  1. The entire Indian subcontinent was left aghast on 27th November when the brutal rape and murder of Priyanka Reddy came to light. The 27-year-old veterinary doctor was treated far worse than animals by a group of men in Hyderabad, who raped her, smothered her and finally burnt her body before ditching it under a bridge. The country was left trembling with shock, fear and anger at what had come to pass, and how incidents of rape and assault are slowly becoming the norm in our country. Amidst huge public uproar and media outcry since the fateful day, not only were the accused apprehended but the case was also being pushed for a quick verdict against the perpetrators. © Twitter-RupsaChak However, before the legal system could do the deed, all the four accused in the police custody were neutralised during a police 'encounter' during the early hours of 6th December in Hyderabad. According to the police, the accused were taken to the scene of the crime for a reconstruction of events, when the accused allegedly snatched the weapons from the police and attacked them in a bid to flee from the location. Following which, all four of them were shot down during the altercation. © Twitter Yogita Bhayana One man, the Cyberabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar has become the face of this 'encounter' that a majority of the people in the country are in support of. While the debate is on regarding how right or wrong the 'encounter' was, here are 5 things you need to know about IPS officer V C Sajjanar, who is being hailed as a hero by many: 1. Officer V C Sajjanar is a native of Karnataka and is a 1996 batch Indian Police Service cadet. He is a Commerce graduate, and also holds an MBA from the Karnataka University. © Twitter-CP-Hyderaba 2. While IPS officer V C Sajjanar began his career as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, he has held many distinguished titles within the police force, such as Superintendent of Police Warangal, IG of Special Intelligence Branch and currently he was serving as the Cyberabad Police Commissioner. 3. Officer Sajjanar has been involved in two other heavy-duty encounters in the past. In 2008, three men accused of throwing acid on two girls were shot dead by police during an encounter. Officer Sajjanar was the Superintendent of Police in Warangal at the time. © Twitter-CP-Hyderaba 4. Yet again as the IG of the anti-Naxalite unit of the Special Intelligence Branch in 2016, Officer Sajjanar was given credit for the arrest of many top Maoists and the encounter of senior Maoist leader Mohammed Nayeemuddin. 5. Known by his colleagues and juniors as a soft-spoken and mild-mannered man, the Priyanka Reddy encounter would be officer Sajjanar's third high-profile encounter case in service. He is known to work passionately towards the cause of women and child safety, cybercrime and human trafficking. View the full article

  3. We're back to discussing some rather annoying millennial dating trends yet again. I do, however, believe that we need a dictionary for actually looking up these trends to know what it is we're going through. As sad as it sounds, it's important because names for crass dating behaviour are readily available and you can choose to see them as red flags and step away as and when needed. We have another one doing the round and this one's rather interesting and stems from an idea in the 90s. Remember that annoying illustration on MS Word of a paper clipper that would crop up in case you needed help writing a letter or formatting your CV? Well, his name was clippy and he's back making an appearance in the dating world this time. © YouTube Illustrator, Samantha Rothenberg used this very popular icon to denote a dating trend which is quite common with both boys and girls and we can relate so much to this! The icon represents a certain kind of flaky behaviour and her post on her Instagram account, Violent Claire, shows clippy actually voicing this behaviour out. View this post on Instagram Who remembers clippy? ð well he's here to make sure you don't forget him ð¤ A post shared by Samantha Rothenberg (@violetclair) on Jul 18, 2019 at 9:29am PDT This post, though, has gone viral because it makes so much sense in today's dating world. But what is she trying to tell us through it? Well, clippy here is an indicator that even though he's a long forgotten friend, he will keep coming back to check on you, just so you don't forget him or lose sight of him. While he acts like a great metaphor, that's what some dating patterns are like. You probably have someone in your life who will never want to be with you consistently but will surface when it's been a while and come back in to your life, since you've been on the backburner for them! "To me, paper clipping is when someone has you on the back burner and feels like you're about to go cold. They'll reach out — not in attempt to see you, or move things forward — but to re-stoke the flame and make sure you're still an option. It's wildly common, and there's something empowering about putting a name to the action — now, rather than letting a papperclipper give you false hope, you can call it out for what it is and move on," Samantha told a popular publication in an interview. © AA Films Basically paperclippers have a formidable need to feel good about themselves by seeking validation from the familiars time and again and this is a dangerous territory to be stuck in. In all probability they could be an ex, who keeps coming back to reassure herself that she still has you on the hook, just in case she needs you temporarily. Even though the term paperclipping is new to this trend, someone disappearing from your life after a few dates and resurfacing months later to see if they still get a response is not really a new phenomena and it happens ever so often. "Paperclipping is a new term for an age-old behavior that has allowed people to increase their sense of worth by feeding on superficial, intermittent connection — and the emotional responses of others," Samantha further added. If you look into it, paperclippers are people who are emotionally immature and need constant assurance and validation so they keep coming back, instead of committing to one person. Their life goes on in circles because they resurface ever time they need a dose of something familiar to make them feel good. © Excel Entertainemnt "I have met people on a dating site that continually do this, and in fact, seem to not want a relationship. When asked, they will respond that they are just not sure about a relationship. So they meet people, disappear and then show back up," Samantha stated in an interview. The signs of being paperclipped are easy to recognise. The person will come in to your life, show interest in you, go out for a couple of dates with you till they start practising the dating trend that haunts everyone-ghosting. A few months later, she will resurface and want the pattern repeated. You surely will figure out that she's paperliclpping you because this really isn't rocket science. This is effectively harmful for someone who gets a tad attached to this serial paperclipper. So, the trick is to never give into their whims of meeting you again and again for them to disappear. © AA Films While paperclipping is a common phenomena today, it can be avoided if you realise their pattern and stay away from it. In this day and age, where love and relationships are so frivolous, everyone is emotionally stunted when it comes to dating and understanding anyone's emotions. The trick is to know what's good for you and be smart about how you want to associate yourself with other people. View the full article
