The Alienware Aurora R8 Is A Beast Of A Gaming Desktop That Makes Games Look Like A Dream

I know the first thing that pops into your head is “I can make a decent gaming PC build for cheaper, why would I buy this?" Well, to be honest, that is a very valid and warranted question considering you can build your own PC for cheaper. Having said that, the Aurora R8 is not only a powerhouse but also comes with benefits that you may not get while building your own PC. The version we tested comes with an RTX 2080, 32GB RAM, NVMe SK Hynix 256 GB SSD and an Intel Core i9-9900K processor. However, the Aurora R8 also comes for a cheaper configuration that comes with Intel Core i5 9600K processor, Nvidia GeForce GTX1060 (6GB graphics), 8GB RAM and a 2TB hard drive which costs Rs 1,40,880 in India. Our review units cost Rs Rs 2,80,120 which is not far from what we managed to build last year. The only difference being here is that we built it from scratch with a different processor and an RTX 2080 ti. Design The new Aurora R8 doesn't look any different from its previous models as it has the same UFO-inspired chassis. It has the same aggressive angles and minimal RGB lighting. The Alienware logo on the front lights up and can be in sync with the other RGB lighting on the cabinet. These lighting colours can be controlled from the Alienware Command Center application. In terms of ventilation, both the front and left side of the cabinet has holes. The cabinet also has ventilation holes at the top, which is quite a staple in any PC cabinet today. Having said that, for something that costs almost Rs 3 Lakhs, we would have preferred to see a premium finish on the cabinet. It feels very plasticky, which is never a good feeling, even though it has been reinforced with metal. It would have been awesome to see a more premium finish rather than having it mostly made out of plastic. © BCCL The case remains the same with the supplied keyboard and mouse that comes with the Aurora R8. We would recommend you use your own keyboard and mouse, as neither were fit for long periods of gaming. The mouse was not ergonomic enough for a firm grip while the keyboard felt very flimsy. © Dell When it comes to ports and connectivity options, the Aurora R8 has three USB ports, a headphone jack, one USB Type-C port just at the front of the cabinet. At the back, there are 8 USB 3.0 ports, a USB 3.1 Type-C port, an Ethernet port, an SPIDF port if you want to connect a home theatre, and a display port. The number of ports available on the Aurora R8 is enough for any PC gamer but is also handy if you want to stream or become a content creator. With so many additional ports, you can plug-in many types of accessories such as a USB Microphone, a Webcam and other peripherals such as an Elgato Stream Deck. © Dell One of the most essential features of a desktop gaming PC is to have the ability to upgrade your components. The Aurora R8 is fairly easy to get into, however, you will need a Phillips head screwdriver to get going. Cable management looks neat and in order to get access to the rest of your components, you need to unlock two additional switches. You can then access your GPU, PSU, RAM, CPU and cooling components. What's cool is that you can upgrade any of the components without having a fear of voiding the warranty. Performance Our review unit came with an RTX 2080 which we reviewed last year when it launched in India. It is a powerful GPU that can deliver impressive FPS at 1080p and 2K resolution. We tested the Aurora R8 with Battlefield 5 and Metro Exodus. With ray tracing on the game ran between 45 - 50 FPS at 4K with ultra settings, however, the FPS would average about 112 - 125 FPS on 1080p (FHD) resolution with the same settings. On Metro Exodus, the Aurora R8 was able to achieve 87 FPS in FHD and around 53 FPS in 4K resolution. Please note both games were running with high ray tracing settings and on the latest Nvidia drivers. © MensXP According to our Afterburner data, the CPU reached an average clock speed of 4.2 GHz and had an average temperature of 52 degree Celsius. The RTX 2080 would hit around 75 degree Celsius which is similar to what we experience with the FE RTX 2080 earlier in the year. If you are looking to use the Aurora R8 as a content creator, you will be happy to hear that this machine can render videos with impressive performance. In our handbrake tests, we could transcode a 4K video to 1080p in less than 8 minutes. The read and write speeds are also one of the fastest we've experienced as the machine was capable of copying 5GB of data in precisely 7.8 seconds. The Final Say While it is cheaper to build your own desktop with similar specifications, you do, however, lose out on Dell's customer service and guaranteed warranty. The Aurora R8 may cost a bomb for most users, this gaming desktop PC is for people who do not want to build their own PC and want added benefits such as good customer service. Personally, the fun lies in building your own PC, but the Aurora R8 is for someone who does not want to take the extra headache and want something personalised out of the box. -
Fans finally got to see the video game adaptation of 'Avengers' when Square Enix revealed the trailer of the upcoming game. While the majority of fans were excited, we got to see a trailer with characters that did not resemble any of the stars from the movies. The game was revealed at E3 this week and the game is set to release on May 15th 2020. © Square Enix While we are quite excited about the game, fans of the franchise weren't too pleased to see their characters having a very generic look. Fans on Twitter reacted with a very disappointed tone and noted that the characters neither sounded or looked like some of their favourite characters. None of the characters in the game share a likeness or even a similar voice to the superheroes we are used to in the big screen. The game is set to release on PS4, Xbox One, Stadia and PC.

