  1. TEHRAN: Iran has reportedly refused to hand over the black box from the Ukraine International Airlines 737 to planemaker Boeing, according to Reuters. Iran's aviation authority has said it would not hand over to Americans the recovered black boxes of a Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737 that crashed Wednesday, killing all 176 passengers and crew. "We will not give the black boxes to the manufacturer (Boeing) and the Americans," Iran Civil Aviation Organisation head Ali Abedzadeh said, quoted by Mehr news agency. "It's not yet clear which country the black box will go to for the investigation," he said. "This accident will be investigated by Iran's aviation organisation but the Ukrainians can also be present during the incident´s investigation," he added. Also read: Ukrainian jet crashes in Iran; all 176 on board dead The Ukraine International Airlines aircraft crashed on Wednesday morning shortly after it took off from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini airport. All 176 passengers on the flight were killed in the crash. An earlier statement on the crash from the Ukrainian embassy in Tehran said the crash had occurred due to engine failure. However, a second statement from the embassy omitted the word engine failure from its statement, saying that previous comments made regarding the cause of the crash were not official. Ukrainian Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk announced a ban on all flights from Ukraine's airlines through Iran's airspace starting tomorrow (Thursday). Airlines have swung into action to avoid using Iran and Iraq's air spaces after Irani forces launched multiple ballistic missiles at two military bases in Iraq housing US and coalition forces. Qantas, Etihad, Singapore Airlines and Emirates have announced they will change their flight paths to avoid the two countries' air spaces. Read more: Iran missile strike: Tehran claims 80 dead in attack on US bases Iran said it had attacked the military bases in retaliation for the killing of its Al Quds commander, Qassem Soleimani. The Iranian general was killed at the Baghdad international airport on Friday by a US strike ordered by President Trump, triggering tensions between Washington and Tehran. The US claimed it had killed Soleimani as he had orchestrated attacks on American troops in Iraq and was responsible on the attack on the US embassy in Iraq earlier. Iran had vowed to take 'severe revenge' from the United States for killing Soleimani, who was a celebrated commander in the country credited with enhancing the country's influence in the Middle East and defeating militias hostile to Tehran.
  2. In what was arguably one of the highly-anticipated bouts, Mary Kom got the better of Nikhat Zareen in the finals of the Women's Boxing trials for the 2020 Olympic Qualifiers in the 51-kg category at the Indira Gandhi Stadium on 28th December. There was a lot of public interest going into the bout after Nikhat made a public demand for a fair Olympic selection trial. All I want is a fair chance. If I'm not given the opporunity to compete what am I training for. Sports is about FairPlay & I dont want to loose faith in my country.Jai Hind @KirenRijiju @RijijuOffice #AjaySingh @Media_SAI @DGSAI @BFI_official @kishanreddybjp @PMOIndia #TopsAthlete pic.twitter.com/t1ie62tMJy — Nikhat Zareen (@nikhat_zareen) October 17, 2019 Earlier this October, Nikhat had written an open letter to Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju. "I have been inspired by Mary Kom since I was a teenager. The best way I can do justice to this inspiration was to strive to be as great a boxer as her. And Mary Kom is too big a legend in sport to need to hide from competition and not actually defend her Olympic qualification,” she wrote in the public letter. Putting doubts to rest, six-time world champion Mary came out on top in an intense trial, winning the contest by a split 9-1 verdict. She will now fight for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics spot in the Asia-Oceanic qualifiers from 3-14 February in Wuhan, China. But, owing to the bitter row triggered by Nikhat's public demand for a trial, tension was palpable inside the boxing hall. In a bout which had very few clear punches, there were words exchanged between the boxers inside and outside the ring. There was also a vociferous protest by the representatives of Nikhat's home state boxing association. But what caught everyone's eye more than anything was Mary's conduct after the result was announced. Mary Kom defeated Nikhat Zareen to book her spot in the Olympic qualifiers. When asked about her conduct following the bout, Mary told ANI: "Why should I shake hands with her? If she wants others to respect her then she should first respect others. I don't like people with such nature. Just prove your point inside the ring, not outside." Mary Kom on not shaking hands with Nikhat Zareen after the bout: Why should I shake hands with her? The Telangana boxer claimed that she was hurt by Mary's behaviour and accused her of using "foul language" inside the ring. According to media reports, the favourable result for Mary left a few representatives from the Telangana's boxing association, Nikhat's home state, bemused as they cried foul once the verdict was declared. Boxing Federation of India (BFI) President Ajay Singh had to step in to control the situation after AP Reddy, claiming to represent the Telangana Boxing Association, vociferously protested the decision. "How will boxing grow amid this kind of politics," Reddy later told reporters after being asked to leave the ringside by BFI president and pacified by a disappointed Nikhat herself. 