Rohit Sharma is normally known as a cool and composed leader on the field but when you get off to a poor start as the Mumbai Indians have in the Indian Premier League (IPL), you are bound to get a tad bit frustrated. After an onslaught from Pat Cummins blew away the five-time IPL champions, Rohit failed to control his emotions and snapped at the broadcasters. When the broadcasters were setting up logistics for Rohit's post-match interaction with the commentators, the Mumbai Indians captain, already annoyed with yet another loss, initially, was unable to hear the questions and snapped at the broadcasting team, asking them to increase the volume. Haha Captain cool antaru ga Sharma looks quite frustrating here #KKRvMI #KKR #Mi #IPL2022 #IPL pic.twitter.com/YnA36bc2OI — Phani Varma (@phanny__18) April 6, 2022'Awaaz badhao yaar uska,' Rohit was heard saying in a frustrated tone and a video of the same went viral on social media. Fans wasted no time in comparing Rohit's frustration to Virat Kohli's calmness in most post-match ceremonies. Kohli, who is known for his in-your-face attitude, had always maintained his calm while addressing questions even after losing big games internationally as well as in the IPL, where he failed to win a single title with RCB as the skipper, but what we saw from Rohit showed that it is not easy to be the captain when your team is not performing. Here are some of the reactions: If Virat Kohli had a a team like Mumbai Indian's, he would've won 10 title's by now. — Vishnu (@MasterVKohli) April 7, 2022Rohit Sharma's fans logic, if bowlers take early wickets and put pressure on the opposition. After the match, reflecting on the defeat, Rohit said that it will be a hard one to digest as they thought they had them when Tymal Mills dismissed Andre Russell but Pat Cummins went ballistic as he smashed the joint-fastest half-century in IPL's history (in 14 balls) to help KKR get over the line with four overs to spare. “Never expected him to come and play like that [on Cummins]. Lots of credit. The pitch got better and better to bat as the game went on. It was holding up initially. Overall it was a good pitch. With the bat, we did not start well, in the last 4-5 overs to get 70+ was a great effort from the batting unit. We did not bowl according to the plan. We had the game till the 15th over, but then Cummins was brilliant,” Rohit had said. View the full article

Virat Kohli took a splendid catch during Royal Challengers Bangalore's four-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede stadium on Tuesday (April 5). However, the former RCB skipper failed with the bat after being run out for five by the brilliance of Sanju Samson and Yuzvendra Chahal. While he did not entertain much with the bat in hand, Kohli sure brought smiles to the faces of RCB fans and cricket fans in general just as his team was inching closer to their second consecutive win in the 15th edition of the IPL. Virat Kohli’s brand value has taken a massive hit in the last 12 months, going down from around $238 million (Rs 1,803 cr) in 2020 to $181 million (Rs 1,371 cr) in 2021. This massive plunge is a direct result of what transpired on the field in the last six months. The Delhi batter is not the leader anymore. He relinquished T20I and Test captaincy on his own but was sacked unceremoniously from the 50-over role by the Indian cricket board. He even stepped down from the RCB captaincy. © Reuters His performances on the field weren’t great either and not to forget he was also involved in various controversies with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and its president Sourav Ganguly over the last few months and all this has caused a huge dip in his brand value. “One of the major factors for this drop was the increased risk associated with his brand and with the recent stepping down from captaincy and controversy with the BCCI,” Aviral Jain, Managing Director, Duff & Phelps, the agency that published this report, was quoted as saying by Moneycontrol. © Reuters Despite his brand value taking a huge plunge, the 33-year-old still continues to be India’s top celebrity brand endorser for the fifth consecutive year. He has eclipsed the likes of Ranveer Singh ($158m) and Akshay Kumar ($140m), Aliya Bhatt ($68m) who occupy the next three spots on the list. Even though his valuation has gone down considerably, the former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper still endorses more than 30 brands. Despite the plunge, he continues to be the most valuable athlete in the country. © Reuters There is a stark difference in Kohli’s brand value and the next cricketer on the list – MS Dhoni who has a valuation of $61m. The former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper, who