  1. Rishabh Pant’s injury has become a big point of discussion in the latter half of the Border Gavaskar Trophy especially after he played the best red-ball innings of his international career in the second innings of the Sydney Test. Taking a blistering Mitchell Starc delivery to an unprotected left elbow while batting in the first innings of the previous Test, Pant was in visible pain and ended up throwing his wicket because of not being able to focus properly. Rishabh Pant has been taken for scans after having been hit on the elbow while batting. Wriddhiman Saha will keep the wickets for India.#AUSvIND pic.twitter.com/Ije2erkuzU — ICC (@ICC) January 9, 2021 Rushed to the hospital for scans and medical assistance shortly after, Pant had to sit out during Australia’s second batting innings and was replaced by Wriddhiman Saha behind the stumps. Under any other situation, Pant might not have been given the permission to be on the field considering the severity of his injury however, due to the evident loss of players and lack of good enough talent to even build up a decent Playing XI, the 23-year-old continues to play. Pictures and videos from Day 1 of the Gabba Test shows a loud and vocal Rishabh Pant keeping the wickets and keeping the morale of the rest of his teammates high. He is having fun, chatting with the Australian batsmen and is doing a good enough job gloving the ball so far. What nobody seems to notice is exactly how heavily padded up his left arm is. #AUSvIND pic.twitter.com/Y6NY8kWGHj — cricket.com.au (@cricketcomau) January 15, 2021 Underneath his white uniform, Pant’s elbow is guarded tightly which can restrict the movement of the arm extensively, while making the wicket-keeper’s job so much more difficult. But the man doesn’t seem to be complaining. Even then, there have been certain fans on the opposite side of the pitch who continue to call him out for being a cheat and for faking injuries to get out of trouble. Weird to see him out there with the gloves. Guess it's probably harder to fake an injury before you bat — Jase (@JRumbol4) January 15, 2021But feigning injury so you can sub in a better keeper and then going out to bat 5 is well within the spirit of the game. — Maxwell Charles (@Max_well5810) January 11, 2021Ikr indians r clearly cheating and their fans are backing them — maxtreemax (@maxtreemaxtree) January 11, 2021 View the full article
  2. The man of the hour, Ravindra Jadeja could do no wrong on Day 2 of the third Test between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground during the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Trophy. After going wicketless on the opening day of the penultimate Test, Jadeja switched gears on Friday and went on a wicket-scalping spree with the ball. Sir jadeja pic.twitter.com/yOCgv1qhnk — @tul (@Atulecr) January 8, 2021 Being in the highlights for removing the most important names of the Australian batting lineup from the crease, Jadeja went to work by dismissing Marnus Labuschagne on a brilliant catch of skipper Ajinkya Rahane on third slip. While we wait for the rain to stop, here's another look at Ajinkya Rahane's sharp catch at slip as Jadeja dismissed Labuschagne for 91 🏻#AUSvINDpic.twitter.com/DgprpvKy8i — Delhi Capitals (@DelhiCapitals) January 8, 2021 In the 77th over of the first innings, Jadeja got Matthew Wade’s wicket for cheap after Jasprit Bumrah secured the catch. After facing 12 deliveries, Australian pacer Pat Cummins could not hold his own against Jadeja who bowled him out for a duck in the 95th over. However, Jadeja’s greatest highlight of the day came in the department he is most sought after for, his dominance as a fielder, of course. Known to be one of the most impactful, accurate fielders in the game right now, Jadeja hit bullseye on a direct hit to dismiss the biggest Australian threat for the Men in Blue in Steve Smith. Going for unorthodox shots (yes, even for him) and having hilarious no-calls for his partner Josh Hazlewood. But the fourth delivery of the 106th over made Smith push for a double as the ball rushed into Jadeja’s hand and before he knew it, the bails were ripped out of their place. While the umpire went upstairs for a review, Smith knew that his time on the field was done and started walking back to the locker room. During the match, Harsha Bhogle described Jadeja as a three-dimensional player and could not have been more accurate in his description of the Indian cricketer. @bhogleharsha used the phrase 3 Dimensional cricketer during commentary stint and for the first time the phrase was used very aptly and for the most deserved - Ravindra Jadeja. 