  1. Mumbai Indians’ pocket-sized dynamite Ishan Kishan has made an impressive start to the IPL 2022 campaign, blasting 135 runs in just two innings. The 23-year-old, who was picked for a whopping Rs 15.25 crore in last month’s mega auction, has done justice to his incredibly high price tag thus far and repaid the faith shown in him by the team management. View this post on Instagram However, despite his brilliance with the bat, the record IPL champions have yet to register their first win of the season but looking at their performance, the victory seems just around the corner. The southpaw was all of 17 when he made his IPL debut for the now defunct Gujarat Lions back in 2016, who had bought him for Rs 40 lakh. In his maiden season, he struggled to get going and could manage only 42 runs in five outings. View this post on Instagram The next season he roared like a lion and made his presence felt, smashing 277 runs in 11 appearances. It was enough for him to get on the radar of a champion side like Mumbai Indians. The Rohit Sharma-led side went all-out to sign the defender in the 2018 mega auction and splashed a whopping Rs 6.20 crore to tie him to their contract. View this post on Instagram It was a life-changing moment for the teenager and during an interaction on Breakfast with Champions, the wicketkeeper-batter shared how his family members reacted to his bumper IPL contract that made him an overnight crorepati. Kishan said he wasn’t too affected by the huge bidding war but his mom and dad were over cloud nine. The MI opener revealed that his dad got so excited during the auction that his blood pressure took a hit and he had to go to the hospital to get it checked. “I was chilled out. It was my auction, I should be stressed about it. I had gone to play football with my friends. When the auction ended I got a call from Monu Bhai. He is telling me what all happened at the auction. I was like ‘it’s good I have been sold at good money, I should go home and meet everyone’,” Kishan said on the famous show. “I went home and saw that mom is on the call, cheeks red and on a call. I saw that dad wasn't even there. I asked where is dad? She said, ‘He has gone to the hospital to check his BP’. I am thinking ‘what has happened to my family?’ (laughs),” said Kishan recalling his family’s reaction to his first major IPL auction. View this post on Instagram Since joining Mumbai Indians, the dashing wicket-keeper has gone from strength to strength and even made his India debut in the limited-overs format. Three years after earning that huge paycheck in 2018, Kishan has gone on to become the most expensive player in MI history. Given the start he has had this season, don’t be surprised if he topped the run-scoring chart and added another feather to his cap. View the full article
  2. In the game between the Rajasthan Royals and the Mumbai Indians, Navdeep Saini was seen crumpled up in pain after taking a fine catch in the field to eliminate Ishan Kishan, who looked threatening for a huge score. The speedster was given a chance in the starting XI after the Royals elected to go into the game with only three foreign players, and he did not get off to a great start, allowing a lot in his first over of the season. View this post on Instagram He did, however, take the wicket of Anmolpreet Singh and was ecstatic after returning off the final ball of his first over. At 149 kmph, Saini produced the fastest ball of the match as he's also recognised for clocking some extremely quick deliveries. When Tilak Varma top-edged one of Prasidh Krishna's balls, he had a 50-50 chance at a challenging catch while standing at mid-off, but he couldn't get hold of it. As far as the catch is concerned, Kishan and Varma were up and racing on the chase, robbing the Royals of the game. Sanju Samson's side needed a wicket badly, so the skipper brought in Trent Boult, the most likely pacer to get one. View this post on Instagram Kishan drew a short delivery from Boult into the deep square leg region, where Saini was a touch wider. The Delhi seamer made a fantastic catch, but in the process, he injured his head while sliding down. Despite a head injury, Saini came out to deliver the final over of the innings with 28 runs to defend, and he bowled brilliantly. With the field crowded in the offside, the 29-year-old started with two wides and allowed a four, but managed to bowl straight into the blockhole when it mattered. Saini's spell ended with 2 for 36 in three overs, and he was also impressive on the field. After winning their second consecutive match of the tournament while also maintaining a strong Net Run Rate, Rajasthan Royals have found themselves to be at the very top of the IPL 2022 points table. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians lost both their matches so far and are at seated at 9th place in the points table. View the full article
