  6. Established in 2000 as a brainchild of former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Raj Singh Dungarpur, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru was aimed at nurturing and grooming young talent to continue a healthy supply to the Indian team. But, the famed academy has had its ups and downs over the years. Under the reign of N Srinivasan as president, the NCA almost became a "ghost town" in 2013. There was a drastic reduction in staff and budget which saw the axing of video analyst and changing the employment mode of coaches and physiotherapists from being permanent to retainership. But, the decline of NCA hit an all-time low when the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) took over the BCCI for three years. Despite promises of development, the NCA was completely neglected as the BCCI was busy following the instructions of the CoA. Once the hallowed ground for budding cricketers to hone their skills, the NCA had sadly become a mere rehabilitation facility sought by players looking to regain fitness. But, the forgotten academy has found a new ray of hope in Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. © Twitter Owing to his success with India A and India U-19 sides, Dravid, earlier this year, was bestowed with the responsibility of breathing new life into the NCA as its new chief. More recently, the appointment of Ganguly as the new BCCI president appears to have sparked a positive change in the Indian set-up which also includes revamping the famed NCA. The veteran Indian cricketers, who once carried the baton for Team India on the field, have once again joined hands to take the NCA back to its lost glory. The duo has charted out a plan upon their intense discussion in Bangalore on 30th October. A detailed project, which is likely to cost more than Rs 100 crore, was discussed amongst BCCI top brass and the NCA office-bearers including Ganguly and Dravid. Inspired from Cricket Australia's High Performance Centre in Brisbane, the proposed idea is to transform the NCA into a state-of-the-art Centre for Excellence. The new NCA facility is expected to be built near Bangalore, a stone's throw away from the Kempegowda International Airport in Devanahalli to be precise. © Twitter Making full use of the new land, which is believed to be on a 99-year lease, the new NCA facility will accommodate three grounds, indoor nets, administrative buildings and the residential complex. The new model will also allow the support staff of the national team to work closely with the National Cricket Centre, sports science and sports medicine unit, and, state associations to aid the development of the contracted players. There will also be separate programmes for the A team, U-19 and U-23 sides. And, much-needed residential programmes designed for the talented and rookies alike. “There are also plans to assist each player to realise their potential. Players will begin at the bronze level and earn promotion to silver and gold on the basis of their performances,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by The Telegraph. “The facilities at the NCA like the Australian High Performance Centre will include gym, recovery pool, 40m cricket training nets with analytics technology and access to sports science. The NCA will include sports doctors, physiotherapists, strength & conditioners, dietitians, psychologists and biomechanists...It will look after the players' mental and physical preparation and aim to reduce injuries," the source added. © Twitter "If a batsman has a problem with technique or a bowler with his action, the NCA will have all facilities to address it. Bowlers with suspect action can also get corrected here. The presence of Dravid will only make things easier. There could also be some more high profile appointments as consultants. Sourav is hell bent on using Dravid in the best possible way,” the source concluded. While the work related to the new NCA facility is scheduled to begin from January next year, the appointments of Ganguly - as BCCI president - and Dravid - as the NCA chief - are already promising favourable results - one that are undeniably needed to take Indian cricket to new heights. 7. Jahangir Tareen speaks at a press conference in Lahore on Thursday. ? Geo News screengrab LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member Jahangir Tareen Thursday said that Nawaz-league's corruption in Multan Metro Bus project was exposed after a letter sent to Pakistan by the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC). Holding a press conference here, Tareen said the CSRC wrote a letter to Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), stating that 16 companies were paid over Rs2 billion. He said the CSRC interviewed Faisal Subhan ? CEO of Capital Engineering which was probed for corruption allegations in the Multan Metro Bus project ? and sent a complete copy of it. The PTI leader claimed that Subhan, in his interview, stated that his company has four share-holders and the actual owner is Shehbaz Sharif. Tareen once again alleged that Subhan is a "frontman" of Sharif brothers and they have a role in Subhan going off the radar. He further said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was conducting raids for the arrest of Nadeem Zia, CEO of housing society in Lahore. Tareen alleged that now Zia has also been sent into hiding, or abroad.
