India has been battling against the second wave of the Coronavirus pandemic which has claimed so many lives in the past month. Recently, a BJP leader from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut was seen blowing a shankh and chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’ while he performed a havan and spread the smoke around in a neigbourhood. He also claimed that the smoke will stop the spread of the virus. Now, the video of BJP leader Gopal Sharma has gone viral on the internet. Gopal Sharma can be seen walking in the Nayi Basti and Shivpuram areas of Meerut with some other people alongside a bicycle cart that had a burning pyre with a huge cloud of smoke coming out of it. One can also hear ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ in the background on speaker. Sharma also lowers the mask to blow the shankh and his partner chants ‘Jai Shree Ram’. With rising cases of COVID in India, hospitals are finding it hard to accommodate patients in their isolation wards. The horrific reality came forward once again when the video of a 30-year-old woman who traveled from Hazaribagh to Jharkhand capital Ranchi to admit her COVID-infected father at Sadar Hospital surfaced online. In the video that went viral, the woman narrated how she had to wait in the hospital’s parking lot for nearly half an hour before she finally got any help and by that time, her father passed away. It was heart-wrenching to see a daughter pleading for help for her father and no one was there to help her in time of need. On her way out of the hospital with her father’s body, the woman saw the health minister Banna Gupta and confronted him. She can be heard saying, “Mantri Ji, doctor doctor chillate reh gaye koi doctor nahi aaya aadhe ghante tak…yahan ka halat itna kharab hai, yahi mar gaye (papa) tadap tadap ke…khali vote lene aate hai (Mr. Minister, we were crying out loud for a doctor, kept asking for a doctor for more than half an hour, nobody came to our rescue… the condition is so bad here my father died waiting…they only come here for votes)”. I am shaken by the incident. I have ordered an inquiry,” he said. People who saw the video had their own opinions. In the last 21 days, more than 144 people in Jharkhand have died of Covid-19. From less than 1,000 active cases, the state’s cases have climbed to 1,44,594 with 1261 deaths in the state.
