck donning the producer's hat. Reportedly, after her production 'Ishkq in Paris' crashed at the box office, the film's writer-director Abbas Tyrewala filed a case against Preity for non-payment of dues. Apparently, Preity had to put her apartment on rent to clear the dues, and along with a little help from good friend Salman Khan she got out of the soup. 3. Govinda © Instagram Govinda's bad luck with finances came into light when he confessed about being broke at his daughter's film premiere. An emotional Govinda shared how he barely managed to get by for days and struggled to even hire a taxi or rickshaw. 4. Abhay Deol © Instagram Reportedly, Abhay Deol too paid a heavy price (literally) for turning producer. His home production 'One By Two' was a major failure at the box office and made the actor suffer a huge financial loss. Things apparently got so bad that he had to sell his homes to repay all the loans. 5. Shah Rukh Khan © Instagram Megastar and Bollywood 'Badshah' Shah Rukh Khan was also on the verge of going completely broke after his home production 'Ra.One' and its disastrous innings at the box office almost sent him packing. King Khan confessed that the production of the film cost him a fortune and the film's crashing almost crushed his bank balance.
  2. If your life revolves around Instagram, you must have already seen the first look of Harper Bazaar's May cover featuring the gorgeous, British actress Jameela Jamil. View this post on Instagram Our May cover âï¸ @jameelajamilofficial walks the talk: An unapologetic advocate for body positivity, with a following of nearly two million, she shoots her first-ever cover in India—and the images are not filtered or digitally altered. This is as authentic as it gets. Just like Jameela. • • All images have been #ShotonOnePlus7Pro #ShotonOnePlus (@oneplus_india, @oneplus) Editor: Nonita Kalra (@nonitakalra) Creative director: Yurreipem Arthur (@yurreipemarthur) Fashion editor: Kristen Ingersoll (@kristeningersoll) Photographer: Jennifer Massaux (@jennifermassaux) Hair: Terrie Valazquez Owen (@hair_terrie) Make up: Simone Siegl (@simonesiegl) using hourglass at Starworks artists Suit: Bibhu Mohapatra (@bibhumohapatra) Watch: Tag Heuer Formula 1 Lady (@tagheuer) Earrings and shoes: Dolce & Gabbana (@dolcegabbana) Ring: Bochic (@bochic) Photographers agency: Estelle Leeds Artists management Production( LA): Johnny Pascucci (@johnny_pascucci) & Jason Agron (@jasonagronphoto) at Photobomb Production (@photobombproduction) Production (India): Parul Menezes(@parulmenezes) at P. What makes this magazine cover different from any other? Well there are two reasons. First, the cover stands for body positivity, and as you all know Jameela has always been an unapologetic advocate for body positivity who insisted her photographs are sans any sort of digital retouching or airbrushing. It has to be as authentic as it gets, just like her. View this post on Instagram “I think women, particularly, have been discouraged from showing self-pride, whereas it is respected in men. We're shamed about feeling anything other than grateful for any opportunity we earn. And it's time to take back the power. One of the reasons I don't smile in my photos is because I feel like I'm told to smile all the time by men. Otherwise I'm not likable. I look at every inch my body grows as I'm getting older and my metabolism is slowing down, and I think here is a little more space I'm taking in the world,” says @jameelajamilofficial, our cover star this month. • • This image has been #ShotonOnePlus7Pro #ShotonOnePlus (@oneplus_india, @oneplus) Editor: Nonita Kalra (@nonitakalra) Creative director: Yurreipem Arthur (@yurreipemarthur) Fashion editor: Kristen Ingersoll (@kristeningersoll) Photographer: Jennifer Massaux (@jennifermassaux) Dress: Barbara Bui (@barbarabuiofficial) Earrings and Ring: Bochic (@bochic) Hair: Terrie Valazquez Owen (@hair_terrie) Make up: Simone Siegl (@simonesiegl) using hourglass at Starworks artists Photographers agency: Estelle Leeds Artists management Production( LA): Johnny Pascucci (@johnny_pascucci) & Jason Agron (@jasonagronphoto) at Photobomb Production (@photobombproduction) Production (India): Parul Menezes(@parulmenezes) at P. Yes, that's true! For the very first time ever, Harper's Bazaar India shot an entire cover on the soon-to-be-released OnePlus 7 Pro, and the results were glamorous, honest, raw, and vibrant. The OnePlus 7 launch will take place in three cities simultaneously i.e New York, London and Bangalore on 14th May at 8:15 PM IST. Going by the photos from the shoot, it is safe to say that OnePlus 7 Pro's camera will be a total gamechanger. In fact, we hear OnePlus 7 Pro is rumoured to include a pop-up camera selfie camera instead and also have QHD+ 90Hz AMOLED display. Honestly? We cannot wait for the launch to happen, and those of who you can't make it to the event, you can live stream it here.
