  2. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our lives in more ways than one. Even after months of lockdown, the virus is still lurking around in the various parts of the world, making it hard for us to get back to our day-to-day lives. But it looks like we finally have some good news. According to a new report, it looks like India's first indigenous COVID-19 could be ready for public use by August 15. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has asked medical institutions and hospitals to expedite clinical trials for the vaccine. © Reuters If everything goes to the plan, then it looks like the vaccine will be made available to the public by August 15 2020. Here's everything that you need to know: Joining Hands With BBIL ICMR has partnered with Bharat Biotech International Limited (BBIL) for the clinical trials of this indigenous vaccine 'Covaxin' for the coronavirus disease. A total of 12 institutes have been selected for the clinical trial. Trial Locations © Reuters These institutes are located in Visakhapatnam, Rohtak, New Delhi, Patna, Belgaum (Karnataka), Nagpur, Gorakhpur, Kattankulathur (Tamil Nadu), Hyderabad, Arya Nagar, Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), Goa, and Bhubaneswar-based Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital. Top Priority Right Now ICMR Director-General Dr Balram Bhargava noted that this is one of the "top priority projects which is being monitored at the top-most level of the government". The vaccine was developed and manufactured in Bharat Biotech's facility located in Genome Valley in Hyderabad. Another Vaccine In Development © Reuters Meanwhile, another candidate is also being developed Ahmedabad-based Zydus Cadila Healthcare. It's also considered to be a potential vaccine candidate, however, we don't have much about it just yet. The First Vaccine To Receive Approval The 'Covaxin' has become the first candidate developed in India to receive the Drug Controller General of India's approval to enter human trials. 3. There has been a lot of buzz about Jio's new teleconferencing app. But it's official now and it's available to download from both the Google Play Store as well as the App Store. It's indeed called JioMeet and it's here to compete with the likes of Zoom, Skype, Google Meet, and more. Anyway, to help you understand how the app works, we've compiled a short list of things to know about the app: 1. Up To 100 Participants © JioMeet JioMeet supports direct calls as well as group meetings with up to 100 participants in a call. It's super easy to either create a new meeting or just join an existing one with an invite code. It's very similar to how you'd join a meeting on, say, Zoom or Google Meet. 2. Free To Use JioMeet is completely free to use. The app is available to download for free from the Google Play Store as well as the App Store. Once you download that, you can create an unlimited number of meetings per day. These meetings can also be password protected and there are waiting rooms in the meeting too. 3. Easy To Use Interface © JioMeet JioMeet has an easy-to-use interface and we don't think you'll have any difficulty navigating around the app and using it. There are different tabs at the bottom of the app for each setting and the app isn't overly cluttered with options. You'll easily be able to find what you need. 4. Multi-Device Support JioMeet supports multi-device support, which means you can log in on up to 5 devices at the same time and switch between them seamlessly. You can even switch between the device while being on a call. © MensXP/Karthik Iyer 5. Safe Driving Mode & Other Features JioMeet also has a feature called Safe Driving Mode, which is pretty much self-explanatory. You also get other standard features like screen-sharing. 5. After NH 10, Pari, Phillauri, and Paatal Lok, we are very much convinced that Anushka Sharma has an eye for great content. Well, it's time everything has moved to OTT platforms and Anushka is following the wave. With Paatal Lok, she conquered the web and the response to her series was crazy on Twitter and other social media platforms. Now, the actor has teamed up with Netflix for one more original venture, a film titled Bulbbul. Anushka took to Twitter to share the teaser of her next original movie and wrote, "Here's your first look at #Bulbbul, a fantastic tale about self-discovery, and justice, wrapped in lore, mystery, and intrigue, coming soon on @NetflixIndia. Can't wait to share more!" It does look exciting but not much is revealed in the teaser. Just like us, we are sure that you all are also left wanting for more. Times have certainly changed as women producers and directors have taken the charge of telling stories and this one is a prime example of it. If you loved Avinash Tiwari and Tripti Dimri in the modern version of Laila Majnu, then you are in for a treat as the magical pair is all set to tell you one more tale. We have loved them in their debut film and we are sure that this time too, they will leave their mark. 2. The movie falls into a supernatural horror genre and it will be nice to see how Anushka, after Pari, brings in something new on the table. 3. Well, the story, according to Netflix, is 'an Indian fable set in 20th Century Bengal. The film traverses the journey of a young girl, Bulbbul from innocence to strength, as the legend of a âchudailâ casts a looming shadow over her [Bulbbulâs] world'. 4. With Bulbbul, Anvitta Dutt, a lyricist and dialogue writer is making her debut as a director. If you don't know about Anvitta, she is the one behind songs like Khuda Jaane, London Thumakda, and many other popular numbers. That being said, hereâs all that you need to know about the many health benefits of drinking tea. __ECOMLOOKS__711__ __ECOMLOOKS__712__ __ECOMLOOKS__713__ __ECOMLOOKS__714__ __ECOMLOOKS__715__ Explore More View the full article