3. Indian Supreme Court. Photo: FileNEW DELHI: India’s Supreme Court turned down a plea on Wednesday to stop the implementation of a new citizenship law based on religion that has set off violent protests in the country, but said it would hold hearings next month on the sweeping measure. The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) makes it easier for non-Muslims from the neighbouring countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan who settled in India prior to 2015 to gain Indian citizenship.Thousands of people have protested, saying the law is anti-Muslim and the latest in a series of measures by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist government to marginalise the community.“We want a stay order in the CAA case,” said Kapil Sibal, a lawyer for petitioners who challenged the law in court, adding it was in conflict with parts of the Indian constitution guaranteeing equality to all.Supreme Court Chief Justice SA Bobde refused requests to hold off the implementation of the law, which came into effect last week. The court will however hear petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the law on January 22.Read also: Protests across Indian cities enters sixth dayModi’s government says the law was intended to address the persecution of minorities such as Hindus, Sikhs and Christians in the Muslim-majority countries of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Those groups, many of whom have been languishing in India for years without rights, will now get an automatic path to Indian nationality if they came from these three countries before 2015.But protesters say the exclusion of Muslims shows a deep-seated bias against the community, which makes up 14 per cent of India’s population, the third largest Muslim population in the world. The new measure follows the revocation of the special status of the Muslim-majority Kashmir region, and a court ruling clearing the way for the construction of a Hindu temple on the site of a mosque razed by Hindu zealots. On Wednesday, police fired shots in the air in a Muslim-dominated part of Delhi to push back thousands of demonstrators throwing stones and glass bottles demanding the law be withdrawn.More protests are planned for Wednesday in Delhi.

  6. Do you recall the days when crime shows were a thing on TV and we'd sit through the entire episode just because it soothed our souls immensely when the culprit was brought to justice? Well, those were the days, but they are in the past. Now is the time for sanskari criminals who carry out crimes, but with consideration. Take this one incident of robbery in Brazil for instance. A video of a robbery at a pharmacy store in Brazil has gone viral because of this 'sweet' criminal who refused to take money from an elderly customer present in the store and kissed her on the forehead instead before leaving. Watch the video here. The CCTV footage shows how the two robbers enter the store and threaten the man at the cash counter before one of them starts to gather all the money. In the meantime, the other robber can be seen talking to an old lady who is offering her money to the dude. This man, however, refuses her offer and kisses her on the forehead as a sign of respect and affection. © Twitter While the robbers took off with almost $240 and are still at large, the store owner Samuel Almeida in an interview said that the female customer had approached one of the robbers and offered her money. Instead, he kissed her and said, “No, ma'am, you can be quiet, I don't want your money.” After witnessing all this sweetness, now we need a dose of “chain se sona hai toh jaag jao...” just so that we don't make it a habit to expect such sweet gestures from every criminal out there. People too have found this footage endearing...besides other things.
  7. After the historical verdict that changed dialogue for all religious sentiment in the country, it's only inevitable that everything is depicted visually to tell us what really happened. The Ayodhya verdict came out in September 2010 and since its fair and riveting result, it made a big impact on the country, and a movie by the name of 'Ram Ki Janmbhoomi' will be releasing on the 29th of March, 2019. © Cine Craft Productions Sanoj Mishra's 'Ram Ki Janmbhoomi' will be dealing with the controversial issue of Ram Mandir and Halala. Although it is in full-swing to release this Friday, there was a plea that sought to stall the release of the film, before a bench headed by Justice S A Bobde. This is because the petitioner claimed the release of the movie will impair the ongoing mediation proceedings in the land dispute case. But the Supreme Court refused the plea altogether for stalling the film, saying there is no vital connection between the mediation proceedings and the release of the movie. “There is no connection between the mediation proceeding and the release of the movie,” said the bench as they listed the plea for hearing after two weeks. © Cine Craft Productions The Delhi High court also stated that people will have to be more tolerant, if freedom of speech and expression given under the constitution has to survive in this country. The high court made this observation when a plea was filed by Yakub Habeebuddin Tucy, who happens to be a self-proclaimed descendant of Bahadur Shah Zafar. He'd made the plea to stop the release of the film in question. On March 8th, the court ordered a formal mediation into the Ayodhya case, as a way to solve the 60-year-old Ramjanambhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute. The case is not about property anymore but about how people feel about it and how they should heal from this age-old turmoil. © Twitter But we're glad the court sees positive sentiments where the dispute is concerned. For them to uphold freedom of speech and expression in the highest conduct is a great start to end the dispute through visual entertainment and we can't wait to watch the film post its release.
