  2. Photo: File ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar observed on Monday that the Supreme Court is putting an end to a specific category of government advertisements. The court observed that advertisements with political pictures will be banned. Hearing the suo motu notice of political advertisements on taxpayers? expense, the chief justice inquired how many advertisements did the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government print and broadcast with pictures of the KP chief minister and party chief Imran Khan. The KP information secretary informed the court that there is no government policy regarding the printing of the chief minister or party chief?s pictures. CJP takes suo motu notice of provincial governments' publicity campaigns Chief Justice Saqib Nisar summons report on advertising campaigns from Sindh, Punjab and KP Responding to the court?s query, the information secretary revealed that the provincial government spent a little over Rs204 million on advertisements in the last three months. He added that the provincial government, since coming into power, has spend Rs1.63 billion on advertisements. The court then summoned the provincial government?s one year record of advertisements to ascertain if pictures of political leaders were published on government ads. Chief Justice Nisar remarked that the funds spent on these advertisements are the public?s money. On Feb 28, the chief justice had taken suo motu notice of the ongoing publicity campaigns by the provinces of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Photo: Geo News screen grab KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said he was uncomfortable with the use of contempt of court and suo motu especially when it comes to disqualification of politicians. He was referring to the disqualification of PML-N?s Nehal Hashmi announced Thursday. The PPP chairperson would be speaking on Geo News show Capital Talk that will be aired Thursday evening. While speaking about Hashmi?s disqualification announced by the Supreme Court, Bilawal said he respected the court?s decision but in such cases standards should be same across the board. Bilawal said. When asked if he was equating former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Bilawal replied in the affirmative. Bilawal also refuted the reports of MNA Faryal Talpur contesting senate elections, saying it was a perfect example of fake news.
  4. LAHORE: Pakistan People's Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday said that Karachi's citizens will not give any importance to to 'puppet politicians.' "Karachi's political situation is odd," he said, adding ?a strange game is being played with the people of Karachi.? "We are struggling to give Karachi a sense of ownership and we know Karachi's citizens won't pay heed to puppet politicians," said Bilawal while speaking to media after attending the death anniversary of former PPP Secretary General Jahangir Badar. Like all the previous puppets in Karachi, these puppets also failed, he remarked. He also shared that if PPP comes into power then it will ?bring progress in Karachi along with a clean leadership." On political rival Nawaz Sharif, he said that ?Nawaz can't be saved now". Earlier in the day, Bilawal Bhutto said in a tweet on Sunday that the recent political developments in Karachi are a farce, adding that the city deserves better. He was referring to developments this week between the Pakistan Sarzameen Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan which announced a political alliance, then proceeded to hurl serious allegations against each other, including that the two were brought to the table by the 'establishment'.

Nawaz leader Khawaja Saad Rafique in his reaction to the Supreme Court`s decision to disqualify Nawaz Sharif tweeted that articles 62 and 63 should not be applicable only to the country's politicians. In another tweet, he took a jibe at Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stating that Imran Khan was too quick to rejoice the SC's decision and he will soon regret his 'mistake.' The former railway minister further claimed to have 'built Pakistan that our [PML-N] elders laid their lives for,' adding that just like the elders suffered at the hands of the British, they [PML-N] suffer at the hands of dictators. In a press conference with PML-N leaders on Friday, Rafique had claimed that Sharif was not disqualified on the basis of Panama Papers and added that it was not the first time that PML-N was made to bear the brunt of 'such tactics.' "Imran Khan, you are nothing more than a pawn," he said.