  3. We often don't acknowledge it, but the process of consuming well made food happens to be one of the most sensorially fascinating and fulfilling experiences. Right from the tantalising sights, to evocative aromas and delectable taste, food can sprinkle just the right amount of magic to cast a spell on our senses. Good food can make us savour a great meal by setting us on a culinary journey which puts our taste buds on fire. © Instagram Now, since this is no less than a beautiful form of sorcery, we cannot expect just about anyone to succeed in bringing such culinary marvels to life. But, as luck would have it, not only did we chance upon once such exceptionally talented food-magician, but also managed to pull out some valuable scoop from star-chef Megha Agarwal, who is the Head Chef at Auro Kitchen & Bar. © Megha Agarwal Chef Megha has managed to create her own space and niche in the food industry that is mostly dominated by men, and by her own admission it feels amazing to be where she is right now. Talking about making her own name in the industry, Megha told MensXP that, “It feels empowering to work in the FnB industry and to remove assumptions that it is a male dominated sector, especially when there are so many female chefs around.” But all this success did not come to Megha overnight. Her journey to become a star chef started when she was merely 7-years-old and had made her first toaster pizza. Ever since, she knew that food was her calling. © Instagram So she followed the traditional path and joined a culinary school, and then went on to study with renowned French chef Alain Ducasse for two years, before heading back home and starting her career at ITC Maurya. She went on to work with some of the biggest names in the hospitality industry before joining Auro Kitchen & Bar, and there has been no looking back since. © Megha Agarwal But then we had to ask her about how societal stereotypes expect women to do wonders as cooks, and while most women do manage to pull off a few tricks in the kitchen successfully, the industry itself remains male dominated. Her response to this one came as a welcome sign of positive change. Megha told us that, “The industry is rapidly changing and evolving. More female chefs are being recognised for their work in the kitchen. We are breaking barriers and translating our spaces to fit our narrative and create jobs.” © Instagram Yet there is no denying that nothing in this world comes easy. “From not being taken seriously as a chef, to other chefs assuming that women aren't cut out for the intense physical labour or the erratic work schedule,” the journey has been full of challenges. But Megha adds that, “There is no substitute for hard work. You cannot expect to be treated differently and have to constantly push and prove yourself in the kitchen.” © Megha Agarwal Megha gives aspiring young chefs just one piece of advice, “stay healthy and work hard. There is no substitute for hard work. To anyone thinking of pursuing a career in the kitchen, I'd say - spend a little time in a commercial kitchen (as an intern) because it isn't as glamorous as it seems to be before finally making a decision to pursue this as a full time career option.” © Megha Agarwal Megha has come a long way since the time she has started and become an inspiration to a lot of young and women who wish to don a chef's hat with pride. And like she said, it is her passion, dedication and hard work that has allowed her to live the dream.
  4. For Lotus Fashion Week 2019, Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi, a renowned campaigner against child labour, led a group of designers to pledge a child labour-free production in the Indian fashion industry. © Twitter "There are about 500 million children in the world who are forced into child labour. Through this pledge, we promise to stop hiring children at workplace," Satyarthi announced. © Twitter The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) has collaborated with Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation (KSCF) to launch #Notmadebychildren campaign. The campaign aims to stop child labour in India's fashion and textile industries. This movement, according to Satyarthi, and the initiative is the "start of a new movement in India". © Twitter Designers like Rina Dhaka, Rahul Mishra and Reynu Taandon were a part of the pledge ceremony.
