Jasprit Bumrah is usually considered as a cool and calm individual who rarely loses his cool or engages in a battle on a cricket field. However, the Indian pacer has let his emotions get the better of him in the recent past. Be it his fiery battle with James Anderson or his recent duel with young South Africa pacer Marco Jansen, Bumrah has had a go at his rivals. Bumrah got riled up after Anderson said something to him during a Test match in England and he returned the favour by attacking the England batter with a barrage of short-pitched deliveries. Each step, each success leads to the next one. So proud of this team pic.twitter.com/tXly0dccll — Jasprit Bumrah (@Jaspritbumrah93) September 6, 2021 On Day 3 of the 2nd Test between India and South Africa, it was Bumrah who was on the receiving end of the short ball attack and got hit twice on his body. The 28-year-old then got involved in an animated exchange with Jansen, who had also played for Mumbai Indians alongside Bumrah. This new side of Bumrah has not gone well with former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar. Speaking during a show on ESPN Cricinfo, Manjrekar said he doesn't like this expressive side of Bumrah. The former India batter also urged Bumrah to learn from Sri Lanka's legendary bowler and his role model Lasith Malinga on how to behave when things start to get spicy out in the middle. View this post on Instagram Notably, Bumrah and Malinga have played a lot together for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL and the former has credited Malinga on numerous occasions for the success that he has been able to achieve in the international circuit. "This anger thing is interesting. It happened in England as well and I don't like this side of Bumrah. I like it when things get really hot, he has a smile on his face just like he usually does. Just like Lasith Malinga. It is a side that I don't want to see too much of Bumrah," Manjrekar said. pic.twitter.com/2P5YLGA7E0 — Jasprit Bumrah (@Jaspritbumrah93) July 29, 2021 Just like how a charged up Bumrah spat fire in the England series after a confrontation with Anderson, India would be hoping that his exchange with Jansen can fire him up, and he deliver the goods on the fourth day of the ongoing Test match at the Wanderers and help the team to what would be a historic win. On Monday, Sri Lankan cricketer Chamika Karunaratne shared a couple of videos from his Instagram account in which he could be seen receiving a bat from Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya and getting along with the rest of the Men in Blue, presumably during the practice session ahead of the First T20I. In the caption of the videos, the Sri Lankan all-rounder showed his appreciation towards Pandya and even went on to call him his “role model”. View this post on Instagram “Absolutely honoured to have received a bat from my role model @hardikpandya93 , on my T20 debut. You are an amazing human being and I am truly touched by your thoughtful gesture. I’ll never forget this day. May God bless you always!” Karunaratne summarised the opportunity to have a heart-to-heart moment with Pandya. While the two opponents shared a moment of sportsmanship and camaraderie of the purest kind, it was Pandya’s own fans who were rather shocked about the fact that another international level player considered him to be a role model. Who tf keeps his role model as Hardik Pandya?? Even Hardik Pandya's kid won't keep his father as role model 🤣🤣🤣 Joke hai bc...I know he is a good player — Jagdish #Cheer4India 🇮🇳️ (@Jagdish84060365) July 26, 2021 Hardik bhi kisi ka role model ho skta hai kya — 𝑨𝑳𝑶𝑲 (@CricCrazyAlok) July 26, 2021 Must say,it's a poor choice Hardik has never lived upto the expectations. How many games has he won for India?Be it the ODI's / T20's?Yes there have been some good performances here and there, but he is way too inconsistent.Stokes shud be the role model for any budding cricketer. — AMISH RAY R S (@AMISHRAYRS1) July 26, 2021 Gud gesture but Role model?? Really — (@VK_FAN_FOREVER) July 26, 2021 Obviously, such a negative response comes as a result of Pandya’s struggles on the field and on both sides of the pitch. Formerly known for his ability to smack the ball out of the park from the very first delivery, Pandya has seen a significant dip in his form recently. His 10-run innings against the Sri Lankans in the first T20I only added to that list of miseries, as he was unable to hit even