  1. Apparently Bollywood looked at the incredible Marvel Cinematic Universe and said, “I want some of that”. But, who needs superheroes when you have cops? Rohit Shetty is obviously THE guy who makes cop movies in Bollywood and has made three box office hits and 100 crore club movies with 'Singham', 'Singham Returns', and 'Simmba'. Now, he wants to tie all of the movies together in one Cinematic Universe and he has already started that process with Akshay Kumar's cameo in 'Simmba' as a way to introduce his character Veer Sooryavanshi for his own upcoming movie. Much like MCU's 'Captain Marvel', Rohit Shetty now also wants to have a female cop added to his 'Singham Cinematic Universe' after the release of 'Sooryanvanshi' starring Akshay Kumar. During a panel discussion at the FICCI Frames 2019, he said, “Soon we will be making it. We have a story in mind. We will do it definitely. We will take a year or so but we plan to do that to complete the universe.” He went on to explain his inspiration behind this cinematic universe, which was obviously Marvel. He also added that big-budget superhero movies are not really a possibility in the Hindi film industry at the moment. “Whatever happens in America, Hollywood, happens here ten years down the line. That's been the theory always. When I was watching the Avengers series I got an idea that why don't we create a universe. Obviously we don't have the kind of budget to make many super heroes movies year after year. Then I thought to make a cop universe from Simmba onwards.” He added, “I was a bit scared before the release of Simmba because this was happening for the first time in our country. I knew that youngsters and kids will know, because they have seen Avengers, but our mature audience hasn't seen that. I had doubts merging two worlds, but it worked big time.” Well, good for you, Mr Shetty! Let's just hope this doesn't really ruin MCU for us.image4
  2. 'Kesari' is one of the most awaited action-drama movies of the year. Starring Akshay Kumar, the movie retells the tale of the battle of Saragarhi, when 21 Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army defeated 10 thousand Pashtun tribesmen. The trailer has already set the bar very high. Akshay Kumar shared a super-interesting video of the making of the movie, which gives us a glimpse into all the action that went down during the behind-the-scenes struggle for the cast and the crew. The battle of Saragarhi is one of the biggest battles in the history of the world and one which finds prominent mention everywhere. Naturally, recreating the set-up, doing all the action in a high altitude place like Spiti was very difficult as the video explains in detail. It is always interesting to see such videos which explain the nuances of a craft, because all we see on the big screen is the final product eventually. 'Kesari' is all set to release on 21st March.
  3. The original 'Doom' movie that came out in 2005 failed to put up a good show. Both 'Doom' fans and the critics hated it despite having a good cast like Karl Urban, Rosamund Pike, The Rock, and more. Since the original movie turned out to be a hot mess, we're now being hit with a new one called 'Doom: Annihilation', which is slated to arrive this fall. © YouTube 'Doom: Annihilation', as we know it, is a direct-to-video adaptation of the Doom video game franchise. It's being produced by Universal 1440 Entertainment, a division of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Well, the first trailer of the movie just hit the internet yesterday, and it looks like the original developers of the game aren't really impressed. Here's the trailer if you haven't watched it yet - In all fairness, it's too early to judge a movie prematurely with just a trailer, but it doesn't seem to invoke any excitement whatsoever. In fact, when someone asked the developers of the original game 'id Software' about the trailer, they quickly disowned. Here, check it out - We're not involved with the movie. https://t.co/Du3wHSHk44 — DOOM (@DOOM) March 11, 2019 Well, let's just hope that the movie will be much more intriguing and action-packed than the trailer itself. 'Doom: Annihilation' is written and directed by Tony Giglio, and it stars Amy Manson, Dominic Mafham, Luke Allen-Gale and Nina Bergman.
