  1. In the mid-00s, there was a time when actress Mallika Sherawat was considered Bollywood’s *** symbol and was too much to handle for a certain section of people. Anything she did made headlines and she often found herself embroiled in controversies. One such controversy that had become the talk of the town was her New Year dance performance on December 31, 2006. Soon after her dance performance was televised, a case was filed against her by the former president of the Vadodara Bar Association, Narendra Tiwari. He had termed her dance performance “obscene”, according to Indian Express. © Instagram/Mallika Sherawat Months later, a Vadodara court had issued a bailable warrant against Mallika asking her to remain present during the court proceedings after she didn’t respond to the summons by the court. In 2013, the Supreme Court stayed Vadodara court's order and gave Mallika a breather in the case. Take a look at the “obscene” dance performance below: This was not all, there was also another controversy that had taken place days before the legal trouble. A report in Mumbai Mirror had stated that the performance was not supposed to be televised. After realising that it is airing on TV, Mallika had staged a walkout in the midst of her performance. When show’s organiser Ali Morani was asked about it, he said, “Yes, I got Mallika the deal. But beyond that, I really don’t know what happened.” © Instagram/Mallika Sherawat A source close to Mallika had told the website, “It was a clear breach of contract, and not on Mallika’s part. According to the contract, only 10 seconds of her performance on stage that evening was meant to be televised. Mallika was clearly given to understand that the brief 10-second footage would be used for news clippings, etc. When she realised that the whole show was being telecast, against the contract, she simply walked out.” View the full article
  2. Mallika Sherawat redefined sultriness for Bollywood heroines as soon as she made her debut. She wasn’t seen drenched in rain in a chiffon saree for steamy songs and dance numbers but rather, she debuted her bold, flirty and not-so sly moves. I mean, her dance step in the song ‘Jalebi Bai’ was what made the song so popular, that an international version also exists now that Gen Z taps their feet to. © Instagram/Mallika Sherawat However, since Sherawat was a pro at doing Hindi item songs with so much oomph, it was obvious she was offered strange and funny suggestions to make a song meatier and apt for the male gaze. The actress recently shared one such incident where a producer approached her with a ‘weird’ concept for a song sequence. © Instagram/Mallika Sherawat She recalled in an interview, “In his warped thinking, he was like, ‘Bada hot song hai. Audience ko kaise pata chalega ki aap hot hai? Aap itni hot hai ki aapki kamar pe main chapati sekh sakta hoon (It’s a very hot song. How will the audience know you are hot? You are so hot that one can heat chapatis on your waist).’ Some weird notion like that. Have you ever heard of anything like that?”. © Instagram/Mallika Sherawat Considering what we have been hearing about the film industry lately, this doesn’t come as a surprise. Good for Mallika, she turned down the cringe-worthy suggestion and didn’t go ahead with it. Or it would have been a new low for Bollywood. “I put my foot down. I said, ‘No, we are not doing any such thing,’” she said. © Instagram/Mallika Sherawat She also pointed out that the perception of the attractiveness of women in India was very different and “weird” when she was out in films, which is absolutely right. “I think they have a really weird perception of hotness in India for women. I don’t understand it. Of course, it’s better now but when I started my career, it was weird.” Is it better now, though? © Instagram/Mallika Sherawat She did think the idea was original and funny. Well, we cannot argue with that. “But I thought it was very funny and original. It’s an original idea,” she added. But seriously, kaun hain ye log? kaha se aate hain ye log? Bollywood mein. 3. The infamous casting couch has existed in the industry for ages, but it’s only now that actors have started to talk about it more openly without the fear of being judged. For the unversed, casting couch is defined as a demand for sexual favours by a person in a position of authority, in return for a part in a movie. Mallika Sherawat has now talked about the horrors of the casting couch. Though she hasn’t faced it, her problems started after she did bold roles in movies like Murder. View this post on Instagram In a conversation with Pinkvilla, Mallika was if she had faced the casting couch. She said, “I haven’t faced it directly... My rise to stardom, I was very lucky, it was very easy. I came to Mumbai, I got Khwahish and Murder. I didn’t have to struggle much. But after the movies, because Murder was such a bold movie, and that kind of a bold image was established, a lot of