  7. Xiaomi is an extremely popular brand in India. However, the company is mostly known for its affordable phones than anything else. But did you know that Xiaomi sells a ton of really cool products overseas? Some of these gadgets are so good that you won't think twice before dropping all your money on them. Here's a quick list of products we wish were available in India. Note: Xiaomi sells a lot of these products under its sub-brand, so you may not see the "Xiaomi" branding on most of these gadgets. Wine Bottle Opener © Xiaomi Xiaomi's automatic wine bottle opener is one of the most sophisticated products we've ever seen. Using it is so convenient that there's almost no excuse to not buy it. All you got to do is align it with bottle, press the open button, and press down forcefully to open the bottle. It's as simple as that. If only it was available in India. It only costs $26.99, which is roughly about Rs 2,100. Smart Rear View Mirror © Xiaomi The rear view mirror is probably one of the most important parts of your car. Imagine having a smart rear view mirror that can make your life a lot easier. The one from Xiaomi sports an 8.8-inch display and it comes with a ton of features like GPS, Full HD video recording, 3G/4G connectivity, lane departure warnings, and more. It's as good as it gets. You can find a good deal for this on the internet and get it for around Rs 15,000. That's not too bad for your car. Mi Key © Xiaomi This is probably one of the most underrated Xiaomi products. The Mi Key, besides acting as a dust plug for your phone's headphone jack, also gives you a new button that can be reassigned to pretty much anything like opening up the camera, launching certain apps, etc. It's a no brainer if your phone has a headphone jack. You can grab it for as low as $1, so it's not going to cost you more than Rs 100. Xiaomi TDS Pen © Xiaomi This particular Xiaomi device would be of great use to people living in areas with sub-standard drinking water. It's a device that can be dipped inside the water to calculate the total dissolved solids in it. Really cool, isn't it? As for the price, you can grab one of these for just around Rs 700, which isn't too bad considering how useful it is. Xiaomi AI Translator © Xiaomi If you are someone who tends to travel a lot, then you'd absolutely love this gadget. It's an AI translator that can translate into 14 different languages in realtime. It also has a super sleek design, so it's easy and convenient to carry as well. You can get a good deal on the internet for this and get one for as low as Rs 5,000. There are a ton of other really cool products from Xiaomi but we couldn't possibly fit all of them here, so be sure to let us know about the ones you know. View the full article
  8. When it comes to menâs grooming, beard shaping and beard care is the most essential part. Growing or maintaining a beard is surely not an easy task. However, with some help from the right beard grooming products and beard shaping tools, you can easily beat your unruly beard. From electric razors to beard trimmers, there are so many beard grooming products and tools in the market to choose from. Here is the only guide you will need on beard tools and how to use them. © iStock Beard Care Tools Taking care of your beard is not only about styling it, but also about keeping it clean and healthy. For this you will need to develop a beard care routine and use the right beard care products. Apart from the products you also need to have the right beard tool kit. © iStock To begin with, you will need beard care tools like a beard brush and a beard comb. These two are absolute essentials for every man with a beard longer than an inch. Trust us, you will need a detangler if you are growing or deciding to grow a beard. A beard brush is great for shaping as well, whereas a comb is great for detangling alone. If your beard is extremely dry, refrain using the brush for detangling as it can make your beard look frizzy. Another great tool is a hair dryer. Yes, you can use the same hair dryer that you use for your hair on your beard. It will shape and style your beard like magic. Beard Shaping Tools Where beard care tools are all about beard hygiene and care, beard shaping tools are what you will need on a daily basis. These will help you in styling and shaping the beard as well as caring for it. Scissors The simplest, most popular and the easiest of all beard shaping tools are a pair of scissors. They are a must in every manâs beard tool kit. For men with full beards, a simple pair of scissors can be the most useful in times of emergencies. However, make sure to keep a separate pair for your beard grooming routine. Also, sharing beard tools is a big no. It can pass on skin infections and is definitely not hygienic. © iStock Trimmers A beard trimmer is a saviour for men in the modern times. You can trim your beard at home and as per your preference. For men who arenât confident with their shaving skills, a trimmer can be easier to use in emergencies. There are many different varieties of this and we will discuss each one. Beard Trimmer: The most commonly used, a beard trimmer is the regular trimmer that will clean up your beard. It comes with different guard sizes that will help you achieve the desired look. Do prior research if youâre grooming for the first time, using