  1. The curious case of activist Disha Ravi's arrest has unleashed a string of questions in connection with Greta Thunberg's toolkit case. Soon after her arrest, another name, Nikita Jacob, has come up in an investigation in the case involving an online document, or a "toolkit", shared by teen climate campaigner Greta Thunberg in support of the farmers' protests. © facebook, twitter The Delhi Police has issued a non-bailable warrant against an activist, identified as Nikita Jacob, in connection with its probe in the Greta Thunberg toolkit case. This comes hours after 21-year-old climate activist Disha Ravi was remanded to five-day Delhi Police Special Cell custody. Disha was arrested on Saturday for her alleged involvement in sharing the 'toolkit' related to the farmer's protest on social media. Who Is Nikita Jacob Jacob, 30, is a lawyer by profession who holds experience of seven years. According to reports, she claims to have been into environmental activism through an NGO but has never been associated with any political party. Graduated from ILS Law College in Pune, Nikita handles only civil cases. She has worked under the chamber of senior advocate Girish Godbole. Latest Developments According to the reports, Jacob has filed a plea in which she has sought transit anticipatory bail for a period of four weeks so that she can approach the court concerned in Delhi to apply for pre-arrest bail. © Reuters Delhi Police sources said she went underground after a Special Cell team went to search her house on February 11. A report in NDTV suggested that arrested 22-year-old activist Disha Ravi, and the two others (including Nikita Jacob and Shantanu Muluk) held a Zoom meeting before Republic Day to plan a social media buzz on the farmers' tractor rally, the police said on Monday. In her request for protection from arrest, the now allegedly “absconding” Nikita has asked for a copy of the FIR and has alleged that Delhi Police came to her Mumbai home last Thursday with a search warrant and seized gadgets and documents. © Reuters Besides, Muluk too has approached the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court with a request for protection from arrest. Delhi police has issued non-bailable warrants against both of them. Moreover, Jacob also alleged that her personal information is being spread on social media through trolls and bots. The Bombay High Court will today hear Nikita Jacob’s request for protection from arrest for four weeks. All three (Disha, Nikita and Shantanu) prepared the Google document and shared it, Delhi Police said, as per the reports. View the full article
  2. 2018 ended on a horrible note for the former Indian cricketer Jacob Martin, who battled against time in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in critical condition following a road accident on 28th December and was put on a ventilator as his family felt severely short of money to continue with the expensive treatment. At that time, the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) sanctioned an aide worth Rs 5 Lakh out of the Benevolent Fund whilst former skipper Sourav Ganguly also showed his support. However, the greatest gesture was shown by cricketer Krunal Pandya who gave a blank cheque to Sanjay Patel, the former secretary of the BCCI and the Baroda Cricket Association while reportedly saying, “Sir, please fill up whatever is needed, but nothing less than Rs 1 lakh". With the good wishes of the fans of the cricketer and those of Indian cricket, Martin was successfully discharged from the ICU after spending almost a month under 'critical' status. Having said that, a pair of ruptured lungs and a failing liver takes a lot of care and treatment to get over. When the injuries are so grave, the rate at which the cash flows can reduce the wealthiest of families to mediocrity. In such testing times, former Indian opener KL Rahul emerged as the knight in the shining armour who reportedly made the biggest individual donation to the Martin family. Jacob's wife while having confirmed receiving the funds from the batsman refused to reveal the exact amount on the request of Rahul himself but Mumbai Mirror confirms that Rahul's hefty donation was the greatest made by anyone. “A big thanks to Rahul and everyone who has helped,” an emotional Jacob Martin expressed to the newspaper as the cricketers of the past and the present have come together to stand by the ailing athlete. Ever since India's Test series against Australia, KL Rahul has found himself to be off in his form before getting suspended for being a part of a controversial episode of a chat show alongside teammate and best-buddy Hardik Pandya. It can be excruciatingly difficult for an athlete to life through a stint of bad form with the public constantly hating on them for their deeds beyond the field and for Rahul to show up for a cause so noble right now, says a million things about how good the cricketer is at heart.
  3. Being a part of a family can have different meanings to different people. When you are living the life of a soldier, the unit is your family. Similarly, when you live the life of a sportsperson who is playing for the nation, then your team becomes your family. And that remains even after you retire from the sport. Jacob Martin, a former Indian cricketer from Baroda witnessed the support of his extended cricket family when he required money for his operation. Martin suffered a major accident earlier in January that caused severe damages to his lungs and liver. Now, in a positive development, the 46-year-old has been released from the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) after spending almost a month there. Moreover, the Vadodara star is now out of danger and has also resumed speaking. © Twitter Earlier, several names from the cricket fraternity had come out to help Martin, who has played 10 One-Day Internationals matches for India and has also guided Baroda to a Ranji Trophy victory. Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly was one of the first cricketers to come to Martin's aid and transferred funds into his bank account. Later, Krunal Pandya, the Mumbai Indians lad who is currently playing in the India A squad, wrote out a blank cheque, which said: "Sir, please fill up whatever is needed, but nothing less than Rs 1 lakh." Other than the BCCI, the BCA and other cricketers such as Munaf Patel, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan and even Kiran More came forward to help the Ex-Baroda captain. However, dark clouds still hover over Martin's family, as his wife Khyati has mentioned that despite receiving financial assistance from several sources, she would still need more money in the coming days. Till now, Martin received Rs 16 lakh out of which almost Rs.15 lakh has been spent so far in hospital expenses. It's heartwarming to see the cricket fraternity coming forward to help one of their own, and we hope that contributions keep coming in so that Jacob Martin can get back on his feet soon.
  4. Earlier this month, Hardik Pandya stirred up a massive storm after his objectionable remarks on the popular chat show 'Koffee With Karan' attracted a lot of criticism. He was sexist, misogynist in his comments while objectifying women on national television. The nation-wide uproar also saw Hardik getting suspended, pending an inquiry into the controversy. But, while the questionable demeanour of Hardik made him 'Public Enemy No. 1', the latest gesture by his elder brother Krunal has struck a chord with cricket fans across the country. Former Indian cricketer Jacob Martin continues to battle for his life in a Vadodara hospital. Martin sustained life-threatening injuries following a road accident on 28th December. Currently, on a ventilator, Martin has found himself in immediate need for financial support in a bid to recuperate with his injuries to lungs and liver. © Twitter While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sanctioned an amount of Rs 5 lakh from the Benevolent Fund, Sourav Ganguly, too, stepped up to help the former Indian player. And now, Krunal has joined the drive to help Martin with financial aid. In what was arguably one of the sweetest gestures you'd see, Krunal has handed a blank cheque to Sanjay Patel, former secretary of the BCCI and the Baroda Cricket Association. He reportedly told Patel: "Sir, please fill up whatever is needed, but nothing less than Rs 1 lakh". Krunal's heartfelt gesture saw the cricket fans singing his praise on the social media. Ironically, the fans who were busy bashing the younger Pandya not a long time ago were seen praising the elder one for his good deed. There are good people still in this World. Well done, Krunal Pandya :) pic.twitter.com/uUyyNH2g6X — Abhishek Barthur (@imabhi27) January 22, 2019 Just being the richest athlete like @imVkohli is not important being rich by heart just like krunal Pandya is wat matters — Sameer (@therealsameer_) January 22, 2019 Massive respect @krunalpandya24 ðð #KrunalPandya #HardikPandya #JacobMartin #ICCAwards2018 pic.twitter.com/p4hBsIiFNg — Premnath kp (@PremnathPK2) January 22, 2019 An Incredible gesture from this Great Man @krunalpandya24 to come out and help Jacob Martin.
