  1. The England Cricket Board unveiled their new T20I kit on Friday (April 8) and it instantly became a hit among fans on social media. However, more than applauding ECB and their kit sponsors for pulling off a great design and colour combination, cricket fans were busy having a go at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The BCCI remains under the scanner almost all the time and their decisions often generate lots of reaction from fans. When the Indian board replaced their kit sponsors from Oppo to Byju's, the placement of the logo on the jersey became a huge talking point and the BCCI received a lot of flak on Twitter. UPDATE: BYJU'S to be new #TeamIndia sponsor More details - https://t.co/OXgn45kYrJ pic.twitter.com/Xmxt2VAZ5q — BCCI (@BCCI) July 25, 2019 Even during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), where two new teams made their debut, the jerseys were in the spotlight as every team revealed their new designs and fans were left disappointed. As soon as the ECB revealed the jersey, fans asked the BCCI to take note and come up with something similar the next time they decide to replace Team India's jersey. We’d love to take the trophy home and we’ll be ready to perform at our best thanks to the new Castore IT20 kit,” Buttler was quoted as saying by ECB. Introducing our new Castore IT20 kit! 3. The road to their first Indian Premier League season has not been the most joyous one for Lucknow Supergiants. First, they were trolled by Indian cricket fans for making an unnecessarily huge marketing campaign around revealing the team’s name, then they were criticised for the mundane name that was given to the franchise and now that they have officially launched their jersey (which got leaked over a couple of weeks ago), the fans are on their case like white on rice. View this post on Instagram The Supergiants had revealed their jersey for IPL 2022 earlier this week while also compositing and releasing their team anthem featuring rapper and singer Badshah but fans were already disappointed with the way it looked and the colours that were used to make it authentic. Many went on to say that the practice jersey that they had shown its teammates wearing in the nets looked far better than the official ones and that all the “technology” that went into making the jersey material did very little to nothing in terms of making it look like a uniform. View this post on Instagram However, almost all the pictures and graphics that were shared by the Supergiants’ social media platform on the day of the launch were edited or shot under studio lights. So when a day after the launch, cricketers Avesh Khan and Shahbaz Nadeem were clicked wearing their full kits in natural lights, fans’ frustration with the jersey turned into an amusement and the people started trolling them for “taking design inspiration from nightgowns”. However, when literally thousands of people are trolling and agreeing to the fact that the jersey definitely looks like a cheap night suit, even the people who designed it must give in and accept the fact that they messed up. Back when the first season of the IPL was introduced in 2008, the jersey designs were a lot simpler but even those ancient designs have a better chance of being picked up by a cricket fan as opposed to this ugly-looking kit. Seriously guys, how was this designed even authorised to go into mass production? View the full article
  4. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is less than two weeks away and all the teams have finalised their skippers, with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) being the latest to announce Faf du Plessis as their captain for the upcoming season. Apart from captaincy, another thing that has been catching a lot of attention on social media is the teams' jerseys. Unlike the previous season, this year, a total of 10 teams will participate in IPL. Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants are the two new franchises that will be debuting in the 15th edition of the tournament. We ‘launched’ our jersey last night, quite literally! 5. The biggest cricket carnival on the planet, IPL 2022, will start in just over two weeks from now. With the addition of two new franchises, the level of competition in the cash-rich league is expected to get even more riveting. Players who are not on their national duties have already started their preparations for the high-octane event. In the build-up to the event, the biggest excitement among the fans is about the outfits of two new franchises – Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). View this post on Instagram Both the teams are yet to reveal their jersey officially but fans already know what colour the LSG players will be wearing, thanks to a video of Bollywood rapper Badshah. Talking about the jersey, the outfit has been designed keeping in mind the team’s logo and has a few orange and orange and green patterns around the shoulders and the sides. The LSG fans who had been waiting for the jersey launch were not too pleased with the colour choice and the overall design. Disappointed with the leaked outfit, a user questioned the designer’s creativity and said that the design was similar to what the cast of famous TV show ‘Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasma’ wore in their ‘Gokuldham Premier League’. The owners had to shell out a whopping Rs 7,090 crores to win the rights for the team when the two new teams were auctioned by the BCCI last year. Fans might have varied opinions about their jersey colour but one thing that nobody can reject is that the management has assembled a solid group of players in their squad. View this post on Instagram With the presence of players like KL Rahul, Quinton de Kock, Jason Holder, Manish Pandey, Krunal Pandya, and others, the franchise is expected to make a mark in its inaugural season. And if the players manage to do that, everything else will be forgotten. View the full article

