  4. It’s amazing how life has changed for all of us during the pandemic. New and innovative ways were adapted to ensure our day-to-day routine doesn’t encounter much disturbance. Work came back home, children started spending more time with their families and people, in general, started appreciating the simple joys of life that were often overlooked before. But since life moved back home, families have had to really master the art of multitasking. I too am one such father who is living his pandemic life on an automated reel, one wrong move and the whole routine falls like a pack of cards. A typical day would see me managing work calls, dealing with my 9-year-old’s rather excessive online school and assignments, juggling meetings and making sure we don’t lose it all in between. So tell me, how many of us were left red-faced with the unending ‘hello, can you hear me’ conversations in the middle of a rather important work call? Jabra Or just when it was your child’s turn to answer a question in school, our speakers would happily give up on us? Great timing, ha! Well, the greatest gift I got from my wife recently was the Jabra Evolve 2 75. Trust me when I say this, but this device has been a life-changer for us as a family. Just one device has made our lives easier and more manageable. Especially when my old device was giving up on me (and my hectic schedule). Here are some of the reasons why this device is actually perfect for three generations alike! Jabra Comfort for hoursWith a revolutionary new dual-foam technology and an ergonomic ear cup design, this earphone will guarantee comfort for all age groups. The re-engineered leatherette ear cushion pattern that has improved ventilation will ensure you’re comfortable for hours. Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)Work from home brings with it a lot of noises in the background. From the banging of utensils in the kitchen, to a fruit vendor selling vegetables on the main road, my daughter’s school and my colleagues have witnessed it all. With the hard foam for the exterior and soft foam for the interior, this headset promises to deliver noise isolation and the ultimate all-day comfort. Simply put, you get even better Active Noise Cancellation performance in a headset and can still wear it for as long as you like. You can use the Sound + App to select your level of noise cancellation and let the advanced feedforward and feedback dual hybrid ANC do what it does best to protect your focus. From train to a cafe, the Evolve2 75 will help you concentrate no matter where you are. The UC certification for MS Teams and Zoom that this device comes with makes it even more authentic for these widely used apps. Jabra The best-in-class microphoneThe Evolve Series is already miles ahead when it comes to industry-leading professional grade call performance. However, the Evolve2 75, is a re-engineered microphone boom-arm that’s 33% shorter than Evolve 75. It is specially designed for outstanding calls in open-plan offices and other noisy places. Not just that, the Discreet Mode makes noise completely clear and is perfect no matter where you are. More power = More productivityThe Evolve 2 75 is powered by an advanced ecosystem of three powerful digital chipsets. These work together for a faster and more efficient outcome that will surely increase your productivity every day. Wireless & flexibleNeed to bring coffee in the middle of a never-ending meeting? With a 30 meters wireless range, you can get one while you’re on your call. Not just that, you can connect it to both your laptop and smartphone. Doesn’t it sound like an ideal work-from-home companion? Get your hands on your WFH best friend! View the full article
  5. The Mumbai-based Indian Hindi-language film industry, popularly known as Bollywood, is a tough nut to crack for people who either were not born into a family of the film fraternity or do not have a godfather watching over them. While every now and then, there are still people, the so-called "outsiders", that break through the tall, ironclad gates of the kingdom that is Bollywood, whether they are accepted or cast out is another tale altogether. © Pinterest While Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is one of the many outsiders that set foot into the industry 29 years ago, the fact remains that for every Shah Rukh, there are a thousand others who did not make it to the top. That is not to say that there is no success guaranteed at all, especially with castings for OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney, and others opening doors for talent to change the entire dynamic of the film industry. However, the new doors of the industry had clearly not been carved out at the time when Indian actress and poker player Minissha Lamba was trying to make a name for herself in the industry. © Pinterest Minissha is known for her performances in films like Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. (2007), Kidnap (2008), Yahaan (2005), Well Done Abba (2010), Shaurya (2008), and others. However, the 36-year-old actress recalled that her journey was a difficult one due to the struggle to get work as she could not get anyone to manage her. "No one wanted to manage me. They gave excuses about how they are busy as they felt my debut was an art-house kind of a movie. They did not want to put the energies into me. Everything I did was on my own. I did not have anyone pitching for me." "Despite all that, I do feel there was a luck factor involved. People who wanted to work with me called me themselves." © AFP Despite bumps in the road, the actress does say that eventually, things did fall into place after a period of struggle. "When I look back, the struggle was decent. It would be wrong for me to say that I struggled. Things fell into the place, in a way I had not expected honestly," said Minissha. The actress was last seen on the big screen alongside actors Sanjay Dutt and Aditi Rao Hydari in the 2017 film Bhoomi. View the full article