Apple has finally turned to the dark side as the Cupertino giant made the new feature official for iOS 13. The announcement came at Apple's annual WWDC event and the company showed off some applications running in dark mode. Some of these apps include Music, Calendar, Notes, Maps and Messages. (c) Apple The new dark mode will finally be available for iOS devices later this year when iOS 13 rolls out. Google announced its own dark mode feature at I/O last month and is already available to use in the beta version of Android Q. Dark Mode takes inspiration from macOS's Mojave operating system where there isn't a huge difference on the Home screen. Things, however, change after unlocking the iPhone where apps like Music, Maps and other applications that have a darker interface. There are also differences in the interface in other Apple applications like messages, emojis, keyboard and photos. "He may have aged, but he's still a lion uncaged!" We are not saying this, the makers and scriptwriters of 'Bharat' are, in this latest dialogue promo that was released today. Well, we don't know when Salman Khan's transition from being a 'Tiger' to a lion happened, but he's fierce regardless. And this promo is just a glimpse of how 'Bharat' is going to be much more than Salman romancing and dancing with Katrina Kaif and Disha Patani. T-Series In case you didn't know this already, the movie is a remake of the South Korean hit film 'An Ode To My Father' and will see Salman Khan in different characters ranging from an 18-year-old to a 72-year-old. T-Series We have already seen in trailers and teasers how Salman will look like as a circus artist or as a Navy officer, now it's time for us to see how an old Salman (probably in his 70s) will look like, while fighting with goons. T-Series The 20-second video shows a grandpa Salman being bullied by some goons. As expected Salman's 'andar ka boodha sher' awakens and he thrashes all of them with his bare hands (something only he can do). Is it just me or the action scenes and Salman looked strikingly similar to how he was in 'Kick' (only some years older)? Maybe, if 'Kick' makers ever plan to make a series, here's how Salman will look like in 'Kick 20'. Nawazuddin Siddiqui has time and again proved that he is a stellar actor. This time, his brother Shamas, who is also his manager, is trying his hand at direction and Nawaz is playing the lead role in his directorial debut, 'Bole Chudiyan'. Mouni Roy has been paired opposite Nawaz in the film. The makers have now released the first looks of the characters. Nawaz will be seen playing the role of Mouni's passionate lover. It's an unusual pairing indeed and it will be interesting to see how they create a spark on the big screen. In one of the posters, Nawaz can be seen standing against the wall and it seems like he is in deep thought, pondering over something, and Mouni is seen peeping from behind a door and has an intense expression on her face. Mouni, in a short span of time, has conquered Bollywood. Xiaomi's Redmi phones have been a huge hit for the company. So much so that 'Redmi' is now a separate sub-brand. So far the Redmi has been limited to the budget segment, but the company is about to change that with its upcoming flagship device - the Redmi K20. The Redmi K20, in case you don't know, is a flagship phone, and Xiaomi officials have been calling it the 'flagship killer 2.0'. We still have to wait for it to launch officially to see if it's really a flagship killer, but we do know quite a bit about the phone already, including a picture of it. Rumored Specs That We Know So Far The Redmi K20 has been confirmed to sport Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 SoC, which means the phone will enjoy its space as a flagship phone alongside the Mi 9. As a flagship phone, it's safe to say that it'll carry a minimum of 6GB of RAM, although you can also expect an 8GB RAM variant. © Weibo As for the optics, the Redmi K20 will feature triple cameras on the back. There is a new trend that Instagram fitness gurus seem to be really embracing right now: Outrightly bashing cardio. Now it's because either they have little to no knowledge of training or they want to speak against the norm for the sake of grabbing attention. If your goal is to look aesthetically pleasing, you want to have muscle and lose fat as well. When both these things are nailed down, you get that physique you have always wanted. There was this study in 2012 that studied exactly the same. They took some men who wanted to lose fat and split them into three groups: 1. Group A did only cardio 2. Group B did only weight training 3. Group C did weight training and some cardio The study was done over the course of 8 months and this is what the research found: 1. The cardio group lost the most amount of weight. Along with this group, the weight training and cardio group also lost a similar amount of weight. © Getty Images With this, we can say that doing just cardio or doing a combination of weight training and cardio is good to lose weight. Cardio is the common factor here in training styles. 