  1. After months of delay, the 66th National Film Awards finally took place on Monday at New Delhi's Vigyan Bhawan, where people from Bollywood fraternity were awarded for their respective contribution. From Vicky Kaushal, Ayushmann Khurrana to Akshay Kumar; many big names from Bollywood graced the award show. Usually, the President honours the winners every year, but this time he will reportedly host a high tea for the winners while Vice President Venkaiah Naidu will honour them. The feature #films this year are as much about emotions as they are about intelligence In the bouquet of films, we have films that break stereotypes and attack superstitions sensitively We see through the maker's imagination how orthodox traditions give way to modern solutions pic.twitter.com/W06Yfi9sy6 — Vice President of India (@VPSecretariat) December 23, 2019 To begin with, let's talk about the man 'jo rishte me sabke baap lagte hai', the Shahenshah of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan who was conferred with this year's Dadasaheb Phalke award. However, the 77-year-old actor could not attend the event since he was unwell so he will be honoured by the President at the high tea hosted for all winners. It is expected to take place on December 29. According to reports, Vice President Naidu paid tribute to Bachchan by calling him "an institution by himself". I extend my hearty congratulations to all the National Award winners This award is a recognition of your commitment to excellence & your hard work I also convey my heartiest congratulations to Shri Amitabh Bachchan for winning the prestigious #DadaSahebPhalkeAward @SrBachchan pic.twitter.com/Zw35vttRtg — Vice President of India (@VPSecretariat) December 23, 2019 Veteran actress Surekha Sikri received a national award for “Best Supporting Actress” for her performance in Badhaai Ho. Her portrayal as a matriarch deserves every award and praise and the fact that she has touched millions of hearts, was evident in the loud cheers and applause for her that refused to die down. Sikri, who came to receive her award in a wheelchair was welcomed by a standing ovation and cheers that probably filled the entire hall. 2. They say beauty is in the eyes of the beholder but truth be told, the eyes of the beholder are often cast in centuries-old, regressive and stunted standards of beauty. The journey to survive it and create an identity despite it has been a challenging one for women, but it would be equally unfair to leave men out from this conversation. © Maddock Films While the world is still coming to terms with the popularity of men's grooming, there still remains a long journey ahead of men when it comes to identifying and dismantling the many male beauty standards and stereotypes that dictate their lives. With Ayushmann Khurrana's Bala releasing today, we hope the film will break these 5 important, gendered stereotypes that exist in our society. 1. Premature Balding Is The End Of The World © Maddock Films Ayushmann's Bala rests upon the theme of premature balding, an aspect of men's life that hasn't been explored previously by Bollywood. The havoc that hair loss and balding can cause to a woman's life is no hidden matter. However, even for men, it has been associated with the very understanding of their identity, which means that premature balding could be the end of it all. So when Bala says, “I am not just losing my hair, I am also losing my identity”, he is actually voicing the dominant thought process of numerous men amidst us. We hope the film deals with this subject in a positive manner and shares a real, acceptable message by the end. 2. Skin Colour Will Fetch You The Ideal Life-Partner © Maddock Films Bhumi Pednekar's character in Bala as the dark-skinned woman Nikita deserves a mention here. We first see her sitting beside her mother who seem to be attending a product demonstration for fairness creams. Going by the trailer it is evident that she is caught in the unforgiving cycle of trying to get over the curse that is being dark-skinned in India. Manhandled by the society and its diktats regarding standards of beauty, Nikita seems to channel the ray of hope who has it in her to challenge society's double-standards and injustice against certain individuals. 3. All Will Fail You In Life If You Don't Meet Standard Beauty Ideals © Maddock Films At one point in the trailer, a frustrated Bala can be seen breaking into a rant on how he has lost more than just his hair over the years. From facing demotion at work to losing his childhood sweetheart, his premature balding has turned his life into shambles and made him into a laughing stock. This constant threat of a doomed life that comes with the failure to meet society's standards of “ideal beauty” seems to be the dominant theme of the film, and we are waiting to see whether Bala gives in to it, or fights back. 4. The Homegrown Sham That Is Divya Aushadhi © Maddock Films Most of us, at some point in our life have either visited or accompanied someone to a 'Baba' who promised to cure all ills through “divya aushadhi”. Back pain, pox or hairfall, these people seem to have a divine medicine for every ailment. Bala too in his desperation, seems to have found his way to such babas and mausis and we hope the film shows him debunking the sham that are these fake fakirs and vaidyas. 5. The Tale Of The Wig © Maddock Films Another positive aspect of the film to look forward to is its treatment of wigs. Bala has tried to normalise the concept of wigs and shed positive light on the fact that choosing to wear a wig is as normal as wearing a shirt to cover one's nakedness. The same goes for the idea of getting a hair transplant, which is often looked down upon and the interested people ridiculed. The film has brought these two important factors together, and the wait is to see how they have been tackled to support and uplift people suffering from premature balding. Here's hoping Bala manages to shut up all the trolls and gathers the fight and courage to live his life on his own terms. View the full article
