Apple Watch has been attributed for saving countless lives, primarily because of its health features. This time, an Apple Watch helped save a woman who was handcuffed to a bed, naked, by a home invader. The woman was able to contact her mother while the thief was going through her belongings. © Unsplash/bill-oxford According to local reports, the New Jersey woman came home to find a man in her room. The thief demanded money from the woman and then handcuffed her to a bed. Unbeknownst to the thief, the woman was able to use her Apple Watch and text her mother while she was handcuffed. Police then arrived just as the man was about to leave. “After being held captive for more than an hour, the victim complained she was cold sitting on the floor, according to her statements to police. This led Canning to handcuff her to a bed, leaving one of her hands-free, the affidavit states, and allowed the daughter to text her mother using her watch and told her to call the police.” What’s more shocking is that the woman’s mother was upstairs and unaware of what was going on. “The mother came downstairs to check on her daughter, unsure whether the message was serious. She was met by Canning who pointed the airsoft gun, which she and her daughter believed to be a lethal firearm, at her and again demanded money, records claim.” According to Andrew Canning’s court affidavit, the woman was threatened with a replica firearm and was asked to remove her clothes. She was asked to remove her clothes by Canning to ensure she wasn’t carrying a weapon. He then handcuffed her and left her naked on the floor, the victim told the police. © MensXP/Akshay Bhalla With one hand free, the victim was able to either text her mom or initiate the smartwatch’s Emergency SOS feature. The Apple Watch, when connected to an iPhone or using the onboard cellular feature, can activate the Emergency SOS feature by pressing and holding the side button. After a countdown, the watch automatically sends a text message to your emergency contact and calls emergency services as well. The Apple Watch has saved plenty of lives in the past using other health features, however, this may just be the first instance where the Apple Watch's Emergency SOS feature saved someone when the victim was handcuffed. The Apple Watch now has a new feature that warns you if you leave your phone behind. While this hasn’t been a feature up until now, it makes a lot of sense now that Apple has implemented it. Often people forget their iPhone at a coffee shop or at a store without realising it until it's too late. Now, if you are also wearing an Apple Watch, you will get notified as soon as you get further away from the iPhone. © Unsplash/lloyd-dirks The feature can be found on watchOS 8 in the Find Devices app on the smartwatch. You can toggle the option to “Notify When Left Behind.” It’s obvious that the Apple Watch uses a Bluetooth connection to ping both devices. When a user is 30 to 50 feet away from the iPhone, the Apple Watch will automatically get an alert letting you know that you’ve left your iPhone behind. © Reddit/RGGBV There would be instances around the house where you would like to freely move around without having to carry your iPhone everywhere. So, theoretically, any object or device that is compatible with the Find My app, Apple Watch users would get the same notification on the Apple Watch. Instagram Will No Longer Notify Users If Someone Screenshots Their Story

Instagram was testing a feature that would notify users if their stories were captured via a screenshot. The feature experimented for several months, however, it seems like Instagram has decided to cancel this feature altogether. © Twitter Instagram never really announced that the social media company was working on this feature and it was only available to select users. The beta testers would get a notification whenever someone would screenshot their story, similar to how it works on Snapchat. Users would see every screenshotter's username next to the camera shutter icon. © YouTube Instagram told BuzzFeed news, that the company has “officially ended this test.” There is a possibility that the company may incorporate some other form of screenshot protection into the app sometime in the future. As of now, users will be able to screenshot stories or record story videos shared by others without ever having their identities revealed. © Instagram Instagram did not detail why the company decided to ditch this feature. Screenshot notification is a marquee feature on Snapchat and this was clearly another feature lifted from Instagram's competitor. As of now, Instagram still alerts users when screenshots of disappearing direct messages are taken. -

Google now has a feature in its in-built flight searching tool where it will give you notifications about different prices of flights you are interested in. We as travellers often look up the cost of a flight ticket when planning a future vacation. Google Now will now pop up to tell you when the cheapest fare is available and will also notify you when it is expected to expire. © Google It will also show you a cost comparison as to how much you will end up saving if you book a ticket sooner than later. You will even have the option to track the flight or the route so that you receive notifications about fare increases. Of course, the information can’t be entirely accurate as Google uses information that is available based on historic data on flight costs. After using this feature, we found it very handy as it is a useful resource if you want to save money on flight tickets. © Pexels The Google Flights service is also being tweaked and improved upon for mobile users so that they can book a ticket on the go. The Google Flights service is not a standalone app but it is available via your mobile’s browser.