  4. The term 'mass surveillance' doesn't induce a lot of confidence, does it? Everything you probably know about mass surveillance is tied to privacy infringement probably because it's essentially a practice of spying on a significant part of a population. Well, the fear of mass surveillance is now lingering over Indians because the Modi Govt is building the world's biggest facial recognition system for mass surveillance. The government is building the system in order to fight crime and catch criminals. Is it really. though? We'll get to that. © Reuters When I say mass surveillance, I don't mean the one where the government is planning to go the limits of email interceptions, wiretapping, and computer hacking. Right now, the efforts are limited to installing cameras to keep a track of everything that's happening. Or least that's the part of the story we know so far. Keeping the speculations aside, it's worth pointing out that Indians have mixed feelings about this whole mass surveillance thing. While some think that it interferes with our fundamental right to privacy, which is a debatable topic by itself in India, others think it's a good idea that's already being used by countries like the US and China to fight crime. And since there's only a little information that's available to use right now as to what will be deployed, what the data will be used for and how it'll be regulated, this remains a complex issue to tackle right now. So, is India ready to be monitored at all times? © Reuters There are different answers to this question depending on who you're asking. We may be technologically equipped to install the system that's necessary to monitor people at all times. But honestly, it seems like a disaster waiting to happen. Why? The simple answer is because India doesn't have a privacy and data protection law. A lot of whistleblowers and privacy experts are currently debating on mass surveillance and the use of the internet, and how they invade our privacy. They're doing it because it's indeed a sensitive topic which people don't seem to take very seriously. It's unimaginably scary how much tech giants know about us with whatever data that's available through our social feeds alone. Plus, this news comes at a time when the reports about Indians being illegally spied upon using Israeli software just came out recently. With no proper laws in place, a mass surveillance system sounds like a bad idea. At the end of the day, it's your personal data that's being collected. It's your facial data that's going to power this surveillance system. Will The Data Be Safe? © Wikipedia What about the data protection rules? When you're talking about a mass surveillance system of this scale, it means the government is going to collect critical information of Indian citizens. It's the kind of data that can easily be misused. With no laws to state how this data is going to be stored, used and protected, this sounds like another privacy breach that's waiting to happen. Even some of the biggest tech companies with state-of-the-art technology to protect the data have fallen prey to hacks and security breaches. There's no way to tell if India is ready to safeguard this kind of sensitive info, at least not right now. Mass Surveillance Won't Stop Crimes Altogether © Reuters According to India's national crime bureau, this mass surveillance tech is an effort in “modernising the police force, information gathering, criminal identification, verification”. So technically, we're not looking at a tech that's made to stop the first degree crimes. The camera footage can only be used to identify the criminals after the crime has been committed. Yes, that's good to prevent it from happening again, but don't you think we need proper force to stop them from happening in the first place. Yes, it'll help the police find, say, missing children and other people, but that's not the only issue we're dealing with, are we? People are obviously entitled to their own opinions and are free to share their concerns but at the end of the day, we need to wait and see how the Government is implementing the whole system. It may or may not help us fight crimes, but it could be a good step in the right direction. I just hope we won't be reading stories about how mass surveillance has made our lives harder, say, a few years down the line. Tell us what you think in the comments section below. 5. Yesterday marked another historic day for people across the country and the world, after Supreme Court passed its verdict on the decades-old Ayodhya land dispute. A special five-judge Constitutional bench, set up by the Supreme Court of India, gave its verdict that the disputed site in Ayodhya will be used for the construction of a Ram temple. They further announced that a five-acre land in the area will be given to the Muslim community for the construction of a mosque. © Reuters On one hand, when the esteemed bench of judges were passing their judgement, people on social media were busy posting about it and soon enough, the hashtags blew up to an extent that it became a top trend...globally. Reportedly, #AyodhyaVerdict was the top trend yesterday not just in India but across the world, with more than 550,000 tweets. In fact, it's still one of the top trends in India. Apart from this, hashtags like #RamMandir, #BabriMasjid, #RamJanmabhoomi, #SupremeCourt, @RanjanGogoi, #HinduMuslimBhaiBhai and #AyodhyaJudgement were also among the top trends. © Twitter From PM Narendra Modi to Bollywood celebrities, almost everyone hailed this verdict by the Supreme Court. The five-judge Constitutional bench that passed the verdict included Justices DY Chandrachud, S Abdul Nazeer, Ashok Bhushan and SA Bobde and was headed by the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi. 6. The world of grooming is constantly evolving. Every year we're introduced to a whirlwind of groundbreaking techniques that make grooming so much simpler and less time-consuming. So, if you're someone who wants to keep up with the world of beauty, you could start with getting acquainted with these terms: 1. Application Application refers to the technique one uses to apply a certain product on your face. Application could range from using your hands or an applicator which could be silicon-based or sponge based among other things. The world of beauty is wildly experimental and has sometimes gone ahead and used condoms or even boiled eggs for the application of foundation or concealer. But, hey, don't freak out! There were mostly viral challenges or trends that died soon after. You could start with your hands, no biggie. © Getty Images 2. Emollient A product that hydrates your skin and has soothing properties. This product should definitely be in your routine if you happen to have dry skin. So any hydrating cream in your stash can easily be classified as an emollient. This brings us to our next point. © Getty Images 3. Retinol A derivative of vitamin A, look for this ingredient in your skincare. Products like creams and gels stimulate skin cell turnover and increase collagen production. The maximum amount allowed in over-the-counter products is one percent. Scout for this product in your creams for better results. Retinol really helps with skin discolouration, scars and signs of ageing. Next time, you're out looking for a face moisturiser, scout for this product in your creams by looking at the back label for better results. 4. K-Beauty Korea-based skin care products like natural essence, the hyped-up sheet masks that you see everywhere, and 10-step rituals promise a glassy, ageless skin. Although this might seem like quite a bit of hard work, it really does give visible results that you will appreciate. And what a lot of people may not know is that, you don't have to follow the elaborate ten steps every day. © Getty Images 5. Micellar Water With origins in French beauty, micellar water is a concoction of purified water, hydraters (like glycerin), and low doses of mild surfactants. Micellar water cleanses oil, and dirt and grime when swiped over the skin with a cotton pad. They work well for acne-prone skin to weed out the oil. So at the end of the day, one good swipe over your face can prevent stubborn acne. View the full article