  3. Ayushmann Khuranna is one of the few good and most humble people in Bollywood, no one can even argue with that. He's like the whole package - a great actor doing incredible movies, and just a great wholesome person in general. Just by looking at him, you get the vibe that he's just a very nice guy who will never, ever behave like a 'celebrity' even though he's one of the top actors in the nation right now. It's been a while I haven't done a Twitter chat. Aaj mauka bhi hai aur dustoor bhi. #AskAyushmann — Ayushmann Khurrana (@ayushmannk) November 7, 2019 Today, he decided to do an AMA on Twitter and asked people to tweet to him with the hashtag #AskAyushmann. The AMA is still very much going on while I'm writing this, but he's already replied to a bunch of people and his responses have proved once again why he's so deserving of the love he receives from everyone. From talking about everyone from SRK to Aamir Khan to his Brother Aparshakti, and even sharing some of his poetry, I can guarantee that it's the best thing on Twitter today. That's cute. I really want to. I'm an SRKian and in #bala I've given a tribute to him in my own sweet way. ð https://t.co/YkDGkdBuuT — Ayushmann Khurrana (@ayushmannk) November 7, 2019 Wah wah! Sigh. 4. Most actors in Bollywood have an impressive sneakers collection. This is possible with multiple brand associations, sourcing and sometimes even a genuine interest in collecting sneakers. Whatever the reason may be, as long as we get to spot really cool ones regularly, we really don't mind. For instance, Ayushmann Khurrana, recently, for the promotion of his film Bala (which is going to release on 7 November 2019) wore an outfit that is definitely worth talking about. Ayushmann wore a bright red puffer bomber by Onitsuka Tiger, beneath which he wore a white t-shirt by Fila. And to complete this look, he paired it with sneakers in red-black colours by Louboutin. This stellar outfit is courtesy of his stylist Isha Bhansali. Here, take a look. (C) Isha Bhansali (c) Isha Bhansali But what's fascinating about the outfit is the fact that his chunky sneakers by Louboutin are called Kiddo Orlato and are priced at $850 which comes to around Rs 60,000. The label's inspiration for the sneakers comes from children's school sneakers that have Velcro attached to them because they don't know how to properly tie their laces. (c) Isha Bhansali In fact, not just one, this silhouette has three velcro straps instead of the laces. Along with this, they're also mounted on a white rubber sole and are crafted in beehive-embossed patent leather. So it looks like he's practically wearing children's sneakers. It really isn't a surprise that Ayushmann Khurrana is experimenting with out-of-the-box aesthetics with his outfits lately, especially at a time when one of his most unconventional films, Bala is about to release. Both onscreen and offscreen, the 34-year-old actor has time and again proven that he isn't afraid to experiment with newer and fresher trends, which also clearly reflects in his sartorial choices in life. 5. Ayushmann Khurrana, who always chooses taboo topics, is at top of his game at the moment. He is an actor who has created his niche in the industry. He believes that he will never fall short of such topics and he will continue to choose scripts that give him a chance to normalise them. View this post on Instagram à¤à¤à¥à¤à¤¾à¤¤ सॠसवाल à¤à¤¾ à¤à¤à¥à¤à¤¾à¤¤ सा à¤à¤µà¤¾à¤¬ हॠà¤à¤à¥à¤à¤¾à¤¤ सॠमà¥à¤°à¥ नà¥à¤à¤¦ मà¥à¤ à¤à¤à¥à¤à¤¾à¤¤ सा à¤à¤ à¤à¤¼à¥à¤µà¤¾à¤¬ हॠà¤à¤à¥à¤à¤¾à¤¤ सॠमहासाà¤à¤° मà¥à¤ à¤à¤à¥à¤à¤¾à¤¤ सा हॠà¤à¤¬ हॠमà¥à¤°à¥ हà¥à¤¸à¤¿à¤¯à¤¤ à¤à¥à¤ भॠनहà¥à¤ à¤à¥à¤ à¤à¤à¥à¤à¤¾à¤¤ हॠलाà¤à¤µà¤¾à¤¬ हà¥à¥¤ -à¤à¤¯à¥à¤·à¥à¤®à¤¾à¤¨ A post shared by Ayushmann Khurrana (@ayushmannk) on Sep 17, 2019 at 2:37am PDT He also said, “I have a lot of friends who are homosexual and I interact with them. There is lots of stuff that you don't even know, like how they operate, they have these closed circles. 377 is abolished but at the same time acceptance is not there, so you need a mainstream film and Shubh Mangal Savdhaan will do that.” Ayushmann chooses his films carefully, even after giving back to back successes, and he has been even more cautious lately. “Successful films reflect on your stardom for sure. You get less time with your family, people start seeing you in a different light, National Award is also there it gives you another credibility, but at the same time, it is difficult to choose topics which are rare and normal. I am glad you are born in a country that is full of taboo subjects. Our country is full of conservative and progressive people, so when they meet together that's when comedy emanates,” he added. When they see women smoking or behave in a certain way, which according to them is not right, so that's how cinema gets fodder from these kinds of situations. Bala for example, there is one definition of beauty which is followed across the nation that the guy has to be tall, has to have good hair or the girl should be fair. We need to challenge this definition of beauty and that's what we have done in Bala. The aspiration will always be to choose normal and different subjects and our country is full of that,” he said. After the success of the actor's film Dream Girl, Bala is set to hit the theatres on November 7 this year and the audience is very eager to watch him. Are you going to watch Bala? 6. 2019 has been a great year for Ayushmann, so far, thanks to his back-to-back hits like Dream Girl and Article 15 that did really well at the box office. But his career is not limited to just acting, as he has proven time and again that his sartorial sensibilities are also always on point and we have not seen anyone dressed to the T as he does. From wearing asymmetrical silhouettes to making a statement in plastic joggers to opting for dapper flappy pants, he grants us all some serious styling lessons. And if you are considering taking lessons on elevating your fashion game, taking notes from Ayushmann will definitely help you. Recently, the boy-next-door made headlines again as he was spotted at the airport sporting a look that grabbed eyeballs. We noticed him wearing pants that look quite 'crushed'. And when we dug deeper, we were surprised to see that he legit owns the same pants in three different colours. Here take a look. 1. His recent airport outfit looked super stylish. He wore a hoodie and layered it over a basic tee and took the look a notch higher with green 'crushed' cargo pants. © Viral Bhayani 2. 