a trimmer . This device is perfect for achieving any length of beard as you desire. © iStock Electric Shaver: As the name suggests, an electric shaver will shave off your beard completely instead of only trimming it. An electric shaver comes in two varieties - dry shaver and wet shaver. As is clear by the name, a dry shaver will give you a clean shave without water or shaving foam. A wet shaver on the other hand allows you to use water and shaving cream. Most men feel their skin rejects the dry shavers because of the harshness. If youâre new to electric shaving, stick to wet shavers initially. © iStock Clippers: Hair clippers are great for precision shaping. They are similar to a beard trimmer but clean off larger chunks of hair. They are mostly used while cutting and styling hair. As a hack, you can use a hair clipper for a close trim for your beard as well. © iStock Beard Razors Razors are by far the most popular beard shaping tool for men. You would know what we are talking about if you like your clean shaved look more than anything else. However, there are so many different varieties of razors to choose from. Donât worry, here is all that you need to know about them. Cartridge Razors: A cartridge razor is by far a favourite of most men. It has mostly three sets of blades (or more) and a flexible head. These features make it super easy for regular shavers to achieve a clean and a close shave. The cartridge on the razor can be replaced when the blades turn dull. __ECOMPRODUCT__304__ __ECOMPRODUCT__305__ © iStock Safety Razors: One of the older types of razors, a safety razor has a protective layer that comes in between your skin and the blade. A full blade is placed inside this razor. It also needs regular cleaning, which is super easy with its detachable parts. © iStock Straight Razors: Another one of the older kinds, a straight razor is an open blade attached to a handle. It has no protective features and requires a great set of skills. These razors were traditionally used only by barbers and stay unpopular amongst the common men even now. © iStock Disposable Razors: Unlike a cartridge razor, a disposable razor has its head and body attached permanently. It can be used only once or twice, hence the name. It isnât as durable as the rest of the razors on the list. __ECOMPRODUCT__274__ __ECOMPRODUCT__300__ © iStock Now that you know the basics of beard styling and beard tools, you can confidently begin your beard journey. Invest in the right beard products and put your worries to rest! Explore More View the full article
  9. MCU action director Sam Hargraveâs latest release Extraction hit Netflix on April 24 - featuring plenty of balls-to-the-wall action, awesome performances from Indian actors such as Randeep Hooda and last but not least, Chris Hemsworth himself as Tyler Rake, a near-unstoppable black-market merc with a heart of gold. Cast alongside Hemsworth as Tylerâs handler and primary contact Nik, Iranian-born actress Golshifteh Farahani makes an appearance in this film, and if you think she seems familiar, youâd be right - sheâs got her own storied filmography that dates back all the way to 1998, and is one hell of a formidable talent in her own right. Here are a few surprising details on one of the filmâs hidden gems. Beginnings As A Child Actor © Farabi Cinema Foundation Born in Tehran in 1983, Farahaniâs relationship with acting began at the tender age of 6 when she was introduced to the challenge and prestige of theatre acting - a passion that sheâs kept close to date. However, it was at the age of 14 that she acted in her first film The Pear Tree (1998), for which she won the prize for the Best Actress from the international section of the Fajr film festival, immediately cementing her as one of Iranian cinemaâs rising new talents. Actingâs In Her Blood © Twitter @Ansherli20 Behzad Farahani, Golshifteh's father, is an actor and screenwriter himself. Golshiftehâs mother, Fahimeh Rahimnia, is also an actress and her sister, Shaghayegh Farahani, is in the business too. It only made sense for Golshifteh to continue in the family business, so to speak, even if her talents took her out of Iran as she began to explore roles in other countries, including the United States. Not Just An Actress © MACT Productions Aside from her pretty successful career in acting, Farahani has also dabbled quite seriously in music. Her underground rock band Kooch got the first prize at the 2nd Tehran Avenue Underground Rock Festival in 2003. Rock music and women singing are banned in Iran. Sheâs even melded together both talents - in her extremely well-acclaimed role in the 2007âs controversial The Music Man, Farahani plays the piano as part of her performance. Hollywood Presence © Amazon Studios Farahaniâs long list of roles isnât just limited to poignant and beautifully crafted Persian films - sheâs also taken on appearances in everything from major summer blockbusters to romcoms. Youâll find her in films such as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Exodus: Gods & Kings alongside Aaron Paul and Christian Bale - while she played a lighter role alongside Adam Driver in 2016âs heartfelt drama, Paterson. Political Activism © Entertainment One One reason why Farahaniâs filmography gradually tapers away from her Iranian homeland is the deeply orthodox and inflexible state bureaucracy of Iran, which prohibits several freedoms of speech, particularly with respect to women. After she appeared nude in films and photoshoots, Iranian officials spoke out against her and it was reported that she had been effectively banned from the country. © Inforg-M & M Film Kft Speaking out against her exile, she said in a 2012 statement, âExile is like death. You cannot understand it until it happens to you. The whole world wants to see you as a victim and they push you to be even more a victim because they see you miserable and they feel good.â The actress has also taken on a role in Girls of the Sun, portraying the lives of Kurdish female insurgency fighters - a heavily political issue within the Middle East. With Extraction taking another notch in her long career, we canât wait to see her next appearance in film - perhaps a return to some of the touching dramas weâve seen before? View the full article
