  1. The Indian cricket team comprises of numerous players who share more than just a good rapport with each other. And then, there are Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul whose bromance probably overshadows the camaraderie shared between other players in the team. From hanging out together on tours to exchanging their jerseys on the field, it's needless to say that the young duo is inseparable. However, the year 2019 started on a disastrous note for the Indian stars. The two cricketers were reprimanded for their demeanour on the popular TV show 'Koffee With Karan'. There was a lot of backlash on social media that in turn led to their respective suspensions at the hands of the Indian cricket board. © Instagram/@hardikpandya93 It was arguably the lowest of lows in their respective careers. But, the two cricketers didn't let it affect their mindset as they won the fans back with spirited performances, upon their return, on the field. While Rahul looks determined in his batting approach for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Pandya, too, appears more focussed while carrying out his responsibilities for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season. Their fall from grace seems to have brought the much-needed maturity into their approach towards the game. And, with the chat show controversy behind them, both Rahul and Pandya are looking to make the most of the opportunities with positive intent - something that was highlighted in the latter's latest Instagram post. View this post on Instagram Brothers for life !!!!! No matter what !!! Love u bro @rahulkl happy birthday. Let's make it our year A post shared by Hardik Pandya (@hardikpandya93) on Apr 17, 2019 at 11:34am PDT On 18th April, Rahul turned 27. From his fans to teammates, everyone poured in heartfelt wishes for the Karnataka batsman. But, the one from Pandya clearly stood out. Taking to Instagram to wish his best mate, Pandya wrote: "Brothers for life !!!!! No matter what !!! Love u bro @rahulkl happy birthday. Let's make it our year". Both Rahul and Pandya have been included in Team India's 15-man squad for the ICC World Cup by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While Rahul will either provide a back-up option as an opener or might just get to play at the much-debated No. 4 slot, Pandya will add teeth to the Indian line-up with his all-around abilities.

KL Rahul - The Man Within

Our August 2018 cover star is KL Rahul. After a fantastic season in the IPL he graces our cover in a whole new avatar. The fashionable cricketer. Check it out.
  3. Earlier this year, Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul had found themselves in a troublesome situation after appearing on popular television show 'Koffee With Karan'. The sexist comments, mainly by Pandya, on the chat show had stirred up a massive controversy which eventually led to the suspensions of the two cricketers, pending an inquiry. While Hardik was majorly responsible (owing to his remarks about women) for the controversy, Rahul also paid the price of being there in the company of the Baroda cricketer. Though the investigation in their conduct on the show is still ongoing, the controversy has pretty much died down following the unconditional apologies from the two cricketers. But, it appears that the cricket fans are still hung on to it. On 10th April, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) were looking to build on their triumph over Mumbai Indians (MI) earlier in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season, when they visited the hallowed Wankhede stadium. A strong top-order batting performance was the recipe of their success at the PCA stadium and it, once again, allowed them to push the hosts on the backfoot early on. MUST WATCH : KL Rahul's majestic ton at Wankhede Full video here â¶ï¸â¶ï¸https://t.co/rCA01DMVxp #MIvKXIP pic.twitter.com/8zSt2Cg5pz — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) April 10, 2019 A 116-run opening stand between Rahul and Chris Gayle got Punjab to a flyer. While Gayle lost his wicket to Krunal Pandya after scoring a 36-ball 63, Rahul continued his carnage and remained unbeaten at 64-ball 100 - his maiden ton in the IPL. The KXIP opener was batting on 69 when Hardik came in to bowl the penultimate over - something that later became the talking point amongst fans on social media. The right-hander extended his arms beautifully and smashed the first ball over extra cover for a six. Hardik tried to outfox Rahul with a slower ball on the next delivery, but the batsman sent it over the in-field for a four. ð¯ð¤ð @klrahul11 #MIvKXIP pic.twitter.com/e21T74PecY — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) April 10, 2019 Put under pressure with early boundaries in the over, Hardik decided to use the short ball on the third delivery, but couldn't stop Rahul from hooking it over fine leg for another six. The fourth delivery, once again, went for a six as Rahul hammered the slower ball back over Hardik's head and over the ropes. Another six on the first and a couple on the fourth delivery of Jasprit Bumrah's final over saw Rahul notching up his first IPL hundred. While Rahul's heroics eventually went in vain as Mumbai defeated Punjab by three wickets, his bashing of Hardik (23 runs in 5 balls) surely got the fans excited on the social media. While some called it revenge for 'Koffee With Karan' scandal, others deemed it a befitting punishment for Hardik. 4. One of the country's most coveted examinations to make it as a civil servant, the Civil Services Examination (CSE), which is conducted by UPSC every year, announced the CSE 2018 results recently on 5th April. While we all know about the exam topper Kanishak Kataria, who had thanked his girlfriend for his success besides his family, there is another candidate from Assam who has achieved nothing less © ANI Hailing from Assam's Sivasagar, Rahul Kumar Gupta is one of the thirteen candidates from the state who cracked the prestigious exam this year. With AIR-286 in the competitive exam, Rahul, who is the son of a small paan shop owner, has shown the world that nothing can stand between one's hard work and ambition. © T8N Rahul has become an inspiration for hundreds of young boys and girls who are preparing to crack the exam. Rahul thanked his family, teachers and other well-wishers for their support and encouragement. He told the media, “I thank all those who have supported me, this would not have been possible without their support." © Flickr Rahul's father is on cloud nine after his son's achievements. Mr Omprakash Gupta runs a small paan shop and admitted that it's been difficult to maintain a family of eight with his meagre income. Mr Gupta shared that, "I really had to work hard to run the family with this small paan shop, Janata Paan Bhandar. I open the shop at six in the morning and continue till 9 pm." However, today he feels nothing but immense pride and joy, and all his struggles are long forgotten. He said, “It was really hard because I had six students in my family. However, today, my son's result has waived of all my hard work over the years.” © Representative Image-Wikipedia Even Rahul's mother cried tears of joy upon hearing the news and shared that Rahul had always been a sincere and bright student. Even Rahul's siblings cannot contain their joy and are flooded with congratulatory wishes. Rahul's younger brother Abhishek was quoted as saying by Time8, “We are proud of bhaiya. He has been a Civil Service aspirant ever since he passed his Higher Secondary examination. This was his third attempt." It has also been reported that Rahul is currently pursuing his PG from JNU, after completing his graduation from DU. Rahul has had an incredible journey and strove hard to fulfil all his ambitions. He is indeed an inspiration for all of us!
