  1. The changes are being made according to the chief minister’s vision, and are aimed at providing better facilities to the masses. Photo: FileQUETTA: Provincial Secretary for the Health Department, Muddassir Waheed Malik, said Wednesday that new reforms have been introduced in the health sector to bring about changes in government-run hospitals of Balochistan. The changes are being made according to the chief minister’s vision, and are aimed at providing better facilities to the masses, the official said. While talking to media, Malik said that strict action would be taken against absent doctors and other staff members if hospitals do not perform adequately, which will encourage doctors and staff to perform honestly and responsibly. Malik added that funds for the health sector have also been increased in the financial budget 2019-20 under the directives of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Jam Kamal Khan to address hospitals' problems. Read more: PM performs groundbreaking of Balochistan Health Complex, Gwadar airport The chief minister has directed that the latest equipment be provided to respective hospitals to ensure quality of treatment, he said. He said that the provincial government is also utilising all available resources to improve the public's confidence in government-run hospitals, saying that it was a "top priority" of the government to resolve problems of health department employees, including doctors, because the health staff is directly responsible for improving services in hospitals. He added that a health team was being formed to address the current shortage of doctors and availability of medicines to facilitate people in the rural areas of the province. He also urged doctors to play a more responsible role for the betterment of needy patients.
  2. Pakistan’s most sought-after couple Iqra Aziz and Yasir Hussain have taken the internet by storm after they tied the knot on Saturday. The 35-year-old Chhalawa actor is now turning to Instagram to introduce his ladylove to the world, for the first time as his wife. Sharing a jaw-dropping shot of Iqra as a bride donning a traditional red bridal ensemble from head to toe by Nomi Ansari, Yasir wrote: “Meet my Wife Iqra Aziz Hussain,” adding the hashtag: “#wifeforever.” The Suno Chanda actor also turned to her social media to share a glimpse from their wedding as the newly-turned husband and wife struck a pose in front of the camera while Iqra dropped the caption: “My Forever #alhamdulilah Thankyou all for your Duas.” The star-studded fairy tale nuptials of the power couple were attended by several of Pakistan’s finest luminaries including Asad Siddiqui, Asim Azhar, Hania Amir, Sajal Ali, Ahad Raza Mir, Saheefa Jabbar Khattak, Aiman Khan and Mubeen Butt, Feroze Khan, Frieha Altaf, Nomi Ansari, Asim Raza and Momal Sheikh.

  4. It's that time of the year again. When you forget about everything else and spend all your time reading up on 'Avengers: Endgame.' This time is extra special since it's the last movie in the lineup (No, we're not forgetting 'Far From Home,' but that's more of an introduction to Phase IV than a culmination for Phase III). We've been waiting 10 years for this masterpiece and while it's already confirmed to have the largest number of superheroes in a single movie ever, the number might just be a little higher than you expect. Besides everyone who has been confirmed for 'Avengers: Endgame' here are a few names you may or may not have heard that may make an appearance in the movie: 1. Beta Ray Bill We already know that Beta Ray Bill exists in the MCU. For die-hard fans, they'll remember the large statue of his beside the Hulk on Sakaar in 'Thor: Ragnarok.' © Marvel Studios They've already laid the groundwork for this one and it's a possibility for sure. Think about it. Thor needs to get a new Mjolnir. Who's going to wield Stormbreaker when that happens? Who was Stormbreaker originally created for? You guessed it, Beta Ray Bill. 2. Black Knight There are a lot of theories about the Black Knight and how he is going to have an important role to play in the Quantum Realm journey of the Avengers. But, how much of this is fact is debatable? There are some action figures that were released too but knowing Marvel's propensity to mess with fans and theorists alike, it could end up meaning nothing. It's safe to say that the Black Knight would probably be the most underwhelming inclusion to the MCU if we do get to see him. A cursed sword, that's all he has… 3. Nova There was a lot of speculation about whether or not Nova would make an appearance in 'Avengers: Infinity War.' Unfortunately, that didn't happen. But, we have to admit, things have been set up quite well for an appearance by the last survivor of the Nova Corps. We all remember how Xandar