a single boundary during his time at the crease. Secondly, his constantly nagging lower back injuries have taken away his ability to be a regular bowler for the Indian squad and the inconsistent spurts of 2-3 overs that he receives, isn’t enough to bring him back to his usual element. As a result, Pandya’s bowling becomes more of a liability than an asset. View this post on Instagram When a player struggles to perform in the two categories that had built his name and reputation as India’s most dependable all-rounder at one point in time, backlash and hate are common to come by. If cricket history has taught us anything, it is that cricketers need but one game to bounce back to their usual self and with the hard-hitting abilities we know Pandya possesses, all he needs is to connect with a couple of his swings. He will get his chance to make one count on Tuesday when India hopes to take a 2-0 lead and win the T20I series. View the full article

Ahead of the first T20I match between India and Sri Lanka, all-rounder Hardik Pandya was spotted by the cameramen singing the Sri Lankan national anthem ‘Sri Lanka Matha (Mother Sri Lanka)’ at the R. It was very humbling to watch that. Hardik wins our heartt over in doing so. So true that sports unites countries, cultures and people !!! Played too https://t.co/owBKMK7Jwg — sonali (@samtanisonali1) July 25, 2021Walking down to the pitch at three-down in the shortest form of the game, Pandya, who has built a name for himself as a big-hitter throughout his career, failed to strike even a single boundary, scored just 10 runs off 12 balls, and lost his wicket on an outer edge caught behind in the penultimate over of India’s batting innings. Not been a regular bowler for the Men in Blue ever since recovering from his back injury a year and a half ago, Pandya leaked runs during the two overs he was given. He gave away 17 runs off 12 balls, while also scalping Ashen Bandara’s wicket in the 13th over. View this post on Instagram Nonetheless, the first of three T20I was booked under the Indian cricket team’s name behind an incredible 50-run knock by Suryakumar Yadav which followed a skipper’s batting performance by Dhawan, while debutant Prithvi Shaw had himself a golden duck. In the bowling department, it was the team vice-captain Bhuvneshwat Kumar who bundled up the Sri Lankan batsmen. In 3.3 overs, Kumar managed to give away just 22 runs while also dismissing four of their batters. For his exceptional performance, Bhuvi was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ award. View this post on Instagram Hardik Pandya will get a chance at redemption during the second T20I against Dasun Shanaka’s boys on Tuesday as the Men in Blue would wish to strike for a quick win and bagging this series as well, just like they did in for the ODI series earlier this month. It has been a couple of days since pacer Deepak Chahar reached out to his inner batsman and led the Indian cricket team to an incredible victory against the hosting Sri Lankan squad in the second of three ODI matches. At one point the Men in Blue were struggling significantly as the scoreboard read 116/5 with the loss of Hardik Pandya’s wicket for a duck and the hopes of winning the series with one game extra seemed bleak. View this post on Instagram Nonetheless, the duo of Chahar and vice-captain Bhuneshwar Kumar stitched a remarkable 84-run innings in 15 overs to steal what seemed to be a practically impossible victory and gave a huge boost to the Indian locker room ahead of the third and final ODI of the series. On the contrary, it led to a complete draining of faith and belief that the Sri Lankan roster had in itself. They were completely frustrated and imploding on live television with every boundary Chahar and Kumar hit. Here are three ways in which Deepak Chahar created major conflict within the Sri Lankan team: Mickey Arthur - Burning From WithinMickey Arthur is most entertaining head coach in international cricket. One camera is always dedicated to him.