The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is really kicking things up with the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the Eternals, which will see a huge and whole new Avengers like team-up in November across the globe. © Marvel Studios © Marvel Studios Now, while Marvel obviously explores a whole new list of comic characters for their films, they are also in line to touch upon or revamp some older franchises, at the heart of which remain some really strong superhero characters. Movies like Fox's Fantastic Four series have truly been one of the things that MCU has been looking to revive, and well, there are a few others as well. Now, we have news that should clearly excite Marvel fans. Disney just updated its release schedule for the year 2024, where four new "untitled Marvel movies" will be launched on February 16, May 3, July 26, and November 8. © Marvel Studios We already know that we are going to see the Guardians of the Galaxy 3 in 2023, so all in all, there are a few exciting superheroes that could finally come up in the cinemas for MCU, and we decided to list who they could be. 1. Deadpool 3 © 20th Century Fox The Ryan Reynolds starring Deadpool franchise was an immediate hit with the foul-mouthed mercenary anti-hero doing everything that the fans wanted in the Superhero universe. With Deadpool 2 releasing back in 2018 under the Fox banner, its takeover by Marvel will now see Deadpool make its debut in MCU's Deadpool 3, giving the superhero an opportunity to form an alliance with a whole new list of superheroes under Marvel. Reynolds as well as the makers of the film have been positive that the film will finally start filming at the end of 2022, paving the way for a release in 2024. Wouldn't it be cool to see a Deadpool and Spider-Man alliance just like in the comics? 2. Fantastic Four © Twitter It would be an understatement to say that Fox's attempt at reviving the Fantastic Four series in 2015 was a failure. The movie that starred Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan really sucked, so much so that they scrapped all plans of a sequel to it. Well, this was till Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox. According to reports, Fantastic Four, one of the most iconic superhero alliances in Marvel comics is considered a very important element in the MCU future and well, we will very well see the franchise be revamped under Disney. It's already no news that fans want husband-wife actor duo John Krasinski and Emily Blunt for the roles of Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman. View this post on Instagram Well, the movie could definitely be the project slated for release in 2024 and would be one to look out for. 3. X-Men © 20th Century Fox So many times, so many things have gone wrong with this franchise. It almost seems like the original X-Men film along with Hugh Jackman's portrayal as Wolverine in the movies through the years, have been the only good things about the Fox film series. However, now that MCU gets a say on X-Men, it could truly be the biggest thing to have happened since the Avengers. Why? Well, unlike the Avengers which had a core team of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Captain America, the X-Men have far too many renowned superheroes. It's a universe in itself and to represent it on the big screen, one really needs to do justice to it, because so far, the attempts have really been very poor. Marvel Studios, which has now become an expert in handling superhero franchises (barring Black Widow, perhaps), will look to do just that with X-Men and we could see that happen in 2024 for sure. 4. Blade © Twitter The Blade movie series starring Wesley Snipes as the Vampire hunting 'Dhampir' (a human with vampire strengths but not their weaknesses) was one hell of an entertaining franchise. However, the last film in the series was released in 2004, and we have been left waiting as to when we will see the beloved comic character on the screens again. Well, fans' pleas were finally answered in 2019, when Marvel announced the reboot of the series at Comic-Con 2019 with Mahershala Ali confirmed in the lead role as Blade. In February of this year, it was announced that Watchmen's Stacy Osei-Kuffour would come on board as the writer for the film which will be directed by Bassam Tariq. This could really be the final film that we could see as part of Marvel's 2024 calendar year. Certainly doesn't look like a bad line-up at all, if you ask me. © 20th Century Fox We'll get vampires, mutants, and loudmouth assassins who love munching Chimichangas! View the full article

Going past one opponent after another in what has turned out to be a dominant home season in recent months, the high-flying Indian cricket team was shot down to the ground by a clinical Australian brigade that romped to a commanding 10-wicket win in the 1st ODI at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The prolific form of Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul in recent matches had the Indian team management and selectors convinced that they should play all their opening batsmen, including Rohit Sharma, in the ODI series opener. The move saw Rohit and Dhawan, quite understandably, opening the innings and Rahul occupying Virat Kohli's preferred No. 3 slot, pushing the Indian captain further down to No. 4. While the move would have surely looked like a masterstroke on the drawing board, it had quite an opposite effect on the kind of result Team India and their