guided them to their fourth IPL trophy last year, has seen a rise in his valuation but he is still miles behind his RCB compatriot. © Reuters Rohit Sharma, who took Kohli’s place as India’s new all-format captain, has also seen his brand value increase from $25.7 million in 2020 to $32.2 million in 2021 Just to put into perspective, the loss Kohli endured on his brand value was way more than Rohit’s current brand valuation. Just looking at the numbers, the Mumbai Indians skipper has a huge catching up to do before he can rival Kohli’s brand popularity. There’s no doubt that Kohli's numbers have gone down but he is still the undisputed king of the brand endorsement industry and it’s a testament to his overall supremacy. View the full article

Rohit Sharma made a dream start to his captaincy stint across formats as he won 14 games on the trot since he was announced as Team India captain in all three formats. Rohit replaced Virat Kohli as the skipper and has clean swept New Zealand, the West Indies and Sri Lanka at home. At home, Rohit's record as captain is astonishing. The opening batter has given youngsters a chance but even the constant changing and chopping has not affected the outcome of the match. Virat Kohli ended the Test series against Sri Lanka without scoring a half-century in three innings and the former India captain has now played 73 innings without scoring a hundred in international cricket. Kohli only managed to score 86 runs in three innings in the two-match series that saw his Test batting average dip below 50 for the first time in nearly five years. The 33-year-old batter last touched the 100-run mark back in 2019 in a day-night Test against Bangladesh in Kolkata. While new India captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid are not too bothered with the lack of runs from Kohli's blade, his fans are getting anxious waiting for his 71st century. To improve his confidence, Kohli's childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma has asked the India batter to come back to the cricket academy and gain some confidence back. "Virat will need to come back to his basics. I would definitely want him to come back to the academy. I was thinking about this from yesterday and I am going to talk to him. The kind of confidence that he gets batting in the academy, he needs it,” Rajkumar Sharma said on the Khelneeti podcast. Virat Kohli is the epitome of fitness and not even his critics can deny the fact that he is the fittest Indian cricketer in the current team. Kohli takes extreme care of his diet and workout regime to stay in the best possible shape in a bid to perform to the best of his abilities day in and day out. However, being a West Delhi boy, Kohli was always fond of food and was not too serious about his diet from the beginning of his professional career and only started taking his fitness seriously when he had an ordinary season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) back in 2012. It was then the former India captain decided to take his fitness to another level and he has not looked back since. "In 2012 IPL, I was my eating, Sleeping and everything habit was very bad and I was in total horrible shape and one day I just looked myself & felt this is not the example I should be setting as a sportsman and from that day onwards I changed everything in myself." - Virat Kohli pic.twitter.com/tmvqEHvzpK — CricketMAN2 (@ImTanujSingh) December 26, 2020 The 33-year-old used to gorge on a lot of street food and has expressed his love for Chole Bhature on a number of occasions. Before turning vegetarian and cutting on meat in his diet due to a cervical spine issue, Kohli used to be fond of chicken and mutton rolls. His love for non-vegetarian food nearly got him and his Under-19 teammate from Delhi Pradeep Sangwan in trouble when the duo was in South Africa. Kohli heard about a place from someone that used to serve mouth-watering mutton rolls but the area was considered dangerous by the locals. View this post on Instagram That warning didn't affect Kohli who took Sangwan with him to that place and ate but they were chased by random people. However, the duo safely reached back to their place. "He (Kohli) had been my room partner for seven-eight years in junior cricket. He used to love food, street food especially. He was a foodie, korma roll, chicken roll were his favourite. We were in South Africa with the India under 19 team, and someone told him that you get nice mutton roll at some place, but it’s not in a secure neighbourhood. Our driver too told us that food is nice but recently some fight took place around there and someone chopped someone’s hand there. I got scared, but he said, ‘chal yaar, wahan chalenge’ (no biggie, dude, let’s