  1. A couple of years back, a relatively unknown – at least in the Indian subcontinent – Hasan Minhaj furthered the politician-comedian parentification (don't look up the dictionary; the meme below explains the meaning of this word better) through his White House correspondents' dinner address. He took digs at the bigotry of Donald Trump & Co, but that didn't make much of an impact in India because, of course, we're stuck in deep shit of our own. © 9gag Over the course of this weekend though, the American comedian of Indian origin finally turned towards the subcontinent in an outright courageous, half-an-hour long episode about the upcoming Indian general assembly elections, on the second season of his Netflix original 'Patriot Act'. And since it touched a lot of nerves, India is kinda…umm abuzz. “Since [Narendra] Modi came to power, India has grown more hostile to minority groups. There's been a resurgence in religious nationalism, specifically Hindu nationalism, the idea that India is a Hindu nation,” opens the monologue. Ha! How dare? A bunch of trolls on my Twitter, and some of you reading this on MensXP (judging by the quality – or the lack of thereof, of a lot of comments on our Facebook page), would disagree. But the bad news for you guys is that he backs it up with solid facts (not Whatsapp forwards and 4Chan theories) to tell you how almost 300 people have been physically assaulted (including the 50 killed) in cow-related violence in India. But I don't expect this lot to understand, let alone be empathetic. After all, I was called a 'cow-eater' just last week on a metro ride to work, because I had put on a kurta (serious offence in this day and age of pigeonholed points of view). So Hasan's Pakistani (then Qatar and then Iran) spy joke hits home instantly. Me reading the comments on the latest episode. https://t.co/dSUYanFAuD pic.twitter.com/btFPPyvoE4 — Hasan Minhaj (@hasanminhaj) March 18, 2019 That's not the only talking point from the episode. An unflinching Minhaj goes on to poke fun at the Indian TV media community that is drawing the ire of international compatriots, especially for its role in the coverage of the recent Indo-Pak tensions. More TV anchors let out war cries than the concerned people and more TV studios were turned into battlefields than the actual ones. If truth be spoken, sane debates – both on air and off it, seem like a distant memory. Trust me, I'm an ex-Muslim man in the 'media business,' and get to physically interact with maybe more people than the average Indian bhakt. In his own style, Minhaj also interviews Indian National Congress' outspoken Member of Parliament, Shashi Tharoor for the episode (FYI, he failed to get a response from the Bharatiya Janata Party and, going by his Twitter handle, Chowkidar Narendra Modi, 'who is the first PM in the country to never hold a press conference'). The comedian goes on to revive the age-old joke of the direct proportionality between an Indian politician and the number of criminal charges against them. For crying out loud, he confronted Tharoor about his wife's murder during their interview. It's a real moment of pride when this is the actual state of Indian media at present. And finally, he also addresses the He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named of Indian politics, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) (yes, my name is Khan and I'm not a terrorist). Minhaj calls upon their problematic history and Narendra Modi's close ties with them, with reference to the rise of right-wing politics across the world in the recent past. Apart from Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adiyanath's 'Aap Ki Adalat' appearance with Rajat Sharma (another TV anchor with dicey political ties), former chief MS Golwalkar deciding to name his book 'A Bunch of Thoughts' also became the butt of his jokes. I didn't listen. #NowStreaming pic.twitter.com/7fnuDuaImW — Hasan Minhaj (@hasanminhaj) March 17, 2019 The Twitter troll army, surprisingly, did stay away from going all-out in harassing Minhaj (at least in the first 24 hours of the episode's release), despite him poking ample fun at Modiji & Co. That's, in some ways, a testimony to the narrative's middle-of-the-road approach, and in a lot of ways an unlikely masterclass for Indian TV media. Well, these were my bunch of thoughts on the show and how Minhaj's rational, hilarious, and neutral take on the Indian political climate, and the dire state of our TV 'journalism'. Without further spoilers, here is the entire episode; check it out.
  2. For Lotus Fashion Week 2019, Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi, a renowned campaigner against child labour, led a group of designers to pledge a child labour-free production in the Indian fashion industry. © Twitter "There are about 500 million children in the world who are forced into child labour. Through this pledge, we promise to stop hiring children at workplace," Satyarthi announced. © Twitter The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) has collaborated with Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation (KSCF) to launch #Notmadebychildren campaign. The campaign aims to stop child labour in India's fashion and textile industries. This movement, according to Satyarthi, and the initiative is the "start of a new movement in India". © Twitter Designers like Rina Dhaka, Rahul Mishra and Reynu Taandon were a part of the pledge ceremony.