  10. Earlier today, Facebook announced hat it has invested a huge chunk of money to fuel the expansion of JioMart. But what exactly is JioMart and how is this going to help any of us? Well, here's everything that you need to know. What Is JioMart?JioMart is essentially an online marketplace that connects retailers to consumers. In simple terms, it's a portal where the retailers will list their products for the consumers to browse through and purchase online. JioMart, however, won't have any warehouses of its own unlike, say, Amazon or Flipkart. Instead, it'll allow local merchants or Kirana stores to list their products on the portal. You can simply browse and pick the items you like and buy them online. © Reuters Jio, as we all know, is known for luring customers with attractive offers. The telecom operator made a huge splash in the market back in the day when it launched for the time in 2016. Since then, Jio has now grown to become the #1 telecom operator with most subscribers in the country. So, obviously, we can expect some really crazy deals here. The website says "Never seen before savings" already, so we can only expect what's about to come. Looks like JioMart will also be offering free delivery and other options like easy returns. It's hard to comment about the service just yet because we haven't had the first-hand experience using JioMart. JioMart - WhatsApp Partnership View the full article
  11. Given that by now the best scientific and medical brains are all studying the effects of the novel coronavirus, one would assume that we may have the symptoms and signs associated with the disease somewhat figured out. Well, one would be wrong. © Reuters In a rather bizarre turn of events in Wuhan, two doctors who were in contact with the patients of COVID-19, and who later fell ill because of the disease, are now showing a new symptom. The new symptoms have doctors all over the world puzzled, and more importantly, worried. Wuhan is the city where the first case of the novel coronavirus broke out. © Reuters As per a video released by China Central Television, or CCTV, the skin colour of the two doctors has changed drastically over a period of time. The doctors who are showing this new bizarre symptom have been identified as Dr Yi Fan and Dr Hu Weifeng, colleagues of Dr Li Wenliang, the man who tried to blow the figurative whistle on the virus. © CCTV While Dr Yi is a cardiologist, Dr Hu is a urologist who has been bedridden for over 99 days, as per the report that was filed. The Science Times a website operated by a community of scientists tried to speculate as to how something like this could take place. The first reason that they and the doctors treating Dr Yi & Dr Hu gave was that it could be the virus itself. Because the virus attacks the respiratory and the renal systems, this has an effect on the lungs, liver, and kidneys, all of which play a vital role in ridding the body of wastes. The article postulates that because the livers have stopped functioning normally, they had to put both the doctors on a life-supporting machine which causes certain hormonal imbalances. © CCTV The second reason, that the doctors gave was that certain medicines, which have been given to most Chinese people who were treated for the virus, causes the pigmentation of the skin to change. © Reuters In any case, the team of doctors looking after Dr Yi & Dr Hu are assuming that their skin condition will return to normal, once they are taken off the treatments and the medicine. Global Times, the tabloid division of the Chinese state-run People's Daily newspaper soon put out a video showing that Dr Yi has already started getting his colour back. 12. Update: An earlier version of the article reported that the government of India had launched this app. The information turned out to be incorrect and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. Recently, the government deemed the highly popular 'Zoom' app as 'unsafe' for video calling purposes. The app seems to be facing a lot of security issues, making it potentially dangerous for business purposes and for holding some confidential meetings. Even companies like Google, SpaceX and even some schools have stopped using it due to the same reason. More recently, a new piece of information started making rounds on the internet claiming that the Government has already launched a new video calling app called 'Namaste' as an alternate to the 'Zoom' app. It started making waves around the internet, however, the Government came up with a clarification saying that it's a fake news and no such app has been launched. Here, check it out - View this post on Instagram A post shared by MyGov, Government of India (@mygovindia) on Apr 21, 2020 at 12:59am PDT We're not entirely sure about the source of this fake news, but you might want to let people know about it since the app is currently trending across the social media. But if you're still interested to know