was destroyed off-screen in 'Infinity War'. That's how Thanos got his first Infinity stone, the Power stone. As the story goes, this destruction of Xandar is what led to the creation of the superhero Nova. Unfortunately, with Captain Marvel filling in the role of the superpowered being, the chances of another one being introduced so soon are slim. 4. Adam Warlock Yes, he's probably going to get the main role in 'Guardians Of The Galaxy 3,' but there's no reason why we can't hope to see more of Adam Warlock in 'Avengers: Endgame.' © Marvel Warlock is supposed to be the original owner of the Soul stone but since the stone is already with Thanos, we could see him showing up in 'Avengers: Endgame' to reclaim what is rightfully his. He's also used the Infinity Gauntlet on one occasion. Who knows… 5. X-Men Okay, the last one may seem the most far-fetched theory of the lot. But, it's actually among the most probable. Yes, we have seen Quicksilver in the MCU and his sister, Scarlet Witch, is one of the strongest Avengers right now. But, they're miracles, not mutants. With Disney buying Fox though, chances of mutants appearing in the MCU are at their peak. The Mind stone is what gave the Maximoff twins their powers in the MCU. It might just be the MacGuffin that ends up waking up the latent mutant genes in humans around the world. Also, there are rumours of an end-credits scene with Charles Xavier. Think it could happen? One last thing, before you go ahead and start dissing me for listing spoiler after spoiler you need to understand that these are all theories. They are possibilities. I don't know if any of them are going to happen for sure. But, if one (or multiple) of these theories turns out to be true, don't call it a spoiler, instead, call it a prediction that came true.

  6. In a country where most sports, other than cricket, fail to get their share of recognition, skier Aanchal Thakur created history after becoming the first Indian ever to win a medal at an international skiing event. The 21-year-old Manali girl, competing in the slalom race category, hogged the rare limelight after clinching the bronze medal at the coveted Alpine Ejder 3200 Cup in Turkey. Well done @alleaanchal for winning an international medal in skiing! The entire nation is ecstatic on your historic accomplishment at the FIS International Skiing Competition in Turkey. Wishing you the very best for your future endeavours. — Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) January 10, 2018 Amongst the congratulatory messages pouring in from every corner of the country, the young skier had a special message from none other than Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Taking to Twitter, the 67-year-old wrote: "Well done @alleaanchal for winning an international medal in skiing! The entire nation is ecstatic on your historic accomplishment at the FIS International Skiing Competition in Turkey. Wishing you the very best for your future endeavours". Finally something unexpected happened. My first ever international medal.ð Federation International Ski Race (FIS). At the end turkey served me well ðð. PC- @alwyncreed #strangethingshappen #skiteamindia #onehimachal #himalayangirls pic.twitter.com/pjkSddCpi5 — Aanchal Thakur (@alleaanchal) January 9, 2018 Seeing their kids bring laurels to their country would make any parent proud, but a congratulatory message from the Prime Minister himself doesn't come around too often. It wasn't surprising at all to see Aanchal's father Roshan Lal Thakur revel in the triumph of his daughter. However, if his young daughter made the nation proud, Thakur himself boasts of an unique feat that he wasn't too shy to reveal. Reacting to Modi's message for his daughter, Aanchal's father took everyone by surprise after disclosing that he introduced the Indian PM to paragliding. © Facebook/Roshan Lal While Modi's passion for trying new things is nothing surprising, the fact that did paraglide and knows how to do it properly would surely surprise many of his followers. In late 1990s, Modi was in-charge of the Himachal Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) when he visited Solang on a political tour. © Facebook/Roshan Lal "A local leader brought Modiji to show him the paragliding facility. The ground was slushy because it had been raining. He wanted to give it a try but I said he couldn't because you need a firm ground for the run-up. But he was adamant. He tried it and he was hooked," narrated Thakur senior, who added that he had attended Modi's rallies in the recent elections. Well, what are the odds? A man whose daughter bagged the country's first-ever international medal in skiing also turns out to be the guy who introduced the Indian PM to paragliding. Both these things are achievements in their own capacity.