  7. Summers have passed and if you are assuming that the same grooming rules can be taken forward for winters as well, you are highly mistaken. You will have to swap your summer routine and utilise certain other grooming hacks during the bleak months. From using the right type of sunscreen (Yes, sunscreen) to keeping your face fresh this season, here are five grooming hacks you need to say yes to before winter hits. 1. Shave Post Your Shower Session © iStock Getting a shave before you go for a shower may seem like a good plan because you would save some time, but in a real scenario, especially during winters, you need to up your grooming game a little bit. Your pores will be softer if you shave post your shower. Go with the grain and you will be good to go for the season! 2. Use A Sunscreen © iStock Your skin will thank you if you use a sunscreen even in winters. At any point in time, the UV rays still show their wrath through fog or rains which ultimately leads to skin disasters. For you to not compromise and have a healthy mug, all year long, keep a small bottle of SPF 30 sunscreen handy with you. It will nourish and shield your skin and protect you from the nasty sun. 3. Dandruff Will Be A Big Deal © iStock One of the many negatives of winters is the fact that dandruff becomes a part and parcel of your life. Your scalp will be vulnerable in the cold and it will instantly dry out. There's a way to get rid of the unwanted flakes and it's by using an anti-dandruff shampoo and not using it every day, like you would in summers. Remember to wash it thrice a week and use a conditioner post shampooing, once a week. 4. Wash Your Face Before You Head To Bed © iStock Heading to bed with a clean face and body is very important. The wonders this method can do to your skin the next day is unmissable. Start with splashing some cold water on your face and use a face wash which is mild and made with natural ingredients. Avoid moisturising at night as this will give some space to your skin to breath. 5. If You Have A Beard, Use A Balm © iStock Beard balm adds an extra dose of moisture to your beard and seals the wax. Not just that, it also helps in shaping your beard and moustache and puts together your whole look. It's one of the best remedies during winters. 6. Exfoliation Is The Key © iStock Dry skin will be a bigger problem in winters and you will find yourself scratching more often. It's not the sweater but actually your grooming routine. Swap out your normal bar soap and say yes to a heavy-duty exfoliator. It will help you get rid of dead skin cells, improving the blood circulation in your skin and repair the damage. 7. Never Forget To Carry Your Lip Balm © iStock Your lips will turn dry and chappy in winters and since this is the thinnest skin on your entire body it is important that you keep it protected. Carry a small chapstick with you and use it whenever your lips start feeling dry. View the full article
  8. Until recently, people were only talking about Keanu Reeves being immortal. Actually, they still do. It does not make sense at all for a 55-year-old guy to look hotter and younger than people half his age. Either he's genetically blessed, secretly sipping some magical potion or his doctor's Botox game is super strong. © Reuters Anyway, people were so obsessed with proving that Reeves is immortal that everyone forgot that the actor was also single all this time (for decades, actually). Well, we don't know about the immortality theory, but 'Internet's Boyfriend' is officially off the market now. Folks, this news might hurt some people, but Reeves just went public with his 46-year-old girlfriend, Alexandra Grant and people can't keep calm anymore. © Instagram The couple made their first public appearance at LACMA Art + Film Gala held in Los Angeles, where the couple walked the red carpet holding hands. So, who exactly is Alexandra Grant? Well, here's what we came to know about the woman who stole Reeves' heart: 1. Alexandra is a Los Angeles-based artist. According to reports, Keanu collaborated with her on the books 'Ode To Happiness' (2011) and 'Shadows' (2015). She is often described as "a text-based artist who uses language and networks of words as the basis for her work in painting, drawing and sculpture". © Instagram 2. Keanu and Alexandra started a publishing company together called X Artists' Books in 2017 and have been running it together since. 3. Alexandra is also a philanthropist who founded the grantLOVE project in 2008. The organisation sells products like hoodies and screen prints to raise funds for non-profit organisations and other artists. © Instagram 4. From the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), the Contemporary Museum in Baltimore, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) to the Galerie Gradiva in Paris, Alexandra's work has been featured in major museums across the world. 5. The couple met in 2009 at a party and soon became friends, then business partners and now a couple that's making the whole world burn with jealousy. Source: Hollywood Life View the full article
  9. It's that time of the year where weddings are a grand thing. Every year the wedding industry churns out a ton of good business and apart from people spending lavishly to show off their status, they're also a great chance to meet new people and start new associations. More often than not if you're invited for a wedding, there might be a chance you may not know anyone except the bride and the groom. Especially if you've come alone to join in for the celebrations, it could be a tad tough to push your self-consciousness aside and mingle with the crowd. Approaching a stranger for a conversation at a wedding can give you anxiety and we absolutely understand that, especially if you're an introvert. It takes a lot of self confidence to maybe break the ice with someone because everyone either has a plus one or friends they've come with. (c)BCCl But nothing is impossible and once you break the mould you're pretty good to go. Making friends at a happy, celebratory occasion is a good thing because friends made while having a good time perhaps stay longer in the memory and in life. So, in case you're not with anyone at a wedding and you want to slowly break the ice with people around, here are the three most important things you can do. (1) Look Sharp And Confident Confidence can really kill it for you here. I know you may feel like it's a clichéd advice