  3. Ishan Kishan was hit on the helmet during the match against Sri Lanka in the second T20I in Dharamshala. Soon after he was dismissed, he was reportedly rushed to the hospital and admitted into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). It happened in the fourth over of the match when the Indian opener was facing Sri Lankan pacer Lahiru Kumara, who produced a bouncer out of nowhere that caught the batter by surprise. Hoping to pull the shot in a desperate attempt to save his head, Kishan swung blindly but the pace was too much for him to keep up with. According to reports, Ishan Kishan and Dinesh Chandimal have been taken to a hospital after the second T20I in Dharamsala. Kumara, who had just delivered a 146 kmph delivery rushed to the opponent who physically looked dazed and was moving around the stadium like a headless chicken. The 23-year old immediately removed his helmet and crouched to the ground to catch his breath. Doctors and the medical staff were brought onto the field to look after the southpaw and check for concussions on a temporary basis. However, once Kishan was dismissed a couple of overs later, he was rushed to the hospital. He was later moved to a normal ward after the computed tomography (CT) scan. Rohit Sharma and his boys were able to defeat the touring Sri Lankan team by chasing down their total of 183 runs within 17.1 overs and seven wickets to spare. With this victory, the hosts have achieved an unassailable 2-0 victory in a three-match series. The third and final match will be played today in Dharamshala once again. View the full article
  4. With the kind of innings that Ishan Kishan played in the first T20I against the touring Sri Lankan side, his perception has taken an absolute U-turn in the eyes of the critics so much so that some of them have even started placing him ahead of the former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the shortest format of the game. Kishan, who was bought by the Mumbai Indians for a whopping Rs. 15.25 crore during the IPL 2022 mega auction, was absolutely brilliant as the opening batter for the Men in Blue. During his time in the middle, he shared 89 runs in just 56 deliveries. His century was missed out when he gave away a huge top-edge on a pull-short and was caught by Janith Liyanage at square leg. View this post on Instagram Nonetheless, Kishan’s work on the pitch was good enough to help skipper Rohit Sharma’s side make a hefty total of 199-runs which proved too much for the Lankan Lions to chase within 20 overs. Kishan was also awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ aware at the end of the evening for putting on a show with his blade. It was later revealed to the cricketing community that the massive innings played by the 23-year old made him the owner of a new world record. His 89-run knock is now the highest individual score by any Indian wicketkeeper batter in the shortest format of the game that’s played at an international level. Ishan Kishan 89 runs - highest individual score by an Indian wicket-keeper in T20I. — Johns. (@CricCrazyJohns) February 24, 2022 In the past and the present, Team India has produced some brilliant hitters who have also donned the role of the man behind the stumps. Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rishabh Pant are the leading names on the list in terms of heritage and their impact on the squad. Even KL Rahul, who acted as the squad’s glovesman a couple of years ago when Pant had suffered a head concussion, is an excellent player of this format. However, in terms of the number of haters each of these players have, Dhoni once again takes the top spot and it did not take his non-believers to simply start comparing his batting record with Kishan’s achievements from the first match against Sri Lanka. Dhobi has set such low standards in T2OI as wk batsman that everytime a wk batman comes to bat, a new record is created. — Alpha (@AlphaMaleKohli) February 24, 2022MS has 2 in 98. Surely an upgrade. — Eklavya (@IStanTheGOAT_18) February 24, 2022Dhoni would have easily scored a hundred if he opened against this kind of sl attack — Vikram (@Abhimanyu86156) February 24, 2022Best wicketkeeper batsman from jharkhand — Abhishek (@be_mewadi) February 24, 2022The narrative was that despite 98 international matches and batting in 85 of them, Dhoni’s highest score was just 56 runs, which was toppled by a huge margin by Kishan, who is just 8-matches old. While there are loads of issues with such comparisons, the biggest problem here is that while Kishan is a top-order batter and Dhoni was often played the role of the finisher. The southpaw generally opens the Indian batting order and therefore has more balls and greater freedom to take his time and go for bigger shots. Dhoni, on the other hand, never had the luxury of doing the same. His role was either to start swinging for the fences as he entered the ground to help his side chase down a total or to play a slow and sensible innings, act as the anchor that guides the innings in trouble and ensure to put enough runs on the board. 5. 23-year-old Ishan Kishan just played the sixth T20I match of his career when he kitted up against the West Indies squad at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. However, that did not stop him from receiving a massive amount of hate on social media, after he recorded the slowest innings played by an Indian in the history of the shortest format of the game while facing a minimum of 40 balls. Ishan Kishan's 35(42) is the slowest knock by an Indian in T20i's facing a minimum of 40 balls. — Heisenberg (@internetumpire) February 16, 2022 Despite the fact that Rohit Sharma’s side won the match rather comfortably with six wickets in hand and seven deliveries left for the Indian batters to waste, Twitter was buzzing with Men in Blue fans who were calling out Kishan for the slow pace at which he played