  3. Life is too short to give in to the whims and negativity that pervades the virtual space today. Trolls can be found lurking in abundance at every click of the mouse and turn people's lives into a living hell with their unsolicited hate comments and opinions. It doesn't take much for online trolls to attack unsuspecting people on social media platforms, and they don't spare the individual on the other side of the illuminated screen, whether that is a man, woman or child, or even a celebrity for that matter. The only thing a troll knows when they set out to troll the shit out of an individual is this wrong belief that they somehow have the authority and upper hand to spew hate and negativity directed at an individual. © Pinterest All of which may or may not have come from any personal impact or motivation, these trolls go about brandishing their sharp words and wound people. Though majority of people who get trolled choose to “stay mum and ignore” such nuisances, every once in a while we also come across those who step up and give the trolls a taste of their own medicine. © Twitter Recently, India Today released a preview of its latest episode of 'Jab We Met' on Twitter featuring host Rahul Kanwal and guest Ananya Birla, the heiress of the Aditya Birla Group and daughter of Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla. The short video showed Ananya, a UK club level footballer in a football faceoff showing off her skills. It's a football showdown between @ananya_birla & @rahulkanwal this weekend on #JabWeMet. Ananya is also a UK club level footballer and has given a whole new meaning to the word multi-talented. Watch the special episode tonight at 9:30 only on India Today TV. pic.twitter.com/ihKWOaqGEu — India Today (@IndiaToday) March 9, 2019 However, a Twitter user decided to take a dig at Ananya following the launch of the episode preview, by showing disregard for all of Ananya's personal merits and reducing her and her achievements to her father's legacy and wealth. Reporter reporting on millionaires daughter — GurpreetSgill (@gurpreetgill) March 10, 2019 The user left a comment stating “reporter reporting on millionaires daughter”. This didn't go with Ananya and instead of ignoring it she called out her troll and gave him a piece of her mind, by not only pointing out that every person has their individual merits to show for, but also that he is wrong in calling her father a “millionaire” since he is actually a billionaire. So? I'm human too ð we achieve things on our own esteem too and we must share that. And just btw, my dad is a billionaire not a millionaire. ðð¤ sorry not sorry âð½ https://t.co/YtX4YM05Rm — Ananya Birla (@ananya_birla) March 10, 2019 We think Ananya had the perfect response for her troll and we sure need more of such approaches when dealing with trolls who have nothing more to do with their lives than drop baseless opinions everywhere they go.
  4. The twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League is about to start in less than a month and the hype is escalating on a Godly level. To add fuel to the fire, the new promo has been launched and it surely does justice to all the madness that surrounds an entity that is potentially the most loved league in the country. 8 teams, 1 motto - 1 trophy ð The countdown to the 2019 #VIVOIPL begins ð§®âï¸ðð ARE YOU READY? pic.twitter.com/rk9h1gd8ng — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) March 5, 2019 In the new promo, a creative parallel has been drawn between the professional cricketers who represent the country on the international level and the young enthusiasts who keep the craze going on the streets. The minute-and-a-half footage deals with the two sides trying to fight against each other over the desire to play the game of cricket they both love equally. Both try to crush the other side behind the wall and acquire as much of the playing space as the can. There's a moment when the 'gully boys' are gaining advance over the Men in Blue, who are now dressed in the colourful jerseys of the cities they will be representing in the upcoming season and Thala aka Mahendra Singh Dhoni, makes an epic entry for his boys, driving a massive road-roller into the equation. This may be a tribute to Mahi's ability to show up in the clutch and like a superhero, single-handedly finish the game in favour of his side. MSD, however, also shows other characteristics of a superhero as he gets rid of the 'wall' that divided the young fans from the players, bringing the youngsters to his side. When one of the aspirants comes forward to introduce himself, the captain of Team India and Royal Challengers Bangalore, Virat Kohli stops him in his way and says: “Name chhodh… Game dikha.” This seems to be the narrative that is going surround this IPL season. With numerous new striplings making their way to all the glitz and glamour, it is their game that will help them make their name in the cricketing world. Fans on Twitter are running out of ways to praising this new promo: BEST IPL ADDDD EVER......ð¤©ð — Rahul Chakrabarty (@rahulchoco7) March 5, 2019 @iamkarthi_V Best promo till date. :) — Prabhu Kandasamy (@PrabhuK_PK) March 5, 2019 Entry of msâ¤ï¸ — Vamshi (@svamshi183) March 5, 2019 ð¥ð¥ð¥ðð — Ràjá RãjPûT (@Prabhat17605793) March 5, 2019 Brilliant!ð ð¶ðµð§ðµð¶ — Kedar Kulkarni (@outwidit) March 5, 2019
  5. Yes, the Indian cricket team lost the two-match T20I series against the visiting Aussies and yes, it is for the first time in 40 months that the Men in Blue have lost a series on their own soil. It's just one of those things you can't and mustn't complain about. This is where the sportsman spirit steps in: to be equally content in wins and losses. Major props to Glenn Maxwell who delivered under extreme pressure to seal the deal for the Australia cricket team and also made a case for himself before the selections of the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 as he scored an unbelievable 119 off just 55 deliveries. But we are here to talk about 'Thala' himself! Mahendra Singh Dhoni, at 37 years of age continues to show the batting and fitness abilities of a 25-year-old athlete. Flexible Dhoni â¤ð¥ 2.14m ðpic.twitter.com/fTnSwULGTP — Ponraj (@goking2000) February 28, 2019 In the 11th over of Team India's innings, Dhoni went of out the crease to try and hit a big one but Adam Zampa's delivery went on to be wide, completely out of the Indian batsman's range. His wicket-keeping instincts quickly took over as he extended his right leg for an astonishing 2.14 metres to get inside the line to avoid being stumped by Australian keeper Peter Handscomb. The third umpire gave a decision in favour of the batsman as the replay showed that Dhoni was too quick and well inside the crease for Handscomb to knock the bails off. Mahi had shown off his flexibility once before as well in a match against New Zealand in November 2017. 6. The Indian Army is the largest standing volunteer army in the world, which is not only known for its bravado and daredevilry when it comes to standing guard over their motherland, but its soldiers also inspire awe and unceasing respect for their selflessless service towards the nation. All of us feel strongly about these men and women who dare to face death in their line of duty. After all, we owe so much of the life we're living to them. It is their sacrifice and selfless passion to serve the country and its people, that allows us to enjoy the kind of safe and fun life we lead, day after day. © Twitter But how often do we stop to acknowledge their service and pay homage to their sacrifices? Well, a martyred soldier's 6-year-old daughter recalls her papa's lessons on the Indian Army, and it will remind you to take a moment and appreciate the numerous lives that constantly look death in the eye, so that innocent lives can be saved. © Honourpoint On 29th November 2016, Major Akshay Girish Kumar and Major Gosavi Kunal Mannadir were killed in an ambush in Nagrota, along with five other jawans. Two years since his passing away, Akshay's little daughter was seen recalling her father's teachings about the Indian Army in a video, which has since been actively circulated on social media. In the video Akshay's daughter Naina can be seen telling us what her father told her about the Indian Army. Check out the video here: A year after Akshay's martyrdom, Naina recollects conversations with her papa. Here she teaches us what 'Army is...' This random video captures innocence and faith. 