male actors started taking a lot of liberties with me, and they said if you can be so bold onscreen, so you can be bold with us in person also." View this post on Instagram She continued, “They did not differentiate between the onscreen and offscreen persona, so that is where I faced a lot of difficult situations, because I am a very strong woman, and I would tell the male actor, ‘I am sorry, I am not going to compromise’. I haven’t come to Bollywood to compromise, I have come here to make a career. That’s why they have never worked with me.” In an earlier interview, she said that she deliberately tried to 'stay away' from people who gave off bad vibes. She told Bollywood Bubble, “I've always, because all this happens when you put yourself in that position, I feel. I didn't go to Bollywood parties, I didn't meet any producer or director at night in a hotel room, or at night in the office. I kept myself away, and I thought, ‘Jo meri kismat mein hai woh mere paas ayega (I’ll get what is destined for me). I don't need to do all these things.” View this post on Instagram Mallika might not have faced casting couch horrors directly but the fact that male actors sought sexual favours from her shows how deep rooted the problem is and it's about time more actors start speaking out about it. 4. No one is a stranger to the fact that as much as Bollywood film industry entertains us, it is a place where work opportunities are seldom given to outsiders due to the culture of nepotism. Be it a producer, actor, or filmmaker, everyone likes pushing forward their own family members in the industry, often coming at the cost of millions of struggling actors failing to make the cut just because they don't belong to the industry. © Star World While we already knew that star kids have been known to be cast in projects, it is now revealed that the luxury is also afforded to girlfriends of the people in the industry. This is according to Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat, who says that even she lost out her place because of the director casting his girlfriend instead of her. © Netflix Malika starred in the 2007 Anees Bazmee film Welcome that had an ensemble cast of Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor, and Paresh Rawal. Without a shadow of a doubt, the film was a laughter fest and went on to become a classic Bollywood comedy that has a cult fan following. Mallika was integral to the success of the film due to her role in the film, however, despite the success of the film, she ended up not being cast in the sequel Welcome Back. Why? Because she was replaced by the director's girlfriend. She said, "Welcome ka sequel Banega toh director apni girlfriend ko hi dalega na usmein. Welcome 2 bana toh usmein apni girlfriend ko daal diya batao, ab main kya karun (If a sequel of Welcome will be made, then the director will only cast his girlfriend. When Welcome 2 was made, he cast his girlfriend in the film. What can I do about it)?" "This is true. When they make a sequel, they cast their girlfriend, the hero casts his girlfriend, what do I do then? I don't have any boyfriend in Bollywood, I have never been with any actor, director, or producer. With me like this is my work, if you think I am worthy of your project I would love to be a part of it. But if a director or a producer or an actor - if they want to cast their girlfriends then it's their choice. What should I do? That is the only reason I lost out (on Welcome Back)." said Mallika. The 2015 film featured some of the old cast of Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar, and Paresh Rawal while adding some new faces like John Abraham , Shruti Haasan, Shiney Ahuja, Ankita Shrivastava, Dimple Kapadia, and Naseeruddin Shah. © Prime Video However, despite that, the film failed to live up to the standards set by the first film. Mallika who is best known for films like Murder, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Darna Zaroori Hai, and Double Dhamaal, was last seen in the web series Nakaab. Whatever happens, it looks like she won't be starring in the Welcome series anymore, with reports suggesting that Welcome 3 and Welcome 4 will have John, Anil Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, and Nana Patekar on board again. 