What does ICC think about Ramiz Raja's quadrangular series proposal?
ADMIN posted a blog entry in Geo News Blog
Sources say idea of four-nation cricket series garnered positive response in ICC Board's meeting held on Sunday -
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja had proposed a four-nation tournament featuring India, Pakistan, England and Australia but the International Cricket Council (ICC), in its board meeting in Dubai on Sunday (April 10), rejected it unanimously. The proposal was PCB's way of making up for an embarrassing 2021, where teams like England and New Zealand cancelled their respective tours of Pakistan. The proposed quadrangular tournament, as per PCB's estimates, would have fetched around 650 million dollars for all the four members and the international cricket body. Ramiz Raja tried to convince the board members but they decided to focus on bilateral commitment over a four-nation tournament. #ICYMI: PCB chairman Ramiz Raja's concept of a four-nation tournament has been turned down by the ICC due to a packed FTP.@vijaymirror's report https://t.co/twyxqHCDxW — Cricbuzz (@cricbuzz) April 11, 2022 "He (Raja) spoke about at length but the majority felt it is important for boards to focus more on bilateral commitment. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) members felt that going ahead they will only have the Asia Cup as a multi-team event in Asia and did not back the four-nation tournament,” a member, who attended the ICC meet was quoted as saying by the Indian Express. After the proposal was rejected by the ICC board members, fans came in numbers to troll the PCB chief on social media. Ramiz Raja may step down as PCB chairman after Imran?s ouster: report
ADMIN posted a blog entry in Geo News Blog
PCB chairman likely to announce resignation following meeting with ICC in Dubai -
Pakistan and India haven't played bilateral cricket in almost a decade due to political tensions between the two countries, but the BCCI have finally spoken out after Ramiz Raja proposed a four-nation series. Exclusive: Ramiz Raja explains his proposals for a new annual quadrangular T20I tournament involving Pakistan, India, England and Australia @kalson — ESPNcricinfo (@ESPNcricinfo) January 12, 2022 According to recent events, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have taken a neutral stance on the multi-nation tournament proposed to the International Cricket Council by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja. Raja wants the two adjacent teams to encounter more frequently outside of Asia Cup and ICC games, given the tremendous demand and massive popularity of Indo-Pak battles. As a result, he has been batting for India, Pakistan, England, and Australia in a four-nation tournament. At the International Cricket Council (ICC) Chief Executives Committee (CEC) meeting in Dubai on Friday, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) CEO Tom Harrison also suggested a similar competition (April 8). However, his perspective of the competition differs from Ramiz's. It should be mentioned that due to political tensions between the two countries, Pakistan and India haven't played bilateral cricket in almost a decade. While Raja appears to be committed to improving bilateral cricket relations, the BCCI's approach is one to be wary of. Members of the Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee (F&CA) were among the dissenters, believing that too many multi-team competitions could diminish the appeal of other ICC events such as the World Cup and the Champions Trophy. He may be booted out before that https://t.co/dUr45D9f6S — YouMadeMeTurnLeft#FullyVaccinated (@shibinvj007) April 2, 2022 It's worth noting that, with the exception of 2018 and 2020, an ICC tournament has been held every year since 2009. The T20 World Cup will be held later this year, while the ODI World Cup will be held next year, indicating that this tendency will continue. As a result, it is unclear whether the multi-team competition will receive ICC support. Having said that, a couple of weeks ago, the PCB had estimated that the quadrangular T20I event could generate up to USD 650 million in income for the four countries and a fair chunk of this amount will go to the ICC. Considering the fact that such a tournament would add a lot of financial value to global cricket and will be able to make the ICC explore more options for popularising cricket all over the world, there are still some chances that the globally governing body will give their consent.