  4. The entire nation cheered with pride when Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was released by his Pakistani captors to come back home and serve his country once again. From people in small villages to the Bollywood fraternity, every nook and cranny of the country was thrilled to welcome him back home, like a hero who'd just returned from war. © Twitter From people naming their newborns after him to some men aping his gunslinger moustache, everyone has been in awe of the brave pilot, whose presence of mind during his capture will always be remembered. Recently, some folks took to Twitter and raised notions about making a movie about him and also suggested that Ranveer Singh would be best suited to play him in the biopic! Fair enough, Ranveer with his rogue style and a definite moustache clash with Abhinandan can do apt justice to the role for sure. © Twitter While we're sure a movie will definitely surface on Abinandan's bravery, it's just a wait-and-watch situation as to when that happens. After all, we're eager to see who plays him. But for now, the audience seems pleased with Ranveer and here are some endearing tweets they've shared. @RanveerOfficial Why don't you try a Abhinandan style moustache. #AbhinandanMoustache — Pulkit Shah (@pulkitshahh) 3 March 2019 #SanjayLeelaBhansali to produce a film on Balakot airstrike.https://t.co/rJ1vOAQM6J — Filmfare (@filmfare) 4 March 2019 Now he'll cast @RanveerOfficial as Abhinandan — Mohammed Touqeer (@mohd_touqeer_) 5 March 2019 Ranveer Singh to Play "Abhinandan" in Movie Wo 56 Ghante! https://t.co/ZoaTB5z8ZB — sargamarora (@comsargamarora) 4 March 2019 You should enact Abhinandan when his Bio/ Pulwama attack movie will be made — Police (@snjay0) 3 March 2019 You missed one thing Ranveer singh to play the character of abhinandan varthman. — Pinkesh D Chawda (@ChawdaPinkesh) 4 March 2019 I propose that Ranveer Singh should play the role of #Abhinandan in the Bollywood movie about to be made - no one else can carry off that moustache. P.S.: And PLEASE! Not Salman Khan! — The Bad Doctor (@DOCTORATLARGE) 1 March 2019 Any guesses who would play Abhinandan- Ranveer Singh — Deepak Rastogi (@dpakrastogi) 5 March 2019 @RanveerOfficial You should totally inact Respectable WING COMMANDER #Abhinandan We as public will be inspired to see his journey through you! — Mini (@Mini76541361) 5 March 2019 Ranveer Singh as Abhinandan? Too Mooch! https://t.co/Kt01cjFsmf — Deep Halder (@daipayanhalder) 5 March 2019 While the grapevine does tell us that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is going to make a movie on the Balakot airstrikes and with so many people supporting Ranveer to play Abhinandan's role, we're sure Bhansali will definitely consider him.
  5. Yes, you read it right. If things do go right, ace musician Bappi Lahiri soon might be the sound master for one of the Marvel movies in the near future. He is already in conversation with the production team and things are looking good for him. © Instagram Well, if you remember, his song 'Jhoom Jhoom Baba' was used for 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' back in 2017 and even Chris Pratt was taken by surprise. "I am currently in talks with Marvel Studios. They had used my song Jhoom Jhoom Jhoom baba. Chris Pratt, the hero of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, had really liked the song. So maybe a song (by me) will be used in their next film. I will go to Hollywood in April," Bappi told IANS in a telephonic interview. Bappi Lahiri will also be seen in a fantastic collaboration with rappers Snoop Dogg and Akon as well. Bappi Lahiri is already making a movie this year titled 'Ek Adhura Sangeet' © Instagram If you're wondering about a possible biopic on the interesting man, well, he has had the same thought. There is nothing in the pipeline yet but he wants Ranveer Singh to play his role, if at all this happens. The man has a career that expands over 4 decades, so well, are you ready to listen to some Bappi Da in the next Marvel adventure?