  5. Sports and scandals go together like peanut butter and jam. 2018 has been a year of some of the most excruciating controversies, bold allegations and career-endangering statements. Here's a peek at the topmost fiery quotes that made the biggest headlines in the sports sector this year: 1. Virat Kohli Asks A Cricket Fan To 'Leave India': Nobody knows controversies like Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who found himself in a hot soup this year when he appeared in a video saying, “I don't think you should live in India, go live somewhere else" which obviously went viral. In context, Kohli was responding to a cricket fan's message in which he says that he enjoys watching English and Australian batsmen over “these Indians”. The fan also called Kohli an “overrated batsman.” "Why are you living in our country and loving other countries? I don't mind you not liking me, but I don't think you should live in our country and like other things," said the skipper. Why are you living in our country and loving other countries" pic.twitter.com/YbPG97Auyn — Saj Sadiq (@Saj_PakPassion) November 6, 2018 Not able to control the situation, Kohli uploaded an image captioned “I guess trolling isn't for me guys, I'll stick to getting trolled!” in his defence. 2. Serena Williams' War On Sexism: We saw a budding star all set to take centre stage when 21-year-old Naomi Osaka won the US Open against probably the most dominant force in women's tennis, Serena Williams. But, that wasn't what the evening went on to be about. When Williams shot out saying, “You stole a point from me, you are a thief too!” to the US Open Final's umpire Carlos Ramos, an uproar on social media was spurred, deeming the umpires to be biased and sexist towards female players. Serena's elder sister, Venus Williams has also had her fair share of beef with Ramos back in 2016, when he accused her of receiving coaching during a match in the French Open, to which Venus replied “I'm 36 years old… I play fair.” 3. Martina Navratilova's Transphobic Rant: Former grand-slam champion Martina Navratilova took the world by surprise when she said, “Having a ***** and competing as a woman would not fit that standard.” Branding her comments as 'bullying' and 'discriminatory', Twitter brought her to social justice when she was forced to make a public apology. She went on to say that she would educate herself better on this issue and in the “meantime, will be quiet about it.” I am sorry if I said anything anywhere near transphobic- certainly I meant no harm - I will educate myself better on this issue but meantime I will be quiet about it. Thank you — Martina Navratilova (@Martina) December 21, 2018 4. Lewis Hamilton's 'Poor India' Comment: 2018 belonged to the five-time world champion until the point when he basically called India “a poor place” in an interview with BBC. “I've been to India before to a race which was strange because India was such a poor place yet we had this massive, beautiful Grand Prix track made in the middle of nowhere,” said the legend. “I felt very conflicted when I went to that Grand Prix.” Clearly, Indian fans of the sport didn't take to this very kindly. Twitter erupted as soon as the interview was made public. Mercedes boss Toto Wolff came in his defence stating that Hamilton's earlier words and meaning had been "spun out of context". Please read ð®ð³â¤ï¸ pic.twitter.com/UtXRvcP74A — Lewis Hamilton (@LewisHamilton) November 15, 2018 "He spoke with empathy about India and the painful contrast between wealth and poverty that we face while travelling the globe as sporting ambassadors," the Austrian said in a statement issued by the reigning champions.
  6. 2018 has been an interesting year in terms of performances. Some surprising misses, some obvious duds and some mind-blowing hits have ensured that we had a grand buffet of performances, movies and TV series. However, this list is not to wax eloquence on any generic names but the selected few talented powerhouses, who, with their stellar performances blew our minds, and ensured that no matter what, they can steal the thunder with pure talent! Here's our pick of the top 7 amazing actors who owned 2018: 1. Saif Ali Khan- No, he is not a newcomer, and no, he did not come back after a major hiatus either, but only a diamond merchant can recognise the value of a diamond, right? Well, that's exactly what happened when Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap got him on board for 'Sacred Games' and gave us Sartaj Singh. Our faith in this awesome guy is restored. 2. Vicky Kaushal- He has been here for a while and yes, his performances have always been appreciated, but 2018 made us see him in a new light altogether. From 'Sanju', to 'Lust Stories' and then finally 'Manmarziyan', this handsome dude proved that he can literally take up anything and put his heart into it to deliver it through. 3. Ayushmann Khurrana- Our very own talent pool is an all-rounder. This good-looking lad can write, act, sing and perform, all with sheer perfection. The fact that 'AndhaDhun' and 'Badhai Ho' broke box office records proves that Ayushmann can carry a 100 crore film with ease and immense talent. 4. Taapsee Pannu- This gorgeous woman gave us Rumi, a woman every guy would want to date, a woman every girl can relate with and a character which is so layered, that the simplicity of her character garbed the complex plot with poise. Taapsee is a great performer and 'Manmarziyan' was her movie completely. 5. Radhika Apte- The internet might have trolled this name and Netflix for their constant association but they forgot that her omnipresence is due to the fact that she is brilliant with whatever she does. It has been her year in terms of accolades, performances and the plethora of work that she took on her plate. 'Lust Stories', ' Andhadhun', ' Ghoul', 'Sacred Games', all different genres and all done with pure perfection. 6. Nawazuddin Siddiqui- What is 'Sacred Games' without the brilliance of this man? Gaitonde gave us the chills and made sure that we were hooked to the series, courtesy his narration and his flawless acting. 7. Kubbra Sait- Also, when we talk of 'Sacred Games', we cannot miss the spell that was cast thanks to 'Kukkoo ka jadoo'. This beautiful actress proved that any role can be marvelled with the right amount of dedication and sheer talent. Kudos to her for performing Kukkoo so effortlessly. These 7 performers which changed the way we perceive 'entertainment' in 2018.