fans would have hoped for. Rohit's dismissal at the score of 10 runs had India on the back foot early on, but a brilliant 121-run stand for the second wicket between Dhawan and Rahul probably had Kohli & Co believing that tinkering with their usual line-up was still going to pay off. But, it didn't. © Twitter/@BCCI Rahul and Dhawan, the biggest accumulators for India in the match, were sent back into the hut in a space of two overs. With a decent score on the board and still more than 30 overs left to play, India needed a partnership and the onus was on captain Kohli. But, a lack of respect to Adam Zampa saw Kohli joining Dhawan and Rahul in the pavilion sooner than the Wankhede crowd would have expected. Then, it was Shreyas Iyer's turn to take the long walk back into the Indian dressing room as the hosts found themselves reeling at 164/5 in 33 overs. Luckily, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja steadied the ship for the home side with a crucial 49-run partnership to keep India in the hunt for a decent total. And, a 26-run stand between Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav later in the innings saw India posting 255 runs on board. For a team that boasts of one of the strong batting line-ups in the sport, India could only manage a below-par total. But, with Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav bolstering their bowling attack, many believed that it was probably enough to contain the touring Aussies. However, contrary to popular perception, the Indian attack conceded the biggest ODI stand against them ever - courtesy centurions Aaron Finch and David Warner. © Reuters Playing his first ODI in over six months, Bumrah, and even Shami, struggled to hit the right lengths and barely troubled the Australian opening duo. The Indian seamers were initially too full and then overcompensated by going too short. And, the familiarity with the conditions due to the IPL experience saw Warner and Finch making merry as batting became easier under lights. On the other hand, the spin bowling duo of Kuldeep and Ravindra Jadeja, too, looked ordinary while conceding over five runs an over. But, the weakest link in the Indian bowling attack turned out to be Shardul Thakur who bowled just five overs and was plundered for 43 runs, conceding almost nine runs an over. In the eight matches he has played so far, this was his 3rd ODI wherein he went wicketless. To make matters worse, Shardul, who bagged the 'Man of the Match' award in the last T20I against Sri Lanka, has struggled for success since 2019 and remains one of the most expensive bowlers in the 50-over format among those who have bowled a minimum of 20 overs. His economy rate of 6.49 in ODIs is the second-highest among all Indian bowlers who have bowled a minimum of 50 overs bowled in the 50-over format. © Twitter/@BCCI âTotally outplayed in all three departments. Itâs a very strong Australian team, and if you donât play well enough, they will hurt you. In phases, we were too respectful against their bowlers and didnât take the game by the scruff of the neck. Itâs another challenge to bounce back from here,â Kohli had said after their tame loss. But, a closer look at India's tactics in the 1st ODI reveals that their decision to play all three openers disrupted the flow in their line-up. Playing Rohit, Dhawan and Rahul meant that India had to make do without a middle-order specialist - something that they dearly missed in the middle-overs as wickets kept tumbling. © Reuters Furthermore, accommodating the prominent trio made India rely on Shardul's batting lower down the order which also didn't pay off as he could only score 13 runs. And, the key impact came on the bowling line-up that India had to persist with five bowlers and rued the absence of a sixth bowler, even a part-timer who could give the hosts some respite when their bowlers were getting clobbered all over the park. Finding themselves in a must-win situation, the Kohli-led India need to stick to the basics and bring normalcy back to their line-up, especially in the upcoming clashes in Rajkot and Bengaluru, where the pitches are expected to be flatter and the boundaries relatively shorter. The time for tinkering with the playing XI is over and the hosts need to get it right in the 2nd ODI, else it will be their second straight ODI series loss to Australia at home. View the full article

China unveils new leadership line-up, no obvious Xi successor
ADMIN posted a blog entry in Geo News Blog
China's new Politburo Standing Committee members (L-R) Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang and Li Zhanshu, arrive to meet with the press. Photo: Reuters BEIJING (Reuters) - China?s Communist Party revealed its new leadership helmed by President Xi Jinping on Wednesday, breaking with recent precedent by failing to include a clear successor to the president among the seven-man line-up. Apart from Xi, Premier Li Keqiang was the only one to retain his spot amid sweeping changes on the Politburo Standing Committee, the height of power in the world?s second-largest economy. Li Zhanshu, Wang Yang, Wang Huning, Zhao Leji and Han Zheng were promoted, replacing five retiring members including anti-corruption chief Wang Qishan, a key Xi ally. All seven are in their 60s, and for the first time no Standing Committee member will have been born before the 1949 Communist revolution. Guangdong party secretary Hu Chunhua and Chongqing party boss Chen Miner had been previously seen as prominent contenders to succeed