Official announcement of venue change for Pak vs WI ODI series likely later today -
Indian fans were all for it when the ICC gave the Rawalpindi pitch a below-average rating and handed the venue a demerit point as Pakistan's first Test match as host to Australia ended in a dull draw. Even the second Test between the two sides was played on a similar surface where the bowlers got little help from the pitch and if not for a Pakistan collapse in the first innings it would have been a repeat of the series opener. When Pakistan bowlers were toiling hard in search of wickets in Karachi in the 2nd Test, India were hosting Sri Lanka for their third day-night Test in Bengaluru. Out of all the 16 wickets to fall, nine were picked up by spinners and the track assisted spinners from the word go. The ICC, on Sunday (March 20) rated the M Chinnaswamy pitch as below average and even handed a demerit point to the venue. Match referee and former India pacer Javagal Srinath, in his report to the ICC, said that even though the surface improved for batting as the game went on, to see spinners coming into play so early in a Test match makes it an uneven contest between bat and ball. ICC has given its verdict on the Bengaluru pitch from the recently concluded #WTC23 clash between India and Sri Lanka https://t.co/7oqiMNhpqD — ICC (@ICC) March 20, 2022 “The pitch offered a lot of turn on the first day itself and though it improved with every session, in my view, it was not an even contest between bat and ball,” Srinath said. Unhappy with the ICC's rating system, Indian cricket fans hit back at the governing body for discouraging curators from making result-oriented pitches and keeping mum seeing flat decks in Antigua and Karachi where dead wickets led to two dull draw games. There is no way a batsman like babar can score 196 on a day 5 pitch. — ram dewani (@ramdewani1) March 20, 2022 Shameful by ICC Karanchi pitch was worst but no action against Pakistan — Rebel (@AhmedShahBaba0) March 20, 2022 Pitches have been becoming the talking point lately as home teams tend to prepare pitches to their liking which is fair but not getting a result is what is hampering Test cricket the most. With T20 cricket around, fans barely take time out to watch Test cricket and to see them spend five days without getting a result in today's day and age is what is turning them away from the longest format of the game.
