  6. Former Indian Head Coach Ravi Shastri was recently asked if he thought Virat Kohli should continue as the batting opener for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. The batting line-up of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), particularly former skipper Virat Kohli's position, is one of the most talked-about topics ahead of the start of the 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). View this post on Instagram While some believe he should continue to open for RCB, others feel Kohli should return to the number three spot in the batting order to enhance the innings as the ball ages a little and the direction of the innings needs a little more experience behind it. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri weighed in on Kohli's batting position in the franchise's playing XI on Thursday. Last year, during IPL 2021, Kohli returned to his old role in the RCB lineup, with the goal of starting alongside Rohit Sharma for India in the T20 World Cup later that year. In 15 innings for RCB, he scored 339 runs at 28.9 with a strike rate of 119.5, including three half-centuries. Kohli, on the other hand, has always played at No. 3 for RCB in previous seasons. View this post on Instagram In an interview with ESPNCricinfo's video show T20 Time Out, Shastri gave a half-and-half response to the question about Kohli’s position in the batting lineup. While his first instinct was to watch the former RCB skipper bat at the number one or two spots, he went on to say that Kohli might be more useful to the squad’s requirements based on how strong the rest of the batting lineup may look by the time they play their first IPL 2022 match. Kohli's diminishing returns in the middle overs (7-15), where he has scored at 6.67 runs per over in the IPL since 2019, with a boundary every 12.7 balls, or more than two overs, are a good fit for a T20 side. On the other hand, the veteran cricketer averages 7.8 runs per over against the new ball, with a boundary every 5.2 deliveries. View this post on Instagram For now, it is reported that Virat Kohli will begin alongside skipper Faf du Plessis, giving RCB a much-needed quality opening duo. Anuj Rawat, a young Indian with little international experience, will bat at No. 3 before Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik. If Kohli bats one down, the RCB batting order will remain strong. Earlier this year, Kohli’s preceding RCB captain and New Zealand legend Daniel Vettori had opined that the Indian batter should stick to the opener’s position as it allows him more time to settle in and get accustomed to the pitch and that’s when he transforms into a devastating batter. 7. Team India got off to a winning start in the ODI series against the West Indies as the hosts registered a comfortable six-wicket win in Ahmedabad on Sunday. After winning the toss and opting to bowl, India took early wickets and didn't allow the visitors any chance to come back into the contest. All the bowlers clicked in unison as India managed to bowl West Indies out for 176 in the 44th over. Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts and he was adjudged player of the match for his spell of four for 49. Yuzvendra Chahal is adjudged the Man of the Match for his bowling figures of 4/49.#INDvWI @Paytm pic.twitter.com/AvsDGfiCeJ — BCCI (@BCCI) February 6, 2022 While it was close to a perfect game for the hosts, former India opening batter Aakash Chopra felt India should have involved the newcomer Deepak Hooda into the game with the ball. Chopra said Team India's tactics suggest that the team management does not agree with the selectors' choices of all-rounders. Congratulations to @HoodaOnFire who is all set to make his debut for #TeamIndia. #INDvWI pic.twitter.com/849paxXNgM — BCCI (@BCCI) February 6, 2022 The 44-year-old gave the examples of Venkatesh Iyer and Deepak Hooda. Venkatesh Iyer did not get much chance with the ball when he made his debut against South Africa recently and was dropped from the next series. "Venkatesh Iyer earlier. Hooda today. Kinda impossible to create all-rounders if they won’t get to bowl…Or…perhaps, selectors are picking players as all-rounders but the team management has little or no faith in their bowling abilities. #IndvWI," Chopra tweeted. Venkatesh Iyer earlier. Hooda today. Kinda impossible to create all-rounders if they won’t get to bowl…Or…perhaps, selectors are picking players as all-rounders but the team management has little or no faith in their bowling abilities. #IndvWI — Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) February 6, 2022 Reacting to Aakash Chopra's comments, some fans feel it is a plot by the team management to reserve Hardik Pandya's place in the Indian team till he attains full fitness. Are they picking them with a hope that they will fail so that they can bring back Pandiya brothers.. After