  8. More often than not, we come across a number of 'health' foods being advertised over the Internet. You simply cannot scroll down your feed without seeing an ad or two about those 'quality proteins' and 'superfoods'. One major claim that each of these supposed health foods makes is that they boost your metabolism and help you lose fat faster. Now, I genuinely don't know whether the marketing teams of these products are unaware of the fact the Metabolism (Resting Metabolic Rate) and Thermic Effect Of Food are two different things or whether they are trying to mislead people. I have also seen a number of gym trainers and social media coaches telling people to eat certain food/foods/recipes because they 'boost metabolism'. How Are Metabolism & TEF Different? Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) RMR is the number of calories or the amount of energy your body burns when you are resting. This basically means that RMR is the number of calories you will burn if you lay in your bed and do not even lift a finger throughout the day. Your RMR is a major component of your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) or the number of calories you burn each day, as metabolism is not a single mechanism in your body. The process of converting food into fuel for basic and complex functions like breathing, moving, exercising, walking etc is called metabolism. Thermic Effect of Food © Pinterest TEF is the number of calories your body needs to digest food by converting it into energy. Every time you eat, your body burns calories to digest the food that has been eaten. In order for you to use the calories from your food, digestion and processing of nutrients has a certain cost in the form of calories. Also, it is vital that your body maintains itself in a narrow temperature range, so it has to spend a certain amount of calories on producing heat. Different macronutrients have a different thermic effect. Protein has the highest thermic effect. At least 15 to 25% of the calories that come from protein are used to digest it. Carbs have a thermal effect of around 5 to 10% and fats have a thermic effect of around 5%. When you look at it in terms of your diet, the overall thermic effect of your diet roughly comes to around 10%. So, if you are eating 2000 calories, you would approximately be burning 200 calories to digest that food. © Pixabay Thermic Effect Is Not Caused By Any Special Foods Now, the interesting thing to understand here is that the thermic effect is created by all foods. Not by special foods or 'quality protein' or some secret blend that these marketers sell. No matter what you eat, it will create a thermic effect. Saying that a person should buy these products because they 'boost your metabolism' is as stupid as it gets. Conclusion Metabolic rate and energy expenditure are two different things. You cannot increase or decrease your metabolism by eating a sachet of protein. Your RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) is directly proportional to your bodyweight. So, the claim that these products 'boosts' metabolism or burn fat is WRONG. They do absolutely nothing other than wasting your money. 9. Women's safety has forever been a concern in India, especially in New Delhi. And when reports surface about women getting molested and raped even in broad daylight, our faith only crumbles and the thought of travelling alone at night turns into a nightmarish vision for many women. However, some women have started feeling safe while travelling at night, thanks to certain people who are going out of their way to ensure that women are safe irrespective of what time it is. One such person is Praveen Ranjan, an auto driver, who commands all our respect for doing his bit to help women. Twitter Praveen Ranjan never takes fare from the women who are travelling at night. When asked about the reason, he said, "Madam main kuch nahi leta ladkiyon se itni raat ko. Unko thik se ghar pahuchana zyada zaroori hain." Praveen's story was shared by Neha Das, who said she was glad that she met him. She wrote in her post, "Yesterday was just another day in office. Finished work just in time to leave a little before 12 am. Delhi winters are here, the streets are mostly empty. While I waited for an auto outside office, this gentleman stopped. On asking the fare, he said "Madam main kuch nahi leta ladkiyon se itni raat ko. Unko thik se ghar pahuchana zyada zaroori hain." "I stood there wondering is he for real," she further wrote and I am sure everyone reading this post would have thought the same. This autowala, whom I would like to call the unsung hero, refused to take any money from Neha, but after she insisted, he took the fare without the night charges. Not all heroes wear capes, some like Praveen silently help women rebuild their trust in society and ensure their safety. We salute this unsung hero.
  10. Buses and cab services are meant for our convenience, but sadly, many of us think twice and sometimes thrice before sitting in them. At times, we even skip them for reasons that aren't hidden from anyone. On days when we do take cabs, the first thing our parents tell us is "Share the cab details with us" or "Send us the exact location." But, thanks to Santosh, a lot of people will now feel safer while calling for a cab. Pexels Santosh is an Uber driver, who just like any other ordinary cabbie was doing his job of dropping people to their desired location. But, the reason we're talking about him is extraordinary. It was around 1 AM when Santosh dropped a woman and her mother at their destination. When he realised that the gate to their residence was shut, he refused to leave them alone and waited with them for 1.5 hours until they got inside their house. The woman took to social media to thank him for his actions. hey @Uber_India , wanted to tell you about your driver Santosh. Last night the place we were staying had it's gate was closed. It was 1 AM. He refused to let us go & waited for 1.5 hours till we got in. Kudos to him. Mom and I eternally grateful pic.twitter.com/tIjz9n2A8O — Priyashmita Guha (@priyashmita) October 14, 2018 In fact, in her comments, the woman even mentioned how the passenger of his next ride was getting angry, but he said: "I am sorry but I cannot leave them." As a driver, it wasn't his job to wait and could have easily ended his trip and driven away. But, as a human, he did his job and we respect him for that. Honestly, he deserves more than a 5-star rating. However, Santosh isn't the only hero in our society who is out there protecting women. A few days ago, a Mumbai driver and conductor made the whole bus wait at 1.30 AM in the night, until one of the female passengers found an auto.
