  1. Hard work is important and so is experiencing failure. If you don't succeed at the first attempt, don't lose hope and give up. Gather yourself and try again. And again. And again, until you succeed. Facebook Phoenix, an adorable little kid was in his martial arts class, trying to break a board. He did not have to break the board to advance to the next level, but he still wanted to do it. Phoenix's proud mother shared the emotional video on social media. Facebook Before I continue with Phoenix's story, let's give a big shoutout to his friends and the instructor. These are the kind of friends people deserve to have in their lives. After some failed attempts, Phoenix was very dejected and was in tears as he couldn't succeed. Suddenly, the room was filled with echoes of kids chanting Phoenix's name, cheering him up and encouraging him. Finally, the kid broke the board and taught us one of the biggest life lessons - Never give up, no matter how hard things are in life. Childhood is a crucial time for any and every kid. The things they learn in their growing years, shape their personality and future. While they learn a lot of things in life, sometimes, they end up teaching us adults some valuable life lessons with their innocent acts. Just like how Phoenix taught us to never give up.
  2. An Indian student named Sainath Manikandan in Abu Dhabi has developed robots to help protect marine life and minimise human labour on farms. That's so cool, right? Sainath is a student at GEMS United Indian School and he has built not one, but two robots, which is quite impressive. He hopes his innovation would be implemented on a bigger scale in the UAE. @DianaAward #DianasLegacy We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Goumbook's Drop It Youth Ambassador, Sainath Manikandan, has been awarded The @DianaAward for his work as an environmentalist and is driving change in his community by campaigning. Congratulations Sainath!!! pic.twitter.com/P6BPvfozP7 — lalitha manikandan (@lallimanikandan) July 3, 2018 His first robot is called MBot Cleaner. It's essentially a Marine Robot Cleaner that helps preserve the marine environment. The other robot called AgriBot, as the name suggests, is an agriculture robot that will help reduce the labour of farmers who work in countries with high temperatures, like the UAE. According to him, the MBot is a prototype robot that can remove floating waste from surface water. “MBot is a prototype robot that can remove floating wastes from surface water. It is basically shaped like a boat and can be operated remotely with a radio control. It runs with two motors that help the boat move in the water," Manikandan said. © Twitter The robot's wheel and the third motor are fitted with popsicle sticks to help push waste from the water bodies into the storage basket. He also noted the robot can be powered by solar panels instead of batteries. The AgriBot, on the other hand, will help the farmers in hot countries like the UAE by performing elementary functions involved in farming, such as ploughing the field, sowing seeds, and covering the seeds with soil. “The robot is autonomous and provides the facility for the optional switching of the ploughing system when required,” he said. Manikandan said, “Recycling just one tonne of paper can save 17 trees, 7,000 gallons of water, 380 gallons of oil, 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space and 4,000 kilowatts of energy.” Last year alone, Manikandan collected nearly 2,500 kgs of paper and 250 kgs of plastic.
  3. They say that God often heeds the prayers of young kids. The reason cited is pretty simple and straightforward. Children are innocent and their hearts are pure, uncorrupted by the world's twisted ways of existence. Their earnest wishes, and innocence make them God's most favourite subjects. Not sure about the bit involving God, but everything that has been said about young kids being truthful and full of innocence and goodness is absolutely true. © Pixabay They will share their chocolate with you without a second thought, throw a fit of terror and shed a tear for the deer that lost its life to the leopard on National Geographic and hoot every time the hero wins over the evil monster and save the day! Above all else, kids are honest about their thoughts and selfless with the love and kindness that they have to share. A rather strange incident from Northeast is proof of all this that we just pointed out. © Flickr A little boy accidentally ran over his neighbour's chicken while cycling. Heartbroken and sad, the boy rushed the chicken to the nearest hospital along with all the money he had. A picture showing the boy carrying the chick has since gone viral on social media. The silent plea for help on the kid's face is heartwarming. We hope this boy and many others grow up feeling for every living being around them, and grow up to be young men and women who respect and care for every life on earth. The comments section of the post is filled with praises for the boy's kind gesture. A user wrote, “this kind of humanity, innocent and pure”, while another blessed the young boy in the comments. Many others have praised the little boy's parents for raising a child who knows how to care, while another user suggested that adults take a lesson from the kid. How a thoughtful act has brought so many people together.