  6. 'Gully Boy'opened to rave reviews and immense appreciation, both at the box office and by the audience. While it was already expected that Zoya Akhtar'storytellingng will kill it with the brilliance of Alia and Ranveer mixed together, what really stood out as a brilliant surprise was the character of MC Sher, played by actor Siddhant Chaturvedi. View this post on Instagram Polished over time, some words. Rusted over dreams, some feelings. . #SundaySymphony . However, like most successful stories, Siddhant had his own share of blows and lows to reach where he is right now. He shared his story of how acting happened and what all he traded on his way up to reach this juncture with 'Humans Of Bombay'. View this post on Instagram “My father has always been fond of Cinema, so he'd take me to watch movies every Friday & my love affair with Cinema began. My dad would play Salman songs on tape & I'd dance! I even had Shahrukh's 'COOL' necklace! I was always inclined towards art-the first poem I wrote was for a girl in 9th grade. She turned me down, but I continued writing, not knowing where it'd lead. Still, my primary career option was to become a CA, like my father! So I studied, never once thinking about acting. That seed was planted when in college, I got into the drama team. I realised I loved it! But I had to leave it to focus on my CA exams. Between college & my classes–I barely slept! But I knew I had to finish my education– I was doing it for the heck of it, but once I started, I needed to reach that finish line. So I cleared my exams, just 15 marks away from the rank! If you ask me, what my biggest achievement is–it's not acting. I knew I'd achieve that, but it's passing my exams, because that's something I never wanted to do. Later, before my finals, I asked my dad for time to focus on acting. I'd go with my friends to auditions. In my first audition, they told me to 'learn how to look at the camera first & then come back.' But through it all, my dad was my true MC Sher. He said, 'be patient & don't undersell yourself ever, to always chase my dreams & he'll give me food & a roof so that I could do what I wanted. He gave me the freedom to decide & dream. So after 4 years of struggle, with more auditions & more rejections, Inside Edge happened. Because the makers had a vision which my talent fit into! After which– I met Zoya Akhtar at the success party & danced with her on Gallan Goodiyan. As fate would have it, she asked me to audition for Gully Boy, for the role that changed my life. After the release, I received a letter from Mr. Amitabh Bachchan himself & when I handed that over to my father, the biggest Bachchan fan, it was the best moment of my life. His face said it all. 7. The #MeToo movement in India brought about a certain level of awareness and power, which was much needed in order to break the silence of the victims and declare to the world that silence is not a sign of weakness. Actress Tanushree Dutta led the fight when she accused Nana Patekar of harassing her during a movie shoot. While Bollywood stayed quiet for a long time, it eventually opened a can of worms after many celebrities were called out in the light of the movement. One such name which surprised and shocked everyone in equal measure was that of Alok Nath's. © Twitter He was accused of harassment by director-producer Vinta Nanda which the actor clearly denied. However, in a bizarre incident of irony being lost somewhere, as per the latest report, Alok Nath will be essaying the role of a judge in a movie titled '#MainBhi' which is about fighting against sexual harassment. Yeah, weird right? The movie is directed by Nasir Khan and in an interview, actor Khalid Siddiqui explained the concept. “The film deals with child molestation, a subject that hasn't been tapped on screen often, particularly with regard to boys. My character, along with the other, are affected by incidents that change our lives. We hope the film starts a debate on the subject.” When Alok Nath was contacted by Mirror, he said, “I'm not doing any films at the moment. This was something I shot for a while ago. Is there a problem? You sound sad that I'm doing a film. It's a puny role for poor producers, let it release.” © Twitter Well, looks like irony will get crushed under his gavel in the movie for sure.

  9. For time immemorial, popcorn has been mostly (and strictly) associated with visits to the cinema halls around town. Eventually, it somehow morphed into an unspoken agreement between the parties heading out to the theatres, that intervals call for a bucket or two of salted popcorns and one of the many fizzy drinks to go with it, at the least. Times changed, PVRs came into existence and the menus at the movie theatres also went on to become more extensive. But the good ol' popcorn remained a hot favourite with the movie-goers, with its sprinkling of salt and nostalgia to keep us company through the many hours we spent laughing and crying at the silver screen. (c) MensXP So when the time came for Chirag Gupta to give wings to his entrepreneurial dreams, he decided to reintroduce how Indians enjoyed their most trusted movie companion - popcorn. Chirag, along with his friend and co-founder Ankur Gupta came up with the plan to bring gourmet popcorns to Indians, and that's how premium popcorn brand 4700 BC came into being in 2013. Ever since, the duo has changed how Indians have interacted with popcorn. The gourmet makeover that 4700 BC gave the humble popcorn became an instant hit, and there was no looking back after that. The Backstory Back in 2012 when Chirag had been already working with Deloitte Consulting in the US for five years, he decided that it was time to go back home and start something of his own, because working for someone else was not an option he was ready to consider. Chirag shares