  7. We're still living in the middle of a pandemic and soon will complete a year of staying at home as industries have drastically adapted a work-from-home model. The past year has been a year of firsts in a lot of ways; hence, staying at home has enabled some of us to experiment with our hair and beard like never before. While some people have tried shaving it all off, others have dabbled with growing it out or colouring the mane to see how they look like. Considering the consequences are far less, even if we end up with a bad decision in terms of the hair or the beard, it's fixable in the long term and we don't even have to show our faces to our colleagues. So, how does it even matter, right? If you're someone who has grown their hair out in the last few months, here are few ways to manage the long flowing hair without making a mess of it. Some of these are celebrity-approved, considering, we've never related to celebrities more than we have in the past year. 1. Hair Ties © Instagram/Vijay Deverakonda While this may seem too obvious at this point, but use a hair tie. Long hair can get entangled easily and then it hurts to comb them. Wearing a hair tie does not take a lot of effort: You can even steal one from your girlfriend's stash. Just use one to loop one around in a figure-8 until it's tight and holds on its own. 2. A Bandana © Viral Bhayani If hair ties give you a headache, you can give the bandana a try. These can be loosely defined as large coloured handkerchiefs, typically with white spots, tied around the head or neck. These can be great to manage your hair in a gentle way without pulling your hair tightly. Take a cue from Ranbir Kapoor on how he wears his bandana to the football field. 3. A Wave Band © Viral Bhayani An Abhishek Bachchan signature that was back a few months after his Guru days, a waveband is a metallic headband with waves on it that pushes back your hair creating texture on top. It's a rad hair accessory and great for the upcoming Summer months. 4. A Hair Scarf__ECOMPRODUCT__1150__ Another way to manage the hair is to fold a scarf into a triangle, place the hypotenuse end of the scarf against your forehead, and tie the two opposite ends together at the nape of your neck: This will protect your hair while keeping it off your face. This helps also helps them remain intact throughout the day. 5. Hair Products__ECOMPRODUCT__354__ If you don't want to fuss about hair accessories, you can try and get products instead that help with the flyaways and the frizziness throughout the day. There's a whole range of creams and pastes that will keep your hair in place and out of your eyes at the same time. Arata's hair cream is one such example. It's packed with organic flax seed and olive extracts that nourish and strengthen the scalp while sculpting your hair for hours at end. View the full article
  8. Did the US Navy manage to teleport a massive warship in what's known as the 'Philadelphia Experiment'? This is one of the most intriguing conspiracy theories around - a close runner-up to the Roswell incident. Fans of the theory stick to their guns, while others say it's just the World War 2 era's equivalent of 'fake news' © Pinterest The Philadelphia Experiment Here's what's supposed to have happened: Back in 1943, the US Navy, apparently working closely with scientists like Albert Einstein, are believed to have been working on invisibility cloak - one that could make their ships invisible to radar and even the naked eye. via GIPHY The experiment is said to have taken on board the USS Eldridge just off the coastal city of Philadelphia. However, things went wrong, horribly so, and while the ship disappeared as it was hoped, when it came back all wasn't well. Apparently, the dematerialisation-materialisation had horrifying consequences, with sailors 'embedded' in the steel of the ship - one sailor was even cut in half. The legend goes that a second experiment, repeated a few weeks later, saw the Eldridge not just become invisible, but that the ship was teleported to the US Naval Base in Norfolk, Virginia, returning a few moments later. Again, the crew is said to have suffered, with many deaths, and some sailors reportedly going insane. © Imgur Eyewitnesses Or Weirdos? One account of this was given by a certain Carl Allende, who claimed to be an eyewitness on board another ship nearby. Allende was dismissed as a crank, but around 40 years later, another 'eyewitness' turned up - a man known as Al Biebek claimed he'd been on the Eldridge and was even brainwashed by US intelligence so he'd have no memory of the Philadelphia Experiment. Sorry, Folks, It's Probably (Definitely?) Not True The US Navy has always denied that the Philadelphia Experiment took place, while other naysayers have pointed out that the USS Eldridge had left Philadelphia well before all the mysterious happenings. © YouTube Even the 'eyewitness' accounts were debunked by scientists - a 'green glow' that is said to have surrounded the ship was probably nothing more than a natural phenomenon caused by an electrical storm, while the cables wrapped around some ships were just a way to demagnetise them so they wouldn't set off magnetic mines. There's Even A Movie About It Drop in on a few conspiracy theory forums and you'll find loads of stuff on this rather intriguing story, but we'd also recommend you watch the 1984 film based on this – 'The Philadelphia Experiment' strays a bit from original story but it's worth a watch - it follows two sailors who're on board the Eldridge - they find themselves transported to Nevada. Oh, and it's now 1984. Our time travelling sailors realise that the Navy's picked up the experiment, and it's putting the universe at risk by damaging the fabric of space and time!