  4. After nearly a month of public humiliation and hate speeches by cricketers and fans alike, which eventually led to massive self-loathing by Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul for their juvenile comments at Bollywood director and actor Karan Johar's talkshow, Koffee With Karan, the Board of Cricket Control in India or BCCI's Committee of Administration, has finally decided to lift the ban on the young stars of the Indian cricket team on Thursday. © Instagram "The Committee of Administrators ("CoA") had, by emails dated 11.01.2019, and in exercise of Rule 41(6) of the Constitution of BCCI, suspended Mr. Hardik Pandya and Mr. K.L. Rahul in view of the allegations of misconduct against them, pending adjudication of the allegations under Rule 46 of the approved BCCI Constitution," the CoA said in a press release. "Since the adjudication of all allegations of misconduct against any cricketer registered with, inter alia, the BCCI is required to be undertaken by the BCCI Ombudsman, whose appointment is pending directions of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India, the CoA is the of the view that the interim suspension orders dated 11.01.2019 should be presently lifted with immediate effect. "The above matter and decision has been taken with the concurrence of the Learned Amicus Curiae, Mr. P.S. Narasimha. In view of the above, the suspension orders dated 11.01.2019 is immediately lifted pending appointment and adjudication of the allegations by the BCCI Ombudsman," the release said. With the ban now lifted, pacer Hardik Pandya has now been asked to join the Men in Blue for the ongoing ODI series in New Zealand which India lead 1-0 following a brilliant bowling attack by Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav. ICYMI: India all-rounder Hardik Pandya will join the side on their ongoing #NZvIND tour. DETAILS â¬ï¸https://t.co/5MQdubt3w8 pic.twitter.com/nR3nd1T9RY — ICC (@ICC) January 25, 2019 KL Rahul, who was going through a major struggle on the crease even before the ban took place, during the Border-Gavaskar Test series in Australia, has also been given the opportunity to regain his confidence by joining Rishabh Pant in the India A squad, scheduled to take on the England Lions in a three-game one-dayers in Trivandrum. Karan Johar on the other hand showed his relief upon hearing the fortunate news for the two of India's finest. "I am so happy to hear that the ban has been lifted. I am so relieved and grateful. They deserved another chance. I am glad that the Board has given them this chance," Johar expressed as reported by The Times of India. Whatever the duo said during the show was wrong, there are no two ways about it but, they have paid for more than what they had bargained for during their banned-stint in India. What is of essence is the fact that both Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul are exceptional cricketers and their presence in the Indian roster for the upcoming 2019 ICC World Cup may be crucial.
  5. NASA is already really cool. I mean, anything related to space will always be cool and I recently discovered something new that makes NASA even cooler. (Sorry for the overuse of the word 'cool') With every International Space Station mission, there's a group photo of the crew but who says they have to be boring? No one wants to see the same posed picture for every mission so the astronauts got a little creative and made the group pictures super cool and only a little cringey. Recreating an iconic movie poster for every mission, seems like the astronauts had a lot of fun adding a little more pop culture to space. Here's 'The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy's' almost exact recreation. © NASA The 'Armageddon' poster with just a few more people. © NASA 'Harry Potter', all grown up. © NASA Almost exact, down to the barefeet. © NASA This one's a little awkward, I agree. © YouTube This one is so cheesy, I can't even, © YouTube 'Transformers' looks pretty cool, I have to give it to them. © NASA And last, the beloved TV show 'Firefly'. © NASA
  6. Vampires are a fascinating subject for people of all ages. While school kids get their share of intrigue from the 'Twilight' franchise, many of us have enjoyed watching 'The Vampire Diaries' ourselves. Here's a list of 7 vampire-based shows that you can binge-watch with ease: 1. The Vampire Diaries- Let's start with the cult favourite. Damon and Stefan Salvatore, when not fighting for the love of Elena, are fighting vampires of all kinds and it's kind of fun. 2. The Originals- If your brain wanted more of Klaus and the Originals, then this is your visual treat. The Original family has a spin-off for their own selves and their fans. This one will answer a lot of questions that VD raised for you. 3. True Blood- This has been loved and hated in equal measure; so, if a mix of more vampire drama, mystical creatures and flying magic is what you want, might as well give this one a shot. 4. Vampire High- This Canadian show ran back in 2001 which has a group of teenagers who turn into vampires and have to mingle with mortal school kids. Eventually a lot of drama follows which is interesting. 5. Dracula – This follows Bram Stoker's version and twists it a bit. This one is based in England and has the Dracula posing as an aristocrat in the modern world. A dark twist (which we won't reveal) leads to a lot of turbulent drama in Dracula's life.