as the opener. Obviously, a lot of this hate originates from the fact that Kishan ended up becoming the most expensive buy at the IPL 2022 mega auction when Mumbai Indians put Rs. 15.25 crore on the table to bring him back to the roster after not being able to retain him a couple of months ago. ISHAN KISHAN RETURNS TO MUMBAI INDIANS FOR INR 15.25 CRORE. #IPLAuction #CricketTwitter pic.twitter.com/mlqdt6n3G2 — Cricbuzz (@cricbuzz) February 12, 2022 However, a lot of comparisons between him and KL Rahul were also being made online. Both are top-order batters, known for their devastating batting and famous for playing high-scoring innings for the team in a hurry whenever they are required to. The only differentiating factor that played any major role, on the other hand, was the sizable difference in the time the two athletes have put in while playing for their country. While Rahul made his T20I debut back in 2016, Kishan broke into the senior team only in 2021. While Rahul has played a total of 52 innings in 56 T20I matches, Kishan has played just six. So, is the comparison between the two practical and sound? Indian cricket fans seem to have a split opinion on it. No disrespect to Ishan but imagine if it was KL Rahul playing on 22*(24). 6. Hardik Pandya might be out of the Indian team across all three formats but that hasn’t affected his brand value in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In fact, if reports are to be believed, his IPL stocks are going to touch new heights as the new Ahmedabad franchise have zeroed in on him to lead their squad in the upcoming edition of the IPL. View this post on InstagramAccording to a PTI report, the franchise, owned by US-based investor firm CVC Ventures Capital, has finally received its Letter of Intent from the BCCI and they have already approached Hardik and two other seasoned campaigners to form the core of their franchise. Apart from his impressive IPL record, the other factor that convinced the owners to give Hardik the leadership role was his local connection and his brand value in the Indian market. View this post on Instagram“Yes, Ahmedabad franchise has received their Letter of Intent. However, they have been doing their back-room work for some time as it's a huge process. As far as we know, Hardik has been zeroed in on as the captain of the franchise,” the PTI reported, quoting a senior IPL source. “Hardik with his local connect and being a proven IPL performer for Mumbai Indians for so long was an obvious choice as captain and premier player,” the report added. View this post on InstagramBesides Hardik, the report also stated that the franchise was in final talks with two other proven IPL stars Rashid Khan and Ishan Kishan to join their unit ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, which is likely to be held next month. “The franchise has almost finalised its deal with Afghan spin sensation Rashid Khan and dashing keeper-batter Ishan Kishan as their second and third picks from the draft. As of now, that's what is finalised unless there are changes at the last moment,” the PTI quoted the source as saying. View this post on InstagramHardik and Rashid have been proven match winners for their previous sides hence one expected that all the hullabaloo would be surrounding their inclusion in the side. But surprisingly not many fans were talking about the two senior players. Instead, they took keen interest in knowing about the signing of Ishan Kishan. It appeared as if all of a sudden Ishan had become the new fan-favourite. The Mumbai Indians supporters launched an earnest appeal on the micro-blogging site urging Ishan Kishan to not ditch them ahead of the mega auction. Ishan ko nhi please! — ꜱᴡᴇᴇᴛ_ꜱᴘᴀʀᴋʟᴇꜱ (@rohitian___45) January 10, 2022It will be good for Ishan's career if he stays with MI. We need Ishan Kishan at any cost — Mr. India (@NiteshV13) January 10, 2022If these reports are indeed true, the new franchise has done a terrific job and covered three important facets of the game with these signings. All the three players bring with themselves unique skill sets which cater to multiple needs of the franchise. A fast-bowling all-rounder is a rare commodity in India and if he performs to his potential, it’s safe to say that there is no one better than him in the country. View this post on InstagramIn addition to his leg-spin, another aspect that Rashid brings to the table is his incredible power-hitting which could come in handy, if need be. Generally, we don’t see a wicket-keeper batting in the top three and that is what sets Ishan apart from the rest. He can open the innings and also perform the role of a finisher lower down the order. 