  5. For someone who enjoyed a sensational run last season, KL Rahul might have taken his time, but he is surely getting into the groove in the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The right-handed batsman smashed an unbeaten 53-ball 71 to power Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) to a six-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium on 8th April. Chasing a paltry total of 150 runs, the dashing opener looked in ominous touch while playing beautiful strokes early on. While his opening partner Chris Gayle couldn't score more than 16 runs, Rahul appeared solid in his approach and carried the baton for his side till the very end. Twitter/@IPL The 26-year-old stitched a match-winning partnership of 114 runs for the second wicket alongside Mayank Agarwal who gave adequate support to his partner during his 43-ball 55. Their partnership was eventually broken by Sandeep Sharma following a poor shot selection by Mayank. And, the quick dismissals of David Miller (1) and Mandeep Singh (2) gave a glimmer of hope to the visiting side. But, Rahul made sure there were no hiccups as he got Punjab over the line. Rahul's brilliant batting display meant that David Warner's pivotal knock of 70 runs went in vain as Hyderabad paid dearly for their mediocre batting and lacklustre bowling in Chandigarh. Twitter/@IPL Having begun the tournament with lowly individual scores of 4 and 1, Rahul seems to be getting his mojo back as he slammed three fifties in his next four innings (71*, 15, 55, 71*). The KXIP opener has now amassed 217 runs at a strike-rate of over 120 in six games he has played so far. He has also secured the third spot in the race for the 'Orange Cap' behind Hyderabad's dynamic openers Jonny Bairstow (263) and Warner (349).
  6. Arguably one of the highly-rated young talents in the country, KL Rahul climbed up the ladder in Indian cricket on the basis of consistent performances. Making full use of the opportunities, his breakthrough 2013-14 season laid the foundation of Karnataka's Ranji Trophy triumph, proving his credentials as a first-class cricketer. Then, a profitable 2016 IPL season saw him earning his cap for the national team. His appetite for runs further gave India an opportunity to boast of an extra option at the top of the order. And, over the years, the 26-year-old has established himself as valuable addition to the Indian cricket team. But, apart from his artistry with the willow, Rahul is also looked upon as a youth icon - thanks to his distinctive personal style. KL Rahul Tattoos & Their Meanings Whether it's his choice of clothing or trend-setting hairdos, Rahul continues to enjoy the status of one of the most stylish cricketers in the Indian team. The dashing right-hander, who continues to carry out his on-field responsibilities in style, has also been a big fan of tattoos - something that has captured the imagination of cricket fans. We've all seen the multiple warrior-style tattoos which cover much of his skin. But, while his dedicated fans know the story behind some of his pieces, much of the art he has on his skin has been a mystery. But, not anymore. In an exclusive interaction with MensXP, the Red Bull athlete finally revealed seven of his favourite tattoos and what they really mean to him. Lighthouse On Left Forearm © Red Bull While a lighthouse might seem like an abstract tattoo to many, for Rahul, it has a special meaning. The Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) opener has got a lighthouse tattooed on his arm in a bid to remember his home. The right-handed batsman grew up by the beach in Mangaluru before he shifted to Bengaluru to pursue his interest in cricket. One look at the lighthouse tattoo takes Rahul back to the memories of his childhood home. Key With Ram Horns © Red Bull A true Aries, Rahul was eager to get a tattoo around his sun sign. That's why the Indian opener for a customized version with ram horns to go with it. The key – which goes around his forearm – signifies being open to learning new things and unlocking his mind with new experiences. Clock On His Bicep © Red Bull The clock tattoo on the inside of his left bicep has the hands inked at 11 o'clock. Rahul was born at 11 o'clock which is why the clock hands are tattooed at that position. The phrase “Veni, vidi, vici”, which is Latin for “come, see, conquer” is tattooed around the clock to signify that Rahul's time as an Indian cricketer has begun and he intends to conquer the world with his bat. All-Seeing Eye On His Left Bicep © Red Bull This tattoo is a reminder that his grandparents are always watching over him and are protecting him. Deshi Basara Script On Right Forearm © Red Bull Rahul is a huge fan of the comic book superhero Batman. The expression Deshi Basara – which means “to rise up” – is from the 2012 Batman film The Dark Knight Rises. 284 In Roman Numerals © Red Bull This tattoo runs across the right side of his torso. It is his Test cap number for India. He was the 284th cricketer to play for the Indian national cricket team, so this tattoo is very special to him because he had to work really hard to earn the spot in the India team. Parents' Names Tattooed On His Wrists © Instagram/@rahulkl KL Rahul has his mother's name Rajeshwari on his left wrist and his dad's name Lokesh on his right wrist. When his parents started getting annoyed about the rising number of tattoos he was getting, KL Rahul got their names tattooed on his wrists. Since then, they haven't had a problem with him getting more tattoos. More Tattoos © Instagram/@rahulkl The first tattoo KL Rahul ever got was a giant wing on his back when he was 17 years old. He also has the image of his dog Simba tattooed on his back. His left hand has the number one on it, which is one of his most recent tattoos. He got the number one tattoo because it is his jersey number in the Indian cricket team. He also has the number XI tattoo on his bicep, which was his jersey number when he first started playing for India. The rose tattoo on his left hand symbolizes new beginnings. The tattoo of arrows on his left hand is to protect him from harm. The owl tattoo on his left hand is a symbol of wisdom and knowledge. He also has tattoos for water, air and sun across his body, which are the three elements that are important to him.