  7. Just a month ago, Sonali Bendre posted a heartfelt note on her social media accounts, sharing the heart-breaking news with her fans that she has been diagnosed with cancer. But, she made sure to tell everyone that she's taking this battle head on and is getting the best treatment there is to better the condition. Sometimes, when you least expect it, life throws you a curveball. I have recently been diagnosed with a high grade cancer that has metastised, which we frankly did not see coming. A niggling pain led to some tests, which led to this unexpected diagnosis. My family and close friends have rallied around me, providing the best support system that anyone can ask for. I am very blessed and thankful for each of them. There is no better way to tackle this, than to take swift and immediate action. And so, as advised by my doctors, I am currently undergoing a course of treatment in New York. We remain optimistic and I am determined to fight every step of the way. What has helped has been the immense outpouring of love and support I've received over the past few days, for which I am very grateful. I'm taking this battle head on, knowing I have the strength of my family and friends behind me. A post shared by Sonali Bendre (@iamsonalibendre) on Jul 3, 2018 at 11:46pm PDT She has been battling metastatic cancer and is currently in New York, where she is undergoing treatment for the same. She also occasionally posts on her Instagram with updates and shares her positive outlook in life, even when she's dealing with so much right now. In the words of my favourite author Isabel Allende, “We don't even know how strong we are until we are forced to bring that hidden strength forward. In times of tragedy, of war, of necessity, people do amazing things. The human capacity for survival and renewal is awesome.” The outpouring of love I've received in the last few days has been so overwhelming… and I'm especially grateful to those of you who shared stories of your experiences in dealing with cancer, whether it was your own or of loved ones. Your stories have given me an extra dosage of strength and courage, and more importantly, the knowledge that I'm not alone. Each day comes with its own challenges and victories and so for now, I'm taking this #OneDayAtATime. The only thing I'm trying to be consistent about is maintaining a positive outlook... literally #SwitchOnTheSunshine - it's my way of dealing with this. Sharing my journey is also part of this process... I can only hope it reminds you that all is not lost and that someone, somewhere understands what you're going through. ð¤ð Thank you @tomoarakawa for making this a chic transition from long to short! A post shared by Sonali Bendre (@iamsonalibendre) on Jul 10, 2018 at 12:20am PDT She's always shown appreciation for all the people she's surrounded with, all the people who want nothing else but for her to win this battle and come out stronger. From the moment he was born 12 years, 11 months and 8 days ago, my amazing @rockbehl took ownership of my heart. From then on, his happiness and wellbeing have been the centre of anything @goldiebehl and I ever did. And so, when the Big C reared its ugly head, our biggest dilemma was what and how we were going to tell him. As much as we wanted to protect him, we knew it was important to tell him the full facts. We've always been open and honest with him and this time it wasn't going to be different. He took the news so maturely… and instantly became a source of strength and positivity for me. In some situations now, he even reverses roles and takes on being the parent, reminding me of things I need to do! I believe that it's imperative to keep kids involved in a situation like this. They are a lot more resilient than we give them credit for. It's important to spend time with them and include them, rather than make them wait on the side-lines, not being told yet instinctively knowing everything. In our effort to protect them from the pain and realities of life, we might end up doing the opposite. I'm spending time with Ranveer right now, while he's on summer vacation. His madness and shenanigans help me #SwitchOnTheSunshine. And today, we derive strength from each other #OneDayAtATime A post shared by Sonali Bendre (@iamsonalibendre) on Jul 18, 2018 at 11:29pm PDT As everyone knows, today is Friendship's Day, and if you have incredible friends, they'll come to celebrate with you, wherever you are in the world. Sussanne Khan, Gayatri Oberoi and Hrithik Roshan are those kinds of friends and Sonali shared a picture with them