  1. Bad communities promise great things to its members. Good communities offer great things to its members. Great communities fulfill the greatness of its members. A primary purpose of every community is to fulfill the needs of its members. A strong community will go beyond the immediate, basic needs and ensure that fulfillment is a positive experience. By doing so, it builds in positive rewards and reinforcement for an enjoyable sense of togetherness. One of the cornerstone ideas of behavioral sciences is reinforcement: delivering a positive experience to members through multiple dimensions. Why they come, why the stay, and how to fulfill those needs is our third element of Sense of Community: Rewards & Reinforcement. Discover all the ways to fulfill member needs for your Invision Community. Fulfillment of Functional Needs Your community must have a clear and unique purpose. Your community must offer something valuable. And your community must solve a problem. This is the prime reason why a user would visit you in the first place and how you fulfill his most basic needs. He searches for a question, and your community provides the answer. Many communities build up their expertise through two ways: Crowd-source community solutions - You can highlight community-driven solutions in Invision Community to curate attention to the best answers. Two of the most underutilized features are Content Messages and Recommended Replies, which allow moderators to showcase and explain great user content. Bring experts into the community – Authoritative content should be posted and marked separately from regular user content. You can accomplish this by giving experts a dedicated Blog, authorship in Pages, or enabling Post highlights. Fulfillment of Personal Needs Beyond the fulfillment of basics needs, users want other wishes and desires. It’s impossible to identify all personal needs, but here are three of the biggest ones why users come together more: Group Status – People like to be on the “winning team,” and community success brings group members closer together. Highlight community success in your monthly newsletter or topic announcements. Competence – People are attracted to others with skills or competence. Introduce superusers and subject matter experts (SMEs) through interviews, team talk, or AMA topics ("ask me anything"). Rewards – Behavioral research shows that users gravitate toward groups that offer more rewards. Use tools like the Leaderboard, Group rank, Badges, and Reputation for extrinsic motivation that excite users and make them feel special. Fulfillment of Shared Values Society and our upbringing instruct us in a set of shared values. We bring those values into our online communities because they provide a framework of how to address our emotional and personal needs and the priority in which we address them. When users with shared values come together, they’re more receptive to helping others with the same value system: A Values Statement: Make it a point to identify the shared values in your community, in Guidelines or on a separate page. Affirm those principles in your interactions and, in difficult situations, frame your decision by referencing your community values. Private communities with high engagement usually have the strongest statements of values. Process vs. Outcome: How you answer is just as important as the answer. If you run a community that is technical, offers customer support, or involves lots of questions-and-answers, the process by which you arrive at the solution can help other users troubleshoot similar but different problems. Reinforce the solving process, and you’ll discover users will feel better about sharing their knowledge even if they don’t know the exact answer. Fulfillment by Networking Groups will naturally coalesce into smaller groups, as people find other people that they enjoy and who fulfill their own needs. Strong communities find ways to fit people together. Multiply Relationships: The sooner you can build relationships among members, the stronger those members will feel towards your community. In my community, I’ve created an “Ambassador” task force that welcomes new members to build personal relationships as soon as possible. Be a Networker: One of the virtues of being a community manager is that you’re normally introduced to the greatest number of people. Use your personal network within the community to connect two users together, bring other users into a conversion, or tap the expertise of others to help answer user questions. CONCLUSION There’s an Arabian proverb that says, “A promise is a cloud, fulfillment is rain.” Make it rain. Find ways to fulfill the greatness of your members, unleash a tidal wave of rewards and reinforcement that touch upon all the functional, personal, communal, and social needs of your members in the ultimate approach to member fulfillment. Build not just a good community, but a great one.