2. The weight training group did not lose as much weight but they built some lean muscle mass over the course of the study. The group that did weight training and cardio also gained some lean muscle mass over the course of the study. With this, we can say that doing weight training or doing a combination of weight training and cardio is good for gaining muscle. Weight training is the common factor in this case. Looking at this, you probably may think that if you want to gain muscle, you just need to do weight training and if you want to lose fat, you just need to do tonnes of cardio. Sadly, this is the reality in most gyms. Uneducated trainers who think binary and in a single-dimension approach training this way. Let's look at the benefits of weight training along with muscle building: 1. It improves bone density 2. It reduces sarcopenia or even reverses it 3. It protects your bones and joints 4. It makes you more functional Similarly, the benefits of doing cardio: 1. It improves heart health 2. It improves your endurance 3. It makes you more functional Though there are downsides of doing too much cardio, neglecting it altogether is plain stupid. The key point most people miss out here is 'too much' cardio. © Getty Images Sure, you can get jacked without doing any cardio but how good is that when you climb two floors of stairs and are panting? Oh, and the improved endurance would have a carryover effect to your lifting too. So how much cardio should you do and when should you do it? Typically, these are my recommendations as a coach: When To Do It? Post-workout or outside the gym and away from your weight lifting. This is to ensure you do not deplete your glycogen doing cardio and are fresh enough to do your best when lifting weights. How Much To Do? Depends on the style of cardio you are doing. You can do low-intensity cardio for more time or high-intensity cardio for a shorter time. If you are a beginner or weigh a lot, do low-intensity cardio as that will minimize the risk of injury. Low-intensity cardio - 3 to 4 sessions per week of around 30 minutes. High-intensity cardio - 2 to 3 sessions of 15 to 20 minutes each. So, stop following the cardio-bashers and do some cardio if you want to look aesthetically pleasing. Following the OnePlus 7 Pro box packaging, the official renders of the OnePlus 7 Pro have now leaked online. The renders have been obtained by the folks over at Android Central from a noted leaked Ishaan Agarwal, and it shows off the phone in all its glory. © OnePlus 7 Pro As you can see, the upcoming OnePlus 7 Pro will have an all-screen design on the front and a triple camera set up at the back. These cameras, in case you don't know, have 3x optical zoom too. The renders apparently feature the Nebula Blue and Mirror Grey variants and we gotta say that the phone looks absolutely gorgeous. Just look at that display! We can also see the alert slider on the right side of the phone along with the power button, whereas the volume rockers are on the left. Xiaomi has added two new budget phones to its line up called the Redmi 7 and the Redmi Y3. They both are essentially the same devices, except the Redmi Y3 is a selfie-centric phone, and it has a 32MP selfie shooter as opposed to the 8MP shooter on the Redmi 7. Redmi Y3 will go on sale starting 30th April with a starting price of Rs. 9,999. Let's take a quick look at what these two phones have to offer - Redmi 7 © Mi Redmi phones in the past like the Redmi 5, Redmi 6, etc. have always been best-sellers for Xiaomi. Now, the company has launched the new Redmi 7, eyeing for the top spot in the same segment. The Redmi 7 has a 6.26-inch HD+ 'Dot Notch' display on the front, covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Apart from the affordable price tag, if there's anything that should attract you this phone, then it's got to be the looks. Xiaomi is calling it the Aura Smoke Design, and it looks absolutely beautiful. The phone comes in three colors i.e. Eclipse Black, Lunar Red, and Comet Blue.