saying, “I am extremely grateful to my friends, my pillars of strength, who at a moment's notice, arrived to be with me and help me through this. In between their busy schedules they find time to visit, call, message, FaceTime... basically never leaving a moment for me to feel alone.” This is me. And in this moment, I am really happy. People give me strange looks when I say that now, but it's true and I'll tell you why. I am now paying attention to every moment, looking for every opportunity to find joy and #SwitchOnTheSunshine. Yes, there are moments of pain and low energy, but I am doing what I like, spending time with people I love, and feeling very loved and happy. I am extremely grateful to my friends, my pillars of strength, who at a moment's notice, arrived to be with me and help me through this. In between their busy schedules they find time to visit, call, message, FaceTime... basically never leaving a moment for me to feel alone. Thank you for showing me what true friendship is. #HappyFriendshipDay, ladies. Blessed to have you all in my life (including the ones not in the picture... You know who you are) @gayatrioberoi @suzkr P.S. Nowadays I spend far less time getting ready because I don't have to fuss over my hair! ð#BaldIsBeautiful #FindThePositive #OneDayAtATime Picture credit: @hrithikroshan A post shared by Sonali Bendre (@iamsonalibendre) on Aug 4, 2018 at 10:28pm PDT Yes, bald really is beautiful! Everyone gets by with a little help from their friends, and it's the best thing in life to find those friends who will always be there, no matter what.
  8. Mothers are the most selfless beings on earth. Their love is unconditional. From staying awake at nights to change our wet nappies to pulling all nighters with us during our board exams, our mothers have been there with us through thick and thin, and without ever asking for anything in return (besides, expecting us to fill the water bottles during summer). We are hardly ideal kids, but each mother is an ideal mother. Her love has no expiry date, her care never discriminates. (C) Facebook/Ankush Bahuguna They have stayed hungry for us, they have worked with aching bones and stiff backs, they have sacrificed their happiness thousands of times for us. And we? We have thanked them with our indifference, with our rude dismissals, with our shut doors and noise-cancelling headphones. They do not deserve that. (C) Yash Raj Films They shouldn't have to work with breaking bones and sleepless eyes. They shouldn't have to miss out on their life, in trying to make our lives blissfully perfect. No, ma, you don't have to stay till late just to make me dinner. You don't have to miss your favourite Hindi film on television just because I want to watch 'Game Of Thrones'. You have every right to live life on your terms. I know you must have made sacrifices growing up as a girl, as a woman in our society. You may have missed that movie when your father/brother/husband wanted to watch something else. And now you happily do it for us. No more, ma, no more. (C) MensXP I know, the sacrifice is inbuilt in you. Your motherly instincts thrive on sacrificing – every little happiness, every little desire, every last bit of mithai, every last ounce of kheer you made. The world has put you on the altar of sacrifice and you have happily obliged. We get it – it comes naturally, and it can't be helped. You can't be at peace if your children are even slightly inconvenienced. But ma, be a little selfish. Take care of your own self. We children would love that. (C) Facebook/Ankush Bahuguna For the sake of your children, take the liberty to live life like you want. We will understand. Just like you love, our love has to be unconditional too. Children, by default, are selfish. But we will understand. There are times when a mother has no option – when she has to starve to let her children eat, when she has to stay awake to protect her kids, when she has to fight the world for her child. Help those mothers, ma. You have raised me well enough to take care of myself. You did a good job, mother. You deserve more. (C) Youtube Do not worry about us, ma. You've been in a thankless job, every day, every week, every year – with no break, no salary, besides your actual paying job. I wish we could return those lost years, those years of back-breaking toil but time cannot be reversed. But I say this now, and I say it for every mother and mother-to-be – claim your life as your own. Take care of your children but don't lose yourself in the process. Motherhood is beautiful but so are you. We