  7. In our growing years, we used to play games like hide and seek, football, basketball, finding objects, ice and water and more. However with the advent of technology and virtual games, the former took a backseat as more and more kids started switching to the video games. Those incessant candy crush requests were proof enough for us to understand the obsession of people towards online games. Having said that, things now seem to have taken a 360 degree turn and given this generation a new toy to drool over – a fidget spinner. The craze around this spinner, which has already taken America and UK by storm, is no joke. We all know by now how big this deal is right now and by the looks of the attention it is getting, we don’t think its popularity will die down anytime soon. © Pixabay It is said that the fidget spinner was originally created to help develop fine motor skills in autistic children. It was, in fact, also used by people to release their stress. But, clearly none of it seems to be happening at the moment. All it has really done is added fuel to the already burning popularity of this little toy and while all this is going on, how can we Indians stay quite. Thanks to some geniuses, we realized that the world is losing its sh*t over fidget spinners only now, while we have been using them since time immemorial. Don’t believe us? Well, after going through these tweets you might nod your heads in agreement. From Lord Krishna’s sudarshan chakra to Indian mothers’ flying chappals, Twitter found a fidget spinner in almost everything that we use. Let’s just applaud these guys for proving that we Indians are definitely ahead of our time. Even those who never heard of Ash Ketchum or Pikachu or never saw any of the cartoons, were trying to swim in this wave and catch as many Pokeballs as possible in this augmented reality game. It’s so funny and exciting to see how all the good old things, games and toys are coming back to us in new forms.
  8. While some may believe that Kong: Skull Island is the first movie in a new franchise, it’s not true. ‘Skull Island’ is actually the second movie in a Warner Bros./Legendary franchise preceded by the 2014 monster movie ‘Godzilla’ (Every reference to Godzilla here will be to the 2014 movie and not the 1998 movie which scored 16% on Rotten Tomatoes. Do we really need to justify ourselves?) © YouTube ‘Skull Island’ is set in 1973 towards the end of the Vietnam War which technically makes it a prequel to ‘Godzilla’ although the opening scene there is set in 1954. Then again, the opening scene in this movie is set in 1944. It’s a little complicated to explain but if you watch both movies back to back, you’ll figure it out easily. © Twitter Unlike ‘Godzilla’ where you had to wait forever to see the entire creature, we are introduced to Kong within a minute in this movie. In the 2005 King Kong movie, Kong was 25 feet tall. A 25-foot Kong in this universe would be crushed by Godzilla who is a massive 350 feet tall. Kong, in this movie, is 100 feet in height and it’s also mentioned that he’s still growing. He should be around the same size as Godzilla when both monsters meet in 2020’s ‘Godzilla vs Kong’. Now that’s ‘massive.’ © Twitter Enough geeking out on the technicalities, let’s talk business. There are hardly any original movies being made today. It’s like society has reached a stage where the best new idea is ‘based on a true story’ or is a remake. What’s changed? Is it because of culture? Are we so comfortable and protected that we don’t feel the need to use our brains anymore? If you feel pop culture is the only thing that’s suffering because of this and we don’t need to worry, just Google who the leader of the free world is right now. No matter who you are, you wouldn’t have believed the answer back in 2015. © YouTube Back to the movies. Marvel showed us back in 2008 that even one of the most successful movie franchises ever could start from a very unlikely source, an obscure character no one really cared about in the comic books (Ironman). It looks like Legendary have struck gold with this franchise in pretty much the same way. © YouTube There are 35 movies starring Godzilla as of now and just 8 with Kong. But, this in no way means Kong is any less popular. It’s just that Godzilla was a Japanese creation while Kong was American. While the Japanese audience would argue, we’re influenced by American pop culture here in India so for us, Kong and Godzilla are neck and neck. Two more movies have been announced in this franchise, ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’, and ‘Godzilla vs Kong’. But since 2019 is a long way away, here are a few cool facts