  1. Say what you will, but Chris Hemsworthâs Extraction is one cracker of a film. The internet is genuinely unable to stop talking about the film. The reason why we all love the film and cannot seem to get enough of it, is the sheer manner in which films based on rescue operations make us cling to the edge of our seats - the genre itself is anxiety-inducing. © Netflix That got us thinking, what are some other rescue op films that were as good as Extraction. Well, it turns out there are tons actually. However, we pick our favourite 5. Saving Private Ryan, 1998 You had to see this coming. Saving Private Ryan was not just a cult classic, it was a masterpiece. It had some stellar performances by Edward Burns and Matt Damon, but the highlight of the film, Tom Hanks, just stole the show. And can you really forget that monologue that Damon delivered, once he was rescued? © Smithsonian Although the manner in which Hollywood does World War II films is problematic, in the sense they take a lot of artistic liberties, and often twist the real incident beyond recognition, the cinematography in Saving Private Ryan and direction was powerful and poignant. What else can you expect from someone like Steven Spielberg? Is it any wonder that it is a part of the curriculum in a number of film making institutes all over the world. And do we need to remind you of the furore when it lost out on an Oscar for best film? Dunkirk, 2017 I will be the first one to say that Dunkirk certainly does not represent the abilities that Christopher Nolan has, and what his fans have come to expect of him. However, as a rescue op, and as a war film, it certainly is one of the best. As audiences, you genuinely feel the uncertainty that comes to mind when your survival is at risk, and a gruesome and brutal death is all but certain. © Smithsonian The beauty of the film lies in the performances that Nolan has extracted out of actors like Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Barry Keoghan and of all people, Harry Styles. And of course, there is Nolanâs technical skills, which makes the cinematic experience a joy to behold, no matter how gruesome the scene is. Captain Phillips, 2013 Yet another film that captures the paralysing anxiety of rescue operation that can go horribly wrong. Tom Hanks, very effortlessly, conveyed what the real Richard Phillips must have had to go through for those 5-7 days when he was held captive by Somali Pirates. © Reuters Even though pretty much the entire world knew what had actually happened on the Maersk Alabama, the ship that Captain Richard Phillips was commanding, the filmmakers and the actors were able to tie them up in suspense. Truly, the hallmark of a great film. Argo, 12 Now, there were a lot things wrong with the film, especially some of the dialogues that we heard Ben Affleck speak, and again, the misrepresentation of certain key facts that the film was accused of. However, the real-life incident, as well as the film were so fantastically bonkers that we had to include it in the list. © AFP Imagine you are stuck in a hostile country, that wants to kill you, and your government sends in your rescuer who pretends to be film executive from some other country who wants to make a film on a fictional character in the hostile land. Sounds unbelievable, right? Well, watch the film and see how they actually made it quite believable. 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, 2016 And finally, we have 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi or simply 13 Hours. John Krasinski is surely shaping up to be one of the best action stars that we get to see in Hollywood and in 13 Hours you get to see where exactly things started turning for The Office star. © AFP Yes, the film is a little cliched and formulaic when it comes to your rescue/survival op films, but whatever it does within the box, it does it right. There filming and the storytelling is fast-paced and you actually donât get a single slow moment. A definite must-watch, if you ask us. View the full article
  2. Have you ever been to a shop where you saw the sign âIf Broken, Considered Sold?â Well, it seems the Chinese government just got a taste of that very medicine. © Twitter/memelord As per an article by the English daily newspaper, The Daily Express, Germany has sent a bill to the Chinese Government for all the loses that the European country had to put up with because of the novel Coronavirus. © Reuters No matter where one stands on the virusâ origin, whether it was manmade or it originated in the wet markets of Wuhan, one cannot deny the haphazard manner in which the Chinese state authorities have handled the outbreak and the manner in which it tried to cover up certain facts, and at times straight-up lied, both to its citizens and international regulatory bodies. © Reuters Naturally, the world right now is not looking at China with a favourable lens. Nevertheless, that anger and frustration could not be taken as the excuse of the racial bigotry and xenophobia that has been observed to becomes the norm. People with mongoloid facial features all over the world have been targeted, abused and attacked. Delhi man spat at Manipur girl shouting Corona. If you think that this is unacceptable, can you stop addressing North Easterners as Chinki, Momo etc and stop your friends from doing same, if applicable?#NoToRacism #Respect #NorthEast #NoChinki #India pic.twitter.com/obj0uXcfem â Raaj Biswas (@xploreraj) March 23, 2020 The Germans, though, have a different way of doing things. Instead of indulging in idiotic and xenophobic rhetorics, a German national daily, which goes by the name Bild has come up with an itemised bill or invoice as to what the Republic of China owes to Germany. © Twitter/Disclose.tv The bill has broken pretty much everything down - losses from tourism, losses from the film industry, losses from small business, and losses from airlines, among other things. The bill comes up to be 149 Billion Euros, which we converted into Indian Rupees, just for fun. In Indian Rupees, the figure stands at Rs 1,24,15,00,00,00,000. For those of us who had to pay a little extra attention at school during maths classes, Thatâs Rs1.24 Lakh-Crore. © Reuters As big and as hefty as these figures are, they represent something significant. According to the article, Germany is the fourth country after the UK, France, and the USA in calling out the actions of the Chinese state authorities. © Reuters The invoice, which wasnât a government document, but what a newspaper has put together, actually, has Beijing riled up, and furious, with Chinese state authorities calling the move to be xenophobic, and an action that instils nationalistic pride in the wrong way. © Reuters However, given how the Asian community has been attacked in North America and Europe, and how people with mongoloid facial features are being targeted, we think the Chinese state authorities might want to look up the word 'xenophobia' in a dictionary. If only there was a way to communicate with them. Perhaps over Twitter? Oh right, sorry, they donât have Twitter in China... View the full article