7. 2018 ended on a horrible note for the former Indian cricketer Jacob Martin, who battled against time in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in critical condition following a road accident on 28th December and was put on a ventilator as his family felt severely short of money to continue with the expensive treatment. At that time, the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) sanctioned an aide worth Rs 5 Lakh out of the Benevolent Fund whilst former skipper Sourav Ganguly also showed his support. However, the greatest gesture was shown by cricketer Krunal Pandya who gave a blank cheque to Sanjay Patel, the former secretary of the BCCI and the Baroda Cricket Association while reportedly saying, “Sir, please fill up whatever is needed, but nothing less than Rs 1 lakh". With the good wishes of the fans of the cricketer and those of Indian cricket, Martin was successfully discharged from the ICU after spending almost a month under 'critical' status. Having said that, a pair of ruptured lungs and a failing liver takes a lot of care and treatment to get over. When the injuries are so grave, the rate at which the cash flows can reduce the wealthiest of families to mediocrity. In such testing times, former Indian opener KL Rahul emerged as the knight in the shining armour who reportedly made the biggest individual donation to the Martin family. Jacob's wife while having confirmed receiving the funds from the batsman refused to reveal the exact amount on the request of Rahul himself but Mumbai Mirror confirms that Rahul's hefty donation was the greatest made by anyone. “A big thanks to Rahul and everyone who has helped,” an emotional Jacob Martin expressed to the newspaper as the cricketers of the past and the present have come together to stand by the ailing athlete. Ever since India's Test series against Australia, KL Rahul has found himself to be off in his form before getting suspended for being a part of a controversial episode of a chat show alongside teammate and best-buddy Hardik Pandya. It can be excruciatingly difficult for an athlete to life through a stint of bad form with the public constantly hating on them for their deeds beyond the field and for Rahul to show up for a cause so noble right now, says a million things about how good the cricketer is at heart.

On the fourth day of Lakmé Fashion Week, Sanya Malhotra, the 'Badhaai Ho' star walked the Summer/Resort 2019 ramp for Alcis X Nari powered by R|Elana,c, a collection which is a result of a collaboration between Alcis Sports and designer Narendra Kumar. © Instagram What makes this collection special is the fact that the fabric used in this collection is manufactured by recycling using PET bottles. © Instagram Yes, we're talking about millions of used bottles of juices and fizzy drinks that go to waste every single day. Fast fashion entails all those multinational clothing brands that spring in the new seasonal trends weekly in the stores near you at mysteriously dirt cheap prices. There is an obvious hidden cost that you pay when you buy these clothes. What you don't realise is that you're harming the environment around you as these mass-produced clothes, which are not meant to last long in your closet, only create junk that makes the environment a toxic place to live in. This collection, however, brings sustainability to gym wear. Entirely made out of recycled polyester sourced from PET bottles incorporated with the latest technologies like dry-tech, anti-odour and anti-static, the collection features T-shirts, joggers, bombers, blazers, layered jackets and leggings in prints inspired by Indian textiles and Indian art. Take a look. © Instagram © Instagram © Instagram View this post on Instagram A post shared by Alcis (@alcissports) on Feb 3, 2019 at 12:28am PST This is precisely why you should switch to eco-friendly brands that help the environment become a better place for you.

  10. During the first of five ODI series between India and New Zealand, the Kiwis found themselves to be struggling early to find steady ground to tread on as an opener and all-time great Martin Guptill was stunned by Indian bowler Mohammed Shami in his first over. Fresh after a rewarding tour Down Under, where Shami proved to be extremely efficient as the fourth best bowler during both the Test and ODI series, Shami looked hungry for wickets as he came in on the attack and succeeded in registering his first scalp of the day by bowling out Guptill with an in-swing. 100 ODI wickets and counting for @MdShami11 ðð#TeamIndia #NZvIND pic.twitter.com/3RVvthg1CH — BCCI (@BCCI) January 23, 2019 With this wicket, Shami broke Irfan Pathan's record to become the fastest Indian bowler to take 100 One Day International wickets. While Pathan achieved this feat in 59 matches, Shami reached the landmark in 56 ODIs. Along with the two pacers, Zaheer Khan, Ajit Agarkar and Javagal Srinath make the list of the five fastest Indian bowlers to take 100 ODI wickets who did it in 65, 67 and 68 ODIs respectively. In the international scenario, Shami ranks sixth overall, tied with his current competitor, Kiwi Trent Boult while 2018's Afghani sensation, Rashid Khan leads the list, who required only 44 ODIs to establish the record. Shami went on to bag two more wickets of the second opener Colin Munro and Mitchell Santner as New Zealand were all out for a meagre total of 157 runs. Innings Break! 11. It's said that if someone offers you an amazing opportunity and you're not sure if you can do it, just say yes, and learn how to do it later, and that's exactly what young Rishabh Pant did when he was handed his International Test debut at the Trent Bridge. He started making a record from the very second ball he faced in Test cricket and since then, there has been nothing that could stop him. Following a magnificent IPL season, the Delhi cricketer shifted his gears forward and has never looked back since then. Being just 21 years of age, Pant has already created and broken many records, be it scoring his maiden century in England, or taking most catches in a single match, he has done it all. Let's go through all the records Pant has made or broken till now: © Reuters . He was the first Indian to open a Test account with a six, which came on his Test debut against England at Trent Bridge. He got off the mark by deposing Adil Rashid's googly into the stands, straight back over the bowler's head. . He became the first Indian keeper to score a Test century in England. . He broke another record when he became the first Indian wicket-keeper to take 11 catches in a Test, equaling the record of AB de Villiers and England's Jack Russell. . He also became the first Indian wicket-keeper to take 20 catches in a Test series, breaking MS Dhoni's record of 17 catches. . With his unbeaten 159, he also became the 1st Indian wicket-keeper to score a Test century in Australia. The Delhi cricketer also holds the highest score by an Indian wicketkeeper overseas, when he scored an unbeaten 159 against Australia in Sydney, overcoming Dhoni's record of 148 against Pakistan. . Pant became the first wicket-keeper with two Test hundreds as a 21-year-old.

