  2. The world has been struggling with COVID 19 for around two years now but as the cases started to dip, people came back on the streets. There are reports of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Amrita Arora having tested positive for the virus. They were spotted attending many parties in Mumbai recently without following the Covid protocols. As they have come in contact with others, this might be a cause of concern. View this post on InstagramRecently, the two friends were seen hanging out with Karisma Kapoor and Malaika Arora in Mumbai. According to reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has asked people who came in contact with Kareena and Amrita, to take the RTPCR test. ANI has confirmed the report. "Actors Kareena Kapoor Khan and Amrita Arora tested positive for #COVID19. Both of them had violated COVID norms and attended several parties. BMC has ordered people, who came in contact with the two actors, to undergo an RT-PCR test: BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation).” Vinayak Vispute, assistant commissioner of the H/West (Bandra West) ward said Kareena is currently in-home quarantine. People started trolling her brutally as they felt she wouldn’t be able to do justice to the role of Sita and also targeted her for asking Rs 12 crore for the role. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Bebo who usually asks in the Rs 6-8 crores range for her films has quoted a sum of Rs 12 crores which have put the producers in a tizzy. In fact, right now, they are reconsidering their decision and also taking the film to a younger actress, as well. But talks are on and Bebo remains the first choice.” According to the source, "Sita will need at least 8-10 months of prep, shoot, and production. So she will be completely consumed by one film at that point but Bebo also realizes that this will be her biggest magnum opus till date, as it's a retelling of Ramayana from Sita's point of view.” Kareena reacted to all trolling and chose dignity. “Just a few years ago, no one would talk about a man or woman actually getting equal pay in a movie. Now there are a lot of us being very vocal about it," she told the Guardian. She went on to add, “I make it quite clear what I want and I think that respect should be given. It’s not about being demanding, it’s about being respectful towards women. And I think things are kind of changing.” It’s high time people stop trolling. View the full article
  3. Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa’s relationship is a testimony to the fact that true love exists. They got married in an intimate wedding ceremony on November 15. The wedding ceremony took place in the presence of the couple’s close friends and family members. They got married at the Oberoi Sukhvilas Spa Resort, an 8,000-acre luxury hotel in the Siswan Forest Range, at the foothills of the Himalayas in New Chandigarh. The couple shared a wedding video wherein they are seen bashing patriarchal norms. Here’s the video: View this post on Instagram If you have seen the video, you would agree with the fact it’s magical and they look deeply in love. Rajkummar greets her with loud whistles before exchanging hand gestures for 'I love you.' Patralekhaa said, “Raj, it's been 11 years but I just feel like I have known you for a lifetime and not only this lifetime. I am sure it has been many lifetimes.” Rajkummar said that their connection is so deep that it doesn’t feel like they have known each other for these many years. “Honestly, it has been 10-11 years but it still feels like we've just started dating. We just love each other's company so much, we thought let's just do it. Let's just be husband and wife,” he says. As they exchanged the ‘varmalas’, Rajkummar tells Patralekhaa, “We keep saying this to each other but we are soulmates and I truly, truly believe that. Thank you for being my wife.” View this post on Instagram The biggest highlight is that Rajkummar finishes the video by putting vermilion on her forehead and asking her to do the same. With this, Rajkummar has shunned the patriarchal norms and proved that he is a real man and also a true feminist. The idea of feminism is to make sure that both genders are on an equal platform and, Raj and Patralekhaa are proof that equals can be happy together. View this post on Instagram In one of her earlier interviews with Humans of Bombay, Patralekhaa revealed how she first perceived Raj when she first saw him in Love *** Aur Dhokha (LSD). She said, "I thought that the weird guy he played in the film was actually what he was like. My perception of him was already tarnished. He told me later, that he had first seen me in an ad and thought, 'I'm going to marry her.' It was so ironic." View the full article
  4. For a long time Bollywood had been suffering from a particular kind of colour blindness. Somehow, everywhere you’d look you’d only see fair, white skinned faces playing leading roles. Almost as if it was a prerequisite to becoming a star in this cutthroat industry. In recent years though, Bollywood seems to have slowly woken up to the diversity available in our vast country. The same diversity that had long been appreciated in Hollywood and other international film industries. Here are seven actors who’ve made their mark on an industry that’s still hesitant about dark skin representation: Vicky Kaushal He’s come a long way from playing the deeply grounded Deepak in Masaan. Vicky has experienced a stratospheric rise in the industry in recent years and has become a reliable name in the industry. His brooding good looks have also won him admiration from his fans and finds his name held at the same standard as the top brass of Bollywood. View this post on Instagram Dhanush Tamil superstar Dhanush needs no introduction. He’s a force to be reckoned