Xi among the party?s so-called sixth generation of leaders but were not included in the Standing Committee. Instead, both were named to the wider 25-member Politburo, a rung below the Standing Committee. Xi and Li were first promoted to the Standing Committee at the 17th Party Congress in 2007, in a clear signal that the pair would succeed Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao and occupy the top two offices, as transpired five years later. But Sun Zhengcai, another sixth-generation contender, was abruptly removed from his post as Chongqing party secretary in July, signaling the likelihood Xi would delay naming a successor and adding to speculation that Xi could seek to stay on in some capacity beyond the end of his second term in 2022. Li Zhanshu, who is considered the closest to Xi among those newly promoted, will likely head China?s largely rubber-stamp parliament, analysts and sources have said, having held a chief-of-staff style role as head of the party?s General Office. The parliament position will be formally decided at the annual meeting of parliament in March. Zhao Leji, the head of the party?s Organisation Department which oversees personnel decisions, replaces Wang Qishan as head of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection after being named on the anti-graft body?s list of members on Tuesday. A new Central Military Commission was also announced. Xu Qiliang stayed on as one of its two vice chairmen, while Zhang Youxia, who is close to Xi, was named its other vice chairman. -

Champagne corks ready to be popped as Joe Root lifts the trophy, England v West Indies, 3rd Investec Test, Lord's, 3rd day, September 9, 2017/Getty Images NOTTINGHAM: England supremo Andrew Strauss has admitted his side will head to Australia for the defence of the Ashes in just over a month´s time still uncertain over their best Test-match XI. But he insisted Joe Root could join him as a victorious England captain "Down Under" despite the lack of "absolute clarity" regarding the composition of the side just a week ahead of an expected squad announcement. England may have enjoyed series wins over South Africa (3-1) and West Indies (2-1) but they ended their home Test campaign pretty much where they started it -- with doubts over the identities of numbers two, three and five in their batting order. Tom Westley has yet to convince at number three, having made five successive single-figure scores prior to a 44 not out in a modest and victorious run chase against West Indies at Lord´s this month. Dawid Malan has fared better at number five without nailing down a place while Mark Stoneman is the 12th opening partner Alastair Cook has had since Strauss himself retired five years ago. "There are going to be opportunities there in Australia for guys to make a very strong case for a long-term England career based on performing well when it really counts in Australia," Strauss, the England and Wales Cricket Board´s director of England cricket told reporters at Trent Bridge on Wednesday. "I´d be lying if I said we were going to Australia with absolute clarity on what our best XI is. We´re just not in that position at the moment." Turning to the problems England have had in filling his old position, Strauss said: "I would resist any narrative that says we have been chopping and changing willy-nilly. "I think the reality is the secret to a long England career is not how good you are, it is how consistent you are and those guys have not been consistent enough," he added. Dawid Malan has fared better at number five without nailing down a place Nevertheless, Strauss -- who led England to a 3-1 Ashes triumph in Australia in 2010/11 -- is adamant Root, for whom the Australia tour will be his first overseas assignment as a Test captain, could match his achievement. England will be desperate to exact revenge for the 5-0 drubbing they suffered in Australia in 2013-14, even though they wrested the Ashes back on home soil in 2015. Australia too have concerns about the make-up of their side, both when it comes to their batting and the fitness of some key fast bowlers. "The reality is there are two teams with really strong assets and some vulnerabilities," said Strauss. "Our challenge is to start the tour well. If we start well, hit the ground running and some of those guys who have not played a lot of Test cricket get an early score, then I think we are in a great position to win." ´Biggest challenge´ As for what lies in store for Root in Australia, Strauss said: "It´s the biggest challenge an England captain will ever have. "There´s all sorts of reasons for that. A lot of them are off-field. You are living in this incredible bubble for a long period of time, everything is directed towards you as England captain in terms of being responsible for what´s happening on the pitch. "But also the conditions in Australia are very changeable from one venue to another, to different periods in the game, and you need to be able to adapt to those conditions you see in front of you. "That is why at the back end if you are able to win -- certainly for me it was my greatest moment as an England captain, and I think Joe will be incredibly motivated to do that early in his captaincy career. "He´s got a great chance, he´s got his own way of thinking about the game and that will stand him in very good stead in Australia." The first Ashes Test takes place in Brisbane from November 23, with further matches to follow in Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.