5. Actor Mallika Sherawat recently said that she never compromised on her morals and principles. Not only this, she also said that indecent proposals are made to people who put themselves in that position. Mallika was recently asked if she has been sexually propositioned by men in the industry, and she said that because of the image that she'd made for herself, people just stayed away from her. View this post on InstagramIn an interview with Bollywood Bubble, she said, “I haven't faced too much of it, but of course, a little bit of it I have. But I think they were all intimidated by me or scared of me. Mujhe proposition karne se pehle mere khyaal se woh log nervous se ho jaate the (They maybe got nervous before propositioning me).” She further added, “Their perception was that she is bold and she'll give it back; she's not a very shy or scared girl. So my image also helped me in a certain manner…” She said, “I've always because all this happens when you put yourself in that position, I feel. I didn't go to Bollywood parties, I didn't meet any producer or director at night in a hotel room, or at night in the office. I kept myself away, and I thought, ‘Jo meri kismat mein hai woh mere paas ayega (I’ll get what is destined for me). I don't need to do all these things.” View this post on InstagramShe said, "There were so many accusations and judgements on me. If you wear short skirts, kiss on screen then you’re a fallen woman with no morals. Men tend to take liberties with you. This happened with me too.” She told PTI, “I was thrown out of projects because heroes would say ‘why can’t you be intimate with me? You can do it on screen, what’s the problem in doing that with me in private?’ I’ve lost so many projects. It’s very reflective of the society, what women deal with in our country.” What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below! View the full article
  6. Controversy could easily be the middle name of every person in the Bollywood film industry, more so the actors and actresses, who are often judged and kept a close eye on by the fans. From their choice of clothes to their choice of films, everything is scrutinised and most times, it isn’t in a great light. One such actress who was type-caste as soon as she entered the industry was the actress Mallika Sherawat who rose to fame with her hit film Murder. © Vishesh Films The actress recently got candid in an interview and shared that her decision to leave the country for a while came after being bullied by a certain section of the media and press, that would go ahead and describe her as a ‘fallen woman’. Sharing her two cents on how she feels that it is only in the past couple of years that people have grown more tolerant and understanding towards Bollywood films and their content, she shared how it wasn’t so when she started out. View this post on Instagram “There was a lot of judgement, that ‘she has no morals’, ‘she is a fallen woman’, ‘look at the kinds of scenes she does, she wears a bikini, kisses on screen’. But it’s all a part of the experience, and I’m really happy that there has been a lot of growth in society. People have become more tolerant. Today frontal nudity is no big deal…,” Sherawat said. She then went on to disclose that, “A certain section of the media was very… They bullied me and harassed me. And that really bothered me, because… And most of them were women. Men have never had problems with me. Men have always appreciated me. And I couldn’t understand why these women are so against me, and so nasty to me. And that made me leave the country for a while because I wanted a break. But today they are more accepting of me, and they are more loving, which I’m really enjoying.” In fact, only recently the actress shared how a critic in the industry once compared her to a pornstar. She shared, “There was one critic who compared me to a pornstar and said Mallika is a pornstar. I don't have anything against them, it is not a judgement on them(the porn industry). But this is what the critics were writing, this is the low level they dropped into." View this post on Instagram The actress is now set to make her comeback with MX Players’s original series Nakaab where she will be seen playing the role of the dominating and power-hungry ‘Zohar Mehta’. 7. Mallika Sherawat made her debut with a 2003 movie Khwahish but rose to recognition and fame after her stint in the crime thriller Murder alongside Emraan Hashmi. The movie was a remake of Hollywood’s Unfaithful where Mallika played Simran, a married woman who has an extra marital affair with Hashmi’s character Sunny. © Instagram/Mallika Sherawat Apart from the songs and gripping storyline, the film grabbed attention for its bold scenes which was not as common in cinema at the time. Mallika Sherawat was perceived as this sizzling, sexy actress on the block by some, while some “morally assassinated” her for doing such scenes. © Instagram Speaking to an entertainment portal, she opened up about how she was typecast after the movie and seen as a fallen woman by the audience. She said, “When I acted in Murder (2004), I was almost morally assassinated for those scenes I shot; I was seen as a fallen woman. Today, those things I did back then are common in our films. People’s perceptions have changed. Our cinema has changed.” © Instagram/Mallika Sherawat It was, in fact, quite an unconventional role to play for Sherawat back in 2004. She went on to act in films like Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Welcome, and Double Dhamaal in the subsequent years of her career. © Instagram/Mallika Sherawat She further added, “But even