  1. As bowlers toiled all day, both Babar Azam and Fawad Alam were seen putting on 193 runs for unbroken fourth wicket
  2. Bar is making admission in college practically mandatory by threatening non-eligibility for licence, writes Nida Usman Chaudhary
  3. After spending three days in hard quarantine in India, being in a 10-hour flight to South Africa and undergoing yet another day of hard quarantining in their report, the Men in Blue spent a day getting used to the raised elevation level of Johannesburg, shook off the jet lag and do some sort of physical activity to get rid of the fatigue. How did #TeamIndia recharge their batteries ahead of their first training session in Jo'Burg? On your marks, get set & Footvolley! #SAvIND pic.twitter.com/dIyn8y1wtz — BCCI (@BCCI) December 18, 2021 Now, unless you are living under a rock, you would have to know that Ravichandran Ashwin remains one of the most competitive cricketers to be playing the game for the Indian squad. He is well known to show aggression on the field, challenge himself to do better as an athlete, become more versatile and simply commit to whatever it takes to win a match. What you might not know is that the former captain of the Indian cricket team and the current head coach, Rahul Dravid continues to match Ashwin’s level of competitiveness even at the age of 48 and went toe-to-toe with the Chennai-born superstar in arguing over certain technicalities of a casual game of footvolley during Team India’s soft-training day in South Africa. View this post on Instagram In the video shared by the BCCI Twitter handle, Dravid seems to be all charged up and giving cricketers over 10-20 years younger than him a run for their money while kicking a ball over the net in the game of footvolley. However, one of the points earned by Dravid did not sit well with Ashwin ‘Anna’ who immediately started arguing with the cameraperson, his own teammates and the rival team while taking an exception to Dravid’s kick. View this post on Instagram With a smile on his face, Dravid also looked around the area, trying to justify his kick and that the way he won the point was completely legal and there was no way that he was going to settle by not winning that point. First of all, it is rather commendable to see the head coach actively taking part in a team-building activity and it was very evident by the way Virat Kohli was reacting, that everyone was loving Dravid being there. Secondly, the fact that Dravid was arguing for a point that means absolutely nothing, only proves that despite being in a coaching spot for so many years, he continues to be a competitor at heart. The fans also saw the competitiveness in Ashwin and Dravid’s actions clearly and even though it was not a serious competition, it allowed them to appreciate having the two legends of the game on their side. When was the last time you saw an Indian coach equally participating in all the practice sessions with players? 4. Indian captain for Test cricket, Virat Kohli and could be seen stress free and in the middle of his squad enjoying a day of not-so-intensive workout after landing in South Africa and acclimatising to the surroundings. In a video recently shared by the official Twitter account of the BCCI, the squad can be seen playing footvolley, going for a run and conducting a stretching session in the resort where they will be spending the next month and a half while participating in three Tests and as many ODIs in December and January. How did #TeamIndia recharge their batteries ahead of their first training session in Jo'Burg? On your marks, get set & Footvolley! #SAvIND pic.twitter.com/dIyn8y1wtz — BCCI (@BCCI) December 18, 2021 According to Soham Desai, the strength and conditioning coach for the Men in Blue, the team had three days of hard quarantining back in Mumbai followed by a 10-hour flight to the land of the Proteas and another hard-quarantine day in South Africa. Desai suggested that it wasn’t feasible to start rigorous training from the first day as everyone was also feeling fatigued and needed some time before proper workouts sessions could be held. The difference in elevation levels between South Africa and India is also significant. According to the coach, while India was at sea level, the place where they will be residing is 1400 meters above sea level. pic.twitter.com/DEM8QMRCBO — Aditya Saha (@Adityakrsaha) December 18, 2021 In the rather wholesome video, the boys could be seen laughing, sharing hugs and competing with each other. However, according to the fans, the greatest scenes took place between Virat Kohli and his head coach Rahul Dravid. Despite the two being in different teams during a session of footvolley, the two were seen sharing a genuine bonding that goes a long way behind the success of a team, especially in games like cricket that is heavily based on the relationship between important decision-makers and role players. pic.twitter.com/XrX3KW03su — Eminent Socialist (@wnnabesocial) December 18, 2021 Fans were extremely happy after seeing Virat Kohli finally having a good time, especially after the fiery press conference that he had given just a day before leaving for South Africa which could possibly lead him into a lot of trouble with the BCCI and its president, Sourav Ganguly. 6. The matter had been a subject of controversy on Bangladeshi social media, where netizens objected to the practice