  3. Microsoft decided to take the wraps off its upcoming gaming console, the Xbox Series X, and detailed everything that we needed to know about it. It looks like Sony had a FOMO after Microsoft's reveal, and it decided to give out some of the details of its upcoming console too. Yes, we finally know exactly how powerful the PlayStation 5 is going to be. I sat through the entire keynote last night to filter out all the unwanted (read mostly boring) details and give you just the exciting things that you need to know about the PS5. So, let's dive into it - PS5 Is Incredibly PowerfulFirst of all, I'd like to point out that Sony didn't really reveal the console itself. They just wanted to talk about the architecture and give a glimpse as to what they've been cooking behind the scenes. So, the PlayStation 5 will be using AMD's Ryzen, featuring 8x cores at 3.5GHz. The GPU will also be provided by AMD and it'll be a customized version of the AMD RDNA 2 featuring 36 CUs capped at 2.23GHz. It'll also support ray-tracing on the hardware level, which is fantastic. © Sony The PlayStation 5 will be able to deliver 10.28 teraflops at its peak performance, which is a significant step up over the current-gen console. Sony said the console will also be able to support 8K, although they didn't go into specifics as to what we should expect. The PS5 will have 16GB GDDR6/256-bit RAM and we're looking at a memory bandwidth of 448GB/s. Sony is also using a custom SSD for its console. The company is claiming lightning-fast speeds, thanks to the PCIe 4.0 connection. Apparently, the console will be able to transfer a 2GB file in just 0.27 seconds. That's an insane number and it means we literally won't have to worry about loading times at all. The PS5 will also feature an NVMe SSD slot for expandable storage, in case you're wondering. Next-Gen Experience © Sony Sony says the console will also feature Tempest 3D audio. A huge part of the keynote was spent talking about the audio experience. In simple terms, it looks like PS5 will offer an immersive audio experience, unlike anything we've experienced so far. Lastly, we'd like to point out that the PS5 will be backward compatible which means you'll still be able to play PS4 games on it. Also, the PS5 won't be digital-only, meaning you'll still be able to purchase digital copies of the game if you want. Well, that's all we got for now. We thought Sony would give us a glimpse of the console, but it looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer to see what they have in store for us. Note: The thumbnail images of the console are for representation only. That's not the final design of the console. View the full article
  4. 2020 is off to a great start when it comes to smartphone launches. There's a healthy competition going on among the brands to put their best step forward and decimate the competition. Besides some of the familiar names like Realme, Xiaomi, and Samsung, there's a new brand in town called iQOO. iQOO, for those of you who don't know, is a Vivo's sub-brand that's looking to step into the battle with the idea of offering an affordable flagship phone. The iQOO 3 5G is the first phone to come out of iQOO's doors, which I've been using as my primary phone for quite some time now. There's a lot to discuss about the phone, so let's not waste any more time and jump right into the review where I tell you if this phone is worth dropping your money on. Design & Build Quality © Karthik Iyer/ MensXP When it comes to the design, I'd say the iQOO 3 doesn't bring anything new to the table. But that's not saying that it looks bad. It has an all-glass construction that comes in three color variants, all of which look equally good and premium. I, personally, have a leaning towards the Orange variant of the phone, but that's sadly not what we have here for review. Despite being a gaming-centric phone, I like the fact that iQOO doesn't have a flashy and jarring look for most gaming devices. It's a simple design that screams "Vivo" from any angle you look at it. Yes, iQOO has definitely taken some cues from Vivo when it comes to the design. The colored power button on the left and the "Monster Touch Button" are the highlights for me here. The air trigger buttons combined with the phone's great haptics, you're in for a solid gaming experience. It is, however, worth pointing out that iQOO 3 is one heavy phone. It's probably not that bad, but I thought it's worth mentioning because it's been a while since I've such a heavy device. © Karthik Iyer/ MensXP The rest of the stuff about the phone is pretty standard. You get a USB Type C port at the bottom along with the speaker grille, a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top and a dedicated AI button on the right side. There's a punch-hole cutout on the display for the selfie camera as well. Overall, I'd say the iQOO 3 is a decent looking phone. On one hand, I am glad that iQOO decided to stay away from an obnoxious "gaming" design, but on the other hand, I think the phone leaves you craving for more when it comes to the design. Don't get me wrong, the fit and finish of the phone is pretty solid. It's just that the design is probably not what I'll talk about if I am asked about iQOO 3. Display © Karthik Iyer/ MensXP It's 2020 and most smartphone makers are hellbent at throwing in a high-refresh-rate panel on their phones. But it's interesting and rather disappointing to see just a 60Hz panel here on the iQOO 3. I mean, a 60Hz panel is absolutely usable and this one also has a 180Hz touch response rate. But it's definitely something to consider when you have other phones on the market with high-refresh-rate panels. That being said, the 6.44-inch Super AMOLED display on the iQOO 3 is really good. It's a high-resolution display with punchy colors and deep blacks. It also gets bright enough to be used outdoors. It has a punch-hole cutout for the camera as mentioned earlier, but it's nothing to complain about. It's on the top-right side of the phone and it's not really going to bother you all that much. Performance iQOO is one of the first brands to bring a phone that's powered by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 865 SoC to India. And let me tell you that this chipset is a beast. Also, it's paired with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. To top it all off, the Snapdragon X55 modem makes it a 5G capable phone too. © Karthik Iyer/ MensXP With all that hardware in toe, the iQOO 3 performs exceptionally well. The performance is top-notch and I encountered no stutters or hiccups either while simply using the phone for my day-to-day activities or while gaming. It won't give up even when you're using the phone to do some resource-intensive stuff. As for the gaming performance, I did a separate story on that in which I explain everything about the phone's gaming experience and why I think it's one of the best gaming phones. You can read that story right here if you want a deep dive into the phone's gaming performance. You'll also be able to check out all the benchmark performance of the phone in there. © Karthik Iyer/ MensXP As for the software, the iQOO 3 runs no its own iQOO UI. I'd say it's a little bit cleaner than what you get to see on Vivo's phones, but it's still far from something that I'd use on a day-to-day basis. The reason why most manufacturers have all those features and in-built apps in their phones is because they say most people like it that way for convenience. It apparently makes it easier for an average user to open the box, boot the phone and start using it with everything that's already there. I personally don't like having a ton of bloat on my phone, so it's a big no for me. But I'll say this that there are some really useful features in there to boost your phone's performance as well. I definitely see a lot of people use those features. That being said, I really think the software needs to be more optimized because there are times when you just feel like even Snapdragon 865 isn't enough to keep it going. Camera © Karthik Iyer/ MensXP As is the case with most phones these days, the iQOO 