that, “at that point, my thought was that now I have enough money, so let's go back to India and try something of our own.” (c) MensXP Once he got back to the country, Chirag got in touch with his childhood friend Ankur and shared his plans with him. Fortunately for both of them, they were equally thrilled by the prospect of building something of their own and taking it to new heights. The Initiation Once the discussions reached fruition, they decided to explore the growing food industry in India. Soon plans were laid out for gourmet popcorn (and a few other ideas), and “the next thing we knew, we hired a chef who started developing out recipes. (c) MensXP Soon the duo learnt about the intricacies of the business, which was already popular in the US, and realised that they would have to import everything from machinery to raw materials from the US. Once the setup bit was sorted, things began to fall in place for their company. But Chirag tells us that the major high came from “getting a store in DLF Saket, which was a premium location in Delhi. We got the first store running there and the response was superb.” The Next Step The first year went well for the company, but soon they realised that they need to get better at their own game to retain their consumers. That's the only challenge they faced since no one else in India was doing something similar, so no one was really aware of the nuances of this line of business. (c) MensXP Talking about challenges Chirag says that, “it is important in every entrepreneur's life because until you see the pain and challenges, you don't think about taking the business to its next level.” 4700 BC Today Today, 4700 BC popcorns are available in 18 different flavours as opposed to the three basics flavours they offered in the beginning. What's more, 4700 BC is available across all PVR cinemas and the company sells approximately 12 lakh units every month! The company's turnover was at Rs. 10 crores in 2017-18 and it only continues to get better and bigger with every passing day. Learn more about 4700 BC from its co-founder as he shares industry insights and advice for aspiring entrepreneurs to make it big in their venture.
  10. The sixth season of 'Koffee With Karan' is hands down the best and the most controversial season of all time. And we're sure no one understands the controversy aspect better than Hardik Pandya, who is till date being trolled and bashed for his comments on the show. But, this season of 'Koffee With Karan' is not just about gossip, controversy, or gift hamper. It was also about an Audi A5 which most of us were reminded about recently, after the winner was announced. FYI, the best 'Answer Of The Season' (AOTS) was supposed to get the car. © Star World *Drumrolls* We have a winner for the Audi A5 Sportback, guys! To be honest, it's the most unexpected name. While most of us were hoping for Ranveer, Deepika, Alia, Katrina or the 'Baahubali' gang to win it, KJo's special panel of judges reportedly announced Ajay Devgn as the winner. However, his victory is not the concern here. What matters is that Ajay Devgn won a car, actually an Audi car, for trolling his own movie he starred in way back in 2005. Remember 'Kaal'? Yes, the same movie, starring Ajay Devgn, Lara Dutta, Esha Deol, John Abraham and Vivek Oberoi, which is known more for its songs than the storyline. © Star World In the show, Karan asked Ajay about one superstition he is guilty of believing. Ajay said, "I had this superstition that all your films with 'K' work, till we did Kaal." That film bombed miserably at the box office. The panel of judges included Kirron Kher, Malaika Arora, Mallika Dua and Vir Das. It's surprising how Malaika chose Ajay Devgn's response over Arjun Kapoor's. Maybe, because she was in the song 'Kaal Dhamaal'. © Instagram Reportedly, Ajay was handed over the keys on Thursday.
  11. Ever since the trailer of 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga' was released, one thing was clear that it's not going to be just another regular Bollywood love story starring Rajkummar Rao and Sonam Kapoor. Yet, people had high hopes and ever higher doubts from this movie and wondered if it will be able to do justice to the sensitive topic it was trying to highlight. © Fox Star Studios The movie finally hit the theatres today and fans are not disappointed at all. Sonam Kapoor, who plays a lesbian in the movie, has done a brilliant job and this is not a fangirl speaking. Her acting is truly impressive. So is Rajkummar Rao's, who pulls off his character with utmost brilliance. © Fox Star Studios Recently, the makers of the film hosted a special screening for their Bollywood friends and the early reviews speak volumes about the efficiency with which the storyline was handled. From her 'Padman' co-star Akshay Kumar, Farah Khan Kunder, Ayushmann Khurrana to Sonam and Rajkummar's fans; celebrities have flooded social media with congratulatory messages applauding the team and the movie. 12. Priyanka Chopra is back to work after a month-long hiatus courtesy her lavish wedding to Nick Jonas. She was on Ellen De Generes' popular show where she announced that her next big project will be a biopic on Ma Anand Sheela, which will be a very exciting project for sure. Currently, she is awaiting the release of her next Hollywood movie 'Isn't It Romantic' which stars Rebel Wilson and Chris Hemsworth. The romantic comedy follows the story of Natalie, an architect who tries very hard to get noticed at her job. Priyanka is playing the role of a Yoga ambassador in the movie. The movie is hitting theatres in February but there's some good news for Indian fans, because this will be her first movie which will release on Netflix directly on 28th February. In terms of Bollywood releases, Priyanka will be seen in 'The Sky Is Pink' opposite Farhan Akhtar.