go) and he took me there too," Sangwan wrote in his column for the Indian Express. "We ate and few random guys chased us, but we just drove our car back and only stopped after reaching our place," he added. © Twitter Virat Kohli The Delhi pacer also said that they used to tease Kohli for his chubbiness but he took his fitness to another level and went on to become one of the best match-winners for India in international cricket. Virat Kohli's century drought in international cricket continued as he made 45 in the first innings of his 100th Test match. Kohli was looking at ease out in the middle before a Lasith Embuldeniya delivery went past the outside edge of Kohli and hit the top of off stump, leaving the former India captain bamboozled. It was his 71st innings without a century and while he may not have got to the three-figure mark, Kohli has been scoring runs consistently for Team India. The 33-year-old himself said that he is not bothered about the milestones and just wants to concentrate on helping the team's cause. Gambhir said Indian players have been playing a lot of limited-overs cricket and that has hampered their game against spinners. The former India opener highlighted that players prepare for a game by majorly facing pace bowling and that has put them off their basics. © Instagram/Gautam Gambhir "One of the major concerns is that the bat is in the line of pads. When that happens, it is difficult to play deliveries that turn away as well as those that don't turn. If you keep your bat ahead of your pad, you will be beaten only on one edge. When you look at Mayank Agarwal's dismissal, he was beaten on the inside edge. In Virat Kohli's case, he was beaten on the outside edge. So, it is very important to have your bat ahead of your pad,” Gambhir said during the post-Tea show on Star Sports on Day 1 of the first Test. "This is usually taught in formative years. Nowadays, you play so much limited-overs cricket that you lose your basics, the good habits die down. You've concentrated significantly on fast bowling, so I believe Indian batters have a scope for improvement in tackling spin," Gambhir added. Huge breakthrough for Sri Lanka! Virat Kohli fans who were waiting for his 71st international century were left disappointed as the former India captain was dismissed for 45 in the ongoing first Test between India and Sri Lanka in Mohali on Friday (March 4). Virat Kohli received a well-deserved break from international cricket and mentally draining bio-bubbles after he scored a fluent half-century and helped India seal the three-match T20I series against the West Indies last week. He followed it up with another century on the final day of the match in the second innings. With a terrific start to his first-class career, Dhull joined an elite list of players who have scored centuries in both innings of their debut Ranji game. Before the 19-year-old, Nari Contractor (152 and 102* for Gujarat in 1952/53 season) and Virag Awate (126 and 112 for Maharashtra in 2012/13) had achieved the feat. Virat Kohli will be playing his first One-Day International under Rohit Sharma's captaincy ever since he relinquished the captaincy duties across formats, as India are set to take on the West Indies in a three-match ODI series, starting February 6, Saturday. Kohli, who had stepped down as the skipper in the T20I format, was removed as captain from the 50-over format and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) appointed Rohit as his successor. In a recent interview, Kohli had himself said that he doesn't believe that a person needs the tag of a captain to be a leader among the group. With his statement, the 33-year-old had hinted that senior players in the team are already involved in the decision-making process. © Reuters "You do not need to be a captain to be the leader. When MS Dhoni was in the team, it was not like he was not the leader, he was still the guy from whom we wanted to have inputs. To win or not win is not in your hands, the striving for excellence and to be better every day, is not something you can do short term. When it comes to a culture, it will last beyond your playing years and your responsibility,” Kohli had said. Echoing the words of ex-India captain, former all-rounder Irfan Pathan said Kohli will help the new captain Rohit Sharma 'do the right thing' on the field. “He is not the captain, but as long as he is in the team, he is a leader,” the former India all-rounder said. “He will help the new captain to do the right thing,” Irfan was quoted as saying by The Hindu. "He (Kohli) sent out the right messages and he took the team’s fitness to another level. Going forward, I am sure he will help out others, especially Rohit Sharma. Every captain contributes in unique