3 also comes with a quad-camera setup on the rear. It includes a 48MP primary shooter, two 13MP sensors and a depth sensor for portraits. The images taken from the iQOO 3 turned out very good. The images taken on the daylight turned out pretty good with a good dynamic range and a ton of detail. I'd say they were also pretty color accurate from what I was seeing with my naked eyes. The ultra-wide images were also pretty good. As for the images taken during the night, well, that's where this camera felt a little lacking. Here, take a look at the images to see what I am talking about. To sum up the camera experience, I'd say the iQOO 3 has a versatile and a reliable set of cameras. If you're not someone who's going to take a ton of pictures at night, then I doubt you'll have any issues using this phone for photography. Battery Life One of the marquee features of the iQOO 3 is its battery and charging tech. The phone packs a 4,440 mAh battery is which just about what we've come to expect from any other phone these days. As per my usage, although I thought I won't be able to kill it within a day, I actually managed to do it very easily. © Karthik Iyer/ MensXP So, at best, I'd say this is a phone which you'll be charging every night to make sure you have enough juice for the next day. Honestly, that's not really a surprise because this is a gaming phone, after all, so you will probably find yourself playing a lot of games on it as I did. But don't worry, because the 55W charger that's included in the box will charge it up pretty quickly. The charging is so fast that it'll hardly take more than 45 minutes to charge it from a dead state to a full charge. And on top of that, the phone also comes with a capsule-shaped connector which will let you play games even while charging and not come in your way. That's pretty cool. The Final Say So is the iQOO 3 worth buying? Well, the phone starts at Rs 36,990 for the base variant which comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. If you want to the top-of-the-line variant with 12GB RAM and 5G support, then you're looking at a price tag of Rs 44,990. Honestly, even at price, the iQOO 3, in my opinion, brings a lot to the table. Yes, the phone's design is not going to turn any heads or you're not getting any exceptional features that make people go bonkers over it. However, I think the phone is definitely worth the asking price. © Karthik Iyer/ MensXP You're essentially looking at one of the best performing phones on the market right, both on paper and otherwise, and a very reliable set of cameras. The battery life isn't something to complain about either, so I don't see a reason not to recommend this to anyone who's looking to buy a powerful phone. Yes, there's no 5G network here in India yet, but I don't think this phone will die on you by the time 5G finds its way here. Unless you're hellbent about having a high refresh rate panel on your phone, then I think the iQOO 3 would be a solid pickup. View the full article
  5. Pioneering off-road setups, absolute indestructibility and the ability to never stall, ever - thereâs a lot of reasons to pick a Land Rover - especially if you happen to be a movie chase-scene villain. This year marks the release of No Time To Die in April - Daniel Craigâs last romp as the besuited, suave and very, very secret⦠agent, James Bond. The filmâs trailer puts a firm emphasis on high-stakes chase scenes - opening up with some sick shots of Bond behind the wheel of the classic Aston Martin DB5. Neat, huh? Things were taken up a notch when we got a peek at this incredible stunt showcase from Land Rover - highlighting the best of the new Defender 110 X platformâs ruggedness, stability and performance. They really should start testing vehicles on action film sets. The Defender 110 is a mid-wheelbase sized model that clearly seems capable of going through anything thrown at it - from swampland to rivers, hill climbs and pretty insane jumps - weâre seriously left wondering what wonder-stuff the suspension is made of. The chase sequence, which should be one of the highlights in the movie was led by stunt coordinator, Lee Morrison working alongside Oscar winner and special effects, action vehicles supervisor Chris Corbould. A total of 10 Defenders were used in the making of the movie, including the seventh Defender built carrying the '007' VIN number. Also featured in the video are some Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC motorcycles - another british motoring icon thatâs been ripping up off-road tracks the world over. © Triumph/Land Rover The Defender 110 was spotted in India as well, early this January, in the form of a camouflaged test mule. © Motorbeam Under the hood, Land Rover will be offering the car with a variety of engines with two power ranges; a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 300PS of power and a 3.0-litre in-line six with a supercharger and 48V mild-hybrid tech that puts out 404PS of max power - nothing to laugh at. Meanwhile, the diesel variant Ingenium D200 2.0-litre diesel engine makes 200PS, while the D240 is tuned to produce 240 PS of peak power. All of this comes mated to LRâs timeless 4x4 system, complete with one of the most sophisticated off road terrain-management systems you can buy. Speaking of buying, the Defender 110 is expected to cost somewhere between 80-95 lakh (ex-showroom). View the full article
  6. "How much RAM is too much RAM?" Okay, that's probably not something everybody would search on Google, but PC and specs nerds like me have done it at least once. I mean, that's really a crucial question, especially in a world where even smartphones have up to 16GB RAM. Anyway, did you know that you can buy Apple's Mac Pro with up to 1.5TB of RAM? Yes, it's 1.5TB of RAM. That's way more than the storage capacity of most people's systems these days. That's exactly the kind of monster that Apple has built here. © YouTube/ Jonathan Morrison So what would you do if you have 1.5TB of RAM in your system? Well, for starters, how about opening 6,000 tabs in Google Chrome? At least that's what this YouTube creator did. YouTuber Jonathan Morrison wanted to see what it would take to max out his Mac Pro with 1.5TB of RAM. So he did the most obvious thing that anyone in their right minds would do. He wrote an automated script to run a bunch of websites on a loop. The end result is a fully decked out Google Chrome with 6,000 tabs. First of all, I am even surprised that Google Chrome can handle that without crashing on when you get past the 100 Chrome tabs. But spoiler alert, both the Mac Pro and Google Chrome handled the task very well before giving up. I'd say you can easily open about 5,000 tabs in Google Chrome without any issues. But anything above that, you're treading on dangerous grounds. © YouTube/ Jonathan Morrison Now, you're probably wondering how much it would cost to fit 1.5TB RAM in a Mac Pro. After all, even the base model of Mac Pro will trigger kidney jokes here in India. But don't worry. As long as you're not asking Apple to do it, you'll be spending less. You'll have to go for a third-party option like Morrison did. That being said, it could still be very expensive. View the full article
