  1. Aqib Javed says it could be due to workload that Shaheen Shah Afridi was injured as he has been playing cricket continuously
  2. Due to knee injury, Shaheen Afridi will miss second Test, which will be played in Galle from July 24
  3. Becky Lynch tweeted a heartfelt message for Big E, sending him well wishes after his neck injury
  4. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction is done and dusted and players shifted their focus back to international cricket on Wednesday. Indian stars who earned big bucks in the auction, put in a fine show in Kolkata as India defeated the West Indies in the T20I series opener at the Eden Gardens. Meanwhile, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has criticised the players for not committing as much as they should when the IPL is around the corner to avoid any injuries just before the lucrative league that fetches them big money. "That can also lead to some to not try as hard for their country, especially when the IPL is round the corner." What do you make of Gavaskar's comments? pic.twitter.com/v9uzc6dZqR — Wisden (@WisdenCricket) February 16, 2022 "The auction is a life-changing one for all the players as it opens doors to a secure future for them and their families. That can also lead to some to not try as hard when playing for their country, especially when the IPL is around the corner, so to speak," Gavaskar wrote in his column for Times of India. "This is to ensure that there is no injury that will prevent them from being fit for the IPL and missing out on the security that an IPL contract guarantees. So the diving and sliding, or the hard throws from the deep, are not attempted for fear of doing some damage that will mean withdrawal from the IPL," the batting great added. ROHIT SHARMA KA CATCH#indvsWi pic.twitter.com/NFcmxCf519 — Aman shrivastava (@im___Aman) February 16, 2022 However, Gavaskar's views were proved wrong immediately after the auction as Indian players put their bodies on the line to save runs and dived around to take difficult chances with captain Rohit Sharma leading from the front with a fine diving catch to finish off the West Indies innings. Fans too were disappointed to hear such views from a cricketing legend who has played the game at the highest level and is a renowned voice in the commentary box. Maybe he is little jealous that he can't play the IPL — Gladiator (@johnsmithMA) February 16, 2022Gavaskar has lost his mind — Cricket with saga (@serotonin345) February 16, 2022You can speculate anything. Its garbage unless there is any evidence — SV (@swamiji75) February 16, 2022Don’t remember Sunny doing a lot of diving and sliding tbh. — Ginger Magician (@MagicianGinger) February 16, 2022This great man once said jo maza ipl ma ha world cup ma kahan ha — hassan (@Babar50065128) February 16, 2022Such comments on IPL coming from a player with the stature of Gavaskar seems weird as he was the one who said IPL is even bigger than the T20 World Cup last year. “Our IPL is the best domestic tournament in the world. There's nothing bigger than the IPL. Even the World Cups look insipid in front of it. A lot of people would say they are not enjoying the World Cup much. People have been saying since the beginning that the charisma of IPL or such local T20 leagues has been missing from the T20 World Cup,” Gavaskar had said. View the full article

  6. Ahead of Day 1 of the second Test between India and South Africa on Tuesday, the fans of the Men in Blue were rather surprised to see KL Rahul walk to the middle of the Wanderers cricket ground for the toss alongside the Protea captain Dean Elgar instead of Virat Kohli. It was going to be his 99th Test match, and after being relieved of all his white-ball responsibilities as captain ahead of the tournament, the Indian cricket fraternity is expecting him to get back in his top form as a batter any day now. Surprising news for the Cricket Team fans as the captain Kohli has an upper back spam and will not take part in this second Test against South Africa! - KL will be handling the responsibilities! #Crickslab #SAvIND #india #southafrica #ViratKohli pic.twitter.com/WHQ3URwXmY — CricksLab (@CricksLab) January 3, 2022 However, the confusion about Kohli’s absence from the field was quickly cleared out by Rahul, who confirmed that he was going to be leading the touring squad in the penultimate Test of the series after Kohli picked up a severe upper back spasm ahead of the game and was going to be ruled out for the entirety of Test 2. Rahul did clarify that the ace batter should be able to recover in time to play the final Test of the series in Cape Town and based on the way things are looking for the Men in Blue ahead of the second Day of the second Test, it is a safe bet to say that the team would need their original skipper’s support to be able to take this series home. View this post on Instagram Nonetheless, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, Sunil