to give to someone but it really works and if you wear the confidence over your shoulder you wouldn't even have to talk to people, people will come talk to you on an autopilot. For instance, if you want to engage with someone, a woman perhaps, you can approach her and ask her if she's doing fine and needs another drink. Now, if you say that with absolute surety, she will definitely take you up on that offer. Looking shy and timid will not get you anywhere TBH. If that's how you want to present yourself, you might as well click a few pictures with the bride and groom, eat some food and head home! (c)UTV Motion Pictures (2) Have Some Conversation Starters Ready Having an opening line or a conversation starter can help you settle down easier and faster. It's always good to think about what you're going to talk about, if you're socially awkward. For instance, you can brush up on your current affairs and talk about politics to a group of people or just approach someone with a topic in mind or something that will help you open up to an absolute stranger. Knowing you have your steps covered before taking the leap helps ease off the anxiety. (c)Reliance Big Pictures (3) Offer To Help The best way to get to know people is to offer your help for anything that is needed around the wedding. If the bride or the groom know you've come alone they will probably ask you to help just to make you feel a bit more inclusive. It could be escorting people or even help in taking care of the gifts. Whatever you're doing, you'll be around people and there isn't a better opportunity to get to know people than this. (c)Excel Entertainment So, the next time if you find yourself alone at a wedding and feel awkward about it, don't be. Being alone is a state of mind and all you need to do is be comfortable in your skin. Once you crack that, you'll enjoy meeting new people and having the time of your life. View the full article
  10. It's been weeks and people still can't seem to stop talking about Joker and I'm definitely not complaining. The movie was brilliant, Joaquin Phoenix was incredible in it, and it's the kind of movie that stays with you for a while after you watch it. I'm pretty sure people had a lot of questions about the movie after they watched it, but the biggest question that almost everyone had was 'what the hell happened to Sophie?' We saw Sophie and Arthur having a great relationship and he seemed genuinely happy with her, but then came the reveal. It was all in his head! It was one of the best moments of the movie when it was revealed that Arthur imagined the entire relationship he had with Sophie. I mean, I'm kinda glad because they started dating after he followed her everywhere all day. If anyone does that, they don't get a girlfriend, they get a restraining order! Coming back to the scene, we can see that Arthur is almost completely over the edge after his 'bad day' when he shows up at Sophie's apartment and when she's so scared to see him, it's obvious they're nothing more than neighbours. But, the next part was left pretty ambiguous in the movie. Arthur is shown walking in the hallway and we're left in the dark about Sophie's fate. A lot of people were convinced that he killed her since flashing lights can be seen in the distance as he's walking away. Mostly people were adamant that he spared her life since she hasn't done anything to him, she 'didn't deserve' it. And guess what? That's exactly right. Lawrence Sher, the movie's cinematographer, has finally cleared up all the confusion once and for all. In an interview with Slash Film, he said, "We wanted to make the interpretation of the real versus what's not real, a part of the viewer's experience. For instance, his relationship with Sophie is a fantasy to him. Some people have asked me, 'Was she killed?' [Director Todd Phillips] makes it clear she wasn't killed. Arthur is killing people who've wronged him in a certain way, and Sophie never wronged him. In terms of what we did visually to play with the real and not real, there are callbacks and scenes that mirror each other." He added, "We leave hints using imagery or way we covered scenes similarly between scene. Outside of that, I like that people can have a conversation and come to their own conclusions." See, it's a simple answer and it's pretty clear he didn't kill her since he lets Gary go after killing Randall right in front of him in the most gruesome way possible. At the end, he literally spells it out for everyone as well when he says that people 'get what they deserve'. Everyone can finally put the Sophie debate to rest now.
  11. A lot of designers and other manufacturers have toyed with the idea of creating an invisibility cloak. You know, the one from Harry Potter ? Well, a Canadian camouflage manufacturer Hyperstealth Biotechnology is very close to making it happen. The manufacturer has filed a patent for a new material called "Quantum Stealth", which is capable of disguising soldiers and even their artillery like tanks, helicopters, ships and more. How awesome is that! © Hyperstealth According to the patent, the material in question doesn't require a power source and is both paper-thin. It's also inexpensive, making it a really good product altogether. The material apparently works by blending the light around the target to make it disappear. Hyperstealth says their material can block infrared, thermal and ultraviolet signals, thereby making it appear as though the target is invisible. Well, if you don't care about the technicality, then you can head over to this page here to watch the invisibility cloak in action. There's about 100-minutes worth of footage. © Hyperstealth As you can see from the footage, the cloak appears to be doing its job very well. In fact, in some cases, it's almost too good to be true, while in others it seems to have some trouble. But either way, there's no denying that there's a lot of potentials and we could truly be looking at something revolutionary here. With all that being said, it's worth pointing out that what we're looking at is still in patent form and we're far from seeing an actual invisibility cloak in action. That could take a while and even if they start making them, it'll be limited to military use. Source: Futurism
  12. The 74th season of the National Basketball Association or the NBA is set to begin from October 22, and for the first time in a really long period, you do not see one particular “super team” winning the title. The big trades and free agencies in the off season, surprisingly good rookies, and the time to literally heal all the wounds have given the new season a sense of refreshing uncertainty. With the pre-season behind us, here is everything you need to know about the 2019-2020 season of the NBA: Summer Blockbusters: Iconic Trades and Free-Agency Signings: © Instagram - Brooklyn Nets Eight reigning All-Stars: Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Paul George, Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard, D'Angelo Russell, Kemba Walker and Russell Westbrook have changed teams during the offseason. That's the most reigning All-Stars to ever change teams in a single NBA offseason out of which, Durant, Westbrook and Rose have been former 'Most Valuable Players' of the regular season and Durant, Leonard have been former Finals MVP. Three players who were All-Stars in 2018 but not in 2019 namely Jimmy Butler, DeMarcus Cousins and Al Horford too will be seen in