  7. One of the greatest batsmen to have ever represented the Men in Blue, Rahul Dravid has fulfilled his duties as the coach of the junior Indian cricket team and helped them experience the level of success that not even the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would have seen coming their way. It was under the leadership of Mr Dependable himself, that Team India A was able to completely dismantle the visiting England Lions for a five-match one-day series and not to forget the 2018 World Cup victory by the Under-19 squad captained by Shubhman Gill along with the 2018 Asia cup championship. It was therefore rather obvious to have Dravid become a major part of the revamping of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), a Bengaluru-based facility that will ensure state of the art technology and other provisions to contribute even more towards the betterment of the future of cricket in India. "Rahul has been handling junior cricket for a while now and the results have been phenomenal. It's only natural that he had to get involved with affairs at the NCA (in the present position). Now, he's determined to bring about a complete turnaround at the academy. With the kind of vision he has, it's already a given now that this is his role until he decides to stay,” Times of India quoted an informed official. Dravid will be entrusted with the role of building the entire academy from scratch while hiring the entire coaching team from all around the country. “For all practical purposes, NCA will now be Rahul's baby,” said another official. His vision has already started to make some significant changes to the pre-established rules. For instance, back in the day, 15 out of 20 people were selected to go further for the training camp, the other five would have been asked to go home, leaving behind their dreams. Dravid, however, has made it clear that all 20 athletes will remain with the academy throughout the camp. While a lot of people had hoped that the BCCI would have selected 'The Wall' as the leader of the main Indian cricket roster instead of Ravi Shastri, this may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the future Indian athletes, having being taught under the wings of the very best at an early stage. With a rock solid base to build their cricketing career upon, Dravid's NCA might as well be the place where dreams are transformed into reality.
  8. Bollywood enjoys a crazy fan following not only in India, but even beyond its borders, reaching far and wide across the globe. There have been multiple occasions when people from far away lands have expressed their appreciation and liking for Bollywood films, especially our stars and songs. The Hindi film industry is known all over the world for its loud and peppy numbers that feature in our films and the crazy dance moves our actors pull on-screen in keeping with the Bollywood tradition. © Dharma Productions It seems like Bollywood has found some very special fans not so far away from home in Indonesia. A video featuring three young Indonesian friends, who recently got together and recreated the iconic title track of Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee starrer 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', titled 'Tum Paas Aaye' is doing the rounds of social media. 9. The twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) began with a promise of a scintillating contest between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) which pitted iconic stars MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli against each other. But, thanks to a raging turner at the MA Chidambaram stadium, the match turned out to be a hunting ground for spinners as CSK romped to a seven-wicket win. It was definitely not the kind of contest fans were hoping for, but it did the job for Chennai in attaining two crucial points. But, the two matches on 24th March had no shortage in terms of blistering knocks and towering hits. While Andre Russel's blazing 19-ball 49 powered Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a six-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the third match of the season saw Rishabh Pant going hammer and tongs in his blitzkrieg of 27-ball 78 to pave way for Delhi Capitals' 37-run triumph over Mumbai Indians (MI). © Twitter/@IPL During the third match, the likes of Pant, Colin Ingram (47) and Shikhar Dhawan (43) hogged the limelight for their respective knocks, one Delhi Capitals player quietly etched his name in the history books for a unique feat. The 25-year-old took four catches against Mumbai and became the fourth fielder to do so in the history of the IPL. In the process, he joined the elite list of cricketers including Sachin Tendulkar, David Warner and Jacques Kallis who also took four catches in the IPL seasons earlier. Rahul Tewatia now joins Sachin Tendulkar, David Warner and Jacques Kallis to become the 4th fielder in #IPL history to claim 4 catches in a match.#IPL2019 #IPL12 #MIvDC — Mohandas Menon (@mohanstatsman) March 24, 2019 While his teammates upped the ante in batting and bowling departments, Tewatia made his presence felt in the field by with his safe pair of hands. His catches resulted in the dismissals of Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh, Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya - all capable of taking the game away from Delhi. Following their emphatic triumph, Delhi - tournament's perennial underachievers - romped to the No. 1 spot in the points table with two points and a stunning Net Run-Rate (NRR) of +1.850. Having defeated three-time champions Mumbai, Delhi will be eager to carry on their winning momentum when they take on mighty Chennai in their second match at the Feroz Shah Kotla on 26th March.