  11. With 'Bigg Boss' back with its 12th edition, suddenly we have something to look forward to for our daily dosage of entertainment. It has just been 3 days and we already have people around us talking about the BB house, its inmates and brewing fights and we're loving the simmering drama. The Vichitra Jodis this season are indeed vichitra and we can totally see why was this theme was chosen in the first place. Anup Jalota and Jasleen Matharu have been making headlines ever since they confessed about their relationship on the show. However, we also revealed that they are not really in a relationship and everything was planned by the BB makers. Day 1 and 2 was all about people raising questions about their so-called relationship and things took a twist, when in an unaired clip, Jasleen was seen picking a single bed instead of sharing one with Anup. This left the popular bhajan singer surprised as well. View this post on Instagram Jasleen Matharu In Big Boss 12....ð A post shared by Jasleen Matharuð¤ð¸ðµ (@jasleenmatharu) on Sep 17, 2018 at 12:47am PDT He said, “ Toh main door hogaya, hum khule main soenge.” To which Jasleen quickly retorted, “Toh aap kahan pe ho abhi? Aap ek kaam karo, wait karo, aapko partner mil jaega koi.” Woah! Isn't that something? We just can't wait to watch and see how will the inmates react to this particular development? While Jasleen did tackle all the questions about her relationship with the singer quite well during the first 'Bigg Boss' task, things seem to be taking a different turn now. © ColorsTV And if you thought that was all, wait till you read the next big development where Jalota has been accused of casting couch. View this post on Instagram Happyyyyy Birthdayyyyy to my most favourite pyaare pyaare Anup Jalota ji @jalotaanup â¤â¤â¤â¤ A post shared by Jasleen Matharuð¤ð¸ðµ (@jasleenmatharu) on Jul 28, 2018 at 10:42pm PDT An Israeli model named Reena Gonal has accused him of casting coach, reported Jansatta. In 2011, she wrote a book named 'Dear Mr Bollywood' where she took the names of popular figures like Anup Jalota, director Subhash Ghai and producer-director Anees Bazmee, alleging that they took advantage of her. © Colors Talking about her journey she mentioned how she came to India in 2009 and it was SRK who inspired her to become an actor. When things didn't work out the way she wanted, she decided to return home. However, she stayed when she got a job with a new vitamin company that was being launched. Reena started promoting the brand and wanted B-town influencers to be part of it. It was then when she met Anup. They met multiple times, and even though he never became a part of the vitamin brand, he did ask her to host his show, for which she was paid an amount of Rs. 10,000 per show. View this post on Instagram Riaz with @jalotaanup ji..Woh chup rahe toh mere dil ke daag jalte haiðµ A post shared by Jasleen Matharuð¤ð¸ðµ (@jasleenmatharu) on Jul 12, 2018 at 12:32am PDT Reena also narrated how Anup opened up to him about his sad marital past and proposed to her to be his wife. She even alleged that he forcefully kissed her. While Reena made her strong case in the book, the singer has flatly rubbished all charges. He agreed that they have worked together for three years but nothing as such ever happened. Things are certainly taking an interesting turn for Jalota and we can't wait to watch what else 'Bigg Boss 12' has in store for us.

  14. Mukesh Ambani needs no introduction. He's the richest man in India, one of the richest men in the world and the owner of Reliance Industries Ltd. But, does that mean he's not a humble man? Ambani's net worth stands at a whopping $40.1 billion as of last year and he was placed 19th among the world's billionaires. It's not a bad place to be, though. We'd gladly settle for any number on that list. © Reuters His current yearly salary stands at INR 15 crore. That includes INR 4.49 crore in salary, INR 27 lakh in perquisites, INR 71 lakh in retiral benefits and INR 9.53 crore in commissions. While most of us would gladly settle for even a fraction of that every month, Ambani clearly believes that this is where the “buck should stop.” He had capped his salary at INR 15 crore way back in 2009 and has not taken a single salary hike since (Not that he needs it). While, to simple people like us, this makes no sense since whether Ambani takes the money or it stays with Reliance it's still his, the fact is that Reliance Industries Limited is a publicly traded company with a responsibility to its investors before anyone else. © Reuters As Chairman of the company, he will be able to makes changes to the bylaws in order to get a hike but the fact that he doesn't is laudable. The only question we have though is, with a yearly salary that Is higher than what most of us will earn in our lives, does he really need a hike? The answer… It's not like Antilla takes care of itself.