colours different from the previous year. Dynamic Duos (players to look out for): © Reuters After an era of title-hungry all-star players coming together to form the so called “super-team” the league has finally moved on to a comparatively more interesting and competitive era, that of dynamic duos: â Los Angeles Lakers: Lebron James and Anthony Davis â Los Angeles Clippers: Paul George and Kawhi Leonard â Brooklyn Nets: Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving â Houston Rockets: Russell Westbrook and James Harden â Dallas Mavericks: Luka DonÄiÄ and Kristaps Porzingis Legacies To Follow: â Battle: Los Angeles Ever since the Los Angeles Clippers came into existence 50 years ago, they have been branded as “ that other LA team”, simply because of the legacy that the Lakers have had in the past 72 years. And then there's also the fact that the Lakers have won 16 titles while the Clippers have won none. © Reuters However, this off-season has made the Clippers relevant once again. The critics and basketball pundits from all over the world even believe that this “other LA Team” might just become “The LA Team” this season and win their maiden NBA title thanks to the inclusion of last season's MVP candidate Paul George and the 2019 NBA Finals MVP and Champion Kawhi Leonard. Also, we have the new and upgraded Lakers side led by the powerful duo of Lebron James and Anthony Davis. © Reuters Having been well rested for over 200 days after missing the playoffs for the first time in 14 years, a 34-year-old James looks to get back to his winning ways and win his fourth NBA title. A hungry Anthony Davis in his prime alongside a brilliant but highly underrated supporting roster led by Danny Green, would be crucial in this rivalry between the two LA teams. â Lebron James' Return To The Finals? © Reuters Albeit the 3-6 losing record in the NBA Finals, the mere fact that he Akron-born star made it to eight consecutive finals is impressive. So when during his first season in the Lakers' purple and gold, he missed out on making it to the playoffs, many believed that the King's reign is over. However with the time to recover after years and years of gruelling seasons during which the team would look up to him in the moment of need, James can finally give the driver's seat to Anthony Davis and focus more on ball distribution and play-making. With a comparatively young and more talented team as compared to his Cleveland days, Lebron's second season with the Lakers surely brings a great opportunity for the King to not only make it to the NBA Finals but win it all. â Steph Curry's MVP Campaign © Reuters One of the key ingredients behind winning the MVP award is narrative and Stephen Curry, the man who revolutionised the game of basketball with his ability to score from beyond the arc, has just the narrative to win him that trophy. With Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala parting ways with the Golden State Warriors, Shaun Livingston retiring and Klay Thompson going down with a severe ACL tear during last season's finals and out of action for at least nine months, Curry will have to once again take charge a team which is not that “super” anymore. Sure he has Draymond Green and D'Angelo Russell by his side to begin the season with, but after losing the roster that helped him win three titles in an instant, has to have a major impact on the shooter's performance. If he somehow manages to make it to the top four of the Western Conference teams by the end of the regular season, the case for him becoming the MVP once again will improve vastly. Opening Day: The regular season's opening day will witness two matches: 1. Toronto Raptors Vs New Orleans Pelicans © Reuters As they celebrate their 25th season, the Raptors figure to embrace the “defending NBA champions as underdogs” perception. Being dismissed or discounted applies to many of the team's players, including the late-blooming Kyle Lowry, No. 27 pick Pascal Siakam, No. 48 pick Marc Gasol and the undrafted Fred VanVleet. © Reuters New Orleans is one of the NBA's most intriguing teams, thanks to a dramatic offseason overhaul. The offseason included the addition of No. 1 overall draft pick Zion Williamson who is one of the most highly anticipated NBA rookies in recent memory with names like Jrue Holiday, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball by his side. 2. LA Clippers Vs LA Lakers © Reuters The Clippers have never reached the Conference Finals, but expectations are high with All-Stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George joining several returning players from last season's 48-win team. However, George will miss the start of the season as he recovers from offseason surgery on both shoulders. © Reuters The Lakers are seen as a potential championship contender with Anthony Davis by their side. They have missed the playoffs in each of the last six seasons, tied for the NBA's third-longest active drought. Before this stretch, the Lakers had missed the playoffs five times in 65 seasons. 13. With the rising levels of pollution in the capital, the Delhi government has decided to implement the long gone odd-even scheme once again. It's also done to curb the traffic situation post festivities in the city and lord knows we need it, especially right now. Last time the odd-even scheme had a certain effect on the traffic and the air when it was implemented and this time around we hope it works even better. The scheme will be implanted from November 4 to November 15, 2019. © BCCL The first implementation of the scheme was in January 2016, and it was re-implemented again in April 2016 by the Aam Aadmi Party. Although the basic crux of the scheme remains the same, there are a few changes here and there you should know about before it comes into action from 8am to 8pm, every day. (1) Two-Wheelers Will Be Exempted All two-wheelers will be exempted from the rule, but only during peak hours - 8am to 11am and then again from 5pm to 8pm. Beyond these timings, the odd-even rule will be applied to two-wheelers too. So, if you commute by a two-wheeler on most days, make sure to do so during peak hours. © india Today (2) Women & People With Disabilities Exempted Women drivers, women driving with kids in their cars who are less than 12 YO, cars with all women occupants and people with disabilities are exempted from this scheme too. Maybe it's unfair for some of you, but that's the law! © New York Times (3) Private CNG Vehicles Will Not Be Exempted Unlike 2016, this time, private CNG vehicles will not be exempted from the odd-even scheme. © The Hindu (4) Vehicles From Outside Delhi Will Not Be Exempted Any car or even two-wheeler coming from outside Delhi, i.e. even Haryana and U.P. will not be exempted. Once you enter the city, the rules apply to any and every private vehicle. © BCCL (5) Vehicles Carrying School Kids Will Be Exempted Vehicles ferrying kids from schools will be exempted from the rule because kids are our future, so why not! © BCCL (6) Increase Of Violation Fine The New Motor Vehicle Act has stated that those not adhering to the new odd-even scheme will be fined INR 4,000, double of what was fined back in 2016. © Delhi Traffic Police Lastly, a good piece of news for frequent cab commuters, the cab aggregator Uber has decided to do away with surge pricing during the time the odd-even scheme is applicable! So, go crazy over booking an Uber and ditch your cars for a while.