7. After seeing Bareilly, Allahabad and several other towns get their own filmi adaptations, Kanpur finally gets its own story told through Kanpuriye. Starring Aparshakti Khurrana, Divyendu Sharma, Harshita Gaur and Vijay Raaz, the film takes on a city full of dreamers, and how those dreams aren't always destined to become reality. We spoke to lead actor Aparshakti Khurrana to learn more about this new take on coming-of-age in small-town India, and why it's worth a watch. Our films normally have a very happy ending, so to say. This is a film where dreams are not achieved, which is the reality of life. More often than not, 99% of the population have dreams, but they never come true. It's important for someone to come out and say 'bas filmon mein hota hai'. Truly Kanpuriye Characters View this post on Instagram One happy family â¤ï¸ A post shared by Bohemian (@ashish_aryan) on Jul 6, 2019 at 11:12am PDT While Khurrana's acting helps bring the town to life, he also admits that Kanpur had a lot of unexpected surprises and lessons in store for him. “I was just crossing one of the streets with my director, and there was a street-food vendor next to us," he recollects. "His stall had a graphic on it that said 'yahan milti hain muskurate hue tikkiyan aur uchalte hue burgerein'. I had never heard that! I never thought that people would have the creative agency to do that!” A lot of the location's uniqueness seeps into the characters, and plays out in the funny yet unfortunate situations they find themselves in. Jaitun, played by Khurrana, has a bright career waiting ahead of him in Mumbai, but is held back by his feelings for Bulbul (Harshita Gaur), much to the displeasure of his family. Gaur also reunites with Divyendu Sharma after they were cast in 2018's Mirzapur. This time, Sharma plays Vijay, an aspiring lawyer at loggerheads with his father, who would rather see his son become a delivery boy. Finally, there's the dynamic father-son duo of Lampat and Jugnu, played by Vijay Raaz and Harsh Mayar. Yet again, the theme of generations at conflict arises - instead of dealing with careers and love, Lampat tries to convince his son to start reading erotic magazines. It's a riot to watch the veteran actor at his best - despite him being a bit typecast. "There's so many people in Mumbai who want to be actors. They're well-exposed, have seen the world of filmmaking, but aren't quite able to crack it. Then, a small-town guy from Chandigarh comes in, and is able to do it. It's only his wisdom of life - most good actors are relatively equally talented in the performing arts, but that core wisdom is what creates success.” Kanpuriye is now streaming on Hotstar and you can catch it here.
  8. Ayushmann Khurrana, the finest new-age actor in the industry, has got an eye for fashion like none other. His choices are splendid and his OTT outfits are always on point. You must have noticed how pastels raided the runways for Spring/Summer 2019. The subtle, light hues are a safe bet to add to your wardrobe and Ayushmann, with his fashion-forward looks, makes even the wackiest piece a clothing item that will work for you as well. If you don't believe us, let his sartorial style speak for itself. Ayushmann recently stepped out wearing a snakeskin printed biker jacket with powder pink, relaxed pants, and Fila white sneakers. This recent number donned by Ayushmann is from the homegrown label, Sahil Aneja. As for accessories, he chose to up his debonair with a black watch. His head-to-toe look in pastel hues makes a dramatic statement for summers. © Instagram/Isha Bhansali © Instagram/Isha Bhansali Ayushmann chose to pair a super quirky tee underneath the exuberant jacket. His eclectic preference is damn easy to cop and don for a desk-to-dinner date. In case, you don't wish to appear too flamboyant, you can tame down the look by rocking a basic white tee with a printed bomber jacket and baggy pants. Bonus: If this mix and match idea seems too much, add a spin with either pastels or a printed number. © Instagram/Isha Bhansali All we have to say is that his fashion sense holds an energetic vibe and we can't stop ourselves from taking notes to elevate our own style statement. Kudos to Isha Bhansali, Ayushmann's stylist for that!
  9. Ayushmann Khurrana has sure come a long way and has made a name for himself in the industry. Being an outsider, it's not easy to make a mark, but with his versatile choices and acting skills, Ayushmann has managed to attract a massive following of movie buffs, who just wait to see him in all his glory on the big screen. Now, he is all set to show his acting prowess in his upcoming film, 'Article 15'. The trailer has already piqued the interest of the viewers and they are waiting with bated breath to see Ayushmann nail his character, like all his other roles. The plot of 'Article 15' bears a resemblance to the 2014 Badaun gangrape and murder case, and it will surely be a mirror to the society and its brutal practices. While a majority of people were all praises for the trailer, some users on social media found it a bit 'offensive' and Ayushmann somewhere knows that it has affected a certain section of the society. Well, according to Ayushmann, there is nothing 'offensive' as such when you will see the film. At an event, when he was asked about the criticism, he said, “But after they watch the film, (they'll realize) there's nothing offensive or maybe we have offended everyone because we haven't targeted any community.” The movie is all set to hit the screens on June 28 and the trailer has given us an insight into what the film has to offer. The film also stars Isha Talwar, Manoj Pahwa, Sayani Gupta, Kumud Mishra, M Naser, Ashish Verma, Sushil Pandey, Subrajyoti Bharat, and Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub. The film talks about Article 15 of the Indian Constitution, which prohibits discrimination by the state against any citizen on the basis of religion, race, caste, ***, and place of birth. Talking about the idea behind the movie, the actor said, “Our country is a unique one because we have all kinds of people and we are very sensitive towards ourselves. We are proud of ourselves, of our communities. We are so depressed in our real lives that we need something to feel proud about. The appeal of this film is we should be proud of our country, but we can't be blindly proud of it. We need to better our nation.” We do agree with his thoughts. What about you?