  13. At a time when the comments made by Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul at film director and actor Karan Johar's talk show, 'Koffee With Karan' have made for one of the most trending issues buzzing all around, a lot of people were wondering what the Indian skipper, VIrat Kohli, had to say about the whole matter. After the 24-hour show cause notice levied by BCCI during which Pandya and Rahul were ordered to present their justification towards the indecent remarks made by the duo at the chat show, both the cricketers have been banned for two ODI matches upon the recommendations made by the Committee of Administrations Chairman, Vinod Rai. In the latest occurrence, the captain of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli, who had kept himself completely aloof of the whole issue, finally spoke on behalf of the entire squad. “We, definitely, as the Indian cricket team do not support views like that and that has been communicated,” Kohli said in a media coverage at the Sydney Cricket Ground ahead of the three-game ODI series against Australia. “I can definitely say that as the Indian cricket team and responsible cricketers we definitely don't align with those views and those are purely individual views.” But the additional comments made by Kohli is what makes him a great team leader. In an atmosphere of high tension where everyone is shaming Pandya and Rahul, Virat while showing his disagreement to their comments, didn't abandon them. “... the two concerned players felt what has gone wrong and they have understood the magnitude of what's happened,” Kohli didn't forget to mention. “Definitely, it has to hit anyone hard, they will definitely understand the things that have not gone right.” Kohli's take on the entire issue speaks volumes about his evolution as an aware captain. He feels responsible for his team both on and off the field and has been with them during the harshest of times. It's time for ODI cricket. When Sam Morrison, 27, decided to point out the rather conspicuous hypocrisy found in abundance in US President Donald Trump's tweets through flip-flops, he never imagined that his entire inventory will be sold out in a month. He decided to make physical flip flops that will feature a pair of Trump's contradictory tweets side by side, as a reminder of the huge question mark associated with the President's credibility and opinions. © Sam Morrison/Presidentflipflops Despite having no marketing budget, his flip-flops went viral, garnering an impressive response from media houses. 15. After a dominating 137-run victory in the 3rd Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, BCCI announced the final 13-man squad for the 4th and final Test match of the series scheduled to take place at the SCG in Sydney starting 3rd January 2019. Left-arm chinaman, Kuldeep Yadav is also included. Although all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin, who's recovering from an abdominal injury has been named as one of the final 13, a decision on his availability will be made on Thursday morning just before the match begins. While fans are more or less convinced with the roster, the BCCI is being criticised for selecting out-of-form batsman KL Rahul in the final 13. @imVkohli @BCCI @RaviShastriOfc why kl rahul is included in team again? Do you have some standard left? Is performance any benchmark or just good looks are req for team selection? Half baked dish is harmful for India at this stage. — Pushpinder Singh Sappal (@Pushpin63862765) January 2, 2019 This is seriously shitty team selection. @mvj888 Got a ð¯in practice match at SCG, and just dropped after 2 matches is not given a chance, whereas @klrahul11 Who has been given 19 test innings and has failed (other than one off in England) is preferred ahead. — Saurabh Khatod (@Saurabh105) January 2, 2019 The opposition to KL Rahul's inclusion in the squad may be well justified, as despite being given numerous opportunities to prove his worth, Rahul has failed to perform time and again. Before being dropped from the playing 11 for the 3rd Test, Rahul scored 2 and 44 at Adelaide and 2 and 0 at Perth. The fact that debutant Mayank Agarwal put up more runs than Rahul's combined total in just a single inning, really puts things into perspective. With India leading the series 2-1, the Men in Blue are on the verge of their first ever Test series victory against Australia on their home turf. If included in the final roster, KL Rahul's success or failure would most definitely play a crucial role.