7. As the Mumbai Indians exited the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League having failed to make it to the playoffs this year, an old video has been going viral in which wicket-keeper and batter Ishan Kishan could be seen behaving like a nervous schoolboy in front of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Kishan, who was struggling to have himself a decent run in the initial days of the season, managed to return to his form with just a couple of matches remained for Rohit Sharma’s squad. View this post on InstagramFeeling confident and showing faith in himself, the southpaw was showing off his swag in the MI dressing room. After the match between MI and DC earlier this month, the 23-year old had his earbuds on, his bag over his shoulders, his phone in his hands, and sunglasses on his eyes. This is probably why it took him some time to realise that Tendulkar was also present in the room and that he was out of line for behaving like a child in front of the man who is known as ‘The God of Cricket’. View this post on InstagramHaving said that, once Kishan spotted the all-time great sitting in one corner of the dressing room, he quickly got rid of the bag, took off the earbuds and sunglasses almost as if he had seen his angry school principal. With a boyish smile, the Patna-born fixed his hair as well and walked towards Tendulkar, presumably to seek an apology. View this post on Instagram As the rest of the teammates witnessed the whole episode unfold, it was evident that Tendulkar was also enjoying being present in front of the young batter during such a hilarious moment. Without hesitation, the 48-year old offered a smile, making other MI teammates loosen up a bit. Vice-captain and West Indies great Kieron Pollard was also seen laughing at the whole scenario but banging on his knee hysterically. View this post on Instagram Kishan’s return to form could not have come at a more opportune time, especially with the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 about to start in the same Venue as IPL 2021. According to Kishan, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli had already promised him an opener’s position in the Indian squad. View the full article
  8. As Mumbai Indians won their match against SunRisers Hyderabad with a massive 42-run margin, their IPL 2021 campaign came to an early end after they failed to make it to the playoffs only for the fifth time in 14 seasons. However, if there was a silver lining for the five-time IPL champions, it was the confirmation of wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan’s return to form and faith in himself to be the run-getter that the fans have gotten used to over the past couple of years. View this post on Instagram Once again opening the batting order for Rohit Sharma’s squad on Friday, Kishan scored 11 4s and four 6s on his way to an 84-run innings in just 32 deliveries. With the lack of nervousness and no chip on his shoulders, Kishan looked a lot more comfortable at the top-order spot and swinging for the fences like there was no tomorrow. With a second consecutively solid performance coming off of Kishan’s bat on the pitches of the United Arab Emirates, this is a good sign for the young southpaw and his chances of showing up in the Playing XI for the Men in Blue in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 at the same venue. View this post on Instagram After receiving his ‘Player of the Match’ prize on Friday, Kishan gave some insight into Team India’s dressing room talks and the kind of conversations he has been having with skipper Virat Kohli and some of the other senior members of the side. “I had a good chat with Virat bhai, Jasprit bhai also helped me. Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya also supported me. Everyone supported me and said this is a learning stage for me and make sure that I should learn from my mistakes here and not repeat it during the T20 World Cup,” said Ishan after the match against SunRisers Hyderabad. View this post on Instagram “Virat bhai told me ‘You are selected as an opener, you just have to be prepared for that. But at the bigger level, you need to be prepared for everything,” he added. However, the cricketer’s fans warned the young lad about not depending too much on what Kohli has promised him with regards to his World Cup chances as an opening batter: If he's picked as an opener, he'll on the bench the entire tournament. — Saurav || सौरभ (@farzi_expert) October 8, 2021Backup opener. — Johns. 9. Sunil Gavaskar has once again created controversy after calling out Mumbai Indians batters Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan for not delivering to their true potential during the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League in the United Arab Emirates. Speaking on the Star Sports show Cricket Connected, Gavaskar expressed his dissent with the two hitters and the flop-show they have had at the pitch, especially in the second leg of the IPL season in the Middle East. View this post on Instagram “I think it looks to me like Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have just relaxed a little bit after getting the India cap," said the former Indian skipper. “They might not have, but some of the shots they are playing it looks like they are trying to play these big shots just because they are India players." In the nine matches that Ishan Kishan has played in this season, the southpaw has managed to score just 157 runs with an average of 19.62 runs. His strike rate of 106.08 has also seen a significant dip as compared to145.76 in IPL 2020. View this post on Instagram On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav has scored 235 runs in 13 matches in the 2021 season with an average of 18.07 and a strike rate of 129.83 against 145.01 in IPL 2020. “Sometimes what happens is, you gotta give yourself a little bit of time, and you have got to get your shot selection right… I think that is where they have missed this time around, where their shot selection has not been exactly correct, and that’s why they’ve got out