  10. Ayushmann Khurrana has been on a roll, and no, we aren't referring only to his career. Apart from playing unique roles and doing absolute justice to each one of them, Ayushmann has also been extremely woke when it comes to his fashion choices. From wearing super edgy silhouettes to experimenting with cuts that have never been tried before in the mainstream fashion canvas, he has been doing it all with effortless panache. His latest outfit reminded us of his unusual fashion choices, once again. © Instagram/Ishabhansali The super relaxed yet functional outfit consisting of a dropped shoulder oversized bomber by Siddartha Tytler and a knit T-shirt by Tommy Hilfiger testifies, but what stole the thunder for us, was his footwear. Take a look. © Instagram/Ishabhansali Ayushmann is wearing the 'Trainer Hi' by Puma X Fenty. It's a pair of sports trainers for women, designed by Rihanna. However, it clearly can pass off as unisex, thanks to the versatile design - not that shoes need to have a certain aesthetic for men to be able to wear it - something stylist Isha Bhansali's woke sensibilities clearly are in tune with. © PUMA We are in love with the edgy matte black exterior, replete with the playful flap design. The fact that the solid cushioning is backed by the laces for a secure hold, makes it a solid performance boosting piece. © PUMA When it comes to how much it costs, it's surprisingly affordable. It costs INR 7,799/- here in India. © PUMA All we can say is, just like the roles he plays with perfection, Ayushmann clearly can step into anybody's shoes - in more ways than one.
  11. No one tasted success in the year 2018 like Ayushmann Khurrana did, perhaps except Vicky Kaushal. Whatever he touched turned to gold, and he clearly has decided to keep the momentum going in 2019 as well (he already has started shooting for 'Article 15'). One thing that Ayushmann is as consistent at, just like his acting chops, is his fashion and grooming game. He never stops experimenting, and everything seems to work for him. The latest example? His pornstar moustache. Take a look. © Viral Bhayani Ayushmann just won an award for the most popular performer, and along with an amazing tailcoat, he showed off his brand new pornstache - something he's a natural at pulling off. © Instagram/Ishabhansali Don't you love this sharp new look? © Viral Bhayani When it comes to his style game, as usual, stylist Isha Bhansali went the extra mile and made Ayushmann look like a sophisticated Duke from the Victorian era. As if the ladies already weren't weak-kneed! © Instagram/Ishabhansali We're loving the interplay of grey, white, and black in his ensemble. The white bowtie is an unusual quirk that's adding the distinctive vintage look. © Viral Bhayani All we can say is, full marks on the moustache, as well as the outfit, Ayushmann. Now, we can't wait to see the magic you're about to bring to the big screen.
  12. 2018 legit belonged to Ayushmann Khurrana in terms of critical as well as commercial success. His younger brother, Aparshakti, also is just as talented and is slowly but steadily carving his own niche in Bollywood as well, which is purely performance oriented - something both the brothers are pros at. When it comes to fashion as well, they are the most stylish siblings around, who are not afraid to experiment with unusual silhouettes and colour palettes. They just proved it yet again at the Filmfare Glamour And Style Awards by wearing shoes that are legit the most glittery and sparkly shoes we have ever seen. © Viral Bhayani © Viral Bhayani Just look at them! While Ayushmann wore a bejewelled pair in teal, Aparshakti stunned with a pair of charcoal grey shoes that has the sparkle of a rhinestone studded surface. Let's just say these babies shined brighter than their performances combined! © Viral Bhayani When it comes to their outfits as well, they didn't hold back. Ayushmann dazzled in a silver striped Amit Aggarwal creation, while Aparshakti kept it classy with a Shantanu and Nikhil ensemble. © Instagram/ishabhansali © Instagram/aparshakti_khurana Now, that is what you call a 'well-rounded performance'. Well done, bros!
  13. When you see a traditional Indian quilt, also known as a 'Razai', a Sherwani inspired by it is perhaps the last thing you'd think of. But, Ayushmann Khurrana just wore one, and our jaws have hit the floor. Take a look! © Bizasia Created by Kolkata based designer-duo Debarghya and Navonil (famously addressed as Dev R Nil) and styled by celebrity stylist Isha Bhansali, Ayushmann's sherwani just reminded us of the intricacy and richness traditional Indian arts and crafts have to offer, but are often sidelined by mainstream fashion. © Instagram/devrnil © Instagram/devrnil The design of the Sherwani is based on the super-fine detailing of the traditional Indian mandala/rangoli patterns found on embroidered Razais. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Debarghya/Navonil (@devrnil) on Jan 4, 2019 at 9:41pm PST Traditional hand embroidery artists and tailors from Serampore have meticulously translated the regal, intricate designs into an extremely 'wearable' Sherwani that looks straight out of a fashion masterclass. © Instagram/devrnil © Instagram/devrnil Pieces like these are just a reminder that it's time for us to look at the priceless treasure hidden within our own arts and crafts, and that there is a huge potential for sartorial gems to be excavated from there. 14. Karan Johar and his sixth season of 'Koffee With Karan' are only getting wilder with every week and looks like tonight's episode won't be any different either. After hosting the likes of Alia Bhatt-Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh-Akshay Kumar, KJo is now set to welcome on his show two boys who are currently ruling Bollywood. Both these uber talented actors started their Bollywood careers as Vicky - one as Vicky Kaushal and one as 'Vicky Donor'. View this post on Instagram Up next on the Koffee couch, Vicky and the donor! #KoffeeWithKaran #KoffeeWithVicky #KoffeeWithAyushmann A post shared by Star World (@starworldindia) on Dec 9, 2018 at 8:46am PST There are absolutely no doubts about the duo being a power-house of talents and their movies speak volumes about the same. But, it is their bromance that is winning our hearts. And like every time, we've got our hands on all things crazy and fun that will happen on tonight's episode. Ayushmann & His Dad Both Have A Crush On Tabu The mysterious ending of Ayushmann and Tabu's movie 'Andhadhun' did not surprise as much as the revelation that Ayushmann made on 'Koffee With Karan'. During the Rapid Fire Round, Ayushmann revealed that Tabu is the only girl who he and his father have fought over. Before you spit that coffee out or jump off your couch, he meant that both of them have a crush on her, "She's a common crush between me and