  13. The much-awaited teaser of Salman Khan's 'Bharat' is out and looks like the Eid of 2019 is going to be a great one for both Salman and his fans. The teaser begins with an overcrowded train entering a railway station in Pakistan, hinting at the time of Partition of India. Then enters the 'Dabangg' Khan aka Salman and takes over the 1 minute 30 seconds video as Bharat, a man who is beyond caste, creed, religion and surname. In fact, in the voiceover, Salman Khan says that his father named him Bharat, after his country. © Salman Khan Films In the teaser, Salman appears to have multiple professions and adventures. He first appears as a badass motorcyclist who jumps through a ring of fire like it's nobody's damn business. He is then shown as a Navy officer and then an ageing boxer. Honestly, this 1 minute 30 seconds video looks better than the 2 hours 40 minutes called 'Race 3'. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, 'Bharat' also stars Katrina Kaif, Jackie Shroff, Sonali Kulkarni, Disha Patani and Nora Fatehi. For those who don't know, 'Bharat' is a remake of a 2014 Korean movie called 'An Ode To My Father'. 'Bharat' is expected to release in June during Eid.
  14. Bollywood is responsible for giving life to the love stories that some of us weave in our hearts when we imagine it for ourselves. While we might wonder if true love even exists in this millennial world, there are some real life examples in the form of actor Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa who have redefined the word 'relationship goals' for us. © Instagram The beautiful couple shared their relationship story with 'Offcial Humans Of Bombay' and gave out candid details of how their 8-year-old relationship is still going very strong. “I saw him for the first time in LSD. I thought the weird guy he played was actually what he was like. My perception of him was tarnished! He told me later, that he first saw me in an ad & thought, 'I'm going to marry her.' It was so ironic! Once we began working together–it was magic. The kind of passion he had was powerful & I couldn't respect him any more than I did then! We spoke about our work, love for cinema, passions… I saw him through his struggles, never giving up. How could we not fall for each other? We didn't officially go on dates, but we'd go for drives, movies, or just sit at home. We accompanied each other for auditions, just for support. All we needed was that understanding. He'd often go out of his way for me. Once he was late to see me, so he ran all the way from the airport to Juhu! Not only that, but when we weren't earning much, he gifted me my favorite bag–it was so expensive! Years later, someone stole it in London! I called him sobbing–for me, it was about the memories. He'd bought it for me when he didn't have much. Later, at our hotel, the exact same bag was waiting for me. These little things make me realize how lucky I am for him.And the best part is, he always says he's the lucky one. Isn't that what a relationship needs? To remind each other how grateful we are? He told me once that after I met his mom, she said, 'I have a feeling she's the last one I'm meeting.' She was right–we've been together for 8 years. We're equals–when an article said, 'Rajkumar with his girlfriend, Patralekhaa', he retweeted–'Patralekhaa with her boyfriend Rajkumar.' I can tell you this, when you find the one–through the fights, hurdles & chaos, you should never forget to let them know you love them. It doesn't have to be with expensive gifts & dates–it can simply be with the way you hold them while they need it & when they don't. For us, we don't know what the future holds, but this, being together, is enough.” © Instagram The couple worked together in Hansal Mehta's 'Citylights' which was also Patralekhaa's debut movie. Rajkummar is currently looking forward to the release of his movie 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga' which is releasing next month. The next time you wonder if true love will ever coming knocking your way, well, trust your stars and read this story again.