  7. Chunky sneakers are like a statement luxury that most celebrities have been sporting. Out of all of them, if there's one B-town star who has time and again given us insights into his zany sneaker collection, it's Rajkummar Rao. He has made a sumptuous statement with his versatile pairs and every time he is spotted, we make an effort to dig deeper to find out what's on his feet. © Viral Bhayani Take a look here: © Viral Bhayani One word of advice: it might appear like these shoes are tricky to pull off but investing in them guarantees a double dekko. Even though LED luminous shoes seem to be a thing of the past, they still look sleek and classy in their own way and can instantly rev up your ensemble. Coming to Rajkummar's outfit, he was seen casually strutting with his partner Patralekhaa Paul and Arjun Kapoor. He was seen wearing a denim zipper shirt with classic jeans. Add to that, his adidas cap elevated his laid-back airport ensemble even more. View the full article
  8. Okay, letâs not beat around the bush with this one. The Hummer line of SUVs were the most iconic offroaders that we have ever come across. Such has been the appeal of the American offroader, that everyone who had a massive influence on pop culture and sports, bought one. © GMC Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh had one customised, and so did Captain Cool. A number of Punjabi pop singers as well like Mika Singh and Jazzy B, painstakingly got the SUV imported, at a time when getting a car imported in India meant jumping through hoops after hoops and running one gauntlet after the other. © GMC But the sad reality is, all the three Hummers, the H1, the H2 and the two H3s were atrocious in every way imaginable. The driving experience was abysmal, the fuel economy was a joke at best, and if your country did not have an authorised dealer, finding spare parts outside the US was a nightmare. This wouldnât have been a problem, had the carâs drivetrain not been as fragile as a glass figurine. © GMC It shouldnât come as a surprise that as iconic as the car was, it never really took off commercially outside the US. And therefore, in 2010, the brand shut its door, just after 12 years of commercial operations. All that remained, was their military side of things, which had started in 1992. © GMC; The Humvee, Hummerâs predecessor, as commissioned by the US Armed Forces Cut to 2020 and it seems that the poster boy for Sports Utility Vehicles is all set to make a resounding comeback. And, if General Motors actually deliver what they say they plan to, it may very well turn out to be the comeback of the millennium. © GMC First, there are the numbers that it boasts of. GM claim that the Hummer EV will have an output of 1000 bhp, which is a figure eerily close to the original Bugatti Veyron. As for the torque figure, GM claims that the powertrain driving the Hummer EV will have 11,500 lb-ft or just about 850 Nm of torque, which puts it in eerily close to the Lamborghini Urus, the fastest SUV that we have. Now, all of these figures come with a gigantic asterisk and are not set in stone. So, it should be interesting to see what GM actually offers us when they finally reveal the Hummer EV in May this year. However, given where we stand today, a few things stand clear. Firstly, even if Hummer misses out on these numbers by 10 per cent, they still have an engine thatâs close to 1000 bhp. That, coupled with the fact that they end up with a torque figure of about 800 Nm, should make them unbelievably fast. © GMC; The Hummer HX Concept Car by GM Also, their target of hitting 100 kmph in about 3 seconds means that acceleration is a priority. Now, like most electric cars, Hummer EV should be able to put the power to the road the moment someone touches the accelerator, which should make it go off like a stabbed rabbit. With that being said, it is imperative for GM to keep the EVs light, which has been a chink in GMâs armour and can prove to be even more bothersome, considering how electric vehicles tend to weigh a lot more because of their batteries. © GMC; Digital Rendition of The Hummer HX Concept Car It will be actually interesting to see how GM & Hummer play this out. Thereâs also the fact that Tesla has a much more solid version of the Cybertruck in works; Ford too, has an electric pick up truck in the works. As for us, like most millennial petrolheads who grew up fantasising about driving down a mountain in our bumblebee yellow Hummer H2s, we too will be waiting for May this year with bated breath. 9. Mohit Suri is back with his lucky charm Aditya Roy Kapur and this time, the dynamic duo is bringing a romantic-action drama Malang. Starring Aditya, Disha Patani and the evergreen Anil Kapoor in lead roles, the movie looks like a dark action thriller with some gore, murder, major muscle and lots of abs on the screen, courtesy the good looking on-screen pair. The trailer looks promising in the first few seconds but soon fizzles out like an already opened bottle of Coca Cola. The plot looks confusing and the only main premise one can conclude from this trailer is that the three characters are murderers with motives of their own but other than that, there isn't much to offer. Thirty seconds into the trailer, Disha Patani is seen walking out of the sea in a bikini, reminding us of Pamela Anderson from Baywatch. The actress walks towards the camera in slow motion, as a voiceover about her wanting to be “carefree” plays in the background. Kunal Kemmu makes a blink-and-miss appearance in the trailer but it is pretty obvious that he plays a crucial part in the movie. Disha Patani returns from the dead at the end of the trailer for a surprise, which we thought was too much of a giveaway. Kunal Khemu is great, Aditya is hot. Don't like the trailer much but they managed to keep the suspense atleast. #MalangTrailer https://t.co/8iGAprZC2R — indira ð¦ (@HyderIndira) January 6, 2020 #MalangTrailer samajh nahi aaya... 10. The New Year can mean different things to different people. For some people, it's time to make resolutions and try to stick by them in the new year and for others, it can be a whole new makeover. Ayushmann Khurrana belongs to the latter category apparently. Post serving us with brilliant performances in films like Bala, Dream Girl, AndhaDhun, Article 15 and also having recently wrapped up the shoot for Gulabo Sitabo (his upcoming film), Ayushmann finally took off for his much-deserved sabbatical last week. This 2-3 month sabbatical is his way of rejuvenating himself. For starters, Ayushmann landed in the Bahamas with his family, where he also spent Christmas this year. While there, he experimented with an all casual beach look with quirky skull shorts. © Instagram However, if you notice carefully, he's wearing a bandana which complements the shorts perfectly. But what we discovered recently was the fact that underneath the bandana he's hiding the craziest hairstyle that we've seen in a while. Our first clue was this paparazzi picture, take a look: © Instagram Post this, both Ayushmann and Tahira posted pictures that confirmed our initial inkling. 11. Men love sneakers. That's just a universal fact. Even if you consider yourself to be a style renegade, you cannot deny that when you see a nice pair of sneakers, especially if they have a hint of something fluorescent or have a little weird silhouette, you turn to take a good hard look at them. © iStock Now, given how loaded our B-Towners are, it should not come as a surprise that we have often seen them wear some of the quirkiest, and the zaniest pairs ever. We'll go as far as to say that this decade has been the decade of sneakers. If you haven't been spotted wearing a noteworthy pair, then you haven't been spotted. © Instagram/diljitdosanjh That being said, there are a few sneakerheads and hypebeasts who stand head and shoulders above the rest. And surprisingly, he isn't even a fulltime B-Towner. Diljit Dosanjh's choice of sneakers is as dapper as it can be. For someone who does not have a stylist, and buys all his stuff on his own, we have to say that his choices easily get him a solid A+ when it comes to sneakers. © Instagram/diljitdosanjh Here are some of the most insanely cool pair of sneakers we have seen him wear over the year. Mind you though, saying that they are pricey, would be understating the fact. 1. Versace Zebra Print Chain Reaction Sneakers © Instagram/diljitdosanjh We begin with these pair from Versace. Retailing for Rs. 75,300 when converted, these sneakers have a very quirky print and silhouette which goes really well with the hipster vibe that Diljit usually goes for. We also cannot help but notice the luggage from Off-White that he's posing with, in this image. Talk about being a hypebeast! 