exactly how the app works, here's everything that you need to know - © Namaste Yes, the app is already available to use, however, it's still in beta so you may expect some bugs in its current state. It's only available on the web for now and it'll eventually be available for mobile phones as an app as well. Currently, the website for 'Namaste' reads: "We are facing tremendous demand for NAMASTE and hence you may face some temporary connectivity issues. Please check back soon". In case you're wondering, the app has been created by a Mumbai-based web application and software development company called Inscripts. We faced some hiccups, but we managed to use it to see if it's any good. Here are some thoughts - © Namaste So, as soon as you visit the website, you'll see an option to either create a new meeting or join an existing one. Once you start a new meeting, you'll be asked to allow permission to access your microphone and camera. Once you do that, you'll see a pop-up with the meeting details that you need to share with others so they can join. It's very similar to how you'd invite someone on, say, a 'Google Meet' or a 'WebX' call. The pop-up will have details like the meeting URL, a meeting ID, and code. Anyone with these credentials will be able to join your meeting. Despite the connectivity issues, which we think is due to the sudden spike in usage, it worked just fine. We expect it to get better over time. As of now, there's no word on a date for when the app will get out of beta or when the apps for Android and iOS will be made available. Note: Since we're not sure about the integrity of this app, we suggest you stay away from this, at least for now. View the full article
  13. Apple has been long rumoured to be launching a new affordable pair of AirPods this year and according to Jon Prosser, the YouTuber who accurately predicted the launch date of the iPhone SE claims that the cheaper AirPods are ready to launch. According to Prosser, Apple is planning to announce the new AirPods alongside new products next month which were scheduled to be announced in late March 2020 but got delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. New AirPods (which were supposed to be at the March Event) are now ready to go. Probably alongside the MacBook Pro next month. â Jon Prosser (@jon_prosser) April 19, 2020 The new AirPods are expected to have a similar design as the AirPods Pro, but will lack certain features like noise cancellation. A refresh to the design of the classic AirPods is long overdue and this could be the iteration Apple has been planning for a while. The new AirPods may also not come with a wireless charging case in order to curb costs and price of the upcoming accessory. © MENSXP/Akshay Bhalla Apple is also expected to announce other products such as a new MacBook Pro, wireless charging pads and AirTags. Of course, we advise you take this information with a grain of salt as plans of releasing new products may have changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and we could face delays that werenât expected before. Apple is also expected to announce new over-ear headphones at Appleâs virtual WWDC conference later this year. View the full article
  14. Mukesh Khannaâs comments mocking Sonakshi Sinha on her knowledge about the mythological saga âRamayanâ got a lot of attention on social media. Today, the veteran actor defended his own statement and explained that he took her name as an example and did not intend to demean her. It happened right after Sonakshiâs father Shatrughan Sinha ranted in an interview taking a dig at the Shaktimaan actor. Let us take you back to how it all started. 1. April 4: It was earlier this month when the mythological sagas Ramayan and Mahabharat started to telecast again and in an interview, Mukesh Khanna was asked to react on the same. Khanna had played the role of Bhishma Pitamah in the iconic mythological show Mahabharat which aired on Doordarshan in the 90s. © Doordarshan In the interview, he took a pot-shot at Sonakshi Sinha by bringing up the fact that she did not know anything about Indian mythology. So you might remember how Sonakshi was trolled on social media after she featured on Kaun Banega Crorepati where she was asked a question from the Ramayan and she couldn't answer it. Referring to that episode, Mukesh Khanna had said, âI think the reruns will be useful to many who havenât watched the show earlier. It will also help people like Sonakshi Sinha who have no knowledge about our mythological sagas. People like her donât know who lord Hanuman got Sanjivani for.â 2. April 7: After his statement started to go viral, Mukeshâs Mahabharat co-star Nitish Bhardwaj had also criticized his comments on Sonakshi and questioned why to target Sonakshi alone and added that there is always a better way to say the same thing. He added that seniors should be empathetic towards their juniors. 3. April 11: Well, Sonakshiâs father Shatrughan Sinha came in defense of his daughter and gave it back to Mukesh Khanna without even mentioning his name. Shatrughan Sinha told an entertainment portal, âI believe someone has a problem with Sonakshi not answering a question on the Ramayan. Firstly what qualifies this person to be an expert on all things to do with the Ramayan? And who has appointed him the guardian of the Hindu religion? I am very proud of my three children. Sonakshi became a star on her own. I never had to launch her career. She is a daughter any father would be proud to have. Not answering a question on the Ramayan doesnât disqualify Sonakshi from being a good Hindu. She doesnât need a certificate of approval from anyone.