Gavaskar has found a silver lining regarding Kohli missing out on the second Test with the injury. While being on commentary duty on Day 1 of the second Test, Gavaskar talked about how missing out on this Test would make the Cape Town match his 99th in the longest format of the game, which further meant that Kohli would be playing his 100th game in India, among his most energetic fans. View this post on Instagram What’s even better is the fact that the first Test match at home will be played on 25th February at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium, the home to the Royal Challengers Bangalore, which Kohli captained for over nine years before giving it up at the end of the 2021 season. "The next one is in Cape Town. The 100th Test match will be in Bangalore. And of course, him being the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore for such a long time it will be a fantastic experience. We have to see if the crowd is allowed there, that is also important. I hope it is allowed because he deserves a huge ovation from the crowd for his 100th Test," the Little Master said on air. View this post on Instagram At the moment though, Team India and Kohli himself will be thinking about the best way to make the most of the 1-0 lead they gained after winning the Centurion match magnificently and keep the hopes of winning their first Test series on South African soil alive. 7. Virat Kohli doesn’t command the same respect in the Indian dressing room anymore. Senior players in the side were not happy with his attitude and they even complained about it to the BCCI secretary Jay Shah. Kohli is rude. He is arrogant. He doesn’t deserve to be the captain of the side as he is always looking for a fight. © Reuters These were some of the major controversies that rocked Indian cricket and made headlines throughout this year and tried to portray Kohli as the root cause for everything that went wrong inside the Indian dressing team. The 33-year-old talisman has often been blamed for not caring enough about his players and treating them with respect. © Reuters If you were also among those who believed such ‘cooked-up’ stories, you couldn’t have been more wrong. Perhaps you overlooked his reaction when fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah came on the field after recovering from his ankle injury. Bumrah looks in pain. pic.twitter.com/06bYUpNSf6 — Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) December 28, 2021 Bumrah twisted his ankle in his follow-through in the 11th over of the South Africa’s first innings and was seen wincing in pain and had to leave the field after being attended to by the team physio. View this post on Instagram With Bumrah being their leader of the fast bowling attack, at the time it seemed a major blow to the touring party. However, other Indian pacers, especially Mohammed Shami, stepped up and made sure that the team didn’t miss Bumrah’s services. While Indian pacers did a fantastic job in Bumrah’s absence, everybody knew how important of a player he was, that’s why when he returned to the field and resumed bowling, everybody took a huge sigh of relief, none more than the Indian captain. Bumrah comes back to bowl after a lengthy break. Kohli: FINALLY, THE ROCK HAS COME BACK!! Referring to this epic comeback line by Rock, who came back to WWE in 2011 after a 8-year hiatus. Absolute goosebumps to hear Kohli say that! What a reference! Virat um WWE fan polarku! pic.twitter.com/EHe9waR4Qa — Srini Mama (@SriniMaama16) December 28, 2021 Kohli was seen sporting a huge smile and clapping for his star bowler as he entered the field post his injury. Not just that, he was even caught on stump mic saying “Finally, the Rock has come back”. Sharing the video of the Indian captain cheering on his front-line pacer, a Twitter user posted a sarcastic tweet and took a dig at haters who try to pull the modern-day great down by finding fault in his behaviour. What is this behavior @imVkohli You have to be rude to your players and not cheer for them, because you aren't good with your team mates.! pic.twitter.com/vJB8mnqNXq — Gudiya! (@kohlixcutiee) December 28, 2021 “What is this behavior @imVkohli You have to be rude to your players and not cheer for them, because you aren't good with your team mates,” wrote a Twitter user. Oh, but how could he do that?! How could he say, our rock has finally come back to jasprit bumrah. Isn't he rude to every player in the team?! — Boxing day test (@Sectumsempra187) December 28, 2021I need a Virat Kohli in my life — ऋतिका (@Vritika385) December 28, 2021Virat respects his every bowler and make them feel motivated throughout the test match. My captain — vk18king (@Viratiansworld1) December 28, 2021Acc to sources, he is rude, doesn't back players — Loki (@Loki71417392) December 29, 2021 Under Kohli’s leadership, Team India has become a major force to reckon with, especially in Test cricket – the game’s toughest format. They are arguably the best visiting side in the world at the moment, winning multiple series playing in tough alien conditions. They have won all but one away Test series in the last two years. © Reuters And all this wouldn’t have been possible had the right-handed batter not treated his player with utmost respect and valued their support. So, from now on if anyone comes up to you and says that Kohli is not a team man, just show them this video. View the full article