2. Versace's Burgundy Chain Reaction Velvet Sneakers © Instagram/diljitdosanjh A different iteration of the Zebra prints, these sneakers with the velvet finish retail for about Rs. 76,000 when converted. The thing that sets the Burgundy apart from the zebra print one is the zany manner in which the orange and red camouflage and the red coloured upper mesh sit really well together. 3. Off-white X Nike Air Force 1 Low Volt © Instagram/diljitdosanjh There was no way that a pair from Off-White wouldn't have been on the list. And indeed, what a quirky pair it is. The neon green Off-white X Nike Air Force 1 Lows retail for about Rs. 57,000, and can often be found for going for much higher on sneaker trading sites. Plus, we really like the way in which Diljit has paired the sneakers with his flashy and loud outfit, with its super aggressive branding. 4. Prada Cloudbust Sneakers In Orange © Instagram/diljitdosanjh And then we have these pair of Orange Cloudbust Sneakers from Prada. Retailing for just under Rs. 53,000 when converted, these sneakers have a very futuristic vibe. That being said, they are certainly in a league of their own, given the neat lines and rather a simplistic silhouette. And the choice to pair it with a neon tracksuit from Prada, is simply genius. 5. Dior Homme B22 Sneakers In White © Instagram/diljitdosanjh One of the chunkiest white sneakers that we have seen anyone wear this year, the B22 from Dior Hommes come in a number of variants, all of which have rather unique and head-turning accents. That being said, they have an understated finesse about themselves. Retailing for about Rs. 77,000, these are definitely the way to go, if you're thinking of going for white chunky sneakers. 6. Balenciaga Triple S In Beige And Grass Green © Instagram/diljitdosanjh Diljit is a huge fan of all things Balenciaga. This is just one of the many Balenciagas that you can see him wear. Just take a look at his Instagram profile, focusing on his sneakers and you'll see that he has a pair in black, another beige pair in yellow, and another beige pair in red and white. Oh, and don't forget all those Balenciaga jackets and sweats that he loves. The price of these particular sneakers? Rs. 64,000. 7. Christian Louboutin Iridescent Orlato © Instagram/diljitdosanjh We have seen a number of celebs wearing the Orlatos from Christian Louboutin, but none of those pairs hold a candle to the pair that Diljit is wearing. A mesmerising mix between an iridescent pair and one with spikes, these pair of Louboutins retail for a hefty Rs. 80,000. View the full article
  12. Leave it to Diljit Dosanjh and he will show you some snazzy ways to amp up your sartorial game. He has a taste for luxury brands and that's no more a surprise for us. A look at his Instagram and you would notice that he is a massive sneakerhead and a hoarder of some super expensive brands. © Viral Bhayani Diljit clearly doesn't shy away from experimenting and that said, he made a really cool statement at the screening of his upcoming movie Good Newwz. Let's take a good look at Diljit's sassy ensemble. © Viral Bhayani © Viral Bhayani There's one thing that strikes us about him and that is he likes to sport sweatshirts that have some quirk element to them. For his recent look, he wore a sweatshirt by Gucci that featured a pink intarsia lamb. This piece is quite eclectic and is knitted with a relaxed fit. There's no doubt that this sweatshirt looks zany and the way he has paired it with black pants makes it even more striking. © Viral Bhayani But, there was another statement piece from his whole outfit that quirked up his dapper look, even more, his wild snake boots. © Viral Bhayani Diljit here is wearing snake boots by Misbhv. The texture is quite smooth and this pair makes a mind-boggling statement with its classic aesthetics. The trend started gaining all the momentum last fall and serpentine printed silhouette definitely has a strong force, even in mens footwear range. This pair is certainly edgy and passes off as an insane pair that we have seen this year. Diljit is currently promoting his upcoming Good Newwz with Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kiara Advani and Akshay Kumar. The movie is all set to release on December 27, 2019. Now, if you have a shortage of boots to wear in winters, you know where to gain all the inspiration from. Hats off, Diljit! View the full article
  13. The winters are here and most of us have already started leaning towards hitting the snooze button and going back to sleep instead of hitting the gym. But, there's one guy who has already unlocked the ultimate level of fitness and is now making men burn in jealousy and women go weak in their knees. That guy is actor-comedian Kumail Nanjiani who has set social media on fire with his insane and unbelievable transformation. Until a year ago, Nanjiani was a guy with a great sense of humour and wit. Now, he's a guy with talent, humour and a ripped body with abs that will hurt when he laughs at his own jokes. Well, the guy even got an honorary mention in the 'Muscular Men' category on PornHub. View this post on Instagram It's been a weird couple of days... This is NOT photoshopped. Pornhub changed their picture of the Muscular Men category to... me. As I said, weird couple of days. A post shared by @ kumailn on Dec 17, 2019 at 8:44am PST In case you didn't know, Nanjiani has been roped in for Marvel's upcoming movie The Eternals and his transformation is for the role of Kingo. The same movie that has names like Kit Harington, Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek. Nanjiani wrote while sharing the pictures of his transformation on social media, "I never thought I'd be one of those people who would post a thirsty shirtless, but I've worked way too hard for way too long so here we are." Same dude, same! We never thought, we'll be talking about your 'thirsty shirtless' pictures. Anyway, he further wrote, "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. I found out a year ago I was going to be in Marvel's Eternals and decided I wanted to transform how I looked. I would not have been able to do this if I didn't have a full year with the best trainers and nutritionists paid for by the biggest studio in the world. I'm glad I look like this, but I also understand why I never did before. It would have been impossible without these resources and time." 14. Anil Kapoor is a magician, if you ask us. We cannot recount the number of times we have seen his pictures on Instagram and asked ourselves, “How on earth does he manage to look so young?” And more to the point, far better than people half his age. © Instagram/anilskapoor Well, we do know that he has an impeccable eye for details and style, and that he takes what he wears very seriously. All of this, however, are just superficial, albeit, very important things. A sense of style of and an eye for detail will only help you