  16. Colin O'Brady from Portland, Oregon just wrote history by becoming the first person to get across the Antarctica alone, with no outside aid. He trekked across the continent over a span of 54 days, which was almost considered impossible until the man did it, and achieved the impossible! While O'Brady made his journey across the 1,500 kilometres in the bone-chilling cold, his friends and family could track his movement real-time online. Once he successfully completed his journey, O'Brady called his family in Portland and said “I did it” through his teary exhilaration. View this post on Instagram Day 54: FINISH LINE!!! I did it! The Impossible First â. 32 hours and 30 minutes after leaving my last camp early Christmas morning, I covered the remaining ~80 miles in one continuous “Antarctica Ultramarathon” push to the finish line. The wooden post in the background of this picture marks the edge of the Ross Ice Shelf, where Antarctica's land mass ends and the sea ice begins. As I pulled my sled over this invisible line, I accomplished my goal: to become the first person in history to traverse the continent of Antarctica coast to coast solo, unsupported and unaided. While the last 32 hours were some of the most challenging hours of my life, they have quite honestly been some of the best moments I have ever experienced. I was locked in a deep flow state the entire time, equally focused on the end goal, while allowing my mind to recount the profound lessons of this journey. I'm delirious writing this as I haven't slept yet. There is so much to process and integrate and there will be many more posts to acknowledge the incredible group of people who supported this project. But for now, I want to simply recognize my #1 who I, of course, called immediately upon finishing. I burst into tears making this call. I was never alone out there. @jennabesaw you walked every step with me and guided me with your courage and strength. WE DID IT!! We turned our dream into reality and proved that The Impossible First is indeed possible. “It always seems impossible until it's done.” - Nelson Mandela. #TheImpossibleFirst #BePossible A post shared by Colin O'Brady (@colinobrady) on Dec 26, 2018 at 12:55pm PST His wife Jenna Besaw said in an interview, “it was an emotional call. He seemed overwhelmed by love and gratitude, and he really wanted to say thank you to all of us.” 33-year-old O'Brady posted about the first leg of his journey on Instagram, which he labelled as 'The Impossible First'. On Wednesday, O'Brady wrote that he covered the last 129 kilometres in one big impromptu push to the finish line that took over a day's time! View this post on Instagram Day 50: STRUNG OUT BUT STILL MOVING. I can't believe I been out here all alone for 50 days. Even having lived it, I can't quite wrap my mind around it. This wind storm still has not subsided so I spent another day getting beat down. Fingers crossed I catch a break on the weather soon. I've been writing a lot about the mental game as it's clearly the most crucial part of this challenge (or any challenge for that matter). However today I want to honor my body and health. I wholeheartedly believe that nothing in life is more important that being healthy. Without that it's hard to do or do fully. I'm so fortunate to have parents that instilled that in me from a young age, teaching me the importance of healthy eating and exercise. My dad is an organic farmer so I guess you could say it's in my blood. Despite feeling exhausted and worn out, I'm grateful for having lived a healthy lifestyle, for without that I'm certain my body would have given up by now. And on the health front, I'm glad to be partnered with @Grandrounds who go above and beyond to guide people to the highest quality healthcare. Even though I'm 50 miles past the South Pole now, I can't help but post one more image from the day I arrived - a dream come true. Plus, today is a very historic date. On December 14, 1911, this day exactly 107 years ago, Amundsen became the first person to reach the South Pole. Talk about inspiration. That was a true journey into the unknown that took years and years to complete. I finished a bike ride in 2016 and got the spark of inspiration for this project. I immediately came home and wrote it all down on my whiteboard. Since that day I've been working everyday to turn this dream into reality; training, fundraising, researching. The key is that each day I took a step toward making my dream a reality even with countless setbacks and mistakes made along the way, I kept trying. I haven't realized the dream yet. That's what I'm doing every day out here...taking step after step to make it come true. Whatever you are dreaming of in life, be that in business, art, music, love, entrepreneurship, sports - it can be anything. Stop just dreaming and take the first step. As in the immortal words of Walt Disney, “If you can dream it, you can do it!!” But dreaming alone won't get you there. If it's going to work, action is required. #TheImpossibleFirst #BePossible Shoutout to @samuel.a.harrison for snapping this amazing shot of me. I can safely say that's 100% true in this case, and I'd say it's very possible I haven't yet felt the highest highs and the lowest lows of this journey yet. In November, this is what he had to say, “There were several times I considered stopping, putting my tent back up and calling it a day. I wanted so badly to quit today as I was feeling exhausted and alone, but remembering all of the positivity that so many people have been sending, I took a deep breath and focused on maintaining forward progress one step at a time and managed to finish a full day.” View this post on Instagram January 2016 at the South Pole. 17. 'Thor: Ragnarok' is one of the best Marvel movies ever, don't even fight me, and it seems like 'Men In Black: International' looked at that and thought, “I need some of that”. And it looks like everything worked out perfectly to give us a 'Ragnarok' reunion movie of sorts, with Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson as kickass agents. We all loved Thor and Valkyrie together, we know the actors have great chemistry so we can already guess that 'MIB: International' is going to be great and the trailer probably shut up a lot of people who were complaining about the absence of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith. The movie follows Tessa's character Agent M as she joins the Men In Black and then follows orders to go to London, where she learns the ropes from Agent H, played by Chris Hemsworth, the alleged best in the biz. The trailer is packed with funny moments and the song 'London Bridge' by Fergie in the background makes everything even better. But, the best part of the trailer, honestly, comes towards the end. The makers saw the chance to make a Thor reference and they went for it, and it's honestly beautiful to see. Here's the travel size Mjölnir making a cameo. A petition to give Chris Hemsworth a hammer in literally every movie he does ever. Also, he hasn't learned anything, he still didn't aim for the head. Come on, Thor, don't disappoint us! 18. Soaring high up in the sky, maneuvering a loaded, uber-hefty aircraft under your able hands, and zooming around the sky fighting enemy planes in the sky, is a dream many young boys come to live for. However, the same cannot be said for young girls, who usually do not even consider being fighter pilots on most perfect days. © TOI But this scenario might be changing real soon because young women are now constantly proving that sky is indeed the limit when it comes to dreaming big, and living it too. One such stellar example is that of Priya Sharma from Rajasthan, who decided to go all out and turn her dream into a reality by donning that hat of India's 7th woman fighter pilot, in the otherwise male dominated industry. © TOI Not just that, Priya has now also become the 3rd woman fighter pilot to come out of the western state. As per reports, out of the 139 cadets that graduated from the Indian Air Force academy in Dundigul, only 35 were fighter pilots and Priya happened to be the only woman amongst the lot! It was her father's posting at the Air Force station in Karnataka that first sowed the seed of becoming a fighter, and well there was no going back on it with her graduation now! © BCCL This is a proud moment for our nation, but more so for the young girls and women, who had so far stuck to more “regular” career choices in this field. © Panchayat Times Earlier with Avani Chaturvedi who made history by flying solo on a fighter jet, and now with Priya joining the league of female fighter pilots in the country, we can only wish them greater successes in the future.