fashion. Kohli had his energy, Rohit will give you calmness,” he added. Under Kohli, India qualified for the Champions Trophy final in 2017, World Cup semi-final in 2019 and World Test Championship last year but failed to go the distance on all three occasions. Really happy for the @BLACKCAPS. They stayed on top throughout the game. Their bowlers were outstanding especially Kyle Jamieson! Kohli captained India in 68 Tests and led the side to a win in 40 matches. It was under his leadership when India registered their first-ever Test series win in Australia. With a new era set to begin in Indian cricket, as cricket fans, it would be fitting to see all the controversies surrounding Indian cricket being put to bed and players letting their performances do the talking. The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin in a few months time and this season is going to be a bigger one as two new franchises are set to join the fray in a bid to fight for the trophy. Lucknow Super Giants and Ahmedabad are the two new teams set to make their debut in the 15th edition of IPL. All the 10 franchises have already named their retention list ahead of the mega auction that is set to be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13. Virat Kohli, who captained Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for nine years, had relinquished the skipper’s role in the IPL after stepping down as captain of the Indian team in the T20I format. You’ve been an inspiration and a leader par excellence. Thank you for taking Indian cricket forward like only you could have. Thank you for the memories, King! Chennai Super Kings will be captained by MS Dhoni but it might be his last season and the team management would be looking to pick his potential successor so that he gets to rub shoulders with Dhoni before taking the franchise forward from next season onwards. Proven leaders in the league like David Warner, Shreyas Iyer and Eoin Morgan will be up for grabs as all the 10 IPL teams will fight it out at the auction table to get the best possible squad for their franchise. Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Super Giants and Ahmedabad have announced their captains ahead of the IPL mega auction but other teams are still in search of a leader and with this being a mega auction, we could see some crazy bids being made at the auction table. Opening batter David Warner, who has won an IPL title with SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the past, and young Shreyas Iyer who led Delhi Capitals to the final in the 13th edition could be on the minds of RCB as they prepare strategies for the mega auction. It was Warner’s SRH who denied Kohli his first IPL title in 2016 as the defeated RCB in the final by eight runs in a high-scoring summit clash. If RCB gets Warner, we might get to see Warner and Kohli open the batting for their side and that promises to be an extraordinary combination. Chennai Super Kings View this post on Instagram CSK’s talismanic skipper MS Dhoni had cleared the air over his ability for the 15th edition of the IPL. The former India skipper also mentioned that he wishes to play his final IPL game at Chepauk. Dhoni’s last season with the bat wasn’t a good one and he himself knows that the upcoming season could be his last as a CSK player. The Chennai-based franchise might go shopping for a youngster like Shreyas Iyer who has the leadership qualities and age on his side. To top it all, he will be groomed by one of the most successful captains in Indian cricket’s history MS Dhoni. SunRisers HyderabadWe thank the players for their contribution to SRH over the years. Virat Kohli has kept himself away from the spotlight ever since he relinquished the Test captaincy after India’s series defeat in South Africa. Kohli put out a statement on social media and did not interact with the media after stepping down as India skipper in the longest format of the game. And now, the prolific India batter has spoken on captaincy for the first time since vacating his leadership duties across all formats. © Reuters Kohli, on an episode of Fireside Chat with Virat Kohli, said that everything has a ‘tenure and time period’ and as an individual, you have to be aware of it. “See, I think firstly you need to have a complete understanding of what you set out to achieve and whether you have achieved those targets or not. Everything has a tenure and time period, so you have to be aware of it. As a batter, you might be able to give more to the team, so take pride in that,” Kohli said. The former captain also said that one doesn’t need a label of captaincy to be a leader within a team. Rishabh Pant is a match-winner on his day but when things don’t go his way, he looks like a cricketer with little sense of match situation. Indian cricket fans have been wondering one thing of late -- who will now take over the reins from Virat Kohli after the prolific batter stepped down as Test captain of the Indian team? Kohli shocked the world by announcing that he will not lead the Test side in a statement that he put out on social media after the series loss in South Africa. Rohit Sharma, who was the designated vice-captain in Tests and skipper in ODIs, had missed the tour of South Africa due to a hamstring injury and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had named KL Rahul as the captain for the ODI series and Jasprit Bumrah as his deputy. Bumrah's back!