  16. There used to be a time when Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte was a completely unknown name. Back in the day, with zero videos of her bouts online and not even a single news channel covering her progress, if you'd told her that one day, she is going to be ranked number 1 in the whole world by the International Boxing Federation (AIBA), she would have knocked you out cold with an uppercut for mocking her. #WWCHs2018 Finals - Light Fly (48kg)@MangteC (IND) defeats Mi Hyang Kim (PRK) and becomes 2018 AIBA World Champion!! Despite her soon-to-be coach Leishangthem Ibomcha Singh, who was responsible for bringing up around 50 international medal winners from within the state of Manipur, constantly challenging her, and her aspirations of becoming a pugilist, Mary, like any stubborn teenager, stuck to what she wanted. Living in an insurgency-bound Imphal, Mary's journey to success was full of constant terror and adversities. With endless reports of kidnappings, shootings and bombings ever since Manipur's merging with India, the idea of 'do whatever your heart says' wasn't exactly a number one priority for the people living there. In fact, the situation was so bad up there, that even Mary Kom's own father-in-law was murdered by the insurgents soon after she got married to Onler Kom in 2005. While there's no denying Mary Kom's hard work and raw passion for the sport that has taken her this far in life, it is Onler Kom, Mary's husband who has been her anchor during the experience. Full of compassion and regard for her wife, Onler has never backed out of supporting her dreams. “I knew her dreams and was ready to help her in every way," Onler told The Times of India. “I had my own dreams, but when I came to know her it changed… I married her for her simplicity and her willingness to become a successful sportswoman.” View this post on Instagram “A man's success is measured by what his wife and children say about him. Mary once said that there lies a story of struggle behind every medal that she's ever won. In her long, successful and inspirational career, the Arjuna and Padma Shri awardee has made and broken various records whilst becoming the most successful boxer in the history of Women's World Championships by winning a record 6th gold medal last year. Recently ranked Number One in the world, Mary Kom has no intentions of throwing in the towel just yet as she has already begun preparing for Tokyo Olympics 2020.

  19. It was back in 2008 when India first discovered a whole new side of director and screenwriter Farhan Akhtar. We witnessed the man charm his way to the silver screen so effortlessly, in the musical drama 'Rock On!!', which became a stellar hit at the box office! The movie went on to become Farhan's first official stint in front of the camera, after having spent close to two decades behind it, first as an assistant director and then with his directorial debut in 2001 with 'Dil Chahta Hai'. View this post on Instagram #thefakirofvenice Coming Soon ð #FarhanAkhtar ð A post shared by Bollyworld (@bolllywood_lovers) on Mar 21, 2017 at 8:15am PDT But did you know that 'Rock On!!' wasn't even supposed to be Farhan's debut movie? Yes, you read that right. Even before 'Rock On!!' hit the screens, Farhan had already made his acting debut with 'The Fakir of Venice', but unfortunately the movie never saw the light of the day. But worry not, no missed trains here! If you love the dude and his fresh and relatable acting skills, you would be delighted to know that the movie is finally set to release this year! After all the great movies he sent our way, be it 'Rock On', 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara', 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', 'Dil Dhadakne Do, 'Rock On 2' or 'Lucknow Central' besides many others, we can't wait to see how it all started. © October films Now, with the movie's release, Farhan's fans might finally get their chance. But that's not all, we bring you 5 things that you need to know about the movie, so you can prepare yourself for what's coming your way. 1. The movie stars Farhan Akhtar and Annu Kapoor in lead roles. While the music has been given by none other than A. R. Rahman, it is slated to release on 18th January. 2. In an interview with IANS, director Anand Surapur said that the initial release was delayed because of production issues. © October Films 3. The movie is based on human behaviour, and traces how humans behave and react to various situations in life, based on their needs and goals. 4. The plot of the film revolves around a con act involving two Indian men, who wish to make some quick bucks, and travel to Venice for the purpose. Farhan's character is that of a man who has been hired to find a Fakir, who will bury himself in sand for an installation project. On the other hand, Annu Kapoor plays the role of fascinating slum dweller-turned-Fakir. 20. Two years ago I did a story on how video games are much larger than movies/TV shows because of its flexibility in storytelling. I've been playing choice-based games ever since it was introduced to video games and the popular storytelling style was taken mainstream thanks to games from studios like “Telltale Games”. You would have to make choices that would change the plot of the story drastically and it seems like Netflix took my challenge seriously. © Mensxp Netflix is now taking the interactive-based storytelling style to mainstreams shows like “Black Mirror” and it works like a charm. The streaming giant already introduced the interactive feature to kids content like 'Puss In Boots'. I was invited to Los Gatos to check out 'Bandersnatch' - a brand new Black Mirror movie where I could choose my own story by clicking on multiple-choice questions that would affect the plot. It's Netflix's first interactive content for adults and is now available to stream/play on various devices. 