  10. Arguably one of the highly-rated young talent in the country, KL Rahul climbed up the ladder in Indian cricket on the basis of consistent performances. But, as all good things come to an end, Rahul hit a lean patch that saw him getting dropped from the side. And, just when things couldn't get any worse for him, the Karnataka cricketer found himself in the middle of a controversy following his appearance on popular chat show 'Koffee With Karan' alongside teammate Hardik Pandya. And, what followed later had a great impact on the young cricketer. Slammed by a billion fans and suspended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Rahul endured the worst possible nightmare a cricketer can be exposed to. But, rather than letting the incident affect his mindset, Rahul used it as an opportunity to channelise his frustration into fruitful results. © AP "It has been a hard time, no doubt. As a player, as a person, everyone has to go through difficult times and it was my time to go through that. It gave me the time to reflect on my game, on myself. I have always been somebody who takes things as it comes and I am just happy to be back here now," Rahul told the International Cricket Council (ICC). Before his suspension, Rahul was subject to immense criticism following his below-average performances in Australia. His frailties, especially against incoming deliveries which first appeared on the England tour, were exposed and exploited by the Australian seamers. And, the result was quite obvious for the right-hander. Using the suspension for his own good, the right-handed batsman bolstered the chinks in his armour through hard work in the nets and by spending time with Rahul Dravid. Given an opportunity to regain his form, the 26-year-old was roped in for India A's home series against England Lions that brought a more focussed and responsible Rahul to the fore. Leading from the front, Rahul scored 81 runs in India A's first innings. The right-hander stitched a 178-run stand with fellow opener and centurion Abhimanyu Easwaran to box the visitors out of the contest in Mysore. Apart from that, the elegant batsman also scored 89 runs in the first unofficial Test in Wayanad. © AP "I got some time off from international cricket, so I could come back to India and reflect on what was not going right for me. Fortunately, I got to play some India A games where the pressure is a bit less and where I could focus on my skill and my technique. Got to spend a lot of time with Rahul Dravid, working on my game and chatting about cricket. He helped a lot in the five games I played for India A. The time I have spent in the middle has helped," Rahul said. Showing signs of improvement, Rahul was then called back into the national side for Australia's tour of India - a moment that he had been patiently waiting for to right his wrongs. The first T20I saw a rampant Rahul hammering his way to a 36-ball 50 in a match where the popular batsmen failed to deliver. Continuing his fine form, the Indian opener began his innings in the second T20I in the same 'slambang' manner before getting dismissed for a 26-ball 47 that was decorated with four sixes. While India lost both the matches and eventually the T20I series, it was great to see Rahul return to form and emerging as the second-highest run-getter. © AP "It's nice to be back with the boys and be back in blue. Just happy that I have tasted a bit of success in the last two games and my batting has come out pretty well," he said. But, individual success means nothing to this dashing batsman as he expressed his disappointment after failing to guide his team to victory. "But the other side is that I could have carried on in both innings, got a big score and won the game for my team. I'll take the two knocks but there is a lot that I have learnt from the two knocks and I want to improve," Rahul concluded. For a man who became 'Public Enemy No 1' and was left to fend for himself in abyss following his controversy and, thereon, suspension, Rahul's grit and perseverance as a cricketer has undeniably allowed him to win back the fans and impress the Indian selectors with his renewed form. Going into the five-match ODI series, Rahul would be eager to carry his blistering form to help India peg back the Aussies and bolster his chances of securing a spot in Virat Kohli-led side's playing XI for the ICC World Cup in England & Wales.
  11. In an avalanche of political biopics this year, there is a new surprise entry which no one knew about. After 'The Accidenal Prime Minister' and 'Thackeray' creating a major buzz in the nation, the trailer for a biopic on Rahul Gandhi dropped today, completely unannounced. Before we even begin to dissect it, let's just have a look at it first. The trailer follows a young Rahul swimming while his grandmother Indira Gandhi looks upon him dotingly. It is established that he shares a very warm relationship with his grandmom and his father and the death of the PM affects him more than others. We see the grown up leader form of Rahul Gandhi who ends up winning hearts of everyone. The trailer ends on a very vague note and while the acting and dialogue delivery is quite questionable, we wonder why couldn't the direction be a bit more serious? This looks more like a parody and that's exactly what social media is wondering about. Brace yourself, biopic on Rahul Gandhi is on its way. The trailer is terribly cheap, it's as poor as his political ability.. 12. You know how sometimes something very absurd and unexpected happens and you're convinced you're in the weirdest timeline? Well, the Indian political parties are doing exactly that right now and I'm like 98% sure we really are in some alternate universe, and it's because of all the rap videos and memes by BJP, Congress, and AAP which are flooding the social media. We all know the elections are coming, so basically, BJP released what seems like a 'Gully Boy'-inspired rap video calling out Congress and its party head Rahul Gandhi. Parties directly targeting each other is not unusual and thanks to social media, we are all a part of it now and honestly, this year's elections will be a social media battle that will give everyone a lot of second-hand embarrassment. Coming back to the rap, it's straight up called 'Congress Se Azadi' so no one accidentally misses the point. With lyrics like 'Baaki poor desh doobe, inki naiya paar hai na' and 'akela insaan fir gaadi teri chaar kyun? 13. 2018 ended on a horrible note for the former Indian cricketer Jacob Martin, who battled against time in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in critical condition following a road accident on 28th December and was put on a ventilator as his family felt severely short of money to continue with the expensive treatment. At that time, the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) sanctioned an aide worth Rs 5 Lakh out of the Benevolent Fund whilst former skipper Sourav Ganguly also showed his support. However, the greatest gesture was shown by cricketer Krunal Pandya who gave a blank cheque to Sanjay Patel, the former secretary of the BCCI and the Baroda Cricket Association while reportedly saying, “Sir, please fill up whatever is needed, but nothing less than Rs 1 lakh". With the good wishes of the fans of the cricketer and those of Indian cricket, Martin was successfully discharged from the ICU after spending almost a month under 'critical' status. Having said that, a pair of ruptured lungs and a failing liver takes a lot of care and treatment to get over. When the injuries are so grave, the rate at which the cash flows can reduce the wealthiest of families to mediocrity. In such testing times, former Indian opener KL Rahul emerged as the knight in the shining armour who reportedly made the biggest individual donation to the Martin family. Jacob's wife while having confirmed receiving the funds from the batsman refused to reveal the exact amount on the request of Rahul himself but Mumbai Mirror confirms that Rahul's hefty donation was the greatest made by anyone. “A big thanks to Rahul and everyone who has helped,” an emotional Jacob Martin expressed to the newspaper as the cricketers of the past and the present have come together to stand by the ailing athlete. Ever since India's Test series against Australia, KL Rahul has found himself to be off in his form before getting suspended for being a part of a controversial episode of a chat show alongside teammate and best-buddy Hardik Pandya. It can be excruciatingly difficult for an athlete to life through a stint of bad form with the public constantly hating on them for their deeds beyond the field and for Rahul to show up for a cause so noble right now, says a million things about how good the cricketer is at heart.