  5. With the upcoming 2019 ICC World Cup, here is a look at what the members of the 2011 World Cup winning Indian cricket team are up to these days. Virender Sehwag © Reuters Although Sehwag did not have the perfect World Cup final as he was dismissed on the second delivery for a duck against Sri Lanka, he did have a great run during the 2011 World Cup tournament itself, which began with a massive 175-run innings against Bangladesh in the first match. After officially retiring from all formats of the game in 2015, Viru provides his expertise on various pre and post match analytical shows. Sehwag is a proud owner of Sehwag International School that has been producing some of the most talented players from the younger lot. He can also be seen on social media every now and then, roasting others and sometimes, even himself. Sachin Tendulkar © Reuters In his final days as one of the Men in Blue, the 2011 World Cup can probably be considered as the endgame for the master blaster. Having an above average run, Tendulkar was more or less consistent during the Group matches and also the Knockout rounds. Scoring 120 against England in the second match and 53 against Australia in the quarter finals, Tendulkar made it clear to the world that he's still got it. After lifting the cup during the victory round with the Wankhede Stadium chanting his name, Tendulkar retired from ODIs in 2012 after a disappointing series against England. What is remarkable about Tendulkar's post-retirement life is how much he has done to promote sports other than cricket. Owner of the Indian Super League franchise Kerala Blasters and Premier Badminton League franchise Bengaluru Blasters, Tendulkar is also the UNICEF ambassador for Hygiene and Sanitation and also launched a sports management company called STD in 2016. Gautam Gambhir © Reuters Probably the most consistent batsman throughout the 2011 World Cup, Gautam Gambhir played a crucial role in India successfully chasing Sri Lanka's respectable score of 274 in the final. Although Gambhir got bowled off Thisara Perera's delivery with 50 odd runs still left to be made, his heroic innings helped MS Dhoni reach the target a lot more easily. After winning the 2011 World Cup, Gambhir struggled to find his form and went off the radar for quite some time. He began to play domestic cricket and was even called to play a Test series against New Zealand in 2016. However, Gambhir announced his retirement ahead of his final match for team Delhi in the 2018 Ranji Trophy season, in which he also scored a century on 6th December 2018. Virat Kohli © Reuters Scoring a decent 35 in the final against Sri Lanka, Kohli was just 22 years old when India lifted the Cup. Although he became a familiar face for the Indian audience, not a lot was expected out of the future captain as players like Sehwag and Tendulkar were there. Kohli himself has expressed a lack of emotions after the win because he didn't feel like he earned it. A lot has changed in eight years. Not only has the 22-year-old outspoken boy evolved into a wise and calm (relatively) captain, he has also spearheaded the team to great heights, winning a Test series in Australia, for instance, which none of his predecessors were able to achieve. With the 2019 World Cup approaching, Kohli looks focused and will surely have strong emotions towards whatever the Indian Cricket Team has in store for themselves in the future. MS Dhoni © Reuters A captain, a wicketkeeper and a batsman, Mahendra Singh Dhoni aced in every category during the 2011 World Cup. A massive but more importantly, clutch innings put out by the middle-order hitter was a great testament of exactly how much we will miss Mahi when he finally decides to retire (hopefully after another World Cup). Named the Man of the Match in the final, Dhoni won the Cup for Team India in wonderful fashion with a six. Eight years later, despite many stints of bad form, Dhoni continues to be the 'finisher of games' for the Indian side. After winning the ODI series in Australia while acting as the backbone of the squad, Dhoni has proved his critics wrong once again and is making a great case for another hand at the upcoming World Cup. Yuvraj Singh © Reuters Other than getting out on the first ball against Pakistan in the semi final, Yuvraj Singh was steady as a rock for the Men in Blue for the entire tournament. His back-to-back 50s against England and Ireland in the initial rounds and a masterful 113 against the Windies in the 42nd Match were some of the best innings played during that year's World Cup. Soon after winning the World Cup, Singh was diagnosed with a rare cancer which spread into his lungs but after months of therapy and diet-control, Yuvi was able to make a comeback to cricket. Although, he has not yet announced his retirement, his absence from the roster is a clear indication of the inevitable. His Yuvraj Singh Foundation and cancer organisation, YouWeCan is focused on helping diagnosed patients get treatment and create awareness against the stigma attached to cancer. Suresh Raina © Reuters To be completely honest, Suresh Raina did not contribute a lot towards India's rise throughout the tournament and thanks to Dhoni's game-winning innings, did not get to bat in the final too. His best innings came in the semi final during which the batsman scored 36 runs. After being an integral part of Team India for years to come after the 2011 victory, Raina hit a slump in 2016 and has been on and off the team ever since. Having played his last ODI and T20I match for the national team back in July'18 against England, Raina is trying to make a comeback but it may be too late for the senior middle-order batsman to return. Zaheer Khan © Reuters In a time when Indian bowling was considered to be subpar, it was Zaheer Khan who led the attack when his side was fielding. Albeit, Khan proved to be expensive in the final three overs against the Lankans in