my father." Star World Guess Who Is Ayushmann's Crush & His Favourite Co-Star KJo's Rapid Fire round puts even the best to test and that's exactly what happened on this episode too. KJo asked Ayushmann to pick a celebrity he would like to go on a date with if he was single. Surprisingly, Ayushmann chose P.V Sindhu and said that he finds her really hot. He also called Bhumi Pednekar the co-star he'd always look forward to work with. They've earlier worked in movies like 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' and 'Shubh Mangal Savdhaan'. View this post on Instagram There's a bromance brewing next week on #KoffeeWithKaran with @ayushmannk and @vickykaushal09. #KoffeeWithVicky #KoffeeWithAyushmann A post shared by Star World (@starworldindia) on Dec 9, 2018 at 9:25am PST Ayushmann Once Interviewed Karan Johar As An RJ "One of my first interviews was with you as an RJ," Ayushmann told Karan on the show. It was during an award show and Ayushmann further adds that he even asked for his number. "There was a Radio Box and I interviewed you and I was like, 'Can I have your number? I want to be an actor'." Johar apparently gave his landline number and when he called the person on the other line said, "We don't audition outsiders or newcomers or something like that." To this, Karan said, "Oh God. I, you know, used to give a wrong number to people also." He further said, "I gave you the right number. That was very sweet of me! I must've thought that you have potential!" Well, from interviewing him to sitting on the couch of his coveted show, Ayushmann has come a long way. Star World Vicky Kaushal Cannot Pick Subtle Hints From Women While Vicky Kaushal has become Bollywood's latest heartthrob, he clearly does not understand when a woman is hitting on him. Vicky's friend shared an incident where a girl had a major crush on Vicky and had flown down from another city for one night to potentialy hook up with him. Woah, now that's some crazy move. Unfortunately for the girl, Vicky didn't realise this and ended up hooking up with some other girl at the same party. Vicky then clarified that he only got to know about it next day and had fallen for another girl by that time. Star World Vicky Kaushal Is A Mumma's Boy Another friend of Vicky Kaushal reveals that "Vicky Kaushal is a full mumma's boy." He jokes how the first thing that Vicky does on any vacation is, calling his mother to tell her what he's eaten the previous day and what he plans to eat the next day. "It's as though you're on a vacation with a fifth grader and not an adult," his friend adds. In fact, Vicky is also afraid of horror movies and cannot even watch them in the daytime with all the lights on. On the show, he says that both Ayushmann and Vicky have a very organic Punjabi boy image and asks them how true is it. To this Ayushmann jokes, "There is no facade, because there is no fasaad." Well, we can't wait for the duo to win our hearts with their charm and funny answers on tonight's episode of 'Koffee With Karan' that will air at 9PM on Star World.
  15. Nepotism has been the biggest buzzword in the film industry ever since that 'Koffee with Karan' episode with Kangana Ranaut aired but looks like things are getting better for the 'outsiders' of the industry. It's great to see that so many self-made actors are finally getting recognized for their talent and finally getting the attention they truly deserve. Ayushmann Khurrana is one of those actors and he's proved his talent and worth over and over again, twice just this month as well. After being a part of two brilliant movies – 'Andhadhun' and 'Badhaai Ho' – just two weeks apart, he's probably made a fan out of everyone who watched these movies because he was, and always has been, very relatable. But, entering Bollywood without a 'godfather' or a last name like 'Kapoor' or 'Khan' was not an easy task. He started off his career by being a RJ, a VJ, and taking part in several reality shows before reaching where he is now, so yeah, this guy really has worked for everything. So, when asked if he felt like he had to work harder than the star kids to get where he is, he did agree but also said that it didn't matter much. He said, “My debut, Vicky Donor, was when I was 27. If I was a star kid, it would've been 22. I don't think the difference of five years would've affected much. I think I was a much more mature actor at 27.” Now, this is the perfect way to handle quite a controversial question and what can I say, he's really smart. Talking about how he started in the showbiz, he said, “I started pretty young, I did my first reality show when I was 17. Then came Roadies in 2004 when I was 19. I was just picking these reality shows but I never saw this as a struggle. I was a radio jockey after graduation. I was 22, the youngest RJ in Delhi at that time. It was all fun. I needed all these experiences to happen to become an actor. Nobody has gone through this transition and it's just surreal.” Now, that's a positive way of looking at the 'struggle', and here I thought I couldn't like this guy more! We know for sure he's going to be around for a long time and we can't wait to see what movie he'll do next where he will play a middle-class Delhi guy!
  16. Ayushmann Khurrana and Aparshakti Khurrana are perhaps the only pair of siblings in Bollywood who not only are talented in terms of acting, but are also slowly climbing the charts when it comes to commercial success. Add to that the effortless likability both of them exude, and you get the entire package. However, acting isn't their only forte. When it comes to being fashion-forward, they have evolved at an unmatched pace, and now are perched on top of the pyramid. They were recently spotted together, and showed us why they are the most fashionable siblings in Bollywood right now. © Viral Bhayani Be it Ayushmann's mesh trench coat paired with a longline T-shirt, or Aparshakti's Virgin Mary Relaxed longline T-shirt, the Khurrana bros are the champs when it comes to new-age street style. It almost looks like they are the members of an uber cool band that only allow people who are woke in terms of their style game. © Viral Bhayani Both of them chose to wear relaxed black trousers - an apt choice for both of their outfits, which are distinctly different but are alike in terms of their cool quotient. While Aparshakti chose a pair that are cropped at the ankle, Ayushmann chose a regular one that can also pass off as a relaxed pair of black joggers. © Viral Bhayani They decided to go separate ways only in terms of their footwear. While Ayushmann went for the tried and tested aesthetic of a pair of Air Jordans, Aparshakti chose a pair of classy black leather shoes. © Viral Bhayani © Viral Bhayani All we can say is that we are mighty impressed by the crazy aesthetics both of them have embraced unabashedly. Way to go, boys!