to a very limited extent, if you don't have a strong base. Having a healthy and fit physique, A-level energy always at your disposal, is a major aspect that people often miss out on. © Instagram/anilskapoor Now, it seems that we finally know how exactly Anil Kapoor manages to stay jhakaas. It turns out, a lot of it has to do with the way he trains. Now, it's no secret that the man is nothing short of a beast when it comes to training. Even though he is touching 63, he trains in a manner which would leave 20-something Millenials gasping for breath. Take a look - View this post on Instagram Ain't no rain or shine getting in my way! 15. *** is great. Thatâs just a fact that no one can dispute. However, all the paraphernalia that goes alongside this great act of all humankind? Not so much. Take condoms for example. As a contraceptive option and a way to curtail STIs & STDs, they are great. Naturally, given our propensity to use them and actually enjoy the act, experimentations regarding their shape, form and secondary functions have been aplenty. But clearly, there have been instances where things went a little out of hand (bazinga!). Flavoured condoms, for instance, is something thatâs just beyond us. We get the appeal of stuff like chocolates, strawberries and bubblegum, but who came up with the bright idea of making a ginger-flavoured condom? Or for that matter, one that tastes like Chicken Tikka Masala? I mean, what were they even thinking? And then, there is the whole debate on whether flavoured condoms are safe or not. There have been numerous reports which state that flavoured condoms mess up the pH level of your partnerâs nether regions, which may cause all sorts of issues, starting from difficulty in getting wet, rashes, or even irritation. So, before you fancy getting a little playful and get a craving for involving some Hyderabadi Biryani in your bed tonight, consult your partner. In the meantime, have a look at how creative we, as a species, have been when it comes to contraception: 1. Ginger We honestly still havenât been able to figure out how is this even a thing. Who would even buy this, and more importantly, what are they craving? Kudos to the brand, however, advertising it in a cheeky way. 2.   Garlic Granted that this is not that commonly available, but again, why in the name of all things holy would you go for something like this? As a strategy to market their restaurant, the Stinking Rose did come up with a rather witty campaign. As a viable condom, though...Not so clever after all. And what happens if youâre dating a vampire? 3.   Hyderabadi Biryani We literally have no words for this. Just have a proper meal before getting amorous, guys, will you? Plus, weâre pretty sure that this was an April Foolâs Day prank, but what if it wasnât? 4. Sabudana *Rolls Eyes* Oh, here we go again. Yes, this exists. But who even likes sabudana? Is this some April Foolâs day prank that pharmaceutical companies pulled on us. Imagine going to the chemist and saying, âBhaiya, sabudana dena.â 5.  Eggplant How did we not see this coming⦠As phallic as eggplants are in their shape, and as much as we have used it in texting, we have to agree, this one is partially on us. As much as well all love baingan ka bharta, this is proof that certain crossovers are just going a bit too far. 6.   Bacon Dear pharma companies, we get the need to diversify your product portfolio, but can you please not make buying condoms even more difficult than it already is? On second thoughts, we would really like the hotline number where people leave these brilliant ideas. We have some of our own. 7.    Chicken Tikka Masala As much as we all love a really good chicken tikka masala, this is just one more reason for our partners to say no. Whoever thought that having your nether regions covered with actual spice is a good idea, needs to have a word with us. 8.    Weed If the phrase, 'getting high on love' had a physical embodiment, this had to be it. Plus, weâre not sure that its the best way to go about. 9.   Nutella Thanks for ruining this childhood favourite of ours, guys. Thanks a lot. Yes, we get how appealing the idea must have been on paper, but some things are best left on the drawing board. 10.    Scotch Whiskey Seriously, guys? Do we really need to get alcohol into the mix? Doesnât it, anyway, make things a lot difficult? Honourable Mentions: 11. Paan 12. Bubblegum 13. Pickles View the full article
  16. Kartik Aaryan is no stranger when it comes to some really alluring footwear. From some of the zaniest and insane desert boots to an equally zany pair of sneakers that seemed to be held together with pins and straps, he has pulled it all off. This time again, while promoting his upcoming film, Pati Patni Aur Woh, which releases on the December 6, he was spotted in a rather cool, deconstructed, or rather, destroyed pair of boots. But first, letâs get to his outfit. Kartik is wearing a rather hipster-looking hooded sweatshirt from Hummel. The sweatshirtâs colour palette, as understated as it is, goes really well with the all-white and distressed pair of denim that he is wearing. The outfit gives him a really cool and laid back aesthetic, almost as if he is trying to emulate the appearance of a rapper. A really cool and dapper way to dress up for the street, if you ask us. Finally, coming to his shoes, Kartik is seen wearing one of the best pairs of high-top lace-up boots that we have seen this year. Perhaps, the fact that these boots have a velvet finish, is what makes them so appealing. The particular pair that Kartik is seen wearing is the 6 Inch Textile Boots from Timberland and comes courtesy of their collaboration with Off White Virgil Abloh. These Off White X Timberland Textile Boots retail for about $450 or roughly Rs 33,000 on GOAT. Primarily made of nubuck leather, the boots have a very technical and functional clothing vibe, which sits really well with most streetwear outfits, irrespective of the theme. It seems Kartik and his stylists have played around with aesthetic elements such as extra laces and the leather tags of the boot. Considering that it is these very embellishments that give any Off White and Virgil Abloh piece its value and significance, we have to say that removing them was a rather ballsy move. Well, to each his own. All weâll say is that the boots look super zany and awesome. Great going, Kartik! View the full article
  17. I feel like, at this point in time, getting a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the biggest flex for an actor but it wasn't always like that. It's weird to think that some of our favourite Marvel actors actually thought becoming a superhero would end their careers. Recently, BFFs Chris Evans and Scarlet Johansson sat down for a conversation for Variety's Actors on Actors series and talked about everything from their decade-long Marvel experience to their upcoming movies. With so much going on in the entire episode, we thought we would just get some highlights out of it, and the biggest one is, obviously, how both of them feared joining the MCU back in the day. Scarlet joined the MCU almost at the very beginning with Iron Man 2 and at that time, Marvel's ambitious multi-movie narrative was barely starting out. Talking about her initial hesitation on taking the role of Natasha Romanoff, she talked about how easily this could've been a career-ending move if it hadn't worked out. She said, "You don't know how it's gonna go. It seems ridiculous now because of how successful the Marvel stuff is, but it could be, like, career-ending. It felt like that at the time, if it went the wrong way." While