  7. If anyone asks me to list out the top three things a fitness influencer does these days, I would say: 1. Fake natty claims 2. Sells stupid supplements 3. Makes you believe in unicorns Point number one, I believe, is the most disastrous of the three. That is because these influencers, who have massive followings and impact on the behaviour of teenagers, need to tell them the truth. © Instagram These influencers portray impressive physiques and strength standards on their social media channels. When their young and gullible audience, who follow them, ask how can they attain the same, they get the same old repetitive overused shit in response: 1. Consistency 2. Hard work 3. These magic supplements And no, it is none of the three in 99 per cent of the cases. In that 99 per cent of the cases, it is anabolic steroids or performance-enhancing drugs. When the smarter audiences call these so-called idols out for it, they outright ignore the voices and keep selling their stuff to their followers. The Case Of Ryan Casey Very recently, a similar thing happened with a young 18-year-old fitness influencer called Ryan Casey. View this post on Instagram Right now my diet consists of like 2 chocolate muffins a day lmao. Not super concerned about my diet right now but when I get back into training I'll start eating more. I want to get shredded again. - - - - - #instafit #motivation #zyzz #aesthetics #fitness #shredded #calvinklein #fit #muscle #gym #GymShark #bodybuilding #jeffseid #flex #ripped #teenbodybuilding #bodybuilder #jenselterchallenge #Alphalete #lifestyle #mensphysique #physique #instafit #gainz #gains #fitfam #cardio #lifting #workout A post shared by Ryan Casey (@rc_aesthetics) on Dec 10, 2018 at 12:35pm PST If you do not know Ryan Casey, he was one of the youngest guys to have been sponsored by Gym Shark. He is just 18-years-old and runs a popular YouTube Channel and has a massive Instagram following. He also runs a digital media agency and has been very successful in doing so. In recent times, Ryan had been accused of using anabolic drugs, as people saw his social media posts where he has shown massive improvement in his physique and strength. Instead of flatly ignoring it, as most of these social media stars do, he actually came out and did a video on his YouTube channel where he admitted to the usage of SARMs. You can watch the video here SARMs are not anabolic steroids but they are PEDs aka performance-enhancing drugs and are banned substances under the laws of the anti-doping agencies and sports. By speaking out, I believe Ryan has done a massive service to the fitness industry. I think other fitness influencers should also come out and say the untold truth. Most importantly because young impressionable minds are getting into body image and strength issues due to the constant comparison and fake benchmarks being set out. The other side of the story, though, is that there is a strong reason for these influencers to lie to you. Because speaking the truth will cost them dearly! How So? The companies that sponsor these athletes know that they are on the gear and they know that they are enhanced. The sponsors are okay with this fact till the time it helps them push more sales. But... When the athletes speak out the truth, they cannot have that, as it damages the reputation of the company and can impact the sales. A pretty solid double standard there! 8. For all the kings and queens, dragons and whores, witches and dead men in the show 'Game of Thrones', there is one character who charms merely by virtue of his wit and his indifference towards a world he understands a little too well. He is Tyrion Lannister – sly, bold, and irreverent. In him, fans see a man ill-favoured by luck, a man who's been given a raw deal in a world where physical bravado determines your lifespan and the respect you earn. And yet he manages to outsmart them all, with his refusal to get bogged down by their broad-chested armour plates, using the one thing he has best – a quick-witted mind and a confidence that stems from realizing that. © Instagram_Peter Dinklage Peter Dinklage's struggle is not vastly different from the character he has immortalized, but unlike reel life, the struggle and success story is more layered. Born in New Jersey to an insurance salesman and a music teacher, Dinklage was born with achondroplasia, a genetic disorder that causes dwarfism. Acting began at an early age as Dinklage explored theatre at