  1. Whatsapp is rolling out a feature for the users to view the status updates within their chat list, WABetaInfo reports
  2. There have not been many good films about cricket made in the Hindi film industry. You can count on your fingers the number of good films about cricket in India and the latest Disney+ Hotstar offering, Kaun Pravin Tambe? is a welcome addition to that list. The movie is about Pravin Tambe (Shreyas Talpade) whose dream is to play Ranji cricket and has been after the tournament since his 20s, but, somehow, he fails to make the cut each time. At 40 now, Pravin has lost all hope and has been asked to retire and then comes a twist in his life. Who doesn’t love a true underdog story? Director Jayprad Desai treats it like one and to be honest, half of his job was done when he got his hands on such an inspiring story. However, the screenplay could’ve been better. The non-linear plot didn’t make much sense or added value to the narrative. © Disney+ Hotstar Also, I didn’t really like the way Pramabrata Chatterjee’s character was written. He plays a sports journalist in the film and is sort of an antagonist. But, it mostly seemed forced. Since the film wasn’t a big-budget one, it’s commendable how the makers cut corners by filming mostly indoors to avoid spending money on creating the ‘80s & the ‘90s. The editing was pretty good. The cinematography could’ve been better and the VFX was not up to the mark. Despite its shortcomings, Kaun Pravin Tambe? works thanks to the perfect casting of Shreyas Talpade in the lead role. He carries the film on his shoulder and makes sure it reaches the finish line with flying colours. Shreyas, who made his Bollywood debut with a cricket-based film Iqbal, has come full circle with another film about cricket. While the former started his career, let’s hope this one becomes the starting point of his second innings in Bollywood and a glorious one. Prambrata Chatterjee performs his role well and has a good screen presence but his character didn’t add much value to the plot. Ashish Vidyarthi is so good as Pravin’s coach. His scene towards the end in front of a TV screen is what great acting is all about. Anjali Patil is outstanding as Pravin’s supportive wife, however, Arif Zakaria doesn’t get much scope. © Disney+ Hotstar Overall, Kaun Pravin Tambe? is totally worth your time. It is an inspiring & entertaining biopic starring an equally brilliant Shreyas Talpade. View the full article
  3. Being a huge fan of Kapoor & Sons (2016) and as someone who found Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (2012) quite interesting as a rom-com, I was eagerly looking forward to Shakun Batra’s third directorial stint in Gehraiyaan. He is one filmmaker who has proved time and again that there is no one in Bollywood who can handle relationship dramas as skillfully and with uniqueness & freshness as he can. Gehraiyaan too is a testament to that. The film is about a yoga instructor Alisha (Deepika Padukone), who is in a live-in relationship with her childhood friend Karan (Dhairya Karwa) and shares a broken relationship with her cousin Tia (Ananya Panday). 4. Playing cricket at the biggest stage is a dream only a few manage to live. However, if you are in Melbourne and haven’t played Test cricket, you can be part of the Big Bash League final between Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers on Friday. Captain of the Sydney-based franchise and Australia all-rounder Daniel Christian took to Twitter to come up with a unique offer that showed the struggles teams have to go through during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. View this post on Instagram Sydney Sixers are struggling to field 11 fit players for the summit clash as some of their players are battling injuries while a couple of men are out after testing positive for COVID-19. Christian invited anyone in ‘Melbourne’ who is fit and Covid free to join the team’s warm-up at the Marvel Stadium on Friday. The all-rounder, who played for Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore last year, also offered free beer but put a condition that the individual should not be a Test cricketer. Shout out to anyone* in Melbourne that wants a game of cricket tomorrow night. My team is struggling to get 11 covid free, fit players on the park. Warm up starts at 6.30pm at Marvel Stadium. Free beer afterwards, potentially out of a large cup. DM if keen *no test cricketers — Dan Christian (@danchristian54) January 27, 2022 "Shout out to anyone* in Melbourne that wants a game of cricket tomorrow night. My team is struggling to get 11 covid free, fit players on the park. Warm up starts at 6.30pm at Marvel Stadium. Free beer afterwards, potentially out of a large cup. DM if keen *no test cricketers,” Christian tweeted. While fans came up with interesting replies to the tweet put out on social media by the Sydney Sixers skipper, the offer was so intriguing that it even caught the attention of South Africa’s legend AB de Villiers and England speedster Jofra Archer. I’m keen if u can guarantee me my 4 overs? — AB de Villiers (@ABdeVilliers17) January 27, 2022 The former South Africa batter said he is ‘keen to play’ if Christian can guarantee that de Villiers will get the chance to bowl four overs in the match. Do I have to pay subs? — Jofra Archer (@JofraArcher) January 27, 2022 Archer, who has been away from cricket due to injury, asked the Sydney skipper if he needs to pay the substitutes to feature in the summit clash of the BBL. After Australia’s series against New Zealand was postponed, star batter Steve Smith had shown interest to represent the Sixers in BBL but his request was denied by the cricket board due to a new rule that was introduced for substitute players for teams affected by the virus. Sydney Sixers have elected to bowl first! #BBL11 Josh Philippe, who is ruled out after testing positive for Covid-19, has been replaced by assistant coach Jay Lenton Match updates https://t.co/Qk7giTrqvX pic.twitter.com/X7V8DHrNJp — ESPNcricinfo (@ESPNcricinfo) January 26, 2022 On Wednesday, an unusual sight was on display as Sydney Sixers had to include their assistant coach Jay Lenton into the playing XI after wicket-keeper batter Josh Philippe was ruled out of the match as he tested positive for Covid. Sydney managed to beat Adelaide Strikers in a last-ball finish to seal a place in the final of Big Bash League. View the full article