cheaply," Gavaskar addressed the reigning champions’ biggest weak point this season. View this post on Instagram Another reason why Gavaskar suggests that the five-time IPL champions are struggling to live up to their reputation is because of Hardik Pandya who has not been at his 100% for a really long time now. His bowling, which made up for half of his all-round abilities, has not yet been tested this season and he hasn’t been particularly good with the bat apart from one match in the second leg. “Hardik Pandya, not bowling is a big blow, not just for Mumbai Indians, but for India as well, because he was taken in the team as an all-rounder. And if you are in the team, batting at No.6 or No.7, and you’re not able to bowl, then it makes it difficult for the captain. He doesn’t get the flexibility and option that is so required for somebody batting at No.6 or 7 like an all-rounder," said Gavaskar. View this post on Instagram However, not everyone seems to agree with the critical analysis of the former cricketer. Some have even called him out for trolling the cricketers like a teenager. Sunil Gavaskar always very quick to judgement. Why does he behaving like 16yr old troll? Thoda bad phase hai Needed just one inning. Aise bhi ek baar jo select hua usko bcci usko nikalegi nhi. 10. Ishan Kishan has done well for himself as an Indian cricketer who is rising through the ranks to make a space for himself in limited overs matches. From his wicket-keeping skills to his ability to smash long boundaries, he is turning out to be an excellent backup for Rishabh Pant and the Men in Blue. Earlier this week, Kishan got interviewed by the Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of his practice for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2021 season in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in which he spoke about how he selects a bat before training. Whether he marks a particular bat which he feels the most comfortable with: View this post on Instagram “No, I don’t keep my bats marked to know which I’ve to use. But yes, I always know which is the one I have to pick. My debut bat is not with me here. I’ve sent it to SG because I want three more bats just like that to play with. If you own a lot of bats too, you get confused. You don’t know which to play with. Now I’m confused as to which bat to play with!” “Let me just pick a new bat today, what say? All my bats have the text “Om Sai Nath” written on it because I believe in him. I ask them to put it on my bat because I like it, it gives me confidence.” As it turns out, a lot of people are angry with the fact that Kishan believes in Sai Baba and did not think twice before blabbering their hate for the southpaw all over social media: Pseudo god. With a strike rate of 82.95, he wasn’t having the best of the seasons in the shortest format of the game. However, with the league getting disrupted due to a bio bubble breach, Kishan, along with all the other cricketers, got a break to rework their strategies and brush up on their skills. Kishan also got the opportunity to play for the Indian side during their tour of Sri Lanka and struck a half-century on his ODI debut. View the full article
  11. Most of us have been friends with or have known someone who loves to boast about even the smallest of their achievements. Seems like Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan also belongs to this very group of individuals who don’t shy away from harping about anything they do. Ishan Kishan had a brilliant start to his One Day International career when he scored a brisk half-century in the first ODI against Sri Lanka but more than his maiden fifty, what caught everyone’s attention was the fact that he showed no nerves at all and cleared the fence on his very first ball. © Instagram Indian Cricket Team After the match, Kishan revealed that he had told his teammates in the dressing room that he would try to clear the ropes on his very first ball. His statement got mixed reactions from fans as some praised his confidence, while others made him aware of the thin line that exists between confidence and overconfidence. © Reuters “I knew that it was the right time to go for a six on the first ball. I already told you guys that no matter who the bowler was and no matter where he was going to bowl, I was going to send him for a six on the very first delivery,” Kishan told leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal on his famous ‘Chahal TV’ segment. View this post on Instagram It’s hard for any person to change their habit overnight and the young keeper was no different. Days after foretelling he would hit a six on the very first ball, the 23-year-old made headlines once again after a video of him from the second ODI went viral where he could be heard saying that he had already told others he would run him out. “Paaji bol ke run out maara hai bol ke. Puch lo,” Ishan told one of his teammates, during the last over of the Sri Lankan innings. pic.twitter.com/dDKgP9e8rk — pant shirt fc (@pant_fc) July 20, 2021 No matter how much he claims, these things are impossible to predict for anyone and Kishan was just lucky that things turned out well for him. The game is a great leveller and after his flamboyant knock in the first ODI, Kishan failed with the bat terribly, getting out for one run off four balls and nobody learned if he had told his teammates something