school and college level, but commercial success was to arrive much later. © Instagram_Peter Dinklage Dinklage struggled to make ends meet when he moved to New York to further his acting career. Staying in a run-down apartment that had no heating and hardly any comfort, he strived hard to get good work, something that was hard to come by given his physical stature. Despite the scarce means, he stood his ground and refused roles that were typically written for dwarves, to either bring comic relief or to heighten the supernatural element using the 'elf' as a trope. © Reuters It was difficult. To say no when you are a struggling actor with no money. But Dinklage was ambitious enough. His story was that of any struggling actor trying to break into the glamorous world of showbiz, only in his case, there was an additional clause. His looks challenged the general perception of what a mainstream hero looked like, but Dinklage refused to be sidelined into the role society would have him set in. © Instagram_Peter Dinklage And it did pay off. Success came in spurts but it was enough to keep him going. His first breakthrough came in the form of the 2003-movie 'The Station Agent' in which he played Finbar McBride, a character with normal human emotions, minus the caricatures. The movie got him critical acclaim and a visibility in the circles. © Miramax Films What followed were noticeable roles in movies and theatre productions. The highlight of his career was, of course, his role as Tyrion Lannister in 'Game of Thrones' created by David Benioff and DB Weiss. The portrayal of the cynical but sharp Lannister brought him rave reviews and a fandom long due. Dinklage added an edge to the character, bringing personality to an already well-written part. © HBO Dinklage was the first actor to be cast in the show and according to the creators, he was the first choice for the role. But Dinklage himself was wary when he was approached for the role. Years of being offered caricatural dwarf roles made him get his guard up. In an interview with the New York Times, he confesses he put one condition before the creators Benioff and Weiss: that there would be no flowy beard and no pointy shoes – a typical ensemble for dwarf characters in movies. © Reuters The role was anything but typical, and Dinklage did it full justice. He went on to earn a Golden Globe award and two Emmy awards for Outstanding actor in a drama series for his role as Tyrion Lannister in the series. © Reuters Dinklage confessed to having been bitter and angry about his condition, especially in his younger years. He has often spoken in support of normalizing the condition and against the culture of bullying and mocking dwarves. During his Golden Globe acceptance speech, he urged people to google Martin Henderson, a dwarf who was picked up and hurled by a rowdy rugby fan in London. In the interview with the New York Times, he says though, “Everyone's different. Every person my size has a different life, a different history. Different ways of dealing with it. Just because I'm seemingly okay with it, I can't preach how to be okay with it. I don't think I still am okay with it. There's days when I'm not.” © Reuters Today, he has come far from the struggling actor living in a cold apartment. With prestigious awards, critical acclaim and fandom tucked by his side, he is a name to reckon with now. He married theatre director Erica Schmidt and has a daughter; of course, he lives in luxury today. But the journey wasn't easy and Dinklage stood his ground. © Instagram_Peter Dinklage He delivered a moving speech at Bennington College, where he studied acting before moving to New York to try his luck in movies and theatre. Standing at 4 feet 5 inches, Peter Dinklage has managed to reach the most coveted heights of success in showbiz. It didn't come because of luck; it didn't happen by chance. It came because he was persistent enough, because he believed in himself enough to say no to the world when it tried to push him into a definition it was comfortable with. If you have to take anything from this story, it is this. This speech, where he urges you to not wait. To not wait for the right moment, to not wait for the world to give you an opportunity. Don't wait for the world's approval or permission. Do it anyway. Quoting Becket he says, “Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.” For more of this author's work, click here; to follow them on Twitter, click here.