â View this post on InstagramHappy Fathers day to my handsome papa and all the other papas, dads, abbus, dadas, babas, bapus out there â¤ï¸ @shatrughansinhaofficialA post shared by (@aslisona) 4. April 12: Puneet Issar, who is known for his performance as Duryodhan in B. R. Chopra's mythological show Mahabharata, also slammed Mukesh for his insensitive remark targeting Sonakshi. In an interview, he said, âKhanna shouldnât have said that. Sonakshi is an AVM student, my kids too went there. If she didnât know one question of Ramayan in KBC, the world wouldn't end there. Why should one condemn someone so openly? At least I wouldnât have said what Khanna has said,â he said. âAs you age, you should be grateful. âPhal lagte hain toh pedh jhuk jaana chahiye (A fruit-bearing tree should bow down),â he added. 5. April 13/14: Mukesh Khanna has now defended his statements saying that he wasnât demeaning Sonakshi. In an interview with TOI, âPeople have blown my comment out of proportion and presented it wrongly to Shatruji. I have known him for long and have immense respect for him. I took Sonakshiâs name as a mere example. It does not mean I was trying to demean her or question her knowledge. My intention was not to target her. However, I am shocked to see how the current generation is not aware of many things.â Well, itâs high time that we stop using Sonakshi Sinhaâs example all over again and again but I totally get what Mukesh Khanna has been saying that we the millennials lack knowledge about our mythological sagas. But, itâs unfair to take any name to support your argument knowing that Sonakshi has already faced the brunt because of the same. View the full article
  15. Given how we are stuck in our homes and bored out of our minds, a lot of us have found a weird and convoluted refuge in social media. And we are not just talking about mindlessly scrolling through our social media feeds, and sending unsolicited DMs - we are more active than ever before on social media, posting stuff, tweeting out and participating in challenges. © iStock During such a time, it is imperative that you bring your A-Game on social media, and sound intellectual. And what better way to do that than to sprinkle some really dope and cool-sounding words in your captions and tweets? And the best thing of all, these words are already becoming viral, so expect to get a lot of traction using these. Covidiot © iStock Etymology: Covid + Idiot A covidiot is a moron who just doesnât take the quarantine and the lockdown measures seriously and is, therefore, risking getting infected, and then infecting others with the novel coronavirus. They should be officially declared Public Enemy Number 1. Usage in a sentence: Nitin went out today to buy cigarettes and some alcohol, that too without wearing a mask, proving that he is a total covidiot. Quarantigue © iStock Etymology: Quarantine + Fatigue The mental exhaustion and fatigue that sets in after spending what seems to be an eternity in lockdown. Can also refer to the actual, physical exhaustion, and fatigue people experience, due to working from home, all the while having to do household chores, all by themselves, with no help whatsoever. Usage in a sentence: I had to clean up my room, wipe the floor for the entire house, cook my meals, and wash my clothes, all the while attending numerous conference and video calls for the office. My quarantigue knows no bounds. Covidcation © iStock Etymology: Covid + Vacation The false sense of vacation that some people get, given that all classes and work in some offices have been cancelled. What these people do not realise is the mountain of work awaiting them, when the lockdown is finally lifted. Usage in a sentence: Enjoy your covidcation as much as you can now; be ready to pull a number of all-nighters, when we start working on the project again after the lockdown. Covidanoid/Covinoid © iStock Etymology: Covid + Paranoid Someone who is extremely paranoid about everything when it comes to the coronavirus, and COVID-19. Easily susceptible to rumours that they get through forwarded messages, these are the people whose WhatsApp and Twitter apps should be deactivated for some time. Covidanoids can be a pain to deal with at times. Usage in a sentence: Nilesh looks very suspiciously because a distant cousin of mine, whom I havenât met in over three years has contracted the virus. He fears that I will infect him with the virus if I get close. He is such a covidanoid. Covidcrazy © iStock Etymology: Covid + Crazy These are the panic mongers and conspiracy theorists who believe that everything that is taking place has an ulterior and convoluted reason behind it. Not only do they believe in and forward those ridiculous WhatsApp forwarded messages, they also create messages which are absolutely bonkers. These are also the people who question everything that the government and medical bodies tell us to do because apparently, they are in cahoots with big pharmaceutical companies to make us sick. These are the people who should be labelled Public Enemy Number 2. Usage in a sentence: Atul just sent me a message saying that if we take a hot shower, and clean everything with hard liquor like vodka and whiskey, the coronavirus will die, before infecting us. He truly is covidcrazy. Covismart © iStock Etymology: Covid + Smart Rarest of the bunch, a covismart is someone who, well, is smart. They follow the rules of social distancing, are smart about managing things, do not spread rumours and false news, keep proper hygiene and take all measures to ensure that