5. Touted as the 'Fab Four', the likes of Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Joe Root have proved to be in a class of their own, dominating the charts and making other batsmen look mediocre. But, in recent years, the race that eventually began with four batsmen has narrowed down to two players with both Kohli and Smith elevating their game a notch further. While Williamson and Root continue to do what they do best, Kohli and Smith seem to have broken away from the 'Fab Four' pack. Just like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in football, the world of cricket is currently savouring the rivalry between Kohli and Smith who continue to outperform each other on the field. © Reuters Despite fighting it out to assert domination as the best batsman in modern-day cricket, Kohli and Smith, over the years, also share mutual respect and admiration for each other. The duo have often been seen lauding each other for their unmatched skills during media interactions. Most notably, Kohli was seen asking the crowd to stop jeering at Smith during the 2019 World Cup clash between India and Australia. In a similar show of respect, Australian batsman had nothing but praise for the Indian skipper over his decision to opt for paternity leave. Losing the 1st Test, India now face an uphill task as captain Kohli is set to miss the remaining three matches in a bid to reunite with wife Anushka as the couple get ready to welcome their first child. © Twitter/@IPL While many had questioned Kohli's decision that has put his team in jeopardy, Smith lauded the Delhi batsman for his commitment to family. "I'm sure there would have been a lot of pressure for him to stay but to stand up and want to go home for the birth of his first child, it's a credit for him. It's a milestone that he certainly wouldn't want to miss," Smith said in a virtual press conference before the 2nd Test. View this post on Instagram The Australian cricketer also passed on good wishes to Kohli's wife Anushka and soon-to-be-born baby. "I just fist-pumped him at the end (of 1st Test) and said 'Mate safe travels, hope everything goes well with the baby, and pass on my best to your wife'," Smith revealed. The 31-year-old was also impressed by Kohli's performance in the first innings at Adelaide where the Indian captain scored a brilliant 74. "Obviously, it's a big loss for India, not having him for the rest of the series. We just have to look at the way he played in the first innings. That was a pretty class display against some good bowling on a wicket that was doing a bit," he added. After suffering an eight-wicket loss, the Indian cricket team will be eager to bounce back in the four-match series with an improved performance in the 2nd Test which is slated to begin from 26th December at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). 8. Aditya Narayan is no longer the chota baccha who sang a song warning older folks not to mess with him in Masoom or the little kid asking people to help him choose between Cadbury and Amul in Rangeela. Growing up, he tried his hands at acting and singing, while he graduated with a diploma in English contemporary music from London. © Instagram Aditya Narayan Back in India, Aditya made his comeback on screen as the host of popular music talent show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge in 2007. Two years later, Aditya bagged his first film as a lead actor, Shaapit, and although the film tanked, Aditya continued to create a name for himself as an entertaining host. All along, Aditya kept juggling hats and also tried his hands at direction as an AD to Sanjay Leela Bhansali, launched his own band, released multiple Hindi single(s), as well as participated in reality shows too. © Instagram Aditya Narayan Yet despite having his hands full, Aditya recently made headlines when it was reported that he was on the verge of going “bankrupt” due to lack of work amid the pandemic, with a bank balance of only Rs 18,000. And although he went on record to refute the claim, people have been wondering how much the guy is worth in real life. Aditya Narayan’s Net Worth © Instagram Aditya Narayan As per reports, Aditya Narayan is worth around Rs 7.10 crore, which is a cumulative projection of his income through emceeing, playback singing, guest appearances, music videos and live concerts. Aditya Narayan’s Main Source Of IncomeGiven his massive popularity as a TV show emcee, a major source of Aditya’s income comes from hosting reality talent shows such as Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Indian Idol and Rising Star 3. As per reports, it is suggested that Aditya apparently charges at least Rs 2.5 lakh per episode as a host. © Instagram Aditya Narayan Not just that, another report has claimed that Aditya had once quoted a whopping amount of Rs 5 lakh for a meet-and-greet