will be perfectly all right if you don't make our beds for us. (C) Yash Raj Films The society has always been hard on mothers. It has expected them to be superhumans and they have been so. But in the process, they have lost pieces of themselves, literally and figuratively. A mother's love is so pure, it makes her oblivious to her own needs and suffering. She is consumed by this love and devotes her entire being to one goal – her child, her family. What happens when the child grows up and flies away leaving an empty nest? Our parents, especially our mothers, live through us, their happiness dependent on ours. Let's give them the gift of self-love. As the millennial generation, we know all too well the beauty and the significance of loving yourself. (C) Youtube Let us tell our mothers to worry a little less about us, and worry a little more about themselves. Tell your mom this: Ma, spoil us with your love but allow yourself to be spoiled too. Buy that expensive saree; go on that all-women trip (don't worry about dinner; we'll whip something up without burning down the house); let us oil your hair and give you a head massage for a change; let us bring you breakfast in bed (though you will still be waking up earlier than us). Ma, don't hesitate in telling us you want to see that old Shammi Kapoor film playing on television today. Go out with your friends; if we don't come home on time, don't make dinner for us. If we sleep late, don't do our tasks for us. Claim your life and make us claim ours too. This is for every mother out there – you deserve all the happiness in the world. Take it; it's yours. 9. Making a difference with content driven cinema in 2017, Rajkummar Rao showed us the powerhouse of talent in him, in films such as 'Trapped', 'Bareilly ki Barfi' and 'Newton'. Not only did he win the National Film Award for Best Actor in 'Shahid' but also won our hearts with diverse roles in his early films like- 'Ragini MMS', 'Kai Po Che!', 'CityLights' and 'Aligarh'. With so many challenging roles in a span of 7 years and being a critic's favorite, Rajkummar Rao has since proved that there is no looking back for him. © UTV Motion Pictures In 2018, Rajkummar Rao has left us confused once again with his upcoming releases - 'Fanney Khan', 'Stree', '5 Weddings' and 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga' (ELKDTAL). Let us see why. In his upcoming films, while he can be seen playing characters he has already played earlier, Rajkummar Rao seems to clearly differentiate them from his previous outings. It will be interesting to see how Rajkummar Rao adds his personal touch to each of his forthcoming releases: 1. 'Fanney Khan' - releasing on 3rd August 2018 Going by the trailer of his next project 'Fanney Khan', Rajkummar Rao brings back the vibe of the badass Babua Pritam Vidrohi from his 2017 sleeper hit 'Bareilly ki Barfi'. © Twitter Starring alongside Anil Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rajkummar Rao is sure to bring alive the rangbaaz actor in him in this inspiring comedy, which is a remake of the 2000 Belgian film, 'Everybody's Famous'. 2. 'Stree' - releasing on 31st August 2018 His next film with Shraddha Kapoor is a horror movie, which is based on a ridiculously true phenomenon. © Instagram Though his character details are yet to be revealed, going by the teaser, it reminds us of his super-natural indie drama Ragini MMS. With the tagline “Mard Ko Dard Hoga”, hope this one too gives us enough spine-chilling moments. 3. '5 Weddings' - releasing on 21st September 2018 In '5 Weddings', we will see him don the avatar of a police officer opposite Nargis Fakhri. The last time we saw him as a police officer was in 'Talaash' (2012 film) alongside Aamir Khan. © Twitter Given that both the films belong to different genres, his avatar in '5 Weddings' seems to be more relaxed and romantic compared to his intense character in the latter. 4. 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga' (ELKDTAL)- releasing on 12th October 2018 Featuring alongside Anil Kapoor once again in 'ELKDTAL' and opposite Sonam Kapoor, the film is a family drama. Just like his previous films - 'Queen' and 'Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana', the theme of this film is also centered on marriage and romance. © Instagram Hopefully, the film directed by Shelly Chopra and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajkummar Hirani, gives him his necessary due as a mainstream commercial actor. P.S. - All of the above films will have a fresh pairing opposite Rajkummar Rao in the lead.