#INDvSL pic.twitter.com/IINE4MxHFd — I'm in hate with you (@Forshitssake25) July 20, 2021 Sri Lankan head coach Mickey Arthur was all smiles as the Indian top-order was dismissed for cheap and names like Pandya and Ishan Kishan fell sooner than expected. However, when Chahar started to swing for the ropes, even the commentators couldn’t help but notice the frowns returning to his forehead. By the time the match was over, Arthur could be seen walking around the dressing room, cursing and red as a tomato. To watch his team lose a game they’d already won was the final nudge he needed to go over the top. War Of Words It didn’t take long before Arthur vented his frustration on the Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka and that too in the middle of the field in the focus of cameras with a live broadcast feed to our television channels. While the captain (who also felt the burden of losing such a match) tried his best to calm the situation down, the coach didn’t want to hear any of it. In Came The VeteransThat conversation between Coach and captain should not have happened on the field but in the dressing room — Russel Arnold (@RusselArnold69) July 20, 2021 Former Sri Lankan player and legend Russel Arnold openly expressed their dissent towards Arthur’s theatrics and called him out ahead of the third and final match. “That conversation between Coach and captain should not have happened on the field but in the dressing room.” Russell Arnold tweeted. “I have told before, Sri Lanka don’t know the winning ways. They have forgotten how to win for the last so many years. It’s tough for them. I told before the lunch, if Sri Lanka takes three wickets in the first 10-15 overs India is going to struggle and actually India struggled. Big effort from Chahar and Bhuvneshwar their and they made them win,” Muttiah Muralitharan added. View the full article

On Monday, Sri Lanka Cricket decided to suspend three of their players including famous names such as Kusal Mendis and wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella after they were recorded flouting the COVID-19 protocol in the middle of the England tour. Dickwella and Mendis alongside Danushka Gunathilaka were captured on camera anonymously as they roamed the streets of Durham, without masks and with cigarettes in their hands, following the third and final T20I match of the series, which Sri Lanka lost by an embarrassing 89 runs. “Sri Lanka Cricket Executive Committee has suspended Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka & Niroshan Dickwella for breaching the bio- bubble and they will be immediately recalled to Sri Lanka,” SLC secretary Mohan De Silva said in a statement. “An investigation is underway as they have breached the (code of) conduct,” he added upon taking a look at the video which clearly shows the cricketers, all of whom were members of the Playing XI in England. Part 2 Lord Danny, King Mendis and Sir Dikwella pic.twitter.com/X998fod8YU — Asif Ali 🇱🇰🇮🇳 (@Asif_Ali96) June 28, 2021 While in the first video, only Dickwella and Mendis can be seen on screen, a second video shows Gunathilaka joining the duo as they walk around the English streets late at night, smoking and breaking the bio-bubble rules while putting at risk the members of not just their own squad by also the England side. Clearly, the fans of the Sri Lankan squad and cricket in general, were absolutely unhappy with this cricketers’ carelessness and expressed their rage on Twitter: No care of bio-bubble breach, doesn’t seem like a humiliating 3-0 loss is in their mind. With this behavior & kind of performance shown, they want higher pay & are refusing to sign 🤦♂️ what’s been offered itself is a lot of money for these good for nothing players. @RajapaksaNamal — Ijaz Rahman (@ijazah) June 28, 2021We have to understand one thing here: Bubble-Breach is problem not "enjoying" — Shivani Shukla (@iShivani_Shukla) June 28, 2021Taking a break after heavily contributed for the nation. — PS Harshendra (@psharshendra) June 28, 2021All officials of @OfficialSLC must be sleeping....what a shame. — Saroj Lama Hewa (@sarojlh) June 28, 2021The Lankan Lions are scheduled to play their first of three ODI on Tuesday and all the three suspended cricketers were to be a part of the squad. Once the series is over, the touring side was to go back to their country, where the B string of the Indian cricket team will be waiting to go toe-to-toe with them in a three-ODI and three-T20I series between 13-25 July. At the moment, the A-string of the Men in Blue is also in the United Kingdom and in the middle of an officially authorised 20-day break during which the cricketers and their families are free to explore the nation while adhering to the COVID-19 protocol established by the British government. They are required to reassemble in London on July 14 to resume practice for a five-Test series against England. View the full article
