  1. Tipped as favourites to win the ICC World Cup in England & Wales, the Indian cricket team suffered a heart-breaking exit from the tournament after losing the semifinal to New Zealand. For a team that was comprised of match-winners and proven stars, Virat Kohli & Co. couldn't do much against the resilient Kiwis. Their ouster sparked a massive backlash from fans and the Indian selectors, notably chief MSK Prasad was blamed for failing to find the winning squad. The Indian selection committee's inability to fix the much-debated problem of No. 4 batsman, which played a part in the semifinal, further drew criticism from every corner. © Reuters While Team India and the selectors have moved on from their World Cup exit, former Indian wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer is still stuck on it. Lashing out at the Indian selection committee, Engineer labelled the panel as the "Mickey Mouse" committee and questioned their credentials to hold such an important job. Irked by the incompetence of the current Indian selectors, the former Indian cricketer went on to recall a moment from the 2019 World Cup where the sight of an Indian selector serving tea to captain Kohli's wife Anushka Sharma in the VIP box left him feeling disgusted. Highlighting their inexperience, Engineer suggested that experienced players, who have knowledge of Test cricket and international cricket, should be in the selection committee rather than the current panel whose experience is restricted to a mere 10-12 Test matches combined. © Reuters “We have got a Mickey Mouse selection committee. Virat Kohli has a major impact (in the process) which is very good. But how are the selectors qualified? Between them, have they played about 10-12 Test matches. I didn't even know one of the selectors during the World Cup and I asked him 'who the hell he was' because he was wearing the India blazer and he said he was one of the selectors. All they were doing was getting Anushka Sharma (Kohli's wife) cups of tea. I feel people with the stature of Dilip Vengsarkar should be in the selection committee,” Engineer was quoted as saying by TOI. Apart from that, Engineer, who played Ranji Trophy for Mumbai from 1958-59 to 1975-76, also slammed the selectors for mishandling Rishabh Pant. "They shouldn't have dropped him (from the ODI team). They should have picked him ahead of Dinesh Karthik (for the World Cup) for him to get as much experience with MS Dhoni," he said. © Reuters Besides, the former Indian glovesman hailed the appointment of Sourav Ganguly as the new President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with high hopes from 'Dada'. "He was a dashing player, a captain who took bold decisions and I hope he does the same thing as board president," Engineer said. View the full article
  2. Thirteen points adrift from Premier League leaders and arch-rivals City, Manchester United strengthened their position to finish second this season with an emphatic 2-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday. There were some serious doubts over United's ability to contain the fast-paced attacking play of the Kops, but in the end, the Red Devils achieved the impossible through Marcus Rashford's brace at Old Trafford. Jose Mourinho's particular style of man management does not suit all tastes, nor is it always successful. But, when the right technique is used on the right player, it can inspire the perfect response - the one that propelled them to a five-point lead on the second spot over the weekend. © Twitter The victory over the Reds undoubtedly restored the faith of Man Utd fans in their controversial manager and also served as a reminder for their rivals - other than neighbours Man City - that they are still the second-best team in the league. However, all their hardwork and efforts eventually went in vain after pictures of Marouane Fellaini's abhorrent photoshoot surfaced on the social media. © Twitter Posing for a magazine photoshoot, the United midfielder - whose trademark afro has already served great purpose for hilarious memes - experimented with some extreme looks for their spring summer issue. © Twitter In another photo, Fellaini looked no different than Coronation Street character Hilda Ogden as he donned a headscarf and had his frizzy locks pulled. Apart from the photoshoot, Fellaini also gave an interview on the sidelines where he discussed his reputation for being overly aggressive, his manager Mourinho and his country Belgium's chances at the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia. But, it appears that no one is interested in what he had to say, as the football fanatics across the globe took turns to troll United and their controversial player.