the contagion is contained, seriously. Usage in a sentence: Varun does not step out of his house unless it is absolutely necessary, and he washes his hands thoroughly every hour. He is being covismart about the situation in hand. 16. There are rare occasions where we come across certain inspiring stories that really move us in more ways than one. True leaders lead by example and Irelandâs Prime Minister, Leo Varadkar, is a perfect example of that. Whatâs really inspiring about PM Varadkar is that he is a former doctor, who has now decided to go back to being a part-time medic to help his country fight against the deadly novel coronavirus. Isn't that amazing? © Reuters At present, people all over the world are reeling under the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus that has affected over 1.4 million people globally, and scientists are working day in and day out to come up with a cure for it. And meanwhile, news pieces like these keep the hope in humanity alive at the time of crisis. Who is Leo Varadkar? He is an Irish Fine Gael politician and a physician who has been the Prime Minister of Ireland since 2017. The former GP was born to an Irish nurse Miriam, from Waterford and Ashok Varadkar, a doctor from Mumbai. © Reuters Varadkar created history after he was formally elected as the countryâs first PM of Indian descent. He is also Irelandâs youngest and first openly gay Prime Minister. After working as a doctor for seven years, Varadkar quit the medical field in 2013 to pursue a full-fledged career in politics. His Future Plan? The Taoiseach, as the Prime Minister is referred to in Ireland, has now returned to the medical field and plans to work one shift a week to help out during the pandemic. This decision was taken by him to reduce the burden on frontline doctors. Ireland has been in a state of complete lockdown for over two weeks now. People on social media were full of praises for the inspiring leader that he is. The world truly needs such visionary leaders, especially at a time like this. In Ireland, there are 5,709 confirmed cases at present and the death toll stands at 210. There have been only around 25 recoveries so far. View the full article
  17. As concerns about COVID-19 grow, the demand for hand sanitisers has skyrocketed across the globe. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), although it is more than a mere fix, diligent use of hand sanitizer along with practicing social distancing is the best possible way to keep the virus away. Not to forget, maintaining personal hygiene is important to avoid the risk of getting infected and spreading it to others. While we all might know the basics before buying a hand sanitizer, it gets difficult to keep a tab on facts and separate them from fiction in the day of forwards on WhatsApp University and much to parse through online. So let's delve into some of the lingering questions about hand sanitiser that might be on your mind. Why 60% and not 100% alcohol concentration? We know alcohol is effective in killing microbes, including bacteria and viruses, but hand sanitisers with at least 60% alcohol content are considered more useful. However, using undiluted alcohol is not advisable as that would dry out the skin or cause irritation. This is why most hand sanitisers use Isopropyl Alcohol so that we are able to sanitise our hands as frequently as needed without any dryness or irritation. © istock Are homemade hand sanitisers a bad idea? There are many DIY hand sanitiser ideas online, including some that use vodka or other hard liquor. But, the ethanol concentration in such alcohol is typically 30 to 45 percent which is not high enough to kill microbes. Also, pure alcohol evaporates too quickly to efficiently kill bacteria or viruses on our hands, especially when the air is less humid. While rubbing alcohol on cuts and scrapes could be useful, a homemade hand sanitiser is not a wise idea. © istock Is a quick thrust of hand sanitiser enough? Hand sanitizers are only effective if used in a proper way. Just like with soap and water, hand sanitisers won't work unless it's used in the right amount and with proper technique. While using hand sanitizer, make sure it's covering the hands entirely, including between your fingers. Don't rub in the sanitizer too quickly. Stop only when it is completely absorbed. © istock __ECOMLOOKS__360__ Do expiry dates really matter? YES! Just like everything else, every hand sanitiser has an expiry date too. As alcohol is volatile, with time it will slowly evaporate, making the sanitiser lose its ability to kill bacteria and viruses. Although the scarcity of hand sanitisers might make us overlook this factor, it is necessary to make sure that we're not using an expired one. Get this hygiene kit with a foam hand sanitiser. Grab the kit before it's sold out… __ECOMPRODUCT__292__ Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention View the full article