with and stands shoulder to shoulder with the giants of cinema. Dhanush is able to completely mould himself into the character he essays. His versatility has given us hits like Asuran and Vada Chennai. View this post on Instagram Nawazuddin Siddiqui Few actors have experienced struggle and discrimination the way Nawazuddin has. However, his talent has shone through brightly. Whether it be as the maniacal Gaitonde in Sacred Games or as the famed author Manto, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a bonafide tour de force in Bollywood now. View this post on Instagram Ajay Devgn At a time when the fairer Khans were omnipresent in Bollywood films, Ajay Devgn was making a name for himself as the gritty action star with a sensitive side. Safe to say, today, he's put on the same pedestal by his fans as the Khans. You can spot him in action in his upcoming film, Bhuj. 9. If you are blinded by the fact that the movie is headed by a star kid, then you are being unfair to the story of an unsung hero who we have completely ignored and didn’t talk about much. It’s the story of brave Gunjan Saxena, who became one of the first two women to fly in a combat zone during the 1999 Kargil War. In all the chaos of nepotism, we might forget that the movie is based on Gunjan Saxena and also stars actors like Pankaj Tripathi and Vineet Kumar Singh. The movie does dramatize Gunjan’s journey but manages to not go overboard with it. Sharan keeps the tone of the movie very humble and true to what the officer told him. The movie does deserve a watch because of the director’s attempt as not much information was available on Gunjan Saxena. The movie goes beyond the aspect of just celebrating Gunjan as it focuses on how supportive a father can be in the times when women were not allowed to chase their dreams. It’s a story of inspiration and courage even after being bogged down by the patriarchal notions. Coming to performances, Janhvi Kapoor did a decent job in portraying Gunjan Saxena. Well, it was expected more from her but she fell flat in the sequences where she had to be emotionally powerful. There’s a particular scene where she had to show that women are being suppressed by men but Janhvi couldn’t convey it powerfully. But, in the happy scenes, Janhvi did her bit and you would love her chirpiness. © Netflix Pankaj Tripathi as Gunjan’s father will make you fall in love with his character because he does no drama while portraying and keeps it very real. He is a father who wants his daughter to chase her dreams. Pankaj has, time and again, proved that he is someone who can pull off the easiest and most difficult of the roles. In the movie, he is a symbol of the progressive thought process and a man who believes in the concept of woman empowerment. © Netflix Vineet Kumar Singh as an Army officer depicts a more common portrayal of how men back in the 90s were. Back in those days, it was hard for men to accept that women can be pilots too, and here, Gunjan had joined the Air Force and is proving the old set notion wrong. Vineet is used as a symbol for men who can’t let their egos be defeated by women. His character tries everything possible to make it hard for Gunjan to survive in the male-dominated world. Vineet adds his charm to the character and he captures every scene in the movie. © Netflix Angad Bedi got less screen space and he plays the character of Gunjan’s brother. He is a metaphor for men who want to safeguard the interests of the women in the family. He is not very comfortable with Gunjan entering into the territory of men. He wants to protect her from the harsh society but in the end, he realizes that he doesn’t have to stop his sister from growing in his life. © Netflix Manav Vij and Ayesha Raza are also those actors who convincingly portray their characters. © Netflix © Netflix The problem with the movie is that it feels so rushed at the end. As a viewer, you would want to see more of the Kargil sequence and would be left a little less satiated. It would have been interesting if there were more of Kargil sequence. The editing and cinematography do give justice to the movie as they are done in accordance with the tone of the movie. I also loved the sound design aspect of the movie. In a nutshell, the script is good and you can enjoy it as a one-time watch. Also see it for Pankaj Tripathi, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Manav Vij. View the full article
  10. Charlize Theron poses on the red carpet as she arrives for the world premiere and screening of the movie 'Atomic Blonde' in Berlin, Germany, July 17, 2017/Reuters BERLIN: Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron said she hoped to even the playing field in the male-dominated spy film genre with her latest role as a deadly agent in action-thriller movie "Atomic Blonde." "I saw potential in this character," Theron, 41, told Reuters at the Berlin premiere of "Atomic Blonde" on Monday. "I wanted to explore a woman in this world and have her kind of play with the same set of rules that men get to play in," added the actress, who won an Academy Award for her role as a serial killer in the 2003 film "Monster." Scene from the movie 'Atomic Blonde' "Atomic Blonde," based on Antony Johnston's graphic novel series "The Coldest City" and out in theaters on July 28, follows MI6's lethal bisexual assassin Lorraine Broughton (Theron) in Berlin in 1989. Broughton is on a mission to recover a list of double agents, in a city simmering with revolution and double-crossing hives of traitors. Spy movies have been dominated by male leads, such as the "James Bond," "Mission Impossible" and "Bourne" franchise. Theron, who shows off her physical fighting prowess in the role, said "the skill of this was definitely a challenge. I wanted people to believe that she was that good."