  14. Cricketers marrying actors and cricketers turning into actors are two developments which keep making headlines every year in this country. However, it is not every year we read about big names from the Indian Cricket team leaving the ball and bat to face the camera and put on the actor's hat themselves. The latest cricketers, well, veteran players, who were bitten by the acting bug are Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh who will soon be making their debut in Tamil cinema. © Instagram In a surprising turn of events, the two announcements came back to back and surprised and shocked fans in equal measure. 15. Here's some mid-week news that'll probably kill that dullness you all have been spiralling down into, voluntarily. Especially for those humans who can thrive on mainstream cinema like their life depends on it, because this news is like cold drinking water in the middle of a vast desert for them. The fourth instalment of Matrix is officially happening, with some old and new actors in the loop and we can't keep our cool any longer. We've all grown up watching the trilogy and if there is something to take away from the series, it's the thought-provoking pieces of sci-fi it has given us, over the last decade. © shortlist So, let's list down everything we know so far, everything we've recently found out and everything else that's left in the realms of speculation, about Matrix 4: (1) Who Is Coming Back Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as the hacker Neo, in the fourth instalment, alongside another cast member, Carrie-Ann Moss, and we can't wait to watch what they have in store for us in the fourth edition. The movie will be directed by co-creator Lana Wachowski who will also write and produce the film. Given Trinity and Neo's fates at the end of the original Matrix trilogy, the sequel will need to find an intelligent way to incorporate their roles into the new story. But I guess that shouldn't be too difficult for a series that's all about virtual reality, mysticism and, of course, some massive plot twists! © Warner Bros Apart from Keanu and Carrie, we have someone else amidst us who was announced to be part of the franchise this month. TBH, he's quite legen...wait for it...dary! Yup, How I Met Your Mother and Gone Girl actor, Neil Patrick Harris has also joined the cast in an unidentified role. We're not sure what role he's been offered but it's definitely Harris's first big film. © Movieweb Apart from Harris, the film also stars Aquaman's Black Manta, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, in a significant lead role. We believe he plays the younger version of Morpheus, the role that was originally played by Lawrence Fishburne in the Matrix series. We also recently found out that Jada Pinkett Smith is in current negotiations to return to the franchise. She played the role of Niobe in parts 2 and 3, The Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions and from what we've heard, she's not done with the role. For now, we're still waiting for confirmation on this but it'll be a happy little reunion to have her back in the cast. © deadlien (2) Who Isn't Coming Back Sadly enough the OG Morpheus, aka Lawrence Fishburne, has decided he does not need more Matrix in his life and wants to sit this one out. Which also means the pivotal role of Morpheus will be recast. Wanna take any wild guesses on who, in all probability, will take up the character? Also, the original producer, Joel Silver will not be working on the new Matrix movie. We're really bummed about Fishburne's absence though. © Warner Bros (3) What's The Plot? “Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I'm very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends,” Lana Wachowski said in the official announcement at a press conference. © Warner Bros Well, to make the theme more relevant for Matrix 4, whatever has happened in the past twenty years is under consideration or at least there is a slight flashback mention of the events that occurred in the earlier series. So far, we know that the main Matrix theme is definitely back and in some way, it paraphrases the other revolutionary franchise, John Wick, with changing political landscapes and digital existences. Also, Reddit has come with a rather interesting theory and you should give it a read. (4) When Is It Releasing? The release date hasn't been announced for the next Matrix instalment but it's definitely not too far off since the production of the film will begin somewhere early 2020. So far, we're not sure if the other Wachowski sibling be involved in Matrix 4, although Warner Brothers seem to think the franchise is safe in Lana's hands. © NBCNews “We could not be more excited to be reentering The Matrix with Lana. She is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing, and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe.” - said Warner Bros Picture Group Chairman, Toby Emmerich in an interview. © Warner Bros While we thought the curtains had closed on the entire Matrix franchise, we're so glad we get to see a lot more from the same universe, something every virtual geek will be really looking forward to! Here's waiting with bated breath for one of the best sci-fi movies out there.

  18. Rains have been playing spoilsport in a wide majority of matches played in this year's edition of the ICC World Cup 2019. With 4 of the matches to be played in the World Cup already washed out, fans are increasingly concerned about what the rules are regarding rain and washouts. As per ICC guidelines, all matches are expected to wrap up within an 8 hour-long period and match officials are expected to follow due process regarding abandoning of a match. If conditions improve within this 8 hour period, a pitch inspection determines whether a game can start or resume and if so, then within how much time. If conditions do not improve or if the pitch is not worthy of a game of cricket, the match is abandoned. Reserve days for matches in the group stages have not been implemented this year and this resulted in World Cup chief David Richardson to weigh in on the issue. "Factoring in a reserve day for every match at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup would significantly increase the length of the tournament and practically would be extremely complex to deliver." Statement from David Richardson â¬ï¸ https://t.co/OEOXAJ4h8h — ICC (@ICC) June 11, 2019 Richardson claimed that the resulting longevity of the tournament and external factors like pitch preparation, venue availability, staffing, etc. make reserve days very difficult to incorporate. There is also no guarantee whether the rain will not interfere with matches in reserve days as well. “Factoring in a reserve day for every match at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup would significantly increase the length of the tournament and practically would be extremely complex to deliver,” he said. © Reuters This year's World Cup is also the first to feature a Super Over in cases of rain delays and match abandonments in the semi-final and final stage. In case of extreme weather conditions, it is once again at the discretion of the match officials whether to hold the Super Over at the official time which is 10 minutes after the game, or at a later time. Also weighing in on the debate of whether this was the wrong time to host a huge international competition in England, Richardson said in his statement, “this is extremely unseasonable weather. In the last couple of days we have experienced more than twice the average monthly rainfall for June which is usually the third driest month in the UK.” Whether or not the rules, scheduling and guidelines are appropriate is up for debate, but no cricket fan wants to see highly anticipated and exciting matches being abandoned due to rain.