  19. Arguably one of the most popular and iconic cricketers in the country, Mahendra Singh Dhoni will probably go down in history as one of the greatest contributors to Indian cricket. If his blistering middle-order batting aided his team in pressure situations, Dhoni's commendable leadership allowed the Indian team to scale new heights in international cricket. And then, there is his unbelievable wicket-keeping skills. His ability to influence a match in different ways is what eventually allowed him to become the pride of the nation. His unorthodox style has struck a chord with cricket fans across the globe. While he has already retired from the longest format and his fans have been surely missing him during India's ongoing tour of Australia, cricket enthusiasts got a glimpse of MSD at the Mzansi Super League (MSL) - thanks to Rashid Khan. While Dhoni himself wasn't playing in the South African T20 league, the Afghanistan cricketer reminded everyone of the former Indian captain by successfully emulating his signature 'Helicopter Shot' during the clash between Durban Heat and Tshwane Spartans. ðððððð @MSL_T20 @durban_heat ðð»ðð» pic.twitter.com/0yfE6NnQWt — Rashid Khan (@rashidkhan_19) December 13, 2018 Chasing a competitive total of 188 runs, the Durban franchise suffered early setbacks but Albie Morkel's breathtaking innings kept them in the hunt. With 50 runs required off 23 deliveries, Rashid came out to bat after the dismissal of Keshav Maharaj on the first delivery of the 17th over. With his side desperately in need of some boundaries, the Afghan cricketer got into the act right on the very first delivery he faced. The 20-year-old smacked Lutho Sipamla for a towering six over the deep-midwicket by successfully pulling off Dhoni's 'Helicopter Shot'. Though Rashid couldn't do much later as he was eventually dismissed on the third delivery he faced, the Afghan spinner surely made Dhoni and his fans proud by unleashing the 'Helicopter Shot'. 20. Over the years, Premier League has taught us many things. But, the most important lesson is: big-spending clubs don't like to lose. And, why would they? These giants, with less patience and more money, are doing everything. They're splurging big bucks on the managers, dishing out astronomical weekly wages to the players and then, there is some business aspect that needs to be taken care of as well. For these clubs, not winning or deriving favourable results, often leads to the sacking of the manager. Sans the sacking part, everything listed above has happened at the hallowed Old Trafford. But, their fortunes haven't improved (at least not as of now). You see, big clubs can buy mega-buck players and they can rope in shrewd tacticians as managers, but money will never teach them how to play together as a team, as a unit - a problem that has plagued United this season. For a team that has won 11 Premier League titles, Manchester United currently find themselves languishing at the seventh spot (14 points below their city rivals). And, the fact that Everton, a club much smaller in size and stature than United, is trailing the Red Devils by a point in the table sums up their season so far. © Reuters The United fans are bewildered with the team's ever-frustrating slump. The players are bemused with the coach's questionable tactics. And, the coach is entangled in a cold war with the club's top brass. For United, victories seem like a far-fetched dream - one that is capable of not only enticing the fans, but, as it turns out, the manager too. The frustrating 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace over the last weekend did push Man Utd and their fans over the edge, with Jose Mourinho publicly claiming that the clash against Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League was the last chance for their star players. With their reputation and last 16 berth on the line, Mourinho's men had a point to prove at the Old Trafford. But, there was a lot of frustration before the eventual relief. Lacking creativity in the midfield, and, belief and togetherness they need to challenge for titles and trophies, United rarely looked in control of the game. After Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellaini wasted good chances and the hosts appeared to have run out of ideas, Mourinho and a packed Old Trafford finally had a sigh of relief when the Belgian struck in the injury time - United's 21st effort at goal. © Reuters Fellaini's goal allowed United to secure a much-needed 1-0 win and their berth for the Round of 16 stage in Europe. For those who haven't followed United this season or are unaware of their troubles, Mourinho's reaction to Fellaini's last-gasp winner should sum up what it meant for the Red Devils and the Portuguese himself. 27.11.16: Jose Mourinho sent off for kicking an innocent water bottle 27.11.18: ðpic.twitter.com/vVqN75NTdQ — Full Time DEVILS (@FullTimeDEVILS) November 28, 2018 At the touchline, Mourinho resembled Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain who famously marked the end of particularly satisfying gigs, at times, just individual songs, by reducing his guitar to splinters against the nearest amp. While the United manager didn't have a guitar to dispose of, he perfectly channelled his inner rock god as he took out his emotion on a basket of bottles. Well, who needs a guitar when you can pull off a Nirvana moment with some water bottles. There hasn't been this much disdain for a watercarrier at Old Trafford since the great Eric Cantona meltdown when he was asked for his opinion on international teammate Didier Deschamps. While Rio Ferdinand claimed that it was an attempt to grab the limelight, Mourinho couldn't disagree more. "The ones who comment on football, not a lot of them have been on the touchline. 