now, when I think of it, nothing beats the cinema of the 50s and 60s. We had wonderful roles for women, but we lack that beauty in our films in a big way. I have waited for years to get a role that has substance.” © Instagram/Mallika Sherawat Murder completed 17 years which tagged Mallika Sherawat as a *** symbol. She has been a part of several films in her Bollywood trajectory, most of which shows her in a glamorous role. On playing different types of roles, she has said, “I want to play meaningful roles. I have missed doing that. People were approaching me for very glamorous roles, with a lot of money, but no soul in the character or meaning to it. It’s important to reinvent yourself after a period of time. If I do the same things that I have done before, you will only get vintage Mallika.” © Instagram/Mallika Sherawat She will next be seen in Vishal Mishra’s horror film, Rosie: The Saffron Chapter alongside Arbaaz Khan. Whether she will break out of her glamorous tag in this movie, we are yet to find out. View the full article
  8. With India battling the novel Coronavirus, the vulnerability and helplessness of people is apparent every day as they try to save their loved ones from the virus. India’s health infrastructure has almost collapsed because of the second wave of COVID-19 and the number of cases is climbing up every day. Just recently, Mallika Dua’s parents Vinod and Chinna Dua were also admitted to a Gurgaon hospital for COVID treatment. Mallika took to Twitter to seek help with the medicines. She reached out to celebs and Congress leader Deepender Hooda but it was the BJP MP and Minister of Civil Aviation Hardeep Puri who offered his number and informed her that the medicine had been arranged. Here’s the interaction that has been going viral on social media: © Twitter After the conversation went viral, people started targeting her and dug up an old video where she had wished death upon all ‘Bhakts’, a term used for the supporters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP. “All ‘bhakts’ ya. All these IT cell f*cks. They should just die,” she had said. Here’s the video that’s being circulated online: .@MallikaDua wishing de@th for Bjp Workers and RW ACC and BJP People are busy helping her and yet they are being called fascists by herself and her father Vinod Dua pic.twitter.com/271xDBpKw0 — रितिक ॐ |Amy Paaji Fan (@hehehihi619) May 16, 2021 People are mighty pissed as they’re offended by the BJP leader helping her as both Mallika and her father Vinod have spoken ill about BJP leaders in the past. One of the users even pointed out how her father Vinod attacked former PM and BJP leader Atal Bihar Vajpayee on his demise. You may think that even if someone is from opposite ideology, we should help them for humanity. But humanity is for humans, not poisonous snakes. This is what Vinod Dua said when Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji died. They don't even spare the dead, cheer when BJP workers are killed. pic.twitter.com/MTxxDfpvYC — Ankur Singh (@iAnkurSingh) May 17, 2021 Another BJP supporter Ankit Jain targeted Mallika Dua's privilege as he feels that many people are losing their loved ones but aren’t getting the support. It’s the privileged ones who are getting all the help. He complained about the fact that the injection for her mother was arranged by just a tweet where the minister was not even tagged. It is not about who voted for whom, it is about privilege. It is about an injection which is not available for a common man but is arranged without even tagging the minister. https://t.co/0UFk3LqNvv — अंकित जैन (@indiantweeter) May 16, 2021 Here are the other reactions: © Twitter © Twitter © Twitter Dua shot to fame with her comedy sketches on the work front, often tackling Delhi stereotypes four years ago, and has since been a social media sensation. In an earlier interview, she had described how her work had taken a toll on her. She said, “I feel a lot of pressure, every day. It takes a massive toll on your mental health. I didn’t start to appease anyone, it was purely out of my own happiness. It started as ‘you are good at it, you should do more than it became ‘if you don’t do it, you won’t make money.’ Then it transformed into ‘you must do it because others are doing it and you must be better than them.’ So there’s no end to it. I don’t post obsessively anymore. I don’t want to get caught up in the rat race of numbers.” She also premiered on Prime Video's LOL- Hasse Toh Phasse. View the full article