  19. Sudan has seen a lot of turmoil and instability since June 2019, when the military first ousted the long-term ruling president Omar-Al-Bashir. It all started way back in December 2018, when the ruling president's government imposed emergency austerity methods in order to do away with an inevitable economic collapse. © BBC This led to a severe political crisis, which in turn made the security forces open fire on pro-democracy protestors in Khartoum. While the protest was peacefully handled, according to the New York Times, as many as 100 people have been killed and about 326 injured. At least 100 peaceful protesters were killed during a military crackdown in Sudan — now the country is at a standstill pic.twitter.com/AK0mPNkG8U — NowThis (@nowthisnews) 12 June 2019 The protestors are demanding a civilian-led interim government and since then, representatives of the protests have been in talks with the military, determining who takes control of authority. But the situation has bled for way too long now and according to the Central Committee of Sudan Doctors, at least 40 bodies were recovered from the river Nile. But How Did It All Begin? Well, the protests started in December 2018 to overthrow the President. Cuts were made to bread and fuel subsidies which sparked protests in the east over the standard of living and ultimately, they reached to the capital Khartoum. The protestors obviously demanded Bashir's government to be thrown out, who had been in power for 30 years. The protests finally reached a conclusion on April 6, when people occupied the square in front of the military headquarters and demanded that the army fight the president out of his rule. Almost 5 days later, the military announced the president was no longer in power. © BBC Women played a main role in the protests, with 22-year-old Alaa Saleh leading the group. Even though a woman was the face of the protestors, as many as 70 women were raped by the police and the paramilitary forces during an attack at the protest camp, while some protestors were shot at, on June 3rd. #SudanMassacre What is happening in Sudan? This is so bad. pic.twitter.com/fMvdiKlUB3 — jafar badi (@BadiJafar) 13 June 2019 So, Now Who Is In Charge? A council of generals took over on April 11 but there was a lot of struggle for the country to regain normalcy, in every sense of the word. The seven-member Transitional Military Council is led by Lt-Gen Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Burhan and they insist they need to be in charge to bring everything back to normalcy again. But unfortunately, the army is not a unified force in the country and a lot of paramilitary organisations and Islamic militia have also taken up authority there. For now, the streets of Sudan are deserted with a complete Internet blackout in the country. The United Nations has condemned the attacks and The Human Rights Council has been called about to probe an inquiry into the Human Rights violations committed by the military in Sudan. Schools, hospitals and health centres in #Sudan have been targeted, looted and destroyed. Health workers have been attacked simply for doing their job. To save children's lives, the violence must stop. #ChildrenUnderAttack pic.twitter.com/A6VbGI6aGo — UNICEF (@UNICEF) 13 June 2019 Who Exactly Is The Opposition? Even though the economic collapse brought the Sudanese from all walks of life to the streets, the demonstration organisation was taken over by The Sudanese Professionals Association, a collaboration of doctors, lawyers and health workers. The protestors are local people across all age groups but most of them are young people, fighting for their rights. When the military finally took power in April, the protestors stood outside Military Headquarters demanding the authority to be given to a civilian administration. The civilian group of protestors and the ruling generals, who come under the umbrella group 'Alliance For Freedom and Change', eventually came to an agreement. © Twitter What Did They Agree On? Both the Civilian Administration and the Military decided on a three-year-transition period to civilian rule. An agreement was reached on May 15, 2019. The protestors claim that Bashir's regime is so deeply planted and implemented that a long transition is needed to completely uproot his political network and allow fair democratic elections again. The two sides also agreed on a new government, including a sovereign council, a cabinet and a legislative body. © Twitter But unfortunately, the military leaders didn't stick to their decisions and scrapped the agreements reached to set up a fresh elections mandate within nine months. The TMC head decided to stop negotiating with the Alliance For Freedom and Change and cancel whatever had been agreed on. In the wake of this fresh agreement, the pro-democracy leaders said they were cutting all contacts with the TMC and called for a 'total civil disobedience' and a general strike. While the strikes were called off on June 11, which almost brought Khartoum to a standstill, most African and Western countries have backed the protestors. Saudi Arabia has urged discussion on both sides but not condemned the military. © Twitter After the strikes have been pulled away, protest leaders are willing to resume power-sharing talks with the ruling military council. “The Alliance for Freedom and Change agreed to end the civil disobedience from today. Both sides have also agreed to resume talks soon." Mahmoud Drir, the official mediator made a statement about the situation. We just hope both the parties reach a common consensus and peace is restored in Sudan, especially in Khartoum, really soon.