IPL players are way more powerful and they can control much more than we can ever imagine. I think the plot is well planned to get the powerhouse Pandiya brothers back.. — Suvajit Banerjee (@SuvajitBanerj13) February 6, 2022Excatly.. if your not giving them the chance to bowl.. like how do they bowl all of a sudden in big matches ? They are never going to be ready.. . This is strange from Rohit and Co. . Makes no sense.. We are at grooming stage.. we need show some faith on them . — gowtham (@gowthamRule) February 6, 2022I think the latter. Selectors are in a hurry to replace Pandya but these quick fix won’t work. Rohit knows what it takes to be an intl allrounder. At this rate we will soon see Raj Bajwa selected for India. The desperation continues.. — Sriram Kuppuswamy (@SriramKuppuswa1) February 6, 2022The reluctance to give the ball to the newcomers as India search for a replacement for Hardik, who has been away from the scheme of things due to injuries and fitness issues, shows that the team management is not confident enough in the bench strength in terms of all-rounders. India have tried the likes of Vijay Shankar, Shivam Dube, Jayant Yadav but none of these names got an extended run and eventually, fell off the selectors' radar. As Indian cricket fans, we hope that Deepak Hooda gets an extended run, unlike the other all-rounders who were tried but didn't get enough chances to showcase their skills. View the full article

  9. After a phenomenal second Test match against New Zealand at home, where Mayank Agarwal managed to score 150 and 62 in the first and second innings, respectively, the Bengaluru-lad seems to be extremely comfortable opening the batting order with his childhood friend KL Rahul in South Africa. View this post on Instagram Unphased by the South African pacers, Agarwal made all the right decisions when it came to shot selections, not playing the wide deliveries, and letting the dangerous balls pass him by. Indian cricket fans who watched the first session of the first Test in Gauteng can be absolutely certain that other than the one lucky break that he got thanks to Protea wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock dropping him on an outside edge, Agarwal looked well in control and in for a solid inning for himself. A successful and confident Mayank Agarwal at the opening position also gives a lot of ammunition to Rohit Sharma haters, most of whom also happen to be Virat Kohli fans, to talk trash about the ‘Hitman’. At the moment, the fans are simply going gaga over Agarwal’s patience, intelligence and aggression with which he is approaching certain deliveries in South Africa, while also taking some potshots at Sharma. A couple of years ago, Rohit Sharma was not the number one pick for the Indian cricket team when it came to red-ball cricket. He was known to be extremely impatient and as someone who could only dominate in limited-overs cricket. Rohit Sharma in WTC 2019-2021:- Innings - 17 Runs - 1030 Average - 64.37 • He is the Highest Run Scorer in WTC as an opener! • He is the 2nd Highest Run Scorer for Team India in the WTC! If Sharma, Agarwal and Rahul, all continue to stay consistent, Kohli will once again be haunted by the problem of having too many good options for the opening spot and might end up affecting the performance of at least one of them. 10. From finance to IT, most industries are male-dominated and women working in these sectors are often made to feel they don’t belong. Sexism and biases towards male workers are common towards women. However, the same also goes for men who are working in female-dominated workplaces. © iStock Health, teaching and education, and fashion and personal care are some of the work sectors which see more women than men. And the few men opting for these careers experience the same gender bias, sexism and other problems as women in a male-dominated profession. © iStock A man who chose a career that mostly has women shared his experience on Reddit and asked other men like him for their advice and experience. He wrote, “I have been studying in a career that is mostly made up of women, making men a minority. Classrooms tend to be about 25 people, but a maximum of 3-5 are male (including me)...I would appreciate it if you guys share your experience and your advice as well.” © iStock Here are some of the things men noticed while working in female-dominated workplaces: 1. Sexism & Objectification "Male bashing and objectification is the rule. Be prepared to be the representative for your gender." 