  8. On the third day of the first Test in Centurion, India's bowlers got off to a flying start against South Africa, with Jasprit Bumrah attacking early to dismiss Proteas skipper Dean Elgar. After the lunch break, Mohammed Shami stepped in to get Keegan Peterson's wicket. However, the visitors were concerned when Bumrah suffered an injury to his right ankle in a rare accident. After bowling the fifth ball of the 11th over of the South African first innings, Bumrah sprained his ankle badly in his follow-through. The pace bowler was spotted groaning in agony shortly after the accident and, in what appeared to be a precautionary move, had to leave the field with the physiotherapists. Bumrah pic.twitter.com/rX2MaHUdzO — N (@Nitinx18) December 28, 2021 Replays revealed how bizarre the mishap was, as well as how badly Bumrah's right ankle was twisted. While the Men in Blue boast a formidable pace attack, Bumrah is the best among the lot, and any severe injuries to him this early in the serirs could be be a massive setback for Virat Kohli and his squad. Here’s how a lot of fans reacted to the disturbing sight of Bumrah’s ankle rolling completely like a lego leg followed by the cricketer crashing instantly to the ground screaming in agony. No update was made about the severity of the injury or whether or not will he be able to continie during the rest of the match and the series. Nevertheless, the Indian pacers proceeded to worry the South Africans, with Mohammed Siraj dismissing Rassie Van van Dussen and Shami removing Aiden Markram from the pitch while reducing the hosts to 32/4. View this post on Instagram After the middle order batters Temba Bavuma’s 52 and Quinton de Kock’s 34-run stint, that managed to bring the team total beyond the 100-run mark, it didn’t take long for the rest of the squad to get wrapped up for no more than 197 runs in the first innings of the match. As the second innings also began on Day 3, Kohli’s side lost an early wicket this time around as Manank Agarwal had to return to the dressing room after the Protea wicketkeeper dismissed him with a caught-behind. Ahead of Day 4, KL Rahul and Shardul Thakur will be returning to the pitch as the Indian hitters with a 146-run lead already in the bag. View the full article
  9. The Shahid Kapoor we are seeing on the screens today has reinvented himself drastically over the years. He made his Bollywood debut with the hit film Ishq Vishk in 2003. View this post on Instagram He was seen as a chocolate boy of the industry but today, we see a very different avatar of Shahid as he is no more restricted because of a conventional hero image. He is experimenting with his characters and picking up roles that challenge him as an actor. And now, Shahid is making a comeback as he has stepped into the shoes of a cricketer in the Hindi remake of the hit Telugu film Jersey. The film is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who was also the director of the Telugu version of the film. It is a story of a former cricket player who tries to revive his career but fails miserably. It is about a man who wants to aspire to do sports in his mid-40s but faces several complications. The trailer has been received really well by the audience and people can see the extra mile Shahid went for the film. View this post on Instagram In a recent live interaction on Instagram, a fan asked Shahid about his experience of training with a seasoned ball during the Jersey shoot. To this, the actor revealed that he was badly injured and revealed shocking details about the incident. “I busted my lip on this film. My strongest memory of Jersey will be that I felt that I will never look the same again,” he said. Shahid then went on to reveal that the incident occurred when he was practising with a seasoned ball off-camera and it was the day when he chose to not wear his helmet. “(The ball) busted my lower lip and we actually had to stop shooting for two months because of that. I had to get some 25 stitches. It actually took three months for my lip to feel normal -- it still doesn't feel normal. There's a part on my lip (giving fans a close look at it) which I feel it's dead. I can't move it. So I've given my blood to this film,” added the Haider actor. Here’s the video: View this post on Instagram Shahid always believes in putting extra effort into his characters, and the result is visible on the screen.