21. Ahead of their highly-anticipated tour of Australia, the Indian cricket team, owing to their form, was expected to give their opponents a run for their money in the T20Is and ODIs. But, despite their marauding run this year, even the Indian cricket fans knew that Virat Kohli & Co will face a sterner test in the longest format. The four-match Test series, after a 1-1 draw in the T20Is, is what everyone has been waiting for. A strong and rising Team India taking on a depleted, but still dangerous, Australian brigade in testing conditions is a contest that has the potential of making any cricket fan's day. Will Kohli score a hundred? Can Rohit Sharma silence his naysayers with a crucial knock in Tests? Can Indian batsmen survive the challenge posed by Aussie quicks? Or will the Test series against India mark a new age in Australian cricket which is struggling to find its feet after the shambolic ball-tampering scandal? We don't know the answers to these questions yet, but one thing is for sure: it will be a cracker of a series. © Reuters The Indian cricket team might be high on confidence, but they will definitely be wary of Australia going into the Tests. Thus, unlike their South African tour, the Kohli brigade was eager to play their warm-up games. In a bid to get accustomed to the Australian wickets and conditions, Team India was scheduled to play a practice game against Cricket Australia XI. But, incessant rain played spoilsport on Day 1. Unable to get any gametime, the Indian team was aided with an additional day which has been added to their practice game to make up for lost time. But, if anyone knows Kohli, they'll know that there is no such thing as downtime in the Indian skipper's dictionary. While others might have used the rain stoppage to do other things, Kohli and a couple of teammates decided to make it count. The movie was a thoroughbred admiration for the band that gave us many hits in the two decades they were actively making music and it has simply done justice to the life and death of the legendary Farrokh Bulsara aka Freddie Mercury. © 20th Century Fox A group of four 'misfits', as they best describe themselves, were every bit of rock 'n roll, beatnik hippies and rock lovers that we grew up listening to. The sunshine glam band that only passed the 'buck' while making fun of Freddie's buck teeth, instead of blunts, was every bit of 'let's do anything to never die at 27' kinda foursome. Bryan spends the 2.5 hours of the movie touching every bit of Mercury's key milestones as an artist, including his flamboyancy on and off stage, his way of making music and his strange yet powerful relationship with his best friend- Mary Austin, played by Lucy Boynton. © 20th Century Fox The movie starts with the young twosome Roger Taylor and Brian May performing at a nightclub with their band 'Smile'. Farrokh offers his singing skills to them, as their front man and lead vocalist since their earlier vocalist Tim Staffell has left the band. After a brief banter between the three, where they make fun of Freddie's buck teeth, he is given a chance to perform at a gig and apart from the racists slurs the audience throws Farrokh's way, he's loved by everyone because of his unique voice, that reaches a 5 octave vibrato, very easily. A talent no one else possessed back then. The three along with bassist John Deacon form the band 'Queen' and the rest is very-'easy come, easy go'! © 20th Century Fox What I found as the defining moment for the movie was Queen bringing 'Bohemian Rhapsody to life'. A lesser known fact revealed about the song was that it was discarded as 'bullshit' by the EMI record executive Ray Foster, who also believed young people wouldn't break their necks dancing to a '6 minute song'. I believe what he said was 'it goes on forever, six bloody minutes', to which Freddie replied 'I pity your wife if you think six minutes is forever'. The leap of faith the boys take after they leave Foster's office is phenomenal because the song broke every record on the hit singles chart and was the biggest hit of the 80's. Hell, I'd be damned if I don't find people karaoking to it even today at familiar bars around town. But the point is, the band is shown to have differences and dim moments where they bicker about irrelevant things, but they are also shown to be as close-knit as the ugly sweaters your grandma knits for you, whenever she gets a chance to. © 20th Century Fox The only thing I am not sure about though is if the band ever battled a guy named Ray Foster. He seems remarkably fictitious and there is no mention of him anywhere in history. Even so, the movie is worth the watch just to see how they actually came up with the epic song, especially the lyrics which define Mercury's death wish; like he knew he was going to die soon and he wrote a song about that, just to honour his wish and die with dignity, pride and a little bit of operatic theatre. But having said that, no one goes to watch a movie expecting a pristine history lesson to be honest. There was a lot a 2.5 hour movie couldn't fit into the reel. The two decades of tours and experiences the band had could only be justified through some famous tours they took and, of course, the biggest concert they ever played at- Live Aid. © 20th Century Fox Apart from the comforting relationship Freddie shared with his band mates, there was another solemnly beautiful relationship he had with a girl named Mary Austin. He was dating her for a long while until it was revealed he was gay. The confrontation of this fact is arbitly beautiful between the two of them where he tells her that he thinks he might be bisexual and she turns around and tells him 'Freddie you're gay and I have known this for a while' and goes on to say 'your life is going to be very difficult', which was a fairly moving moment for me because she was absolutely right. Even so, their relationship was dreamy yet powerful, something I'd aspire to have with someone, I am not sexually or romantically involved with. Freddie was at his vulnerable best with her and even wrote the song 'Love Of My Life' to commemorate his love for her. Ironically he never sang the song to her but sang it live at one concert and had thousands of people sing it back to him, which he later told Mary it felt great because it seemed like people were singing this song for her, instead. © 20th Century Fox Even with a simple yet complicated relationship like that, his loneliness and his lifestyle were simplified in the movie which dictated his choices, while living in England in the 70's-80's as a gay Indian rock star ('Pakkie' to most), who loved to party and have a visibly 'promiscuous' streak, as a part of his lifestyle. Freddie's life wasn't easy. Just as no celebrities' is. Especially when the movie discloses his loneliness pangs and his constant companionship with his cats, which was palpable throughout the feature. I was compelled to feel blatantly sad at how he lived his life, during his last days. © 20th Century Fox The movie ends with the famous Live Aid concert, held at Wembley which was telecasted globally to an audience that loved music in the 80s. Queen's last minute decision to participate in the concert gave the movie the extra edge that it needed. Queen had dismembered for a while before the concert, so coming back for it and practising just for a weak was a marvellous victory for them and for Freddie, who was living his last days, as he was battling AIDS. © 20th Century Fox Rami Malek has done a phenomenal job by playing