her concerns are valid, of course, but now we can just laugh at the irony of it all. Imagine if she had passed on the Black Widow role, I don't think anyone would've had a bigger regret in life than that. It has always been widely known that Chris Evans turned down the role of Steve Rogers multiple times before actually coming on board. It wasn't just the two of them, but back then, while filming The Avengers, the entire cast felt the pressure. The first Avengers movie a bigger crossover than anything ever at that time, the cast feared it could easily go wrong. She said, "When we went on to do Avengers, the first one, all of us were totally... I think everybody was feeling very uneasy about the concept. It was just so absurd." Absurd, but brilliant. Even Chris agreed about how much was at stake with that movie. He said, "It was a big, big endeavour. This is it, this is the moment. If this doesn't work, this pipe dream that we've been hearing about could derail very quickly." While the movie was quite ambitious, given the success of all the individual Marvel movies, I would think that it was pretty clear that The Avengers would be a huge success. Moving on, Chris also talked about - or was forced to talk about - the most important question every Marvel fan has for him - is he ever going to pick up that shield again? (or maybe, Mjolnir also now) He obviously didn't give a straight answer and kept it very, very vague. He said, "You know, you never say never. I love the character. It's not a hard no but it's not an eager yes either. There's other things I'm working on right now." He went on, "I think Cap had such a tricky arc to stick the landing and I think they did a really nice job letting him complete his journey. If you're gonna revisit it, it can't be a cash-grab, it can't be just because audiences would be excited. A lot of things would have to come together. It doesn't feel at this time like that would be the thing that I'm looking to do." So, there you have it, we're not getting Chris as Cap again, not anytime soon, at least. View the full article
  18. Karan Johar is quite the collector when it comes to off-beat outfits. Case in point, a recent event wherein he carried a bizarre look that intrigued us all. He was seen in a black and golden pantsuit by Issey Miyake along with a pair of Rick Owens boots and Yohji Yamamoto shades to complete the look. Take a look: © Viral Bhayani However, the fascinating aspect of his outfit lied in his boots. The Rick Owens silhouette is from FW'19 and is called the Larry Elastic Kiss Boots. They come for the price of $1413 which comes down to Rs 1,00,450. Here's what the silhouette looks like at a closer look: © Rick Owens This look especially stands out because the boots, as they appear, are a minimum of six inches long which also happens to be more than average of what women wear to events. Usually, regular shoes can give you an additional inch or two but this pair of Rick Owens is clearly an exception to the rule. So for example in this picture, if you look at Ananya Pandey with Karan Johar, you'll notice that Karan Johar's kiss boots are in fact taller than Ananya's heels. Take a look here: © Viral Bhayani This is not the first time Karan Johar has been spotted in a bizarre-looking outfit. In fact, in the past, he was spotted with a bag that changed colours like a chameleon. He was also seen wearing a sweatshirt with a to-do list on it. For Karan Johar, it seems like it isn't very hard to cherry-pick the best silhouettes for his flashy looks. We can't wait to see what he has in store for us next.
  19. Last month, a few details about Sony's next PlayStation were revealed in a Wired article where Sony dropped some specs as well. So far, the specifications look quite impressive and there's a lot of excitement about the upcoming consoles from gamers and developers alike. We got to know that the next console will have far faster load times and even have support for ray-tracing. How effective that would be on next-gen games, remains to be seen though. While speaking to Gaming Bolt, founders of Okomitive Don Schmocker and Goran Saric revealed that they are quite impressed with PS5's specifications. They were impressed in particular with the Zen Z processor. “It will definitely bring console performances closer to PC / desktop settings, which means less optimizations for ports," said Schmocker and Saric. This means that future games would require fewer optimisations for its PC versions and there will be more ports of the games made. It also means that some PC exclusive games can also release on future consoles if the performance is at par or close enough. For gamers, they will see more cross-releases than ever before which is always healthy for the gaming industry. Sony PS5 is not expected to launch any sooner than 2020, however, the Japanese company has provided an early look at what the next console is capable of. During a meeting in Japan today, Sony showed off load times of a scene on both the PS4 Pro and next-gen hardware. The results look quite impressive as you can see for yourself from the video below: Sony's official video comparing performance of PS4 Pro vs next-gen PlayStation pic.twitter.com/2eUROxKFLq — Takashi Mochizuki (@mochi_wsj) May 21, 2019 Sony's PS5 is expected to have a very powerful GPU and CPU that will be based on AMD's eight-core Ryzen chips. The new cores will be built on AMD's 7nm Zen 2 architecture and a custom Navi board. The custom board will have support extremely high-end graphics and features like ray tracing. Other improvements include 3D audio that will be most noticeable when playing on headsets. The other major hardware upgrade would be the inclusion of SSDs. The consoles will be shipped with in-built SSDs that will reduce load times considerably. The SSD on the PS5 is said to be different from what's available in the market right now and is said to be even faster. Source: Gaming Bolt
  20. There was a time when people were dangerously walking around on roads holding their smartphones looking for Pokemon. Well, the 'Pokemon Go' craze may have died down, but you may start seeing people doing the same thing again, except this time for Microsoft's new AR game called 'Minecraft Earth'. That's right, Microsoft has just revealed a new AR game for both Android and iOS called 'Minecraft Earth', and it's essentially a game that'll put life-sized Minecraft holograms of virtual trees, houses, etc. into the real world. Much like 'Pokemon Go' which made AR gaming a thing, 'Minecraft Earth' will also rely on your smartphone as a window into the virtual world. In 'Minecraft Earth', however, you won't find yourself running into, say, a Pikachu. You'll literally be building elaborate Minecraft creations that others can see and experience for themselves. From what it looks like, 'Minecraft Earth' is still the same game which a lot of us have been playing for a long time. Just like in the original version of 'Minecraft', you'll be hunting for resources, exploring new areas for creation, etc. The only difference being you'll be doing it out in the real world via a smartphone, instead of your TV or the computer screen. © Microsoft There's still a lot that we don't know about this game, but it looks like a lot of fun. Microsoft says it'll kick off a closed beta of 'Minecraft Earth' this summer on iOS and Android. We believe that it'll be super-limited at launch and it'll be rolling out in select locations. Don't worry though, it'll be available for free to download on both Android and iOS when it officially arrives whenever Microsoft thinks it's ready for a release.