  14. Mamata Banerjee recently began a sit-in in Kolkata to protest against the Central government. The 'dharna' is a result of a a CBI investigation involving a lot of members of her society and central government's accusations against her for blocking a Supreme Court-ordered inquiry because she was “trying to hide something”. Then, she also accused PM Narendra Modi and the ruling party of political vendetta and launched what she calls a “satyagraha to save the constitution”. While Arvind Kejriwal and Rahul Gandhi have shown support for her, even people on Twitter have shown a slightly different kind of support. A video of Mamata Banerjee just walking during the dharna has turned into a meme and people have honestly given so many hilarious captions to it. Here are some of the best ones: Too relatable. 15. India is a country where cricket is considered nothing less than religion and people literally worship the game. It is a country where no matter how much you promote any other sport, it will always come under the shadow of the game of cricket It is a country where children are playing the game even in the narrowest of streets, aspiring to represent their nation. But at the end of the day, the Indian National team has only 16 spots, out of which the 11 best players get to play. And let's be very honest, not everyone can be a Virat Kohli or a Rohit Sharma. Millions of children play cricket every day, out of which about fifty thousand take it up as a profession in a good year, and out of those fifty thousand, only 16 get selected. The numbers put things into perspective, doesn't it? The cricket mania in our country is such that people leave everything to excel in the sport. They train day and night just to get into that blue jersey. Many leave their studies and every other hobby, just to focus on the game. And out of all, there are only a handful of people who get to have their dream come true. The rest have to make do with crushed dreams. The importance of studies is such that even a legend like MS Dhoni completed his degree. Even after years of getting on the field, he did complete his education, because he himself realises how imperative it is to have one. © Reuters Speaking of wise legends of the game, how can we forget our Mr Dependable, Rahul Dravid, who himself has a Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) from St. Joseph's College? Dravid, who has been in charge of India's U-19 squad and India A team for over three years now, has also raised his voice in favour of young cricketers having alternate career options as the drop-out rates continue to escalate. During a recent meeting with the BCCI officials, 'the wall' weighed in on the importance of working on the life skills for the budding cricketers. © ICC Tufan Ghosh, the COO of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) spoke of the meeting with TOI in his recent interview: “Dravid and the other coaches here had pointed out the need to start such a process. We are working towards formulating a structure before it is sent to the higher authorities in BCCI to get things going... Right now, we can't be teaching them like what happens in NIS, but Dravid has emphasized on life education.” Further explaining his statement, Mr Ghosh said: “Most of the cricketers these days are so engrossed in playing the game that they don't look at any other aspect of life. It has been observed a lot of these young players quit cricket by 21. Then it's a struggle for them to lead a stable life. We are looking at life coaching, internships with companies and training in other vocational courses and then facilitating jobs for the youngsters.” BCCI is further looking to rope in companies that can help them with the process. They have also planned to align with the state bodies and academies, so that if the players from different state bodies feel the need to avail the facility, then it could be done easily. Let's hope this step by BCCI proves to be a fruitful one for the coming generations.
  16. Imagine, you are chilling with your friends in Goa, and suddenly you come across a man who looks exactly like Rahul Gandhi; but without any security or politicians around him. No, you're not drunk and neither is he the Congress Chief's doppelganger. It is indeed Rahul Gandhi, who is currently in Goa, munching on delicious seafood, with his mother Sonia Gandhi by his side. © Instagram After attending the Republic Day celebrations in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi flew down to Goa for a three-day private trip. In fact, Rahul gave a pleasant surprise to the folks at South Goa's Fisherman's Wharf, when he suddenly arrived at the restaurant to have lunch with his mother. "When I asked for a photograph with him, he said he would oblige after he settles the bill," said Rachna Fernandes, a Goa-based dentist who even shared the picture on social media. 17. Rewinding time is not possible, but 'do-overs' are. Not many get an opportunity to right their wrong. But Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have got one where they can win over the fans with a good performance on the field. After being suspended for their misdemeanour on the popular chat show 'Koffee With Karan', the duo finally had some good news as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) lifted their respective bans with immediate effect. In its press release, BCCI claimed: “Hardik Pandya will be sent to New Zealand to join the team at the earliest and KL Rahul will join the India A squad to play the last 3 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against England Lions.” It was a much-needed step, as finalising the Indian Team's squad for the World Cup is the need of the hour. Hardik Pandya being a handy batting allrounder, can provide good depth in the batting unit and can prove to be an asset in the pace department for the team. With Virat Kohli out for the last two ODIs and the T20I series, along with Vijay Shankar not being able to cement his position in the team, the bets of Pandya making the cut for India's playing XI are really high. © Reuters And to be honest, Kohli in his past interviews has always talked about strengthening his pace attack by having three pacers. Pandya's presence would bolster the pace attack, easing the pressure on the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami. On the other hand, getting some game-time with the India A squad, KL Rahul can surely use the opportunity to rediscover his lost form and probably return to the national team just in time for the ICC mega event in England. © Reuters Following their nightmarish experience that lasted a bit longer than one would have expected, these two youngsters can now focus on their game in a bid to reclaim the love and trust of the fans.