similar before walking out to bat this time around as well. 12. Ishan Kishan could not have asked for a better way to celebrate his birthday than by making his One-Day International debut for the Indian cricket team and scoring a stunning half-century in a hurry to enjoy the victory. After a 21-year-old Prithvi Shaw gave a crackling start to the Indian batting order, smashing a ‘Player of the Match’ winning 43 off 24 deliveries, in came Kishan to join his newly appointed skipper Shikhar Dhawan in the middle. View this post on Instagram In a complete mood to enjoy his younger teammates taking an aggressive outlook towards the match from the beginning, Dhawan calmly stood at the non-striker’s end as Kishan got himself three to four metres out of the crease to hit a six on the first ever ODI ball that he was going to face. Displaying raw power, it was as if every shot that he was racing towards the boundary. There were a few strikes for which none of the Lankan players even cared to move, already knowing that they would be able to stop it. View this post on Instagram Reaching the 50-run mark in just 33 deliveries, Kishan became the second-fastest cricketer to score a half century in ODIs. He also became only the second batsman to score a 50 in his T20I and ODI debuts. While his batting performance was phenomenal, he said something after the match that is attracting a lot of attention and praise from his fans about the kind of mentality with which he stepped on to that field to bat. View this post on Instagram In a conversation with teammate Yuzvendra Chahal, Kishan revealed that he had already announced in the dressing room that he was going to attempt hitting a six on the very first delivery that he was going to face - and that’s exactly what he did. “I knew that it was the right time to go for a six on the first ball. I already told you guys that no matter who the bowler was and no matter where he was going to bowl, I was going to send him for a six on the very first delivery,” Kishan told Chahal on his famous ‘Chahal TV’ segment. 13. When a team wins a significant match thanks to a combined effort of the team, picking one ‘Man of the Match’ becomes exponentially difficult for the decision-makers. A similar situation arose at the end of the second T20I between India and England when the hosting batsmen put on a show during the latter half of the match and snatched away a dominating win away from Eoin Morgan’s side. View this post on Instagram Spearheaded by T20I debutant Ishan Kishan and India captain Virat Kohli, the Men in Blue successfully chased down a decent 164-run England total with seven wickets and 13 balls to spare. Stepping onto the pitch for the very first time for the shortest format of the game, Kishan played with nerves of steel as he smashed five 4s and four 6s on his way to getting a half-century in his debut. View this post on Instagram What is more important than his impressive numbers was the predicament from which Kishan managed to pull out his team. After watching his opening batting partner KL Rahul drop off on a duck after facing six deliveries, Kishan took it upon himself to do all the major scoring while the skipper played second-fiddle during their partnership. While scoring at an astonishing strike rate of 175, it was safe to say that the point at which he left the pitch after getting trapped for an LBW by Adil Rashid in the 10th over of the innings, the rest of the batting order had a smooth-sailing to the end. View this post on Instagram However, Kohli, the highest scorer of the entire match, had also made a strong case for himself as the best player on the day. He showed the willingness to build a strong partnership with whoever he found on the other side of the pitch, kept himself safe while allowing his partners to go for bigger shots, and choosing his shots carefully too. One of the biggest reasons for his unbeaten 73-run stint in the middle was also the kind of struggles he was going through ahead until the second T20 (with three ducks in the last five innings). View this post on Instagram But at the end of the day, it was decided that it was would be Ishan Kishan who would be recognised as the ‘Man of the Match’. And while Kohli would not have cared more about this achievement and was rather delighted to see the young blood get recognised, fans of Virat Kohli and surprisingly MS Dhoni got into a Twitter battle: Virat, the man of the match, has called Ishan Kishan on stage to share the limelight. 14. The second of five T20I matches between India and England at the Narendra Modi Stadium proved that if there is a team in the world that has the capabilities of bouncing back from a devastating defeat, it is the Virat Kohli-led squad. And when the team has debutants playing like the way a 22-year-old Ishan Kishan did, the job becomes even easier. View this post on InstagramComing to bat at the top of the order with KL Rahul, Kishan quickly saw his partner lose his wicket and walk about to the dressing room. However, instead of getting under pressure, the south-paw started playing like the way he usually does for Mumbai Indians - with utmost aggression. In a casual interview with teammate Yuzvendra Chahal, Kishan opened up about his debut half-ton and how his captain encouraged him to allow himself a proper celebration after the feat: View this post on Instagram Unshaken and without a crumble