  8. Video: Geo News HUB: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Saturday claimed that the ruling PML-N had hijacked the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. "Former president Asif Ali Zardari signed the CPEC project in the presence of the Chinese president in the President House in 2013," Bilawal said while addressing a party power show in Hub. Criticising the ruling party, he said the PML-N is attempting to take undue credit for the CPEC project. Photo: Geo News ?This government did not treat Balochistan any better than a colony,? he said. Bilawal alleged that CPEC's western project was ignored to [negatively] affect Balochistan. ?Your people were also abducted just as ours,? he said. ?Justice was not served to you just like it was not served to us.? In an apparent reference to former president Pervez Musharraf, he accused the "dictator of fuelling a fire of hatred? in the province. He claimed that when his party?s formed a government in the center, it managed to achieve what had not been done in the province during the past 70 years. ?They ask us what our government accomplished,? he said. ?We initiated the programme of Aghaz Haqooq-e-Balochistan, we gave autonomy to provinces through the 18th amendment, and in 2013, Balochistan was the only province to have a surplus budget.? He further said that the PPP-led government provided resources to Balochistan from the national exchequer and the Thar Coal project, introduced by his party, is providing the most benefit to locals. ?We will fight democratically against exploitative forces,? Bilawal said. Commuters were earlier issued guidelines that the RCD Highway will remain closed from Hub River Bridge to Gatron Morr till 8pm today. On January 17, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had said there is a clash between two 'ladlay' [favourites] in the country while addressing a rally in Badin. Bilawal lashes out at Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan in Badin rally 'One favourite says he owns assets but he is told that he doesn't while other favourite says he doesn't own assets but court says he does' "One favourite says that he owns assets but he is told that he owns none while the other favourite says he does not own assets but the court says that he does," he said. "This is a clash between the two favourites." Referring to the brutal rape and murder of a seven-year-old child in Kasur, the PPP chairperson said it was not the first such incident. "Such incidents are regular, and my heart bleeds when I see such incidents occurring in the country." He also denounced the murder of two protestors at the hands of the police during demonstrations following the Kasur incident. "Why did the Punjab police take aim at unarmed citizens?" he said. "The nation needs to be told what Sharif is taking revenge for, from the citizens of Punjab." Lashing out at the Sharif brothers, Bilawal said that 'the nation is wise' and it knows the 'true faces' of the two brothers. "You are lamenting your disqualification, but why are you asking why you were disqualified from the public, why don't you ask your younger brother," he said in reference to Nawaz Sharif's disqualification from holding public office in the July 28, 2017 verdict of the Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case. Bilawal further said that Nawaz has completed his political age, adding that Nawaz was unable to handle both Balochistan and Punjab.
  9. Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif remarked that political opponent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf caused a 22-month delay in the Orange Line Metro Train project. Photo: file1 LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif remarked that political opponent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf caused a 22-month delay in the Orange Line Metro Train project. Sharif was speaking to the media during a visit to the construction site of Orange Line Metro Train project early Sunday morning. He also remarked that the work on the project should be expedited and labourers must work around the clock. Punjab CM arrived at the construction site in a coaster without any protocol and visited different sites for the project in his 2-hour long visit. He also reviewed the civil, mechanical and electrical aspects of the project, alongside visiting the underground parts of the project. On October 8, last year, Shehbaz Sharif had unveiled the mega-transport scheme, Orange Line Metro Project, in Punjab?s capital. CM Punjab unveils Orange Line Metro Train project Before the event, Shehbaz Sharif sent messages on social media lauding the project While addressing the event, he remarked that people levelling false allegations are wasting the time of nation. When metro bus project was under construction, our opponents called it 'jangla bus' and claimed that money has been embezzled. Interestingly, our opponents then announced metro bus project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. "However, there is no sign of metro bus in Peshawar," he claimed. "It was alleged that corruption worth Rs70 billion occurred in metro bus project. However, our opponents could not even prove Rs35 billion corruption," remarked Shehbaz. "If the corruption is proven then the nation can hold me accountable."