about these behemoths you probably didn’t know: King Kong was the first movie ever to be re-released. Gojira, the Japanese name for Godzilla comes from the Japanese words gorilla (gorilla) and whale (kujira). © Wikimedia Commons Willis O’Brien, a former boxer, taught Kong some wrestling moves which helped the monster battle Godzilla. He was also the man who brought Kong to life. © Tumblr Godzilla was initially meant to be a metaphor for the Atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The first movie came out just 9 years after the bombings. © Twitter King Kong was created in 1933, Godzilla in 1954. This makes Kong older. © Pinterest Godzilla has fought the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. © Wikimedia Commons King Kong and Godzilla have faced off twice in the past with Kong winning both battles. © Tumblr There is a famous Spider Pit scene which was deleted from the 1933 King Kong movie and subsequently lost. It was recreated by Peter Jackson in 2005 and offered as an Easter Egg with the DVD. © YouTube Godzilla has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a lifetime achievement award from MTV, and has played basketball with Charles Barkley. © Twitter We can’t wait for 2020 when these monsters face-off for the first time in the 21st century.
  9. Known for training the ‘crème-de-la-crème’ of the society, IITs have majorly been synonymous with courses for engineering and medical technology. However IIT Kharagpur is setting a new trend and this move can open up new avenues of a brighter future for Indian students. The premium institute is introducing a first-of-its-kind school on Quality and Reliability (Q&R) which aims to improve the quality of life and carve students into global citizens whose primary focus will be on quality. © BCCL Every time we hear someone say they’re from IIT, we automatically assume that they must be either mechanical or electrical engineering students. Our families too, focus on certain courses only instead of asking us which field we are interested in. We hope that this school will give a new approach to education and people will now look forward to the school of Q&R will equal passion. © BCCL This school will also focus on working towards the trinity of the 3 Ps i.e. Process, Planet and People that is said to target Engineering, Human and Natural systems. According to the Director of IIT Kharagpur, Prof. P. P. Chakrabarti, the school will bring together students and faculty members of various disciplines and will offer courses, research and mission-mode programmes to bring about a social transformation, while working closely with other academic units in the institute. Reportedly, Dr. Subir Chowdhury, the Institute’s notable alumnus, will be supporting this initiative. In times where people still put a lot of emphasis on conventional courses, this move will not just help students come out of their comfort zones and try their hands at newer fields, but will also drive us out of the habit of only mugging things up and not learning anything. For all those 12th standard students looking forward to their board exams, we are sure this news will cheer you up. Source: Indian Express
  10. The last time Kodak was relevant, many of us were still in school. But, they've emerged from the ashes, and while photography is still their main focus, they've also announced a new smartphone called the Ektra. For those who don't remember, Kodak had released a camera called Ektra back in 1941. Even though it didn't do too well, some of the features on that camera were way ahead of their time. © Facebook/Kodak Back to the present, the current Ektra smartphone comes with a 21-megapixel fast-focus camera on the back and a 13-megapixel front-facing camera. If that isn't enough to excite you, it also comes with an SLR-style dial which lets you choose from a number of settings including high-speed, HDR, macro, panorama, bokeh, and night-mode. It also has a manual mode where you can adjust ISO, exposure, focus, shutter speed, and white balance. Its ergonomic form and large lens makes it look somewhat like a point-and-shoot. It even has a dedicated dual-press shutter button. The smartphone also comes with a pre-loaded app called Print which lets you place orders for physical copies of photographs you have taken. There are a number of phot-editing apps on this high-end smartphone too including Adobe Lightroom, Snapseed, and Prisma. We don't have too much information on the availability for this smartphone right now, but from what we gather, it is only going to be available in select European markets. It has been priced at £449/€499 and will be available in December.