  9. Do you struggle to manage your fitness goals (bulking or fat loss) and college simultaneously? Do you have to take off from the gym for days or weeks during exams? Pretty sure most of you just nodded your heads to the above questions, which is why today I am going to tell you the best way to manage a fitness routine during your exams. Before we get to the solution, let's first focus on a few reasons that make us deviate from our fitness routine during exams: 1. Lack Of Preparation/ Last Minute Study We all are guilty of this, aren't we? Chilling during the entire semester and starting to prepare for our exams as the deadline arises. 2. Increase In Stress Levels BOOM! As the exam approaches, we get more anxious, stressed and worried which results in a significant imbalance in our eating habits. 3. Poor Sleeping Patterns Late night study routine? Poor sleep = poor workouts & poor eating habits. 4. Our Environment This is a rare occurence but happens to many people I have coached along the years. People around us can increase or decrease the perception of pressure on us and it can have a significant impact on us adhering to our fitness routine. Eg: "Study" "Focus on exams now" "Keep everything else aside for this period." (Incomplete advice) 5. Priority Some people like to give out their maximum during exams, even if that maximum produces a 1-2% increase in CGPA or percentage. However, that is up to you and we certainly do not mean that going gym during exams is an absolute necessity. Despite what the circumstances are, at the end of exams most dudes are going to end up saying: “aaah I missed the gym for no reason” Below are a few tips which will allow you to train even during exams days: 1. Training © Thinkstock Images If your exam is a one-day exam (like an entrance test) then it would be harmless for you to take a couple of weeks off before the exam as a way to de-load. You can also do minimal training i.e. two full-body workout a week when possible. Studies have shown that short breaks of 1-2 weeks will not have a major impact on your fitness levels but can help you psychologically come back with more motivation and focus. If you are an engineering or medical student, who has month-long exams, then 3 full body workouts per week are optimal to conserve your strength and muscle mass. The intensity of your training can be reduced during the exam time depending upon your sleep levels from the previous day. If you are feeling of stressed and fatigued due to studying, then there is no use of trying to attempt a 5 rep max. Instead, train with 3-4 reps in your reserve. To get workouts done faster, you can superset exercises of the opposing muscle groups such as Quads & Hamstrings, Biceps & Triceps, Chest and Middle Back, Lats & Shoulders. Keep your rest period between 1-3 minutes at the most. Focus on doing the exercises which give you the most bang for the buck. Eg: Squats, Deadlifts, Bench press, Barbell Rows and Shoulder press which will target multiple muscle groups instead of focussing on isolating individual muscles Incorporate small 10 min walks whenever possible to keep your mood flowing and feeling fresh. Engage in 5-10 mins of deep breathing with your eyes closed. There is no specific pattern for inhaling and exhale, just whatever you decide, keep it same for the entire period. 2. Nutrition © Thinkstock Images Focus on preparing your meals in advance and storing them whenever you get free time to avoid loss of focus and energy preparing the food between studying Bulking? Create high-calorie smoothies with oats, banana, whey protein & nut butter to get the calories you require. Personally, I would suggest that you increase your calories during the exam phase to help manage stress and to feel better in general. Being in a caloric deficit, which is a state of stress for the body, coupled with an exam, which is additional stress, can have a negative effect on your body. © Pixabay Summing everything up: Get in the training room whenever possible, plan your meals in advance, add in small walks, meditation sessions and adjust your routine such that you can adhere to it easily and stay focused. Go, achieve the best in your exams without comprising on your fitness routine! Yash Sharma is a former national level Football player, now a Strength Coach, Nutritionist and Natural Bodybuilder. 