  18. You already know CR7. We all do. The world does. So I'll skip that blown-out-of-proportions introduction and cut to the chase. Ronaldo doesn't age. Or probably, is anti-aging. Alright, let's say he's really good at aging. This past February, the soccer legend turned 33. Now look at normal 33 year olds around you. Now, look back at Ronaldo's pictures. Does he pass off as a 33-year-old? Well, even science considers him as fit as a 23-year-old. A recent full-biology test concluded that Ronaldo's overall body composition was acutely identical to that of a 23-year-old chap. No wonder why he keeps kicking it up on the field. © Getty Images Understand Aging First Before I dig into details of what Ronaldo does to look this great, let me clear something out. Aging is pre-dominantly governed by your genetics. The sad part is that we have no control on our genetics. So what's left for us to manipulate so that we age well? Our lifestyle. How you live your life can have detrimental and very direct effects on how good you age. Everything—from sleeping to eating to your movement—sets the foundation of how you age as you grow older. So, What The Hell Is This Guy Doing? So what makes Ronaldo age like Benjamin Button? What does he eat? How does he exercise? Though his regime is very subjective and of course, exhaustively intense, I have briefed it out for you. These are the only two things that can actually help you age beautifully. © YouTube Eating 1) He loves his carbohydrates and relies mostly on oats, pastas, rice and potatoes. Carbohydrates are also essential for him keeping in mind his demanding training. 2) Meat protein is a staple. Everything from chicken to turkey to beef can be seen rotating in his eating schedules. 3) He usually eats 5 times a day. That's nothing new as most athletes would do the same to keep themselves fueled and recover from training. 4) Greens are an obvious too, along with on-point hydration. So as you can see, there's nothing magical here that he eats. You too can eat all this. The deal is that all of his eating is calculated and structured. He eats according to his goals with minimum cheats. Now a lot of publications would encourage you to eat like him. That's outrightly stupid. Neither are you Ronaldo and nor do you train 5 hours a day like him. Even if you do play football, I am sure you aren't getting paid to do that. What you can learn from this is the fact that calculating what you eat and choosing the right foods are of prime importance. Training Now this is something you need to pay precise attention to. This is exactly where the whole anti-aging starts. 1) Ronaldo is a professional athlete. He doesn't work out or train to 'just' remain fit or look good. His sport pays him millions so he has to, no matter what may come, be in top condition all year long. So training is a compulsion for him. Not a choice. 2) His training is split between cardio and weight training days. Usually, this takes up 4 days a week. Two days are dedicated to on-field training. One day is active rest. 3) Since his sport requires a robust lower body, it's prioritized. Everything from classic bodybuilding leg exercises to athletic work, best believe that he crushes all of these. 4) A mix of HIIT, LISS and on field circuit work sorts his cardio work. 5) Typical weight training and specialized athletic weight training are stressed upon the most. If it was only cardio, like most people think, he wouldn't have the amount of lean muscle mass that he now carries. 6) Extensive stretching, icing, rehab and soft tissue repair work are most definitely part of his regular regime. © Pinterest Weight Training And Anti-Aging: A Compelling Research Just like I mentioned above, strength work and resistance training are the two undeniable keys to anti aging. It just changes your body physiology right at the genetic level. Here, this research proves what I am telling you. The University Of New Mexico went out looking for the result of consistent resistance training. Handpicked completely inactive people and put them on 26 weeks of regular weight training. This is right from the research about what they found- 'Researchers identified 179 genes associated with age and exercise showing a reversal of their gene expression. This means quite literally that the resistance training was not only slowing, but also reversing the aging process at the gene level. 20. Image via REUTERS Video/Screenshot WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump?s legal troubles deepened on Wednesday as a federal judge refused to throw out a lawsuit accusing him of flouting constitutional safeguards against corruption by maintaining ownership of his business empire while in office. US District Judge Peter Messitte in Greenbelt, Maryland allowed the lawsuit filed by Maryland and District of Columbia to proceed, rejecting a Justice Department request that it be dismissed. The judge, however, narrowed the claims to include only those involving the Trump International Hotel in Washington and not Trump?s businesses outside of the US capital. A US judge in Manhattan in December threw out a similar lawsuit against Trump brought by another group of plaintiffs. Both lawsuits accused Trump of violating the US Constitution?s ?emoluments? provisions designed to prevent corruption and foreign influence. One bars US officials from accepting gifts or other emoluments from foreign governments without congressional approval. The other forbids the president from receiving emoluments from individual states. If the lawsuit presided over by Messitte continues to move forward, the plaintiffs have indicated they would seek a number of documents related to the president, including his tax returns, which Trump has refused to release. The lawsuit, filed last June, said the Republican president has failed to disentangle himself from his hotels and other businesses, making him vulnerable to inducements by officials seeking to curry favour. Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh, a Democrat, said in an interview he was pleased with the judge?s action. ?It demonstrates that Donald Trump is not above the law, that he like every other federal employee is governed by the emoluments clause, the original anti-corruption law of the United States. And we intend to hold him accountable,? Frosh said. Justice Department spokeswoman Kerri Kupec said, ?As we argued, we believe this case should be dismissed, and we will continue to defend the president in court.? As part of the suit, the District of Columbia and Maryland said their local residents who compete with Trump?s businesses like Trump International Hotel are harmed by decreased patronage, wages and tips. Trump?s attorneys said such claims were speculative and raised doubts that any harm to competition could be traced directly to Trump?s status as president. Messitte rejected that view, saying the plaintiffs? allegations were sufficient to allow the case to proceed. ?Their allegation is bolstered by explicit statements from certain foreign government officials indicating that they are clearly choosing to stay at the president?s hotel, because, as one representative of a foreign government has stated, they want him to know ?I love your new hotel,?? the judge wrote. Messitte also noted that since the 2016 presidential election, ?foreign governments have indisputably transferred business from the Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton hotels in the District to the President?s Hotel.? Legal woes Trump?s legal woes are mounting. His lead lawyer in the intensifying special counsel investigation into Russia?s role in the 2016 presidential election resigned last week. A New York state judge last week allowed a defamation lawsuit by a woman who accused Trump of sexually harassing her after she appeared on his former reality TV show to proceed. He also is facing lawsuits from adult film actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal arising from affairs they said they had with the president. Trump, a wealthy real estate developer who as president regularly visits his own hotels, resorts and golf clubs, has ceded day-to-day control of his businesses to his sons. Critics have said that is not a sufficient safeguard. This undermines democracy, the suit said, because Americans cannot be sure if Trump is acting in their best interest, or ?international and domestic business dealings in which President Trump?s personal fortune is at stake.? The suit said Trump had received millions of dollars in payments and benefits through leases of Trump properties held by foreign government entities, the purchase of condominiums in Trump properties, as well as hotel accommodations, restaurant purchases and the use of venues for events by foreign governments and diplomats. Messitte?s action contrasts with that of US District Judge George Daniels in Manhattan, who threw out the similar case filed by a nonprofit watchdog group, a hotel owner, a hotel events booker and a restaurant trade group. Daniels said the claims were speculative and that the US Congress was the proper place to hold the president to account.
  21. There are stories that make you happy, and then there are stories that make you sad, but then sometimes some things just straight up break your heart so much, that you are on the verge of crying. Let's start this heart-breaking story with a cliché, because it's true – Dogs really are our best friends. They are the only loyal companions a person can ever have, and honestly, we do not deserve them at all. Our pets love us unconditionally, and that love extends to even after we die. I'm sure everyone is familiar with the story of Hachiko, but let me refresh your memory. Hachiko is remembered for his remarkable loyalty to his owner, for whom he continued to wait for over nine years following his death. We have heard a lot of stories like that, because let's be real, dogs are the best, and each and every story is as heart-breaking as the last one. Here we have another story like that because everyone needs a reminder of how much love dogs actually have for their humans. About four months ago, a 59-year-old homeless man was stabbed in a brutal street fight in Novo Horizonte, in Sao Paolo, Brazil, and was taken to a hospital where he passed away. While he was being taken to the hospital, his dog chased down the ambulance until he got to the hospital doors. © Facebook According to local media, the dog kept coming back to the hospital, waiting for his owner. The hospital staff even took the dog under their wing, and provided him with everything he needed to survive. From food to shelter, the staff did everything they could to take care of the little doggo. They even found a kennel for him, which was just 3kms away from the hospital. © Facebook But, even after the kennel took him and had a new owner lined up to take him, the dog was just not ready to let his old owner go. After escaping from the kennel, he was right back at the hospital. The story recently went viral after it was shared on Facebook by Cristine Sardella. She wrote, “We have a lot to learn from animals,' her post on Facebook read. This dog stays every day at the door of the Santa Casa de novo horizonte hospital waiting for its owner who unfortunately passed away. He may be waiting in vain, but the love he feels for his owner is eternal.” © Facebook Okay, I'm going to go and cry now.