Kartik became the national crush just after his debut with 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama' and from that point on, there was no stopping him. The star is basking right now in his much-deserved glory after the success of his films like 'Luka Chuppi', 'Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety' and 'Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2'. 22. They say free goodies always taste better than the stuff we have to pay for. That isn't always true, though. When life gives us lemons, no matter how costless they might be, the lemonade still tastes like shit. So, earlier today when the Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) Chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that women in the national capital will be 'entitled' to free rides on Delhi Metro, DTC and cluster buses, the announcement left a sour taste in our mouth (pun intended). A large number of female commuters who use public transportation on a regular basis are thrilled by this news, while others are also concerned about the chaos this would unleash, with problems stemming from overcrowding and people management on buses and metros. © Twitter However, that being said, at first glance, it does seem like a great move to encourage more women to use public transportation, but we fail to fathom how this is going to better the pressing issues related to women's safety in the state? Giving every woman free access to metro and buses in no way helps ensure that women will really be safe from abuse, molestation or rape. In fact, it only makes them more vulnerable to other kinds of inconvenience such as theft and difficulties that arise from overcrowding. Women might still get stalked, cat-called and assaulted once they get off the metro and buses, so, sorry, but Kejriwal's reasoning behind this 'free ride' move does nothing to endure women's safety. © Twitter Yet, the major question still remains: Are 'special' privileges the only way of ensuring women's safety? “I remember when the women's compartment was introduced on metros, men seem to hate the special treatment women received, and have often lashed out at women who travel in the general compartments 'despite having an entire compartment to themselves'. Thanks, but we can pay for our rides, spare us the chaos,” says 28-year-old Dutee. The overarching sentiment shared by women who can afford to pay for the tickets is that this step is unnecessary for a number of reasons. However, for those who may not be as privileged, this surely comes as a great relief and there is no denying that fact. Regardless of the money in their pockets, women will now be able to get from one place to another without being bothered by the monetary aspects (especially in times of dire need). Now women can travel free of cost in Delhi metro and DTC bus...there was already reserved seats everywhere for women....I don't understand what kind of equality is this between men and women?..Then why everyone said that लडà¤à¤¾ लडà¤à¥ à¤à¤ समान?? — pranav sangal (@pranavsangal4) June 3, 2019 34-year-old Neetu, who works as a house help in South Delhi, wasn't even aware that something of the sort is in the pipeline for Delhi women. But once she was informed, she was beyond relieved and said, “I avoid taking the metro unless I really have to, and the same goes for AC buses. But if this new rule really comes to pass, I won't have to think twice before taking them when I am travelling long distances within the city. It would make life so easy. I hope they can make it happen.” These are two diverse sets of female commuters who hit the roads every day and have different standpoints on Kejriwal's proposal, which will reportedly take another three months to get implemented. While there are genuine pros and cons to this proposal presented by the AAP government, there is no denying that another segment of women are still questioning why women 'always' have to be given special benefits for their “safety”, which again takes away from the larger movement towards equality. © Twitter “This will set back womenfolk and the feminist movement in the country yet again. We need better and stronger ways of safeguarding women's security. Special incentives do nothing more than make men loathe women for “all the things they get easily” and “get away with” simply because they belong to a particular gender,” observes Snigdha, a college student who regularly uses public transport. On certain levels, this somehow also reeks of vote-bank politics by the AAP government. After failing to bag even a single Lok Sabha seat in the recently concluded elections, this almost seems like a desperate move by the Kejriwal government to get into the good books of the female population in Delhi. What for? Are we Delhi Women not considered capable enough to pay for tickets? Is this empowerment in your understanding??! Delhi Metro, bus rides likely to be free of cost for women - India News https://t.co/cdAX2YVXlu — Pragya Rathore (@pragsrats) June 2, 2019 We certainly wish the Kejriwal government could come out with more concrete ways to deal with the vital issue of women's safety in the city. While this might help to a certain extent, the impending chaos is almost palpable. We wonder if this move to warm up to women in the region will help AAP in salvaging its sorry state of affairs, ahead of the State Assembly Elections in 2020.
  23. Those who have seen the trailer of 'Kabir Singh' featuring Shahid Kapoor would have an idea that something great is in store for them. As soon as the teaser of 'Kabir Singh' was unveiled, Twitter users began comparing it to the Vijay-starrer 'Arjun Reddy'. Fans are excited to see Shahid on the big screen and nail this character to its fullest. But guess what? Shahid wasn't the first choice for the role. It was Arjun Kapoor. Yes, you heard it right. Director Sandeep Vanga, in an interview with Mumbai Mirror, confirmed that he had approached Arjun for the role initially. When the director was asked if the makers approached Arjun Kapoor, he said, “Yeah, but before that Shahid and I were already in talks, so I couldn't just jump to another actor It's not about whose acting caliber is greater but it's about the commitment.” Well, we wonder what would it have been to see Arjun play this character. Coming back to Shahid, he has left no stone unturned to get into this character and the trailer has created the right noise for the film. Watch the trailer here: The film's story revolves around a surgeon whose life changes completely after a bad breakup. He uses drugs and alcohol to get over the pain that break-up has caused him. The film also features Kiara Advani in lead role and is set to release on June 21. It will be interesting to see how the movie shapes up. Are you excited for this one? 24. Grooming down there can be tricky business. It can also be rather intimidating for someone trying to groom down there for the first time. Did you know that there is a list of things that you should keep in mind before you groom down there? And the thing is, these things will make a substantial difference to your grooming routine. 1. Always Disinfect Your Razor/Trimmer Before Use © Getty Images Start with rinsing off the blades with hot water. Then, add a small dollop of dish soap to the blades, and scrub the razor with a toothbrush to remove any grime present. Finish with washing the soap off the razor using hot water. Rinse off the blades with hot water. If you want to go a step further, you could apply a cleaning agent like rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. 2. Start Off With Scissors © Getty Images You can start off with trimming your pubic hair. This not only cuts your time to half in terms of using a trimmer or a razor but also streamlines the approach. 3. It's Best To Keep It Uniform It looks a little funny if you groom down there but let your chest hair be or the other way. If you've booked yourself a grooming session or scheduled time for it at home, make sure you go all the way. 4. Take A Shower Before © Getty Images Taking a shower helps in more ways than one. Firstly, it makes the whole process hassle-free and secondly, the after shave skin will be extremely smooth to touch. 5. Use Rash Creams Generously © Getty Images Rash creams are a blessing to humanity in general. Two pumps of a rash cream can save you from itching and razor burns later. 6. Use Gel-Based Razors © Getty Images If you prefer razors to clean up, you should probably prefer gel-based razor that comes with lubrication with aloe vera or any other soothing agent that quickens the process of cleaning down there.