10. Google's Android Pie update has brought in a number of new features, but one of our favourites has to be the new way to manage notifications. You now have the option to control notifications from each and every app and with added smartness, they'll never bug you when you're busy. Not only has Google changed the functionality, but also tweaked the UI. With Android 9.0 Pie, the notifications shade has been tweaked to look a little more like a card, featuring rounded corners and a new section for each notification. You'll also see a new "manage notifications" button under the shade, that's where all the magic starts. © Google Not only can you tweak which apps send you notifications, but you can also get a whole lot more granular and tweak specific types of notifications from those apps. A new concept called "categories" has been introduced, think of it as a set of notifications that are sent by apps. For example, notifications about getting a new follower on Instagram is one category and getting likes on your pictures is another category. Now that notifications of a particular app are broke down into various categories, you can manage what's important for you. Annoyed with the hundreds of likes on Twitter and care about new followers only? Well, you can now select which "category" you want to be notified about. © Google How do you set customise these categories? Open the Settings app, scroll to "Apps and Notifications", and select "See all of your apps". Now select the app you'd like to customize and you'll be shown a list of categories being supported. After filtering your categories, you can further choose the "behaviour" of the notifications. This essentially lets you choose between a sound or peaking. Still, want more? Tap on Advanced and now you can select the tune, vibration pattern, and even LED colour (if supported by phone). © Tom's Guide The notifications also bring in Smart Replies now. These are essentially automatically generated responses you can send to messages you get. Playing PUBG and want to reply back a generic response for the time being? Smart Replies come to your rescue! The functionality is limited to a few apps right now, but we expect all major apps to follow soon.
  11. What do all the fitness articles have in common? Well, they all talk about what to do in the gym and how to motivate you to get into gym. There's nothing wrong with those articles. However, there are definitely dark horses that can be silent killers to your gains which are outside your training arena. It's not just how many reps you do inside the gym but it is your total lifestyle that decides your final results. Following are a few factors that are often neglected by majority of the fitness experts. 1. Manage Your Alcohol Consumption Or Avoid It Totally If you're talking about natural way of training and gaining muscles, trust me you can't cheat away by consuming alcohol every weekend. Spending 5 to 6 days inside the gym training rigorously does not give you the liberty to have as much alcohol as you want in the weekends. This is only going to slow down your results. Regular consumption of alcohol has been associated with less protein synthesis and lesser testosterone levels. If you're serious about your goals, limit your alcohol intake to either once in a month or try to avoid it totally. 2. Manage Your DOMS And Soreness DOMS and soreness is inevitable after a heavy workout but this shouldn't become a regular thing. I find that some people are always so sore that it impacts their daily life too. Moreover, if you are already sore when you enter the gym, how are you going to perform at your peak capacity during your workouts? It"s better that you take care of this soreness once you are outside the gym. For this, you can follow a good morning stretching routine and go for a deep tissue massage once a week to help your muscles repair and recover better. © Pixabay 3. Pick An Outdoor Sport Or Simply Make It A Point To Be Active Every Day Any kind of sport activity can prove to be beneficial for your gains if you time it strategically. For example, if you have weight trained for six days in a row, you could take the seventh day off from the gym and play some kind of a sport that will help you in two different ways. First, your body will utilize fast twitch muscle fibers for a change which in turn will help you achieve better kinesthetic awareness. Secondly, it will also serve as a good fat burning cardio session which helps your body to function as a complete unit. 4. Manage Your Sleep As it is said 'muscles are not built inside the gym, but your body builds muscles only when you rest', the importance of sleep for muscle building cannot be overrated. Lack of sleep takes a toll on your muscle gains as you will not recover completely before you hit the same muscle group again. This will lead to overtraining and may also end up in an injury. Therefore, try to get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep daily and preferably 9 if possible for complete recovery of your body and central nervous system. © YouTube 5. Discipline Outside The Gym Matters Way More Than You Think This is the major factor that has the majority of the impact on your muscle gains. Everybody likes to lift heavier weights inside the gym because you feel that pump inside your muscle. But what you do outside the gym makes the real difference. If your discipline is limited to those walls of