  8. Whenever the captain of the Indian Test cricket team, Virat Kohli steps onto the field, his fans and critics go through every minute detail about him. From the way he walks to the colour of his undershirt, literally everything about the Indian batter remains up for debate practically all the time. During the first inning of the third and final Test match between India and South Africa, the skipper returned to the Playing XI after being ruled out of the second Test due to a severe upper back spasm and the Men in Blue ended up losing the match. He’s wearing a red shirt underneath. pic.twitter.com/JIlm5KmSZ9 — (@Kourageous7) January 11, 2022 As soon as fans saw him on the pitch, they noticed that the man was wearing a red-coloured t-shirt inside his white Test cricket jersey. It did not take them long to turn on their inner detectives and start speculating the various reasons why Kohli would have worn it in the first place. From calling it his lucky shirt to speculating that it might be a Royal Challengers Bangalore jersey, fans were putting in way too much of their time talking about the shirt’s colour. There were even people speculating if Kohli wore it because red is the favourite colour of his daughter, Vamika, who turned one year old on Tuesday. Hitting 12 fours and a six during his time in the middle, he took 158 deliveries to hit his half-century in Cape Town, making it his second-slowest half-ton in the longest format of the game. After delivering 201 balls, the South African bowlers finally managed to dismiss Kohli for a well-earned 79-run inning which enabled the Indian side to put up a total of 223 on the board. Other than Kohli, no other Indian player managed to score more than 43 runs (Cheteshwar Pujara). So, maybe the red shirt is lucky after all and the captain mustn’t remove it for the four days left. Maybe it will help the Indian side pick their first Test series win in South Africa as well? Well, let's wait and watch. View the full article

  12. Shahid Kapoor has been paired opposite Mrunal Thakur for his upcoming movie Jersey. We have seen both the actors on the big screen and have an idea that they believe in living their characters to an extent that it starts looking real to the viewers. If you remember how a slap scene in Shahid's previous movie Kabir Singh became a controversial subject and people bashed the actor for promoting toxic masculinity, Jersey too has one scene like that but there's a twist. Instead of Shahid slapping the lady, it's Mrunal who's slapping him. There's no outrage on this one per se as it was shown in the trailer. Here's the trailer: But, there's a story that Mrunal narrated about this particular scene. She revealed that she was quite nervous but it was Shahid who calmed her down and asked her to slap him harder for it to look convincing. Talking to News18, Mrunal said “I was really scared. I didn’t want to spoil his performance. The crescendo of the scene is something else. I was tense about kahin zyada na lag jaye (I shouldn’t overdo the output). But Shahid helped me in that scene a lot, by egging me on, ‘You need to slap me harder.’ We did a lot of retakes and the slap is real. We performed the scene in the initial four or five days of shooting. I was trying to find the rhythm in my character and this scene really got me going." View this post on Instagram Jersey has also been in news because it was earlier scheduled to release on December 31 this year but it has been postponed. A statement released by the makers said that the release has been postponed due to the “new Covid guidelines.” The statement read, “In view of the current circumstances and new Covid guidelines we have decided to postpone the theatrical release of our film Jersey. We have received immense love from you all so far and want to thank you all for everything. Until then everyone please stay safe and healthy, and wishing you all the best for the new year ahead!! Team Jersey!!” View this post on Instagram In an earlier conversation with Indian Express, Shahid had spoken about the audience returning to the theaters. He said, “I think if the film is good, it finds its place. In the last two years, because of the pandemic, theaters were shut for so long, and there are many films waiting to be released. There were many people who did not release their films fearing that many movies were coming out together. But I believe that if you believe in your product and if you are passionate and if you have the conviction in you, then you’ll know that the audience has one week to decide how they like my film. It doesn’t matter what film comes before us or after us, every film has its own destiny.” The film is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who was also the director of the Telugu version of the film. It is a story of a former cricket player who tries to revive his career but fails miserably. It is about a man who aspires to get back into sports in his mid-40s but faces several complications. 18. With just a couple of days to go for the T20 World Cup 2021 to begin, the Indian cricket team revealed their fan jersey for the tournament called the ‘Billion Cheers Jersey’. It is designed to pay homage to the die-hard fans of the team and their cheering has been converted into noise frequency patterns running diagonally on the t-shirt. It looks decent and the boys look pretty good wearing them as well. However, it is the poster in which Indian cricketers KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah are seen featuring, that has seemingly created a big stir among the fans. View this post on Instagram Twitter user @NotMK45 recently shared the same picture from his social media handle suggesting that the team vice-captain Rohit Sharma was pointing towards ‘India’ printed on the jersey, while the rest of his teammates were pointing towards the BCCI logo, implying that Sharma plays for the country while others play for their cricket board which pays them big money. Everyone pointing to BCCI Logo meanwhile Rohit Sharma pointing towards India!