the final, his consistency and deliverance throughout the tournament can not be questioned. Case in point, Khan's three-wicket attack against England in what was considered to be the toughest match throughout the tournament for India. After retiring from international and domestic cricket in 2015, 'Zak' has entered the fitness industry with his brainchild venture ProSport Fitness. Khan now has two fitness centres in Mumbai and is looking to expand to other cities as well. He also has a couple of restaurants and a sports lounge in Pune. S Sreesanth © Reuters 27 years old at the time, S Sreesanth was fierce with the ball. However, the World Cup proved to be a disappointment for the pacer who gave up 52 runs in just 8 overs in the final match against Sri Lanka. Sreesanth was a surprise pick for the playing 11 after Ashish Nehra was out due to an injury. His journey after winning the Cup was full of unfortunate milestones as two years later, the Kerala-born was caught in the infamous spot-fixing scandal during the 2013 IPL scandal and was sentenced a lifetime ban from playing cricket. Recently, Sreesanth became the 2018 season's runners-up of the reality show, Bigg Boss. Sreesanth has appealed to the judiciary, time and again to lift the ban on his cricketing career but it hasn't led to anything fruitful. Harbhajan Singh © Reuters Cricket is not all about aggressive bowling and trying to take wickets, it is also about preventing to concede runs and work towards forcing the opponent to put up the smallest total that they can. During the 2011 World Cup, Bhajji, who not only was the second highest wicket taker for the Indian side, he also had one of the best economy rate amongst the Men in Blue. Not having officially retired from the international scenario, Singh has no plans of playing international or first class cricket anymore. Having said that, he continues to play for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. Munaf Patel © Reuters Munaf Patel's impressive performance in the ODI series in Sri Lanka in 2010 got him a spot in the 2011 World Cup squad as Parveen Kumar and Ashish Nehra were out due to injury. While a lot of people belief Patel's role in the victory wasn't very eventful, the more technically sound fans call him the unsung hero. The then-bowling coach, Eric Simmons commends Patel's high degree of skills which covered up the lack of pace. Unfortunately for Patel, once the World Cup was over, his days with the Indian national team were numbered. Playing his last ODI against England in September 2011, Patel was last seen on the field, playing in the 2017 IPL for the Gujarat Lions. He has also expressed the desire to begin a career as a coach.

  17. An Emirates airline flight attendant has died after she fell from the emergency door of a parked airplane in Uganda's Entebbe airport, BBC reported. According to reports, the hostess of the Dubai-based airline was preparing the flight for boarding when the incident happened. A spokesperson said, the woman, whose nationality has not been revealed, was rushed to Kisubi hospital 16 kilometres away but died soon after. Photo: Sources Uganda's aviation authorities said they have launched an investigation into the incident. The flight attendant "appeared to have opened the emergency door" and unfortunately "fell off an aircraft that had safely landed and parked", a statement said. Kisubi hospital's spokesperson Edward Zabonna told the BBC that the crew member had injuries "all over her face and knees". Zabonna said that she had been "unconscious but alive" when she arrived at the hospital on Wednesday evening but died soon after. "A member of our cabin crew unfortunately fell from an open door while preparing the aircraft for boarding,? AFP quoted a statement from Emirates Airline as saying. The airline promised its "full cooperation" with the investigation.
  18. Nikolas Cruz. Picture released by the office of Broward's sheriff PARKLAND: A troubled teenager accused of murdering 17 people at his former high school in Florida had white supremacist ties, it emerged Thursday, as the FBI admitted it received a tip-off about the 19-year-old gunman, yet failed to stop him. As Americans reeled from the country?s worst school massacre since the horror at Sandy Hook six years ago, President Donald Trump suggested the root cause of the violence was a crisis of mental health ? and defied calls to address gun control. Terrified students hid in closets and under desks on Wednesday at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, texting for help as the gunman, Nikolas Cruz, stalked the school with a semi-automatic AR-15 rifle. Charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder, Cruz appeared Thursday afternoon before a judge who ordered him held without bond. In a sombre televised address to the nation in response to the 18th school shooting so far this year, Trump announced plans to travel to Florida to meet the shocked community, located north of Miami. He vowed to make mental health a priority ? after tweeting about the "many signs" that the shooter was "mentally disturbed" ? but avoided any talk of gun curbs to stem the bloodshed. "My fellow Americans, today I speak to a nation in grief," said Trump, calling on his fellow citizens to "come together as one nation" and "answer hate with love, answer cruelty with kindness." Earlier in the day, Trump had asserted that "neighbors and classmates knew he was a big problem. Must always report such instances to authorities, again and again!" But US authorities themselves were under scrutiny after the FBI confirmed it was alerted last September to a message posted on YouTube, in which a user named Nikolas Cruz vowed: "I?m going to be a professional school shooter." In a statement, the FBI said it had carried out "database reviews and other checks" but was unable to identify the person who made the post. ?Something was off? Expelled from