  22. Every day we learn something new, and today I learned and realized that Japan and its shows are way cooler than anything India has ever made. Case in point – 'Neko Zamurai', a show that aired in Japan a few years ago. What makes it the coolest and the most hilarious thing I've ever heard about is the fact that it's basically about a Samurai who just has one job – to kill the cat of a rival gang. No, don't worry, not a single animal was actually harmed. AMG Entertainment The whole synopsis is “Kyutaro, a famous swordsman, is hired by a dog-loving gang to kill their feline-loving rival's beloved cat. When he sees the cute kitty, he cannot kill it and becomes a cat lover, angering both gangs.” Now, doesn't that sound incredible? Also, have you ever met a cat? They're so adorable, no wonder he ultimately became a cat person. Just look at these cuties. Okay, let's come back to the show. For most us, today was the first time hearing about it, and we were all blessed with this knowledge of the show thanks to Twitter user @rabbitlayla. The tweet was posted yesterday and the pictures are so cool, the tweet has already crossed the 100k retweet barrier in just a day. This was a real show in Japan about a Samurai who refused to kill a cat he was hired to kill. I had to post the extremely good promo gallery for Twitter. pic.twitter.com/122PrHP7C0 — Layla (@rabbitlayla) February 28, 2018 Samurais and cats – this is what dream are made of! 23. Salah Abdeslam, the sole surviving suspect of the November 2015 Paris attacks-AFP BRUSELLS: Paris terror attacks suspect Salah Abdeslam has refused to return to his trial in Belgium this week over a shootout with police in Brussels that led to his capture, the court said Tuesday. The fresh show of defiance comes after Abdeslam berated judges for being anti-Muslim, refused to stand and said that he put his "trust in Allah" on the first day of the trial on Monday. It appears to dash any lingering hopes that Abdeslam might answer questions about the March 15, 2016, gun battle or about his suspected ties to the cell linked to both the 2015 Paris and 2016 Brussels attacks. "The court has received notice from the defendant to tell us that he will not take part in his trial on Thursday. It´s obviously his right not to appear," Luc Hennart, the court´s administrative head, told AFP. "It will not change how the trial unfolds," Hennart added. One of Abdeslam´s defence lawyers, Romain Delcoigne, told AFP: "We duly note it." Laura Severin, lawyer of Abdeslam´s co-defendant Sofiane Ayari, declined to comment when reached by AFP. Abdeslam had originally requested to attend his trial at the Palais de Justice in Brussels despite being held in France, where he has been in solitary confinement since April 2016. The Belgian-born French national of Moroccan descent is the only surviving suspect in the Paris attacks on November 13, 2015, that left 130 people dead. Abdeslam has refused point-blank to speak to investigators since his arrest in Brussels three days after the gun battle. Trial ´not finished´ Hennart said he still expected Ayari, a 24-year-old Tunisian arrested with Abdeslam three days after the shootout, to appear when the trial resumes. Both Abdeslam and Ayari face charges of attempted murder of three police officers who were wounded in a gunfight during a raid on the apartment where the two suspects were hiding out, and on charges relating to banned weapons. A third extremist, from Algeria, was killed in the shootout. In the early hours of Monday Abdeslam was transferred under tight security from a jail near Paris to Brussels for the trial, and then taken to another prison in northern France on Monday night. He had refused to stand for the court or answer questions about the Belgian case, alleging that Muslims were treated "mercilessly" as he explained why he would not cooperate despite having asked to attend the trial. "I am not afraid of you, I am not afraid of your allies," said a defiant Abdeslam, who has grown long hair and a beard during his nearly two years behind bars. "I put my trust in Allah and that´s all." Prosecutor Kathleen Grosjean recommended the pair be sentenced to 20 years in prison, what she said is the maximum sentence for an attempt to murder police officers. Several people had said on Monday night that they had hoped Abdeslam would speak. "The trial is not yet finished," Maryse Alie, who is representing five of the six police officers who came under fire in March 2016, said late Monday. "He could still decide to speak, all the more so, I think, as everyone expressed his point of view calmly," Alie added.
  24. KARACHI: Suspended Malir SSP Rao Anwar has refused to appear before the inquiry committee formed to probe extrajudicial murder of Naqeebullah Mehsud, after committee member DIG Sultan Khawaja asked him to appear at the DIG East's office at 11 pm on Sunday. Mehsud, a 27-year-old native of Waziristan, was among four suspected terrorists killed in an ?exchange of fire? with a police team headed by SSP Anwar on January 13 in Shah Latif Town. However, his family later stated that Naqeebullah was innocent and gunned down in a fake encounter. An inquiry team, headed by Counter Terrorism Department Additional IG Sanaullah Abbasi, was formed to probe the incident. The committee ordered the suspension of Anwar and other officials involved in the incident as well as placement of Anwar's name on the Exit Control List. Anwar said that he will not appear at the DIG East's office. He told Geo News that he has not yet made a decision regarding his appearance at the SSP's office at 1pm on Monday. Earlier in the evening, DIG Sultan Khawaja said the probe body will again meet at the office of the DIG East at 11pm to refute Anwar's earlier claims of not being summoned by the committee. He said that Anwar appeared before the probe body, formed on the orders of the inspector general (IG), on the first day for 15 minutes. Naqeebullah killing: Rao Anwar removed from post, placed on ECL Security agencies probing Anwar's assets in Karachi and Islamabad Anwar claimed that Naqeebullah was wanted for an FIR registered in 2014 and was an affiliate of Qari Ahsaan, an inmate at Karachi central prison, Khawaja said, adding that Ahsaan, when asked, Ahsaan said his crime partner Naqeebullah, was someone