#MyCaptain pic.twitter.com/lHS4ScLGml — MK (@NotMK45) October 13, 2021 As petty as that sounds, the message seems to have triggered a lot of people for a lot of reasons, all of whom flocked to the Twitter post to vent their frustrations. First, there are people who backed up this claim and praised ‘Hitman’ for always putting his nation ahead of everything else, including money. They called him “the most genuine player of this current era” and asked others to learn from him. Coz he stands and plays for our nation.. He is most genuine player of this current era.. some people still have opportunity to learn from him — Yogeshwar Patil (@yogeshwarp27) October 13, 2021Yes. Agree. He always keep India first. Virat, Jaddu, and Boom are pointing towards BCCI and Rohit is pointing towards Byju's. What are you looking at Andhbhakts? And this doesn't mean he plays for money, he meant to point at BCCI but isn't. — Suhit Data (@ImSDataa) October 13, 2021Not like that, he may be saying to youth study well and play well. — Kola Naresh (@KolaNar07754757) October 14, 2021Lmao he is pointing towards BYJu's... — Say My Name (@ShreeHanuman2) October 13, 2021Byjus hai woh — Dhruv (@Dhruv301203) October 13, 2021And finally, there was a whole lot of people who were simply curious about whatever it was that KL Rahul was doing with his jersey while standing in one corner grabbing it with his fist: Rahul checking kapde ki quality — Sahilism.||RO Rish STAN 45*17 (@hitman_sahil) October 13, 2021By this logic, Rahul Ko bhook lag raha hai aur neend bhi aa raha hai — baby driver is perspicacious (@potatopuhtato) October 13, 2021Meanwhile KL Trying to get Rid of It — Cric Art (@cric_art_) October 13, 2021And KL Rahul was trying to tie his nada and someone immediately clicked his pic... — KABIR SADH REQUESTS YOU TO WEAR A MASK (@KabirSadh) October 13, 2021The argument only goes on to show the kind of impact the game of cricket has on its fans who will stop at nothing to talk about their favourite cricketers and why they are so well-regarded in this country. With just over a week left for the start of the T20 World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) launched the new jersey that Team India will be wearing in the upcoming tournament. While the previous jersey was inspired by India’s older kit during the 90s, this brand new jersey, as per official kit partner MPL Sports, is inspired by the billion cheers of the fans hence the name -- “Billion Cheers Jersey”. Presenting the Billion Cheers Jersey! The patterns on the jersey are inspired by the billion cheers of the fans. Get ready to #ShowYourGame @mpl_sport. While the trousers are mainly plain apart from two orange lines near the pockets on either side, the entire creativity has been done on the t-shirt, which has evoked mixed reactions from the fans. Look for yourself and decide what you make of the design. This isn't just a Team, they are the pride of India. This isn't just a jersey, it is the blessing of a billion fans. It carries their chants and cheers from iconic past matches, transformed into unique soundwave patterns,” MPL Sports said in a press release. In terms of inscriptions, ‘India’ is written in the centre of the t-shirt and above that is the main sponsor’s logo. The kit sponsor’s logo is on the right side of the chest while the left side has BCCI’s logo with three stars on top, indicating India’s three World Cup trophies. © MPL Sports India won its first-ever ODI World Cup in 1983 under the leadership of legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev. In 2017, MS Dhoni guided a young Indian team to the inaugural World T20 titles and four years later, ended India’s 28-year-old drought when he lifted the country’s second ODI World Cup title in 2011. The fans who were used to seeing the Indian cricket team play in sky blue jerseys found it hard to come to grasp with the last two jerseys where the shades were on the darker side. But there were also people who felt this colour was more vibrant and made players look more stylish. The Billion Cheers Jersey - The pattern on the jersey is inspired by the cheers of a billion fans. In terms of competition, India have been pooled alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, Afghanistan, New Zealand and two other qualifiers. 20. The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is scheduled to start on October 17, 2021, which is less than a week away. This means that while most of the participating teams have already revealed their official jerseys, teams like India and Pakistan will be doing so soon. However, this also means that eagle-eyed paparazzi and fans were on the lookout for any means to leak the pictures of the official jerseys before they are launched by the respective cricket boards. PAKISTAN JERSEY FOR WT20 !!? RATE THIS ONE pic.twitter.com/ip2s5VkjAa — M S C (@_friendlycheema) October 6, 2021 For the Pakistani squad, the jersey allegedly leaked a couple of days ago when skipper Babar Azam was pictured wearing the kit, standing in broad daylight. The pictures were starting to spark loads of debates around the mundane and boring design. However, soon enough, the discussion changed to something a lot more important. The logo patch printed on the top right corner of the jersey shows the United Arab Emirates as the hosts of the tournament and not India. Australia ,Scotland ,and PAKISTAN JERSEY for T20WC , the most interesting thing is that PAKISTAN Writes ‘UAE 2021’ Instead of ‘india 2021’ on T20 world cup JERSEY HAHAHAH i like PAKISTAN ZINDABAD #T20WorldCup2021 pic.twitter.com/aBnID9Ixm3 — Mariam PAKISTANI (@Mariam_Jamali) October 7, 2021 While all the other countries that have released their jerseys, recognise India as the hosts and have printed so on their kits, the Pakistani jersey remains the only one so far that refuses to follow this tradition. The tournament was originally supposed to take place in India but due to the prevalent COVID-19 risks in the country, the venue was switched to the United Arab Emirates. Having said that, it is the Indian cricket board that is hosting the mega event, and therefore, all teams must add India’s name on their jerseys. Cricket fans were not happy to see this anomaly and expressed their rage on Twitter: It's a rule to put the name of WC hosting country on the jersey. Every team put India's name as India is the official host for T20 WC 2021 except Pakistan, they put UAE instead. Virat Kohli and the Men in Blue are also set to reveal their kits on October 13, 2021 (Wednesday) as their first match of the tournament will take place against Pakistan on October 24, in the Super 12 round.