when Zoom contacted him to meet a crazy fan of his. The news had truly shocked a ton of people back in the day. Aditya Narayan’s AssetsThe 33-year-old has often shared that he doesn’t believe in a flashy lifestyle and tries to lead a simple life. We already know after the recent bankruptcy claims that Aditya has multiple mutual fund investments, but apart from that he recently also invested in a luxurious 5 BHK flat worth Rs 10.5 crore in Andheri, Mumbai which will serve as the marital home for Aditya and his newly-wedded wife Shweta Agarwal. © Instagram Aditya Narayan Apart from real estate, Aditya reportedly also owns a Mercedes-Benz GL-Class SUV (that was also involved in a road accident in 2018) which starts at around Rs 79 lakh and a bike, although not much is known about its model and make. 10. The ongoing Farmers’ protest has caused quite a stir not only at the Delhi-Haryana border but also on social media. People from all walks of life have an opinion on the matter, regardless of how half-baked or problematic their arguments might be. © TOI However, without getting into the discussion regarding what’s the ‘bigger issue’ here is, let’s talk about how the sense of community and collective well-being is ingrained within the Sikh community, who never leave a stone unturned when it comes to serving humanity, even amidst personal turmoil. © Facebook Mika Singh Just an hour ago, singer Mika Singh took to his social media accounts to share how the protestors provided the on-duty police with Langar. Many NGOs have been working to provide the protesting farmers with food supplies, and with their help even the police officers got a taste of farmers’ unbridled kindness in the form of steaming plates of delicious Langar amid the winter chill. © Facebook Mika Singh Sharing pictures of the same, Mika wrote, “Good morning Look at how these beautiful farmers are protesting peacefully. This is also the 1st time that those protesting are providing Langar to the police. That’s called the Punjabi’s. I salute @unitedsikhs @letshelpdivinetouch and @khalsaaid_india @khalsa_aid for meeting the farmers basic needs. I’m sure that the Govt will take serious action and support our farmers. I always stand with our farmers, because of whom we have food to eat.” © Facebook Mika Singh This is yet another reminder that a little kindness and empathy goes a long way, and it wouldn’t be incorrect to say that the farmers and the Sikh community has always shown us what selflessness looks like and maybe all of us can learn a thing or two from them. 12. 2020 wasn’t anything like we expected it to be at the beginning of the year. Ask anybody around you, oh I meant virtually, because physical distancing/ quarantine/ lockdown and what not, but everyone will agree that nobody has a clue where 2020 went. © Pexels It’s almost as if some cruel spell obliterated all the dreams and aspirations we bore in our hearts as we rang in the New Year. And what a year it has been! Those of us who have been lucky (and privileged) to still have a job and shelter and are in a position to put food on our table, legit have no recollection of anything besides their laptop screens and all the targets they just couldn’t seem to meet. © Reddif But now, instead of expecting some good news after eight months of surviving this deadly pandemic, Interpol has come bearing bad news for political leaders and shared that a new threat has surfaced amid the outbreak. In its latest guidelines, the international police organisation has warned law agencies in India and 193 other countries that "Covid-infected letters" might be sent to political figures and individuals. The agency also stated that “attempts at deliberate contamination by spitting and coughing on surfaces and objects has been reported.” Given this update, the agency has advised member nations that security personnel of political figures as well as postal and front-desk workers to be made aware of the risk and precautions to be taken to tackle the threats. © Pexels We don’t know what this means for our leaders, but if things get out of hand, such letters might also end up wrecking further havoc and worsening the situation further. But one thing is for sure, 2020 is looking more and more like a sci-fi movie gone wrong in real life. Or could it be Assassin's Creed playing out in real life. View the full article