From corporate work-from-home mandates to shutting down of malls to a self-imposed quarantine that does not have a definite ending date, the coronavirus pandemic has shaken the world up and taken over our lives in real ways. We're still trying to figure out how to deal with our everyday lives whilst sitting inside the four walls of our houses. For instance, while malls are shutting down, most retailers are open online. But the question is, and we're sure you've thought of too, is it okay to shop online? More importantly, are the delivery guys at risk while they do their job in delivering your boxes? The answer is yes. A study found that coronavirus can be found for up to 24 hours on cardboard, and even, up to 2-3 days on plastic and stainless steel. Itâs not exactly clear how long it can survive on paper though. © iStock While corporates like Cure.Fit have placed strict instructions for their employees to wear masks and exercise caution while delivering packages. It's not standard practice across other services. This is something that needs to be taken seriously with all corporate giants to ensure the safety of people who deliver packages. Can packages carry coronavirus? A study by the Harvard Medical School reveals that the risk of getting infected from a package is low, even if an infected person has touched it. The same is true for the items inside. © iStock How can you support small businesses that are struggling? The fashion industry has taken a major hit because of the global pandemic with many small businesses facing a crisis situation at present with little to no revenue in their pockets. This is also true for the local stores in your locality who will be facing major footfall. © iStock Instead of ordering through subscription services, or Amazon Prime that is anyway choked with orders at present, try ordering daily essentials by calling up your local Kirana store. Most Kirana stores have delivery arrangements and will be happy to deliver. View the full article
  23. Sony recently announced new hardware features that give us a better picture of the PlayStation 5. Mark Cerny, the chief architect of the console explained the hardware in a deep dive presentation earlier this week. We decided to compile every official information we know about the upcoming console including specifications and other features that you may have missed previously: 1. Specifications © YouTube/Sony Computer Entertainment The PlayStation 5 is already sounding closer to a gaming PC with impressive specifications that will power the console. From super-fast Solid State Drives (SSD), to new CPU and GPUs by AMD and interesting audio features - the console has a lot going for it. We also know that the console will be able to support up to 8K resolution and higher refresh rates, thanks to the upgraded hardware. If you are wondering what specifications we know of so far, you can have a look at the table below: PlayStation 5 CPU 8x Zen 2 Cores at 3.5GHz (variable frequency) GPU 10.28 TFLOPs, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz (variable frequency) Die Size N/A Process N/A Memory 16GB GDDR6/256-bit Memory Bandwidth 448GB/s Internal Storage Custom 825GB SSD IO Throughput 5.5GB/s (Raw), Typical 8-9GB/s (Compressed) Expandable Storage NVMe SSD Slot External Storage USB HDD Support Optical Drive 4K UHD Blu-ray Drive 2. Nomenclature and Design © Youtube/Sony Computer Entertainment Sony confirmed that the next console will be called the PlayStation 5 and revealed the official logo at CES earlier this year. It doesnât look any different than the PlayStation 4 logo but it made the nomenclature of the console official. As far as the design of the console is concerned, Sony has not revealed the official design and is waiting for the right moment to unveil it to the world. Sony may show off the design sometime in June but there is no telling as the Japanese company has been very secretive. We do however, know what the development kit looks like as it has been leaked from various sources: © Twitter/Alocoholikaust It certainly is a very odd design but we can expect the final PlayStation 5 design to take inspiration from the development kit. We predict the consoleâs design will be a bit bulkier as the new hardware needs better heat dissipation. We will only know for sure when Sony unveils the final design in the coming months. 3. It Supports Backwards Compatibility © YouTube/Sony PlayStation The PlayStation 5 is confirmed to support some PS4 and PS4 Pro games at launch as indicated by Mark Cerny during the presentation earlier this week. âWe recently took a look at the 100 top PlayStation 4 titles as ranked by playtime, and we're expecting almost all of them to be playable at launch on PlayStation 5,â said Cerny. However, it is worth pointing out that the console may not support every PS4 game at launch as Sony âexpectsâ them to be supported. It could mean that it is entirely up to the developers to support their older games on the PlayStation 5 and will not be playable by default. Users will be able to bring over their PS4 library to the PlayStation 5 and can even play the games using a USB 3.2 HDD or via the SSD. 4. Launch Date and Pricing We currently donât know the exact launch date of the console but Sony has confirmed it will launch sometime this Holiday season. Having said that, there is a good chance that the console might get delayed due to the Coronavirus outbreak. If the console is not delayed, we can expect a gradual rollout specific to regions and in limited quantities. © YouTube/Sony PlayStation As far as the pricing is concerned, rumours have been all over the place, but a recent report suggested that the PlayStation 5 could cost $450 to make and it translates to little over Rs 32,000 when converted. This means that Sony will probably have to sell the console at a loss and recover revenue from other sources. Sony could take a similar route as the PlayStation 4 and launch the PlayStation 5 for $470 dollars to keep the price of the console lower than expected. For the Indian pricing of the PlayStation 5, assuming the console has a retail price of $470 dollars, it comes to around Rs 43,000. This price includes 28% import duty that the Indian government imposes on game consoles imports. View the full article