else. The DIG said that the committee also visited the site of the suspected police encounter, adding that they continuously tried to contact Anwar, but could not succeed. The committee met on the second day and this evening as well, Khawaja told Geo News. "Rao Anwar is neither picking up phone calls, nor is he appearing before the probe body, which is why a written notice had to be sent to him." He said that SP Investigation Abid Qaimkhani has been tasked to present Anwar, adding that tomorrow is a meeting summoned by the Additional IG, wherein Anwar has to appear along with his team. "Anwar has asked all the officers to switch off their phones and run away," he said, adding that it will be proven before the media whether or not Anwar appears. The DIG further said that they had a conversation with Naqeebullah's cousin on Sunday (today) as well and the police team will safely transport Naqeebullah's family to Karachi. He said that they are in touch with Ghotki and Kashmore SSPs and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police will hand over Naqeebullah's family to Sindh police. 'Murder case to be lodged against Anwar, others' KP IG sends police team to transport Naqeebullah's family from Waziristan KP IG said Naqeebullah?s family will be sent to Karachi under full security so they could participate in investigation Speaking to media, Additional IG Sanaullah Abbasi said a murder case will be registered against Anwar, station house officer (SHO) of Shah Latif Town and the police party involved in the extrajudicial murder. He said a member of Naqeebullah's family would become complainant in the case. Abbasi said Naqeebullah's cousin has been en route to Karachi, along with the victim's family and that they have been provided security by the KP police. Abbasi also appointed Malir district's new SP Investigation Abid Qaimkhani as investigating officer in the case. Qaimkhani has been tasked to arrest Anwar, in case he fails to appear before the probe team.
  25. Steve Bannon was fired by the White House in August 2017. Photo: File WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump?s former chief strategist Steve Bannon declined on Tuesday to comply with a subpoena ordering him to answer questions from a US House intelligence panel about his time at the White House as part of its investigation into allegations of Russian interference in the US election. After Bannon initially refused to answer questions about the matter, Devin Nunes, the committee?s Republican party chairman, authorised a subpoena during the meeting to press Bannon to respond. Even then, Bannon refused to answer questions after his lawyer had conferred with the White House and was told again to refuse to answer questions about the transition period immediately after Trump was elected, or Bannon?s time in the administration, according to Representative Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the committee. Separately, the New York Times reported that Bannon had been subpoenaed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller to testify before a grand jury in a probe of alleged ties between Russia and Trump?s 2016 presidential campaign, on Tuesday. It was the first time Mueller is known to have used a subpoena against a member of Trump?s inner circle, the Times said. It cited a person with direct knowledge of the matter. A spokesman for Mueller?s office declined comment. Bill Burck, a lawyer for Bannon, could not immediately be reached for comment on the subpoena or his testimony before the House panel. The reported subpoena of Bannon does not mean he is a target of Mueller?s criminal investigation. Bannon, a champion of Trump?s ?America First? agenda, was among the Republican?s closest aides during the 2016 election campaign, the presidential transition and his first months in office. But the pair had a bitter public falling out over comments Bannon made to author Michael Wolff for his recent book ?Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.? In the book, Bannon is quoted as describing a June 2016 meeting between Trump associates, including the president?s son Donald Trump Jr, his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and a Russian lawyer, as ?treasonous? and ?unpatriotic.? Russia has denied meddling in the election and Trump has denied any collusion between his campaign and Moscow. Bannon was fired by the White House in August, though he continued to speak with Trump and tried to promote the president?s agenda. Pressure tactic? Bannon spent hours on Tuesday meeting behind closed doors with members of the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee. He was the latest high-profile figure to appear before the panel as part of its investigation into allegations of Russian interference in the US election. Bannon refused to speak not only about his time at the White House, but also any conversations he had with President Trump after he had left the administration ?that might be for the purpose of the President seeking his advice on anything,? Schiff said. ?We expect to have Mr Bannon back in, we hope very soon, with a different position by the White House,? Schiff said. Asked if the White House had told Bannon not to answer certain questions, spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said: ?As with all congressional activities touching upon the White House, Congress must consult with the White House prior to obtaining confidential material.? ?We?ve been cooperating fully with these ongoing investigations and encourage the committees to work with us to find an appropriate accommodation in order to ensure Congress obtains information necessary to its legitimate interests,? she said. Mueller?s subpoena, which was issued last week, could be a pressure tactic to induce Bannon to cooperate fully with his investigation. Attorney Renato Mariotti, a former federal prosecutor, said the most likely reason for a Mueller subpoena of Bannon was that ?he thought having an attorney present and giving Bannon a more relaxed setting would not yield the same testimony as if he got him in the grand jury room with no attorney there and a more adversarial style of questioning.? A witness is not permitted to bring an attorney into a federal grand jury proceeding, but can step outside to consult with counsel.