  13. We all have our favorite foods or dishes that can help us cheer up anytime. Be it a breakup or a bad day at work, food has the power to tinkle our taste buds and make us feel better instantly. Now, comfort food can help us in various situations but have you ever imagined that your favorite dish can wake you up from deep sleep or a state of unconsciousness? A recent bizarre case from Taiwan has revealed that good food can do bigger things than just uplifting our mood and bettering our health. According to Times Now News, an 18-year-old, who was in a coma for the past 62 long days, woke up after his brother mentioned his favourite food ‘chicken fillet’. © BCCL Imagine someone saying ‘butter chicken’ and you waking up from regular sleep. That’ll be fun too but this guy miraculously woke up from the state of unconsciousness. The teenager from northwestern Taiwan underwent a serious scooter accident and suffered life-threatening injuries and internal bleeding in many organs. Even though doctors were able to stabilize his condition, he went into a deep coma. Chiu was in ICU at Ton Yen General Hospital in Hsinchu County. Also, Hsieh Tsung-Hsin, director of the ICU, said, “The boy had suffered multiple injuries, including laceration of the spleen, right kidney, and liver; bleeding from abdominal cavity fractures.” © Unplash Chiu had to undergo six operations including a craniotomy, laparotomy, right kidney nephrectomy, splenectomy, liver repair and right clavicle and right femur open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). His family was extremely worried and were praying for a miracle and on the 62nd day, nothing short of a miracle happened. Chiu's older brother visited the hospital and jokingly said, "Bro I’m going to eat your favorite chicken fillet." Chiu woke up after he heard the name of his favourite food and his pulse accelerated and he began to regain consciousness. What do you think of this bizarre yet happy moment? 14. If there's an actor we can bank on for the right sort of grooming as well as fashion lessons, it has to be Suniel Shetty. At 59, the actor is out there, making statements with his full-fledged beard and man bun and is also seen wearing some zany outfits, giving young actors a run for their money, with his style. © Viral Bhayani Suniel Shetty's fashion game has also transformed. The man who used to make fashion gaffes back in the days has evolved with his style statements and is seen in some eccentric silhouettes. Amidst Unlock 5, as celebrities are now stepping out, following the pandemic mandates, we spotted Mr Shetty in quite a sophisticated avatar this time, outside Hakim Aalim's salon. We also carefully examined his latest style move and he seems to have hit it right out the park, with his crushed pants. © Viral Bhayani Here's why we say that. © Viral Bhayani Mr Shetty here has chosen to go out wearing a relaxed silhouette, which is classy in its own way. The fact that he has chosen to wear these crushed cargo pants, shows that he is all about experimenting and doesn't shy away from taking a fashion risk. The trend from the 2000s has now become a staple, and many people are swapping their jeans or track pants for this classic style. Suniel too has reignited the trend with these crunched pants, that have the biggest pocket we've seen in 2020, so far. © Viral Bhayani Now, coming to some other interesting elements of this garb, Suniel here is seen wearing a simple black T-shirt, coupled with these crushed pants. Paired with white sneakers, his outfit is a guaranteed head-turning number. Coming to his accessories, we like how his T-shirt and mask are giving an illusion of being a single style statement, whereas it's just the way he has styled it. We also can't ignore his fresh hairstyle and salt and pepper beard, that complements his attire perfectly. © Viral Bhayani This is not the only time when a celebrity has chosen to wear this trend and made it look effortless. We also had Ayushmann Khurrana who once wore cargo pants, in three different colours. The trend has become dominant in menswear and is on the rise, with more celebrities experimenting with this silhouette. All in all, this outfit is working brilliantly for him and we just can't wait to see him in more suave looks like this one. View the full article
  15. We’ve already covered how fast and powerful the iPhone 12 can be when compared to other smartphones. We even covered how great the phone is underwater, thanks to its water resistance rating. However, one feature Apple touted as the new “Ceramic Shield” display, protects it from dings, scratches and screen shattering more than ever. While many assumed it’s just another marketing gimmick, turns out it’s way more than that. The iPhone 12’s durability was tested with multiple drop tests and the results were quite intriguing. © Yotube_EverythingApplePro Both the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro were dropped from different heights i.e. waist and head level. These heights are probably the most likely scenarios where most drops can occur. The glass did not experience any cracks, however one can