  9. The entire world was glued to the news last week waiting for just one announcement - Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' victory in the US Presidential elections. Everyone was celebrating their win and people were over the moon about getting rid of Donald Trump. The biggest news was Kamala Harris not only becoming the first woman to ever elected as the Vice President, but also the first woman of colour at such a prestigious position. Madam Vice President is the slogan for the next four years and honestly, this is the kind of change everyone can get behind. © Reuters Because of her win, an old picture of the new Veep with Mallika Sherawat started going viral, and along with that, an old Tweet posted by the actress back in 2009. © Facebook/Mallika Sherawat Calling Kamala Harris the woman who could one day be the US President, Mallika shared on Twitter with her followers how much fun she's having with her at an event. 10. The whole country is outraged by the prevalent rape culture in India and how unsafe women really are. But, a certain gent took it to another level when he blamed Mallika Sherawat and her movies for rising number of cases of sexual violence against women. He wrote, “The kind of roles you have played in Bollywood movie contradict your statement. Don’t you think the kind of message you deliver through your movies also play an important role? Improvement should start from the person who is making the statement first.” When Mallika noticed the tweet, she slammed him for his mindset. She responded, “So the movies I act in are an invitation for rape!!! It’s mentality like yours that make Indian society regressive for women! If you have a problem wt my movies then Don’t see them ‪#nocountryforwomen.” ‬ So the movies I act in are an invitation for rape!!! 11. Sherawat, along with her French husband Cyrille Auxenfans, began renting apartment for a monthly sum of 6,054 euros. ? Photo: Zee News PARIS: A French court has ordered that Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat be evicted from an apartment in a posh part of Paris for failing to keep up with the rent. In a December 14 ruling seen by AFP on Tuesday, the court told Sherawat and her French husband Cyrille Auxenfans to pay 78,787 euros ($94,000) in rent owed and expenses, giving the green light for their furniture to be seized. The couple began renting the apartment in the pricey 16th district on January 1, 2017, for a monthly sum of 6,054 euros. But according to the owner they never paid the rent, making only a single payment of 2,715 euros. At a hearing in a Paris court on November 14, a lawyer for the couple said they were in financial difficulty. The lawyer emphasised the "irregular" nature of Sherawat's work -- an argument dismissed by the owners of the apartment, who claimed she had earned tens of millions during the rental period. Neither Sherawat nor Auxenfans replied to AFP's request for comment. In mid-December, the actress had denied having a Paris apartment. "It's absolutely not true, if someone has donated one to me, please send me the address," she tweeted in response to media reports about the case. The couple may appeal the eviction order. They cannot be thrown out until March 31, when a moratorium on wintertime evictions expires.
  12. Mallika Dua needs no introduction. The woman has taken the internet by storm for all the right (and comic) reasons. From a regular copywriter to an internet “sensashiyun”, she rose to fame after her video ‘Shit People Say: Sarojini Nagar Edition' went viral. Even if you don't like her insanely hilarious videos (How can you not though?), chances are that you must have come across at least one of her videos with crazy Snapchat video filters where she enjoys playing the role of her very original characters. And when we talk about funny videos, how can we not mention All India Bakchod (AIB)? Fortunately for Mallika's fans, the comedian has been collaborating with the equally popular AIB for quite a few projects and the results are obviously hysterical. Earlier this year, AIB came up with a highly imaginative video ‘If Apps Were People', featuring stand-up comedians including Mallika Dua as ‘sleazy' Tinder, Kaneez Surka as ‘artist' Instagram, Sumukhi Suresh as Facebook, Tanmay Bhatt as Battery Saver and others as Whatsapp, Snapchat, Alarm Maa, Message (SMS) Bapu. The unique concept was bound to garner attention worldwide and it did just that. The video received so much love and appreciation that they decided to come up with a second part. And trust us when we say this, it couldn't have been better. The storyline is a little different this time. While the first part talked about the obsession we all have with mobile apps, the latest version shows the apps struggling to keep up with Supriya's (Sainee Raj) mother and her mobile usage habits. Or should we say every other parent's mobile habits? Broadcasting 'Good Morning' messages to everyone in the contact list along with forwarding every piece of “news” that goes viral- sounds familiar doesn't it? This extremely common habit of parents makes Whatsapp (Kumar Varun) go crazy with overload of information. He returns as ‘SMS bapu' in the later part of the video and without a doubt his performance is exceptional. © AIB © AIB But on the other hand, Tinder and Instagram have had to take a back seat. Chances are that most parents don't even know