  18. After nearly a month of public humiliation and hate speeches by cricketers and fans alike, which eventually led to massive self-loathing by Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul for their juvenile comments at Bollywood director and actor Karan Johar's talkshow, Koffee With Karan, the Board of Cricket Control in India or BCCI's Committee of Administration, has finally decided to lift the ban on the young stars of the Indian cricket team on Thursday. © Instagram "The Committee of Administrators ("CoA") had, by emails dated 11.01.2019, and in exercise of Rule 41(6) of the Constitution of BCCI, suspended Mr. Hardik Pandya and Mr. K.L. Rahul in view of the allegations of misconduct against them, pending adjudication of the allegations under Rule 46 of the approved BCCI Constitution," the CoA said in a press release. "Since the adjudication of all allegations of misconduct against any cricketer registered with, inter alia, the BCCI is required to be undertaken by the BCCI Ombudsman, whose appointment is pending directions of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India, the CoA is the of the view that the interim suspension orders dated 11.01.2019 should be presently lifted with immediate effect. "The above matter and decision has been taken with the concurrence of the Learned Amicus Curiae, Mr. P.S. Narasimha. In view of the above, the suspension orders dated 11.01.2019 is immediately lifted pending appointment and adjudication of the allegations by the BCCI Ombudsman," the release said. With the ban now lifted, pacer Hardik Pandya has now been asked to join the Men in Blue for the ongoing ODI series in New Zealand which India lead 1-0 following a brilliant bowling attack by Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav. DETAILS â¬ï¸https://t.co/5MQdubt3w8 pic.twitter.com/nR3nd1T9RY — ICC (@ICC) January 25, 2019 KL Rahul, who was going through a major struggle on the crease even before the ban took place, during the Border-Gavaskar Test series in Australia, has also been given the opportunity to regain his confidence by joining Rishabh Pant in the India A squad, scheduled to take on the England Lions in a three-game one-dayers in Trivandrum. Karan Johar on the other hand showed his relief upon hearing the fortunate news for the two of India's finest. "I am so happy to hear that the ban has been lifted. I am so relieved and grateful. They deserved another chance. I am glad that the Board has given them this chance," Johar expressed as reported by The Times of India. Whatever the duo said during the show was wrong, there are no two ways about it but, they have paid for more than what they had bargained for during their banned-stint in India. What is of essence is the fact that both Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul are exceptional cricketers and their presence in the Indian roster for the upcoming 2019 ICC World Cup may be crucial.
  19. While their team has been busy negating the Australians in hostile territory, two Indian cricketers have found themselves in a major crisis situation for their antics off the field. KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya, two of the most exciting young talents in the country, became 'Public Enemy No. 1' following their inappropriate demeanour on the popular chat show 'Koffee With Karan'. Appearing on the show, the Indian cricketers were seen making sexist remarks while objectifying women on national television. Owing to their crass comments, the duo sparked a major outrage on the social media with many suggesting stern action against them. Since then, the cricketers, fans and even the Indian cricket board's Committee of Administrators (CoA) have condemned their remarks on the show. While Pandya and Rahul are currently serving their suspension pending an inquiry into the matter, the two cricketers continue to draw flak for what was arguably one of Indian cricket's lowest of lows. Joining the bandwagon, Mumbai Police recently voiced their disapproval of the demeanour of the two cricketers. 20. Ever since the so-called 'special' episode of 'Koffee With Karan' aired last Sunday, the lives of Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have turned around for all the wrong reasons. Owing to their misogynist and sexist comments on the show, the two Indian cricketers have already faced a lot of backlash as they await fitting punishment for their actions on national TV. After the Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai's recommendation of a two-ODI ban, the duo was charged with misconduct and indiscipline before being suspended from all forms of cricket pending a detailed inquiry into the controversy. The two cricketers were later forced to return home from Australia where the Indian cricket team is currently engrossed with the ODI series. Amid the uproar on social media, Virat Kohli made his stand clear and stated that the comments made by Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul are not are not acceptable and the personal opinions are not the view of the India team. "We, definitely, as the Indian cricket team do not support views like that and that has been communicated. I can definitely say that as the Indian cricket team and responsible cricketers we definitely don't align with those views and those are purely individual views," Kohli had said ahead of India's first ODI against the Aussies at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). BCCL Following Kohli's strong stance on the demeanour of the two cricketers, Harbhajan Singh, too, came out all guns blazing against Pandya and Rahul for tarnishing the image of the game and those who play it. even went on to add that he won't be comfortable having Pandya and Rahul around his wife and daughter. "I will not travel with these two guys in the bus if my daughter or my wife are travelling in the team bus with me. How would they feel? You are looking at women in only one angle and that is not right," Harbhajan told India Today. The veteran Indian spinner also pointed out that the duo's comments have now put every cricketer's reputation on the line. "We don't talk about all this even with our friends and they were talking on public television. Now people might think was Harbhajan Singh like this, was Anil Kumble like this and was Sachin Tendulkar," Harbhajan added. Instagram/@hardikpandya93 "Pandya has been in the team for how long to talk of the team culture in the manner he did. I think this is the way to go," the 38-year-old said, when asked about the suspension. "The BCCI did the right thing, and this is also the way forward. This was expected and I am not surprised," Bhajji said. Following the nation-wide outrage, Pandya and Rahul, in response to the BCCI's showcause notice demanding an explanation from the two cricketers, had regretted their actions and apologised for hurting the sentiments of people. However, the BCCI officials unanimously decided to suspend the Pandya and Rahul while ordering an inquiry into the row.