2. Stay Away From The Drama"I used to work in a more male-dominated workplace..but now my workplace is mostly female. Aka just me and another dude vs like 20 other females. And geez... one thing I learned...stay the f... away from all the dramas lol. There's no middle ground. Just stay away altogether. It's only been 6 months but heck." 3. The Attention Isn’t That Bad"I worked at a Wendy's for about a year that was 60/40 or 65/35, so while not dominated, that store was made up of a majority of women. I honestly had a lot of fun, but if I'm being honest I got a lot of attention from them. I was 25, and they were all mostly 18-20 or 35+." © iStock 4. Expectations To Do The Hard Work "Be prepared to do extra stuff. It's just assumed. Water jug needs changing? You. Furniture needs moving? You. You doing the men's work may be assumed, but don't expect anyone to do traditionally female tasks in return, or you'll catch all sorts of hell." 5. Some Women Can Be Crude"Crudeness is the biggest thing. Women can get away with sexual harassment a lot more too. It’s getting better but still not equal to how they treat men." © iStock Some men also feel left out in a female-dominated work and experience sexism and bias just like women do. The difference is we don’t always hear their stories, unless it’s a Reddit thread. View the full article
  11. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Australian opener David Warner proved the same in the just-concluded T20 World Cup. Not only did he play a key role in Australia’s maiden T20 World cup triumph, but also silenced his critics who wrote him off by bagging the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award for scoring most runs in this year’s multi-nation event. View this post on Instagram The 35-year-old opener came into the tournament on the back of arguably his worst IPL season. He was stripped off his captaincy duties in the first-half of the IPL 2021, dropped on the bench after just two poor outings in the second half and wasn’t even allowed to travel with the team to the stadium. While the whole world was sceptical about Warner’s form and raised questions about his place in the side based on his recent form, the Australian skipper Aaron Finch was confident about his opening partner’s ability right from the onset and even told their coach Justin Langer not to worry about the southpaw. With the B-String of the Indian cricket team winning the ODI series and picking a win in the first of three T20Is against Sri Lanka, news of opening batsman, Prithvi Shaw, and middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav flying to England to join the A-String have been making reports. The A-String, which will be led by Virat Kohli during the upcoming five-match Test series against England on foreign soil, has seen a few injuries take place before and during the practice match they were involved in against the County Select XI in Durham earlier this month. View this post on Instagram First, it was the top-order batter Shubman Gill who was ruled out for the entire series with shin splints and sent back home, then Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan were also declared injured. Additionally, skipper Kohli also missed out of the practice match with a stiff back and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane had hamstring complaints. Under such circumstances, the Board on Control for Cricket in India decided to shuffle around a couple of names - Shaw and Kumar. Although it is uncertain when the two cricketers will go to England, the fact that they will be joining the Kohli squad has been confirmed. Why Was Suryakumar Yadav Picked For England Tour? View this post on Instagram Suryakumar has looked in form during his stint with the B-String, under the captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan during the limited-overs cricket series against Sri Lanka and the possibility of getting a Test call based on his recent white-ball performance seems like the top-tier reason at the moment. However, Yadav’s 2019-2020 performance during the Ranji Trophy season adds a lot of merit to his name when it comes to red-ball cricket. Batting for the Mumbai squad, SKY has collated 508 runs in just 10 innings averaging 56.44. He has also massed two centuries, and two half-tons. Why Was Prithvi Shaw Picked For England Tour? View this post on Instagram One of the most talked-about batters for the Men in Blue in recent times, Shaw had himself a golden duck while debuting for the Indian cricket team in the T20I format on Sunday. However, his red-ball numbers tell a different story, even though the 21-year old has only played five Tests for the senior team. As a List A cricketer ever since India’s incredible Test series of Australia earlier this year, he has scored 1240 runs in 20 innings and his average reads a phenomenal 72.94 on the board. With a strike rate of 142.85, he also scored four 100’s and four 50’s as well. 17. With only a couple of days left for the Boxing Day Test to take place between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from December 26, 2020, one of the biggest questions for skipper Ajinkya Rahane to answer is ‘who will open the Indian batting order?’ Former Indian cricketer and analyst Sanjay Manjrekar went to Twitter to add a whole new angle to this debate when he recommended red-ball expert Cheteshwar Pujara’s name to bat at the first or second spot. I have batted no 3 overseas. You are invariably going in early, facing bowlers with their tails up from ball no 1. Anyone for Pujara opening? To make his life easier? + better chance of not losing a quick wkt & opposition being on top early. Tell me your top 4 next Test — Sanjay Manjrekar (@sanjaymanjrekar) December 23, 2020 “I have batted no 3 overseas. You are invariably going in early, facing bowlers with their tails up from ball no 1. Anyone for Pujara opening? To make his life easier? + better chance of not losing a quick wkt & opposition being on top early. Tell me your top 4 next Test,” Manjrekar tweeted while opening the floor to discussion. After the first Test debacle at the Adelaide Oval, it has been speculated that Prithvi Shaw will not only lose his spot as the opener but will also be dropped from the Playing XI for the remainder of the series. Shubman Gill's name made waves as a suitable replacement. View this post on Instagram On the other hand, with the unavailability of Virat Kohli for the rest of the series due to a paternity leave, KL Rahul might also make it to the roster and eventually open the lineup with childhood buddy Mayank Agarwal. Cheteshwar Pujara has been a veteran and a fixed third-spot batsman in the Indian order in the longest format of the game for years. However, considering India’s woes at the top order, of losing the first couple of wickets very quickly into the innings, the idea of having the veteran play gets weightage. View this post on Instagram Known as ‘The Wall 2.0’ Pujara is famous for his patience and the ability to stick to the crease for long sessions. Until the ball gets older, Pujara may very well be India’s biggest hopes of not bleeding wicket after wicket in the initial overs of the game, followed by an innings full of panic. Unlike some of the previous infamous incidents, many of his followers agreed with his idea of promoting Pujara at opening spot: It's an interesting idea. Perhaps Mayank, Pujara, Gill, Rahul. — Mohamed Zeeshan (@ZeeMohamed_) December 23, 2020if rohit can open then why not pujara ?? — Karun Nair's Dumbo baby elephant (@CricEinstein) December 23, 2020An interesting thought, sending him to open. That is precisely what 1990s captains did. Old thought. Not a good one. As only one Test has gone by. And India need experience in middle order in Kohli absence. This is Test & not a T20 jo kisi ko bhi daal diya middle order mein. — Indrajit.Ghose (@IndrajitGhose6) December 23, 2020Aah I'm afraid to change his position could be fine for subcontinent conditions but fear if Ind lose him early than who'll be at No 3 sometimes u gotta save ur best batsman, it would be better if the opening batsman just get through the new ball like they did last time at MCG. — Sanskar Gemawat (@gemawat_sanskar) December 23, 2020That is the club cricket suggestion. 18. Ever since showcasing his talent during the 2018 U-19 World Cup, Shubman Gill has gone from strength to strength to emerge as one of the finest young talents in the country. The right-hander has already impressed pundits and fans on the back of his mesmerising performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL). And, his brief stint with Team India is also picking pace. The right-handed batsman was one of the key performers for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the recently-concluded IPL season. Batting at the top, Gill scored 440 runs, including three fifties, in 14 matches. It was his consistency with the willow that earned him a spot in India's Test squad for the tour of Australia. © Twitter/@BCCI The Indian team doesn't really have a shortage of openers, despite the absence of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma. The likes of KL Rahul, Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal and, now, Gill are all capable enough to carry the responsibility of opening the innings. In recent times, India have favoured Shaw to open alongside Mayank. But, the young Mumbai batsman seems a bit rusty at the moment. If his batting exploits weren't enough, Gill's case to open the innings has been further bolstered by the dismal performances of Shaw. The right-hander had a terrible outing in IPL 2020 before mediocre performances in the practice games. He was dismissed for a duck in the first practice game, his fourth in his last seven Test innings. In the warm-up tie against Australia A, Shaw failed to convert his start into a big score as he got dismissed for 40 in the first innings. His impatience and inability to avoid risky and aerial shots further spelt his doom in the second innings as the Indian opener was sent back to the pavilion with just 3 runs against his name.