  17. Ayushmann Khurrana is on a roll. The multi-talented actor has been delivering good performances consistently for quite some time now, and his films are turning out to be really entertaining. However, he clearly is adept at carrying more than just big films on his able shoulders. His clothes are big too, quite literally. Confused? Take a look at the trousers he stepped out wearing, for 'Badhaai Ho' screening. © Instagram - Isha Bhansali © Viral Bhayani As big as those pants are, we absolutely love them. The pleated, super wide silhouette looks phenomenal, mainly because of their construction and fall. We like fact that they have been paired with the grey jacket, and a translucent white shirt. © Viral Bhayani When it comes to accessories, we totally like the minimalistic vibe going on with the statement glasses and the watch. The fact that he hasn't gone overboard, shows that he totally understands the nuances of the new-age street aesthetic. © Instagram - Isha Bhansali When you have a pair of pants that are this statement, you can totally wear a super simple shirt and button it up till the top for a sophisticated and ramp-ready look. Adding a jacket would be ideal when it comes to dealing with the nip in the air, for the fancy evening stroll. © Viral Bhayani We love the chunky white sneakers that he has been wearing frequently of late. They clearly are super versatile. In a nutshell, we are loving this unusual aesthetic, Ayushmann. Kudos!
  18. Ayushmann Khurrana is one of those rare celebrities who is never hesitant when it comes to experimenting - be it the eclectic roles he has been taking up of late, or the clothes he wears. For his latest movie 'Andhadhun', he wore a pair of jogger pants that are really strange - but super classy at the same time. In fact, they don't even come across as jogger pants when you first look at them. Take a look. © Viral Bhayani The super loose, comfortable, draped silhouette is extremely fashion-forward, and looks straight out of a runway. The fact that he has paired it with a hoodie of the same fabric, gives it the feel of a swanky jumpsuit - without the functional inconvenience associated. © Viral Bhayani One of the main reasons we like the Pawan Sachdeva piece is that it's fearless, and makes a statement that men's fashion doesn't have to be boring in the slightest. In fact, the unisex appeal of the garment is one of its strongest points. The pleats, the volume, and the construction are extremely 'statement', yet minimalistic. © Viral Bhayani While draping is one of the major elements when it comes to Indian ethnic wear, the advent of pants have rendered it rather obsolete. However, this particular piece has the grace of a draped garment, along with the convenience of a relaxed pair of jogger pants. © Viral Bhayani Coming to the overall look, we love the white Disruptors, as they pair perfectly well with the dark ash-brown shade. Plus, the round sunnies in amber-chrome is giving the whole outfit an edgy, retro vibe. © Instagram Clearly, stylist Isha Bhansali is on top of her game. Well done!
  19. Talent seems to be an inherent part of the Khurrana family. How do you explain both brothers to be natural actors, who have been blowing us away with their extremely mature performances of late? We have known Ayushmann for ages now, thanks to his career as a VJ, but little did we know that little bro Aparshakti, much like the literal meaning of his name, will be a powerhouse of talent who will make a niche for himself in the same industry as his brother. He has clearly been following his big bro's footsteps - and not just in terms of his career, but in terms of style, too. We have maintained for a while now that Ayushmann Khurrana is one of those rare actors in Bollywood whose style game is classy, but fearless and gutsy at the same time. Aparshakti clearly took a leaf out of his book and chose to dress up in a way that reminded us of Ayushmann, while complementing his outfit with a pair of shoes, that are as quirky as his screen presence and choice of characters. © Viral Bhayani Aparshakti chose to wear a pair of classics - white sneakers from Nike X Off-White. What struck us was the presence of the signature Off-White orange tag by Virgil Abloh. He didn't cut it off, and no, it's not a mistake. © Viral Bhayani The presence of a plastic tag on the Off-White shoes by Virgil Abloh is a calculated fashion/branding move. For the uninitiated, Virgil Abloh is an American Fashion designer - a fashion beast, rather, who has been the Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton's Menswear and is the face behind one of the most talked about fashion labels - Off-White. Even though the users have been instructed to cut off the zip tie once they acquire the shoe, the users clearly have taken it upon themselves to consider that little bit of rebellion by not cutting off the zip tie as a hypebeast move - rightfully so, we say. © Viral Bhayani Coming to his outfit, we are in love with the linen ensemble he is wearing. The powder peach outfit with the white kurta inside is extremely relaxed, comfortable, and mature when it comes to streetstyle that's also super classy. © Viral Bhayani All we can say is, we have a new fashion icon to keep an eye out for in Aparshakti. Kudos!