school for disciplinary reasons, Cruz was known to have firearms at home ? and had reportedly been identified as a potential threat to his classmates. "I met him last year, he was in my class at the beginning of the year and when I first met him, I knew that something was off about him and he was kind of weird," Manolo Alvarez, 17, told AFP. Troubling new details emerged Thursday about Cruz?s past, as the Anti-Defamation League reported he was a member of a white supremacist group and had taken part in military-style training exercises. Jordan Jereb, believed to lead the shadowy Republic of Florida (ROF), told the rights group that his organization had not supported Cruz?s attack. "Nobody I know told him to do that, he just freaked out," Jereb said in a separate interview with The Daily Beast, adding that Cruz "seemed like just a normal, disenfranchised, young white man." "I don?t know precisely what he believes," he said. "I know he knew full well he was joining a white separatist paramilitary proto-fascist organization." Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel previously said authorities were dissecting Cruz?s social media history, and that "some of the things... are very, very disturbing." He also suggested the authorities were powerless to stop such crimes. "If a person is predisposed to commit such a horrific event by going to a school and shooting people ... there?s not anybody or not a lot law enforcement can do about it," Israel said. ?Failing our kids? Fifteen people were killed at the high school, and two later died in hospital. One of those killed was Aaron Feis, a well-loved football coach in Parkland, a city of about 30,000 people. Two of the wounded remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition, while six others were on the way to a full recovery, officials told a news conference. The school shootings are part of a broader epidemic of gun violence in a country that loses 33,000 people to gun-related deaths each year, two-thirds of them suicides. While the latest mass shooting reignited questions about America?s gun laws, Trump ? the first president to have addressed the powerful National Rifle Association gun lobby ? staunchly opposes any additional gun controls. Opponents of gun curbs have sought to steer public debate onto the motives ? and mental health ? of people using the weapons. Former Democratic President Barack Obama issued a new appeal for action Thursday, insisting "we are not powerless." "Caring for our kids is our first job. And until we can honestly say that we?re doing enough to keep them safe from harm, including long overdue, common-sense gun safety laws that most Americans want, then we have to change," he tweeted. But many have given up hope of meaningful reform in a majority-led Republican Congress where Obama failed to enact gun curbs amid partisan rancour. Since January 2013, there have been at least 291 school shootings across the country ? an average of one a week, according to the non-profit group Everytown for Gun Safety. "It is pretty clear that we?re failing our kids here," said Melissa Falkowski, a teacher who squeezed 19 students into a closet at the high school to shield them from harm.
  19. Viewing and editing a member is probably one of the most frequently used features of the AdminCP. With the design unchanged for many years, and the tabbed interface starting to grow unwieldy, it was due for some love. We have not only dramatically improved the design but added many new features. New AdminCP Member Page Let's look at some of the improvements: Easy Toggle between Member and Customer View If you have Commerce installed, you can now toggle between "Member View" (which shows the screen above) and "Customer View" (which shows the current customer page in Commerce with the user's purchases, invoices, etc.). This makes it much easier to view all of a member's information in one place. If you don't have Commerce installed, the top tab bar will not show. Basic Information The pane in the top-left shows the member's basic information like name, email address and photos. You can now reposition a member's cover photo and crop the profile photo (functions previously not available in the AdminCP). To change the display name or email address, you just click and hold on the information and a textbox appears. The buttons below allow you to merge, delete, sign in as, and edit the preferences or password for the member. Basic Member Information Pane In addition, this pane lists any social networks the user is logged in with. It shows you the member's profile photo and profile name on that network (for example in this screenshot, it is showing my Facebook profile's photo and name) and for many networks you can click on this to be taken directly to their Facebook/Twitter/etc profile. You can also edit the syncing options for the method and unlink the accounts, features which weren't available previously. If you have Commerce installed, there is also an indicator if the user has an active subscription. A member with an active subscription Alerts If a member is validating, banned, flagged as a spammer, or locked, a large banner will display drawing your attention to this. For validating and banned, it will explain exactly what the status is (for example, if they haven't responded to the validation email yet versus they are awaiting admin approval, or if they have been banned manually versus are in a group without permission to access anything). A member that has been locked Other possible alerts Locations & Devices This pane shows you, on a map, all of the locations the user has been when using the community (based on their IP address) as well as the IP address they used to register and most recently. IP Address Locations While the devices tab shows the most recently used devices. Recently Used Devices Content Statistics Right in the middle of the profile you can see some statistics about