'Bandersnatch' is a story about a game developer who is looking to make a video based on a “create-your-own fantasy” book of the same name. The game he sets out to develop also happens to have a series of choices for players. We learn during the early chapter that the author of the original 'Bandersnatch' went completely nuts while he was writing his book and ended up killing his wife. You will face a similar dilemma when you make choices for “Stefan” in Bandersnatch. © Netflix One of the key moments in 'Bandersnatch' is when Stefan is offered a job and it's up to you whether you want to accept or decline the offer. While exchanging notes with my peers at the conference, it was quite cool to notice that 90% of the people answered “Yes” while I declined the job offer. This is where the interactive storytelling feature makes things exciting. Not only did I experience a completely different story from my counterparts, I even experienced a very different ending. Apparently, there are five different endings in 'Bandersnatch' and I happened to experience three of them. © Netflix What's cool about the interactive feature is the ability to go back and change your choices. In fact, I ended up spending more time retracing my choices simply because I wanted to see if I could break the plot — I couldn't. That's probably because they're over a million if not a trillion unique permutations of the story. There are a plethora of choices you will need to make that can impact the story or sometimes just change certain details. The overall plot of 'Bandersnatch' also responds and adapts to your choices just like you would experience it in video games. For instance, in the very beginning, you will choose what cereal to eat for breakfast. You will notice later in the movie how the plot responded to your choice. How Did Netflix Make It Happen Choice-based video games are easier to make as these games are coded from the ground up to provide an ecosystem for such a feature to flourish. The same cannot be said about a live-action movie as it's way more complicated. You need to shoot multiple scenes from different angles, shoot different reactions to choices and make sure you follow every permutation with utmost accuracy. Netflix engineers built their very own script-writing tool that enables them to tell choice-based narratives. Netflix calls it a Branch Manager where there were able to track every choice and the flow of the narrative based on each choice. Netflix also pre-caches content so that users can stream the content even with poor internet and the app now pre-caches two paths every time you are faced with a choice. Due to this very reason, the interactive episode can be experienced only on supported devices such as Android smartphones, iOS devices, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and certified Smart TVs. Is It Still Black Mirror? © Netflix Hell yes! Just like every other Black Mirror episode — 'Bandersnatch' ends up f*cking with your head as well. However, since you are making the choices for the protagonist, the head-f*cking is a lot more amplified. This is precisely why the interactive feature was a perfect fit for a Black Mirror movie. I have to confess, when I was introduced to the feature at the conference, I quickly dismissed it as a Telltale rip-off/gimmick. However, after experiencing the interactive movie for myself, I could not keep the remote down and make every choice possible to f*ck up Stefan's life. I soon realised what went behind in the making of 'Bandersnatch' and simply left the room with endless questions in my head. So yes, 'Bandersnatch' is a typical Black Mirror episode where you will be left in a state of shock and maybe even remorse. Is This The Future Of Entertainment? Streaming has already taken over our lives and Netflix is going in the right direction by involving its viewers in the plot of 'Bandersnatch'. It's a feature I always wanted on live-action content and Netflix has yet again proved me wrong. Sure, there's still room for traditional linear story-telling on Netflix, but the future of story-telling sure has taken a turn, thanks to 'Bandersnatch'. Just make sure you don't lose your remote while watching/experiencing the latest Black Mirror movie.

If you loved the mental madness of 'Get Out' and you're a fan of the brilliant mind called Jordan Peele, then you'll be happy to know that his next movie is coming soon and it is a horror movie. The trailer of 'Us' dropped as a Christmas present for movie buffs and needless to say, it is the best gift for us, literally! The plot involves a family having a chill time at their beach residence when things go weird as they see some uninvited guests in the driveway. On a closer glance they realise they're a monstrous version of the family members themselves and this cloned family doppelgangers are lusting to kill the original family. © Blumhouse production The trailer looks interesting and manages to give us some jump scares as well. The movie stars Lupita Nyong'o and Winston Duke and is releasing in March 2019. Since Jordan Peele already took the Oscar home for 'Get Out', the expectations from this one are naturally super high.