  20. When all of Bollywood is trying to win at style, Ayushmann Khurrana sits in the comfort of his bed, with the trophy by his bed side. His sartorial decisions have a league of their own, all thanks to a knack for picking dope pieces every day, cc: his stylist Isha Bhansali. His willingness to try new things, experiment like he's talking and bringing his A-game onto the forefront, have been his life-constants for a while. And while we're citing this fact about him, let's also mention, that he's one of the front-runners of wearing apparel-hybrids in public. Once again, at a recent press conference, the actor gave a splendid example of his fly-ness at fashion. While topping a knit over a crispy white, layering it up with a Pawan Sachdeva jacket, black bottoms and a pair of FILA Disruptor shoes; the guy pulled out all stops with his ensemble here. The highlight for us, however, were his lug-soled white sneakers: © Instagram/Ayushmann Khurrana For #1, it's hard to ignore, that the shape of the shoe is a FILA-classic. As a matter of fact, the Disruptor style is also a represent of a 90s revival, all while being supremely comfortable and light on the feet. It features a moulded rubberised outsole, an embossed/embroidered logo and a unique eyebrow detailing on the sides. © FILA India The pair is completely manufactured out of a synthetic leather upper, textile lining and well, let's just say — looks like quite the winner for channeling some dope street style. It won't be weird to mention, that the pair is another symbol of the trend of clunky, gigantic kicks, that's been taking the sneaker-world by storm nowadays. © Instagram/Ayushmann Khurrana Having said that, fortunately, the FILA Disruptors aren't the most expensive out there either. Easily available at VegNonVeg and Superkicks, they retail at a price of Rs. 6,999 (which is honestly, quite a steal). If you're looking to drop your cash on a versatile pair, that also scores high on the charts, let's call this an end to your search.
  21. Ayushmann Khurrana is the epitome of a natty dresser. If you don't agree, you just haven't been keeping up. Right from nonchalantly carrying off edgy silhouettes to charmingly pulling off cool casuals to doing absolute justice to formals like an stiff upper-lipped Brit, he sure does know how to do it. His latest appearance at IIFA in a princely tux just proved it once again. Wondering how he manages to pull it off every time? He focuses on the basics. What exactly are the basics? Read on. We have listed out the four simple but important things every man must focus on while suiting up. 1. The fit needs to be just right. When we say right, we actually mean it. You can afford other garments being 'a little loose' or 'a touch too snug', but not your tux. If you workout and are planning to just 'pack a punch' right before the event by either bulking or shredding, count it in. If you're investing in 'bespoke', make it worth the money. © Instagram/ishabhansali 2. Get a tuxedo shirt. No, a regular white shirt will not do. A tuxedo shirt is one with vertical textured stripes on the front, that either runs the entire length of the shirt or ends a little bit above your bellybutton. Plus, it needs to be one with cufflinks. Go the traditional way, no shortcuts here, please. Make sure it fits you well, but isn't tight. © Instagram/ishabhansali 3. Invest in a cummerbund. Does it seem to be a bit extra? Well, if you care enough to wear a tux, why won't you take it all the way and maintain the sartorial sanctity of the same? That seemingly extra and small little detail will set you apart in the room, for sure. © Instagram/ishabhansali 4. Get the trouser length right. If you're into cropped trousers, great, get it cropped just above your ankles, but not too much, as it is formal wear after all. Also, it's imperative to make sure that your pants are neither too loose nor tight. © Instagram/ishabhansali You are now ready to grab all the eyeballs in the ballroom.
  22. 2017 was without a doubt a brilliant year for the insanely talented Ayushmann Khurrana. In an industry where folks are still struggling to get a grip on the nuances of acting, this man can charms your socks off with not just his performance but also his lovely voice. Being in Bollywood, which is very much dominated by a few names, it's stunning to see how Ayushmann is making his way up the ladder by carving his own space. What makes him a shining example is the fact that neither does he come from a film background nor did he have a godfather launching him with a tailor-made film. “Kya likh kar bhejoon aisa, Ki lage tujhe jaise, yaad hai tu mujhe Aur yaad bhi nahin.” -Ayushmann A post shared by Ayushmann Khurrana (@ayushmannk) on Apr 6, 2018 at 11:12pm PDT And what makes his achievements more noteworthy is that despite being around eight films old, he has already gained a massive and devoted fan following. While people have a fixed plan to achieve what they want, Ayushmann on the other hand had multiple plans to reach his goal. He believed in himself and there was just no stopping him after that. Six brilliant years in the industry since he made his debut, we caught up with him for a chat and had a heart to heart conversation that left us in awe: MensXP: From 'Roadies' to Bollywood, tell us about your fascinating journey to stardom. Ayushmann: It was a long and fruitful journey. In fact, it started before Roadies when I was a part of a singing reality show 'Popstars'. I was in the top five and I was also working as a backup artist for the band. It was my first stint with reality shows; it was in 2002 when I was not even 18 at the time. Roadies happened in 2004 and I won that. Then radio happened in 2006, MTV happened in 2008 and 'Vicky Donor' happened in 2012. It took me 10 long years to enter Bollywood. So that was a long and fruitful journey, I wouldn't call it struggling but it was a lot of fun. MensXP: Were reality shows your well thought plan to enter Bollywood? Ayushmann: Obviously, because I am not from the industry, so no one will prepare a launch pad for me. So generally it's been a trend that people who are not from the industry are either from the television industry, modelling or either through theatre, they had to do various other things to each this destination. So I had to take plan 'D', plan 'C' to make my own route. Open button. Closed button. Sit down. Thank you. Hosted an event after a long time. (Styled by @ishabhansali ) A post shared by Ayushmann Khurrana (@ayushmannk) on Nov 10, 2017 at 11:02am PST MensXP: Your character in 'Vicky Donor' was quite unusual, what made you pick it and how challenging was it? Ayushmann: You won't believe that I have said 'no' to a lot of scripts before going for 'Vicky Donor'. I always thought when I do a film it has to be different and out of the box. Because I have seen as an outsider that if your first film doesn't work, then you are not given an opportunity if you are not star kid. So I had to do something which was radical and different and I since I was aware about this process of sperm donation, because I had donated sperm in 2004 as part of 