the gym, trust me you're never going to achieve a great physique. Your discipline for your diet and the choices that you make for your body decides the results of your hard work in the gym. 12. It is a basic concept in order to live a considerably stress-free life, irrespective of who you are- Manage Your Money. When one is not financially sound, they become prone to falling into traps that can potentially ruin their life. Knowing how to save, what to invest in and how to avoid debts are certain things everyone should know at the earliest. Here are 10 tips that will help you in better managing your finances and lead a better life: 1. Try To Break Your Habit Of Being In Constant Debt Simply put, you cannot achieve financial independence until you break free from your habit of staying in debt. You find it easy to borrow money instead of trying to save and end up living below your means. While it cannot be branded as an addiction, it can surely be termed as irresponsible. 2. Learn Basics Of Credit Card Management © Wikipedia While owning a credit card is neither a luxury nor a curse, but being ignorant of its use can hurt you. Learn the basics and keep these three things in mind before using your credit card. -Make a purchase with your credit card only when you can actually pay the bill in full payment by the end of the month. If you avoid doing so, you will have to pay the late payment fee and end up spending money that you do not even have yet. -Never take out cash directly from your credit card, as they make hefty charges on such transactions. If you have absolutely no choice, then transfer it first to your current or savings account and then take out the money. -Know the basics of how to convert your pending credit card bill into EMI. Yes, you have an EMI option but remember, that their interest rate is usually very high. 3. Start Saving After you have made yourself debt-free it is time to start saving. It is only then, that you will be able to invest your money. Start with a simple RD (Recurring deposit ) or an FD (fixed deposit). The most important thing is to automate your savings. Talk to your bank and your HR, on how you can automate a portion of your salary to be directly deposited into your savings account. 4. Become Financially Literate © Amazon Financial literacy is simply the ability to understand how money works. How one makes, manages and invests it. For starters, you should know the basic difference between an asset and a liability. For example, the car you buy is like a liability since its price decreases with time, and the real estate you purchase is like an asset, whose value will only increase with time. You can begin educating yourself on money matters by reading 'Rich Dad Poor Dad' by Robert T. Kiyosaki. 5. Start Investing Succesful investments ensure you make more money. You can educate yourself about the process or use the services of a fund manager and advisor. You can invest in real estate, stocks, bonds, startups, mutual funds and many more things. 6. Plan Ahead For Your Retirement © Self Lender A time will come when you would like to retire and pursue other interests in life. To do that, you will need a sizeable amount of money in your account and for that, you will need to start putting away money in your retirement plan at the earliest. The sooner you start, the better results you get. 7. Get A Good Health Insurance A good health insurance plan for you and your family will keep you financially prepared when catastrophe strikes. It is not an option but a necessity. Read the terms of a prospective health insurance policy carefully and think about which one is suitable for your needs. 8. Choose Quality Over Quantity This is a fundamental principle as well as a matter of common sense. When it comes to purchasing important things, it is a no-brainer that you should focus on the quality. While there is no harm in looking for a bargain, that doesn't mean you can compromise on the quality of a product. Imagine you buy a cheap air conditioner and use it on overdrive during the peak of summers. It is bound to break down more than once, and then you will end up paying more to service and repair it. 9. Invest In Your Education © Thinkstock/Getty Images Benjamin Franklin said, “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” This is what one should keep in mind. Learn new things and stay competitive. Read books, enroll yourself in an online course or go for higher studies. Do whatever it takes to help you live the life you dreamt for yourself and your family. 10. Invest In Your Health © crossfitbk Nothing is above health. You could be the richest man around, but what is the point of all that money, if you are not healthy enough to enjoy it? Exercise, eat well and keep yourself fit. Invest in yourself to enjoy life to the fullest. It could be by getting a gym membership or hiring a personal trainer.