  21. Be it his 270 knock against Pakistan or an extremely fine innings against England where he scored a brilliant 148, Rahul Dravid is and will always be the master of Test cricket. With going against the time, Dravid stuck to the basics and dominated the field with his defensive batting style even when the era of reckless and offensive batting had taken over. One of a kind, Dravid is loved by cricketers and fans from all around the world. His greatness has been well documented and is studied and glorified by the pundits of the game even today. As the cricketer turns 46 today, here is what some of the legends of the game have to say about 'The Wall': Ian Chappell © Reuters Dravid has always been India's superhero who showed up at the 11th hour to rescue his team from jaws of defeat and to victory, case in point, the Test match between India and England back in 2011 when Gautam Gambhir was unable to play due to a concussion and Dravid had to replace him as the opener. The block that he is, scored a stunning century. Brett Lee © Reuters Dravid is the nicest guy one could ever fancy meeting. For a person who has achieved so much, he has never been the one to let his success get to his head. While players of his stature tend to retire with a farewell tour, Dravid said 'goodbye' to the sport in a press conference in his home ground, the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Shoaib Akhtar © Reuters He was not called 'The Wall' for no reason. His knock against Australia in Adelaide back in 2003, where he scored a massive 233 runs in a single innings, exemplifies the reassurance Dravid was to the Indian cricket team. He was the backbone of the team that was essential for the proper functioning of the squad. Harsha Bhogle © Reuters Dravid has always been the one to highlight the achievements of his teammates. Never shying away from acknowledging the efforts put in by a batsman he shared a successful partnership or a bowler who bagged a couple of wickets to get the team a win, he is all about his fellow Men in Blue. Bhogle once wondered aloud “How can a man be so selfless,” and we still don't have an answer. Rahul Dravid © Reuters And that's who Rahul Dravid is, in essence. Never to fall for materialistic things like money, Dravid truly played earn his opponents' respect and pride and that's exactly what made Rahul Dravid, Rahul Dravid. Happy birthday, 'The Wall'!
  22. While the Indian cricket team has been enjoying immense success in Australia lately, the past few months have not really been kind to the likes of Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul. While Pandya has been out of the fold due to his injury in September last year, Rahul has faced the wrath of fans and pundits alike for his dismal form Down Under. Following India's historic Test series win, on one hand, where Pandya must have been raring to go in the ODI series after his recovery, Rahul, too, would have been looking to prove his detractors wrong with a fine showing. But, all of those things seemed possible until last Sunday when the duo stirred up a massive controversy with their comments on popular chat show 'Koffee With Karan'. While Rahul was, somewhat, cautious in his choice of words, Pandya boasted of 'conquests' and possessions like a Desperado, with little respect to women. Following a massive uproar on the social media, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was forced into issuing a showcause notice to the duo, expecting a clarification on their conduct within 24 hours. © Instagram/@hardikpandya93 After a tame apology on the social media, Pandya issued another statement where the Baroda cricketer reiterated that he will not repeat the mistake again and will be more cautious in future. But, no one was impressed. Not even the BCCI's Committee of Administrators (CoA). And, to make matters worse for the two cricketers, the CoA chief Vinod Rai has now recommended a two-ODI ban on the duo. Calling the comments by Pandya and Rahul "very crass", the CoA chief wrote an email to CEO Rahul Johri. "I have seen the remarks made by these two players on the show in print today. Very crass. No apology can cover it. I had asked Diana (CoA member Diana Edulji) to suggest penalty because I had not seen the clip. I think we need to give both of them a two-match suspension. If Diana agrees, Rahul please draft an appropriate instruction and issue today as their explanations have come in. Separately, please prepare an advisory to all BCCI contracted players and support staff," Rai claimed in the email. "I am not convinced with Hardik's explanation and I have recommended a two-match ban for both players. However the final decision will be taken once Diana gives her go ahead," Rai told PTI. On the other hand, Edulji has also referred the matter to the BCCI's legal cell. "Diana has sought legal opinion whether the duo can be banned. So, obviously a decision will be taken once she gives her nod. As far as I am concerned, the comments were crass, in bad taste and unacceptable," Rai said. © Instagram "The players must be immediately suspended pending a proper inquiry and must be allowed to join the team (if selected) only once they have gone through a proper sensitisation in addition to serving a ban, if imposed upon them," he said. "In any case the entire team and support staff must go through a sensitisation process. The CEO may join them in the sensitisation as well as recommended by Ms. Veena Gowda, Advocate," he added. While the ban is yet to be sanctioned by the BCCI, it has already got the social media buzzing with all sorts of reactions from the cricket fans across the country. 23. In the ever-competitive world of cricket, winning has now become the most important thing, nullifying all the other elements that once made us believe it was indeed a gentleman's game. It doesn't matter how you win or what you do to come out on top, all that we, sadly, care for today is trophies, rankings and records galore. Similarly, Indian cricket, too, has witnessed a major overhaul over the years. The technical perfection and humility of Rahul Dravid or the sheer politeness of Sachin Tendulkar are now a thing of the past as the MS Dhoni era focused on athleticism, run-making and electric fielding displays. But, while all those things seemed like the need of the hour in the ever-changing arena of international cricket, what followed later has surely washed away everything we once knew about the game. Under the tutelage of Virat Kohli, Indian cricket team might have scaled new heights across formats, but there has been a terrifying change in their approach towards the game. From flipping a bird to the crowd in stands, engaging in verbal volleys to even allegedly getting rid of their coach, Kohli has shown a whole new side of the sport that earlier took a backseat, at least in Indian cricket. While some had their concerns with the new culture in Team India, not many cared owing to the massive success of Kohli and his team. © Instagram/@hardikpandya93 Unfortunately, the patience of Indian cricket fans reached its saturation point when Hardik Pandya, a youngster who's still looking to make his mark, resonated the questionable devil-may-care attitude - incorporated