#INDvSL pic.twitter.com/2rToj0uyTN — BCCI (@BCCI) January 7, 2020 Bumrah addressed the press ahead of the ODI series opener and spoke about his desire to lead the team one day. "If given an opportunity, it will be an honour and I don't see any player would say no and I am no different. Be it any leadership group, I always look to contribute however I can, to the best of my abilities," Bumrah said in a virtual press conference ahead of the South Africa ODI series. While we have seen how successful a pacer can be in Tests as a captain recently during the Ashes where Pat Cummins registered a 4-0 series win over England, we can't rule out the fact that Bumrah could be considered as a candidate to lead the team in the longest format of the game. BCCI issues statement on Virat Kohli's shocking announcement
ADMIN posted a blog entry in Geo News Blog
Virat Kohli has been the most successful Test captain India has ever produced, says BCCI -
It is not wrong to say that Virat Kohli and controversies go hand in hand. Whenever the India captain does something on the field, it becomes a topic of discussion among fans and experts. Similar scenes were on display late on Thursday when one DRS decision that went against India triggered Kohli so much that he walked up to the stump mic to vent his frustration. Kohli was caught having a go at the host broadcasters for always focusing on the visiting team's antics and keeping a blind eye on what the Proteas do on the ground. "Focus on your team as well when they shine the ball eh, not just the opposition. Trying to catch people all the time," Kohli had said. Many former cricketers including Gautam Gambhir, Aakash Chopra criticised the approach shown by the Indian skipper and urged him to accept the decision and move on with the game. An uncapped wicket-keeper batter Shreevats Goswami, who has played alongside Kohli in the Indian Premier League, also tweeted on the whole episode and wrote "Unnecessary comment , accept and play on please Folded hands #INDvsSA." View this post on InstagramLittle did Shreevats know that expressing his views on what transpired on the field on Day 3 of the third Test could result in fans using hate speech against him. India captain Virat Kohli answered his critics in style by showing his mental toughness and fought hard for his side on the opening day of the third Test against South Africa that went in the favour of the hosts. Kohli scored 79 runs but his restraint of not going after wide deliveries is what stood out for most of us, especially after seeing him get out in a similar fashion in recent times. However, if you are also thinking like that, a former India batter does not agree with you. Sanjay Manjrekar, during his analysis of Kohli's knock, said that while he wants to tip his hat to Kohli for showing great determination and temperament, he is not happy with the approach the Indian captain has opted for in Test cricket. We are saying he ran out of partners and hence missed a hundred. But the Virat Kohli of old, with all the shots that he used to play, would have got a 130 in the same number of balls," Manjrekar said while speaking on ESPN Cricinfo. The former India batter said Kohli has started to rely on his front foot while looking to score boundaries and has lost all the shots great batters have in their arsenal. "He's now become a batter who wants to be on the front foot all the time and his one boundary scoring shot is the front foot drive. So, he has actually stopped playing all the other shots that all the top class batters usually plays. Where is the back foot punch, glide down to the third man, nudge off the back foot for a single? He is just committing himself to this technique," he added. Manjrekar also mentioned that head coach Rahul Dravid should sit with Kohli and ask him to look at his earlier knocks and how he used to play with the field and score freely. Whether you agree with Manjrekar's views or not, you cannot deny the fact that we have seen Kohli bat with the tail and score hundreds and that approach was clearly missing on the day.