the member's activity. This includes: A sparkline graph of their recent content. Their content count and reputation count (with tools to manually change or rebuild). A breakdown of the amount of content they have made across all applications. A visual indication of how much of their messenger and attachment storage they have used. If Gallery and Downloads are installed, the existing statistics overview provided by these apps are also available here. Content Statistics Warnings & Restrictions This block shows recent warnings on the account, and also highlights if any restrictions (i.e. content moderation, restricted from posting, or application-level restrictions) are being applied, which previously was difficult to see at a glance. Warnings & Restrictions Block for an account which has content moderation in effect Account Activity On the right is a pane which shows all of the latest account activity. While this was available in previous versions (called "Member History") we have made some significant improvements: The number of things that get logged has been significantly expanded. We now log photo changes, group changes, when a new device is used to login, if an account is locked (by failed logins or failed two factor authentication attempts) or unlocked, password/email/display name changes, when a user links or unlinks a social network login method, initial registration and validation, merges, being flagged/unflagged as a spammer, receiving/acknowledging/revoking a warning, restrictions being applied, two factor authentication being enabled/disabled/changed, an OAuth token being issued if Invision Community is being used as an OAuth Server, enabling/disabling receiving bulk mails, and accepting the privacy policy / terms and conditions, as well as all of the Commerce-related information that is already logged. Much more information is now shown such as who made the change (i.e. an admin, the user themselves, or if it was changed by the REST API or syncing with a social network) and how the change was made (for example, for a password change - if the user used the "Forgot Password" tool or changed it in their Account Settings) and what the data was before and after. This includes being aware of if the change was made by an admin after using the "Sign in as User" tool. You can now filter what information you are seeing to quickly find what you are looking for. Recent Account Activity Extensibility The new profile has been designed with extensibility in mind. Third party developers can easily add new blocks our even entire new tabs. Any apps/plugins which are currently adding a tab to the "Edit Member" form will retain backwards compatibility with their tab continuing to appear when clicking the "Edit Preferences" button in the basic account information pane.

  21. ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Friday that if a member curses the parliament, then it means that he is cursing himself. Speaking on Geo News programme, Abbasi said a member of the parliament should speak after due deliberation. "Those who indulged in cursing [the parliament] should apologise, or else they will get an answer in the election." The comments by the prime minister come days after an 'anti-government' rally in Lahore, at which Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan had cursed the Parliament for allowing Nawaz Sharif's re-election as the party head after his disqualification. "I give Laanat (curse) the parliament that made a criminal the president of a party," he said, in an apparent reference to ousted premier Nawaz Sharif being elected the PML-N president. Imran's remarks followed the repeated cursing of the parliament from Rasheed, who also announced his resignation from the assembly. Qadri's placement on ECL The prime minister denied placement of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Dr Tahirul Qadri's name on the Exit Control List (ECL). "According to my knowledge, Tahirul Qadri has Canadian citizenship," he said, adding that the PAT chief was not alone on the stage of Lahore rally, but leadership of major political parties was also accompanied him. Abbasi said, "Controversial statements were also made regarding the parliament from the stage, of which the House took notice." He said whatever Tahirul Qadri is doing is being seen; he is on the roads. "I had this thing in my mind whether a foreign citizen can issue anti-government statements," the premier said, adding they would take notice of the PAT's chief's statement regarding toppling the government.

Photo: AFP files WASHINGTON: A member of the US military was killed and four others wounded during a New Year´s Day combat operation in Afghanistan, officials said Tuesday. According to the NATO mission in Kabul, the "combat engagement" occurred in Achin, in the restive Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan. "Two wounded service members are being treated at a nearby medical treatment facility and are in stable condition. The other service members have returned to duty," NATO said in a statement. Officials did not disclose which branch of the military the troops were from, and no other information was immediately available. While Afghan security forces are conducting most of the fighting against the Taliban and other insurgent groups, US troops operate alongside them in a training capacity and are frequently on the front lines. The United States hopes 2018 will see the Afghans finally seize the momentum against the Taliban after years of stalemate. 2017 was a particularly deadly year for Afghans, with the number of civilian casualties on track to be one of the highest on record since an insurgency backed by US air power toppled the Taliban in 2001. More than 8,000 civilians were killed or wounded in conflict-related violence in the first nine months of last year, according to data compiled by the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan.