by Team India - in his tone-deaf remarks about women on a popular chat show. From branding women like trophies to shamefully boasting of his 'conquests', Pandya was blatantly misogynistic and sexist, needless to say irresponsible, in his remarks about the other *** on national television. But, he wasn't done yet. If his boorish behaviour on the chat show left the viewers shell-shocked, Pandya's mockery of an apology which lacked remorse and ownership of his actions further infuriated the cricket fans. The 25-year-old claimed: "I got a bit carried away with the nature of the show". Like, seriously, Mr Hard (as he likes to call himself)? If the nature of a show can allow sportspersons or celebrities - looked upon as a source of inspiration and motivation by many - to get carried away to an extent where they lose their grip on the sense of responsibility, the wiser call would be, to opt out of such shows. But, even if the chat show had such a nature (as claimed by Pandya), the Baroda cricketer could or should have stayed true to the ethics and conduct of everything that Indian cricket represents and stands for. Rahul Dravid - The Bakra "harassment" episode. No stains on The Wall.ð pic.twitter.com/qKFHpf2aA2 — Vinay (@SemperFiUtd) October 14, 2018 The biggest example is Dravid who once appeared on a popular prank show and still came out as the gentleman we have come to cherish over the years. Appearing on MTV Bakra, the age when the channel had one too many Cyrus', Dravid was tested to his limits amid an annoying environment, aimed at extracting a fiery response from a generally calm and composed cricketer. But, 'The Wall' showcased immense patience that was often reflected in his tireless innings for India. Now, when you compare Dravid's situation with Pandya's, anyone with a sane mind would agree that the former, in accordance to the format of the show, was forced to endure a more severe and testing environment than the latter. But, unlike Pandya, Dravid neither got carried away, nor he lost his sense of responsibility. The former Indian cricketer could have easily blasted the woman (in the video) with expletives or harsh words, but he handled it like a true gentleman. Pandya was sitting comfortably, with all his bling, on a couch with his teammate. Even if the host was provoking him with controversial questions, the Indian cricketer could have, a choice he clearly had at that time, dodged it or answered differently. But, objectifying women and, boasting of 'conquests' and possessions like a Desperado on national TV was definitely not how we expect our sportspersons to act. © BCCL Back in 2016, during India A's tour of Australia, Pandya was all praise for Dravid, claiming: "For me, everything changed after my tour of Australia with the India A team. It is a tour that transformed me as a cricketer. I can't but thank Rahul Dravid enough for his contribution. I understood that there is a mental aspect about the game that needs to be worked upon. He (Dravid) made me mentally stronger”. For a man who once claimed that he learned the mental aspect of the game from one of the greats, Pandya, now, needs to learn and instil the mentality of a sportsperson from Dravid. It's one thing to mould yourself with time to continuously grow and compete at the highest level, but, if not anything else, Pandya and the current crop of Indian cricketers can surely learn how to behave and act responsibly from the former greats like Dravid.
  24. You need to be watchful of your thoughts when you're alone, and of your words when you're in public. Don't know about the first one, but our sportspersons have certainly been dismissive of the latter of late. Earlier, while Indian skipper Virat Kohli received flak for his 'Quit India' remark, now it's Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya's turn to justify his sexist comments on Karan Johar's popular show 'Koffee With Karan', that has cricket fans up in arms. The episode which got aired earlier this Sunday, also featured Indian batsman KL Rahul, but it's Pandya's image that's under a hell lot of scrutiny, which has now led to the BCCI being involved. The Indian cricket board has issued a 'show cause' notice to both the cricketers, demanding an explanation in the next 24 hours, for their comments made on the show. Mistakes are always forgivable if one has the courage to admit them, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Pandya's so-called plea for forgiveness on Twitter, that he posted earlier today, was more of a joke than an apology as he clearly made an unconvincing excuse of 'getting carried away with the nature of the show.' It's possible that BCCI might make an unprecedented call of barring all Indian cricketers from appearing on 'non-cricketing' shows. pic.twitter.com/O0UlpFm43o — hardik pandya (@hardikpandya7) January 9, 2019 Getting back to Pandya's rant, the Baroda cricketer boasted about his flings with multiple women and how his family was proud of him for the same. With this, he also displayed his interest in how he likes to “watch and observe how they (women) move.” The moment the show got aired, Pandya attracted immense criticism by people from all over the country over his irresponsible remarks. No matter how unfiltered Hardik Pandya might be, this interview and its consequences will make him think twice before speaking the next time he is in the spotlight. BCCI has now granted 24 hours to both Rahul and Pandya to give clarification over their comments while on the 'Koffee couch'. Post which, suitable actions would be taken by the governing body. While the Indian cricket team is currently gearing up for the ODI series against Australia, the ongoing controversy was the last thing the likes of Pandya and Rahul, who are also in the squad, would have expected.
  25. The sixth season of Karan Johar's 'Koffee With Karan' is only getting wilder with each episode and last night's episode was controversial too. In case you haven't seen the episode yet, Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya is getting major flak from his fans for his 'choice of words' while talking about women and his love life. From being candid about dropping out at after 9th standard to losing his virginity, Hardik spoke unapologetically about many things, most of which did not go down too well with people. © Instagram KL Rahul on the other hand played really safe and is now being hailed as a gentleman by his fans. Amidst all the candid conversations, a crucial question was put forth that kind of confirmed the news that we all knew, but pretended that we did not believe it. Thanks to KL Rahul and Karan Johar, it is now confirmed that Arjun Kapoor and Malaika Arora are most certainly dating each other. To this, Karan asked if it was "because she was dating Arjun Kapoor?" And Rahul replied, "Yeah." Rahul also revealed that his most embarrassing moment was when his mother found a condom in his room when he was 18. He also confessed that he would like to take Katrina Kaif out on a date. From Rahul replying to girls on behalf of Pandya to Pandya playing the perfect wingman for Rahul; the bromance between these two cricketers seemed to be stronger than the coffee they sipped from their mugs.