of doubt in his mind, the big-hitter scored his first half-century in style when he struck a maximum to reach the 50-run mark but wasn’t too sure of his score. So it took him some time to realise that he had scored a 50 and that it was time for him to acknowledge the fans who were cheering for him. With humble and shy nature, the debut-man raised his bat coyly before going back to the pitch. View this post on InstagramThis is when Kohli approached him, and said “top innings” as he congratulated him in person. Kohli also motivated him to enjoy this achievement properly. “Oye! Charo taraf ghoomke bat dikha. Sabko bat dikha! Pehla match hai tera, bohot achhe (Hey! Show your bat in all directions. Show it to everyone! It is your first match, very good),” Kohli told Kishan. View this post on Instagram That is when the young batsman got over his shyness and truly appreciated the moment. If there had to be a criticism of Kishan’s innings it would be the kind of shot he was trying to go for when he ended up throwing his wicket. 15. The Board of Control for Cricket in India or the BCCI is known for making headlines with their fitness tests on more than one occasion and has not failed to seek the fans’ attention this time around as well. According to a report by Times of India, the Indian cricket board introduced a new 2-km run fitness test and which led to many known cricketers unable to meet the passing criteria. Six cricketers fail BCCI’s new 2km-run fitness test https://t.co/hN0sP59Nad — TOI Sports News (@TOISportsNews) February 12, 2021 The report confirms that six Indian cricketers namely wicket-keeper batsmen Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan, Rahul Tewatia, Nitish Rana and Siddarth Kaul and Jaydev Unadkat ended up failing the test which was introduced at Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy (NCA) which is currently under the administration of Indian batting legend, Rahul Dravid. “Since this is a new type of a fitness test, they will all get a second chance to clear it at a fresh date, after some gap. However, if they fail to clear it, then it puts their selection for the forthcoming white-ball series comprising five T20Is and three ODIs against England at home in doubt,” a source told TOI confirming that those who couldn’t clear the test in the first try will get another opportunity, a common process while conducting fitness tests. View this post on Instagram “A few fitness tests were conducted for around 20-odd cricketers who are in the reckoning for the limited-overs series against England at home, and for the T20 World Cup in India later this year. Six of the players failed to clear these tests. Some players barely managed to complete the run,” the source added. 16. It may come as a surprise to a lot of the Indian cricket fans that ever since the Twenty20 format of the game was introduced in 2005, none of the Indian wicket-keeping-captains were able to score a century in any of the List A leagues or tournaments. That was until the 20-year-old captain of the Jharkhand team decided to make history in a match against Jammu & Kashmir in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament. While J&K put up a below-average score of 168 runs, Kishan went on to score an impressive 100 in just 55 balls to successfully chase it down and win the match with ease. During his bombastic innings, the batsman sent the ball for eight boundaries and seven sixes. Kishan's impressive batting performance during the Syed Mushtaq Ali follows a rather unexpected century at the hands of India's second 'Wall' in Saurashtra's Cheteshwar Pujara who is known for his slow but steady way of playing the game, especially in the Test format of the game. Pujara's ton came in a surprisingly few number of balls (61) after his father had advised him move forwards or backwards across the crease to utilise the line better, a day before. Another youngster in Shreyas Iyer played a brilliant innings for Mumbai in a match against Sikkim, during which he broke India's sledging mascot Rishabh Pant's record for the highest individual score by an Indian batsmen in the T20, as he scored an extraordinary 147 in just 55 balls. 17. Over the years, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has established himself as one of the most popular sportspersons in India. His leadership skills allowed India to scale new heights in international cricket, while his explosive batting saw him being labelled as one of the best finishers in limited-overs cricket. But, times have changed. Today, Dhoni is no longer the captain of the Indian cricket team. He called time on his Test career and his finishing abilities with the willow are not as convincing as they used to be. More importantly, his age is also catching up on him. But, despite all those things, when it comes to the glovework behind the stumps, no one can possibly argue that this tireless workhorse is still the best in business. Not really your typical wicket-keeper, Dhoni has carved his own niche with a unique, unorthodox style of keeping the stumps. With street-smart skills taking over technique, the Jharkhand cricketer has pulled off some of the most insane dismissals on the cricket field. From his lightning-quick stumpings to the famous 'no-look run-out', Dhoni has set new standards for the wicket-keepers around the globe. 