  7. Arguably one of the most important and rather worrisome problems that the Indian cricket team needs to face and get over is whether or not Hardik Pandya will be available as a bowler during the T20 World Cup 2021 match against New Zealand. In the pre-match press conference, skipper Virat Kohli had expressed the need for every single team in this edition of the World Cup to have a sixth bowling option, just to be able to deliver a couple of good overs. "Game situation dictates when to use your sixth bowling option. In our last match, if they (Pakistan) batted first, I could also have bowled one or two overs. But in the second innings when we needed wickets, we just had to bowl our primary bowlers. It's not that a team with six-seven bowling options doesn’t lose," the Indian captain had said. On the same day, videos began to appear on social media in which Pandya could be seen putting in some minutes in the nets trying to get back in his groove with the ball after not being able to do so for the entire 2021 season of the Indian Premier League. Hardik Pandya bowling in nets ahead of #IND vs #NZ clash.. Retweet appreciated pic.twitter.com/FUsI48fArb — Tanish CricShot (@tanish_18VK) October 30, 2021 Former Indian cricketer and fast-bowler, Ajit Agarkar has now expressed concerns about Kohli’s idea of making Pandya bowl a few overs against the great Black Cap hitters, especially because he has had just a couple of days to practice in the nets before bowling at a stage as big as the World Cup. “Yes, we did see Hardik in the nets. But he hasn't bowled in the last couple of months. And as a bowler, I know how difficult it is to come and bowl during a match situation. So I feel this shouldn't happen where a bowler isn't fully fit and that costs you the game. And the bowler won't be at fault here. So it will be a risky option expecting the bowler, who has been out for so many months, to perform after only two days of practice. That will surely not be my sixth bowling option hence India are likely to play with just five bowlers,” he said speaking to ESPNCricinfo. "Maybe if Kohli bowls one or two overs in between then that would be the best possible solution for India as of now. There is a question mark now how much Hardik can deliver as a bowler," he added. 8. Mahendra Singh Dhoni agreed to become the mentor for the Indian cricket team, not more than a couple of months ago and the former skipper seems to know exactly what and how does he need to train the young guns of the squad ahead of the T20 World Cup 2021. With just two days left for the Virat Kohli-led side to play their first official match of the tournament against Pakistan, a video of ‘mentor’ Dhoni imparting invaluable wicket-keeping knowledge to his prodigy, Rishabh Pant, had gone viral on social media. Mentor MS Dhoni & Rishabh Pant #T20WorldCup #MSDhoni #INDvAUS pic.twitter.com/zlifcdDP4j — Shoronjeet Banerjee (@shoronjeet02) October 20, 2021 Fans from all corners of the country were simply overjoyed to watch their favourite wicket-keeper of all time being finally back in a Team India jersey, albeit as a mentor of the supporting staff. The sight of a young and energetic Pant getting to embrace the years and years of unorthodox knowledge that a keeper as unique as Dhoni gathered over the course of decades of experience had their supporters raving online. (@kwilliamson22_) October 20, 2021 He is serious about his new postthat's why we love him — Roshini (@Roshniraman07) October 20, 2021 According to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, the plans of having Dhoni onboard as the mentor for the Indian side wasn’t even a plan until the second leg of the Indian Premier League began in the United Arab Emirates earlier this year. The unofficial position of being a mentor to the team was specifically made for ‘Thala’ simply because of the kind of winning experience that he possesses when it comes to World Cups and other ICC tournaments. View this post on Instagram “He was okay with my decision and agreed to be a Team Mentor of Team India for the T20 World Cup only. I am glad that MS (Dhoni) has accepted the BCCI’s offer and he is keen to contribute to the national team once again. MS will work closely with Ravi Shastri as well as other support staff to provide support and direction to Team India,” Shah had said. It was also revealed by the Indian cricket board official that ‘Captain Cool’ had agreed to fulfill this duty while taking absolutely no special salary from the organisation and that he made his services available to the squad for free. View this post on Instagram At 40 years of age, Dhoni also won his fourth IPL title as the CSK skipper mere days before starting his campaign with the Indian squad. View the full article