Freddie Mercury and I believe no one could have pulled off this role better (yes, I mean not even Sacha Baron Cohen, who was considered for the role earlier). His toothy prosthetics and outlandish clothes to transform into Queen's front man will definitely shortlist him for the Oscar's is what I believe. His performance was to the T and he absolutely nailed the Live Aid concert shots by mimicking the exact gestures and body stances as that of Freddie's. It took him 1,500 views of the original video to perfect his own performance of it! If this guy doesn't land an Oscar, then no one should! © 20th Century Fox Apart from that, other cast members like Gwilyn Lee, who plays Brian May has an uncanny resemblance to him and delivers the OG Brian's part justly. Joe Mazzello plays bassist John Deacon and Ben Hardy Steps into Roger Taylor's shoes. They all have given power punch performances and have really given us a glimpse into Rock and Rock Hall Of Fame's favourite band. © 20th Century Fox I came out feeling overwhelmed and nostalgic all at once after watching the movie. When has Queen not been a part of your life? Be it singing Bohemian Rhapsody for a karaoke session, or going nuts every time and Indie band covers 'We Will Rock You'; or even heading to your favourite watering hole and hearing 'I Want To Break Free' for the hundredth time and not cringing for even a second for the blatant repetition. The movie is definitely worth a watch. Carry some extra tissues (in case you tear up, you perv) and an empty heart so you can leave with a heavy one, right after it's over. Watch the trailer here
  24. India is on an all-time high when it comes to its indigenous productions and successes. The Indian Space research Organisation, better known as ISRO happens to be one such organisation that has done India proud on multiple occasions. And ISRO has done it all over again by successfully launching India's heaviest rocket Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mark III (GSLV-MkII), that was carrying communication satellite GSAT-29 from the rocket port in Sriharikota. It is being reported that GSAT-29 has been launched for better communication opportunities in remote areas. The GSLV-Mk III weighs 640 tons and was 43.4 metres in height. The rocket took off from the Sriharikota port at 5.08 pm today. © Twitter Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated ISRO for the successful launch. Two more launches are scheduled before the year ends, with the GSAT-7A satellite for use by the Indian Air Force set to hit the floors later this month, and the GSAT-11, which was recalled from the launchpad in April year during pre-flight tests. Great work by the capable people at ISRO.
  25. A lot of people who come to me, are in a putrid state in terms of body composition. When I mean body composition, I mean primarily a total combination of posture, body fat percentage and lean muscle mass. This is mainly due to two reasons: - Their own mistake. they are living a sedentary lifestyle, no resistance training, eating junk food and severe nutrient deficiency. - On the other hand, are those who have lost weight in a wrong manner. In this piece, we will talk about the second group of people who lost weight in a wrong manner. Every day I meet people who have lost lots of weight but their body composition is such that, they are actually in the worst shape of their lives. The Difference Between Getting Thin & Getting Lean And Strong © YouTube In terms of weight loss, this happens primarily because people do not understand the difference between getting skinny fat and getting fit. The difference, by the way, is huge. This is also the case with most trainers and dieticians, who are ready to somehow show you a massive dip in weight on the weighing scale anyhow, to make you happy. Because that's what you want to see. Whenever you see a labourer working, he is not fit, he is thin. That's because of extremely low-calorie consumption and excessive physical activity. This is what most people actually do to get thin. However, the labourer is still ripped, because he is not doing tons of cardio a day, but primarily doing work which is a kind of high-intensity work, like digging, lifting & carrying loads, pulling or pushing movements etc. So he is basically overdoing the physical work, and undereating. Overdoing Cardio & Severely Under Eating © Thinkstock Images This is where the problem lies. The last thing an obese person needs is excessive cardio and a starvation diet. Long duration steady state cardio workouts are the worst prescriptions in this case. Excessive running coupled with a very low-calorie diet and you have a physiological disaster. The result is a drastic loss in water weight. Loss of the most precious component, muscle mass. A decline in the metabolism follows thereafter. Lose Fat, Get Stronger And Preserve Muscle Mass At The Same Time. That's Real Fitness! Anyone who needs to lose fat must first understand the difference between weight loss and fat loss and getting thin and getting fit. Resistance training and high-intensity cardiovascular workouts should always form the base of the training in such cases along with a healthy and nutritious diet. One single point I have been pressing upon again and again is that there is a big difference in weight loss and fat loss. It's the weight which most people aim for, which is simply a reduction in the needle on the weighing scale. This is what your dietician or slimming centre is an expert in showing you. Because it's easy. When you lose weight, you do lose a bit of fat, but majorly muscle mass and water. What's challenging is to lose fat, get stronger and preserve muscle mass at the same time. That's real fitness. How Do You Burn More Fat? © Thinkstock Images Muscle cells have a fat burning powerhouse called as the mitochondria. These mitochondria are responsible for the production of energy. More the muscle mass, more amount of mitochondria, and more the fat burning capacity of the body. The body needs a strong reason to produce more mitochondria. This reason is given by weight training and high-intensity workouts. These workouts create a large demand for energy above what your body can already produce and hence, the body is forced to create new mitochondria. What Happens When You Crash Diet? The exact opposite happens when you lose excess weight faster. You are slowing your metabolism down, as you are losing all your precious muscle mass. When you are training for strength, your muscle mass is going to go up. When this happens, your fat burning capacity goes up but also does go up your weight, because muscles are denser than fat.