expect damage to the metal frame on both phones depending on the angle the phones can fall at. It is worth pointing out that even though the outer screen did not experience any damage, drops can cause internal damage to displays, especially OLED screens. No matter how sturdy and durable the iPhone 12 might be, it is not indestructible and it is still recommended to use the phone with a case and a screen protector. Having said that, the drop test proves that the iPhone 12’s Ceramic Shield is not just a marketing gimmick. Having said that, the video does show the Ceramic Shield can crack when dropped from higher levels. In the video, we can see the screen glass and the back panel would break when dropped from a height of 10 feet. View the full article

Amitabh Bachchan may be a crowning glory for the Indian film industry, but there is no denying that his late father and celebrated poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan had been no less than a precious gem for the country and its literati. Perhaps that is why Amitabh Bachchan seemed beyond proud and ecstatic when he shared on his social media accounts that the city of Wroclaw in Poland has decided to name a city square after his late father. © Instagram/Amitabh Bachchan Sharing how the news brought great pride to the Bachchan family and Indians at large, BigB wrote in the post, “The City Council of the City of Wroclaw, Poland has decided to name a Square after my Father ..there could not have been a more apt blessing on Dushhera than this .. a moment of extreme pride for the family , for the Indian community in Wroclaw .. and India ..JAI HIND” View this post on Instagramtrue It is surely a memorable moment for the country because this gesture only proves that the words and works of Harivansh Rai Bachchan did not only leave an indelible mark on Indian poetry lovers, but has created palpable waves globally. However, many of them also asked Amitabh Bachchan to share the connection between the city and his late father, and why the honour is being bestowed upon him after so many years since his passing. Won’t deny it, we want to know as well. View the full article
  17. While the pandemic has been transforming our lives as we know it, it has also lead to certain changes that caught our eye. Amidst all the necessary precautions of wearing a mask and gloves while stepping out, there's one more norm that we have been seeing a few celebrities following and that's the trend of wearing chappals. © Viral Bhayani Bollywood is filled with sneakerheads who have time and again impressed us with their collection. However, following the pandemic, most celebrity wardrobes have gone visibly relaxed and now, we see them wearing comfortable styles, instead of OTT silhouettes. © Viral Bhayani Having said that, Arjun Kapoor, who usually gives us a peek at some of the most interesting sneaker pieces, has now started stepping out in the new norm. From wearing colour changing chappals to recently stepping out in a bold pair by Off-White, the man clearly knows how to make a statement, even with such a seemingly simple style. © Farfetch Recently, when Arjun was papped, the actor appeared to be handling the menace of the pandemic in the right way. Come to think of it, his outfit is simple and tasteful and scores brownie points, majorly because of the bright T-shirt that he has donned. © Farfetch The Marcelo Burlon's, County Of Milan T-shirt is a quirky addition and is designed with an NBA print in a ribbed neck. He paired it with a pair of blue joggers, to finish the look. © Viral Bhayani Coming to the most important element of his garb; his brown chappals, are in a league of their own. The leather sandals have classy aesthetics that blend well with his casual garb. Even though this is a unique and unconventional style for a celebrity, it's a cool pair, if you ask us. Overall, it only elevates the laid-back avatar that he is trying to pull off with this outfit. Since you can't leave your home without wearing a mask, we like the simplistic nature of Arjun's black mask with minimal design on it. Add to that, the apple watch assembles the outfit well. © Viral Bhayani Besides Arjun, several other celebrities including Aditya Roy Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Priyank Sharma etc. were also seen casually strutting in the new norm. Talking about Arjun's look, we have to say that this is a functional outfit with a great pair of chappals, that even we won't shy away from wearing. View the full article