what ‘Tinder' is and those who do, would probably discourage its use. This leaves the very sleazy Tinder aka Mallika Dua desperate for some action. Her gaudy accent combined with the endless sexual references will make you laugh your ass off and will definitely stay with you for years to come. © AIB If her Instagram role isn't enough for you then here's some good news. She plays a double role as she comes back in the video as ‘Matrimonial' so you get to see a little more of her! © AIB There's also the character of ‘Amazon' who is tired of the unhealthy habit of Supriya's mother as she keeps adding items to her cart but never goes ahead with the purchase. © AIB Kaneez Surka is at her best too as she retains her semi- Italian accent for her Instagram impression from the first part. © AIB The mother played by Sheeba Chadda is the cherry on top of the cake as we see a different side to this otherwise adorable mother. © AIB Prepare yourself for a treat and watch the video here:
  13. <p>Priyanka Chopra is literally taking over Hollywood. There is not a single day when we don't hear about what she's up to.</p> <p>And now she is in news in both parts of the world after she announced her collaboration with Madhuri Dixit for a comedy series based on dhak dhak girl's life in the US.</p> <p style=" margin:8px 0 0 0; padding:0 4px;"><a style=" color:#000; font-family:Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal; line-height:17px; text-decoration:none; word-wrap:break-word;" href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BXIuTRMAKK9/" target="_blank">One of the favorite parts of my job, is to be able to tell stories across genres, languages and to a varied audience. Today I'm happy to share with you another step I've taken on that creative journey, in my role as a producer. This particular story is one of a few Hollywood projects that I am currently developing. The incredible Madhuri Dixit's real life has been the inspiration behind Sri Rao's amazing story, and I can't wait to work with the both of them to see how this will pan out. Again, it's unchartered territory for me, producing a show for American television but I'm blessed to have a great set of partners in Mark Gordon Company's Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper, along with ABC Studios to develop and produce this very fun idea. After having an incredible experience with them on Quantico, this seemed like a perfect extension of our partnership. I've only just begun and there is little I can share at this point about any of the projects but I'm looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work. Stay tuned. @abcnetwork #NickPepper #MarkGordon @madhuridixitnene @newyorksri @purplepebblepictures</a></p> <p style=" color:#c9c8cd; font-family:Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; line-height:17px; margin-bottom:0; margin-top:8px; overflow:hidden; padding:8px 0 7px; text-align:center; text-overflow:ellipsis; white-space:nowrap;">A post shared by Priyanka Chopra (@priyankachopra) on Jul 29, 2017 at 8:56am PDT</p> <p>PeeCee is literally doing everything possible. She is a brilliant actor, she can sing and now she is all geared up to produce her first American TV show as well. Looking at her we just wonder, if there is anything in this world that she can't do?</p> <p>Well, we ain't the only one who feels smitten by her achievements. While many are obsessing over Priyanka's achievements, YouTube sensation Mallika Dua is disappointed over the fact that no matter how much work you do, it is still nothing when compared to what our desi girl does.</p> <p>When everyone was congratulating the 'Baywatch' actress for her upcoming venture, Mallika tweeted and wrote, "I feel exhausted, demotivated and overworked all the time. Then I see @priyankachopra and I feel like a chappal dipped in keechad."</p> <p dir="ltr" lang="en">I feel exhausted, demotivated and overworked all the time. Well, Mallika we feel the same. When Priyanka read this, she gave a interesting reply to her giving us more inspiration!</p> <p>She tweeted, “@MallikaDua I dunno what Chappal dubaoed in keechad feels like in your heart, but just Wear blinders and keep running then wash it off"</p> <p dir="ltr" lang="en">.<a href="https://twitter.com/MallikaDua">@MallikaDua</a> I dunno what Chappal dubaoed in keechad feels like in your heart, but just Wear blinders and keep running ðð½âï¸then wash it off <a href="https://t.co/tL4pQrY3E1">https://t.co/tL4pQrY3E1</a></p> — PRIYANKA (@priyankachopra) <a href="https://twitter.com/priyankachopra/status/892040612513550340">July 31, 2017</a> <p>To which Mallika gave a brilliant reply saying, "Such. A. Boss. 18th July people are the best :D It's so amazing to see you owning Times Square and the rest of the world."</p> <p>Now that's something we totally agree with PeeCee is Such A Boss! And we totally enjoyed this banter between two of the most entertaining peoples.</p> <p></p> <p></p>