18. Two years ago, the Indian cricket team romped their way to the 2016 ICC Under-19 World Cup final after winning all of their games in the tournament. However, India's dream of clinching their fourth U-19 title was quashed by a rampant West Indies brigade that ran away with the coveted trophy with a five-wicket win in the final. Though India missed out on the opportunity to record the most number of U-19 World Cup wins, the tournament, nonetheless, gave the cricket-crazy nation new heroes and some very exciting talent, poised to serve the national team in near future. India's wait for their fourth U-19 title was eventually fulfilled by the Prithvi Shaw-led brigade that defeated Australia to win the tournament earlier this year. But, it's India U-19 class of 2016 that's making all sorts of noise in Indian cricket these days. The likes of Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, Wasington Sundar and Sarfaraz Khan have proved their mettle and continue to improve their skills in a bid to cement their respective spots in India's senior team. BCCI Their growth over the years, highlighting how far these youngsters have come, was thoroughly visible during the ninth match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season when Mumbai Indians (MI) locked horns with Delhi Daredevils (DD). It all began with Ishan Kishan, captain of India's U-19 team in the 2016 World Cup, whose artistry with the willow elated Mumbai fans. Coming out to bat at the No. 3 slot, Ishan clubbed the ball like a pro during his blistering knock of 44 runs that came in double-quick time - just 23 balls. The explosive left-hander, who is also keeping wickets for Mumbai this season, slammed five fours and two sixes while scoring at a strike-rate of over 190. Thanks to his blitzkrieg, Mumbai posted a mammoth total of 194 runs. BCCI But, if Ishan impressed everyone in the first half, his 2016 U-19 World Cup teammate Pant, too, had plans of his own to steal his old skipper's thunder. Chasing 194 runs, Delhi had to begin strongly in hopes of keeping their run-chase in check. But, after a steady 50-run opening partnership, Delhi lost their captain Gautam Gambhir in the sixth over. With Delhi looking to rebuild their innings, Pant walked out in the middle to partner Jason Roy. After beginning his innings with caution, Pant broke the shackles with his wide array of strokes, taking Mumbai bowlers to the cleaners. The left-hander smashed a brilliant 25-ball 47 including six fours and two sixes. BCCI Keeping Delhi in the hunt, Pant also stitched a pivotal partnership of 69 runs with Roy for the second wicket. He was finally dismissed in the 12th over after Kieron Pollard's brilliance in the field. Despite his dismissal, Delhi clinched their first win of the season - courtesy Roy's unbeaten 91. While Ishan's brilliant knock went in vain as Pant had the last laugh with his explosive innings, the ultimate winner in this duel was undoubtedly the India U-19 class of 2016. These guys will improve further, but watching them go from strength to strength with every game makes us believe that the future of Indian cricket is in safe hands. Maybe it wasn't just the comics that made us love this Marvel character, but more than that, it was Robert Downey Jr who totally nailed the role with his spot-on sense of humor, action, and dialogues. © Marvel And now the makers have picked Rajesh to voice him in the Hindi version. 20. Last year, the box office was primarily ruled by Marathi movie ‘Sairat' and if the song ‘Zingaat' still rings in your head, then you will know that this movie's popularity is no joke. Well, fast forward to the present time and ‘Sairat' is still making headlines, this time for its Bollywood remake starring Sridevi's daughter Jhanvi Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor's brother Ishan Khattar. Reports of the movie being remade in Hindi had been doing rounds for quite some time and will be produced by Karan Johar, under his banner Dharma Productions. © Zee Studios Well, in recent developments, according to a report in DNA, the shooting of the movie will begin in November this year and Jhanvi has already started preparing for the role, attending dance and acting classes. Time and again people have blown the trumpet of Nepotism in the negative direction, but that does not deter the star kids from showing what they are capable of. Apart from Jhanvi, Saif Ali Khan's daughter Sara Ali Khan too is having her dream debut opposite Sushant Singh Rajput in Abhishek Kapoor's directorial venture ‘Kedarnath', shooting of which started last week. © Instagram/Jhanvi Kapoor Nagraj Manjule's film ‘Sairat' has already set the benchmark really high and the credit entirely goes to the exceptional acting of the cast and their interesting take on honour killing and caste system. While actors Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar nailed it in the original, it will be interesting to see how Jhanvi and Ishaan stand out in this film. The film talks about two college sweethearts who belong to different castes and the struggles they go through when their relationship falls prey to the stringent practices of casteism. Jhanvi will be debuting with this remake, Ishaan is a film old as he has already completed shooting for Majid Majidi's ‘Beyond The Clouds'. This film is being directed by Shashank Khaitan, who is known for making ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania'.