  18. The pandemic this year highlighted the disparity among people even more. While in the beginning, with complete lockdown, a lot of people were mildly inconvenienced after being forced to work from their comfortable homes, the number of people who were left stranded with no jobs, no accommodation, no way to survive was much much higher. © Reuters Now, with everything opening up, people were finally able to go back to work and earn money to survive but then again, are getting criticized for using public transportations as there's no social distancing being followed. A video from yesterday showed the crowded Borivali station in Mumbai where there were people piled on top of another in order to board the train. At first glance, a lot of people just shook their heads and commented about how we'll never get rid of COVID-19 if people behaved like this. Borivali station, Mumbai. Today. pic.twitter.com/QGspNgPPD3 — Sheela Bhatt (@sheela2010) September 24, 2020 But honestly, that statement in itself reeks of privilege. Of course, everyone who has the luxury to work from home with all the comforts available to them would be that preachy. © Reuters But what a lot of people fail to realize is that everyone travelling by the local train doesn't have any other option. I'm pretty sure they would not choose to risk their lives by being stuck to strangers in a public place, but how else are they going to get to work? No wonder the virus loves Bombay and Bombay loves the virus — Radhika Ramaseshan (@Radrama) September 24, 2020 Cabs are expensive as hell for everyday travel and not everyone can afford personal cars to ensure social distancing. It could be helpful if the people in charge could focus on this urgent matter and find a way to follow some kind of social distancing and if the employers would be more relaxed with the in and out timings so employees can at least get on the train when it isn't that crowded. Corona has no space to enter ... — Dinesh Trivedi (@DinTri) September 24, 2020 The problem here is not with the people on the train, it's with the people sitting at home criticizing these people without even considering their predicaments. It's a request to such people to get off their high horse and actually demand a real change from the government if they care that much. It's honestly sad that people have to pick between COVID and starvation. Me too travel from mumbai local train... No choice.... Salary to chahiye... Paapi pet ka sawal h.... — Vidrohi (@Vidrohi_raja) September 24, 2020 It's terrifying. that situation is very ugly. — JOHANNA D’KHAN🇲🇽 (@JuanaYaezcampo1) September 25, 2020 Sure, people trying to survive is the reason. No wonder, corona cases rising in the city https://t.co/FbC2rKVZF2 — Veda Padma (@veda_padma) September 25, 2020 Hm. I see a lot of blame on these people and not on the corporates who are making them do this. https://t.co/7FdhRRdEa8 — Stigette Cha Navra (@Brewkenstein) September 25, 2020 Some of us will never get it. Obviously we have failed. There's no doubt about that. We fucked this up. Imagine having to step out for your daily bread at the risk of your life — Pog!ba goes my heart (@WhiskeyTwilight) September 24, 2020 Please suggest suggestions on how. 19. It was on 15th August, when MS Dhoni took to Instagram and announced that he was retiring from international cricket. It's been six days since the former Indian captain called time on his illustrious career, but the tributes and wishes continue to pour in. After representing India in 538 matches, Dhoni brought an end to year-long speculations and an international cricket career that the entire country is proud of. Dhoni has retired as one of India's greatest cricketers but more significantly, as one of our sport's most symbolic players. © Reuters Whether it was his lightning-quick glovework, finishing capabilities or astute leadership skills, Dhoni was a complete package that Team India and its fans were lucky to have. While his cricketing exploits saw him shattering numerous records, Dhoni's persona and attitude earned him popularity beyond borders. Thus, when the news of his retirement surfaced, fans across the globe thanked him for the memories during his decade-and-a-half long international career. While the mood in the country is a bit off since his retirement, Dhoni walking away in the shadows has also evoked a strong response from Pakistani cricket fans. In a tribute video made by 'Pak Tv', Pakistani cricket fans did not hold back in their praise for Dhoni and how they felt after hearing the news of his retirement. "He is from India but I am really hurt as a Pakistani cricket fan that he has retired. Dhoni is Dhoni, no one can replace him in the Indian team," a fan said in the touching video. "He made a name for himself, a very good cricketer who, obviously, India will miss a lot. India won't find another player like him. No one can replace him. He was a very good batsman and won India a lot of matches. Don't think India can get a better player than him," added another Pakistani fan. With over 17,000 runs, 634 catches, 195 stumpings and multiple trophies across formats, Dhoni has retired from international cricket as one of the greatest cricketers and biggest contributors to Indian cricket. The Jharkhand cricketer remains the only captain to have won all three major ICC trophies - World Cup, World T20 and Champions Trophy. View the full article