'Roadies'. When I read the script I was bowled over by the subject because it wasn't something cheap but something very progressive. Also, the director was very creditable, Shoojit Sircar has made 'Yahaan' that time and I loved the film. So I was well aware that I was working with a credible director with a credible film, I was very confident. MensXP: And what was your reaction the day your film released, were you open to criticism? Ayushmann: You know I am realistic, I don't live in la la land or a bubble, because I have seen that happening in front of me as an RJ and a VJ. I have gone through all of this and it wasn't an overnight success, I took 10 long years, and I was very practical as a person. So I was very happy with the positive review we got and the success of the film. Thank you Bhubhaneshwar for a fun night. My band @ayushmannbhava Yashraj manager @disasterdsouza Music managers @canvastalent A post shared by Ayushmann Khurrana (@ayushmannk) on Feb 5, 2018 at 9:26am PST MensXP: People love your voice, when can we hear you sing again? Ayushmann: I am in talks and I am jamming with my friend, you will be hearing something soon. I usually don't cut a single when my films are releasing back to back. And last year three films of mine released and each had a song of mine, so there was no point cutting a single. So this time around, I think I will be cutting one. Also, since my last two films ' Shubh Mangal Savadhan' and 'Bareilly Ki Barfi' had a Hindi song, so this time people should expect a Punjabi song. MensXP: Who has been your most favourite female co-star and why? Ayushmann: It's Bhumi Pednekar, we have done two films together. And we are great buddies, she is like my boy buddy and I am like her girl buddy, so we share crazy chemistry on and off-screen. So it has to be Bhumi. MensXP: That's wonderful, so what's that one thing you love about Bhumi? Ayushmann: I think we think alike, it reflects on the choice of cinema we pick. We have the same sense of humour, it's like a house of fire when we are together on the sets. (c) Twitter MensXP: What was that one turning point in your life? Ayushmann: I think when I became an actor, when I did 'Vicky Donor' that was my turning point. Suddenly I was working 24/7, when I was a VJ I used to work 15 days a month but after becoming an actor, I started working for 32 days a month, it felt like that. So our personal lives suffered because of that, because both of us were not ready for that kind of shift in our lifestyle and I had no time for my personal relationship. MensXP: What has been your lowest point, when you felt like giving up? Ayushmann: There were lot of low points; I had seen a lot of rejections. There were a lot of people saying that "your eyebrows are weird and bushy, you can't be an actor". If you see my Instagram that's what my bio reads, 'Eyebrows are bushy' because I am proud of them. I have gone through a lot, but if you believe in your talent, you can achieve anything in life. It's about believing in your potential. Today's story. Really fun photoshoot @JWsahar A post shared by Ayushmann Khurrana (@ayushmannk) on Oct 9, 2017 at 12:39pm PDT MensXP: You are called the face of content cinema today. Tell us about your content choices? Ayushmann: The process is very simple, I hear the narration, I need to connect with the film. I come from a theatre background, I connect with the masses at the grassroot level, so if the script reflects that experience of my life, and connects with the primary sector, the script has to be about the simplicity of the nation. That's what makes me pick the film. To be frank I give priority to the script first. If it is good, the character automatically becomes good. A script plays a major role in the film, if you connect with it you give your 100% as an actor. As per that you transform yourself, like for me ' Dum Laga Ke Haisha' was the toughtest. There were references for me as my character was a loser. So I had to really work hard on that accent and the body language. MensXP: Have you ever learned anything from the characters you play and executed it in your life? Ayushmann: Sometimes you give something to the film from your real life experiences and at times you take something from the film and incorporate it in your real life. No one does that consciously, it just happens. You should never do it purposely, it should organically flow. Afeemi mix. Prepping for muscat and dubai. 26th and 27th oct respectively. @ayushmannbhava @shannondonaldofficial A post shared by Ayushmann Khurrana (@ayushmannk) on Oct 2, 2017 at 7:45am PDT MensXP: Actor-singer-poet: any other talent that Ayushmann is hiding from us? Ayushmann: (laughs) I don't know, I am just following my passion. I always wanted to become an actor who could sing and I am doing that. I have always written poetry from childhood, it's just that people got to know about it now. The idea is to have a book of my own in a year's time. I think you just need one talent to survive in life but I am glad I have certain aspects in my life. I just have to hold on to that even more.
  23. Google defines colour-blocking as the use of contrasting blocks or panels of solid, typically bright colours. What they didn't mention is that colour-blocking, when done right, can transport you into the league of seasoned fashionistas in a jiffy. Technically, colour blocking involves the use opposite shades in the colour wheel, but you don't necessarily have to incorporate that into your personal style statement. Especially while sporting a sophisticated silhouette like a well-fitted suit, taking a subtler way is advisable. Ayushmann Khurrana's latest appearance in an extremely subtle colour-blocked suit is the proof of that. © © Viral Bhayani The secret behind Ayushmann's super playful, informal appeal in a formal outfit is colour-blocking. Let us break it down into three easy steps. © Viral Bhayani 1. Get a suit in a pastel shade (it works the best) or a vibrant shade like electric blue. The suit in itself does not have to include colours unless you're feeling super adventurous and actually getting it stitched - in which case you can use different/contrasting colours for the lapel, or even a particular section of the blazer. © Viral Bhayani 2. This is the most important part - focus on what you're wearing inside. Here, Ayushmann is wearing a super cool shirt which is really acting as the cornerstone for the entire look. The shirt has colour-blocked panels which are extremely conspicuous but don't 'clash' with each other. The pattern is perfect for creating a flawless statement. Choose a shirt with similar colour aesthetics, or you can even choose a t-shirt if you're feeling a bit more casual. In a nutshell, pick a shirt or a t-shirt with a bold colour scheme that complements your suit and stands apart at the same time while not overpowering the suit. © Instagram/ishabhansali 3. Finish off the look with a pair of solid sneakers. Pick a shade from the outfit for best results. Or, if you're comfortable with it, go with a completely contrasting colour. Just be mindful of keeping it simple. © Viral Bhayani And, voila!