  21. I am pretty sure the fanboy in you hits 'boht hard' when you see actors like Ranveer Singh transform dramatically for a movie. via GIPHY In literally no time, Ranveer drastically transforms from lean to shredded and your inspiration breaks the roof and hits the stars. To find out more about his transformation and methods, you check his interviews on every platform and set yourself up. via GIPHY Your Goa trip is also approaching in 12 weeks, so the decision to transform yourself in line with Ranveer's methods seems possible for you now. On top of that, you've seen your favourite actors achieving that look endless number of times. But, are you aware of the dark secrets behind those drastic transformations? Here they are: 1. It's Not Realistic For You: Most of us work in a stressful job which takes a lot of our time, efforts and mental space. Sometimes, while attempting these transformations, we forget that we have a full-time job and other life stresses to handle too. However, it's our favourite superstar's job to look good. They don't have any other major thing to take care of apart from this. They will also go to any length to achieve the transformation. Also, they might adopt any and every serious measure to achieve that look. Be it training for endless hours, survive on little food and take anabolic steroids. 2. It's Not Healthy: To transform yourself from a pot belly to a shredded core, you need to consume a caloric restricted diet. Now, the severity of caloric restriction depends on the time you need to be ready in. And for drastic transformations like those, you will need to get under a caloric restriction of at least 1000-1500 calories per day. This simply means: 1. Eating salads and chicken throughout the day. Because these are the best foods which will keep you slightly full in those minuscule calories. 2. No participation in any kind of social outings. You can't afford eating out in that caloric budget. 3. Your mental health takes a severe toll. This can invite anxiety & depression to rule your mind. 4. Your *** drive might take a hit and you might lose interest in any activity. This is your body's smart mechanism of saving energy. 3. Anabolic Steroids: Apologies for saying this, but your favourite actors might be using anabolic steroids. In all probability, these drastic transformations require steroids. We all know that help from Performance Enhancement Drugs fastens the process 10x. This sets false expectations in recreational lifters like us. In summary, drastic transformations like these are not just hard to achieve but can take a big toll on our life, health and responsibilities. Instead of comparing yourself with these actors, set realistic timelines for your bodies. This will prevent you from regretting later. © Getty Images It makes sense to get inspired by their transformations and take it as a source of motivation. However, as wise men, we should filter out information which is not practical for us. Instead, we should set realistic goals according to our lifestyle and adopt measures according to that. Even if it takes more time than their transformations, we should embrace it. 22. One cannot imagine or fathom anybody other than the mighty Robert Downey Jr. playing the crazy Tony Stark aka Iron Man. Gadgets, gizmos, technologically advanced and making a reality out of dreams is what defines Tony for us in the movie. Turns out, Robert is no different in real life as well. One look inside his crazy 19th century windmill home (yes, the dude did it) and you're convinced why he was meant to be the super cool Iron Man. Varun and Alia are currently busy promoting their film 'Kalank'. This time around, the expectations are extremely high from the film and the 'Batch of 2019'. via GIPHY Well, at least they have successfully managed to retain one thing from the first movie - 'SOTY 2' is as exaggerated and larger than life as the first one. Seriously, who organises such extreme sports events? And which sporting event has a dance competition as one of the winning criteria? Dharma Productions Most parts of the trailer were owned by Tiger Shroff and his abs and his veins popping out of his arms. Tara Sutaria and Ananya Panday too were a part of the trailer in their own 'blink and miss' ways. Dharma Productions Talking about the storyline, Tiger Shroff plays Rohan who has his heart set on the 'Dignity Cup', an inter-college sports championship. He is however expelled, so he joins another college to participate in the same competition to beat his rivals (Also, this is not a spoiler, it's there in the trailer). Amidst all of this, Tiger has to also deal with a complicated love triangle going on between him, Tara and Ananya. Tough life, I must say! Directed by Punit Malhotra, 'Student Of The Year 2' is releasing on May 10.
  24. Vicky Kaushal is making headlines every day and for good reason. Delivering great movies one after the other, he's no more the boy next door. He has arrived. From supporting roles to carrying his own films flawlessly, the actor has really evolved. © Instagram/amandeepkaur But aside from his stellar acting, and great performances the actor also has a relatable sense of style. It's the kind of style that is neither too experimental and nor too loud and yet it makes a statement and an impressive one at that. Unlike actors like Ranveer Singh and Aparshakti Khurana who rely on the element of shock value to express their sense of personality pulling off impossible things with stride, Vicky Kaushal stays conventional and hits the right notes of style pairing the best of everything together. © Instagram/amandeepkaur Case in point: for the Filmfare awards, Vicky Kaushal wore the classic bow tie with a tuxedo. The thing about something so classic and conventional is that anyone can easily go wrong with them. But not Vicky Kaushal. He added a classic pair of brogues by House Of Sunil Mehra with a surface that has the perfect balance of shine and ruggedness on it. The shoes were the star of this outfit. They lifted the outfit and took it to another level. Take a look: © Instagram/amandeepkaur Hands up if you too want to get shoes like Vicky Kaushal because we do.