  20. Believe it or not, India as a country is held together largely by jugaad, the ingenious solutions that we have developed over the years. Apart from being an expert in almost every other thing, we Indians are master engineers. Is it any surprise that most of our parents wanted us to follow our natural calling, join IITs and become engineers? © Reuters Anand Mahindra recently tweeted out a video that best exemplifies our tenacity to come up with the âbestâ solutions with the least resources. Desi jugaad, or frugal engineering as it is known in the English lexicon, is a thing. Got this random video today. Crazy. Theyâve made this the cheapest possible tipper truck. Violates all safety& loading regulations. Hugely unsafe for those holding the truck up. Yet I marvel at how our people persevere & manage without resources. pic.twitter.com/wYbzp7KjUT â anand mahindra (@anandmahindra) June 24, 2020 As Anand Mahindra points out, this is certainly not safe, especially for the people at the front of the truck. Having said that, we are known to be a nation of daredevils, and risk-takers, no matter how idiotic or unnecessary the risk may be. After all, YOLO. © Reddit/r/indianstreetlife Here are a few other genuinely great desi jugaad solutions that were genuinely great: 1. The Jugaad Truck © Reuters If youâve ever taken a road trip through India, chances are you may have come across a Frankensteinian hybrid between a tractor and a truck that could either be a truck or a people carrier (theyâre not proper buses). Well, that thing is actually called the Jugaad truck. No one really knows how they came to be. What you do is, simply make up a frame using steel bits and pieces, put together a few repaired water pumps, an electric generator, a few wheels and you have your own rugged vehicle. Thatâs how theyâre genuinely made, we arenât kidding. You donât need a license to drive these things because they arenât legal and cannot be registered. Still, goes on to show how we made a working combustion engine on our own. 2. Refrigerators That Donât Need Electricity © Mitticool Seeing that many Indian households do not have access to electricity 24/7 and the fact that refrigeration does not work without electricity, a Gujarat based innovator who goes by the name of Mansukh Prajapati, created a ârefrigeratorâ using terracotta clay. All you need to do is pour a glass of water through the top, once every two or three days, and the âMitticool Fridgeâ keeps perishable food items fresh and refrigerated. 3. Bicycle-Powered Sweeping Machines © GRID This particular marvel of engineering isnât that popular yet. Nonetheless, it is ingenious, and something that we hope we see in use. This is a machine that cleans the street of solid wastes like leaves and plastic wrappers and collects it into a bin, which can be emptied into a dumpster or a dustbin. The machine is pedalled power and works in such a way that the person operating the machine, does not need to get in contact with the garbage they are disposing off. 4. Scooter-Powered Portable Flour Mill © IANS Remember the yellow coloured scooter at the end of 3 Idiots that was being used to grind wheat. It wasnât just the figment of some producerâs imagination. Several scooters like these actually exist and are being used in several areas across the country where there are no flour mills. Sheikh Jahangir, the guy who actually had the ingenious idea of attaching a small flour mill to the powertrain of his scooter, was tired of the constant power cuts in his area. So he decided why not use the power from the engine to power other stuff. Before the portable flour mill, he made several other things using the scooter, such as an irrigation pump, and a spray painting machine. 5. Pedal-Powered Washing Machine © IANS Finally, we have the pedalled power washing machine that was invented by a girl when she was 14. Remya Jose was a student in Kerala when she made this rather ingenious solution battling one of the most common issues that have persistently afflicted people across the country - access to quality and stable power supply. There are several iterations of the pedal-powered washing machine, which work really well with varying load sizes. This is actually a great way of getting a workout in and getting some household chores done. View the full article
